Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, After Show podcast at Show Army. Hi, good morning,
good afternoon, good night. Whenever you're listening to this, thank
you for listening. It is the After Show Podcast. It's Tuesday,
June thirtieth, last day of June. Wow, that went quick.
Tomorrow is July first, Dave Portnoy, already, man, it's been
months since it was announced. I remember when was that?
(00:23):
Was it the end of twenty twenty five, maybe it
was twenty twenty six, but Lisa sent the DM and
he sent it back. I remember when it happened and thinking, oh, man,
June so far away and now here we are. Time
goes quick. And you know what's funny about that. I
actually learned this recently. I was reading or listening to
a podcast. I forget it. You know, you learn things
(00:43):
in life that the reason and I might butcher this
because I think I was like half asleep when I
was listening or reading or whatever. The reason why. If
you're listening to this and you know you can break
this down, better leave a talk back. But the reason
why time goes faster as you get older is because
when you're young, you're constantly making new memories, new adventures,
(01:05):
new things are happening, so it kind of stretches out time.
But as you get older, you make less memories, you've
kind of done it all, so it makes time go faster.
Something along those lines, and it makes sense. I mean,
think about it. When you're a kid, you think about
getting older, and it seems so far away. Right When
you're a kid, you just want to be an adult,
(01:25):
and then when you're an adult, you just want to
be young again because you can't get that time back.
I remember being like under eighteen, wanting to be eighteen,
or wanting to be twenty one, or wanting to be
a teenager. You know. I remember being nine or ten
and I had older cousins that were running around, you know,
we used to go to Cape Cod when we were kids,
and I remember being I don't even know eight, nine,
(01:45):
ten years old. I had an older cousin and he
got in trouble for sneaking out of the house and
he was meeting up with girls, and I was like,
I just want to be a teenager. But then as
you get older, you just want to be younger. It's
one of those things. But yeah, time just goes very
very fast. That's why they say live in the moment.
I try to say it to my son all the time.
He's just like me. Our brains are wired exactly alike.
(02:07):
He's always thinking about the future, and he just doesn't
he can't wrap his head around live for today. You know,
we're going to Old Wachu Beach this weekend, and yesterday
he's like, when are we leaving? I'm like, Thursday, when
are we coming home? Monday? Oh? What time Monday? Well?
When this check out of the hotel usually probably like
eleven or twelve? No, no, no, can we stay later? Like?
(02:28):
Can we check out and then stay at the beach longer?
And I'm like, Abel, let's worry about getting there and
having fun. We're going Thursday, we have Thursday, we have Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Let's worry about Monday. When it comes in my head,
I'm thinking, by Monday, we just want to get home,
like we've probably had enough. It's a lot of days
at the beach. We gonna have a great time. But
if you have young children, you know what I mean. So, yeah,
(02:52):
Dave Portnoy, Tomorrow, that's exciting. I'm going with two of
my friends, the two mics. They're excited. I'm excited. It's
gonna be really, really great. You know, whether you whether
you love Dave Portnoy or hate him, he's a controversial figure.
I like Dave, you know, I think super successful, super
interesting guy, funny, and look at what he's done. It's
(03:12):
a huge get for Lisa in her book club. So
I'm so so happy for her. You know, she has
grown this thing immensely. You know, I remember when she
started it. It was something that she always wanted to do,
but it was always kind of afraid to start, did
no way to start, and then for whatever reason, she
lit a fire and boom, you know, now reading is everywhere.
You know she was. You know, obviously reading has always
(03:32):
been a huge part of society, but you know, I
feel like she started her book club and now everyone's reading.
You know, everyone has. Every celebrity has a book club. Dua,
Lipa has a book club. Now, you know, you have
the long term ones like Oprah. Oprah's book club has
been around forever, but yeah, Lisa's book club has just
grown crazy. So the Dave Portnoy is going to be great.
(03:54):
Tomorrow and then Thursday we work, and then we go
on vacation and enjoy the Fourth of July Thursday is
my wife's birthday too, July second, so she loves the
fourth of July. She loves fireworks because you know it's
her birthday, so you know it's always around the fourth
of July and there's always fireworks, So there'll be fireworks
and old watch your beach. I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Hey, Justin, it's Lynn. Oh my god listening to Jen
and how she is my god. We should be best
friends because I am the same exact way. Everything needs
to match, everything has to be perfect, the decorations, everything,
and she did an amazing job because I saw your
Instagram post. Also, to download the BJS app, the card
(04:36):
will be on the app, so all you have to
do is scan the barcode when you get to DJ's.
So there's a thought fight.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Yeah, she's talking about my podcast from yesterday, talking about
the party and my wife wanting everything to be perfect
and us arguing because the chairs didn't match and I
had to go to Bjy's didn't have a BJ's card,
and she's right, yeah, Well, when I I went home,
she took a picture of the barcode and then sent
it to me, and I just used the barcode at
the self checkout. I don't know if that's a hack
(05:07):
or not, but it worked for me, and then I saved.
