Speaker 1 (00:00):
Uh, all right, it is Mojo in the morning show.
It's good to have you guys here with us today.
Mike has something going on that I think we got
to bring to our error and give the listeners that
know Mike probably the best. I still say that this
radio show, the listeners and SNX listeners, especially Mike, especially

(00:21):
the history that you've had on SNX, know you better
than those country listeners that are there.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
First off, they were some of the most welcoming people
in the entire world. Shout out to the B ninety
three listeners. But I have only been there two years,
so they are still getting to know me a little.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yeah. Well, let me and let me say this to you.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Everybody in Grand Rapids knows Mike, but also everybody in
Detroit and Toledo do too, because they love you so much.
Mike shares a lot about his family, and you know,
he's talked over the years about Cecily, and this is
going to make every listener feel really old. But Cecily
is now thirty years.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Old, really good, really on the right path.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Actually, I saw last week that Cecily went out on
a B ninety three little remote that you had, and
she you finally let her go out and do what
she wanted to do. She wanted to go with you
on one of your your side hustle gigs.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
So we were at the Corner Street cafe and she
does like, she's got this fascination with cafes and she
wants to be a cafe owner someday. But outside of that,
she's begged me for years to come to these to
these events, and I kind of pushed it off and
push it off just because I mean, you guys with kids, no, Like,
you try to bring a kid to an event and
most of the time you're just gonna be going, hey,

(01:32):
stop playing with that, don't jump on that, and you
just sit so and then they end up on a
phone and.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
You're like, yeah, why did you go the whole time? Yes? Yeah,
So I pushed it off.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
And then this year she's doing some summer camps, but
it's also kind of a really important summer for her.
I feel like, so I said yes to this one.
Yeah is next year officially middle school? Yeah yeah, next
year is middle school. She'll hit she just turned twelve,
so she will be a teenager in uh during middle school,
and we've I'm still trying to adjust.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
She's still six, like six years old in my head, right, exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Well, it's it's so cool to see the progression of
Cecily because she really has been like a little lady
for a long time, because she's always been so grown
up with her especially vocabulary. She talks sometimes and you're
like laughing, Oh, it's kind of I mean literally, Josiah
is very similar to that. And we've known you, keV

(02:29):
for only just what a few years now that you've
been on the show. But both kids are so unbelievable
with the way that they you know, take care of
or I guess may they're only kids, right or not
only kids are older kids. Yeah, so they're first kids
because Lucy's like that too. Lucy's a little lady too. So, Mike,
you feel like you are losing your daughter. You wrote

(02:50):
in our little diaries that we do to each other. Yeah,
why do you feel that way? Because she's growing up
right now.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Well, this it feels like I remember being twelve and
thirteen a little bit, and I remember that I was
just I became super distant with my parents, like you know,
puberty hits and all this other stuff hits and and
I just wasn't like, I mean, there was a couple
of years and this probably happens with all kids where
you just kind of distance yourself from your parents and
you know, fights start happening. And I'm not blind to

(03:19):
the fact that you know, she's gonna be you know,
dating here soon or at least starting to. In fact,
I met a boy who she wanted me to meet
all year. Yeah, yeah, and it's not there. Yeah, yeah,
it was tough.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
No tell us about it. Yeah, this kid, all.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Right, So I go, it's a It was at like
one of those field days, and she's been talking about
this kid all year and she knows that she can't.
We're not in the dating like she still thinks kissing
as gross, so we're not there yet.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Good, But she's like, this boy's really nice.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
And we're not boyfriend and girlfriend yet, but we have
this really close, you know, relationship, and she's kind of
talking to me about it. She's like, I want you
to meet them. So I go to this field day
thing and I'm just like, let's go chest, yeah, test
out a little bit. You know, I'm only five six
what I'm saying, and like I'm six six. Mike's actually
eye to eye to the kid.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
I was actually scared of him by the end of
the be like I'm dead.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
But so I go shake this kid's hand, like I
go introduce myself, and I sit down and nobody's introduced
me to this kid yet. And they're talking and one
of her friends slips in and goes, blah blah blah,
your boyfriend, Cecily, and I go and she goes, no, no,
we're not boyfriends.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
So my boyfriend blah blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
And then that's when they introduce me, and she says,
this is so and so nice to meet you. And
the kid looks me right in the eyes, and I go, okay,
I like that. And then this is the one thing
I will say, like he seems like a nice kid.
They're definitely not there yet. They're still in like kissing
as gross, like it's not even you know, but he
looks at or he's sitting with his like buddies, and
he like gives her this huge compliment about something she's

