Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, Welcome back, This is Eves Sports Radio. Of course,
I do believe it's January the twenty first, twenty twenty four.
It is Tuesday, not Monday. It is Tuesday, and welcome
back to the show. Phone number is five zero two
five seven one seventy nine hundred. That's five zero two
(00:23):
five seven one seventy nine hundred Sports Talk seven ninety KRD.
Of course, we got Shannon behind the glass, the dirtiest
wrestler in Kentucky. We've got my younger son on the
other line, Anthony Eves. Anthony, welcome back. How are you.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
You don't throw me under the bus like you do, Shannon.
I don't know if i'd be running your show anymore.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Well, see, Shannon's not scared, Anthony, but when I slip
up behind him like anaconda, he might have had to
give me a little bit more respect. He doesn't play fair,
but he don't know. I'm sixty five and I'm gonna
cheat the win. I don't care what I gotta do
in calling yourself an anaconda. Exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Boy phrasing go too well with a cheater and U
of L alumni. So we're gonna because we didn't hear that.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
More like a garter snake. Watch yourself, Shannon. See now
you're starting to sound like my friends, Martin Dunbar and
those people. I got a Shelby Kobra mustang. It's not
a gardener steak. It bites with poison. Sure, that's all
I'm telling you, Shannon, true poison mm hmm for guys
like you. Guys like you, my bulleties, guys, let me
(01:36):
tell you Jimmy Beverly, he's always messing with me. Hey,
Jimmy Beverly, I'm not scared of you either, Jimmy, just
so you'll know it. But anyway, guys, anyway, since you
all don't get me off on a tangent, we got
a lot to get to. First things first, and Shannon,
let me know when you've got it loaded. But I
got a lot, you got it? Okay? Good? Hey, guys. Look,
(01:57):
we had Martin Luther King Day yesterday, inauguration yesterday. I
want everybody to listen to just a very quick speech
from Martin Luther King. It's pertinent for everyone. That's why
I'm making you all listen to it, and I think
you'll enjoy it. Shannon, play it for uce.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Please don't allow anybody and to make you feel that
you are nobody. Always feel that you count, always feel
that you have worth, and always feel all that your
life has ultimate.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Significant Thanks Shannon. That's all. And that's for everybody, guys,
that is for everybody. Now here's what we got in.
First and foremost, everyone knows that there was a contest
Radio E Sports Radio loves contest and we had as
a contest and I do have a winner. And it
(02:57):
was really really really close with four people, well yesterday
really close. Two that only did three games and two
that did all the games. We know if the people
that did all the games that got in the Briars
Bush with me, it tied with the people that did not,
then the Briar Bush would win. Because I want people
to pick against me. But that wasn't that didn't have
(03:20):
to come down to tuition. I had poor Mary, Mary,
you were right there, young lady Mary did a great
job of selecting her teams. She had Ohio State defeating Texas,
which was a win. She had Notre Dame defeating Penn State,
which was a win. But Mary had picked Notre Dame
(03:42):
thirty five, Ohio State twenty Anthony, which was a loss
which knocked Mary out of contention. So, Mary, great job
this year. You were really close quite a bit, but
still no cigar. I'm sorry, but great job. And the
females did a tremendous job of the lady callers. Ladies.
I don't know, they took home eight hundred dollars. I
(04:05):
just don't know why you all in this and Kroger's
especially listen to your show. I'm like, why don't you
try to call the women win? I don't get it,
but women are intimidated by calling in Shannon. Maybe it's
you because they know you're the dirtiest wrestlers. They're intimidate.
Shannon will not intimidate. She's a nice gown on the phone.
He's just not very good when you're wrestling against him,
(04:26):
that's all. But Mary, you did a great job. But
no Scar, no cigar. My man Ac got me, Ac
did guys Ac? This time? Anthony had oil State forty five.
Notre Dame twenty four got me. Ac was three, and oh,
(04:49):
I hate to tell Ac you were three in Oac.
You were close. He had Texas twenty eight, oil State
thirty nine. In the first game, he had Penn State
eighteen Notre Dame twenty eight. In the two semifinals, both winners.
He had Ohio State defeating Notre Dame forty five twenty
(05:14):
four three and oh, and you thought you were close, Ac.
I know, cigar, AC, no cigar, But great job, Ac,
you were three and oh. He did not get in
the Briars Bush. His game I gave him would have
been the Eagles Packers. He said no to it. He
turned it down, So great job, but no cigar, no cigar.
(05:35):
Let me go to my third contestant, who was really close.
These two gentlemen did take four games. Both of them
were four and oh. Steve took Texas twenty four, Ohio
State twenty seven, Ohio State one. Steve had Notre Dame
twenty four to twenty one on Penn State one. Steve
(05:58):
had Ohio State twenty Notre Dame twenty four. Won three
wins for Steve. Steve's pro game which he had to
beat me and both of them had to beat me.
