Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh, okay, the after show podcast is on. It is
justin here. Welcome in everybody. First and foremost, I want
to say sorry for no podcast on Friday. I was
a bit tired. I was a bit busy. Billy had
me running ragged all morning, so to try my best
to check in and sometimes I can't, and it is
what it is. But I'm here today. It is Monday,
October twenty seventh. I hope the weekend was awesome. I
(00:23):
had a good weekend. I didn't. I had baseball with
my son and then had some people over for the
game yesterday, which we typically do when the Pats are on,
and it was a low key weekend. We're looking forward
to next weekend. But Halloween is on Friday and it
looks like it's going to rain, so I have to
deal with that fallout with my wife. But anyway, I'm here,
and if you just listen to the show, this is
the companion piece that goes with the Billy and Lisa show.
(00:46):
It's where I jump on and I used to have
a co host, Winnie, but she's no longer here, so
now it's just me and sometimes I'll be talking to
myself and sometimes I'll be talking to others, random people.
Ashley Feldman from Jamming's gonna come on this week. Maybe
we'll get Billy Lisa. But today a special guest for
maybe the second time, Producer Riley, is here. Hi Riley, Hello, Yeah,
(01:10):
producer Riley. You were actually heavily requested to join the
after show.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Really?
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Oh that people want to hear from me?
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, well some people not some people
were upset. Well not you didn't do anything wrong, but
obviously with Winnie and that whole thing her being laid off,
people are upset about that, right, yeah, and it's like,
you know, what the hell? And I do want to
clear some things up around that Whinnie getting laid off
and then your new role stepping in. I want to
(01:38):
get to all that. But is this your first time
on the podcast?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
No, well you've had me on before, Oh I have?
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeahs Okay, Can I ask you right off the bat
one question? Just get it out of the way to
answer any potential dms. Are you single?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Okay? I knew you were going to say that, Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
You are single. Okay, Now, Riley, you are mid twenties
and I'm not supposed to ask age mid twenties.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
I don't care. Twenty five.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
She's twenty five years old. You have been working on
this show for two years?
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, two years was the twenty fourth Okay, two.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Years yep, so Riley was when did you graduate college?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I'm twenty twenty two.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Twenty twenty two. And then you out of college? You
got a job on the Street Team here at the
radio station.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yes, yeah, Well I worked for the Bruins before that
and then Street Team.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yep, and you still work for the Bruins. Yes, you
work for the Bruins and for Kiss.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
So then Riley was on the Street Team. I had
never never met her, I did know anything about her.
We needed a phone screen er. Jojo left. We had
a girl from the Street Team. She lasted about a
month and then I don't know what her deal was.
She was super nice, maybe it wasn't her thing, and
so she left. And then they were like, well, it's
a girl, Riley that really wants to jump in and
she's really eager. So that's when you came to be
(02:54):
our producer, right, yep. Exactly a little over two years.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah. Basically emailed McCabe and Dylan basically begging them to
let me, just answer your phones.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
That's it. That's it. I mean, you do so much
more than just answer the phones.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Now yeah, yeah, so what time.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
What Riley has done on the show is basically she
would assist Winnie and I. Right, so she answered the phone.
She does the podcast. So any podcast issues you DM, Riley, Yeah,
actually please do Yeah, what is your instagram?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Riley k O'Brien, Riley k O'Brien.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Okay, so she does the podcast, answer the phones, and
then she also helps me and she helped Winnie too.
And how she helped me was remember when didn't you
fill in for me when I was out? Yes?
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yeah, oh my god. It was like three days of
me being like, I don't know what I'm doing.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah, Now you did a fine job. And then you
also backed up Winnie on the board, so you would
fill in for her if she had to go to
the bathroom or if she was out, you would fill
in on that, right.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
You also do the five am hour every day before
the show. You do Saturday morning eight to nine am,
the best of the week. Those are things that I
had when you started to show an interest in wanting
to be on air, I said, can you please take
these off my hands because I've been doing them for
so long and that's how I got my foot in
the door. Right, So it's good practice. Right. Do you
(04:11):
like doing it?
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I like doing it. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Are you upset that I pawned it off on you?
Speaker 2 (04:17):
No? No, I'm not upset. I did I wish that
stuff like that came with more money, Yes, yes, I point,
but you know, we all have to start somewhere. And
that's the advice that you always give me.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
That's it. I know it sucks. It sucks to say
because I remember when I was like coming up and
I've made no money for so many years, and my
family told me to walk away, and there were people
that would hear longer that said your time will come.
