Welcome to our two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
All right, welcome back. It is our number two Kentucky
Sports Radio, Ryan Drew and Shannon. We're live on the
patio ks Bar and Grill. Just had a great interview
with Archie Goodwin. Because it's TVT week with the guys
on the TVT team, kind of come individually and get
a talk to them. But for the second time, Drew
in their UK basketball career, the Twins are back. They
came back for their sophomore season at Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Your time, third bag last year, it came true.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
It came back now for the TVT second time with
the TVT guys. So Andrew and Aaron Harrison join us now,
So welcome back, guys. I guess you enjoyed it. We'll
start with you, Andrews, and you enjoyed it so much
last year you wanted to be a part of it
again this year. What was your thought processing coming back?
Speaker 5 (01:40):
Definitely, I just enjoyed being around the guys, being in
the facilities, being in the licensing, uh, being uner player
in front of the the Kentucky fans.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
That was the best part. Being under player.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
My brother gave them the same team, so all that
went into one to be able to come back and
try to try to win the championship this year.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Yeah, Aaron, after you all did one, did you have
kind of commit right away? Do you have the whole
year to look forward to it. What's the excitement like
now that you've figured out what it is and you
know what you're getting into.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
Oh yeah, I mean we're super excited just to get
back out there and and now we know what it
takes a little more, So we're gonna.
Speaker 6 (02:14):
Go out there.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
And I think we have a big advantage just being
mature and and having that one year under our belt,
and this year we're gonna have the same We're gonna
have a full group the whole time. So I think
we're just gonna, you know, take a game by game.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
When you hear last year Andrew you got, were you Uh?
I don't think surprised is the right word, but little
stunned to see there was support and the love that
you guys got and did that play a factor and
you guys wanted to come back and run it back again.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Honestly, I wasn't even that surprised. I just, you know,
you forget because I didn't come back at all since
I left school.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
So you forget how how.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
Much you know how much they they love basketball, could
take it basketball here. So when you get here, you
like remember like, okay, yeah this is this is crazy,
this is serious. But nah, at the games, I kind
of got a feeling once we had like an autograph
signing and stuff that all the fan's gonna come and
show and support us a lot.
Speaker 6 (03:12):
So it was it was a no brainer. Really.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Last year you all, the highlight was in Louisville, and
forgive me, I was a littleing cussed. If my details
are off here, I got assaulted there. But I remember saying,
this is the part where I always hits it, and
I was talking about Aaron hitting the game winner, and
then Andrew hits the elam ending. Was there any like,
what the hell, man, that's my shot? Any brother? Jealousy
there was? Was it his turn? How did that work
(03:38):
out where Andrew finally got his chance to call game?
Speaker 7 (03:41):
Nah?
Speaker 5 (03:42):
I mean there's definitely no jealousy. Of course he had
it going. It was a great shot, great play. So
you know this type of stuff, you just you know,
you just want to win. There's nothing, definitely no jealousy.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
How to feel to do that in Louisville. That that
atmosphere was insane there in Freedom Hall. You being the
road team, definitely that was fun.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
Man.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
You can't even imagine playing a game like that average
during the summertime.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
It was just crazy.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yah.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
There's a lot of red in there. Was a little
bit of blue, but there's a lot of red in there.
So they were they booed us and stuff, which made
me small. That may be smile them booing us when
we ran on the court and everything, I mean shot
was was good. Blood made the play, got it to
me and I was able to make it, so it
was pretty cool. I got he just saved us so
many times, so at least I could do it one time.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
You know, you old him one. Do you like the
elam inning? Had you ever done that before? Was that
the first time playing there?
Speaker 5 (04:36):
With It's okay, you know, it's okay when you win
and when you lose, like I wish I had the
rest of the game, but I mean it's okay. It's
definitely a way for our teams not to just hold
the ball or keep it exciting, you know, So it's cool.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Aaron, I gotta ask you when you're back in Lexington
or back in Kentucky. How many times a day do
people ask you about the shot against Wisconsin or Louisville, Michigan.
It's got to come up every single day you're here.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
Oh yeah, of course all the time.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
Like that's probably the first thing that people ask, yeah, like, oh,
how was this shot? Like how did it feel after?
Like or they say what they were doing when, I
when when it happened. So that's something that's like, you know, priceless.
So it's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
And we even asked you here during the break which
one of the shots was one that kind of curved in.
It was the Michigan shot that kind of somehow magically
curved in and went in.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
I mean, I think it was a Michigan I think
I got it. I got a little create, I got
a little touch on the hand of thinks too, Okay.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Got a four point play there.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
Yeah, but yeah it dropped.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
So yeah, thank god you get asked about that so much,
including us right now. We even asked you when you
first walked up. Sure this's a fun Kentucky memory. That
wasn't one of your ten buzzer beaters you had. Surely
there was a game or another moment that other people.
