Speaker 1 (00:00):
We all know what time that is. December twenty fifth
is Christmas, So get your shopping in. If you can
help a young person with a toy, a bike, anything, clothes,
lunch box, food, whatever you can do, if you can
spare it, please do help someone out. Put a smile
on someone's face. It's that time of the year. But
welcome back to sports radio. Everyone knows this is Sports
(00:22):
Talk seven ninety three KRD. I've got Shannon behind the glass. Yes,
we will have Playboy's got bulage back today and when
we get him on, we will go straight to the contest.
We'll make sure that I get him all the information today.
I got back from Europe, I think Sunday, so he's
still a little jet lag. But we'll have Scott on
(00:43):
with me, so we'll talk to him. And of course
you all know my phone number is five zero two
five seventy nine hundred. That's five zero two five seven
one seventy nine hundred. This is Sports Talk seven ninety
So Shan, when Scott calls in, let me know'll be
calling soon and we will go from there. Shannon. Scott
(01:05):
continues to let me know the phone lines there was
something going on. I couldn't even call into the phone line, Shannon.
So we're having a little problem with that. So I'll
let Scott know to just keep trying and I'll just
carry this thing, which is no problem. First and foremost,
we are going to talk about the contest to make
sure that everyone understands where they are. Scott should have
(01:28):
it great. Thank you, Shan. Scott, welcome to the show.
How are you man?
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I take a week off. I take a week off,
go on vacation, and now you try to replace me.
You tell me come back. You know I can't get
through and it's a tough way to figure out I've
been replaced.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
It's the best you have to bring. You have to
humble people. Scott can't bring you back like a superstar.
I called you a playboy. You've been to Europe, all
over the world. Come on, Scott, I called you a playboy.
You Joe Namath, come on, you know it's one and
two Joe exactly me coach and all. So hey, put
(02:09):
a smile on your face. So Scott, welcome back. Appreciate
you coming in. Of course, that's what we yesterday. I
will get you all of the games, all of the
weeks that you don't have, so you can go back
to calculating the games. Because of Billy Hayes, twy Country
Forward and Commonwealth Dodge, we have a five hundred dollars payout, guys,
(02:30):
five hundred bucks. I think we're the only station in
Louisville that truly given a five hundred dollars payout. And Scott,
I lost another hundred last week. Scott, I mean, it's
Billy's money, but I still hate giving it away. Scott.
I still don't like giving it to him. I want
to beat people. So they're in my pocket pretty good.
The week before, I lost one hundred to Adam. This
(02:53):
week it's one hundred. I forgot Adam this week, someone
else last week. No Jimmy this week, Adam last week.
So it's got people are getting in my pocket. And
we're probably five weeks away from a five hundred. Hey,
we're getting close, and Scott, it is really close. I'm
not even going through names, but I have four or
(03:14):
five people I know in the mix. That's all I'm
gonna say. I'm gonna send it to you and let
you go through it. But we've got four or five
that is so close you can't call it. So it's
getting to be really interesting. So we'll do that. I'll
get you all those things, but really quickly, how was
your trip? Good?
Speaker 2 (03:31):
It was great. I mean, okay, I know you're I
don't think you've never been to Italy.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Correct, I have not beat me. I'm mad about that too.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
No, it's I think that's a place where you can
take your family, and I will say bring your walking
shoes because you're going to be doing a lot of walking.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Not a problem. I can do that now, Scott, got
my hips and knees replaced. I'm good.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
I'm gonna listen to this. I calculated everything so the
entire trip. I was there for a week. For eight days,
I took one hundred and twenty two thousand steps and
walked over fifty six miles.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Let's see, Scott, that's crusty igrant. I'm not walking that far,
but I'm gonna walk some. That's agrant. I'm not doing that.
That's not gonna happen, so we can canceled that Christmas.
That's not I'm not going fifty six miles, but I'll
walk some. I'll walk in eighteen who golf course, man,
that's all they're gonna get out of me. That's probably three,
three and a half a couple of days. But now
(04:37):
I'm not doing fifty six guys, that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
But anyway, and I've the golf courses over there.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
That's why I don't wanna take my clubs. But I'm
not gonna do that kind of walking. That's crazy. So Scott,
this is what we have seven twelve, and we've got
controversy and turmoil. And again, I just want to make
sure that everyone understands what did transpire last weekend with
(05:03):
his college football playoffs. So I want to back it up.
