Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario a little Pez.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Hey, you're on Mario Lopez joining me right now.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Singer songwriter Philip Phillips.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
How you been, man? Man? How you did? Looking good? Looking? Ripped?
Thanks brother?
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Thanks a little toasty out here? You know, beauty of
doing now radio and.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I can't even do that. I know you looking good?
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Hey, congrats. By the way, you were in Mass on
the latest season of The Mass singer a pug Casso.
That's hilarious. Uh did you get to choose it or
was it assigned to you?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
No, they actually assigned it to me. But I was
thankful because I saw some of the other ones that
I was. I would have not been great in the
other costumes for sure.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
And were you a fan of the show before? How'd
you end up there?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
You know, I never watched the show. I'd heard of it.
I got asked a couple of years ago, but it
was not the right time, so they asked to give in.
I didn't really have anything going on during that time
period when they were filming, and and I had to
do some research on who was on it. So Lil
Wayne was on in t pain. So that's like like
the top of coolness. So it's like, maybe that'll help
me be a little cooler.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Absolutely, and you did some cool songs too, like Teddy Swims, Cranberry,
Spice Girls, even Alex and Warren. So I was saying
you were like the best singer too in the history
of the show. Were you trying to show all some
skills right there? Fleg those muscles?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
You know? I can't. I can't deny that I was
trying to show some skills. No, I was, you know,
I just had a good time. Man had to change
up some of those songs you know, too much by
Spice Girls. That was one that I was kind of
not expecting to do okay on because I was, oh, crap,
I don't know any Spice Girls songs and then hadn't
listened to him since my sisters were living with us,
(01:32):
And then I got to change that up. I really
love how it changed it up. So that was probably
one of my favorites actually.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
And you just released your brand new single Homesick this
week as well. What inspired that one?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, so that song is about you know, I wrote
it while my kid was taking a nap and I've
been travel a little bit, and then you know, it's
really about missing the people you love. And for me,
I have two kids now, a little boy and the
girl just had a baby girl. She's like nine months
old now, and this is my wife. So I get
to do some amazing things. I get to travel some
amazing places, and uh, I get to do what I love.
(02:07):
But it also comes at a cost of missing things,
you know. You know, I'll be waiting to do the
show and wishing I was changing dirty diapers, you know.
So this is this of those little things about it
and missing the places that you that that make you you,
that make you your yourself.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, that's that's a tough balance right there. Is the
is the song part of the bigger project maybe new
ep here a.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yeah, working on there, got some other songs, you know,
kind of keeping keeping ready and uh you know, kind
of figuring out the next schedule for those. But I
love this one and I'm hoping people love. What what's
coming up? You know throughout the rest of this year.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Could we possibly see you sometime this summer perform.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
You never know. I'm I think of working on some
some something something going on in the fall, maybe coming
in the summer, and I'm sure we're going to get
some shows throughout the throughout the summer, but trying to
work on something for the fall time, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Good for you, man, Well, good luck with every thing
and listen everyone. Be sure to check out phillips brand
new single, Homesick, which is out now, and be on
the lookout for possible tour dates. Philip, thanks for checking.
