We are here at Bespoken Spirits with a good crowd

(01:22):
as they are celebrating Club Blue Bourbon, which is still
going on and the money still goes to nil, even
with the change in the way that you know, rev Share,
Etcetera's going. Club Blue Bourbon, which were helped to be
picked by Ryan and Drew are still here and for
sale and they are giving away today. There are people.
They have these smoked old fashions. The crowd is drinking

(01:44):
the bourbon and it's pretty good. This is the second
straight show where people get to drink bourbon, although in
these these are like mixed or drinks. And our crowd
has slowly moved Ryan to the bar once they started.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Once they started serving.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
They bought these smoked old fashions. I saw Shannon got
one and Drew got one.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
I am here mine, I'm what is the smoked old fashioned?

Speaker 7 (02:05):
Tell me we look at that They take an old
fashion and they cover it up with this dome and
then they pumped smoke in there and it gives it
a smoky flavor. They had just made Shannon's. When I
walked in, I could smell the smoke even outside the.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Door, like I'm at a campfire right now. At these uh,
these marshmallows.

Speaker 7 (02:20):
The other day they got a nice couple of marshmallows
in there to add to it. So I'll be having this. Well,
come on out.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
I'm gonna give some tickets away, uh to the UK
basketball game. I actually just had somebody send me football
tickets as well. You could if you're not going to
one of the games. Remember our little ticket exchange program
send them. Matt dot Jones at Kentucky Sports Radio. We
gave away three sets to the game Tuesday night. Already
have a little bit for tonight as well. Ryan, and Uh,

(02:47):
I think it's gonna be a big weekend. Like I said,
women's game was last night, Valpo Tonight Florida Saturday volleyball
game against Tennessee on Sunday. That's nationally televised, a big
a Lexington's sports weekend as you can have.

Speaker 6 (03:01):
Yeah, I gotta go off the good start. Last night
I turned on the women's game. I think it was
like thirty seven to four at one point, just crushed
monmentth last.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Do you think we sweep all three of those this weekend?
I mean I think obviously we get the Valpo game tonight.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
I mean it all comes down whether you think we're
gonna be Florida. I mean, I think we're gonna get Valpo.
I think the women will get Tennessee in the volleyball game,
So just depends on Florida. So I would say.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
That's pretty high. Yeah, play the game then.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Maybe a little bit hot.

Speaker 7 (03:30):
I'm going to all three. I'm doing the trofecto. You
got tickets to volleyball, Yeah, tonight and tomorrow will be work.
And then I got tickets for volleyball Sunday. And then
last night I went out and bought a volleyball T shirt.
It's my first career UKA volleyball T shirt. I think
it's a women's T shirt, but I'm gonna wear it anyway.
V cut U no, but I got the two X
to try to squeeze into it, so today I might

(03:50):
be wearing a women's T shirt.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Get the dazzle it a little bit.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
You know, I don't care.

Speaker 7 (03:53):
I had to rock some volleyball for him. I'm excited to.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Show a little chance for the ladies. That's not like
a be cut.

Speaker 7 (03:59):
It's a T shirt. It was in the women's sections,
all right.

Speaker 5 (04:01):
Nothing, everybody's got this spaghetti stream. So today our pregame
show is at four point thirty at KS Bar. Would
love to see everybody we've got. I need to make
a quick announcement. I'm messed up online. I'm misunderstood something
Mario said. We have these new cool glasses that but
that I said we were gonna give away starting today.

(04:23):
They actually are are for the UK Louisville game. So
I did want to know. But we will be at
the pregame. It's four thirty today, is it four? What
times the game tomorrow night? Does anybody know.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
What seven thirty?

Speaker 5 (04:36):
So we started three thirty tomorrow, So four thirty today,
three thirty tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
And Ryan, let's see, let's just go, let's start.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
I we gotta start with the football because of some
news from yesterday too. So which do you want to
do first? Do you want to do the Garrett's Gotta
Get Your Money video? Or do you want to talk
about the game.

Speaker 7 (04:59):
Garrett's been waying on my heart.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Okay, so you want to start with Garrett. I'm worried
about Garrett. So that's your question, just out of curiosity.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
How many people here know what I what I mean
when I say Garrett's got to get his money, right?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Look at that? So I mean that's that that I wondered.
All right?