First thing, Texas Tech beat the breaks off BYU for
the second time. Thirty four to seven. Wasn't close. Georgia
defeated Alabama twenty eight to seven. It was twenty one
to seven before de Bors makes a bad decision and
(05:26):
goes for work on fourth on his fifteen yard line,
which was dumb to make it twenty eight to seven.
And also he could have kicked the field go at
the end and made it twenty eight to ten. He
needs to learn from Kurtcinneti. If everyone remembers last year,
not this year. Last year when Ohio State was beating
the breaks off Indiana. SINNETI ran the ball, he held
(05:46):
the score down. Sinneti's a smart coach. Got some of
these guys. I've got to show him that I'll gamble,
I'll risk no sometimes. Jeffrey smart. So Alabama was lucky.
You may not win the games, goot, but you still
have to put your best foot forward. So daddy did that.
Last year. Ohio State was killing them. Everybody and myself,
(06:06):
I said, oh, he didn't try to win. He didn't
throw the ball, he ran the ball, he milked the clock,
he did Scott, he was smart. That's all. Indiana beats
Oile State thirteen to ten, Scott thirteen to ten. I
had Scott last week. It was carnage. If you look
at everyone else. I had three people that were five,
(06:27):
and oh, I've never had three people at all in
the entire contest. Got go five and oh I had
three last week and that amazing. And the person gets
in the briers patch with me. I take the under.
He was like, I guess eighteen thirteen or something like.
I took the over Scott because I thought of Indiana
would win score twenty points or so. Did not. Indiana thirteen,
(06:50):
while State ten Duke defeats Virginia. And all I'm going
to say for everyone that's listening, and we're going to
get into it after the break, don't be mad at
me now that I told you the truth. The reason
everyone's upset. How did Tulane and James Madison get in?
Because the ACC stinks. Now now you all understand it
(07:10):
costs your money. This guy they used to be Jerry's,
is a herd. He's a cut fan his brother under Kentucky.
I said, no, I just tell you the truth on
my show. That's all. The ACC stinks. The reason James
Madison and Tlane are in is because, guys, the ACC stinks.
It's not my fault. Do not. Basketball is doing much
better this year. Guys. I'm on a basketball wagon. They're
(07:33):
doing much better. Football stinks, period. That's the reason we
have two. So we'll get into that after the break.
And also, North Texas lost to de Lane thirty four
to twenty one. James Madison that Louisville defeated twenty eight
to fourteen. I was at the game beat Troy thirty
one fourteen. That's how they got in. But we'll describe
(07:54):
and we're going to explain it to them completely after
the break, Shannon, I sent you something yesterday, but I
don't know if you have it or not, but I
sent you something on Paul Fine Bomb today to your email.
So during the break, I want you to load the
Paul fine Bomb first, because I want to put this
Notre Dame thing to bed once and for all. I'm
(08:15):
just I'm tired of it, so I'm going to put
it to bed. I'm gonna explain it to everyone how
they have cherry picked the ACC and and talk bad
to us. After the break, I got Scott Bowwage at
seven fifteen to December the ninth, if you didn't know it,
Tuesday twenty twenty five, and we will be back after
the break. Welcome back to the Sports Radio seven nineteen.
(08:39):
I've got Scott bow Wage on with me. I've got,
of course, Shannon by in the glass. Shannon, I want
you all to play. I want to play you play
a clip for me, please, so that everyone can listen
to the dialogue about this Notre Dame saga. And after that,
I'm going to break it down for you the problems,
especially with the ACC and the Notre Dames of the
(08:59):
world Cherry picky the ACC conference which the ACC has
allowed for I don't know how long. It's embarrassing, so
please play the cliff Shay, You're.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Right, but ultimately it is just a big conundrum. And
one other thing though, Shay, Notre Dame makes all that
money off that NBC contract, But does anybody watch these games?