(04:51):
very passionate about, like these books she's interested in, and
she's he's like, you know what, Cecily, you're the expert
on this.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Why don't you tell all? And he like gives her
this big compliment.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
I'm like, okay, there, he's building her up.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Man, that's this kid's smart.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
His dad must be a smart guy. You must have
had good lessons there. That's amazing.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
And he's like he's telling me about how he's a
Lions fan. I'm like, okay, I see what he follows you.
He knows what's going on. He took this kid.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
This kid, by the way, he's doing the greatest job
of trying to suck up and be a brown nose
to you, trying to make make sure dad likes him.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
Did you accessly any questions about him after the interaction? I, well,
she tried to because she doesn't have a phone just yet.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
She's got one of those watches.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
So she tried to send him a letter and it
was like it said like love at the end, and
so I said, oh, we're gonna she doesn't understand again
what love? Yeah, she doesn't understand any stuff. So I
just asked him. I asked her about him and where
he's from. He just moved here and you know, they
their new kid in class.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Did you make her take the love out of the letter?
H How did you explain that to her?

Speaker 2 (06:02):
I said, love is a very important statement that you
say for like family and friends. Right now, I think
we need to learn about what it means to love
somebody else, but we should love ourselves first.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Oh that's really good.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
I think, Yeah, does that mean what it? We know
it as in a letter? Though? Is love the same
thing at the end of the letter as like sincerely,
how did you write?

Speaker 5 (06:27):
Does she say like love comma Cecily or was it
more than that?

Speaker 3 (06:30):
It was just that. I think she just wrote it
like she would write a letter to.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Yeah, can I'm honest. We went into this with Mike
is not, you know, in a good place. With how
Cecily is growing up so fast, Mojo is also not
in a good place. I don't know if I like
this idea of Cecily having this you know, you know
kid telling her, you know that that their boyfriend and

(06:57):
girlfriend and she's going to middles and I know how
kids in middle school are. They're kind of crazy, you know,
they get crazy.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
That's where my thought is, is like, I know that's coming,
We're not there yet. I don't think it's I don't
you know, I think they she wants to believe she
sees all these movies and she wants to like feel
whatever that is. But I truly don't think we're there yet,
and I'd probably be more worked up if I thought
they were there. So next year, I'm probably gonna be
more worked up about this.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Quick question for you, Mike, who, out of the two
of you, because she's got such a great mom and
such a great dad, out of the two of you,
who do you think she would go to first to
talk about, like boyfriends and things like that.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Unfortunately, it's not gonna be me. I don't think I
want it to be, like I would like to have
that relationship. And that's what I'm nervous about is I
don't want to become distant with her over these next
few years and then I know we're not gonna We're
gonna like but adds a little bit more than we
normally did, and we're gonna there's gonna be some separation
or distance between us a little. But I want to
try to, I don't know, finalize like a really good

(07:58):
relationship with her this summer.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Does she do this with Ali because the kids, my
boys do this with their mom. I think the kids
are always closer to their mom, it seems like, but
do they does she come to Ali and have conversations
that you don't know about and then you have to
be told about a little bit later, like where Ali says, well,
Cecily came to me and you know.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Uh, yeah, we've had a we've had some talks about that.
We call it the triangle of trust now. But it
didn't it didn't happen like originally. There were other things
that that she wouldn't come to me about, and I
don't I don't want that, Like I realized there's gonna
be probably certain like girl things.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Yeah, yeah, but like I don't.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
I used to be like she would, like she would
get excited to go to the store with Dad, Like
that's how it used to be.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
You're going to the store. I want to go with you.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
You're going to do this, And it's just it's kind
of becoming distant and like her hobbies are more into
what what my wife is into sure, and I just feel.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Like I'm I don't know, I'm kind of struggling. Can
I tell you though?