Speaker 5 (05:17):
So I saw that video yesterday morning and I thought
to myself, you know what, I don't know if this
is that like, I don't know if it's about big deal,
I'm not gonna put it out. And then it seemed
like it grew during the day of more people, more
people seen it. If you have not seen it, there's
a video I guess someone named Garrett was talking trash

(05:39):
to Calzada online and then and then Zach Calzada he
responds with a video with a big stack of one
hundred dollars bills.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Now do we think those were real?

Speaker 7 (05:52):
Those are real?

Speaker 2 (05:53):
They weren't real, so.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
You don't think they're like money prop so and then
he like has the stack of money and he shows
how much money and he says something like, you know, yeah,
you may think I suck but like, I look at
all these dollars, dollar bill, y'all.

Speaker 7 (06:09):
COUNTI Garrett, count im Garrett.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
And he says, countum Garrett, Countum Garrett.

Speaker 5 (06:13):
Then he's like, Garrett, you better get your money right now.
I'll know Calzon is twenty five years old and in
his seventh year in college and right now is not playing. Now,
we don't know when this video was made. I'm not
sure any time it's made is better, because if it
was made at the beginning of the year, that means

(06:34):
he was our quarterback when he said it, like he
was our starter in the face of the team. If
it's in the last few weeks, you're talking about how
much money you have and you're not even playing, and
that money in your hand probably could have been used
by us for other for other purposes, and it comes
out two days before a game that might be as
important for Mark Stoops as in any game he's ever had.

(06:57):
So it's a it's a terrible look. It's I mean,
it's surprising to me. Why does he respond, why does
he have all that? How much money? Do we think
that was?

Speaker 4 (07:07):
I lost? Count Hope Garrett was counting.

Speaker 7 (07:11):
It wasn't A few guys I'd say you thinks the
ten thousand maybe more, I think.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
I mean twelve.

Speaker 5 (07:16):
Yeah, I was gonna say like twelve to fifteen, just
as a little piece of advice for Calzada. Leave aside
the look, I don't think you want to tell people
you got that much cash in your apartment.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
I mean, that's just I don't know where you live, but.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Like people will find out.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, when people.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Know you got that much cash sitting in your apartment,
I don't know that that's a gradio plus. Did he
just go to the bank and go I gotta tell somebody.
I gotta tell Garrett something. So give me a big
water of bills.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Oh you think you.

Speaker 7 (07:41):
Withdrew it just for the video, Well, that's a.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
Lot of effort in the video. I mean, just to
get back at Garrett.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
There's a Listen, there's only certain kind of professions where
twenty thousand dollars in cash is just sitting in your pocket.

Speaker 7 (07:54):
You're a huh YouTube streamer for Ryan.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
I mean, but I'm just saying, like most people don't
just have that cast just sitting around just for whatever.
It's like, well, we don't have to go into what
the professions are. But let's just go through here.

Speaker 7 (08:09):
I'll start with you drew your reactions the video one.
I would like to introduce him to compound interest. I mean,
he could be getting six seven percent on that right now,
sitting there on the carpet as a Snapchat prop. Also
thought whatever Garrett said to you to call out his
finances in this economy, I felt like I was a littun
called for Garrett catching a lot of strays scared.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I mean, we don't know what Garrett has to pay
for program.

Speaker 7 (08:30):
Ye yeah, it's tough on everyone these days. But my
biggest picture related to football is it's almost ninety five
percent of bad. Look for Calzada and not UK. I mean,
we know these people are getting millions, hopefully most of
them are putting it in the bank. I just thought
it made him look immature and like he doesn't know
how to handle money. Not so much that the football
I mean we already know is a bad evaluation. He's

(08:51):
not playing quarterback anymore. But like, I don't think it
says a lot about the football program because we know
these guys have that much money. It just says to
me it said a lot about him, know, looking look
foolish I.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
Would just yes, it's it's a worse look on Calzada,
But I would disagree. I think it's you just selected
him as the face of your program. You just, I mean,
part of a complaint Ryan and I've had and I
think you have too. But Ryan and I've articulated a
lot is we've got a lot of money and guys
that are just sitting there. You know, I don't care
that these dudes make money. I really don't. A matter

(09:22):
of fact, not do. I only care it I think
they deserve it. And so if you're starting quarterback at
Kentucky and the SEC and you make one point five
million dollars, I'm okay with it, to be honest with you.
I'm not okay with it though, if you're sitting on
a bench and you're saying, Garrett, get your money right, Like,
that's where so I what bothers me is it led
to an evaluation. He that's an example of an evaluation

(09:45):
that they've made mistakes on a lot.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Over the last three years.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
It's almost He's a symbol to me of a greater
problem in picking these players. That's my issue, Ryan, what
do you think what.