No on the on their on the week of their
biggest game of the year against Southern cal I think,
if I have this correctly, they lost in the ratings
to LSU and Vanderbilt on ABC. The problem is Notre
(09:33):
Dame is just not I mean, they think they're great,
but they're not. They're not the draw they used to be.
And that that has nothing to do with the playoffs
steeven A. It just has to do with the fact
that their brand, as good as they think they are,
aren't as big as the SEC brand or even the
Big ten brand.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Thank you, Shenny Scott. That's just comparison of weekend games.
I know they are a lot of Notre Dame fans,
and I'm not saying that you should not be a
Notre Dame fan. I'm just going to give you facts. Again.
A lot of people in the city of Lottie were
upset with me when I told the truth about ACC football.
(10:11):
It's here now, there's no question about it. Now. Notre
Dame fans and we have a few, Scott, they've called in.
You're won't be upset with me, but these are the facts.
Notre Dame has an NBC contract they've had forever. They
keep every dime. They're the big boys. I don't know why,
but they are. People aren't watching them. They're not. Paul
(10:34):
fine Baum explained that to everybody, Scott, they're not. But
NBC has made a heavy investment in the Notre Dame,
and Notre Dame has believed in this investment. But the
ACC does not reap any of the benefits from that
TV contract. It's got any of it. So when you
start to hear Bavecula, Pete Baveckla, the idiot Notre Dame
(10:57):
speak about he's highly upset with the ACC. That is laughable.
That's all I'm saying, Scott, that's comical. So let's start first, guys.
I went back and researched this because I wanted to
really get an understanding of I remember growing up Notre Dame.
I know it. Notre Dame meant I know about the
Golden Dome. I remember the sixties and the seventies, but
(11:18):
I'm going back to the seventies. Nineteen seventy seven, Notre
Dame and the AP finished first. Old people, please explain
to your young family members that there's been controversy over
this football when there weren't playoff games, there were only
bowl games. Who was first, who was second, who was third?
There's been controversy over football sixty years. This isn't new.
(11:40):
So everybody's killing the committee's got please stop. There's been
controversy when the AP would have one and two they
never played each other. There have been arguments for fifty
sixty years. So please quit saying the committee's messing it up.
This is just football. It happens. Let's go. They finished
first in nineteen seventy seven, AP, Notre Dame. They finished
(12:04):
first in nineteen eighty eight, AP, nineteen ninety to nineteen
ninety nine zero. They never finished first any of the
ten years two thousand to two thousand and nine zero,
they did not finish first. Got me. Notre Dame has
not won this thing. They do not own the college
football playoffs. They don't own the AP, they don't it's
(12:28):
a figment of our imagination, that's all, Scott, a figment
of our imagination. Twenty ten to twenty nineteen zero, they
did not finish first in the college football playoffs. Okay
they did not. They did last year playoffs State in
the championship game they finished second. They lost, but they
(12:50):
finished second. They also finished second. I want to say
in two thousand year, they don't let me miss it.
Twenty eighteen Cotton Bowl semifinals. He got me. They lost
to Clemson thirty to three. So, guys, this figment of
our imagination of Notre Dame the Golden Dome being great
(13:13):
is just a figurment of our imagination, that's all. And
Notre Dames and the grand vision of they have of themselves.
Here's the problem. I want people to understand this, Scott,
that I'll give it to you. But here's the problem.
I want people to know. The acc gave themselves away.
They gave their sons. Okay, we all give our sons away.
They gave their daughters away also to Notre Dame. You
(13:37):
heard the ad let director at Notre Dame. But backwell,
we participate in twenty or so other sports. Guys. Football
is the number one revenue sport period, point blank, and
they don't give up a penny. So for me, Josh
heard you need to call him, slap up out of
his slap your name out of his mouth. I can't
(14:00):
believe he even said that. And the basketball team is
god awful. Also, yeah, you gave us men's basketball. They
haven't been gooding so long. It's been digger Phelps. Stop.
They've had one decent year the almost be Kentucky twenty
seventeen or so. They were decent. They were decent. That's it.
