Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are fun with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Here we go, Mario Courtney Lopez. Here far enough to
be back in studio. I'll hang with you for the
next cer hours. A lot of radio find to get into,
some great guests set to join us, the phrase zooming
in later to talk some new music and more.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
I love them so much. Plus, you got to choose
your side, Team Mario or Team Quordo, because not only
do we have a fake debate ahead of us, but
we're going to go head to head in a mini
pop culture pop quiz a little later. All that and
more so, turn it up. You're on with Mario and
Cordo Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
A Mario Cordo Lopez. Back to the music in a sect.
But saw something I thought was interesting. Apparently these days
one cent isn't enough. A quote signature scent is actually
a whole mix of smells. I know people do this.
Sounds like a lot of work. Scent layering has become big.
You blend perfumes, oils, even hair sprays to create something personal.
You can do a combo that feels cozy, another one

(00:53):
for going out, another for whatever mood you're in.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
It's all over.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
TikTok videos are titled Layer with Me, and instead of
expensive designer fragrances, these TikTokers are mixing it up and
creating their own. You don't want to smell like everyone else.
You want to smell like you or maybe no one
else at all. I feel like that could be aggressive
in backfire quickly. I have my certain it could be
too much that I like in the winter, in the summer,

(01:18):
in the fall, like that.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
I I'm very sensitive, so if it's very strong, I
get I get a headache. Yes, so I like stuff
on me that's very soft and hardly there. This to
me is just crazy.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
If you add thirty two soft things, it's going to
be aggressive.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
So you're really going to have me add another thing
to my day when I have to mix.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Now that more Mario Lopez coming up.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Here's the rolls on You're all Mario Courtney Lopez, reminding

Speaker 2 (02:00):
A Mario Courtney Lopez. All right, better choose your side,
t Mario or Team Quardo, because we're just a few
songs away from another round of slang game. Back to
battle it out next top of another pop culture pop quiz,
Mario Courtney Lopez, You're playing another round of the Slang
Gang where we try to guess slang from various times
or places. Start theme today, Frasier.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Well, today we are doing medieval slang that needs to
make a comeback. Okay, yes, these are medieval slang terms.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
By the way, the things I sent you I did
not read.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
I know, I'm away. Here we go, Here we go,
hands on buzzers. Hufty tufty? That was Mario tufty?

Speaker 2 (02:40):
What was it?

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Hofty hofty tufty?

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Hofty tufty is when you're like a little chubby dude,
but you know how to throw down.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
That's incorrect.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Sounds like hofty tufty is when you think you're all that.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
It's a person who brags.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
That's a tubby dudehood can throw it.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I mean maybe, well you didn't say he was bragging
about himself though.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Okay, well he thinks he's hefty tough.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
I'll give you a prop for that. It's pretty que alright,
here's the next one. Don't get mad, here we go.
Fop doodle.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Mario fop doodle was a hairstyle back in the day. Oh,
your fop doodle's tight.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Incorrect, No, Courtney.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Fop doodle is when you mess something up.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
No, it's a fool. So he's a fool. It's a
person who would mess something a right hands on buzzers.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Gob mooch goeb mooch is a dude who borrows from
you and never pays you back. Incorrect, no.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Cording.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
A gob mooch used to be called when a person.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Incorrect, A gullible person, a gullible persons.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
To all these words, there are two more. Giggle mutt.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
That was barely Mario giggle.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Might as we just can't stop laughing. This fool laughs
at everything. He's a gigglemut.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
A person who smiles stupidly all the time. You go,
nailed it? Last one?

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Did he nail it?

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Though I nailed the other one? And last one? Fusty lugs.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Fusty Lugs is a guy that never bathes. He smells rank.
He's fusty lugs.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Incorrect a fusty lug is someone who's really.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Hairy, incorrect, a lazy person. So it kind of you
but maybe yeah, it's.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
You should have just said.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Or Mario Lopez coming up Omar.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Courtney Lopez reminding you that I Heeart and TikTok have
come together to create something new, I Heeart TikTok Radio,
where the world of TikTok meets your playlist.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
The biggest it's a cross iHeart Radio and what's trending
for you on TikTok plus TikTok's most influential creators all
in one place. You're welcome. Check it out TikTok Radio
right now on the free iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Amrio Courtney Lopez. Going the extra mile for those we
love is a great way to show how much we care.
So what would you do for a loved one When
new research says we're willing to.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Do a lot we are most of us would act
as a job reference. Of course, your friend actually was
doing that for your sister and his job. His description
of your sister was deplorable.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
It was just like no, it was like she was.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Applying to be a substitute teacher, and all he put
was like she's great with kids, very like she was
like thanks. Half of us would suffer through going to
the DMV for the sake of our loved ones.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
I love. That's like up there with picking them up
in the airport.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Exactly two and five of us would happily donate an
organ to someone close to us.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Oh, that's next level, next level.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
And get this, eighty percent of us would share one
hundred thousand with our loved ones if it suddenly fell
in our love.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Well the key phrase there, suddenly fell in our lab. Well,
when does one hundred thousands? It does suddenly just fall
in your lap.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
Something?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah, why sure, everybody's real generous if you've got money
just falling in your lab Yeah, with theoretical money, I'm
very generous all day in America. All right, let's get
back to the music. Joon Marl Courtney Lopez. And this
is something no parent we'll ever talk about except Dion Sanders.
He admits that he ranks his five children based on

