Speaker 1 (00:00):
I hate to tell you that.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
I wish I could do the show for my basement,
be a lot easier, save me a lot of stress.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Oh no, of course, I hate to tell you that,
but it is what it is. So guys, let's just
make sure that as you all make your way into work,
be safe. People's loved ones are out there. Now. Let's
bring on that co host of mine, the young one
that's got all the energy, Anthony, how are you.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
I'm doing good this morning. All the energy I wish
I did. Sometimes better find it.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
That's all I can tell you. Shannon, will tell you You've
got a long haul in front of you. You're not
even thirty. You gotta work for another thirty years. Welcome
to the real world. That's all I can tell people.
Welcome to the real world. But anyway, find a job
you like, Anthony. It's not work, That's what I tell everyone.
It's your job to find the right job for yourself.
(00:52):
That's the key to life. I did. I'm in every
post office in America, Shannon, you didn't know this. Everyone
stealing money, boy, I've always found a way. I'm find
the perfect jobs for Jerry's without a death. I have
stole more money in the law allows, but everyone can
work for a living. Just remember that it's your job
to find a job that she enjoyed doing. So, Anthony,
(01:15):
We've got a lot to get to. And I'm sitting
right here and I'm watching Major League Baseball. I watched
the All Star Game. I didn't watch the finish. Next thing,
I know, it's six to six, which I did not expect,
And all of a sudden, we've got this home run
derby Again. What transpired last night, Anthony and Major League
Baseball was All Star Game?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, obviously, so there's a lot that lived on last
night in that All Star Game. That was pretty astounding. Obviously,
the day the game was in and outed at sixty
six fourth in the first swinging off tie breakers since
twenty fifteen, everyone.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Knows that did watch.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
If you didn't, that college forward turned it up by
going three for three in the plate appearance showdown, clinching
the win from the National League. The wind with the
dramatic waff off and the swing off was named the
All Star Game MVP. But the noble moments before that,
you ever get that showy Tony did some back an
early three run homer given the n l a strong start,
and then the al did respond with runs from Brent
(02:11):
Rooker and Arizonia Arizenren. Sorry about that missing the name
up including rookers crucial three run blast a tie in
the seventh Indy.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Obviously.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
One of the other notable things as well is that
legendary pitcher Clayton Kershaw hit the mound in what it
might have been his final All Star appearance, earning him
a warm standing innovation.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yes, no question, I enjoyed Baseball Star Game. I really did.
I think it's put on well. I think the players
enjoyed it. I really did. But it was a crazy finish.
I couldn't stay up that late. It was a crazy finish.
What a good game and Major League Baseball Congratulations show,
well done, no question. I think that everyone was happy
with I was happy with what I watched, There's no
(02:53):
question about that. So anyway, we've got a lot, I
mean a lot to give to it. Let me just
give people a little rundown. I want to sometime throughout
the show, I'm going to Honor talk about Randall Cop,
Tayshawn Prince, University Kentucky football players being football and basketball players,
Tayshon Prince being put into the Hall of Fame, and
(03:15):
we're gonna talk about some of the car shows. Everyone
knows I will get Dave Hubert back on. We do
know that Street Rise is coming. We're gonna touch that.
We even have a Keenland Concourse car show that blue
Grass Audi has a lot to do with, so we'll
talk about that. And NFL Camp. I can't believe it,
but it's here. We've got the Open, guys, we're talking
(03:36):
about golf, the Open, the oldest championship, which will be
held this weekend. We're gonna talk about that. Anthony a
Royal Port Rush. Can't wait for that. That's Thursday early.
People have to get up, which is fine with me.
I'm loving that. And we've got TVT college football playoffs
and the top ten NFL quarterbacks. So we got a
(03:58):
lot to get to. But before we do, or we did,
I want to touch something that you know, it just
it irritates me. Cee ol Brown wrote a column about
what happened at the Run for the Roses, the women's tournament,
AAU tournament out at broad Been Arena, and everyone has
(04:19):
heard what has transpired. They thought it was an active shooter.
