It is also my wife Jen's birthday. I love her

We'll be celebrating today. Vacation is starting. We're headed to
Old Orchard Beach.

Got to head home, got to pack up a little bit,
and then we are headed to Old Orchid Beach, Maine.

We were gonna go on Friday, but we ended up,
you know, signing up for an extra night to leave
today after work. So I got to go home, pack
up a little bit at the pool, ready to sit
for a few days, and then we're headed up to
the beach. Should be fun. I got my friends out,
Alan and Sage. We'll be there some other friends. It's
gonna be a good time, so we'll be there till Monday.

Last night, Dave Portnoy an amazing, an amazing and amazing event.
Oh my god, I could talk forever about this. First
of all, meeting everybody was so cool. I've been to
these book clubs. It's always so great to meet people.
It feels really good to really hear from people who
listen to the show.

Radio is a weird thing, it really is, because you
can't You can kind of measure who's listening and how
many people, but you really don't know. So you know, essentially,
we do a show and it's just us four in
the studio, right well, it's Billy Lee set myself in Riley,
and you can't really it feels like you're talking to nobody,
but you're really talking to a lot of people. So

when when we meet people and they say things like
about my story or about about you know, my legs
or my gym routine or anything about any of us,
it just feels good, you know. Or after show army members,
I met a ton of those you guys last night.
It just feels really good. It's like wow, man, like
people are listening and they really do make us a

part of their life, and that just feels really good.
And I want to say thank you to everybody that
you know, stopped to say hi, that maybe took a
picture with us.

You came to my house to the yard sale, then

at flag football because your daughter plays in the same
facility as my son, So of course I remember you.
Right when I saw you, I knew I knew a
bunch of people. Some of them I recognize the face
but not the name, and I would say to them,

I'm like we've met.

I remember you might not remember your name, but of
course I remember you.

Mo Justin, It's Mogan one thing I forgot. But this
is for my bestie Erica, who with me last night.
She said, Oh my god, I feel so bad for
Justin right now shaking all of these hands. Oh it
must be beside himself. If only they were true listeners
and after show army people and would fist pop him instead.

So I hope you probably loved washing your hands.

I did go right into the bathroom and wash my hands.
And it's not like a Howie Mandel thing where I
can't shake people's hands. It doesn't I don't care. I'll
shake anybody. I would never say no to not shaking hands.
It's just more of once I'm shaking people's hands, I'm
thinking in my head I should wash my hands, and
I feel like other people should feel the same that
you should want to wash your hands.

Not because people dirty or anything like that. It's not
one of those things. It's just about you know, germs
and stuff. I don't know. It's it's something you develop
later on in age. You know.

It's like when I was a kid, I'd smoke weed
and I'd share joints and blunts and bongs and pipes
with people. And I remember sitting in a circle with
like like a fat joint and it would go around
and around. Every time you get it'd be more wet, soaking,
sopping with spit, and I'd be like, well, no, what
was there?

And now I like don't want to shake people's hands.
It's not that I don't want to shake people's hands.
It's just that, Yeah, she Mo nailed it. As I'm
shaking people's hands, it doesn't gross me out to actually
shake them. But once I'm done, I'm thinking, like, I
should go wash my hands. And I washed my hands
after doing anything.

I wasn't always like a germaphobe like that, but good
call on that one, Mo. But yeah, it was a
shout out to everybody that that I met last night. Angelus.
The scientist Sarah from Maine was there, pregnant.

We were able to.

Get her, you know, upstairs and in early so she
wasn't standing in the ninety degree heat while she's like
eight months pregnant.

That was cool. Of course, Linn Bach was there. Who else?

Who else, Oh God, so many other people. It was
just amazing. Now let's get to the actual event itself.
Dave Portnoy. You know, when we went into the green
room to meet him, you know, you never know what
to expect with these people. I kind of knew that
Dave was cool, right, Like I had never met him before.
We can kind of get that vibe with him that

you know, he's just a regular dude and he is
who he is online in real life.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
And that was so true.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Like we walked back right to Dave, started talking to him,
introduced myself, and then Billy was kind of walking kind
of behind me a little bit. So when I introduced myself,
I said, I just want to tell you, you know, I've
worked in radio for so long, and when I first
got hired, like just started getting on the air. Really
my first my longest time on the air and a

real taste of what radio is about, which is live
and local, was the bad Boston Marathon bombings, specifically the manhunt.
So a few days after the bombing, you know, I'd
gotten up at like two thirty to come to work,
and as soon as I woke up, I opened Twitter
and Dave Portney was live tweeting the manhunt. It was
one of the craziest things ever. And I told him
that story and he was like, oh my god. He's like,
(06:24):
you don't even know how many people say that's how
they hurted me, that's how they found out about me,
was from tweeting, because he was like, it's a different
time then, and he was listening to a scanner and
you know, at that time, I was going on the
air live in the morning giving updates based on Dave's tweets.
It was actually crazy. So we had that conversation. Then
(06:44):
he looked at Billy and he goes, how the hell
haven't we met before to Billy, you know, because he
obviously knows who he is. And then we just had
a great conversation. He was watching the World Cup back there.
I brought two of my friends, Mike and Mike, they
met him, took a picture with him. He was just
super cool and he was like making jokes, just as
he is on Instagram. Just a really, really, really cool guy.