We can remember you for something else too, because right
now I said during the break, the four of us
will be long gone and generations down the road we'll
(06:02):
still be talking about there in Harrison shots.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
Uh yeah, So probably a memory besides that, probably, like
m I mean, my first Big Blue Madness was kind
of crazy, Like I think that that had a big
impact on me, like just experiencing that, and then I
feel I think I went to someone else's like whatever
they call it similar and it wasn't even it wasn't close.
(06:28):
So this is going to that that was just pretty cool,
and that's something I all always remember just being in
high school and that having a big impact on me.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
And you've carried the team several teams several times yourself,
just not the buzzer beaters that he had. Did you
have a favorite moment or a game that you really
think fondly of looking back?
Speaker 6 (06:47):
I know, the which ISA State game my fresh Mirror
was fun.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
That was probably like the best game that I played
in while I was here in terms of going back
and forth and just competition.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
So that was like a very memorable game, even.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Though it was kind of early in the tournament, but
we were actually the underdogs in that game. Yeah, and
I don't know, we figured out a way to win.
So that was a pretty cool moment. Louisville my freshman
year was a good game. We were underdogs in that
game as well. We ended up winning. There's so many
any game that you win, I mean, but you remember
(07:22):
the losses too. You remember the criticism of all the
scrutiny that me and him took. So, I mean, you
you become men, like at the end of the day,
we became men here. You able to take the good
and the bad. Gotta be able to have tough skin
and not really care what other people say. So yeah,
it's I mean, you become a man whether you want
(07:44):
to or not. So it's it was funny. I wouldn't
trade it for anything.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
You guys talked about that last year when you were here.
Archie Goodwin just got up. He kind of went through
some things when he was here. Yesterday we had Khalil Whitney.
He had some things when he was here, and all
three of you kind of said the same thing. Helps
you grow up as a man, not necessary as a
basketball player, but helps you grow up as a person.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
I mean, yeah, because everybody's not gonna go on to
make five hundred million dollars in playing in the NBA
for twenty years. It just don't happen like that. So
you gotta what kind of man are you gonna be?
And you're gonna figure it out. Are you gonna complain
and worry about what else, what somebody else got or
what somebody else doing. So we always been like that.
We never worry about what anybody else got going on.
We're just trying to be the best us.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
So got anything back to that?
Speaker 8 (08:28):
Aaron?
Speaker 5 (08:29):
Now, of course, I mean that's just a part of
a part of coming here, part of our college careers.
It was just you know, ups and downs, and you
just become you become tough. Like you said, you have
tough skin, and you learn not to let what other
(08:52):
people say or do bother you really because we're gonna
do it anyway.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
It is what it is.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
So let's get back to the present day with law
of me. Oh, you're you're the point guard. What's her
team looking like this year? Look some back, some new changes.
Did you have any saying the roster and you're liking
what they have there?
Speaker 6 (09:09):
I never have any say in the roster. Don't it's
not that's not my job.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
But now we look great, man, we look great on defense,
especially on defensive end. We got a lot of switchable parts.
We can go one through one through twelve or eleven.
I think that we have everybody on the team can play.
Everyone's gonna stay committed and play the whole time. So
I think we'll be fine. It's a tough field that
(09:33):
we that that we have. It's like a you're a
pretty good bracket and stuff like that. But if we
play together, play defense, I think we'll be fine and
we're gonna we're gonna finish it off this year, hopefully.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Everyone we've talked to has said defense. This sounds like
we're gonna have some unders Ryan, I think, is this
is this the message behind the scene with the coaches,
Just defense, defense, defense.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
I mean, you know, and in a tournament like this,
it's all about it's about defense. No one's gonna come
in there and play like and no one is gonna
be such an offensive, fluid team in a week or so.
But there will be talented players on every team, but
you just can't let one player beat you. And I
think that we have I think we have a team
(10:17):
that it would be pretty tough for a player in
this tournament to beat us by itself.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
So last season, when you got to it was the
expectation kind of what you thought of just the competition
and the level of play would be. We're kind of
coming in not knowing what you're expecting. Did you feel
like it met your expectations? Were people better than what
you thought?
Speaker 6 (10:35):
I mean.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
No, I mean, if I'm being honest, it's not. I
still don't feel like too many people are like better
than me individually. So like in this tournament, we all
look at we can look at it like that, like,
oh no, none of these guys are individually better than us.
But if we put it together, it's like it's like amazing.
(10:59):
It's like something that that we don't have to do,
but we're doing it just because we want to sacrifice
for each other. So, you know, no one is gonna
get a contract out of scoring thirty, especially not on
our team. No one's gonna really gain anything individually by
going off in that in the TBT, So we all
know that, we know that the goal is to win.