Steve took the Texans over the Chargers twenty seven to
twenty four. I took a twenty seven twenty five. I
was one game further away from the total of forty four.
(06:21):
So Steve beat me because I took the over. He
had the under. Well, he didn't have the under. I
made him have the under with my selection. So Steve
beat me. He was four and o. But the problem
is Steve didn't beat my winner. My winner was four
and o. My winner had Texas forty two. He had
Ohio State forty two, Texas twenty one. He had Anthony
(06:44):
Notre Dame twenty eight twenty four over Penn State. He
had Ohio State thirty eight twenty one over Notre Dame.
Three wins. His pro game was the Steelers and the Ravens.
Thank god, ay I didn't say it on the head
and get a bonus. I'm so glad this wasn't Jeopardy
or Will of Fortune. I'm so glad. Shit, I've been
(07:06):
out more money. I'm so glad. But his head to
head against me, like, Steve beat me, but he was
eleven away from the total. Adam hit it on the
head twenty eight to fourteen. I had twenty seven to fourteen.
Adam beat me. Adam was the winner. Adam hit his
head to head score with me on the head. So Adam,
(07:29):
you won. That's two hundred plus dollars that I got
to send. So Adam called me. We'll talk about it.
You've got to send you have to get a shinn
in your address. I'm gonna send you to check with
a little bomb in at Adam, because yes, you did
call me last week saying, finally got your brother. I
know you got me, Adam. You did fair and square.
So Eavestwarts Radio will be paying out. Boy. I was
(07:50):
wanting to beat Adam and Steve, but they had beaten
me early. I knew that going in. All we were
waiting for was last night's game. But again they were
both four and oh, which noted Mary out. It knocked.
Mary was two and one, Ac was three and oh.
Steve was four and oh. But Steve was only eleven
twelve points from the actual total. Adam hit the total
on the head. Adam was four and oh. Adam wins
(08:12):
the contest. He beats me. So Anthony, that was the deal.
So I'm paying again, Anthony. So I think probably this
year Anthony eves Sports Radios sponsors and I got the best.
I do have the best. I think I probably paid
out roughly about eleven hundred dollars and it's that bad.
(08:34):
I mean, and not very many shows that do that, Anthony,
that have the whereabouts, that can pay their bills, pay
their listeners, pay you, George and Stell, make enough to
go out to lunch with Bubba and the guys. Anthony,
you missed you were at work. But Bubba and I
Martin Dunbar Scott Center, we all went out to the
(08:54):
Oriels yesterday, had a good time reminisced. Of course, Bubba
brought me all the Trinity the dark Side posters that
Scott sent to does y'all don't know what Scott does
those things. You have to contact him. He used to
have a true store, but you have to contact him.
He's got great things. He puts things on poster boards,
pictures you may be interested in. But we had a
(09:17):
really good time yesterday, just reminisced. Here's the problem. Anthony.
Scott sent to starting some bourbon company with some people
Jack Gibbons, I don't know who he is, a few
other Kentucky guys, but they're starting a bourbon company. So
I asked him, I said, everybody is starting this bourbon.
Are y all gonna make any money on this? He says,
oh yes, Jerry we're with this company. Don't even ask
(09:38):
me the name Anthony. I have no idea. Everyone knows
I'm a non drinker. He and Martin were looking at
pictures Anthony and talking about this bourbon. I said, are
you all drunk off of the pictures? I mean they
were so excited about Peppy van Winkle and who had
a bottle and what they had and I have eight
hundred bottles of bourbon. And it was Anthony. It was crazy.
(09:59):
Bub and I were looking get a round. I'm like,
are y'all ever gonna talk to us? They were gone
talking about we.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Know you're not a big or not. You're not a
drinker guy. But Pappy Van Winkle when it comes to
you know, people who like alcohol or even kind of
shores of it is one of the top of the
line bottles. So, for example, during Christmas time, even Froger
Kroeger does it, doesn't give away a Pappy van Winkle.
Now they do different type of select bottles that they
(10:26):
give away and they always do specials on them, and
you sign up and you just win. Michael raffles, Okay, right,
the sign up was free to put in perspective, a
retail bottle of Pappy van winkl can go anywhere from
you know, a couple hundred bucks all the way up
to a couple of grands. But the resale value on
him is super big up north. The biggest, one of
the biggest states for hist resale value is in New
(10:48):
York because New York doesn't get Pappy van Winkle ever,
they don't sell it in that state. There is a
guy when it's funny. When I used to work at
the gas station, we had two bottles of Pappy van
Wicol that came into our store, and the guy I
knew about he knew about it before I did, which
was kind of weird. He asked me if we had
it in stock. I said no, I said, but it
does come on the next ship and in like a
month and a half. And he offered to buy it
(11:10):
before we even got it. He told me that the
resale value in New York. Those bottles can you know,
sell for seven hundred dollars in Kentucky and go you
could take it up to New York and sell from
ten to twelve.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Grand per bottle. That's just crazy, and it's just crazy.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
It's a big there's a there's a big market for it.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
I see now, I've heard, Anthony that the bourbon market
is starting to slow down. Brown Forman just laid off
a lot of people. They're moving, they're barrowing piece. I
worked at Bluegrass Coopridge when I was at the University
of the first job I ever had. I unloaded eighteen
wheelers with the barrels. But it was just amazing. Yes,
(11:49):
all there must be true bourbon connoisseurs, so to each
their own. All I know is it's expensive and it burns.