There's been rumors that a child fell out of the
ceiling and hit a chair, which the mayor said did
not happen yesterday. We know that there was a faulty
smoke sensor that set off the alarm, and after that
people started to think about what has transpired in America,
(04:42):
which is factual, with all the gun violence that we've
had that crosses all party lines. It's not a Republican problem.
It's not a democraocratic problem. It's not an independent problem.
It's an American problem that we do have no evans
buts about it. We have more guns violence in any
country in the world. I think we love that stat,
(05:04):
I really do. I think we've come to beat our
chest over that. I don't know why, but that's kind
of where we are right now. We're kind of in
an ignorant state, we really are. So we understand that
we've had four miners shot in the city of Louisville
over the last three or four days. We know what
(05:25):
happened at Lexington at the church. I mean, I keep
up with the news. I try to keep that out
of the sports programming, but sometimes sometimes just like I
felt the same about whoever went to the dirt bow
court after it was painted a beautiful court and started
(05:46):
doing doughnuts. And then again we're at a women's AAU
event where you have all the college coaches. You have
ladies that are trying to find their way to get
free educations and also maybe have an opportunity to earn
some money in college trying to participate and show their wares.
And they've practiced hard. Anthony, as you well know, your cousin,
(06:10):
doctor Apral Brooks, who runs different county school systems athletics department.
Her daughter was playing in the event. Okay, my women's
basketball coach, Earl Rufflin was at the event. Both of
them have told me what it transpired, the chaos after that.
But I just want everyone to understand that we our
(06:32):
politicians aren't going to do it. We can forget that
they've taken the money. You and I just want to they,
all of them, Please don't hit me with this party,
that party. They have taken the money, and we must
find a way to change. They not us. They we
(06:53):
elect people to lead us. We must elect people out
the key. This is so simple, It crosses all party lines.
People have run on it, and the minute they get
in they forget the words that came out of their
damn out. It's very simple. It's called term limits or congressmen,
(07:16):
Senator's House of Representatives, term limits. Period. I know Mitchell
con I've known him forever. I News, I work for
Williams County. Judge. Guys, I'm old, but nobody should do
forty years. I'm sorry, I don't care. Call my show
if you disagree. Nobody should do forty years. That's ridiculous, period,
(07:39):
point blank. And everybody always loves to go back to
the forefathers. They had real jobs, they went to DC,
voted on things that went back to work. It's a
lie again. I'm just telling you all the facts. Our
elective officials have lied to us and has led us
and made it permanent jobs or got rich off us.
And that's all this is. So. I don't know how
(08:03):
we do it, but we must do it. It's called
term limits. And the minute we get term limits, we'll
get laws that make sense, and we'll get things that
help and affect the community, not just their pockets. Like
I told you, I just can't stand when our representatives
that we elect vote themselves the best insurance in the
(08:24):
world and then turn around and tell everybody tough luck.
You don't have to have it. I just can't take
it anymore. It's stupid. I don't know how you all do.
I just don't know how we do. I just don't
know how we jump behind a party and say who.
I just don't know how we do it. I don't.
But it's called term limits. It's real simple finishes this.
Things will come back. I mean, things will be beautiful.
(08:47):
If we can get term limits voted in, period point blank.
The lobbyists will go away. There'll be no reason to
buy people. They're not going to be there forty years
to affect their pocket and hours taking our money, our money.
Things will run just a so much smoother. So that's
my editorial, Anthony.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
I'm gonna leave it alone.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
The gun violence is never gonna change until we get
term limits to where we truly have control of our leaders,
period point blame. So anyway, we're at seven sixteen, let's
go to break. When we come back, we're gonna jump
back into sports, and we've got a lot to talk about. Anthony.
I'm gonna let you tell me where you want to go.
Top ten quarterbacks that's heated or the open is Roy
(09:31):
McRoy gonna get two majors in the same year. E
Sports Radio. We'll talk to you in a minute. Welcome
back to Sports Radio seven twenty It is July the
sixteenth and twenty twenty five. Anthony, it is Humpday. It's Wednesday.