(11:20):
So that's the best part and what makes it fun.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
We had some of the guys say that the relationships
they built with last year's team UK team kind of
led them to follow the team more last year. Did
you either one of you guys like follow the team
a little more last year because you kind of knew
these guys, He'd worked out against these guys and maybe
develop a relationship with any of the guys.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
I think. I, I mean, I feel like I did
have a little bit more of a relationship. I did
kind of like check them out, check on it a
little more than I Yeah, just because I did get
to see them up close. I saw him in the summer,
so it was just different, you know, it was it
was kind of different.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
So it's pretty.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
Cool to come back and see see the team and
it has a different it has a different, different feel. Yeah, yeah,
you agree, Andrew, Yeah, absolutely, just being around the guys,
even coach Pope being new, wanted to check it out,
seeing how they look. But even this year, I'll probably
check them out even more and more, just because I
(12:25):
know a couple a couple of kids on the team
just from Houston, and they just seem like it's intriguing.
It's like you don't really know if they're gonna be
who they're gonna be. I'm not saying. I mean they
look good yesterday, but you know, you never know who's summertime,
so it's interesting to see how good they can get.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
You mentioned the connection you all know Jalen Low. He's
new to Kentucky fans. What do you think everybody's getting
out of the new point guard that came in from
pitt Man.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
At first, he's a great kid, come from good parents
and everything like that. Man, he was a little kid,
like he's a little kid. He showed me a picture
yesterday he was at David Bunchet. He's like a little
kid and I was like, oh man, I feel real old.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
But now. I mean he's a hard worker.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
I mean his dad had him in basketball all his life,
around basketball his life, so I mean, I think he'll
do well here. He works hard, he's a leader, has
some toughness, so he just got to keep working. I
talked to him yesterday, gave him a few pointers and
he'll be just fine.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
He did he reach out when he was considering Kentucky
in the portal? Did you all have any conversations before
he got to Leccident? Or is just now you're walking
hi through it that he's here.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
No, no, no, I feel like, you know, everybody got
to make that decision on their own, Like everyone's a different,
different situation. College basketball is way different now than when
I was picking, so it's a different mindset.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
So nah, I didn't. I didn't.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
I didn't get to talk to him about that. But
I got to talk to him yesterday, and we did
an interview earlier this week together, so I was able
to talk to him. He was able to ask me
some questions and stuff too.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
So, and you mentioned yesterday, we're not really allowed to
talk much about it, but there seemed to have been
a gathering yesterday with you got and the other guys.
What's your takeaway from that, Aaron?
Speaker 5 (14:05):
It was it was fun. I mean, I think that
they they're they're a good it's a it's a good group.
It's an athletic group. I think that the SEC will
be fun to watch this year. They I mean, they
obviously have like a leader and they have I mean,
(14:27):
they have a leader and coach pope, so I think
I think they'll be fine in the SEC. I think
they need to make sure they're physical enough. We were
a little physical with them yesterday and They definitely fought
back with that, so that was a good sign. So
I think that's the main thing. Like SEC basketball is
pretty physical, so that's probably what people are wondering when
(14:49):
when a bunch of new guys come in and can
they handle the SEC? Can they can? They do that
every every week, but I think that they responded to
us pretty well. So this week.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Makes it easy for you all to interact with Pope
and the team. I mean you're in the same building
over there. But beyond TBT, I think Pope's done a
good job reaching out to alumni. We hear stories of
some other guys, you know, pictures with them. It's offered
up the gym to anyone. Do you all feel like
Pope's doing a good job of keeping everyone all all together?
Speaker 5 (15:15):
He definitely, He definitely leaves Blue for sure, like he
loves it. He loves being here. He from what I
see every day, he seems like he's grateful and he
puts us on every day. So you can't ask for
much more out of a coach. I mean, winning a
tournament it's a one game thing out so you can't
really judge judge someone like that, even though you know
that's what we do. That's you you have to do.
(15:36):
But yeah, I mean I think he's a right man
for the job. Can't really put it in no other words,
perfect guy for the job.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Well, listen, we really enjoy visiting you guys again. Kind
of cool to catch up, kind of cool you see
you come back. I mean you're still wearing your Kentucky
stuff when you come in and talk to us and all.
That's pretty cool. You got two events coming up I
want to talk about. One is the one tonight Bourbon
Barrel Bourbon Bottles signing out of Burbon Barrel Burbo Bourbon
bottle signing that Bespoken Spirits at Great Line Station. The
whole teams will be down there right signing the bottle.
(16:05):
And then you got another event a week from Saturday,
July twenty sixth for the Scott County Humane Society.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
So I guess long as you guys keep winning, you'll
stay here and you can you get some some opportunity
people come out and talk to you, right for sure.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
Definitely be excited about that.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Definitely, So see him tonight at the Bespoken Spirits in
a week from Saturday for the scot kint of He
may sound this guys, thanks a lot man, good catching
up with you again. Best of luck to you this week.
This weekend, you guys try to go out and win
the title now, so sir, definitely Andrew and Harrison, Andrew
and Aaron Harrison, the Harrison Twins back in town for
the second time running it back. We're right back. Wrap
it up here a little bit more on Kataking Sports Radio.