They're awful. You haven't given us anything. Notre Dame hasn't
given the ACC anything. They have cherry picks and the
(14:25):
a SEC allowed it. So everybody that loves all your
old ACC athletic directors and presidents, you need to slap
them too, because they gave into this deal, which was
an awful deal for the ACC. So what happens, Scott,
what transpires is the ACC finally bit the ACC in
(14:48):
the butt when Duke won it with five losses, and
it bit Notre Dame in the butt for cherry picking
bad teams in the ACC. That's all. Yeah, we got
both of them. I just want everybody to understand it
got the league. Yes, we got one team in four
million dollars to split amongst all our schools. Yeah, the
(15:10):
AC the SEC has what five teams got five times
for a million twenty million dollars in each round. It increases.
I want people to understand this is about billions of dollars,
not millions. And I want people to stop being fans
so much and understand the business of this sport. I do.
I've known that when I was saying the AEC needs
(15:30):
to improve. You're a Cat fan. No I'm not. I mean,
I just we're gonna talk about it. Can take you
basketball again yesterday. It's got to change, or they gotta
change coaches. I mean, I sent you a clip, Scott.
I sent a clip to a few of my friends
that Alfred coach Beard sent to me, and it's disgraceful.
They can't play that way or Coach Polk's gotta go.
(15:53):
And we're gonna talk about that later. I don't ever
have to bite my tongue, Scott. I just tell the truth.
So we're here now. Acc all that propaganda. You listen
to them, how good they are? You see that James
Madison and teln are in. Who'll explain that to you
in a second. So, Scott, now we understand Notre Dame
has not ruled the roost. We understand that Notre Dame
(16:13):
hasn't done anything for the ACC. Women's basketball has been
pretty good, Scott, excuse me, I'm sorry, so I don't
get it twisted. Women's basketball has been pretty good. Okay,
for Notre Dame, they've been pretty good. I understand that, guys.
I do no sports guys, but we're still talking about money.
It doesn't mean anything. I'm sorry, be mad at me,
(16:33):
but it doesn't mean anything. What means something is football revenue,
which they've already told the ACC get out of here.
So now you have their athlet director butvecua, oh god,
I just don't know if it can be repaired. I
can't believe that they didn't pull for us all that.
Leg directors need to call that SOB and ask him
(16:55):
directly to his face. Have you shared any of your
NBC revenue with me? Have you helped me put some
new seats in the stadium, pay for some trainers, some
new equipment. He won't even answer their calls. They should
boot him him. Notre Dames are zero. That's the bottom line,
(17:16):
and the a SEC needs to call him up today
and tell him join the conference for a flincher. We're
putting you out and we're not playing you. Then you
have to see where he goes to cherry pick. He'll
be at the American Conference trying to cherry pick James
Madison and those guys. The Big Ten's not letting them
in without football. The SEC is not letting them in
without football. I just want you all to know again,
I want you all to understand the words coming out
(17:39):
of my mouth. Nobody is gonna allow Notre Dame. Nobody.
The Big ten big boys won it the last two years,
and the SEC big boys ever gonna allow them to
be used this way. So please, Josh Hurd, tell him,
don't ever say your name. Slap your name out of
(17:59):
his mouth. Rebecca's full of bunk. I like Friedman, their coach.
He does a great job. He's a brother the African American.
He's my man, got me. I don't care. The ACC
needs to tell them uh blank or get off the pot,
period point blank. They should not accept this at all
(18:21):
ever again, because you see how he's treating you. Now
we've already given him our first given son and our
daughters that we really would die for. We've given them
our daughters, and he's still slapping. I say, you kid
and meet. They're not that important and nobody's watching them.
That was Paul vi Pom. That wasn't Jerry Eves. That
was Paul fine Baum telling everyone, guys, anybody watching Notre
(18:44):
Dame anymore, it's a forest. They watch them, but not
to the level of what they have and what they're
doing to the acc So, Scott, you got any questions
before we go to break about what I have just
explained to people.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Now you know what it sounds like to me that
Notre Dame is the college football version of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
I love that, without a doubts. God, Scott, without a doubt.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Everything you described, I'm like, man, this sounds like the
Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
It's just Scott, I mean, and and everybody the Cowboys
fans will at least admit we want Jerry Jones to go.