We're halfway through, guys, We're halfway through it. Just keep pushing.
(09:53):
So Anthony, before we throw it to you, I'm gonna
let everyone know that the forty seventh class the Kentucky
Sports Hall of Fame, which I'm a member twenty twenty five,
is inductee four new members. Two of them I know personally.
The other two I do not. Kara Lipke Gymnast, I
do not know her, and Norah Martin Ross a trap shooter.
(10:15):
I have never met those two, but congratulations to them
also though people I do know, Randall Cobb and Tayshawn Prince,
well job, well done. I appreciate you all coming in.
It's a great honor and welcome to the Class of
Kentucky Sports twenty twenty five Hall of Fame. For both
players basketball football University of Kentucky. They had a dark side,
(10:38):
but Kayshawn was probably one of the better defenders than
everyone remembers. It was Detroit Pistons. Boy. Kayshawn was tough.
He was probably to weigh one hundred and eighty pounds
anfidy at sixty seven. He was the toughest defender you
ever run across in the NBA. I'm telling you he
would guard people, There's no question about it. I saw
him in Las Vegas. Is the general manager of one
(11:01):
of the NBA teams, and he's doing really well for himself,
and I'm happy for him. So anyway, Anthony, where do
you want to go? I mean, we've got so much
to talk about. I'm going to get into the car
show coming out of the next break. You want to
start with the quarterbacks? Where do you want to start?
It's up to you, man, you tell me.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
I don't think we got to get back on the quarterback.
We got to get much into it into it yesterday
because you know, I think that's a big top conversation.
I think a big topper conversation for these top team
quarterbacks because I think it's going to be a real
differential maker obviously with their teams, but even coming up
in the future of these franchises, and I think even
plays a small factor in a lot of wire are
(11:41):
these do you think these quarterbacks and the success that
they've had over the years and the money that they're
getting paid is the possible reason why a lot of
people are kind of backing out of the flight of
the markets on football, A lot of teams have been
selling lately, a lot of special teams that we've seen
just in general, even from MLB, NBA, NFL team and.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
The NBA is speaking about expansion again. Adam Silva was
talking about expansion. Anthony, I don't know about that. I
think that Okay, that was a great question. Let me
gather myself. Never my wildest dreams. Did I ever believe
that a player would make a million dollars a game?
(12:26):
Anthony and my wildest dreams? And Shay Giles Alexander is close,
so is young man in Phoenix. Come on, my mind's going, Anthony,
about your day. I'm from New York, University of Kentucky,
my shooter, Come on, aunt, help me out my two
guarded Phoenix. It's just on two year, one hundred and
forty five million, seventy two million a year. The shooting.
(12:49):
Devin book Yes, Devin Booker, thank you never my wildest dreams,
did I ever believe this would be happening. And it's happening,
so saying, and people are continuing to want to invest
their money in these leagues, Anthony, I'm going to say no,
but no, I couldn't phantom this as a pro player
(13:10):
in nineteen eighty two, as a pro coach in nineteen
ninety five, my first year with the Nets. Never my
wildest dreams. I don't think anyone would have ever said
where we are. So I'm going to answer your first
question with no. I think the upside is still up.
I think people believe that professional sports owners one in
(13:30):
they're buying in. I just want people to understand one
thing with basketball, after the players are paid fifty two
and a half percent, the owners get forty eight forty
seven and a half, Just so you know, there's a
lot of money out there to be made. I just
want people to understand that. So I know, Anthony, and
I didn't think that. I do think that expansion is
(13:51):
still a good thing. I think it helps communities and cities.
It brings a lot of taxable dollars to communities, So
I still think they're very viable. Now. As for these
quarterback the football contracts. Anthony is such a violent sport.
That's why I like it so much. There is no gimmes.
When people say, all these guys on the list, let
me read them, and I'm in agreements honestly all the
(14:15):
way to five. I agree. Patrick Mahomes is one, Josh
Allen is two because he beat Lamar. Joe Burrows is three.