Speaker 1 (08:53):
And I don't know if there are any listeners that
are feeling the same way I am. To hear the
the amount that you are involved in her life and
how much you know, you have conversations with her and
are very good with listening to her side of it,
but also you know, putting your foot down on certain
things like the love thing. I gotta be honest, there's

(09:13):
not a lot of dads that are as good as
you at doing that. I think there are sometimes dads
that kind of take the back seat to things and
let mom do everything, or there's some dads that aren't
even in the picture, you know, And I look at you,
like in your involvement. I'm really impressed, man. I mean,
that's that's awesome.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
I don't know what I have no idea what I'm doing.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
If I'm being one hundred percent honest with you, I'm
just trying to give what I didn't necessarily get. I
didn't get asked a lot of questions. I didn't get
the I don't get the sex talk. I didn't get
any of that stuff.

Speaker 6 (09:41):
You and Ali and you guys do such a good
job of this, like just providing a space for her
to like bring all of this to you, whether she
wants to vent it or she needs advice or help
or whatever is like, that's so key, that's so key.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
I also, I gotta tell you, I love that, uh
that you guys give her the ability to make decisions,
to make her decision on things because she's always been,
like I said, more you know, grown up with the
way that she's acted over the years.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
So but you still let her be the little girl
that she is.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
You know.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
I keep trying to like I'm trying to hold on.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
I don't know if you guys did this with your
kids or whatever, but I'm trying to hold on to
the Like she's not begging to grow up right now
or like pushing to grow up, but it's it's there,
like I can feel it's coming, and I just keep
telling her, like, hold on to the to the I
don't know, the little kid things like like Blue Bluie
will come on and she's like, I can't watch that's
a that's a baby show.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
And I'm like, oh, come on, you can sit and
watch it with us, so instead you watch it. Yeah,
I watch come on, I'm watching Blue by myself. I
gotta have somebody here that's real.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Hey, what about Shannon has a little bit of advice
because Shannon's daughter Lucy is one year older than Cecily, right,
so the same.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Age really, but.

Speaker 5 (11:03):
Yeah, year ahead in school.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Well, Lucy just finished her first year of middle school. Yeah,
I bet you guys could probably for.

Speaker 6 (11:09):
Sure, I'll be super honest with you. I had therapy
yesterday and I talked to my therapist about Lucy almost
the entire time, because middle school is totally different, and
everybody kind of warned me that they do grow up
a lot. That sixth grade year, for loose, like, there
was a lot of growing up, and I definitely feel,

(11:29):
especially over the last couple of months, more of that distance.
And it is really important that you let them have
that space because that's very age appropriate, it's very normal.

Speaker 5 (11:43):
Even though like I want to know everything that's.

Speaker 6 (11:45):
Going on in her head in her heart and what
she's texting and what she's talking about and all the time.
But I think like, as long as you are just
there and they know they can come to you with
anything good, bad, just to like get it out well
is so important. But I'm with you, Mike. I I
always tell her, I'm like, I wish you were four,

(12:06):
oh again, because this is terrifle.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Listen, I wish I was fo Michelle. There Hey, Michelle,
what's going on.

Speaker 8 (12:19):
I just want to tell Mike that I think she
is like a great dad, and I think it's so
important for girls to have their dad. Like my kids
are all grown and but my husband don't really have
anything to do with my kids at all, and like
he's missing out. I'm great kids, and like I always
wanted my daughter to be able to have a great relationship,

(12:39):
you know, if she has that with my current husband now,
but you know, it's so important, especially at her age.
Now they'll be able to look that communication open because
you know he's about to go through you know, puberty,
and you know he's not going to like you for
a little bit. And it's just so awesome that you
later and down now for her.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
The relationship that a girl has with her dad is
so important because one day could be the relationship that
they have with whoever they choose in their life.

Speaker 8 (13:06):
You know, absolutely, So keep it up, Mike and birthday.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Thank you, Michelle. A quick question for you, how old
are your daughters?

