We've been bringing you, guys some of the content.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
It has not stopped because right now we are about
to do an exclusive a lot of conversation around jay
Z and his hair and his afro and how do
we go from the locks to the afro?
Speaker 1 (00:44):
So joining me here on the Latest with Laura Rosa.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
I have Aletti, who is a I don't know if
you call yourself a hairstylist, a lock smith, hastylist, YEA
a hairstylist uh here in New York at a salon
here in New York. Also that you talk about, I
go to that salon, and you know, people have a
lot of questions. Girl, They're like was the dreads or sorry,
(01:08):
were the locks even real? Because how does this work?
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Very much real? It was like a process of eight
years that he's been growing his hair.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Uh, And yeah, it was a collab with this lady.
Her name is Marie. She goes her Instagram name is
Houston Locks. I think, yes, yep, yep. And it took
a day. It was like six days to take out
all of his locks. So okay, like walk me through
(01:37):
when you say take out all of Jesse's locks, how
are you combing it out?
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Or like what is the process to actually do that?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
It was she had used the Sacred conditioner with combination
with the detangler's spread and then but when you're putting
it on there, then like I guess for people who
don't know and who don't have blocks, it's like we're
trying to understand because you spend so much time growing
them and they met together, right, so how do you.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Just so it matts together? So it's like a combination.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
You have to remember your hair not your hair intertwines
with one another when you leave it alone.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
It's just what it does.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
And in the process of that of like years of
just intertwining with one another. It just if you're not
maintenancing it by like doing it individually, which is a
different style. But he had more of like a free
form wicklock, so it was much easier to take out
(02:37):
because it's just not as so many little blocks that
you have to comb through.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
So his was like, you know, you just have bigger sections.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
And just like let the product penetrate the hair, and
the more it penetrates your hair, it just gets softer
and you just gently go through it and just gradually
get to the root of the hair. So I'm a
little tender headache, right, So if it was me, I'm like, like,
is that something that's happened in real time too? Like
it's like this hurts because you're used to people not
(03:07):
picking in your hair stockling, so it's like, yeah, it's everybody.
It's you haven't touched your head in like, you know,
so many years, so you have to be gentle.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
So you just have to take that in consideration as
you're doing that.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
You know, you just have to gently like separate the
hair and just go through it. You have to take
care of the hair, like it's a Cashman sweater. You're
just gonna throw your cashmet sweater in the washing machine.
How many people worked on it at one time? Was
it just one person at a time?
Speaker 1 (03:34):
It was oh, what's Marie?
Speaker 2 (03:39):
At first, just like you know, going through it, and
then you know, it was like a team of us
just making sure that it was properly taking out. And
then so when you talk about the sacred, the tangler
and the product, I know that first night when he
did the preview show, he had the hoodie on and
a lot of us were like, I mean, we just
figured the dress were there, but because it was a preview,
he just popped out.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
You know, she's in and.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Out like he just incognito. And that's why the hoodie
was on. But what did he have a twist out
at that time? No, it was a breakout, So it
was yeah, so I braided his hair. I use I
used the foam moose accommodation with the bomb from Sacred.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
From all this was all Sacred products.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
So now right, so what's the process. So that's the
night before, so you do a braid out in his hair.
How long does it take for you to braid out?
Once the locks are out and his hair is washed.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
So we took the braik. The locks came out like
a week prior to that.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Oh okay, yeah, this was like, yeah, this was not
just a one day thing. This was like, you know,
definitely anticipated. He definitely has a method to his madness.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
So yeah, so he definitely did this process, like I believe,
like a week. It was like the twenty something and
then I break it.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
I saw that his can I breathe? And absolutely yes.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
It was definitely taking care of his giving him a
lot of TLC on his scalp, using the sacred jobs,
you know, and just misiding not in sens hair, and
just making sure that his scalp, which is you know
the most important part of your hair, you know, just
taking care of that before we braided him, because you know,
it was a week of just you know, pulling and
(05:24):
tugging and.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
This and that. You know, I just don't want to
put nobody in pain like that.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I got you. Oh my god, I can't imagine all that.
The it's like when you take out braids and you
and you've had him in for a while.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Oh my god, God, I will never understand the pain.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I mean, jay Z does now though, right, but guys
like yes, it is a very like tender scalp feeling.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
But okay, So he has the braid out and I
say he's a thug. He took it.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I mean yeah, So then you have the braid out,
the breidout is in his head, so it's there. I guess,
like what for a few twenty four hours? Like how
long is the breidout in for?