(16:38):
All right, welcome back to Taking Sports Radio. Ryan Drew
and Shannon here live on the patio at KOs Bar
and Grill with are redoing the floors inside now, so
we'll be back opening about a month. But who's this segment?

Speaker 2 (17:32):
How do you thank you? Shannon?
Speaker 4 (17:34):
I was on the DraftKings app heavily last night, made
my big deposit for college football to.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Say, what were you betting on last night?
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Now, well we got we got the open British Open
started at one fifty one am this morning. Had to
get those in, but they had a deposit offer, came
with some bonuses I had. I was gonna put in
a small deposit. I put in a very big deposit,
so I'm ready to go for.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Football college football season, bring it up. But I was.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
I was all over the apple last night.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
I think we're witnessing something kind of special with these
TBT interviews for the third time now, we've had guys
that went through some struggles and issues here and are
now kind of talking through it. Khalil Whitney yesterday, Archie
and the Twins today. You can kind of feel their
pain a little bit and like it's been good therapy
for them. I think, to talk about it.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
Absolutely, I've been an Archie defender for a long time.
Love Archie that I'm not saying that because any of
my fandom. That's probably the best answer we've had from
any player to any question in any interview ever. I mean,
he was completely open.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
That's why I didn't we just let him go. Yeah,
you could, you could see him, you could hear it.
We had to just let him go.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
And just the level of detail in the back he
was going player by player and how they were used,
should have been used, how injuries affected them. I mean,
leave aside him personally, he just did a great job
explaining just how that whole season went, the struggles they
had as a team, let alone what he was going
through himself. Thinking he's be used in a different role sham.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
People were like text me, like, I want to give
Archie a hug after he left here.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
I mean there's there's a lot of you know, a
lot of love that these guys. I think maybe we'll
fill in this TBT tournament that maybe they didn't you know,
necessarily feel when they were players here exactly welcoming them back.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
You know.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
It was always a lot of fun to see.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
And Archie's gonna get buckets. He was like one of
the leading scorers last year for that Eberlian Drive team.
He's watch Archie this weekend.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
When you saw him, did you not think he was
still eighteen years old. He looks like he's eighteen years old,
which he's good. These guys are all thirty years old,
close to thirty years old.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
Man.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
You know they're getting up an agent. I think they
want to get back to what they their love for
UK want to feel it again.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
That's one of my biggest takeaways having covered all of
these guys since Cal's first year. Like in, Archie comes
here and he's eighteen, and like any of them, they're
right out of high school. They're shy, you know, they're
kind of giving two word answers maybe a full sentence.
You're not getting a lot out of them. They've been
media trained. Now we're talking to thirty year old versions
of those guys and grown men. Yeah, just having real
(20:05):
good conversations about how it went. It's almost like we're
I mean it's not almost. We're getting them in a
different part of their life, a lot more mature and
have a lot more to say about how it went.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
But in a little bit though, even with the Twins,
they talk about the struggles they went through, they go
right back to that moment and you could see and
hear that they still feel that when they were eighteen, nineteen,
twenty years old and they were here.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
And for people that only hear this and don't keep
up with La Familiar on social media and all the
stuff that's going on this week, it is really cool
to see how much fans embrace these guys. Whether it's
at a restaurant one night, or the bottle signing tonight,
or over at the road show. Whatever they're doing is
they're getting the same love that they were getting when
(20:45):
they were showing up for games as college kids.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
And I think that's why a lot of these guys
have come back, will eat the Twins. Some of these
guys come back and run it back again because of
exactly what you just said.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
A lot of the ones you mentioned. You know, Andrews
said himself he didn't get to come back from the
moment he left. Yeah, they've been playing proker. They're just
slowly reaching the end of theirs. Then through TBT, they're
all able to come back. We haven't. We haven't seen
Archie in person probably since the Robert Morris game in Pittsburgh.
So it was really good catching up with all of them.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Well, I think he said that. He said, uh. When
that game was over, he immediately left and has not
come back, but he wanted to be a part of it.
Last year signed with somebody else and made it a
point to come back and play again this year to
be be a feel a part of the BBN family again.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
And we're long past this, but when Pope first got hired,
there was the concern of the cow guys would they
be all in? Now that has been proven a hundred
times over at this point. But these are just more examples.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
And I think Pope taking the guy his current team
last year to the TBT tournament had him sitting on
the in the end zone, taking him to Louisville to
watch him play Louisville. I think that kind of added
to that look where we want you guys to feel
as much part of this family as we feel about
you guys.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
Yeah, Aaron said, you know, I'm checking on a little
more than I would normally. I mean, in this coming year.
They have the jailing connection that we got into a
little bit. But that story has been written several times
about how when he first got here he mentioned having
connections to them. I think maybe Darren Fox connection all
these Texas guards we keep getting here in Lexington.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Now, before we go to a break, we got a
couple other guys we're going to finish up with. But
I do want to tell you today is the anniversary
of an awful day in Lexington history. This is the
day that Trent Degerro got murdered by Shane Raglan July seventeenth.