He's never gonna sell the team, but we want him
to not Notre Dame. They sit here and just yes.
So last year was in the neighbook. They did a
good job whilst they beat them. I give them credit, okay,
I give Notre.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Dames a little bit more relevant in the rankings and
the cowboys, but they just haven't. They haven't won anything,
and not.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
For what the ACC gives up. Scott, you've given them everything.
I don't know what else. What else he wants? Oh,
I'm not going to give you any of my TV money,
but when it's close, you better pull for me. What what? Oh? Scott?
Let me explain something to people. If Notre Dame would
have gotten in and gotten the four million dollars each
(20:12):
team of the twelve, they weren't splitting it, how many
gods slap him? I might slap that man. I mean
no violence. You'll know I'm playing. But come on, somebody
tell that man. He's come on, Scott, I can't even
believe it's got the things I hear. I can't believe
if Notre Dame would have gotten in the four million
dollars that would have been handed to that conference would
(20:35):
not have come to the ACC. That's all.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
And I'm just so jo I'm a Notre Dame fan.
But in this situation, boy, in this situation, that there's
no way that ACC can can support them getting in
just off off the revenue split. Because now, like we
talked before, if Notre Dame men's basketball is trying to
(21:00):
get make the NCAA tournament, I bet you the ACC
will be pulling for them to get into the tournament.
For basketball, Yes, they because the part of the ACC.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
They would get a segment in basketball, it's segments, more teams,
more segments, more money. Yes, and they would pull for
Notre Dame even though they're so bad. Have been good
since the Kentucky team beat them when they got close
the Kentucky beat them, I mean it had been good.
Since they're awful, I mean they haven't even relevant and all,
come on, let's just be honest, Notre Dame basketball, this
(21:33):
is not John, I.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Know when it comes down to support, the ACC is
going to support teams that are a part of their conference, absolutely,
and Notre data is not a part So.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
They're not a part of football. They're a part of basketball,
and they woul support them, not football, exactly right. So guys,
we're at seven thirty two. We're gonna get it to
the playoffs now. But if there any questions from any
Notre Dame fans, please call me because I'm just gonna
explain to you the money and this is comical. It's
a joke, that's all. You wouldn't do it in your household.
(22:11):
That's all there is to it. You would not do
that if your neighbor conference. You would not tell your
neighbor I'll cut your grass and you never pay me.
Get out of here, please, welcome back to the Sports
Radio seven point thirty six. Guys. It's getting close to Christmas,
that's all that. I know. It's Tuesday, cold outside, but
(22:34):
at least it's not snowing. Scott. We've been a winter
wonderland here in Louisville since you've been gone. It's just
been it's been beautiful, no real traffic problems. But we've
got early snow and it's not even winter time. Scott.
That's a scary thing. I think we're twelve or thirteen
days from true winter. So Scott, I'm throwing it to you.
What do you think about the college football playoffs? The
(22:56):
games that are being played James Madison at Oregon, Alabama
at Oklahoma, Tulane at Ole, miss Miami at Texas, A
and m are the first four games. What do you think?
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Well, I mean the Oregon James Madison game is nobody
needs to talk about that. To Lane ole Miss will
be interesting just on the fact that ole Miss beat
them forty five to ten early on in the season. Now,
(23:31):
Lank Lane Kiffin is no longer there, you know.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Good.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
What I what I will say about Lane Kiffin is
he allowed his staff that he brought to LSU with
him to go back to ole Miss.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
And coach them.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Yes, so I will give him credit for that as
all I'm giving credit for.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
But he did do that, Scott.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
I want to give him right, right, So that's a
good thing that he did to allow his guys to
go back and enjoy this playoff run because it's gonna
be tough at LSU to get there.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Even though you know LSU is the story program, it's
still gonna be tough.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
So I agree.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
But you know, it'll be interesting to see how this
game plays out because I'm sure Tulane is a better
program right now than they were when they first met.