So anyway, Anthony is seven seventeen. We've got Adam on
the line, our winner. Adam finally got me. Adam, you
stay right there, Shannon, take us the breaks so we
can stay close to task. This is e Sports Radio.
(12:11):
We'll be back with the winner of Esports Radio's contest
in a minute. Welcome back to EAVE Sports Radio. January
twenty first, twenty twenty five. I wrote twenty four. I'm
telling you it's gonna take me three months to get that.
I hope I didn't say twenty four at the beginning
of the show. It is twenty twenty five, so let's
(12:33):
bring on our one and only, the contest winner, Adam. Welcome,
to Esports radio. Are you How are you doing, sir?
Speaker 4 (12:40):
How you doing?
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Anthony?
Speaker 6 (12:42):
How you doing?
Speaker 5 (12:42):
Shannon?
Speaker 2 (12:44):
I'm not doing great.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
I'm not good. You're better than I am.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Well, well, no, hey wait a minute. Now, I beat
you twice, but you only like seld Up on one time,
so I mean it's all good.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Hold up, hold up? What do you mean?
Speaker 5 (13:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
You like christ but you changed you change the rules
on me. But that's okay because I guess the house.
She changed the rules.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Oh I did? I changed the rules on you? Well,
you got this one, but I'm not going with that one.
We've got an inquiry. You're gonna give me the week end,
the date, I can tell you what happened. Got all
the stor I do too. I've got all the scores
from every week. So just like you know, A C
does too, I tell you all AC writes down, writes
down everyone scores. He does. He writes them all down.
(13:35):
A C is a piece of work. But you are
the winner. Excellent job four and o four and oh
did you think you were gonna be? Four? And oh
did you have any idea you four?
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Yeah, I mean and I'm not bragging or none. I
mean I do watch them and I pay attention and
the only and about I hit all my legs on
this past weekend and to.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Save my soul.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Lamar so the one that messed my layup.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
I was like, you gotta be kidding me, Oh my god,
but I was like, man, it's all right, it's okay.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
I still want with you guys.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
So you know I'm gonna talk about that I'm really
gonna do because everyone knows I'm a Lamar fan. I am.
There's nobody bigger. And I'm gonna tell what has to
happen for him to get over the hump. He has
to do things, and he's gonna have to be coached,
and I'm gonna explain it to people after I talk
with you. Anthony's gonna speak on it, but I'm really
gonna go into detail what's got to happen. And I
(14:43):
just don't know if Hardball is going to be the guy.
And I'm gonna tell people things that you all don't
know because you really don't know sports like I do.
And I'm gonna explain the situation that when I explain
it to you, you're gonna go, oh, yes, And he
didn't do it to let you know, there's a coaching
facet that has to be done that Lamar is gonna
(15:05):
have to accept and somebody's gonna have to teach him.
It's twofold, half a hardball, yeah, half on Lamar, And
I'm gonna explain it to you, I really am. But no,
great job, go ahead, go ahead, I'm go ahead.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
Well, you know, with that said, don't get greedy when
you're in the playoffs like that, and you know you
you would have been able to just kick a field
go there if you would have just chose a little
different situation. But above and beyond that, when he when
he came into the league, you know, when they drafted him, yes,
(15:42):
he was basically the only I mean, they had a
running back, but he was basically the only player that
they had drafted that was it was worth worth any count. So,
I mean he's kind of grown with with the franchise.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Every year. Yes, they built around him. He has now
developed he can throw the ball. Those days are over.
I'm not listening to any of it. He's one of
five quarterbacks that have done ever in the NFL what
he did with his arm this year. But there's still
a growing process that I'm going to explain to people
that has to happen. People have been arguing with me.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
Yea, I've been agree with it.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
I've been fighting them and I've been fighting them, but
I had to agree. And I'm going to explain to
people what has to happen for Lamar to take the
next step. If it happens, it could be ugly for
the NFL, but that's a bif because it's twofold. He's
got to want to learn and accept it like a player.
I'm going to tell you all about that. You will know,
and he's going to have to have a coach that
(16:38):
can make him accepted, which I will explain. But Adam,
you want congratulations. You hit it on the head. Two
people for it, but you were dead on the score.
You beat me. I took the under. I was only
one point off. I mean, but you're twenty eight to fourteen.
I had no chance. I mean I saw the scrossing well,
I couldn't beat him before one. It did on the head.
(17:03):
So uh you've.
