Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Mojo in the morning show.

Speaker 3 (00:01):
Does Lucy, has she gotten to the point in her
seventh grade life where she doesn't want you to talk
about her on the show? Because seventh grade was where
three of my boys said no.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
I'm sure that that's coming. She is cool right now.

Speaker 5 (00:16):
Like if I'm going to talk about her, I'll say, hey,
is it okay if I share? I actually didn't ask
her about this, but I'm sure she's going to be
totally fine with it.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
So Or we do it at this time of the.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
Morning when she can't hear. No, no, no, because all
her friends listen to the podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Oh, they do? Oh, yeah. Okay.

Speaker 5 (00:28):
It's really interesting to me, by the way, that radio
with the younger generation is huge.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
It's back again. It's huge.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Yeah, like so many of.

Speaker 5 (00:38):
Her friends love listening to the station on the way,
but also the podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
They listen to us? Yeah. I got a text from Mrs.
Bardus over at St.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Mary's Preparatory School, and they were all in her office
or class commenting on listening to the podcast yesterday.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
It was pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
I mean, I'm like very, obviously, you know, I'm very
protective of the kids, but, um, so Lucy got her
ears double pierced a couple of weeks ago. I don't
even know if I talked about this, but she had
been bugging me and bugging me and bugging me about it.
And so finally she went and got it done. I
was supposed to get mine done at the same time,
but I chickened out anyway. So she's playing volleyball this season.
First time she's ever played volleyball. She made the team.

(01:16):
She's super excited.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:18):
And her coach though said, um, all the girls know
jewelry and that includes earrings. Well, if you've ever gotten
your ears pierced, you know that there's a certain period
of time you're not allowed to take them out. You
have to keep them in for like eight or nine
weeks or something like that. So we're still in that
sweet spot. So these earrings that she got, these little
gold studs, have backs on them that aren't just like

(01:42):
pull off. They twist and lock and I don't even
know what the heck they attach to her ears because...
Last night she came home and she was like, mom,
you have to help me take my earrings out. I
have to put these like special sports things in my
ears so that they stay, you know, open.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
The holes stay open. We could not get these things
out of her ears, you guys. She tried. I tried.
Samantha tried. Smith tried. Wes tried.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
I'm like the ninja warrior can't get these earrings out
of her ears.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
And she is starting to get panicky.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
Because she was like, my coach said we are not
allowed to come with earrings. We're not going to be
able to play if we have jewelry on. She wanted
them out of her ears. So what does Wes do?
He goes down to the garage and starts pulling out tools. Look,
this is the scene in my house last night. He's
got a headlamp on. He's got some sort of, what
is that? Some sort of cutter thingy.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
And we cut them out.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Of her ears. That had to be scary for her.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
The thing went flying right at me, too.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
You're like a surgeon.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
Look at that. Isn't that funny? Look at her face, too.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
This damn lamp.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
At first, he brought up like a saw.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
I'm like, you are not using that.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
By the way, it's amazing that she was okay with
her little brother being one of the people that tried.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
To take him out.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
That's desperation.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
So I coached, you know, middle school basketball and I
coached girls basketball. The girls could tape it. They used
to be able to have, like, that white surgical tape
or whatever.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Or we would put a Band-Aid over it. Or, yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
So she did that for a practice, and the ball
hit her right there, and she said it hurt so bad.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
I think because they're still new.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
So, yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Diane, what's up? It's Mojo in the Morning.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
Hi.

Speaker 7 (03:25):
Hi.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
Hey.

Speaker 6 (03:26):
So I was saying that I grew up in church,
and in the choir, we couldn't wear earrings either anytime
we sang. I don't know why. Long story.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
In the choir? That's a physical contact thing, right? No piercings.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
No piercings. So everyone who had their ears pierced or
got their ears pierced and couldn't take their earrings out,
we would put Band-Aids over our ears. While we were singing.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
That probably looked so silly.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Covered up for the Lord.

Speaker 6 (03:53):
Well, you know, the small ones were fine. I mean,
everyone in the choir knew why we did it, though. So,
you know, no one got made fun of. But that's
an option in case. So you don't have to take
them out.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
That is wild, though, when you see certain places. Like
we talked earlier about dress codes and not being properly
dressed and stuff like that. They think that the choir
people are wearing earrings.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
They're going to do something, you know? I don't know.
That's wild. Thank you for the call. Appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (04:30):
No problem.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Did y'all get them out? I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
They came out.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
That sucks for timing purposes. Because will it close up
now if she doesn't have it in?