You've got a lot of film to watch. I'm sure
most of the strategy that ole Miss had back then
won't change, So it'll be really interesting to see how
(24:32):
this game plays out. When your head coach isn't there.
It's always a different feel when the assistant coaches are
running the program. So it'll be really interesting to see
if the ole Miss players are going to look past this.
They should win, I mean, I don't doubt that by
any stretch, but it's will it be a much better
game than it was in week four, So that'll be
(24:57):
interesting game.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Yeah, Miami game will be. I think Texas A and
m wins that pretty easily. So you know then, I
mean once we get down to the quarterfinals, then we'll
start to get some really good games. Oklahoma Alabama will
be a dogfighter.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Oh that's a real game. Eight and nine is always
four and five in conference place got eight and nine.
That's going to be a really good game. So everyone
understands lething explained to him. If the ACC was any
good at all, guys and Duke did not win the
ACC Football League with five losses, we wouldn't have two teams.
(25:41):
We would not have Tulane and James Madison in just
so you understand, the ACC champion would have taken one
of the slots that these teams have. There would only
be one of them. So everybody that's uproar, how do
we have to How did it happen? It's because the
ACC is awful. That's why, guys. If Virginia would have won,
(26:04):
Virginia would have gotten into the colleg football playoffs. I
think Miami would have got bumped. God, the ACC did
not deserve two teams. I think Miami would have got bumped.
That was what they were waiting to see, honestly, because
it's set up for the conference champions, Big ten, SEC,
Big twelve, ACC conference champion automatically gets in if you're
(26:28):
any good at all. But Duke was ranked behind James
Madison and Tulane, so they could not force them in.
That's all, guys. They couldn't, So that's why we have two.
So when everybody's sitting around, how can that be? That's
so unfair to Texas. I agree, notre Dame, Okay, I
agree Vanderbilt. I agree. It is because the ACC let
(26:51):
the other leagues down. Period. So now my opinion, I
think Oregon rolls. Of course, I watched It's so funny.
James Madison came to Louisville. Louisvill beat them twenty eight fourteen.
James Madison did move the ball. Guys, I was at
the game. You were able to run the ball. They
had a few trick plays, but Louisville handled them pretty easily.
(27:13):
Twenty eight fourteen at Hot Okay, Scott, it's a night game.
If I remember correctly, I think it was a night game.
I was also at the Louisville Miami game, and Louisville
handled them easily. I'm being honest with you, s guy.
Miami did not, as you well know, you were at
the game with me. I pressed me at all. They
just did not. Guys in person, Miami show Mike Irvin
(27:37):
giving me flak about how they're gonna roll over us
standing by the Howard Sellenberger statue, and what truly happened
was completely different. They did not impress me. Louisville took
care of Miami. So Louisville beat two of the top
twelve teams. Does that say Louisville's great? Louisville was okay
(27:57):
this year? Everybody is disappointed this year's. See, they did
have an opportunity to put themselves truly in this year's
but we see what happened. Over had an opportunity, did
not seize that opportunity. And I mean and coach Crumb
the only time I say he said dang it, but
he says he did not. He probably didn't. The UCLA
(28:19):
game Scott in nineteen eighty halftime, he told us sometimes
you gotta seize the moment. You can't let it. Of course,
the seventy sixteen junior Bridgeman's team, which is being honored,
did not seize the moment, but he told us, he says, guy,
sometimes it's supposed to be AOST championship. We're better than
they are. We just weren't playing poorly. I was on
Scott as a player. I swear I thought I was
(28:40):
the only one that was playing like a dog until
I got to watch the tape. I mean, forty years later.