Speaker 6 (09:58):
Kind of an idiot it's twenty thousand dollars in cash,
carries it around, takes it into his apartment and then
flaunts it on video.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
What kind of an idiot does.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
That, Zach Calsato. I'm not Garrett.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Garrett didn't.

Speaker 6 (10:12):
I could not believe it been more productive with this money. Yes,
and we had talked about this for the show start.
I would suspend him immediately. I mean, what would.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
You you said that before the show? What would you
suspend him for? Though? Like? What did he being an idiot?
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (10:27):
I don't know that you could just suspend someone for
being an idiot, Like what I mean, what what's the
rule that he would break?

Speaker 6 (10:34):
I just think, you know, we flasty years sold the
big thing about UK football the culture has been bad.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Correct.

Speaker 6 (10:40):
That video just reemphasizes maybe the culture is bad behind
the behind the doors, behind the scenes.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
So I just think it's just idiot.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
I think Mark students would do a video of the
same thing, of him just showing all the money that
we're wasting on him.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
Put your money up, Mitch, Oh you think get your
money out of Mitch. I want to add, though, my
point was they already mis evaluated Calsada months ago. I'm
already mad about that because he's not good at quarterback.
They've already whiffed on that already. I've been complaining about
that for weeks. So him putting the video out doesn't
add to the CALS question.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Let me ask, would you suspend him?

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Like Ryan says, Oh, he's not playing anyway, so what's
the difference?

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Well, no, it does.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
I mean I don't think they'll suspend him in part
because let's say Cutter Bowlly, Let's say Cutter Bully.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Would get knocked out in the first quarter.

Speaker 5 (11:29):
Why not, Ye, you still would have a shot was
out Callsada to win the game. I don't you would
you get to the third string. I'm not sure that's true. So, like,
I think they almost have to keep him just to
have a theoretical shot to win these games.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
I would probably suspend him at least for a game.
I think it's a bad look for this.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Game or Tennessee tape.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Probably this game, okay, but it's a bad look because
it's a reminder of all the nil money that is
being wasted on a guy who is sitting and maybe
he should give a couple of those hundreds over to
cutter bully because he's the one who's actually earning the money.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
How much money, Ryan, do you think is being spent?
Because you know these numbers even probably better than I do.
How much money do you think is spent of that?
There's a rumor that we spend about twenty million dollars
on this football rist seventeen to twenty million dollars. I
don't know if that's right, but that's probably close to right.
How much of it do you think is going to
guys that don't get in the game?

Speaker 6 (12:21):
Oh my, well, there's definitely a couple of guys that
having one guy who played a snap that's getting close
to the million I think adn't min on the field yet.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
Would you say a third of it is going to
guys that don't play.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
I'd say that's it's probably pretty close to that. It's
right in there somewhere.

Speaker 7 (12:40):
And it's not just the ones not playing. There's some
expensive guys not contributing, like they are paid to control.

Speaker 5 (12:44):
Okay, so let's just let's throw in not contributing. Now
you're getting like forty five. I mean, there's a lot
of guys, especially on the defensive side, they're playing a
lot for us that make almost nothing. Would you agree
with that, Yes, whereas there's a lot of guys who
were playing a lot who maybe play a few plays.