Speaker 8 (13:16):
Well, my daughter, so they want so and then I
have two boys.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Okay, so would they like to watch Blue with Mike? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (13:26):
I have a four year old grand.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Okay, there you go, Mike, Mike, you got a Bluie
fan there. So yes, first I forgot to say happy birthday.
By the way, thank you, buddy. I appreciate it. Thank you.
Do you feel like you guys tried to find hobbies?
I feel like.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
And I feel like a pastor has said this before
and it really resonated in my spirit. And it was
just talking about The conversation was more so in terms
of like the relationship with a spouse, but I think
it can be applied in relationships in general and specifically
with our kids, and as it directly impacts men, and
as men, we are able to do and sometimes in

(14:05):
relationships we're good with doing things. I can do this,
and in many aspects, instead of doing, we need to be.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
And there's a difference.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
And I think when I think about the speed of which,
like Josiah's thirteen now he's about to go to the
eighth grade. And there have been times where I've done,
I've been the do parent, and when you do, you
truly realize how fast that time flies. And I think
what I'm hearing from you, and you do a great
job at it is being and not necessarily telling. Cecily

(14:37):
to be great, but providing an environment that she can
feel comfortable in becoming great.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Yeah, and I think so. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Also I want to just I want to like connect
with her on something, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
I feel like you got something something together. Yeah, like
for me, I'm be honest.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
So when this Drake album came out and the kids
are listening to it a lot, I'm listening to it
a lot, probably more than them. This album has a
lot for Josiah and I to have a bridge between
ourselves because he was going to school and be like man,
kids saying Drake just talking and I'm like, no, he
is talking, but like do you hear what he's saying
and like connected Like one of the things I was like,

(15:12):
whatever Josiah is into, like like let me figure out
what he's into and meet him where he is and
then build a relationship that way and you know, go
from there.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
My son Luke is twenty one and he's really into
Draft Kings and so we kind of like Papa's in it.
Happy y'all.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Yeah, Oh, Nicole, real quick, Nicole wants to say something
about this conversation.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
What do you want to say, Nicole? A, Hi, I
just wanted.

Speaker 8 (15:42):
To say how much I love how you guys talk
about your children, because I came from a broken house
and was given up to foster care at thirteen from
my mother. So I just love how you guys are
talking about your children. And Shannon's talked about Lucy, and
you guys are just so involved with your children.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
I just it's just a.

Speaker 8 (15:59):
Little and I'm just really enjoying hearing the subject.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
That's awesome, Nicole. Yeah, we love you, Nicole. Appreciate you calling.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 7 (16:07):
Mojo, Hey hear more from my Well, I want to
say something else real quick, real quick before be ninety three.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
Chuse for real bro, because uh, you know, I have
not made it a secret mind strained relationship with my
dad and we're trying to figure it out. And I
don't know fully your history with your parents, but I
don't know if it was the greatest. And I feel
like sometimes when we're children and we grow up in
like not the best environments, we have a pressure on
us to make sure that our children don't grow up
in the same environment, and sometimes we make it harder

(16:37):
on them. And that's something that I'm trying to realize too.
Is like I don't need to, like, I don't need
to because I think I'm doing the best, you know,
I want to make.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Sure they just like it's an experience what I experienced.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
I got to do this, I do that, And it's
like his life is completely different than mine, and too
much pressure sometimes in that regard can do us a
detriment as opposed again, just like being so.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
By the way, he's had shots of vote show this morning.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
He's about celebration before I go.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Can I mentioned some B ninety three stuff? Yes, absolutely,
all right, so today side note, I thought about taking
her to the concerts, and I got I'm gonna mention
some concerts here. So, uh, the we have If you're
listening to B ninety three, we got jelly Roll like
v I P tour stuff for the Aquastra Amphitheater, So
mid days with Dusty Dave Tapter in the afternoon suit.
If you're listening and you're a big jelly Roll fan,
you're going to the Aquisher show, you're gonna want to

(17:30):
check that out. And then tomorrow on the B ninety
three Morning show with Ali and myself, you can win
Cane Brown tickets.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Oh that's good. Uh.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Plus tomorrow Mike will be on with us and uh.
It will be interesting to see who breaks the tie,
or will Anna catch up to these guys. Anna's got
three wins, or actually, Lydia's got two wins. Anna's got
three wins. Shannon, Kevin, and Mike are all tied at five.

Speaker 7 (17:55):
Wins of pace and throw. I'm surprised you'll say on
my name you didn't say, Okay, yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Well there you go. You can't make that mistake ever again.
All right, Mike, love you, buddy. I'll talk to you soon.
I might see it