And there's a new documentary out that I watched it
and it's awesome. I mean, people that know around here
know the story and it's on it's called A Killer
(22:36):
among Friends and it's on HBO. It's like six different
episodes and the Trent dezero episode is episode number one
A Killer among Friends on HBO. If you remember the story.
I'm sure people around here they know the story. It's
the officer Don Evans, is Antonio O'Farrell, some of the
guys that were involved in it. It's kind of a
new fresh look at what happened that night. I mean
(22:58):
the house is still over there off campus, you know,
still the paint of the same pale color blue. I mean,
everybody knows around here knows that house. So I just
wanted to mention that that this new documentary on One
Party is out now, Killer among Friends.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
I have to watch that. They did a dayline episode.
I remember watching that. That's how I learned most of
what I know about it because I wasn't really following
at the time, but yeah, didn't realize that. Thanks Sharon.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
All right, well take our break, come back. We got
three more guys. DJ Burns, Karam Canter, and Mark Ouise Warwick.
Lexington's own coming back to talk to us.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Right back.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
He'll make them pay now more of Kentucky Sports Radio
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 8 (23:35):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
All right, welcome back, Ryan Drew and Shann Here Kentucky
Sports Radio live on the patio Chaos Bar and Grill
for TBT week. They play tomorrow nights. We've been rotating
like musical chairs, drew different players. We had a couple
of guys coming yesterday, a couple of guys today. We
got three more. Now we got Karm Canter and we
got DJ Burns. DJ's kind of the new kid on
the block. We'll get him in a minute. But Caarm,
you're coming back for a second second season after you
(23:58):
guys had a good run last year. What made you
want to come back and do it again this year?
Speaker 9 (24:02):
Yeah, I'm excited to running back. You know, last year
it was an unbelievable experience playing three games here in Kentucky,
here in front of Kentucky fans at rapp Arena. You know,
they embraced me. They call me an honorary alumni.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (24:16):
So it was a fun experience. You know, we got
the final four. I felt like we played well for
the most part. This year, we have you know, a
different team, you know, deeper, more youth, I would say. So,
I'm excited to be back, Excited to play with these
guys and get us started on Friday.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Well, Let's talk about those fans embracing you, because I'm
one of them. I tried to try to find some
of your jerseys online. I became such a fan. How
cool was that?
Speaker 8 (24:41):
You know?
Speaker 4 (24:42):
I think there were only two players on the team
that weren't former Kentucky players. You probably a little shot
coming in, and then Kentucky fans just treated you like
you had played at UK. Was that expected at all?
Did your brother warn you that was coming?
Speaker 7 (24:54):
No, it's not expected at all.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
You know.
Speaker 9 (24:56):
I was talking to DJ about this yesterday. Throughout the season,
I was getting more love from Kentucky fans than any
other school that I played for.
Speaker 7 (25:04):
You know, it was a really cool experience.
Speaker 9 (25:06):
You know, I've watched my brother Obviously he didn't get
to play here, but I watched his season here and
I saw how crazy the fans can get here. So
it was a cool experience. I'm definitely looking forward to,
you know, getting that type of love for me and
my team as well.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
So when your brother was here, did you come physically
to a game at Roperena or to Lectington at all?
When he was here.
Speaker 9 (25:28):
I came to a game. I came to a game
when they played Tennessee. You know, it was unbelieving experience.
You know, I got to watch guys like Brandon and I,
Terrence Jones, Droon Lamb put on the show. You know,
my brother was just sitting on the sideline. You know,
it sucked and not having him play, but you know
it was really cool, you know, watching a game. I
think I was at the time, fifteen or sixteen years old,
(25:50):
my first year coming to America. So I'm like, if
they have that type of love for college basketball, you know,
it's cool.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
DJ. We heard over the wain and you had a
quite a game. I wasn't there to watch it, but
did you just let it all out on these guys
and the screw? Fifty points?
Speaker 7 (26:07):
Is this?
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Was that an accurate number?
Speaker 8 (26:09):
Yeah? Yeah, it was fifty.
Speaker 10 (26:11):
I actually got encouraged by a lot of the guys
to get back in and score the last four points.
I was off a second half most of the part.
But nah, I just got a lot of love. I
just had fun, you know, that's all it was about.
Give it back to the community. Being a people's person,
you know, it's definitely important to me. So you know,
I wanted to give the community a show. A lot
of the guys, you know that we were a little rusty,
(26:31):
you know, just getting off of planes and stuff like that,
so somebody had to you know, put on a little
bit of a show. So nah, I just was really
more pleased and happy that the guys were, you know,
really encouraging of it.
Speaker 8 (26:42):
It made me feel comfortable right off the rips.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
So yeah, and you're one of the guys like him
that didn't actually play UK, but you have Kentucky connections.
Played to Murray. If you heard from some Racers fans
that are following you now that you're back representing the Bluegrass.
Speaker 8 (26:54):
Yeah, most definitely.