Speaker 7 (13:03):
Yes, And I'm just thinking about the receiver room. I
don't know what any of them made. But Miller had
one hundred and twenty catches and two touchdowns two weeks ago.
I can't imagine he's twenty one of the highest Say
I don't know and twenty yard and two touchdowns. Go ahead, Yeah,
But my point is I wouldn't think that he's one
of the highest paid receivers. It seems like the guys

(13:25):
that are now making the plays are just assuming. But
we know how they had the depth chart to start
the year. They're probably paid less than the guys that
are now benched watching them make the place.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
It's a bad look and it's it hasn't really gone
beyond the UK fan base, but it's a bad look.
And the other thing, Ryan is this is what this
dude's reputation was before he got here. You may not
remember because everybody focused us on the SHIAJ Pete interview
we did during during media days, but we also interviewed
Calsta and you remember what he said? Does he may
remember what he said during that interview. He literally volunteered

(13:58):
and said, I've been immature at some of my other schools.
He did, but when I went to incarnate word, it
humbled me. And now I'm ready to be a grown up.
He said that you could go hear that in our
interview with him, and I remember thinking this is kind
of good, like this kid is acknowledging that he was
immature because he was at some of these other schools,

(14:19):
and now he's grown up. And then when when that
video comes out, and it's almost like flaunting, Hey, I
know I'm not playing, but I got rich.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
That's what he says that Mac Davison says it's hard
to be humble. I think it's hard to be humble.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
But you should be humble when you're at least mac
Davis was saying, because I'm good looking.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
And successful, he's get it paid to sit down.

Speaker 7 (14:38):
I questioned the situational awareness he's got to look around
and be like, I've been benched for a freshman.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
Maybe I shouldn't now what happens though tomorrow night if
he ends up having to play, Like what happens if
he has to run out on the field after everyone
in the crowd has seen that video.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
And if he plays poorly, they'll get boot off.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
He's started getting boot here. He's not even here.

Speaker 7 (14:59):
The worst of it is and you know, I'd put
most of it on him. But it does suck seeing
that and then asking people, blue collar people to give
more money to give them when then those people are
watching that video online exactly right.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
The text machine made national news yesterday.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
We will talk about that the basketball game and the
actual game tomorrow with Florida.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
We'll be right back to see It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Water Back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (15:31):
You could come see us here at Bespoken Spirits in
in the Gray Line station. They also have Bespoken on
the Bourbon Trail, which was voted best of Lexington and
best Distillery. One of their bourbon's just won best straight
bourbon in the world. What does that mean best straight bourbon? Yeah,
but because it means straight as two your minimum. Okay,

(15:56):
I just didn't know in the context what that meant
was didn't neither. Yeah, but the congratulations on that eight
fi I'm nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven. Lot
of comments on Cawzada, none of them positive. Nobody's going,
you know what, Drew, Nobody's like I feel like that's good.

Speaker 7 (16:13):
Gart needed to be called out.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
Here we go, One person writes, My buddy and I
spent last night separately trying to figure out how.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Much money was in his hand.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
We both came up after pausing and counting dollar for dollar,
exactly twenty thousand. Let's say we're right. If it's an
exact number like that, that means he must have gotten
it out of the bank. I would agree with that.
If it was exactly twenty thousand dollars, you don't just
happen to have that perfectly round number. That would mean

(16:47):
you would go and ask for that specific amount of money.

Speaker 7 (16:49):
One of our friends texted me and said he also
counted twenty, so at a third that says exactly twenty thousand.
The third opinion.

Speaker 5 (16:56):
Clear twenty thir What if he went to the bank
and said, I want this.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Joe Garrett my money.

Speaker 6 (17:01):
I want twenty thousand dollars and one hundred dollars bills
so I can throw it on video.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
I didn't even know you could draw up that much
at once.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
I thought they can, but you have to, like the
government knows when you do that.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
So the government knows about this video, I think.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
I think when you get I think when you get
five or ten, ten, you have to fill out this
whole form.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
And they're like, hey, what's been happening.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Well, just about to make a video for Garrett, you know.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
All right, So that's that's that I want. Now. One
more sort of none on the floor thing.

Speaker 5 (17:34):
U of l last night beat Jackson State in front
of friends and family at the game.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
If you watched it and after the.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
Game was over, and well, first of all, it was
kind of an emotional positive thing for them. Kaseseean Pryor
who got hurt last year. You remember he was the
guy who hurt his leg. I think in the game
against Creighton he was playing for the first time, which
is very nice. He was one of their better players
last season. He was play for the first time, and
when the game was over, he was interviewed. At First
of all, at the end of the game, Louisville fans

(18:05):
chanted beat UK the twelve of them that were remaining.
They chanted beat UK and then after the game he
was Kashan Pryor was asked about the game next Tuesday
against Kentucky and he said, blank them. He said, that's it.
He said, that's my comment.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Blank them. Do you like that or does it make
you more fired up?