Speaker 6 (17:04):
Left that, uh huh yeah, and I did start following.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
I downloaded Twitter.
Speaker 6 (17:10):
Sorry, way you can at least know who you're talking to. Okay, good,
you know what I mean, because I didn't want to
be a stranger on the radio, you know, and you'll
be like, oh, okay's Adam all right, so at least
you know me.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Okay, then I will go in because you know I'm
not a huge I just reply and you know I'm not.
But I will find I will make sure that I
find out who you are, no question at But I
appreciate all the things you do for the show. And
we've got a lot to talk about. And I'm gonna
talk about Lamar going into this next break, since we're
already at seven twenty six, I'm gonna let Anthony give
us some local scores and what's going on in college basketball.
(17:44):
We're gonna go to break, and then I'm gonna get
into Lamar Jackson. And you know, I'm gonna be critical
of Lamar. I mean, I love it, but I'm gonna
give you all an example and everybody's gonna go, Yes,
that's gotta happen after the break. Appreciate you and congratulations.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
Appreciate you guys. Hey, thank you guys.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
Blast day, sir, you too.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Anthony. Give me my local scores, my l I T scores.
What's gonna happen? With Kentucky and Louisville upcoming this week
before we go to Break. Yeah, of course.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
So obviously we had a big little imitational tournament go
on out of Valley High School, one of my favorite
tournaments I played in. We had a couple of heartbreakers,
I'll say for my team, but I'm not gonna go
into detail about that because it is what it is.
It is. I've been I've been in too many game
winning losses, so I know how it feels.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Yes, Oh, I have to, Anthony, trust me. From going
from going to the final four again, are the final
eight at a guy he won from sixty feet? I've
been a part of them. Also, anybody that's been in sports,
Anthony has had a buzzer beat or just make you
go golly, how can that happen?
Speaker 2 (18:49):
But some of the games we had going on, obviously
in our earlier rounds, we did have Scene X to
defeat Trinity sixty eight to forty four. I know Trinity
is going through a bit of a road coach to
ride this year. It's just it's not if that Trinity
were accustomed to, but it is normal for a lot
of high school teams. They go through ups and downs.
When you get seniors and juniors starting to graduate, and
(19:09):
you get your young classes from middle school, ninth grade,
tenth grade kind of moving into that leadership role. There
is a learning curve.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
That has to be done and new coaches and new
coach second year coach bo stepping down. Yes, there's a
lot of things going on at Trinity still the dark side,
but you're correct, of.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Course, and it takes a minute to obviously get over
that learning curve obviously going on into the next round.
See next to beater ballad sixty one to fifty nine
on a buzzer beating game winner by the superstar junior
that they have Jakai Jackson on the team.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yes, nice kid, though Anthony. Yes, I went to I
was at the game that they had won. Right before
I went to the Ballard Mail game. My brother and
wife went to the Ballard Sant Xavier game, which they lost.
At the buzzer Ballard led most of the game, but
after Sant Xavier played, we walked in right at the
end of their game. He was walking out walking in.
(20:01):
He stops, man, mister eas because I spoke at Satan
take it, I'll say, hey. Then I found out he's
a major studies. He was rolling, but he is a
super nice kid, really is.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
I saw him play when they played in the when
they played in the KOB Championship game against they play against
the team from Arkansas. He had a phenomenal game as well.
I'm not gonna lie. He is one of the few
players that I've seen the last couple of years in
high school sports that uses the low post in mid
grange game effectively. Yes, and I will I will say that,
and I will commend him because he was hitting turnaround fadeaways,
one leg step.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
And he's a big body.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Where's that most people don't use? And I used to say,
even when I was that dollar, we shot a lot
of midrange pulled step backs, but we didn't use it
the same way that he does his He used his
size and physical ability to his advantage in high school sports,
which is huge. Now he might go even to the
Division one level, Division two, whatever the case may be.
He may not be at four, but for a three.
(20:57):
If he gets to grow another entry two to beat
six seven three guards second week.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Mm hmmm, I would recruit him day and t Anthony.
I'd have loved him at North Carolina, and I loved him,
beat him up.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
I think right right now where he's standing current today,
everyone don't call me and be like, oh this is
what you said last year. No, today, he is a
great mid major Division one back player. He's a little
bit undersized, but he's got the physicality and he's got
a higher i Q for basketball than the kids I've
seen at the high school level. Now, I think if
he grows another two three inches, I would put him
in a higher a CC room. I think he could
(21:32):
get there. I've seen it.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
He could get to this a C C right now,
and he could get he could get to Louisville.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
And the thing is, I don't want to sit here
and knock Louisville. I think he's a great player. I
don't even know if we'll get recruited by Louisville. Lousell
does not really like to recruit inside the state.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
They don't.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
They will only reach the.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Coach Kelsey is going to. He's told me, you villas
that started with that started within and he just so
everybody on Coach Crumb loved the area. Rick Bettino did not.