Speaker 10 (26:55):
Honestly, I was a little bit of nervous, you know,
Murray staying in Kentucky doesn't have the best relationship.
Speaker 8 (27:00):
But I got a lot of love from both communities,
you know.
Speaker 10 (27:04):
Mary State fans actually hit me up today and I said,
they're going to be at the game and they'll love
to take pictures and hug and stuff like that. So
I'm not It's always good to come back to, you know,
Kentucky on which I feel like is home for me
and uh and play for a beautiful cottage like University
of Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
It's not all beef between the two. I'm from Western Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
I like both.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
One of our employees went to Murray's, so we like
the Razors and the cat. It's glad to have you
on the team this week.
Speaker 8 (27:26):
Was definitely, man, I'm happy to be here.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
Man.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
So not not only do you have the Murray State connection,
you played for Shawn Woods at Southern Yeah, so you
got that connection now then.
Speaker 10 (27:35):
It was definitely was definitely Yeah. A great guy you
know on the court. You know, he definitely knows the stuff. Experience,
you know, in his legacy from UK carries, you know,
he knows what he's doing. So you know, we're having
him on the coaching staff, especially as the head coaching
made it a lot more comfortable to come to play,
you know, for UK alumni and UH and to be
a part of the journey because I believe these guys
are one of the best teams last year. So hopefully
(27:56):
I'm one of the secret recipes to get it done
this year.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Have you had a moment yet where you're like, Sean,
I'm not in college anymore, I'm not really on your team.
I'm not gonna run right now. I'm getting older, I'm
catching my breaths. It's still He's just still the coach
and you're you're you're locked in on whatever he's telling
you to do.
Speaker 8 (28:11):
Well. I mean, that's one thing I love about Woods.
Speaker 10 (28:13):
You know, he's never gonna change, oh, no matter you
know how old he gets on where he at, you know,
no matter what.
Speaker 8 (28:17):
That's how I was, and I love him for that,
you know.
Speaker 10 (28:20):
So you know, he doesn't change and I don't expect
him to, and that's what I love about him. So
you know, he still tells me run hard, be the
energy guy. Same stuff he told me in college. But
that's what got me to this point, so I wouldn't stop.
Speaker 8 (28:30):
Now.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Sean and Ryan are very close, So U Ryan and
they're good buddy. Sean's been on the show many times.
We're big Seawan Woods fans.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Here absolutely, carm you know you're you were there last
year and here this year. How is this team different
than last year's team?
Speaker 9 (28:43):
Like I said before, we're deeper. You know, we have
eleven guys that can all play, that are in good shapes.
You know, our practices have been great. We're competing, you know,
and last year was able Familia's first year doing that
so this year we have more experience. We got to
the final four, so I think having that experience is
key for us, and having veterans like Drone Lambs, someone
(29:04):
who won a championship here.
Speaker 7 (29:06):
You know, if you look.
Speaker 9 (29:07):
At March Madness and TVT, they're kind of similar concept
in a way that it's a winner go home and
Drond Lamb was one of those guys that went all
the way and won a championship. So his I think
contributions will be huge for us for sure.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
You know, he was supposed to on the show yesterday
and we think he overslept.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
He gets he could sleepy sometimes.
Speaker 9 (29:26):
Karen, that's okay. I think we'll go to a second round,
so you guys will have time to have.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Somewhere we go.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Somebody needs to be his wake up, make sure he
gets up and ready for the game to tomorrow night.
Speaker 7 (29:38):
Yeah, well game is at seven, so hopefully he's up
by that.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
Yeah, we have problems if he's not up by seven.
But you mentioned being surprised by fans and how they
embraced you. Were you as surprised as I was by
the atmosphere a rup And then when you went to Louisville,
which you want, I'll add, but that place was insane.
Did you expect that when you committed to play in
the TVT that you'd be playing in these big sold
out or you knows like you have been?
Speaker 7 (30:01):
Not really.
Speaker 9 (30:02):
So this is my fourth year playing in TVT. Two
years ago I was playing for the college that I
went to, Xavier, and we hosted Cincinnati and we got
about eight thousand, and I think that was the second
most fans that was ever at at a game. First
was Witchita at nine thousand. I definitely didn't expect sixteen
seventeen thousand at a TVT game. You know, it's summertime.
(30:24):
People usually, you know, not as school students are not here,
so it was it was a cool game. I'm glad
he won that game, you know, bragging Rice for an
entire year.
Speaker 7 (30:33):
You know. Hopefully we play against those guys this year too.
It was fun. I'm looking forward to that.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
So what you what's your expectations Dan being the rookie
on the team now this year.
Speaker 8 (30:43):
Yeah, well I haven't. I don't have four years like
my gud.
Speaker 10 (30:47):
But I played in the TVT last year run DFW,
you know, in the Louisville region, so Actually I was
at the game, you know, ye Louisville, so I got
to experience somewhat on the outside. But now I'm just
ready to do my part. You know, I expect you know,
sold out arenas. I expect you know, big time shots.