Speaker 1 (06:02):
For a week? A week?
Speaker 2 (06:04):
So then when you remove the braid out, is he
doing products every day with the braidout, like to make
sure that the breidout is not getting dry and madic No.
I mean before I put the braids into his hair,
I made sure that I properly took care of it. So,
like I said, I was using the sacred drops first
and then I use the moisture seal and I put
(06:25):
all of that into his hair, put some of the
shield which is the new product line, just to make
sure that while I was blowing it out, I you know,
take care of the heat process. And then I braided
his hair and then put some of the foam on
top once the braids were in, and then just rug
(06:45):
got to so he just had like straight backs correct
at that point, okay. So then so now we're at
the preview show that he did, which is that went
viral because everybody saw be on the side, right, Beyonce
on the side. So then that night do you start
do you leave it alone? And in early the next
morning do you take down jay Z's braid out?
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Like? How does that work?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
So we just put some phoam in his hair and
then just took it out, make sure that the foam
of course, was you know, dry completely, and then I
use some of the of the bomb as I was
taking it out just to keep that moisture in his hair.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Got you?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
And then so because another thing too, is is like
when you have the dreds in your hair for a while,
even people that do braids for a while, if you
try to go lower, because the rumor is he's going
to go lower if he tries to do that, will
there be lines in his scalp? Because I've seen that
before too, Like how do you prevent that? No, there's
no lines in your scalp when you have braids. I
mean just your hair is kind of like you've uniformed it,
(07:44):
so it would just move towards a certain way.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
But there's no permanent lines in your hair? Got you?
Is there anything because I feel like I just got
all up in the hair business.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Is there anything I haven't actually that you think is
important for people to understand when it comes to, you know,
lock removal, because there's so many myths online right now.
Because yes, it's the key point to it, which is
really important. It's just taking your time and making sure
that the hair is properly hydrated and like just make
sure that you're putting enough moisture into the hair because
(08:16):
once you put moisture in their hair, it kind of
just like helps that process to like dissolve it and
like soften it and make the coma process easier.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
And just take your time. There's no rush, especially if
you're trying to preserve the link.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
So are we going to see locks again? Like what
happens now? Like is it just the fro like JZ
fro forever? Like what happens now?
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I don't know. That's oh my god, like what I mean,
everybody he wants to know do his thing. Man, he
could lock it up. I heard you, all right, Well,
thank you for joining me.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
I really appreciate it, and I appreciate all the information
I think we all learned. I mean, I knew that
you could take down locks, but a lot of people
did not know.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
They think that this is like a clone.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Oh no, girl, and it's not a lace front, so
cut it out, noggs.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
That was another event that I saw to.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
It's crazy that you have to let people know that
jay Z would not put on a lace front. I
mean that there's nothing about that it's given Marcie at all.
But thank you, and it's beautiful, healthy, and it's thick.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Shout out to.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Sacred because y'all got going, y'all got something going on.
His hair is beautiful and it's really healthy and thick.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
That's all I could say.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Was that your first time using the Sacred products. No,
I've been using Sacred since it first launch. Got you
and then like when you when you took that So
like when jay Z's dress are taken out right and
you're about you're prepping it to do the braids for
the breidout, are you cutting?
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Is there a lot of dead hair?
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Like? Are you like you click the ends of it?
Like because I just can't imagine like the transformation. I
guess like you said it's healthy, but that actually listens.
Beautiful thick, healthy hair like the hair gods was definitely
on his side. Yeah, because you know, some people take
down things that have been on there, like whether it's
(10:09):
locked or even if you have twist braids or whatever.
And there's a lot of dead hair because you leave
it for some time. But yeah, okay, that's it. I
promise I'm done.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
He ate that. Well.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Look, I know you're headed back from the roost picnic.
I know you're tired. We ain't got no voice if
anybody is done, none, no voice. And the weather was
all over the place this weekend too.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
That didn't help, right, Yes, but yeah, not it. And
I appreciate you for clearing all the things up.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Shout out the sacred, though, I feel like people about
to be trying some things now shot out.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Sacred and them drops, baby, them drops. It's hot. So
it's really like that, No, it's really like that.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
I've seen some things.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
I got some clients that.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
What we see, we saw. It's so nice to meet you, though,
and I was say, congratulations, but I've seen it. I've
seen it. You've been working for a while now. Yes,
glad to be.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Able to have this conversation with you.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
And honestly, this educational moment with you when it comes
to you know, locks and our hearts.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
So thank you. I'll talk to you soon. Thank you. Bye.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