He's been to a Super Bowl now, and if they
don't do something this year, I want to put Lamar
in front of him for good. They have to do something,
just like Lamar has to do something. I'm giving Joe
(14:38):
Burrows three because he has been to a super Bowl,
he has defeated Patrick mahonins got me Lamar's four. I
got no problem with Lamar, and I continue rubbing it
in people's face. If there was a wager draft days seven,
eight years ago, whenever Lamar came out, and no one
would have said this period, point blank, gota been a
rich man. Period, point blank been a rich man. Daniels
(15:02):
Jalen Dan from the Washington what a phenomenal rookie year.
I want to see what he does again this year.
But last year he was cool as a cucumber, tremendous year.
Matthew Stafford, like Matthew's consistently good. Justin Herbert. A lot
of people are upset with Justin Herbert and Matthew in
front of Jalen Hurts. Now it's the great question that
(15:26):
it is the great question. You don't love Hurts. I
give Hurts more credit than you do. You like him
as a player. I don't want people to get it wrong.
You did say he is a great he played with
a great team. Well, most Super Bowl champions are on
great teams, Anthony, most, I mean, they really are. But
people seem not to want to give Hurts his credit.
I like Hurts as a quarterback. He would be in
(15:48):
mine six. I would have put him in front of
Matthew Stafford. Myself got me, then they got Baker Mayfield
Riot rounding it out. He's turned his career around. He's
done a great job at Tampa, and he's played well.
But he's had multiple opportunities, and it seems like he's
taking advantage of this one. My man, Dak Prescott, the
(16:08):
highest paid quarterback, is not in the top ten. So
I'm gonna throw it back to you. Anthey, those are
the quarterbacks, And I'll tell you, if you don't know
the order, how would you arrange him? Patrick Mahomes won
for you.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Yeah, I played with Mahomes one. That Hue spot is
still a little tough. I'm a Lamar Jackson fan, so
I go Lamar too. Still, I know people are gonna
hate me.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Josh Allen. No only reason I don't, Anthony, is Josh
beat him last year. So if he would have beat
Josh last year, I'd have put Lamar to I would have.
I'm not Lamar fan, no question, but I just he
has to in the playoffs beat these He has got
to beat Patrick Mahomes. He's gotta beat Josh Allen. Okay,
(16:52):
regular season he owns. Joe Burrows got me. There's no comparison.
The Ravens beat Baltimhere every time they see them. Now
it's forty two thirty nine. It's not that Joe Burrow
didn't do his job, Anthony, it's just Baltimore Old scored.
Lamar did his job. But that's the only reason in
mind Lamar's not to It's because Josh Allen defeated him
(17:14):
year headhead. It has to happen. You've got to do
it in the playoffs, Anthony to take the crown. I
see what I'm saying, No, and I think there's you
know what I'm saying. That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
But I love thee else accomplishing in respective for you.
So everybody, everybody always just talks about the playoffs, and
I get that, but we're going to We're gonna going
to last season. It's the head ahead matchup of stats
between Josh Allen Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Now it's just a full season. So in the regular season,
Lamar bat Josh Allen. They both played seventeen games. Josh
Allen was thirteen and four, Lamar Jackson was twelve and five.
But we go to a completion percentage, Lamar bt Josh
Allen sixty six point seven to Josh Allen sixty three
point six. He had five hundred more passing yards one
point one more yards for pass yards attempted yards per
(18:02):
game was more two hundred and forty five to two
hundred and eighteen. Lamar had forty one passing touchdowns with
Josh Allens twenty eight, only four intos to Josh Allen six,
with a one nineteen QB rate to Josh Allen's one
on one and he had more rush attempts at thirty seven,
more rushing yards at four hundred more rushing yards a game.