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Do you like that kind of language when you're talking
about the rivalry.

Speaker 7 (18:32):
I do not condone that language, especially the press conference.
Think you should show a little more class. But I
actually like that they're on the unclassy end and we're
getting the little animosity going.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (18:42):
But well, as we've said many times, we like Pope
and Kelsey what they're doing, what they're back and forth,
but it's a little too friendly. I'm glad we're mucking
it up a little bit. And they're throwing the first stone.
And as soon as I saw it, I thought some
I hope someone runs this to Brandon Garrison right now
so we can see this and get excited about next Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
He used to drive me crazy Ryan during the last regime,
when when the coach and the players, so I go,
it's just another game, and I would say I.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Want it to be important to you. This is Louisville now.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
To be fair, though, we would always win, and it
always felt like Louisville wanted it more than us and
they played tight and we would win. I feel like
that's not true. Like I feel like now the players
really feel what.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
This game is.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
But do you like the spice of blonde haired Kashawan
saying that, absolutely?

Speaker 2 (19:27):
I do.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
I mean, it's not just another game. And the fact
they threw the first rock. Now Pope can show Aberdeen
Debaut that these guys that know nothing about our rivalry
what it's all about.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
Man, get them fired up.

Speaker 6 (19:37):
So yeah, I'm glad we got a little Boltimore material
going into the game to this rivalry needs some gas
on the fire.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
And Pat Kelsey and Mark Polper never going to get
there between you.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
But I mean they almost got in a fight outside,
Like you know, for all this class about how nice
they are, they almost got in like a physical confrontation.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
Rick and Cow didn't do that.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
We're never gonna get to that level, Rick and Cow.
But we need to get close.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
And I think it's gonna come down to the players
saying something like that to get this rivalry going back
to where it was before.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
It's interesting you say that because Rick and col hated
each other, but they wanted to publicly act like they did.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
That we all knew we did.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
But I think it's maybe the opposite with Pope and Kelsey.
I think they they maybe I don't know.

Speaker 7 (20:20):
I think this is ricking cal. Both have a bunch
of dudes in leather jackets around them that can handle
it for them if they need to get.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
Message that's true. Well, I like this. I think you're
gonna see I think you're gonna see the prior dude's
gonna take a hit from somebody. You can't just say that.

Speaker 7 (20:35):
Rennie Harrison got chippy last year in Rup.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
There's gonna be a t in the first five minutes
of the game. I'm calling it right now, do you.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
I mean that arena just for like nobody was there yesterday,
but Tuesday, that arena is gonna be wild.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
I mean, this is there.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
I was trying to think the last time they've had
a home game with a crowd against us that they
really thought they were gonna win.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
You probably gotta go back a while.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
I mean, they beat us during COVID, but I think
that was like a half crowd wasn't it, And and
we I didn't remember the game. That game didn't have
quite the high. You probably have to go back a decade, Ryan,
for a time that we've gone there, and they were
more confident they were gonna win than now.

Speaker 6 (21:17):
And it seems like the last couple of times they
had really good teams. Then we're real confident. We went
in there and beat him on their home.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
But I don't I think even then they thought we
were better. So I think they were like hoping to win.
This is one they They're gonna be favored probably in
that game, don't you think.

Speaker 7 (21:31):
Yeah, depending how Kentucky looks low, But I'd say the
way they've started, they'll most likely be favored.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
Well let's get to that for a second. Jalen Low's
coming back. Yeah, Mark Pope announces. That's worth clapping. I
think Mark Pope announces that that Jalen Low will be back.
He will play tonight. To me, he's the key to
the season. To me, I'm if no other reason to watch,
it's that. Ryan, Are you excited about this?

Speaker 6 (21:54):
I'm excited to just finally see him on the floor
in a real game. You know, we talked all summer
how he's the whole key, he could be the most
valuable player.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
And now with him coming.

