Speaker 1 (00:00):
God, it is so hot in my studio. I know,
you don't care what it is. I just want to
go start the after show and I am literally sweating,
so I don't touch the thermomastad in my studio because
it's funky and there's something going on with it and
I don't know what it is, but it's really hot. Anyway,
Welcome into the After Show podcast, everybody. It is a Thursday,
July sixteenth, almost through the first week after vacation, which
(00:24):
is always the toughest, by the way, getting back into
your routine. And I gotta say today's show felt great.
I mean, every show feels great, but I feel like
I'm really back into my stride. It's not easy. It's
not easy. It's not easy doing a show four hours
a day, being on point, you know, being engaging and
being funny. Listen, I'm new to all of this, right,
(00:46):
I'm no Billy that's been doing it for forty years.
I'm Maddie or Lisa, who's been doing it for twenty
six years. You know, I'm fairly new to the game.
So I'm learning. And by the way, I've always found,
okay that Monday the hardest day of the week. Coming
back from the weekend. I've said this before. I feel
like Monday is the worst show. You should still listen,
(01:08):
but I feel like not that you would even be
able to tell, but I guess, just like inside how
I feel about you know, my kind of vibe, Monday's
the worst, Tuesday is a little better, Wednesday gets even better.
Thursday and Fridays are the best. Fridays are the best
show that you can do. I mean essentially, like you know,
remember when Maddie was getting close to his retirement before
(01:31):
he was forced to retire, but he took Mondays off
for a year to kind of let Billy and Lisa
and myself and kind of do the show and Winnie.
But then you know, he took Mondays because Mondays are
kind of the slowest day. There's less listening, it's coming
off the weekend. You never want to take Fridays off.
Fridays are the best. So anyway, we just wrapped up
the show. Fun, fun, fun show, lots of stuff to
(01:52):
get to. If you do not listen to it, go
listen to it. We had some fun with the FIFA
halftime show this weekend. Good topic time about the Jim
Me sharing weird stories. You know, I just share what
I see I got. That's the thing about me. It's
like I'm an open book. Listen, I've been through so
much shit, too much shit in my life to be
judged by anybody. You know, there is There's a couple
(02:15):
of things that you can say about me that would
hurt me, one of which is that I'm lazy. That
would get me very upset because I work very hard
to not be lazy, so that would hurt me. So
if you ever want to hurt me, which I don't
know why you would call me lazy or not good
at my job, you know, those kind of go together,
you know, working hard and actually speaking of which this
(02:38):
is actually pretty amazing stuff. Man. Yeah, we looks like
we're gonna be number one for the entire quarter in Boston,
number number one morning show. Looks like we're gonna hit
our bonus, which is just an amazing thing. See, we
would always fluctuate, right, and the same thing as Maddy did, right,
Like Maddie was number one for so long, but then
(02:59):
like the last ten years, he'd go up and down. Right,
And how I know that it's based on our bonuses, right,
So we are bonused on being number one in our demo,
our certain demo. I won't go too far into it.
And so you know, when I first joined the show
in twenty sixteen, I was offered bonuses as it kind
(03:21):
of to make up for the salary that I wanted.
That's kind of a tactic that they do, not that
they don't want you to hit the bonuses, but it's hard, right,
so they'll offer you big bonuses instead of salary because
salary is like a cert sure thing, the bonuses are not.
So when I first started in twenty sixteen, I would
We would hit bonuses pretty regularly, like two to three
(03:43):
times a year, sometimes four times a year for the
first couple of years, and then it went away and
we did not hit a bonus for years and years.
We only hit it one time between twenty nineteen and
twenty twenty two, only one time we hit it, and
then we had not hit it. Since Matti retired and
the new show came on, we've been up and do right.
So it's hard. There's so many things going on. We'd
(04:03):
be number one, that we'd be number three, back to
number one, that we've been number four, always kind of
right around that area and you know, we worked super
hard to kind of get to that number one spot
and we did it finally, you know, finally, So it
was really it just felt so good man to know
that people are listening and people are loving the show.
And you know, the money, the extra money helps too,
(04:24):
you know, that helps too. And I was saying to
McCabe because he was texting me about it yesterday from
the Garden at the Bents and Boone show, and I
said to him, you know, it's it's not just like
the money, right for me, it's I put so much
into the show. We all do. But I'm talking about
me personally, not that I do any more than anybody else,
but from a personal standpoint, this show means so much
(04:47):
to me. You know, this career means so much to me,
and it's it's all I think about. And you know,
I show up every sing so like you know, I'm
an exec executive producer, not just a coast on the show.