Your time will come, And it's true. Can I say
the same thing to you? You never know when your
time is going to come? Okay, So that's what you've
been doing for the past couple of years. And then
(04:52):
all of a sudden one day they're like, we're doing
layoffs and they lay off Winnie. That was crazy. Now,
that morning was nuts. I've told the story from my
point of view. Now from your point of view. You
were in your studio, did you even know something was
going on.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Oh, I had no idea. You guys actually scared me
badly because I was putting up the podcast and you came.
You and Dylan walked into the main studio and you like, onto,
oh yeah, I called you a glass that is between us,
and it scared me so bad and I walked in.
I went, I tried to make a joke like, I
was like, oh, you guys scared me, and everybody's face
(05:30):
was like so blank that I was like, okay, not
the time we're joking.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Yeah, we get no warning on that stuff.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Oh, no idea, it's.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Crazy, It's crazy. Okay, So my first time will pause there.
My first time it ever happened to me. I came
in working as an intern on the Romero and Pebble's
morning show on Jammin' and that was a show that
had been around forever. So I was an intern on there,
and one day, just like that morning, I went, I
was working in the studio. The show ended, and then
I saw people going in and out of the studio.
(05:57):
I really didn't know what was going on. And then
Santi came in and I never forget the look on
his face, and he's like they've got rid of Melissa
and Pebbles, two of the co hosts on the show,
gone crazy, and I go, oh, what do you mean gone?
What do you mean? They're like they're gone. Like that's
how that's how it goes. So that was my first experience.
But every time it happens, and it's happened since then,
(06:18):
it happens in every company. That's the thing that sucks,
Like it could happen to me, It could happen to
any of us, you know. It's just it's a really sucky.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Thing, especially when we work for such a big company.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, it's crazy. It happens at the same exact time
across the entire country. There isn't I can't say this enough.
There isn't like a time when they come to us
and say, hey, we're thinking about.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Doing this change.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
They just do it. It's like I remember I said
to my boss, I go, is it like does it
have to be this way? And it's like, yeah, the
decision has been made. There's not like going back from it.
It's a tough thing. So that happened that morning, right,
So then they tell us what's going on, and then
so obviously Winnie's role on the show was multiple things, right.
She was the voice, okay, so she spoke on the show.
(07:02):
She was a co host, and then she was also
a producer and so she ran the board and she
did some other things, the video cameras, all that stuff.
And luckily Riley had been already doing it right. So
some people make comments like, oh, you were you training
Riley to take over for Winnie. First of all, you
didn't take over for Winnie, like you don't speak on
(07:24):
the show.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yeah, it's not the same role.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
You're a producer. Yeah. So luckily we had you right
because if it wasn't you, it was going to be me.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, and that would not work.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
That would not work on the show. That would not
work on the show. So so Riley, you've definitely stepped up,
and you've definitely obviously we're trying to fill up avoid
producing wise and on the air wise, you know what
I mean. And so the producing part is really an
important piece to it, and you've done a great job.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Thank you. I think a lot of things. Another thing
that people don't realize too, is that when you guys
are away on vacation, I'm producing the show by myself
like you do. All of the tracks. But then I'm
here making sure that it runs correctly. And I have
been doing that for like a year now. So they
luckily knew that they could trust me, which is a
good thing that it worked out like that. Like it
(08:13):
it sucked and we didn't know what was going to happen,
but like I guess it was good that I was there.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
It's great that you were there. It's great that you
were there. And I've told you this before about my
like journey and radio. I just learned as much as
I could, and then like when an opportunity came, you know,
sometimes at a in a sad instance, you're there ready
to go, like Okay, I can step in, I can
fill this position, I can do this work. So it's
been you've helped make the transition easier, you know, you
(08:42):
know what I mean, because it's not been easy. It's been.
It's been tough. I know a lot of people are
struggling with it too. Like I got a DM the
other night, I of nowhere, Saturday, I'm chilling at home,
A DM comes there and it's a woman. Don't you
care about Winnie? Like what what are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (08:56):
And we've said that multiple times. Yeah, Like we can't
say it every day, but we've said it enough that
it's Yeah, we didn't want this to happen, but it did.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Yeah, it's just the way it is. It's just it's
just the way it is. Like when he'll be fine, y,
it sucks, but it's like next chapter is a new
chapter for her.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
And I'm extremely lucky to have been able to learn
from both of you.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Yeah. So yeah, when he taught you all that stuff,
like all the stuff you're doing there, thank god I
didn't have to because more work for me, you know.