(06:37):
how they perform in life. Actually like this about Dion
a lot. I've always liked uh Dion as an athlete,
and I like him as a person. He's got that cool,
raspy voice. He's very vocal about his faith and put
in God.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
First.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
We went to dinner with him and his lady. Yes,
Tracy Edmonds, you remember that, honey, Yes, I do pregnant?
Do we not have a baby? Right after that?

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Shortly after well, we had gea for sure, maybe I
was pregnant with with dominant I think I think.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Perhaps you were.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
He blocked Nichols on Twitter.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Did he really yet? Was he talking?

Speaker 4 (07:08):
He was talking some smack and Dion blocked in, that's funny.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Daone ain't got time for that.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
But as far as him ranking his kids, I actually
saw where he talked about it, and it was very funny,
very cute, and you know, I get it. There's gonna
be some kids that are more motivated and have more
of a passion to do something. And you know that
that's obvious. You're gonna say, you know your rank number?

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Why you cannot tell me If you have a son
that got a scholarship to Stanford and is living his
best life and is staying out of trouble and is
doing well in school, you're gonna rank him the same
as your other child who keeps getting in trouble with
the law.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
But who's funnier and doesn't listen to you.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
You can't tell me you're gonna you're gonna have You
might quote love them the same, but you're still gonna
rank the other a little bit higher.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
More Mario Lopez coming up.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
So do you suffer from fopo? You're all Mario Lopez.
Most people tend to care what other people think of them,
but when that goes too far, it can become something
known as fau po, fear of people's opinions. Well, don't
offer go on social media. Signs you're dealing with it
include laughing at a joke you didn't find funny, staying
late at work just because your boss is there, and
pretending you saw a movie or show you've never watched.

(08:26):
And how about lying about your age, which is hard
to do now with Google. Worry too much about what
others think can hold you back and make your second
guess yourself. But just being aware of it can help
you break the habit. So we have fomo, we have
faux po. There's also phobo, fear of better offer. There's
a lot of fear going on here.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Yeah, like, maybe just look at the positives.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
More Mario Lopez on the way on Mario Courtney Lopez
music rolls on as we congratulate all of our winners
in Iheartradios. Thank You Teacher, powered by donors Choose Still
time by the way to donate to a classroom project
and get your donation match by donors Choose Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
So hit up on with Mario dot Com slash teachers
and help us say thank you to the educators shaping
our future.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
You're on, Mario Courtney Lopez. A little more music. They're
gonna fire up zoom so we get chat with the
guys from The Fray, just drop their first new album
and over a decade, A Light That Waits, Back to.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Get this scoop on that talk Tory and more when
the Fray joins us next.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Mario Lopez joining me right now, Joe Bennan Dave for
the band The Fray. How you gentlemen doing what's going on? Mario? Hey,
I'm good man, I'm good. This is exciting. I know
fans are fired up. You y'all are back with your
first full length album in over a decade called A
Light That Waits. What's inspiring this new music?

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Man? There's a lot to say still, so you know
when you have more to say, you want to put
it down, you want to write it, and that's that's
where we're at. Man, It's a lot of this record
is about, you know, that light that you don't you
can't see yet. Yeah, maybe it's that that you're part
of that self that you can't see yet, and other
people help you see it. And even us as a band,
like we can we can see ourselves more clearly because

(10:23):
others have helped us along the way, see ourselves more clearly.
So a lot a lot of the records, you know
in that theme.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Well, you're older, you mature a little bit more, there's
more clarity in your life. So yeah, man, I can
imagine especially after ten years and and and obviously your
your o G lead singer Isaac step was away from
the band, but Joe stepped right up. How's the songwriting
process change because of.

Speaker 5 (10:43):
That stepping up to the plate? Man, just trying to
get on bass. No, man, it's it's you know, it's
a dream, that's what that's what's good about you know,
that's what's unique about bands is that you can change,
you can evolve, and fans can you know, can see
that and come along with the evolved nature of it.