Speaker 6 (22:01):
Back, probably baby steps, probably not starting, but maybe bring
him in a little bit like they did Aberdeen last week,
getting ready for Louisville and Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
That's why I would start him. Shannon, you're gonna be
starting against Louisville, I hope, so I go.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
This is your tune up tonight, so play as if
you were playing against Louisville tonight.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (22:16):
I mean, this is another reason I wish we weren't
playing Louisville so early is because of this. But we
got to put him like he's got the game coming
up Tuesday night, and he's somebody who's played against Louisville before.

Speaker 7 (22:27):
Yes, he needs to play as much as he possibly can.
The offense has been so disjointed without him. They need
to play a full game with him at point guard
to see what that offense can look like.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
And he let Louisville up last year.

Speaker 5 (22:36):
I'll just remind you they lost the game, but he
was He was really really good against Louisville, kind of
kept him in the game.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
So I want to see him.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
I'm excited to me this team goes as far as
jayaln Lowe is good and so I'm really looking forward
to seeing him play if I'm not two eight oh
twenty two eighty said, we'll take your calls right after
this KSR.

Speaker 7 (22:55):
TJ.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.

Speaker 7 (22:58):
He'll make him pay.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
Here's Matt Jones workme back.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
I'm gonna do uh you know sometimes they say, Shannon Radio,
you also have to do.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
A public service.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
Yeah, yeah, that's right.

Speaker 5 (23:13):
I'm gonna do a public service for the people that
live on a certain part of town here in Lexington.
If you live where Drew and I used to live,
off Leestown Road, life's about to be really bad for
the next for a couple of weeks, yes, starting Sunday
until the twenty sixth, they're shutting down the ramps on
the New Circle Road at least town in every direction.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
I can't even imagine what kind of cluster that's gonna be.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
Already.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
I mean it's already because it's been two lanes down
to one for a while and now they're shutting them down.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
It's probably the right way to do it.

Speaker 5 (23:45):
Just be like, here's a couple of weeks that it's
gonna be awful and then they'll be okay after Thanksgiving.
But I would Ryan, that's also that's where you are now.
I would stay away from that part of town completely
for the next couple of weeks.

Speaker 6 (23:58):
I've already found some shortcuts to try to get around
it because it is going to be a nightmare. Our
show starts at ten. I'm gonna start leaving at eight
in the morning, just to make sure I can get
there on eight in the morning, because it's the traffic
is just ridiculous in the middle of the day. You
leave at eight in the morning, I will I will
definitely leave at least at nine, give myself an hour
to get there for the show.

Speaker 7 (24:17):
I've even felt it near up close to where you
live from it backing up on Lestown. If you're there
around five, I mean, it's affecting all. It's gonna be
off town. I mean, it's gonna be absolutely awful. And
that starts Sunday, so and uh and remember if you
come to the game tonight, These Friday afternoons have just
been I mean Friday afternoon's been hell in Lexington in
the last few weeks. Maybe with Keenland Dunne it won't

(24:38):
be quite as bad this time, but it's just been.

Speaker 5 (24:41):
This city is a disaster on Friday afternoons when it
comes to traffic. Hopefully it won't be uh, won't be
like that now, Just come to chaos, bar and walk.
That's what I tell you. Although and it's sports of
the poor rain tonight. Maybe you don't maybe be awful tonight. Yeah,
maybe you don't walk tonight, but you could, you know,
get in the car if I'm nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven, who's up first?

Speaker 7 (25:02):
Rod?

Speaker 2 (25:04):
Rod?

Speaker 8 (25:04):
Go ahead, Rod, Hey, Peli's got to talk to you. Listen.
I've got a couple of hypotheticals I like you'd answer.
I'll be really fast and listen. All fair, But suppopn
Kentucky does go six and six in football, considering the
middle eighth debacle and the mismanagement of nil, not what
you think will happen. But considering the bios, it's not

(25:25):
an issue personally. Do you think of that?

Speaker 2 (25:27):
BA, Hang on a second, you just set a sentence
I can't go with. Which is the bio? It's not
an issue. It's an issue. It's a major issue.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
It's just not an issue if the team is to
a if the programs to a point where they can't
not let him go. But the reason I think he
keeps his job at six and six if he wants
now this is a key. If he wants, I still
think there's a chance that he may not want to,
at which point a different set of circumstances could play out.