The only thing that Josh Allen beat him in really
(18:24):
was rushing touchdowns and one game better record. But he
was the MVP last year. Josh Allens really did that much.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Better than Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Really, no, seventeen games fan, it was all Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
So why don't the MVP boy? That's well, no, no,
no idea. Lamar is two times MVP and I've ragged
about each one. He is two times MVP and I've
ragged about each one. Got me, So, yes, it was
really close last year. Absolutely, And I think when I
(19:00):
talk to the people that played the game, Mark Clayton,
they all tell me that they wish that for this
MVP voting it would be encompassed, but they know it's
a regular season MVP trophy. It's not a playoff. It's
a regular season. So yes, when you say regular season,
(19:22):
you can argue, and I can argue, and I'm not
arguing against you about the numbers. Lamar's got tremendous anthony.
Nobody's rubbed Lamar Jackson and people's face more than I have, because,
like I said, if we would gone back to draft
day when Lamar was sitting there, last guy in Baltimore's
traded up to get him, no one thought he'd be
a quarterback in the NFL, no one. I'm not fighting that.
(19:45):
I'm just saying, now that he has established himself, he's
two time MVP, he is. I'm not backing off that, Anthony.
I want to see in the playoffs regular season. I
can't argue with you, and I'm not I'm a Lamar man,
but I would still now myself. I told everyone all
he has to learn is less is more, And I'm
(20:05):
putting a little pressure on the coach too to go
along with that. I did see Josh Allen in the playoffs.
Anthony grow, didn't turn the ball over like he had
in regular in playoff games before I had seen him grow.
I just wanted to see the growth in Lamar to understanding.
Here's the play, Anthony. What upset me more and most
(20:26):
people didn't even know it. I told you when we
were watching it, Carrie, when you was here with us,
I was talking round on the phone when Lamar took
the sack on the one yard line instead of casting
that ball out of the end zone. Is when I
said I'm getting after the quarterback coach. I'm getting after
the head coach because he has to know one two
(20:48):
three was a passing play, Anthony, he optioned one option two.
No good, You cast it out the end zone. Mark
Clayton says, you cast it out the end zone. Mark
Clayton said on my show, you don't have to tell
Dann Marino to cast it out the end zone. He
knows that Lamar tried to run it, that sacked, moved
it back to the six yard line. That can't happen,
and that play in year seven can't happen. Those things
(21:09):
have to go. I'm critical on everybody on the mental
aspect of the game that part Lamar has to improve,
and the coaching, Anthony. I didn't see anybody say anything
to him on the sideline. I said it to you
that night, you know I did. I was upset with
the coaches. Damn it. Coached him so that he can
get to his ability. He's got so much ability. But
I want to see those coaches, Anthony. Everybody must be coached.
(21:32):
I want to see him do their job. I don't care.
If they want to win one, you must be uncomfortable.
That means Lamar too, Anthony winning one. Darryl Griffith told
Jerry Eves shoot the ball. Not bad word. He's just said,
damn ball. Not a bad word, guys, but he said it.
Shoot it. You understand me, Anthony. He didn't say I'm
(21:54):
gonna do it for us. All. He told me twice
in the National Championship game, shoot the damn ball, Jerry
got me. That's all I'm saying. That's what I want.
Coach Crumb had coached Griff Coach Crumb, He's gonna have
to shoot it, Jerry. He moved me from the point
on the two three to the wing dead in front
of the bench. Pull my coat tail. You want to
(22:16):
shoot it, Griff, you gotta shoot it, man yelled at
me in the game. That's what I want to see.
A Lamar. That's the growth and Anthony. When he does,
he gonna go down as one of the greatest. No questions. So,
but as regular season I can't argue with you. What
do you think about Joe Burrows? What do you think
about Joe Yoh's good?
Speaker 3 (22:37):
I like Joe in my in my top five I will.
I won't think Joe off the top five.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Okay, here's what you've got it. You gotta call her.
We got to call her. I hate to cut you,
but we gotta call her. He's been waiting, Mark Anthony,
Joe Burrows was my last year m VB. I don't
want anybody to get it twisted. Not Josh Allen. Oh,
his team was all. I don't care that boy. Go
read his numbers. That Joe Burrows is a bet. This
the quarterbacks Mahomes, Alan, Burrows, and Jackson and Daniels. Come on, guys,
(23:06):
football can't get any better. I mean that sincerely. It's
crazy to watch them. It's like video games. Let's take
our first caller. Who do we have on the line?