(11:05):
So we've learned a lot from other bands that have
done this, like Genesis, Van Halen ACDC. There's been, you know,
loads of bands that have taught us what's possible and
that the songs are really what mattered at the end
of the day.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
I know you're exactly right, and there are a lot
of positive examples that you just labeled off right there.
All right, guys hang type Frey hanging out with us
on Zoom more with them coming out.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
We'll be right back. Mario Lopez on.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Mario Lopez getting back to the guys in the fray.
We're hanging out on Zoom. New album is A Light
That Waits And I know, starting in May, you guys
are kicking off your summer tour, the Summer of Light tour.
How do you come up with the setlist? That's a
that's a process.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
The collaboration, you know, there's there's some non negotiables, you know,
with the old songs, but also with the new ones.
There's kind of in the studio with some of the
new songs where there's already probably three in the visual
thoughts about like when we get the song done, it's
gonna live in X Spot. You know, I already have
thoughts for like opening opening songs, set closers, so we

(12:10):
start throwing ideas around, but then once we get into rehearsals,
kind of the rubber really hits the road.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
You know, you do you uh do? Y'all? Do any
covers have any classics or anything?

Speaker 5 (12:18):
You got any you got any suggestions for us?

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Mario?

Speaker 2 (12:21):
I always I always rup your sleeve.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Well.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
I always like when I see bad I love here
in live music, and I always like when bands kind
of give their version their twist, you know what I mean.
I think it's kind of cool and sometimes it's better
than the og.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
Well, you know, we we've I don't know if we've
done it better. But a few years back we did
Hipstone Lie by Shakira, and I gotta say Ben stepped
up to the microphone for that song.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Okay, people lost there. It's fun, man, I like what
you do. I think it's fun for the fans and stuff.
It's fun. We didn't even have to dance. He didn't
even have to dance. He just opened his mouth. Frey
hanging out with us more with them coming up. The
first one was Guys from the Fray hanging out with
this is our Mario open as your new album just drop.
But I know a lot of your classic songs have

(13:03):
been huge on TikTok with the younger generation. That's kind
of cool.

Speaker 5 (13:07):
How does that happen, Mario?

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yeah, it's I'm with that. Oh here, I see my
kids like liking these. I'm like, how do you know
that song? And on TikTok, and so I mean it's great.
That's the That's the thing about art is that it's
timeless and it just can reach new people.

Speaker 5 (13:21):
Yeah, man, I don't know, it's it's wild to see it.
I mean we've always just written true songs, you know,
honest songs, and haven't tried to follow, you know, trends.
We weren't ever chasing trends, and you know, I guess
maybe that's that's held up better over time. But yeah, man,
seeing this generation just attach their story, attached their life

(13:41):
to it. You can cover the songs on TikTok. I
mean we see so many covers and it's like wow,
like incredible to see you know, all the all these
artists just posting songs and it's their story attached to it.
So it just makes it you know, brings a new
meaning to it, new life to it.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Absolutely, that's a big compliment. All right, hang tyme little
music and then back with some wrapping up with the
guys from the Fray. Youre on Mario Lopez before I
let you go where you all from?

Speaker 5 (14:05):
Originally we grew up in Denver, started the dand Denver,
uh you know, hustled around Denver, mile hot CDs, yeah,
demo CDs, fired shows, you know, did what every local
band used to do at that time, and uh yeah,
we fortunately got out and got beyond Denver metro area.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
So yeah, who else is the way? There's a couple
people who else is from Denver?

Speaker 5 (14:27):
Like, oh man, it's it's It's.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Been a thing every couple of years.

Speaker 5 (14:30):
There's something coming out of Denver. Nathaniel rightlift you know, yeah,
kind of bloneers guys now live there.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Oh wow?

Speaker 5 (14:38):
You know three O three was was from from Denver?

Speaker 1 (14:41):
Eric Denver?

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. But just me I want to say,
is Philip Bailey from Win Was he from Denver? I
want to say somebody I don't know that. I want
to say, like somebody I think, yeah, I was just
it because there's like a random city that you wouldn't
think that, you know what I'm saying, Like a lot
of music, but there's something.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
It's a great city to be from, you know, as
an artist because the people are music lovers there in
the venues or world class. Yeah, like we really you know,
right outside of Red Rocks from dinner was our dream
to play Red Rocks.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
I was right by the way Philip Bailey lead singer
Hilla bamor Yea Denver there you go right there because
I see it. I love right there. Well, Hey, congrats

What you got?