I saved the picture in my favorites on my phone,
So now I have a BJ's card. Like I'm all set.
So that's good. But yeah, there's a lot going on. Man,
it's gonna be hot too. It's gonna be very very
hot this week. Good time to go on vacation. But
I hope it doesn't rain or like crazy thunderstorms in
Old Orchard. A couple of my friends, of our friends
(05:29):
are already there. A few of our friends are already
there waiting for us. One of my friends are staying
there for two weeks, another one is there for a week,
so it's gonna be like a big reunion there, just
the team hanging out. I have another friend coming up
on Saturday. I think Nanny's going up on Friday with
two of her friends. So I hope you have some
vacation planned. I hope you are going somewhere cool, and yeah,
(05:53):
I don't know. Like I was looking at our prep list.
We have like a prep list every day of like
you know, hot topics things going on, and we kind
of picked from those and then also pick from our
personal lives. That's kind of how we build the show.
And one of the topics was, you know, where are
you your happiest? And I feel like the number one
is definitely a vacation, right, Like I can say I'm happy.
(06:15):
I'm happy when I'm with my family and I'm at home, Like, yeah,
that's like probably my happiest. But I'm also happy when
I'm at the gym and I'm working out or with
my friends. But I feel like on vacation it's for everybody,
you know. It's like it's like when you're a vacation,
time doesn't matter. I was saying that to my friend
who's in Old Old Oacha Beach for two weeks. That's
his big vacation with his family. I'm like, when you
(06:36):
get there, it's like there's no time. It's because you
don't have anything to do but relax, and it just
makes me happy. I don't know, like I have memories
of a kid as a kid of going on vacation,
and we vacation's vacation wherever it is. But we didn't
really go anywhere far. I never went on planes anywhere.
(06:56):
We went to New Hampshire to Maine, Sebago, Cape Cod
There was a Cape a Cape house in my family,
so really just stayed around New England. But still we
did go on vacations and it was the same when
I was a kid, and those memories have stayed with
me forever.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
You know.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
I had mentioned my older cousin sneaking out of the
house when I was a kid. You know, those memories
are kind of ingrained in me, and I talk about
that all the time. Is giving my kids those memories
that they can look back on, because that's life really
is about memories if you think about it, you know,
it's it's looking back at, like, you know, the best
times of your life. And I hope that when my
(07:32):
children get older they remember going to Old Orchard Beach,
going to Aruba, and just continuing to make those memories.
It's a really important thing for me, you know, as
much as they drive me crazy. So for today, I
am headed to the gym. Funny enough, my happy place.
I've booked at twelve o'clock class. It's a shred class.
(07:53):
So at the gym that I go to, it's called
Drive Custom Fit. It's in Tuscan Village. I love it there.
It's so good. It's the best gym that I've ever
been to. They have a well, they have an open
gym right, but then they have a turf where they
have classes on. But then they have several different rooms
of classes. They have a lift room, which is just
it's not heated or anything. It's just all like dumbbells
(08:14):
and benches and it's a lift class. Then they have
a Synergy room, which is all cable systems and some
free weights, and that's like a lifting class as well.
So it's all the classes are like an hour long,
you know, station to station, and then they have two
heated rooms which are Shred and Phase. Phase is just
a cycling class in the heat, and then Shred is
(08:37):
a cycling class in the heat, but also with weights,
so you do bike weights, bike weights back and forth.
And then they have yoga and private training upstairs that
the yoga rooms heated, so I'm doing a shred core class,
so it's basically going to be cycling in the heat
along with core exercises. And they are some of the
hardest classes that you can do for real, like so hard,
(09:00):
but it's great, you know, it's great, and I think
that I like prefer doing that over just going and
lifting weights. You know, that has definitely changed for me.
A lot of that is injuries. You know, lifting too
heavy and pushing my body too hard led to injuries.
My shoulders all messed up. And I feel like the
cardio mix with the weights really fits me better and
(09:22):
I just feel better when I do it. So I
got a Dexa scan. Shout out to Game Day Men's Health.
I went there recently. I hoped to work with them
soon on the radio station. But I went for an
initial meeting and I got a bunch of treatments done.
They did some PRP on my shoulder, some shockwave therapy,
and they did a Dexa scan on me, which basically
reads your body fat and all your stats on your health.
(09:45):
It's actually a really really cool machine, so check this out.
I got the results back the other day. So it
says I have a strong fat free mass. So your
fat free mask constitutes a significant eighty two percent of
your total body with ready for this. I was reading
this to my wife all weekend. This indicates a robust
(10:05):
muscular foundation, which is essential for overall strength, metabolism, and
functional movement. A healthy proportion of muscle not only enhances
physical performance, but also supports long term health by regulating
hormones and promoting a balanced body composition. Okay, I like this.
