Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's 102.7 Kiss FM in Los Angeles. Seacrest with you,
Sissany Tanya on air. And joining us now, you will
recognize the voice in one moment and the tone. It
is Oprah Winfrey. Hello, Oprah.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hello, Ryan.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Hello.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
It's so great to have you on.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
So great to be on with you.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Well, do you know that, I mean, you probably know this,
but you know your name is also a verb, not
just a proper noun.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
No, how is it a verb?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
When people give me advice in life, they say, I'm
going to Oprah you right now.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Oh, I did not know that. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
I think it's pretty cool when you get to verb
status from a proper name.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Oh, I do, too, considering how it all started.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
I mean, considering, you know, Oprah wasn't even my name.
It was I was born or a pop on my
birth certificate. And then nobody knew how to spell it.
The P got put before the R and then I
started being called Oprah.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
And that's how you got to that. That is so
interesting to hear. You know, I was thinking about. Just
as someone that likes to work, and I know you
have spent a lot of your life working very hard,
do you feel like when you were really in it
and putting in hour after hour and show after show
and doing all the extras that come along with it,
did you miss.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Out on anything? I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Because, you know, when I ended that show, Ryan, one
of the things I said was this show. And you,
the audience, have been the great love of my life.
And I was thinking about that other day. Would I
still say that that has been the great love of
my life? No question about it. And I don't think
I missed one thing because I was exactly where I
wanted to be doing exactly what I wanted to do.
(01:42):
So I think, you know, for a lot of people
and also many people who work with me and worked
on that show felt the same way. They've gone on
to other shows, done other things, but will never be
another moment in time like that.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Did you always know what you wanted in every chapter?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I came to Chicago, Ryan, just happy to
get a job.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Replacing the host on AM Chicago.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I remember.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
And so I just was just happy to have that job.
And oh, my God, they're going.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
To pay me quite as much as I was making
in Baltimore. I thought, wow, now I can get I
can get a a decorator. Then I realized I couldn't
afford a decorator.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
So I went to Marshall Fields and bought all the
things off the floor. I thought, I mean, listen, are
you kidding?
Speaker 2 (02:33):
I didn't have any idea until the show started to
take off. We were beating Donahue in Chicago and I
started to think.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
I had my own aha moment, okay? Aha!
Speaker 2 (02:47):
When they asked me to go national, I felt that
it could work because it had worked in Chicago. But
I didn't come there with any dreams of being, you know,
a national host. I was just, I was a co-host
in Baltimore and just happy to be having a job
that I could pay the gas bill and the electric
bill and my rent all at the same time. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Well, it did work out, Oprah. It did work out.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
It worked out for me. It worked out for me.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
I remember the first time I met you, you came
to the set of American Idol. This was a long
time ago. This was in the early days.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
That's like over 20-something years ago now, right?
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah, that was. It was in the early days when
the show was just taking off.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
It was either the first or second season.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I do remember that.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
That's right. And I remember thinking to myself in watching you,
that obviously you have a gift of being curious and
putting words together. But what I noticed was how well
you listened. And I always thought to myself, wow, to
be good or great at that role or any role
in this world, even as a person, human being and
(03:54):
a partner or a friend, listening is more important than talking.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, that's what I learned on the show, that paying
attention to what people were saying.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
And, you know, I often say this, that the greatest lesson...
I learned from.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
That show was that everybody wants to be heard. That's
what that show taught me, is that every single person
you are going to encounter today, everybody listening to us
on Kiss, everybody you're going to encounter today, what they
want to know is, do you see me and do
you hear me? And does what I say mean anything?
Everybody's looking for that. And so that was shown to
(04:30):
me over and over and over and over again on
that show.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Oprah Winfrey is here. We're going to talk about the
AHA experience live at Sphere Las Vegas when we come back.
102.7 KISS FM, iHeartRadio nationwide. Oprah Winfrey is with us
in the mix this morning. She's doing something very interesting.
This sounds pretty amazing, Oprah, at Sphere in Las Vegas.
I haven't been inside myself yet. We were there and
(04:55):
I've seen the outside of it. But Oprah's bringing AHA,
those moments that she's known for, the AHA live at
Sphere in Las Vegas show. Tell us about it, Ms. Winfrey.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Well, I would have to say that if you haven't
been to Sphere, this is the time to come and
experience it. I was there for the U2 opening concert.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Oh, nice.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
On a girls' trip with.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Gail and Maria and Ava, we had a great night.
And at the end of the concert, I walked over
to the edge of where we were seated. I looked
up and I went, what just happened here? Were we outside? No.