So you've done a great job. So are you Are
you okay? Besides the money piece, are you happy with?
Like are you feel overworked?
Speaker 2 (09:34):
No? I am. It's like a lot of responsibility that
I took on because I'm obviously doing both my role
from before and then in addition like running the board
and every.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Great great point. Yeah, so not only your position didn't
get filled, correct, right, your your position of in the
your studio, answering the phones, podcasts, and now you're doing
all this other work that when he was doing plus
year old work.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Right. Yeah, I'm I'm doing a lot which I've I
don't think people realize how much work I'm doing right now.
But yeah, I'm doing a lot. And I mean, I
love working with you guys. I love being part of
the show. Like and did we want this to happen? No,
but like I'm I'm glad that I'm trusted to step
(10:19):
into this position and or not, you know what I mean.
But yeah, I'm happy, good, good good.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Yeah, it's it's we're transitioning. And I said it this
weekend as somebody that was telling them the story about
you know, everything with winning and everything, and I go,
it's just like the new normal like that, you know
that COVID phrase. That's really what it is. It's just
the new normal, you know. And I think we're doing okay.
We're doing okay, we're adjusting, we're having fun as best
we can. That was the hardest part, right about the
whole thing, Yeah, is we do a comedy show, an
(10:48):
entertainment show. So here we are, boom, we lose one
of our members. We need to go on and have
a funny show like.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
What Yeah, like the next day and Billy wasn't.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Here, and Billy wasn't here.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Which is like, yeah, the craziest part.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Yeah, Mikey was here. Yeah, but even when Billy came back,
like the mood was down and we need to like
still put on a show. It's really a bizarre thing.
But you know what that is, Riley, That's what they
say is showbiz. Yeah, show bizz, baby, I guess, make
it work. I mean, it's not the first time it's happened.
It's not the last time it's gonna happen. It sucks,
and it's the way of the world. I think a lot. Look,
(11:21):
and I drive to work every morning, I listen to
WBZ radio and I listen to the headlines from around
the world, around the country, all that stuff, and I
hear it. I hear you know, Amazon lays off ten
thousand workers, you know all these different Target. Target is
laying off a ton right now too. It's just the
way of the world, man, you know, please keep it moving.
So I think for you, I think, well, first I
(11:43):
want to say thank you for all your help.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Well, thank you, yes, first of all for training me.
When I came to you after like four months in
and said, hey, I want to know what you do,
you were like, come here, little Bertie, I'll put you
under my wing and I'll train you up so when
something like this happens, you'll be ready.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Yeah, you're welcome. But the other part of that is
is is like I try to think of myself as
an egotistical person. I know that's an egotistical thing to say.
You know. It's like when you say, like, I'm humble,
you're not supposed to say I'm umble. It means you're
not humble. But I do sometimes feel like when when
I show people what I do and they're like wow,
(12:24):
you know, it makes me feel good, not in the
sense of I'm big and bad and great. I just
feel proud of the work that I do and how
I do it and the fact that I'm able to
show you and you're like, wow, that's really good. That's
how you do that. That's how you pull up the
audio so quick, that's how you store the audio. Wow.
So it just made me feel good.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, I will say I did stand over Justin shoulder
for about a year. Yeah, watching you constantly all the time,
and that is the correct reaction. When you watch what
Justin does, you go wow, that's how you do that.
That's crazy. Yeah, if anybody like could ever just like
stand over your shoulder. They'd be very impressed with you.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Yeah, it makes me feel good, you know, because I mean,
I take this very serious, this career that I've built.
It's uh. I always say, I always say this. I
always say for me, I like being on the air.
It's it's fun, it's great. I don't take it for granted.
I like, I like talking on the microphone. I think
I'm good at it some days, some days I don't.
But what I really love is the producing and the
(13:23):
audio aspect that I'm able to add. That makes me
feel good. Man, Yes, exactly, exactly. And that's the mist
That's the thing with the Winnie, right is with the
show is is I was I'm not a comedian, but
I can use the clips to be funny, you know
what I mean. And I can't do what Winnie did
Whennie would just say whatever she wanted. She just naturally
(13:43):
liked that in life, and so I can't do that.
But I can do that with the clips, you know,
I can't. I can't just I can't be mean. I'm
just not that person.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Well, Plus like there were times in the past where
I would maybe go down that road of being like
mean a little bit, and I think because of my past,
it just doesn't hit. It doesn't hit right, and it
feels a little weird. They're like, wait, you're a former
criminal who's been to prison, former drug addict, and now
you're mean, Like, no, you're the you know, you've turned
your life around. It doesn't work, So that's not me.