Mark or Welo? Esports Radio?
Speaker 5 (23:16):
Are you Corn and Jerry? Hey, I'm good. How are
you doing excellent?
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Talk to man?
Speaker 5 (23:26):
Yeah, I I just have a little bit of beef
with you about the quarterbacks. If Andrews would.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Have caught that ball, Okay, I got you, then.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Then he would have beat the Bills. I mean, but
that's not why I called.
Speaker 6 (23:45):
I gotta I gotta compliment you on your term limits.
I am one behind you on that it has to happen.
But I don't know how you get those people. I
don't know how you get those people that voted and
that happens.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
God, just be honest with you. They're not bad people.
I don't want people to get it wrong, but dang it,
they're not in our best interest, period point blank. Period
point blank. Now ran Paul ran on term limits. You
know he did, guys, we know he did. He spoke
about it, period point blank. God didnt. Obviously haven't heard
a word. I mean, I hate that and heard a word. Guys.
(24:25):
That's the only control factor that we can have that
will take care of this. All I'm telling everyone is
if they go do their history, lesson our representatives back
in the day, because we love to talk about that constitution.
Back in the day, had real jobs. They went to DC,
voted and went back to work. That's just the facts.
(24:48):
That's not what it is now. It's not that way anymore.
It's a joke. They all get rich off of us,
and then they are crew screaming, then yelling and term limits.
I don't know how we do it, but I'm being
honest with you, We the people have to find a
way to do that. Honestly, that's the change. That change
the loans corrects everything. I mean that, I truly believe
(25:10):
that in my heart of hearts. I don't care.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
I do as well, Derek. I just had to call
and back.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Yep, thank you, sir, and we're gonna get the break.
When I come back, we'll talk. Hey, let me tell you,
I've been in athletics all my life. Anthony knows because
I used to tell him. He would tell me about
those ifs and butts. If a frog had wings, he
wouldn't bump his butt. He has to catch it. But
I've never rolled over on Mark Andrews. He's what about
(25:37):
the fumble? No, I understand that Lamar was in the
second half. He was phenomenal. Yes, Andrews, he remember they
punched it out of his arm. They were driving at
that time, do you remember, Yes, I know it. I'll
watch the games. But I'm still saying quarterbacks get so
much of the credit that they have to take a
lot of the blame. So yes, I do agree with
(25:59):
the drop pass. And nobody's a bigger fan than me
and Labardackson. I'm with you. East Watch Radio will be
back after the break. Welcome back. To sports radio, and guys,
I'm gonna play a little clip from last night when
they were honoring mister Aaron and I think it's very fitting.
(26:19):
It's a beautiful tribute. Now and we got another caller on,
so let's get the Ryn Ryan talking to esports Radio.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Hey, guys, how y'all doing it this morning?
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Good? A long time. We'll talk to you. Scared. You
look nervous about this game coming up? You'll love nervous
test Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
No, I'm not nervous about it. I know what's coming.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
What's going on with your question?
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Hopefully I'll have some cover though, because of the baseball game.
I mean, the basketball game is before the football game.
We share, so I'm gonna try to use that for cover.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
You've been able to do it for a lot of
years in a row. But anyway, I'm hoping that this
one's gonna be right. It's fun now, it's exciting. I'm
being honest. Both teams are on the rise, playing well,
both coaches second year doing great. I mean, you had
a major player come back. I mean it's gone up.
When you got our way back, I think it's gonna
(27:20):
be a great year. I'm just wanting Indiana to raise
its game, truly, Ryn, so that we've got three like
the old days that are really competing in that top
twelve fifteen teams like it used to be. I really
I'm looking forward to it, really, But go ahead, what
do you so?