I also executive produced the show. So when I when
I'm not working here at the radio station, I am
working all day, right, So even when I'm answering emails
(05:11):
or talking to people, it never stops. That's kind of
the job of a producer. So in other words, I'm
always thinking about the show every single day, you know,
and going to bed and then waking up, I'm thinking
about the show. How can I make it better? What
can we add, what can we what can we do
to make the show better. So to have kind of
see that hard work payoff really really really meant a
(05:35):
lot to me, you know, because I wanted to be
the best. You know, I want it to be the best.
I'm living my dream out here. I grew up listening
to this radio station. You know my story. I don't
have to say the story again. If you're listening to
this podcast, I'm sure that you know it. But it
was just really cool to sit in the meeting and
have the boss tell us this and show us the
numbers and be like, and he did that thing okay
(05:56):
where he started the meeting because the meeting was about
something else, but he started it with with this, and
he was very solemn. Okay, so he was doing it
on purpose to make it look like he was about
to deliver the bad news. So I'm like, oh man,
I thought we might thought we might be number one.
So he led up to it, let up to it,
let up to it and then he read the numbers
off and then he goes which means and I look
(06:19):
up and I go, we get what what what? And
we were all like yeah, and he was like, it's
ninety nine percent. We had to figure some stuff out,
but yes, congratulations, it looks like you hit it. So yeah, man,
it's good times. It's good times here. But anyway, back
to the show. I'm an open book. I'll share anything.
So we were talking about the gym, which I love
(06:40):
talking about this big part of my life, you know that,
and I talked about the zeb blowing out my neck thing.
It is so weird. That's been a that's like a
running joke between my friends and I with me with
ZEB and I. So yeah, I don't know how he
came up with it, but it really just as weird
as it is. It really just shows like how dedicated
we were, you know that. For some reason on that
(07:01):
day when I was going for like a five hundred
pound squat when I went down and he was squatting,
when he was spotting me, like behind me, he thought
at the very bottom of the squat by that blowing
on my neck would do something, and it did. It
was just the burst of air on my neck gave
me some push. I know it sounds absolutely insane, but
(07:23):
don't knock until you try it, I guess, is all
I can say. You can only understand if you try it.
So you know, there were times after that, not every time,
but there were times where he would he would blow
and then eventually I remember he would use his hat to,
you know, cause it kind of was, you know, should
I keep doing this? So he would use his hat
(07:43):
to kind of he take his half and fan my
neck and it would do the same thing. It didn't
matter if he was blowing on me. God, this sounds
so gay, or flapping his hat. It was just something
to give me that extra boost, you know. And shout
out to Zeb too. By the way, his mom was
in the hospital. She's doing better, she's recovering. I talked
to him a few days ago and she was about
(08:03):
to be transferred from Worcester back to have Roll. So
shout out to Zeb's mom. She's a real real angel.
I love her so much. I love their whole family.
Their family's incredible to day family. They have like thirty
brothers and sisters. It's really funny. But yeah, I shared
that on the air, which obviously is crazy, and all
the other weird things that I do, like I've taped
my mouth while doing cardio because I do take my
(08:24):
mouth shut every night. I've talked about that.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
OMG, I'm glad you had a great vacation, but hearing
you say that you tape your mouth shut at night
is giving me an attack. It's I am so claustrophobic
that I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yeah, it was really hard to get going on it.
You know. I read the science behind it, and I
kind of did some research because I was having issues
with snoring and I knew I was. I was sleeping,
you know, with my mouth wide open. So I decided
to try it, and it was so weird. It took
me a couple of nights where I would go to
bed with it, but I would rip it off. But
I'm telling you, once you get used to it, like
you're not gonna die or anything. If you costrophobic, then
(09:07):
you could maybe could never do it. But I sleep
with them all tape every single night, and some nights
I do rip it off in my sleep. I'll wake
up without it, and that's how I know it if
I got a good night's sleep. Usually if I wake
up with the tape still on in the same spot,
not like on my forehead or on my cheek or
ripped off in the bed somewhere, it usually means I
slept well, like last night I did, so you know,
(09:27):
don't knok it to you try it. I guess all right.
I think that's about it for today. I'm gonna go
have lunch with my wife. She is still not working.
She is interviewing, and she does start a per diem
job soon, yeah, maybe next week. But she's been enjoying
the time off, chilling, you know, getting the kids off
to school. She's at home cleaning right now. And I
(09:48):
just hit her up and said, you want to go
to lunch. Take my beautiful wife, the love of my life,
to lunch. So I'm off to do that. Tomorrow's Friday.
Feels good anyway, We'll talk tomorrow. Bye.