He went out and got he did not take Rajon
Rondo and took Telfair. He did not That was a
Rick Patino thing, but that's not a Kelsey thing.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
I just don't get it because every other team in
their state recruise in state except for louis really like
Kentucky tries to do it, but they kind of go
to the little county schools. Then will get Rajon Rondo
from the Louisville But in reality, they don't go super
crazy with Kentucky recruise either. John Caliperry didn't really recruit
like that in the state of Kentucky. If you can't
name one noble player that came out of Kentucky to
play the UK under Caliperry, maybe one.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Well, here's the only problem Anney's and Antony. There hadn't
been any high major players. That's a problem. It used
to be Anthony the city of Louisville when I played.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Five I'm not gonna.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
NBA players, Anthony, not five players when I played, So
listen to me. Now five NBA players with twenty three
teams Anthony, twelve players on a team. You reed, Shepherd
is going prior to the state of Kentucky lived here,
played here, went to Kentucky, went pro name me some more.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
I can go random. We we have a lot of
sleeper names. So you can't sit here and telling me
that Jake stra Scrubb couldn't have played at Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
I know, I like he was a good player. Yeah,
but I mean yes, not that I'm not shaying the
Guyentucky or U of L, David Johnson, Raymond's fault.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
That's but that's it. I told you they only get one.
There will be one out of the city each year,
and that's a max. That's like, that's like taking it
far for U of L. Raymond s Paul and David
and Johnson were the only two exceptions. We had other
good players and I hate to say it, that had
great careers outside of that and never got recruited. We
didn't even get recruited inside the state. Matter of fact,
not even U of L Kentucky, not even in the
state Western Kentucky. There's no phone calls, Murray state, no
(23:53):
phone calls. More head, no phone calls.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Sounds like you're a little salty that out of state
team's recruited you're not in state. Sounds like you're a
little salty.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
I'm glad, I'm glad. I wanted to say, because didn't
want to go to school Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
I'm you're a little salty, I said, But Anthony, for
that level, when you're saying Kentucky and Louisville, there should
be NBA level players there used to be, Anthony, Denny
Crumb wasn't just recruiting the city. He was recruiting Wesley
Cox NBA player, Rick Wilson, NBA player. He understood what
(24:29):
I'm saying that Jerry's NBA player, Darrel Rifforths NBA player,
Bobby Turner, NBA player. They Louis and Kentucky are trying
to win it, Antony, they're not trying to make friends.
I agree with what you're saying, But you're right about
Western Eastern. You're right they didn't. It surprising me they didn't.
But Louis on Kentucky that is Rajon Rondo was a
(24:49):
pro what fifteen sixteen year pro and coach Fortino said
no to it. That's just a fact.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
That's a fact.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
That same time, when reads came out of that county school,
did you think Reach Shepherd's gonna be the best player
in Kentucky's team last year?
Speaker 1 (25:04):
I didn't think he was but he end up being
I didn't know exactly, I didn't, but he was, but he.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Was, and then it's hit or miss. I hate to
say it. Travis Perry is still young his UK career,
but it's not reached.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Yeah, yeah, don't invalue. But no, See that's unfair. Don't
evaluate people by Rex Shepan, Reed Shepherd, Darryl Griffiths. That's
not fair. Yeah, I mean you got to give the
kid Perry a chance. He's I wouldn't give him.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
I'm saying his freshman year is not paying out like
read Shepherd's. That's the only thing I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
No, but that's not Everybody's not gonna be read that's
not that's not fair. As to me, nobody said it
was gonna be readship.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
But that's that's a fair. Equivalent to by saying every
person that goes to U of l UK doesn't have
to be a superstar. You can so there is. You
can't tell me everybody on Kentucky's team is a five
star because they're not. There are three stars and two
stars that get on there. There's two stars on Duke
all the time and three stars that worked the way
up to starting roles. Jordan Goldwire wasn't even he wasn't
even recruited. He went from a walk on to a
starting four year starship player. It's doable, but you got
(26:01):
to give a guy a chance of you now and then.
That's what I'm saying. There's just no room for opportunity
with those schools.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Well, and it's because the assistant coaches honestly don't know
what they're doing anymore. They recruit whoever two forty seven
Sports says can play. And yeah, I mean, just prime example,
let's just be honest before we get to we got
to move on. Let's just be honest when you're talking
about Wagner, who was at Kentucky's, at Arkansas DJ and
everybody the number one player of this going pro number
(26:28):
one pick this, that and the other. And you know,
I told your older brother and everybody does. It's the truth.
I wouldn't watch you when everybody was raving at him.
Here in LOUIEVI, my first chance in person to watch him,
I said, I liked I did. I say he's a
little bit than Jerry Eves though he was never a
number one playing in the country. Well, all the steris,
every rating service had him number in the country. I
(26:49):
didn't and you know that, and I told personal friends.
But you Beard Ron who calls the show I told that,
will tell you. I don't care what they rated him.