Speaker 4 (04:40):
They're called like sports.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
We got them at the place where she got her
ears pierced.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Rowan.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
They're like these flat little clear things, and they go
through your ear, but they lay flush with your ear.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Because I do remember that being an issue. There was
a girl on the team that had just gotten it done.
Because the referees will do before the game. Do the
referees do this with soccer where they make you hit
your legs to show that you have your– Your shins.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Your shin guards on and stuff. Do they do that?
Do you see the kids have that.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
At center field?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
I don't know. When I played, they would. And then also, like,
we had to wear certain color headbands. We couldn't wear
bright colors and stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
I feel like the girls get more scrutinized than the
boys do.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
You know? You were a girls basketball coach? I didn't
know that. I coached boys and girls. Oh, the co-eights. Oh, gotcha, gotcha.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
So can I also say this with the way that
the pros look? Do you ever watch like a pro
baseball game and you see that the players are wearing,
you know, big old jewelry and they got it on
and stuff, which is stuff you couldn't do. And then
I don't know if you saw this. Did you see
that there was an umpire this past weekend? that made

(05:56):
the player turn his hat.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yes, yes.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
And it became a big controversy because there really is
no rule about how your hat is to be worn.
His hat was cocked to the side like this. He
was a rookie pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, and
his hat was kind of, yeah, turned like Kev did.
Do you remember Fernando Rodney used to pitch for the Tigers?
Fernando Rodney, he was back during the Verlander days. He

(06:22):
was like one of our relievers. He would have his
hat on sideways all the time.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
And they wouldn't make him switch it?

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Okay, yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Yeah, they never made a big deal about it, but
this umpire was obviously so worked up over this guy,
and it became an issue that the manager came out
to support him, got kicked out of the game, and
then the umpire said, Well, one of the guys on
the other team told me, and the guy on the
other team goes.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
I didn't say that.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah. But I like the next game, the entire, I
don't know, they call it bullpen or what do they
call it?

Speaker 2 (06:50):
No, the whole, both teams. Yeah, everybody had their hats
cocked to the side. Oh, that's funny.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
That was dope. Basically to say F you to the umpire. Solid, dude.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Everybody's going to get earrings now for Lucy. That's what you,
all the parents, earrings.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
She's really, she wants me to get them, so I'm
so excited.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
You should. Do it, Shannon. Come on. What's up, Dahlia?

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yo, look. Hi, I think I know what type of
earrings were in Lucy's ears.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Why do you need those?

Speaker 4 (07:16):
They're gone now.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Well, no, I mean, maybe for future if you guys
ever do it again.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Not to get that. Not to get those.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
So they're threaded flat. Did you go to a piercing studio?

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yes. Or like a tattoo place? No.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
So they're flat backs and they're threaded. So they twist
and twist. They're really hard to get out, especially when
they're still swollen and tender and you don't want to
use too much force. So it gets really hard to
get those out.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Oh, force.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
I was pulling with all my might.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
So it's not a pull, it's a twist.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
No, trust me, we had done that.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Because they're threaded.

Speaker 7 (07:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (07:53):
Did you?

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Maybe next time ask if they can do like just
threadless flatbacks and just ones that push and pull.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Do you work at Claire's? I have a lot of
different piercings. Where's your most interesting location that you pierced?

Speaker 4 (08:11):
All I got are my ears.

Speaker 7 (08:13):
But I've got a bunch of cartilage and so I
went to Wicked Ways and they gave me threaded things
for my helix and it was a pain to get
out when I needed.

Speaker 6 (08:26):
To switch them.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Dahlia, this is so long ago that this happened but
I want to recall it. I lost a bet on
the air when I started mojo in the morning and
I had to get my belly button pierced.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
So that was my, that was my thing. You did it.
Chelsea was so mad at me. Actually. It's funny.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
If you go into the archives of mojo in the morning, uh, stuff,
Chelsea was so mad that she like called up and yelled,
but I had to leave it in for, I think
it was like two weeks. So every night I would
come home and I'd have to clean it and all
this stuff.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
It was right over. And I've got, by the way,
the biggest crater belly button in the world.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Your little freak ass had a little jewel when she
came down.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
It had a chain. Yeah, I knew it did.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
I couldn't get it out because my fat grew around
the thing. It was so bad I ended up getting infected, but.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
It was all over and back.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
They didn't give you a long enough bar. They were
supposed to give you a longer bar for the swelling.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
I made a promise to Chelsea that I would never
do something like that again. Here I am talking about
you know, is Lucy okay with us bringing this up?
My boys were so embarrassed going to school the next
day because all you saw, and this was maybe right
when Facebook came out or whatever, but also it was
weird on websites.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
On our website, it was my boy. It was so bad.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
This is crazy. Bianca, we got to find that. It's Thursday.
We need to throw back Thursday.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Please, we got to go through the archives.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Oh my God, like the really old, old phone. Got
to find that. I talked to Chad yesterday, our old producer,
Chad Mitchell.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah. Maybe Chad's got it in some kind of his archives. Oh,
I'm sure he does.
