Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is on with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's everyone, Mario Lopez, join me now on Zoom. Actor
in comic My man, Matt Rife, Welcome to show.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
How you been, Bud, I'm great man, Good to see you,
Thanks for having me back.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Good to see you.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Thanks for taking the time, keeping up with you on
social I know you're killing it out there on the road.
Problematic World tour is going on. How have how the
show has been for you?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
They have been unreal, man. We've crossed off some real milestones. Recently,
we did six shows at Radio City Music Hall. Wow, unbelievable.
I mean doing one show that would have been a
dream come trip. That was amazing. We just did my
first arena shows. We did five shows at Mohegan Sun
Arena in Connecticut, which broke the record there. That's awesome
shows by a comedian, which at first I was really

(00:43):
flattered by it, and then I realized, oh, it's pretty obvious.
Most comics are just smart enough to not do that
many shows.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
No, good for you, what market? No, but that means
the demand is there.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Now when you're traveling are you are you on a
bus or how many people you're rolling with?

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah, I've got tour, but I have two tour buses.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Dude, you're like the Rolling Stones over here.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Oh dude, it's ridiculous and not what anybody thinks. It's
just me and my boys on the bus and people
are like, oh, you guys gotta be throwing parties on that.
Bet there's just hookers and drugs everwhere and do it's
just just smoking weed and fast food and playing video
games till five in the morning.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Damn. That sounds like a good time though, So it's
not bad.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
It's not bad.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
I bet.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Now, when you're on the road for this long, like,
what's the packing situation? Because whenever I travel, I get
like anxiety when I have to pack more than anything
that will not fit in a carry on.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
But I guess when you have a bus, you can
you can kind of a little more room. Yeah, right, exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
It's well, not to rub it in their faces, but
I have like the master bedroom in the backroom bus, obviously,
while while my friends all sleep in their mausoleum walls, right,
I have like a full walk in closet. Oh nice,
they all share one bunk to like as their storage bump.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Not rub it.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I'm pretty I've got like ten pair of shoes on there,
a couple of I am months with of clothes, but
I come back here to La to pop in for
press stuff so often. I'd come back here everything I've worn.
But I've warned in a video that's gone viral. I'm like, well,
got to get rid of that. I'll come back here
and just switch it out for all through wardrobe. It's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
I like that move right there.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
And I noticed a lot of fans are making you
cookies and drawing pictures. Oh yeah, you've gotten anything a
little out of the ordinary.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Somebody bought my hat off off my head on stage
of the day for one thousand dollars, and then I
tried to buy meth with it in Minneapolis.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Oh but officially, yeah, there was.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
However, how was the I forcefully retired dealer in the audience? Right?

Speaker 2 (02:44):
That's funny, man, that's funny.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Well, in May, I'm looking forward to this because I'm
planning to be there. The Netflix is a joke festival
going down at the Hollywood Bowl That is one of
my all time favorite venues.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's so cool. Have you had an opportunity to perform
there with us here? First time even been Oh so cool, Matt.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
You're gonna love it, man, because in the summertime it's beautiful.
It's like nestled up in the Hollywood Hills. Thousands of people.
You see the lights. They're smoking and drinking because you
can drink, drink and smoke out that it's like your boss.
It's like your bus, but outside and it goes. It's
so much fun.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
You are gonna love it. What do you got planned
for that?

Speaker 1 (03:22):
I'm working on a musical act too that I can't
disclose as of yet, to potentially really just in the
show with a grand finale. If I can't get them,
I am gonna need you and your family to do
some TikTok dance.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
That's what's up. Want Mario, Hey, the lout passes have
your back.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Your walk doesn't go unnoticed. I'm excited for I wanted.
I wanted to feel like like an intimate festival. It's
turned a six a sixteen thousand seat venue into an
intimate hangout. I'm gonna have a bunch of my friends
come and open the show for me. It's gonna be
a great show from start to finish. And I just
did the Dolby Theater. I think it was six shows
just a couple of months ago, and for the people

(03:59):
who may have been there for thank You, it was
an incredible experience dream come true. And it's already a
brand new show, so you don't have to worry about
coming to see the same jokes repeated.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Oh fun, all fun, I'm looking forward to that's gonna
be cool man in this fall.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
This is also really cool.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
You're gonna be performing an Abu Dhabi. Now, yes, have
you done much outside of the States, Like, how are
the audiences different or how is their response to your
material outside of the US?