Was the sun coming through? Was that the sea I
was smelling? What just happened here? And I had a
(05:41):
major aha moment of my own. I just thought I
had this feeling come over me like what an incredible instrument,
what a credible tool this space is. You could take
people to the edge of the universe out in space
and introduce them to themselves in a way that in
(06:02):
relation to the entire universe that they've never felt before
because you have the visuals, you have the sound. There
are 160,000 speakers at the sphere. Unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
160,000 speakers.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
You can be in your seat listening to one song,
hearing something, and five seats down, somebody is hearing it
in another language. It has the capabilities like no other
space in the world. And so I started to think
about What could you do there that would immerse people
in an experience that allowed them to feel the heart
(06:38):
of themselves, but also the hearts of everybody else around
them through music, through performance, through singing, through visuals, through light.
And that's what we came up with.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Aha. So I have one of the world's greatest composers here.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Max Richter, who was nominated for an Oscar for Hamnet
last year, he's scoring every moment of this. From the
moment you step into the sphere, you will start to
hear the sounds of Max Richter and John Hopkins. Jacob
Collier is going to take the audience into its own performance.
And so the idea of Being able to go out
(07:16):
into the edge of space, when I told Jim Dolan,
who built the sphere, that I wanted to do that
with people, Jim said.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Have I got the footage for you. We've got live footage.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Live visuals from the Hubble spacecraft. You should come see
it and see it, Oprah. So I went to see it.
I laid back in my seat.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
And I cried.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
The experience of going out to the edge of the
universe through the dome of the sphere, through the windows
of the sphere, the most incredible feeling and experience, one
of the most.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
I've ever had.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
So I wanted other people to also feel that, to
know that, and to have their own sense of awe
and wonder. So we're filming around the world.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Nature, beauty. Yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
I think people think that it's just me.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
It's not me.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
I will talk, but it's not just about me talking.
It's about creating an entire experience that brings people into
their own sense of awe and wonder.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
And so my thing is, if you've never been, my.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Goal is to blow it out.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Everything that Sphere is capable of doing will be done
April 2nd through 4th.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
There's no limitation of what you might be able to
go explore, right? I'm sure you had a vast canvas
of things that you narrowed it down to, but could
start with, right?
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Absolutely. Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
And so it's the most one of the most I
have to say I've had this remarkable life and career.
But this is just the most exciting thing I ever
remember doing. I mean, I've had some exciting moments. Giving
away the cars was so fun. Taking an entire audience
to Australia was really fun. But being able to take
people who've never experienced the sphere and people who also
(09:01):
are seeking for themselves a higher way of being in
the world, a higher way of expressing themselves.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Igniting the light. You know, we're all born with the
light inside of us and it just, it sometimes goes
dim because of life and you know, experiences that take
you down.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
So this is to remind people of really who we
are and who we are within ourselves, but who we
are together and to do it in a way that
is fun and joyful and creating aha moments.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
I love it. And you shed light on it today
to understand exactly what it is and why it will
be such an amazing experience that it's called Oprah Winfrey's
Aha Live at Sphere Las Vegas starting April 2nd. As
she said, tickets are on sale starting April At 10
o'clock this morning, ahalive.com. Oprah Winfrey, what you have done,
(09:50):
your magic power, you know this, is the way you
make people. It's not what you say necessarily. It's the
way you make us feel. And thank you for those
feelings for so many years. And continue.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Oh, thank you, Ryan. Thank you so much. Thank you
so much. See you at Sphere.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
See you at Sphere. I spit when I say it sometimes.
It's so complicated.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Sphere.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
I'll see you there.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Yeah, yeah. We don't call it Sphere.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
It's just Sphere. See you at Sphere. I have to
lose the article.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
For multiple aha moments. For multiple aha moments.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Bring your friends. It's a girl's trip kind of thing
and a boy's trip.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Well, I can go on it. They always invite me
on the girl's trip. I can go on a girl's trip,
Sisney and Tanya.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I'm just saying, you know, I do. Do boys do
boy's trips? Do you do boy's trips?
Speaker 1 (10:33):
I don't really like to hang out with a bunch
of dudes. He prefers a girl's trip. I prefer a
sound bath.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
All right. Well, okay.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
So the bottom line is come with your friends, bring
your family. It's an experience you're going to want to share.
You don't want to be there going, God, I wish
I had brought so-and-so because.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
It's the kind of thing you're going to want to share.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
It's a shared experience.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Got it. All right. Thanks. Bye-bye.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Bye.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
I won't talk to Oprah Winfrey soon, but I said it.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Never know.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
It's like, what?
Speaker 1 (11:02):
You want to put it out there? I didn't realize
it wasn't the sphere. No, it's Sphere. I know that
because every time I say it, we have these little
notes that say the title of Backstreet Boys at Sphere.
And I keep saying, they forgot the the. And I'm
corrected to say there is no the. It's just Sphere. Yeah, interesting.
(11:23):
It's just Oprah. It's just Sphere.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Kiss.