Speaker 2 (27:38):
First off, some tribute to Hank Aaron. Unfortunately I'm old
enough to I watched that game. I've seen that game
when it happened, and in fact, I was a month
from graduating high school with the night that happened, so
I remember it well. But why I called was the
(28:00):
thing on Lamar. And I know, I know you guys
love Lamar. I listen. I will not question Lamar's ability,
his skills, how well what he's probably he's a world
class athlete, I think. But I'm sorry if you if
you take all the money and you get all the credit,
(28:24):
you get the blame too. That's how this works, okay.
And and for years and years I heard, well the
mar needs better receivers, they went and got them. Well,
the Maar needs is they went and got maybe the
best running back in football. They got, they got him
all the tools, they gave him everything he needs. But
(28:45):
the difference in really really good quarterbacks and how they're remembered,
and great ones comes down sometimes to a handful of players, Jerry,
and it's decision making at that time that separates the
great ones from the good ones. And I don't think
he makes great decisions all the time under pressure. I
just don't. And you gave one example ago and you
(29:09):
you have to win the big games to be remembered
as a great one. I mean, you just have to.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
I'm not. I'm not, and I don't. I don't fight
with that, I really don't. I just want to make
sure because you and I we've gone round and round
and a lot of people and nobody questions Lamar's ability.
But from the beginning, if we would have said to you,
I just want you to tell me this eight years
ago when he came in the league, that we would
say boom boom, boom boom Lamar four, you would have
(29:37):
said it wouldn't happen.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
That's what's absolutely absolutely listen all what I say. And
I was one of the doubters.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
No, no, you knows a bigger fan than me. But
they didn't cast the ball out of bounds. I told
you that during the game. The announcers didn't even say
I love football. I know football. I told you that
at halftime. Do you remember I told you that During
the game, I told her, I told people, didn't even
recognize what happened. Once you throw it out of bounds,
(30:10):
don't see. But I don't like his coaches sometimes.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Right, it's the time see see there again, which I understand,
and I do understand what you're saying. There again. We
always have an excuse for Lamar. It's never Lamar's fault.
It's now you know you're saying the coaches, Well, was
the receivers, Well he needs a better lineman, Well he
needs better running back. Sooner or later, it's gonna be
(30:35):
Lamar's fault. Lamar's getting all the money. I'm getting all
the money.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Run. They all get paid, no question. I told you
on the spot, when he didn't cast it out of bounds,
that was his fault. But I told you I was
upset that when he went to the sideline, I didn't
see the quarterback coach walk up to him and discuss it.
That's when I was really pissed. They gotta take you.
I don't care. You have to be coached, you have
to be and they did not. They showed a walk
(31:03):
directly to the sideline set down by hisself. And that's
what I got.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
To It's when it's when in a game, big game,
that you you make mistakes. It's it's when you make
that turnover. It's it's when you make that bad decision
that can it's all the difference in whether you win
or you lose. Jerry a lot of times and and
I just don't think he's been great at that. I
(31:29):
still don't believe it.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
He hasn't. No, no, no, that part the playoffs. He
has not the regular season. He's got one of the
best records other than Patrick Mahomes. And I want to
see him step in the playoffs because I believe in it.
But I told you all Darryl Griffith came on my
show at the time, he was one of the most
(31:53):
phenomenal talents that had ever gone to college. Would you
agree about Daryl Griffin? Yes, yes, yes, crumb coach. Crumb
coach that boy. I'm telling you I was in practice.
He didn't start him as a freshman. He would call
him over and tell him when he messed up. That's
why I said, coaches Ryan when he went to the
when Lamar Jackson went to the bench when he didn't
(32:15):
cast that ball out of bounds at the end of
the series, then I had to kick a field goal.
But you know, Jerry, well, that's why I told him.
I'm not sure the coaches.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
What did Daryl Griffins tell? What did Daryl Griffins tell
the people of the city of littlelle that he would.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
Do No, he wouldn't want no, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
He would and he went, he went, and he done.