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Oh man, so far, the US is the least fun
to perform in.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
That's great, not.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Just the cultural differences, but like just the freedom of comedy,
Like we people in the States about comedy more than
any other country around the world.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
You're just complaining, you're exactly right, and just to pause
for a second there.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
It is such a.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
It is such an unfortunate reaction of society here because comics.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Used to be our truth teller, and you.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Used to be able to turn to comedy ministers in comedy,
I would say, right, because they were your truth tellers
to keep it pre hilarious. Well no, but to keep
it real, they would tell you in church what the
real deal was, and then comics would tell you what
the real deal was, and to kind of cut through
all the bs and so the fact that they're trying

(05:20):
and I know, they try to come after you for
some stupid stuff, and I was so glad the way
you handled it, and it was awesome, But it's so ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
And you're right out.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
It must be refreshing to get out of those states
and to be able to just people know how to
take a joke and they take it for what it is.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
I was just in Australia at the beginning of this
year for January. We were there for two and a
half weeks. It was three weeks maybe the show's out.
There was my first time being that I'd always heard
in the comedy community that Australia had like the best
comedy audiences in the world, which that's a pretty high
title to give. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got down there
and I was like, dog, I wish I would have
waited to shoot my next special there. It was unbelievable,

(05:58):
Like nobody feels that they have to make the show
about themself. No one's getting offended by anything. Everyone is
just there for you to say, Like, if you're gonna
make a joke about the mostable thing you can think of,
they're all. They're in with the joke. They're on board,
they're aware of the context and the environment.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
And they have a sense of humor.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Oh yeah, the UK was fantastic, Like the English crowds
are amazing, even Ireland. I've got a whole European tour
we're doing from September through November, including that the Abu
Dabi one, which I'm really looking forward to. That's the
same arena they're doing UFC in the night right before.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Oh, you're gonna get catch the fight that's gonna be.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah, I think you should come out personally.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Hey, that's what I would data, Yeah, to hit it
up there.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
He's a big fan of yours by the way too.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Oh, I know that's the homie. That's the homie.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
That's cool.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
I'm really looking forward to now. I know the lulls
and cultures are much more different out there, so I
will be interested to see what I can and can't
stay out there, right.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
That'd be may make for some good material though, too.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Potentially who it could go terribly wrong with the time
I read.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
I don't know if this is true. Are you into
sports cars or sport cards? Part of me?

Speaker 1 (07:04):
What you're talking about. That's so crazy that you even
heard about this. Yeah, when I was growing up, I
loved sports card I still have like tens of thousands
of them.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Do you did you get that Lebron rookie card recently?

Speaker 1 (07:14):
I did when I was at Mohegan Sun for the
Arena shows. They had an expo going on up there,
and I was like, I haven't dabbled in cards in
probably more than a decade, and I got up there.
They had some amazing things. I got.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
H I got a Mickey.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Mantle rookie card. I got a Lebron rookie card. I
got a Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson autograph card.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Sweet, and oh.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
God, there was one other one I got well blanking
on it right now, but yeah, came up, dude. It
was amazing.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
That's cool, man, that you get to do all that.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Well.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Dude, I am glad you're you're killing it out there
with all this traveling working, though, How are you staying
in shape?

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Because I know you're still looking dialed in.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Whatever, whatever La fitness Planet, Fitness, I'll go in and
get I'm King of the Day passes. When I get
back from Canada and about a I'm gonna be back
here for a little bit. I want to see you
in the ring again.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
All right, sounds good man, I look forward to it.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