He wasn't, so Anthony. Those rating services that these assistant
coaches go by and everybody gets enamored by, they don't
know what they're doing. That's why you're right, Derek Smith
wouldn't play today. They wouldn't have gone and found him
(27:11):
in ogan Ville, Georgia playing Son of a Buck. I mean,
you're right, that part is correct. That's because assistant coaches
and some head coaches do not know what they're doing.
But I just want everybody knowing the ineves sports trade.
We're gonna go to break. Anthony DJ played here. I
told people then he hadn't signed at Kentucky, he hadn't
signed at Louisville. It wasn't biased, it wasn't anything. I said.
(27:34):
He's gonna be a great four year player in college
and he's going to beat and he's got a chance
to be a pro. But he's not. That just factor
the matter.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Go to commercial before we go to our break. The
last thing I want to say is we're saying I'm
glad you brought Derek Smith kind of going out to
you goo to Hopkinsville. Yes, okay, prime example, who do
you know who was the runner up for Player of
the Year my senior year that played in SEC No,
I don't. That wasn't recruiting Kentucky. Eric Holeman, the six
ten ward that went to Mississippi State Machines. Yes, didn't
(28:06):
get recruited at all, won the state time, didn't get
recruited by any Kentucky schools.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
All I'm saying is that wasn't coach Kelsey. I agree
with you, but that wasn't coach Kelsey. I agree with that.
That is true. And he came back and killed Louisville
and the n I T one year just killed them.
They destroyed them out of the Young Center. I was
at the game. Your hundredercent correct with that? You are?
You are? It's seven thirty seven great point, Anthony e
Sports radio phone numbers five zero two, five seven, one
(28:31):
seventy nine hundred. When we come back, we're going to
get into Anthony's opinion in the Ravens, and then I'm
going to tell you all the facts that what Lamar
is going to have to do talk to you in
a second January twenty first, twenty twenty five. Fantastic appointment, Anthony.
I appreciate what you said in Holman was a quality
player and know you're correct. Every player recruited by state
(28:53):
schools should not have to be an NBA player, but
should be a quality, high level player. I agree with that.
Let's get into your opinion, Anthony of the Ravens game
against Buffalo hard Fould excellent game. Your opinion of Lamar
Jackson's play.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
I thought his play was.
Speaker 7 (29:15):
It wasn't what we expected to see. You know, I
hate one of those scenarios because I am a Lamar fan.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
I do like Lamar.
Speaker 7 (29:22):
It wasn't horrible, but it could have been a lot
worse if you want to put in perspective like that.
The mini school turnovers that he has, the one he threw,
he threw over his wide receiver by like ten yards
and got picked off with nobody around, those are the
plays you.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Have to eliminate. Now.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
The fumbles that.
Speaker 7 (29:36):
Happened in the pocket, even though with Mark Andrews you
don't want them to happen, but in sports that does happen.
That happens sometimes, you know, somebody hits the ball perfectly
and there's nothing you can do about it. It gets stripped.
But you try to eliminate those. But the thing I
say to the quarterbacks when they overthrow passes by ten
yards scrambling out of the pocket, those you either just
need a run out of bounds or just throw it
out of bounds. You don't need to heave that up
(29:58):
and try to make an all star pass like the
Patrick Mahomes. I'm sorry, he's the only one that really
kind of gets away with it from time to time.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
But those are what.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Casts if you.
Speaker 7 (30:07):
Because everyone knows the Ravens is a better team. I
don't care that the Bills won to have a three
turnover the margin difference and only win by two points,
and for your best tied end the top three times
in the NFL. To drop a wide open two point
conversion to go into overtime and possibly win the game.
It's like all the chips fell and plays perfectly for.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Buffalo to win that game and then did.
Speaker 7 (30:26):
And I'm not sitting here marking on this. They're gonna
the Builds are gonna play their next game, and I
think they play the Eagles, right, But the Eagles Chiefs
Patrick Mahon. Yeah, I hate even for a Chiefs down year.
I think the Bills are gonna kind of get this,
just gonna get right over you think, Travis Kelsea.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
They do show up playoffs.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
I'm taking the Bills, even though I'm not knocking mahomes.
But you're the first person that always I can't, I
can't bet against the goat.
Speaker 7 (30:59):
Now you're betting to get I.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Am. I am, I just like you know what. I
like what the Bills did, and I like what McDermott did,
and I'm gonna tell you why. Though I'll tell you why.
Here's the deal An and Ac. It's gonna be hard
because to get to you today, Ac, I love you,
But I want to take my time with Lamar because
I want people to understand the criticism and what's got
to happen. So let's just first and foremost, Lamar Jackson
(31:24):
Anthony is a phenomenal talent, and I want everyone Shannon
has got it loaded to listen to Lamar's frustration. But
with frustration must come learning, and with learning must come coaching.
And I'm going to explain it to people. But Shannon,
I do want you to play the Lamar Jackson clip.