We were all, I mean, I was missing layups, riding
Ray was grabbing offensive rebounds, missing labs. We all were
playing port The coach Drumb said, you have to seize
it sometimes. This was Louis was year that they needed
to seize the moment. They did not. Might not get
this opportunity again. You might not ever see James Madison
(29:01):
and Tulane to the College Football Playalfs every year. So
now that's the only issue I've seen lot will beat
both teams. I'm not impressed with either one Miami or
James Madison. I have not watched Tulane in person, so
I'm not going to make an evaluation on them. Ole
Miss will beat them easy and then the real games wigin,
but we will. Those are the four games of the contests,
(29:25):
and there will be an NFL game next week, Scott,
there will be five, and it'll be the toughest NFL
game to pick. Will be the five games for next
week for of our contests. As we well know, County Country, Commonwealth, Dodge,
and they're having a great seal. Guys, Billy's not telling
me to tell you he's having a great seal. I'm
telling you Billy's a great guy. Chuck Kane good tell
(29:48):
he's the smoothest year manager in the car business. It's
got to say. If I was a I'll be yelling
at the salespeople. I'm an old herb Vine guy, just
like my team. I'm a yeller and a screamer. Herb
Vine was a yeller, a screamer. Got me. Name's Chuck Kane.
He's the coolest, smoothest guy you'll ever run. Scott, I
came back. I'm like, you're just too nice, billy. You
(30:11):
might need to let me come in there sometimes and
just you know, just stir things up, let me yell
and scream. No car business. So anyway, go by and
see them though. So Scott's seven forty four, we're gonna
go to break come back. We're gonna talk about the
Louisville Indiana game. And it's pertinent because Kentucky must beat
Indiana Saturday at rup. Scott is a must win. Oh
(30:35):
there is too. Eve Sports Radio. We'll talk to you
all after the break. Welcome back to Eves Sports Radio
seven forty seven. You need to be there at eight.
You need to be moving slowly, be moving though, but
you need to be getting on your way. I got
the one and only Scott bow Waite shanding behind the glass.
It is a it's a little sleepy Tuesday. That's all
sleepy Tuesday. Stayed up watching the NFL. Poor Eagles everywhere, Scott,
(31:00):
I think, boy, the NFL, the script has flipped. The
traditional powers are struggling a little bit, and new teams
are emerging. Hey, it's a lot of fun being honest
with you. You don't know what's going to happen, so
we have to continue watching it. But Scott, you missed
the Kentucky game against Gonzaga, but you know a lot
about I sent you the highlight clip that Coach Beard
(31:21):
sent me that I sent you a few Kentucky fans.
I wanted to get their opinion, and Scott, it wasn't good.
Now that you've got a chance to watch it. What
did you think of the cli that I sent you?
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Man, it does not look good at all, you know.
And we talked about this where you have to recruit
the right players. You know, you have to recruit the
right players that fit what you want to and how
you can coach the big names, the big you know, stats, highlights,
(31:57):
everything may not be what you can handle as a coach.
You know, We've been doing this a long time in
the coaching business, and it's hard. If you have to
coach effort, you're you're in trouble. And right now it's
looking like he has to coach effort and because of that,
(32:20):
he's it's gonna be a rough year for him.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
I don't know why.
Speaker 5 (32:26):
Around last year's team though, Brea Butler Williams, they played
so hard. Oh take a alway they played so hard
last year, Scott, they played through all the injuries. They
played hard. For the clip that I sent you when
guys won't even sprint back on defense.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
Amazing. What has transpired so quickly? What happened? Do you
think though? Why?
Speaker 2 (32:53):
And it goes to a couple of years ago. They
interviewed Danny Hurley at Yukon and he goes through this
long process of recruiting players and he has like they
have to fit a certain mold. They can't be He
called them, like, you know, the culture killers, where one
(33:16):
player can kill your program. And we we went through
that when we were coaching Ada and t. I thought,
I've told you this. You recruit one bad one bad apple,
and you get some kids who are on the fence,
whether good or bad, where they're just kind of right
in the middle, and that one bad apple can say
they have enough power, have enough personality where they can
(33:38):
start getting in one player's ear, and they get in
the two, then they get into three and coach doesn't
know what he's talking about. Yeah, you know what, you're right,
I don't. I don't like what he's doing. And now
you're you're starting to see this. So when you start,
you recruit talent over character or perceive talent over character.