And as far as the book club itself, I think
Lisa did a fantastic job. There was so much to
talk about, so many topics to cover, and she did
a great job just navigating through it all and we
got the you know, we got everything. We wanted him
more from him, right Obviously, he talked about the book,
He talked about Taylor Swift, he talked about Barstool call
her Daddy. Jalen Brown interviewing Donald Trump. Now we didn't run.

That was one of my favorite ones about the Trump thing.
And again I've done the political rant on this podcast.
By the way, there were people that were now boycotting
the show was unbelievable that the home. I cannot believe
you had the maga, Dave Port. I'm done with this show.
You were never funny anyway. Since Maddy left, the show

has just gone downhill. I woke up to those dms
this morning. I'm like, dude, fucking get a life, man,
really like, get a life, Like move on, find something
that makes you happy. If something like that makes you
so unhappy, you need to focus on what's gonna make
you happy. So you know, I don't respond to those dms.

I just block them. Well, I screenshot it and I
send it to my friends. To be honest with you,
that's what I do. I screenshot them and I send
it in my group chat. So we can all laugh
at how fucking stupid the people are and then we
move on with that life. But he told the story
about Donald Trump. Lisa asked them, and his parents were
there and they were so cute. His dad, and his
dad's like really older. He's not disabled, but you know,

he's an older guy, so he kind of he's slow
to get around. So he was up on the upper
level over the stage, so he was looking down on Dave.
So from my view side stage, I'm looking across at
Dave and then right above him is his dad looking down.
And he told the story about he got the call, well,
he let it with his dad hates Trump. He's a

Trump Peter hates hates them. He's one of these people
that will tell anybody that will listen how much Donald
Trump sucks. So he gets to call it interviewing interview him.
He says yes, he doesn't tell his dad. He does
the interview, and then afterwards he goes, can we do
a can you do me a favor? Can we FaceTime
my dad? And he facetimed his father with Donald Trump,

and you know, his dad picks up and Lisa was like,
what do these says? What does your dad say, and
he's like nothing, he froze up, like that was my
son with Donald Trump. It was just a really really
funny moment, really really good and yeah.

She asked them about running for office. I don't know.

The entire stream is up on the Kiss Facebook, so

was an electric moment. I was so happy for Lisa.
It's so great to see what she's built, the community
that she's built. You know, people are showing up, people
are reading, people are participating, people are meeting others and
building relationships, sometimes friendships and sometimes relationships.

I should say it was just so cool. It was
just really really great.

So you can watch all the pictures and videos on
the Instagram, TikTok, all that stuf of social media, and
again on the kids Facebook. Is the full stream. I
would recommend watching it even if you're not a huge
Dave port Nooy fan. I did see a lot of
comments about that that you know, they're not They don't
even think about Dave port Noy, they know who he is,
they're not really huge fans. They probably don't follow him
on social but then they watched that interview and heard

how he talked and everything, and they liked it and
they became fans of him. Listen, he's like a no
holds barred guy. He does what he does. He's very smart,
he's been very successful, but he doesn't apologize for who
he is. And you got to respect that in a sense.
And I get like the hatred and stuff because he
interviewed Trump and you know, all the political stuff.

I just I'm on the stance of I don't hate
people because of who they like. You know, I can
disagree with people, but I don't like hate them and
fucking leave talkbacks and send dms to people that I
don't even know about.

Hatred and all that stuff. Man, life's too short. Remember that,
as I go off on vacation, I will say that
life is too short to be hating. All right.

We want to be positive. That's one thing about this show,
this morning show that we try to focus on. Because
you can say what you want about this show that
maybe it's boring or it's not exciting or whatever you
want to say about.

It, it's positive and we keep it positive every day.
And I feel like the community that we've built, not
just at the book club with Lisa. But the community
like within the talkbacks and the talk back mafia and
letting people come in and be a part of our
show is positive. So try to do that, you know.

And it's a good message for me too as I
go off on vacation and spend time with my family.
It's about worrying about what matters.

dartboard what matters. So what's the most points the bullseye
and outside, So that's what you want to focus on.
You want to focus on your loved ones and your
close friends and the people that really matter in your life.
The people that DM me or leave nasty talkbacks every day,

but then just critic.

not really worth a ton of points in the sense

and outside, So that's what you want to focus on.
You want to focus on your loved ones and your
close friends and the people that really matter in your life.

but then just critic.

They're on the edge of the dark board. So they're
not really worth a ton of points in the sense
of in my life, in the show's life, so we're not.

We don't try to pay too much attention to them.
We worry about the good, and the good is in
this case, getting Dave Portnoy, getting people to read, selling
some books, raising money for raising a reader, you know,
building community. That's all positive stuff. So listen, we're done.