(31:44):
We're gonna go to break right after that, Shannon, and
then when we come back, that'll give me a solid
ten twelve minutes to explain to people what everyone needs
to know for Lamar to take the next step. I
called pro players, I called Jojacoby, I choke Clayton. I
called a lot of coaches that I knew football wise,
because I wanted to get an opinion, not just of mine,
(32:07):
but a true opinion from players that have played at
a high level. So let's play Lamar's clip after the game.
I love him, no excuses. He did not put it
on Andrews at all. He put he accepted it. Here's
what people need to know. He's played eight playoff games.
He's three and five and four of the eight playoff games,
he's had two turnovers in them. Those turnovers have caught
(32:28):
the cost the Ravens thirty five points. The opponent's turnovers
were three one one turnover for three points. The Ravens
are losing games off of Lamar's turnovers. And I'm gonna
explain to you where coaches comes into coaching comes into play.
I'm just not sure if John Harball is the one
and I mean that sincerely, and I'll explaining to you.
(32:49):
Please play the clip and we're gonna go to break Shannon.
Speaker 8 (32:52):
The first half, I had two costly turnovers, me not
holding the safety, me just knowing the covering, me knowing
it was a man thought BS in this. Yes, sure, Gabe,
we h it was seven seven at the time. I
believe they scored after that battle back. UH fumble snap
trying to make something happen, and Little couldn't throw. It
was like a RPO place, so I couldn't really throw
(33:13):
the ball to uh likely you know, the office line
down the field, So I was trying to make something happen,
tried to sweeze the ball, slept out my hand, Environmental
picked it up, got some yards I back. That led
to points for them.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
So it's a team effort out there.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
You know.
Speaker 8 (33:27):
He been bunching his BHD, he making places happening out
down that s field for us.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
UH came up short.
Speaker 8 (33:32):
And like I've been saying all season, every time we
had situations like this, turnovers play a factor.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Penalties play a factor.
Speaker 8 (33:38):
Today t well, tonight the turnover became had a you know,
and that's why we lost the game. Cause as you
can see, moving the ball wonderfully. It's hold on to
the football. I'm sorry for my language, nor.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Tired, you know. Thank you Shan and take us to break.
I love Lamar Jackson, accept your responsibility, but there's more
than that, and I'm gonna talk to you intimittent about it.
Welcome back to EVE Sports Radio seven forty nine January
twenty First, speaking about Lamar Jackson, I'm a fan of
Lamar Jackson, so everyone knows. I was never a fan
(34:10):
of the Ravens, and I'm not a fan of the Ravens.
I'm a fan of Lamar Jackson. But now that he
plays with the Ravens, I watched them and here's what
has to happen, guys. The coach's name was Denny Crumb.
The player's name was Daryl Griffith. Now, Dall Griffith was
a super talent, not Lamar Jackson level talent. I'm gonna
(34:33):
be honest with you. What he does in the NFL,
Daryl could not do in the NBA. But Darrow was
a very good, very very very good play but he
still had to learn. And Denny Crumb fought Daryl Griffith
for three years Daryl Griffith could have gone pro his
junior year. He would have been a top five pick
and he would have made the same amount of money.
(34:54):
But he chose to stay in school. And he was
lucky that he had a true coach, and coach Crumb
used to teach him in practice and in the games.
And I'm gonna give you all examples. Less is more?
What do you mean, Jerry? Less is more? In athletics,
(35:14):
you always don't have to Lamar Jackson try to make
it happen, make a play. It's a team sport. Less
is more. You must let your teammates play. You have
to make your teammates better. Less is more. Now does
Lamar Make's teammates better, No question about it. And did
Derrick Henry make Lamar Jackson better? Yes he did, But
(35:37):
less is more. I don't think John Harbaugh has said
that directly to that young man to his face. Going
into four playoff games, Yes, his record is the same.
I saw it on the internet. Is Manning's records three
and five. But Manning didn't have eight turnovers you all
in four playoff games? You got me, He just didn't
have The team had two turnovers in four games. Big games. Yes,
(36:05):
first half turnovers, the interception uncalled for. That's unnecessary. That's
trying to do too much. Less is more. He saved
the snap. The snap was bad. He saved the snap
because of his ad likability. You go down. Less is more.
You don't have to be Superman. Take your cape off, Lamar.
(36:26):
Less is more. You accept oops, I'm going down. You
live to play another down, So pro players. Mark Clayton.
I asked him directly, I'm gonna tell you all to play.
It happened at five point forty five of the second quarter.
Nobody recognized it. I called my friends. People were honest
with me, and he said no. But after explaining it to him,
(36:46):
they said, ooh, yes, I'm gonna explain it to you.
The Ravens are second on the one yard line. They
call a play action pass, just like Lamar said, got
me on the one yard line. They snap it to him.
He looks at option one, Option two, Option three is
supposed to cast that ball out of the end zone.
(37:11):
That is pop one er quarterbacking. That is high school quarterback.