(14:14):
But I want to say, continue doing what you're doing.
You're doing a great job. And you're working for the
Bruins too. So on top of all that the extra
work here, how many days are you at the Bruins
every home game.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
I don't work every single home game. I work a
lot of Thursdays and Saturdays. I told my boss that
I will not be working Tuesdays anymore. Yeah, I basically
said it. It just doesn't work with my schedule anymore.
But yeah, I get home around eleven o'clock on game
days and then I get up at three thirty the
next day.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
There we go. So that's wait, so it's only Friday morning.
You're doing that? Yeah? Right, see Thursday and Saturday home games.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Correct. Yeah, But the way that it works is like
you have to work fifty percent of all games. So
like if there's only like if I have to work
a Tuesday and a Thursday back to back. I have to,
Like there's like no like option to not do it.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
And what do you do there?
Speaker 2 (15:05):
So I work on their promo teams, so everything that's
like fan facing marketing stuff. I go on the JumboTron,
I give away prizes. I work with Mikaela Johnson, who's
the in arena host. We're kind of like the first
face that you see when you enter the arena, and
we're just, you know, constantly having fun, hanging out with
fans stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
So you're like the street team for the Bruins, correct, Yeah,
And I should mention you are a giant Bruins fan. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Yeah, I'm big into into the hockey and into f one.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
So a little behind the scenes here. So Riley sits
in with the Billy and I as we gather all
the audio and Billy writes his reports, and so Billy's
had a long habit of not including the Bruins in
his report, and so Riley gets so mad. She's like,
He'll be like heity talking about the Celtics, the Bruin,
I mean the Celtics, Patriots, whatever, And Raley be like
this the Bruins won last night, Bell and then sometimes
(15:55):
she'll be like, you know, there's a sound bite from
you know whoever, this Bruins player, you know, and he's like, oh, yeah,
I'll throw them.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
I actually did that this morning.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
I was like, they won last night, and Jack Edwards
was there for the first time. He was like, yeah, okay,
didn't mention it.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Didn't mention it. Yeah. So you're a huge Bruins fan,
you're also a giant F one fan. Yes, that's kind
of random.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Yeah, yeah, I like I try to get into like
different things that I have this issue where I become
obsessed with things very easily and very quickly, and then
it takes over my life.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Right.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
A lot of people would say that's the curse of
the fangirl. Okay, because I feel that way about Taylor Swifts.
I feel that way about hockey, feel that way about
F one, you know, I feel that way about like
a lot of books that I read. But I love
it so I don't care.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
But it doesn't fade off, like you still love F
one yeah right.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Yeah, Like, And I was like, I was a huge,
like one direction fan. I'm like a big five sauce fan. Like,
I've always been like this always.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
You're a fangirl.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
I'm a fan girl, and I love it. It's the
best life.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
You're the only girl. You're the only girl I ever
met that likes F one. I know there's more, but yeah,
you're the first one that I've ever Well, the.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Funniest thing is that, like I offhandedly did say to
Bill one time, I was like, yeah, they're hot, which
they are, but that's not why I like it. And now,
like he said that on air, he's like, yeah, Riley
likes F one because the guys are hot. I can't
even see them when they're racing. They have helmets on, Bill,
what are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (17:16):
But they are hot hot?
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Well, they are hot, that's it. They're rich, hot men
who drive fast. It's awesome.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Yeah, but NASCAR is a no you don't like.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
I don't. I don't follow and Ascar I didn't get into.
So F one has Drive to Survive on Netflix and
that's what got me into.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Oh it's a show.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
It's a yeah, it's a reality quote unquote show.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Okay, okay, so that kind of introduced you to the
world of after correct. Yeah, a couple of years I
see well interesting. Well, Riley said at the top of
the podcast she was single Jesus some of her interests,
so if you have the same interest you can always
hit her up where.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Riley Riley K O'Brien on Instagram.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Riley K O'Brien, And I would just say, if anyone
ever gives you a hard time on Instagram, says anything
inappropriate or anything, you tell me okay, and I'll handle
it okay because you are an innocent bystander and all
of this bullshit. You're what you call the lowest person
on the totem pole, working your way up as I did.
You know so no, Riley hate Okay, thank you so much.
(18:14):
Now go back to work. Thank you.