I expect big time plays, you know, because that's what
(31:08):
you want. I'm a competitor, so I didn't want to
sign up for nothing that was you know, wasn't up
to par. So I believe, you know, it's one of
the best competitions that you know, could be available right now.
Speaker 8 (31:17):
That's why I committed to playing it.
Speaker 10 (31:19):
And you know, with the guys on my team, you know,
they're big time players, big time shot makers. So nah,
I'm just ready to you know, to one be a
fan of it all and see it and to to
be a part of it. Man. And uh, like I said,
just do my contribution to whatever I could do to
you know, help this team succeed.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
For either one of you. Since you're both veterans here,
do you like the elam ending now that you've had
it a few years playing in this is it especially
you made with the ball in your hand? Do you
like knowing one shot could call game? At any moment
like that.
Speaker 10 (31:43):
Yeah, it definitely gives a little more interest to every possession,
you know, down the stretch. But uh yeah, I mean
as a competitor, like I said, you know, you want,
you know, big time shots, you know, big time plays.
So now that's why I'm glad I got a lot
of players on my team that, you know, all could
mix shots like that, all big plays. So yeah, it's fun,
you know when you're on a on a good side
(32:03):
of it, you know, but uh, you know it has
its cons definitely, you know when you're on the other
side of it.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
Yeah, Andrew mentioned when you lose, you want more time
on the clock, like, no, one more minute. We got this,
but it has been fun. Andrew hit the big shot
in Louisville. Did you get an elam ending last year?
Speaker 7 (32:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (32:16):
I thought you did. There you go, Yeah, I knew
you had one. Feeling good getting that game winner.
Speaker 9 (32:21):
No, definitely adds more excitement to the game. You know,
the game could be a blowout, but like you want
to see, like what's gonna happen in that Ela Manding,
So it adds more enjoyed excitement. So I'm a fan
of the Ela Manding.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Well of course you're gonna feel that. You already know
the love. We'll be there this weekend. You're gonna feel
the love. I mean, they'll embrace you. You'll be a
Kentucky Wildcat now for life. You guys wearing your Kentucky Yeah,
I got love.
Speaker 10 (32:42):
I got a lot of little so far man even
gave my own little personal UK bag and stuff like that.
So no, man, you know that they didn't theydn't embrace
me with more than love.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
So we can't use the S word. But you guys
did have a little gathering yesterday.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Not a scrimmage, not a screamin.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
It wasn't a screaming. It was just gathering. What was
your takeaway of the team you played against yesterday, Karen.
Speaker 9 (33:03):
Yeah, so we've done a similar concept last year as well.
You know, I think last year's team or this team
is a little bit different.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
How are they different?
Speaker 9 (33:12):
I think last year I think they relied on outside
shouts more and a little bit more physical. I think
this year's team has more skill and guys that can,
you know, do multiple things. You know, I was a
fan of Ottega. Yeah, you know, I think he's gonna
be a leader. He's gonna, you know, be the guy
for them. But I think they have ten eleven guys
(33:34):
that can play. So that was that was really cool
to see. You know, I'm looking forward to seeing these guys.
I think they they you know, they put up a
good fight yesterday, so I'm looking forward to following.
Speaker 7 (33:44):
Them all season long.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
What about you, DJ?
Speaker 10 (33:47):
Yeah, man, I've just seen a lot of explosiveness. Like
you said, you know, they got a lot of young
talent over there, and those guys, you know, they're not
no pushovers for sure. They definitely can hold their own
and and some more. So now I'm excited to see
how to Welkis do this year. I'm expecting big things
from them. They got a lot of great, great silent
over there, and like I said, and I'm expecting a
(34:07):
lot of explosive plays, a lot.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Of great so we need to hear that's what we
want to hear. Listen, thanks for coming out, guys, really
appreciate it. Good to get to know both of you really.
I know you were here last year, we didn't get
to visit with you much. DJ. Welcome to Lexington. I
go out and win us A tournament was definitely go well.

This is the good life now joining us. Now a
newcomer to the law familiar TVT team, but he's an
old man considered electioning guy. I've seen this guy play
probably a dozen times over his career. Markquise Warwick from
Henry Clay played at Northern Kentucky, played at Missouri last year.
Kind of hurt Kentucky man. What the heck are you doing? Man?
Playing against your home team. So but appreciate you joining
(35:41):
us and congratulates welcome to TVT. Well wait a minute,
it turned on the wrong one, now go.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
That was Ryan's fault.
Speaker 6 (35:47):
Thank you, thank you for having me.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Uh. You started your career at Northern played for Darren Horn,
had a.
Speaker 4 (35:54):
Great career there, all horizon.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Great hit, a couple of drum mentioned, a couple big
bug buzzer beaters played. What the decision? Then the transfer
got to play in the SEC Againstsouri last year. That
had to be a big thrill for you.