(34:01):
This is what you're going to get if you're not
recruiting the right kids that fit what you want. And
maybe Pope doesn't know what he wants, you.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Know.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I think he did a good handle on everything at
b YU, but again b YU and SEC. Could he
recruit the same kids that he was recruiting at b
YU and win in the SEC? I think he gets
caught in that I have.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
To recruit the right That's why he didn't. He didn't
bring Khalifa right. Khalifa's playing for Louisville and he played
for coach Book at BYU, and Coach Bulk did not
bring him to the SEC. I think he understood that
last first got here. I think he gets Kentucky job,
if you want to say, relatively late, not really late,
relatively late in the basketball spectrum. And he went out
(34:56):
and found great guys. I told people when he brought Butler,
I told everyone pit Bull, you're gonna love him everything
about him, bring a same way. But he got a
lot of those guys late Scott who got them late
in the recruiting process. So it's funny that he was
able to fall in perfect people for his personality. Last year,
(35:17):
I was at the press conference Scott, and I mean,
they fit like a glove. He and his team. This
year's team does not. And that's a fact. Everyone's throwing
out these crazy figures about how much Kentucky spent and
I just don't know. I've heard that twenty two million. Okay.
I was the one complaining when they said we could
not find out through the Opens Record Act how much
(35:40):
these players were making. I want to know. I'm glad
they're making the money. Guys, I'm glad they're making the money.
I just want to know what they make. Now, once
you pay them, we should know. That's all there is
to it. Oh hiding, so that we would know if
this twenty two million is an accurate figure on what
they pay this year's team. But the effort is not there.
Yesterday I had George Williams on with me, and who's
(36:03):
talking about, well, they can leave and go somewhere else.
And I'm telling you, as a coach, if a player
does not give effort at the University of Kentucky, don't
think I'm getting ready to open up my pocketbook at
the level that he's making at Kentucky to bring into
my school, you got to be crazy. If he's not
gonna play hard at Kentucky, he's not gonna play hard.
(36:25):
I don't care what one says. That level is expected
that they play hard and Kentucky is not. So they've
got North Carolina Center. Of course we play one of
our tribals. They've got them, which no wind easily, which
will make them six and four. Then they have Indiana. Scott.
Here's the only to do with Indiana. Not super talented,
(36:47):
but Scott. They're gonna play hard and they're gonna play
Big ten basketball, and it's gonna be physical. I went
to the Louisville game in Indianapolis. Physical Scott. They're gonna
bump and grind. They're not super skilled, they're not bad now,
Scott move one eighty seven, seventy eight. But they're gonna
(37:09):
play hard and they're gonna bang bodies. Scott and a
lot of people don't understand physicality. A lot of player players.
If you're not bought in, you don't want physicality. That's
the one thing you do not want. People don't seem
to understand that I'm scared of talent. I'm scared of
No teams are scared of Michigan States because they know
(37:30):
they're gonna do the one thing. They're gonna bang bodies,
and Indiana's gonna bang Kentucky's bodies. In my opinion, it's
a must win. I think Kentucky, in my opinion, wins
by twelve thirteen. A lot of people say nah, but
I do. I think Kentucky will take care of business.
I'm still waiting to see Kentucky completely healthy. But Shannon
(37:53):
did say yesterday they're thirty percent through their season, and
he is correct. By the time they get to the
Saint John's game, guys, everyone wants to be forty percent
through their season. They're gonna have to start turning this
thing around. So this Indiana, then Saint John's next week.
I think Kentucky fans are waiting on needles and pins
(38:14):
to see what transpires. The Saint John's game will be
a very good game, as we well know. That's another
good game that they will be challenged. Coach Patino's team
is going to challenge them again. Full court press. For
people that don't know, teams that get after you ninety
four feet is a physicality. They may not be touching you,
(38:36):
but they are working. You watch most games, you throw
the ball in bounds, someone scores against you, your player
takes the ball out of bounds, he throws it in,
and you walk the ball up half court and then
you start to play teams back up. That's not going
to happen in the Saint John's game. He's gonna be
after him ninety four feet, which again is physicality. So Scott,
(38:58):
I'll talk to you tomorrow. We'll get into some other
things that are going on transpiring and sports, and I'm
going to send you all of the games that we'll
talk about that the opening show up. I'll send you
all the games today. Appreciate you should a great job.
Like always, guys, you all take care, be safe out there,
and God willing, I'll be back tomorrow. Bye bye