I like this, So then the second one is healthy
(10:26):
skeletal muscle mass. With a skeletal muscle mass of thirty
nine kilograms corresponding to forty percent of my body weight,
I demonstrate excellent muscle development. This suggests this is the
important part that you are likely engaging in sufficient physical
activity or resistance training, which is vital for maintaining muscle
strength and enhancing metabolic health as you age. So I
(10:50):
got a good reading. I did post this actually on
my Instagram. It said that I was obese, but they
were like, don't listen to that because it's just based
on your bodyweight. I'm two hundred and sixteen pounds, but
I have high muscle, they said, so. But my favorite
part of this is what I just read there that
I am engaging in sufficient physical activity or resistance training,
(11:10):
which is both and that's vital for you know, all
your health essentially. And I attribute a lot of that
to these classes that I do, whether it's the circuit training,
the high rocks training, which I do as well. On
the weekends, or the classes like shred or Phase. I
don't do Phase a lot because I like the mix
of lifting and cycling, you know. And I had this
conversation with my son the other day, oh, yesterday, I
(11:32):
should say, because he goes to boxing two days a week.
And what I love about him going to boxing is,
you know, they have strength and conditioning days, they have
boxing days, right, and so he kind of prefers one
to the other depending on the week. Some days he's like, kin,
don't want to do boxing, I'll just strength and conditioning.
And most days he doesn't want to go. So when
he finds that he has to go, he's like, oh man,
he's not happy about it, right, which I expect fully,
(11:55):
But he never says I'm not going okay. He always goes,
and then once he gets there, he never complains. He
does all the way. He actually likes it because he's
very active, so he likes it. He never ever complains.
He never says I want to leave. I'm not going
to do an exercise. It's just about getting there, and
that is perfectly fine with me. I was explaining it
to my wife. I go, I expect that you don't
(12:16):
just want to go to the gym. That takes time
to develop to get to. Like where I'm at. I
enjoy going to the gym. I'm motivated to go. Some
days I don't want to go, but it's like I
still am going, right. It's like when I get into
the ice bath the cold plunge. Most times, my head's like,
don't get in, but I know no matter how long
(12:37):
I stand there waiting to go in, checking my phone,
you know, walking around killing time debating on whether to
go in or not, I know I am going in,
so I just end up getting it over with. It's
the same with the gym. I can have a thought
that I'm not going to go, but deep down the
decision has already made, like I'm going to the gym,
(12:58):
and I'm not going to talk myself out of it.
As much as my head tells me too, I'm just
gonna go. So that takes time to develop. And I
was explaining it to my son, it's okay to not
want to go, Dude, I don't want to go. I
don't want to go at all, but I still am going,
and he kind of gets it. He's like, yeah, like
I don't I gotta go to boxing, and it kind
of at first bothered me until I kind of thought
(13:21):
about it and really like what I'm explaining to you,
And I'm like, yeah, that's normal. He doesn't want to go,
but he does great when he goes, and it's it's
really cool, man, because I work out while he work
out works out. So I go to LFG Fitness. It's
a boxing club. It's in Salem, Hampshire. It's right near
my house. And the owner, Chris, who's I went to
(13:41):
school with funny enough in Maldon, is the owner. So
when I brought my son in there and I saw
that he was the owner, and I was like, dude,
what's up, it was like a reunion. And he's like, listen,
I tell all the parents they can work out for
the hour free of charge. So if your son's working
out here, you can use the weights, you can use
the t mills, whatever. So I take advantage of that. So,
(14:03):
like yesterday, my son's doing strength and conditioning in the
gym and I'm right there. I'm working out. I'm lifting weights,
I'm stretching, I'm doing cables, and so I kept he
kept looking over at me, and I'm looking at him
and giving them the thumbs up. It was like father son,
It was actually really really cool, And I think that's
being a good role model for him. You know, I
didn't grow up with somebody that, you know, my dad
went to the YMCA, but I didn't grow up with
(14:25):
someone that was like a dedicated gym goer like my
dad went. And I remember going with him to the
maddn why But you know, he wasn't like a hardcore
like you know, make this a part of your life,
whereas I am. So I hope that my son can
pick that up for me and build a lifelong habit
of exercising and going to the gym. That's really like
a big, big time goal of mine. So anyway, I
(14:48):
gottaet out of here. I gotta get to my shred class.
Have a fantastic day. Don't forget. You can always hit
the talk backs if you want to join the after show,
be a part of the after show, questions, comments, any
of that. If you go on to Dave Portnoy tomorrow,
I will see you there. Make sure you say hello.
It's gonna be hot, it's gonna be a great show.
And before they're gonna have Rich and Rosie from the
Real Housewives of Rhode Island, so if you watch that
(15:08):
show you will see them there in the entire morning
show as well. So talk tomorrow, be well,