Speaker 11 (36:05):
Yeah it was, yeah, you know, just making that jumping,
like you said, all four years in Northern Kentucky and
I had a great career there and then you know,
I just wanted to prove something, you know, at a
bigger level.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
Ryan mentioned it. But the Kentucky game, even though it
went well for the Wildcats, you got pretty hot.
Speaker 8 (36:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
If you didn't leave Missouri scoring, you had to been
close seventeen eighteen points something like that? Was it because
of that Lexington connection and that logo on that jersey?
Did it wake you up a little bit? Or I
think you all were in a funk at the time.
Did you just know that the team needed to get
back on the right track. Any extra motivation there at all?
Speaker 8 (36:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Yeah, I'll be honest, it was a little bit of both.
Speaker 11 (36:37):
You know, you know how guys get hyped up and
things like that to play Kentucky. But at that you know,
my hometown school, uh school I grew up watching, and
so you know, just to play against them, you know,
it meant a little bit more in that game, especially
at home. It was senior day too, so but also
it was just me staying ready when my name was
called and just being ready to go and do what
(36:58):
I do out there.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
And Kentucky really needed to win that Free SEC tournament.
So I apologize anything I said towards your direction. My television.
Why you were knocking down five three pointers or whatever
it was.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Have you touched the ball knocking down at three pointer?
Speaker 8 (37:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (37:09):
It gets Kentucky. So I mentioned you said your mom
still lives here in Lexington, So you still spend a
lot of time when you during the off season coming back.
Speaker 11 (37:15):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, every time, you know, during my college career,
coming back during the spring and then sometimes in the
summer when we have breaks for workouts. But but yeah,
I love Lexington. I've been here basically all my life,
and you know, I love just coming back and seeing
my mom and the friends as well as well.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
You don't see you kind of grow at Henry Clay.
You now ended up Henry Clay's all time scoring leader
at Great Basketball School. You were just every year you
got better and better and better.
Speaker 8 (37:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (37:43):
Yeah, And I tell people all the time I basically
did in three years because I barely played my freshman year.
But but yeah, I mean, just a great tradition there.
And at the time I took over the record from
the assistant coach Steve Miller.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
Who played there.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Mister basketball tech.
Speaker 6 (38:00):
Ye shout out to Steve Miller. You know, he held
it since nineteen eighty four.
Speaker 11 (38:03):
So I wish I could have the career he had
with with state championships and mister basketball. But but yeah,
I mean I had a great time there and just
a lot of hard work and patients.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
Your time in Missouri is still fresh, so I understand
if it's awkward admitting this. But did you like Kentucky
growing up? When you were in likeing it? Did you
follow the Cats closely?
Speaker 6 (38:19):
I followed him closely.
Speaker 11 (38:20):
I've always been a basketball junkie, so I've watched a
lot of games in Kentucky basketball. But no, I didn't
grow up a fan at all. I never wore Kentucky Blue.
I was actually a Florida Gator fan.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
What I was, what's wrong with me? Play right down
the road over here?
Speaker 11 (38:38):
Since I was a little kid, just Florida Gators it
was that was my dream school.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
So you you playing? I guess just Neelton in twenty
Beckham calls you said, hey, man, you're interested in playing
with us? Howd that conversation go?
Speaker 11 (38:49):
Yeah, it was just a few weeks ago I talked
to It was my first interaction.
Speaker 6 (38:54):
I talked to LAMONK. Campbell.
Speaker 11 (38:56):
He he played for Shawn Woods about to be on
the staff like Scott count with them.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Oh, I didn't know that he's a Henry Clay guy.
Speaker 11 (39:03):
Henry Clay guy. Yeah, So he brought up that idea
to me. I was like, yeah, I'm interested potentially because
I was thinking about I'm still going through the pre
draft stuff and also looking for some of the opportunities.
But but then you know, Twany and Ethan Corey on
the on the staff, you know, they hit me up
and they said, do I want to play? I was like, yeah,
I'm interested for sure. So yeah, I mean anytime I
could just come out here and you know, play with
(39:23):
you know, Kentucky legends and meet new people and things
like that and make connections, you know, I was definitely
down for it.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
You and I guess Ansley Almanor have the freshest legs
on the team, having just finished your college careers.
Speaker 7 (39:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
Do you think just coming off of SEC basketball toughest conference,
that gives you all just a little bit of advantage
at least with youth and the experience you're just coming
out of.
Speaker 11 (39:44):
Yeah, definitely, definitely, Like you said, just having those fresh legs,
being young, being able to basically, I mean, if we
want to play almost the whole game, we really if
we if we needed to, because we just came off
the season and you know, we're still a little bit
young so compared to our teammate. So but yeah, there's
definitely an advantage and definitely something that will be used
(40:06):
for sure.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
So after the tv T tournaments over, what's next for you?
Will you're gonna look to play overseas somewhere or yeah.
Speaker 11 (40:11):
Yeah, definitely looked at the pro options, whether it's overseas
or G League route one of the two. But yeah,