Speaker 3 (16:37):
Do you ever wonder what normal people think about? Like
why does Mario call her Quardo? That would be a
normal person.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
I told you how I feel about your name. You know,
I love you to death, but it'll forever be a
thorn in my side that your mom be careful. Did not.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
The mom is on your side right literally your name.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
She decided and she could have gone with chessca Isabella
or Sophia, but you went with Corney.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
It's her sister's fault as well.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Oh you know what, And I like I like your aunt.
I like your aunt, but that was killing me. And
with all the respect to the other Courtney's out there,
like if you're a Courtney Smith or a Courtney.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
You don't have a problem with Courtney Courney Thorn.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
No, that's good. They're nice, and you know that's good.
But you have the opportunity, you have a beautiful Italian
and you should have gone, Oh my gosh, that's just
you know, you know, I almost aim over it. You know,
I get married almost fifteen years.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Here's the thing, since we're the middle of this and
she's here, I feel like we should let your.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Mother in law response, true, she is. I said that
on purpose because she is here, you have anything to say.
Why the genesis of you saying it, I get close
to the genesis of you saying it is because you
watched it on a TV show. Right, you watched General Hospital,
weren't they pretty Italian? Oh, well, she's blaming it on
her sister. She's gonna blame it on my sister. We
could call her Courtinia. No, I want to know why

(17:58):
forty five years ago you didn't hold.

Speaker 7 (18:00):
On, hold on well forty five one number two. Think
about everybody then, Brittany, Ashley, Courtney, those are the trendy names.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
But but you went Gina with the first Gena's ten
years older than her.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
So you were just you.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
You're so your follower. You went trendy. Yes I am.
I'm a trend person, aren't they are under other great
Italian names you like.

Speaker 7 (18:26):
Aur And yes, you make me feel really bad about
every of my life.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
No, no, listen, you have a wonderful, wonderful daughter, right
you should.

Speaker 7 (18:37):
You have a wonderful, wonderful wife, georgeous, and we have
a wonderful, wonderful co host.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
That's right, that's right. No, I got you know, Courtney
grew on me. I gotta say, like like a wart,
but it grew on me.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Mario Lopez coming up?

Speaker 6 (18:52):
What up?

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Marow, Courtney Lopez, here was some quick food buzz for you.
It's about time pop tarts. Finally answering the call for
more gooey goodness, was super stuffed pop tarts, about fifty
more filling than the originals.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Strawberry blast, molten lava cake, and cinnamon caramel, though the
cinnamon is a Walmart exclusive.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Oh, Walmart's got the cinnamon market porner.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
I used to eat the brown cinnamon sugar pop tarts, yeah,
and dip it into milk.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Do you know that the pop tarts that have frosting
actually have less calories than the ones that don't have frosting.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
I saw that, you know.

Speaker 4 (19:26):
I only I saw that online. I don't know if
it's true.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
I've only tried the one pop tart flavor was that
it was one with frosting.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Okay, is right?

Speaker 2 (19:34):
I don't feel like it's s I mean it fine.
All right, let's get back to let me say, all right,
get close to the end of our radio fun Mario
Lopez here, we got to get to our comment of
the week. Few more songs. We're gonna see who's getting
on here this week. In the meantime, more music probably
got time to squeeze in one last request or two.
So if you got something you want to hear slide
into our DMS over on ig at Mario Lopez. All,

(19:57):
Mario Lopez. Almost time to pass the mic, but not
before we honor our comment of the week. What'd you
find phrase?

Speaker 4 (20:03):
This is from a Clara Joe. Computers used to scream
out in pain when we connected to the internet. This
was a warning that we did not heed.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Was that that ring?

Speaker 6 (20:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (20:12):
It was a dial up modems used to do the
rare noise.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Yeah, I remember that.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
I remember more Mario Lopez coming up.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
All right, that's it. Thanks so much for hanging with us.
Also thanks to the Fray for zooming in almar dot
com for more of my chat with them and to

Bleep! with Ana Navarro

Bleep! with Ana Navarro

Fear thrives in silence and confusion. Ana Navarro rejects both. Her voice is an antidote to today’s chaos. Her new podcast, Bleep! with Ana Navarro, takes on today’s most pressing issues with the voices most connected to it: decision-makers, political leaders, cultural shapers, and people on the frontlines of the story. The conversations acknowledge the emotions we all feel—despair, sadness, fear— but emerge with knowledge, perspective, and hope. The belief is simple: fearless dialogue can transform fear into courage, and courage into change. When fear dominates the headlines, this show digs deeper. Because information, debate, and conversation don’t just ease fear, they give us power to shape the future.