He done it after he after he also won a
state championship as a high school player. Also, So if
you want to be remembered fifty years from now, if
you want to be remembered as one of the great ones,
you better go win one.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
You got to win. You a chip. You got to
get a chip, got to get a chip. And and
the guys right going to work. I told everybody and
you last year he said, I'm going to break that.
Joe Burrows was my m v P. Don't get out,
want no one get it twisted. Last year everybody said,
how could you say that right or wrong? Right? Right
(33:13):
or wrong?
Speaker 2 (33:14):
I said, Joe burro Lae, Yes, But Joe Burrows has
won a national championship in college. He's been to a
super Bowl already. Okay, those are two days, and I
want you.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
To know Lamar has been one game away from the
super Bowl. He did get to the conference finals and
he lost to patic Man. He's been one game from
the super Bowl, you know.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
And I agree with I agree with the call of
Mark about Andrews dropping the ball, But what about all
the other places beside that one.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
That went wrong. There are a lot of places no
one play wins and loses a game. It's the collective group.
Every coach will tell you that, but you still would
like to see. I wouldn't. I would have loved to
see Andrew catch it, but he didn't. I would have
loved to see Andrew and the guys.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
The guy's in his eighth year now, so there's no more.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Excuse, no no, But I mean to MVP's no excuses.
He's he's accomplishing things. He just ain't got the chip,
that's all. And the only reason we're saying that is
because we both think he's good. I think he's good
enough to win it all. That's all. A regular quarterback bore.
They die to have what Lamar's done. But I don't
think Lamar's regular I think he's gonna go down. Is
(34:22):
one of the best. But you know it. That's why
I can't wait for football to start, right like I
get the break brother.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
Okay, all right, he's sports radio, and let me tell.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Y'all something before I go. Some of our elective officials
we need to look at ourselves because if they're not
good people, we got to look at ourselves, not them.
He's Sports Radio Talkyo a minute, Welcome back to EVE
Sports Radio. We've had a fantastic show, guys. I hope
(34:53):
you all are all making it to work. Be safe
and great conversation, and I just want everybody to understand.
And Rock Party just signed a five year, two undred
and sixty five million dollar deal one hundred and eighty
one million guaranteed with the Niners. There's a lot of
money being spent in sports today. But the thing that
(35:14):
distinguishes you, the one thing that Jerry's can say that
Vince Taylor can't say. Dirk Minfield won a high school
championship but not a college championship. Vince Taylor played on
great teams, but he didn't win a high college championship.
Jeff lamp can speak about it. Lee Rayker can speak
(35:35):
about it. Eryl Griffith can speak about it. Is winning
one that's pivotal guys, Guys accomplishing the ultimate goal is
the hardest thing in the world to do. That's why
you see grown men break down and cry. You see
grown men. It's hard to do. That's what everybody is
(35:56):
striving for. That's why they're playing. Everyone gets paid. Now,
I just told you Rock Perdy makes a sixty five million,
five year deal. Eighty one man guaranteed. Everybody gets paid
for the bottom line. The thing that does distinguish you
is what happens in those playoff games, and it's just
critical for Lamar and the Ravens. I don't like their
(36:19):
offensive coordinator. I don't like how the playoff games flow.
They're not like the regular season games for some reason.
They get behind right away. They don't execute, they don't
run the ball. There are a lot of things I
just I'm kind of upset with when it comes to
the Ravens in the playoffs. But the ultimate goal for Lamar,
He's done everything else. There's nothing else he has to
(36:43):
do other than when it all goes So I believe
you can do it. I'm a Lamar Jackson number one fan,
but also as an athlete, before you can put yourself
on the pedals, this pedestal, for sure, you gotta get
that chip guy did it. And Daryl Griffith told Jerry Eves,
(37:03):
ain't nobody shoot the dang ball. And that's what I
want to see, Lamar do. I want to see the
growth of I got the teammate. You have to get
it done for me. Yes, and Mark Andrews will have
to catch the ball next year, which I believe he'll do.
Eves Sports Radio had a great show. You'll have a
great day. I'll be back tomorrow. Good willing, bye bye