And I called high school coach. That is should have
been told in college. You should have gone through it.
One of my players. I'm not going to tell you
who said one two castaway, one two castaway. Anything inside
the three yard line, you don't take a sack. It
goes down as a sack, like Mark Clayton said. But
(37:34):
Lamar Jackson was not sacked. He tucked that ball in
his right arm, ran up the middle and got tackled
on the eight yard line. I was livid. Carry my
brothers there, my wife's there. I got people on the phone,
my son's there. I'm living. They're like, what's wrong. I said,
he doesn't know the game. They're like, what's wrong? Carrie played,
(37:55):
but he didn't get it either. Guys with sports, I'm
not bragging, but I'm being honest with you. I know
a lot about this game. I said, cast away, throw
it away. He said, what do you mean? I said,
he ran the ball. They tackled him at the eight
yard line. It was third on the eight. He's supposed
to throw that ball to the end zone ten twelve
feet off the ground, four rows up. Lived to play
(38:17):
another down. He wasn't even frustrated. I didn't see harball frustrated.
I didn't see his offensive coordinator. They didn't show him.
I know Tony Romo knew, but Romo didn't say anything.
It ended up being third on the eight. Must learn
the game. Professionals have to know the game. John Harball,
(38:39):
listen to me, now you will. I'm livid. I'm mad
at halftime. I want no mar to win. People know
that my man, Ryan and I don't get it twisted.
Ryan and I run. He's a phenomenal athlete. But every
big game he does this he does. I'm not gonna
lie anymore for him. I'm not second half. He was impeccable,
without a doubt, best player on the field. But dang,
it is a two a half game. So Danny Crumb
(39:01):
used to tell Daryl Griffith, less is more teaching him.
You don't have to do it all. So I'm taking
you all to the example UCLA game. God, I gotta
hurry up. Shoot UCLA game. We're down four points. Danny
Crumb calls time out. You SLA's playing a two three zone.
He puts Daryl Griffith on the point, he puts Jerry
Eves on the left wing. Run the offense. We're walking out.
(39:24):
He pulls him on my shirt. I turn around. Coach
Crumb says, you might have to shoot it. Nobody else
knew it. I just knew it. I looked at him.
Oh I had four points, Anthony. We down four. It's
lesson four to go in the game. Go look at
the tape. We go out there. We're passing around the perimeter.
Daryrol throws it to me. I throw it back. He
passes it to Derek. Derek. That wasn't what Derek did.
Derek was not We had Wyley Brown and Rodney in
(39:45):
the low post. He wasn't gonna shoot it. Darrol throw
its back. He swings it to me. I faked the shot.
Throw it back to him. He throws it to Derek.
Daryl Griffith turns to me. In the game, shoot the
ball straight up. Derek Smith throws it back to Daryl.
Daryl throws it to me. Anthony, I shoot the ball.
I scored. We're down two. We come down. UCLA is
(40:08):
out of the two three zone. Got me, but there
fudget Every time we threw it to Darryl my defender rocket,
Rod Foster would go double. Daryl threw it to me again.
As the ball's coming to me, he's looking right at me.
I'm looking at the ball. Take him. Anthony and I
took him straight to the hoop bucket tie game. Darryl
(40:33):
Griffith did not make the super play. Less was more.
He told his teammates, let's win this. Daryl hits a
fallaway that puts us up too. I told my friend
I was wrong. He hits a fall away that puts
us up to. Then Derek Smith and Rodney McCray rolling
two free throws games over Homeboy. Daryl scored to it
the last ten. He must be taught, Lamar Jackson. He
(40:55):
must accept it. Coming out of halftime. Here's what John
Harball said. That's why I don't know if Harball's the one.
I don't I believe in coaching. I'm a tomblin man.
What did y'all say, the lady asked to the coach. Oh,
we didn't say anything to Lamar. He did all the talking.
Bull crap. I was livid when I heard that. Anthony.
I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
bull crap. You needed to tell him some things. That's
(41:19):
your job. So it's Lamar's job to learn the game.
That boss supposed to be cast it out of bounds.
It's supposed to be third on the one yard line,
not on the eight yard line. Nobody got it. But
that's just a fact. Mark Clayton said, they never said
it to Damn Marino, but they said thank you. But
they said it to the backups, but they didn't say
(41:41):
it to Damn Marino. Dan knew when they practiced, one
too cast it away, one too cast it away, one
too cast it away. So guys, now it's time for
Lamar to do less. He's talented, damn it. He can't
be quarterback. Everybody can go to h E. L L.
He'll be one of the greatest of all time if
(42:01):
he's coached, and he's coach a bull and that's what
I'm waiting to see. I'm still a Litlamar Jackson fan,
no question about it. But those things have to happen
for him to win it. Like Daryl Griffith, you have
to know less is more. It's E Sports Radio. Appreciate
y'all sitting in with me to day. We'll talk more
about all the games tomorrow. Love yo, Bye bye