(25:58):
But if he wants to, the thirty seven million is
the difference. If the thirty seven million didn't exist, Ryan
and he went six and six, I could still see
a world he got fired. But I don't see him
getting fired with six and six and a thirty seven
million dollar buyo.

Speaker 6 (26:12):
Just won't happen. Just business wise, it just won't happen.
Doesn't make sense for him.

Speaker 5 (26:16):
Do I think, though they answer your question, it would
be good for the program to have a change.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
Probably, But at the same time, do I think it
would be good for the program to have a change
and to come up with thirty seven million dollars at
a time that they just added twenty two million dollars
a year to their revenue and they have all these
capital projects. Do I think at six and six it's
good to make a change. Then probably not. So that's
what I mean. I'm that's why I think this game

(26:43):
tomorrow night is so important. You lose this game tomorrow night,
I think they start working on the bio. You win
this game tomorrow night, they probably put it off and say,
what's gonna happen with Bandy and Louisville.

Speaker 8 (26:56):
Okay, take a question, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
Jully, go ahead.

Speaker 4 (27:03):
I heard the appreciate the call.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
Okay, fair enough, fair enough, that's the trigger.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
Yeah, I mean I did hit the It's better even
though it hurts people's feat. It's better to end early
than go light, because.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
You never know what people are gonna say.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
But you're right, that game tomorrow night, they win that one,
they win Tennessee Tech. You're sitting on five wins. You correct,
you've won three in a row. I mean the program
is looking at looking in better shape. So then it
goes down to do you get blown out those last
two games? Maybe you win one of those.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
I think they still have to win one. I think
here's the if they're five and seven, I don't care
what this fanase. If they go five and seven.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
And bring it back. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
It'll be an improvement from last year, and it's better
than what everybody gave him credit for winning.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
They are already had four wins.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
So you would support bringing back You gotta take yes.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
By anybody's expectations, he overachieved.

Speaker 5 (27:58):
You would so you would support Shannon is pro stoops
at five and seven? What are you that means they
beat probably let's say they beat Florida, loose to Andy
and Louisville.

Speaker 6 (28:08):
At five and seven with that buyout, I'm bringing him back.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Okay, what about you? No?

Speaker 7 (28:12):
Sorry, guys, think he's got a bowl. I don't think
you can fire him if he takes you to the postseason.
We all know last year was bad. It was dipping
a little bit before that. I think most fans, that
they're being honest, got this schedule and said, if we
get to a ball, that's pretty impressive. So if he
gets to a ball, I can't be like, well, let's
fire him anyway, because all along I just wanted him
to get to a Bowl. Even though I don't think
as fun as Auburn was, I was happy for him

(28:34):
beating Auburn. If they beat Florida, Saturday. Those still aren't
enough to change my opinion of the whole program. But
I don't think you can fire him if he wins six.

Speaker 3 (28:41):
All right, no, no, no, answer your own question? Pass no, no,
come on now we answered it.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Yes, I.

Speaker 5 (28:52):
It's not my money, Okay, I don't have to balance
a budget.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
Yes or no.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
I think if we go five and seven, the fan
base has reached a level you need to make a change.
And I think that's that's unfortunate, but I think it is, Uh,
that would be hard.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
That's hard for me.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
For me, five and seven is like what if Kala
had beaten Oakland but then lost in the second round
to be five and seven? Like Oakland made it easy.
Oakland made it to where it was like but remember
the key thing to remember is he was gonna stay. I mean,
Mitchell's gonna keep cal after Oakland. But Oakland for me
was like, Okay, it's definitive. But if they had lost,

(29:30):
if they've beaten Oakland and then lost to n C
State in the second round, that to me is kind
of what five and seven is like.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
So what about the people are now arguing and they
only lost to Texas by three then lost to old.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
I don't care about that. That's happened for ten years.

Speaker 5 (29:44):
You can we only I can give you a lot
of games we only won by three, or we only
won by one, you know, I mean like you could
do that.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
You can do that all day long.

Speaker 7 (29:51):
If Texas came in number one and undefeated, and Arch
was what he was supposed to be, then you might
take a moral victory. But Arch couldn't hit a receiver
of that game. It was still nice to play it close.
But I don't think that, Jame.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
I mean, that's like going, what if Austin McGinnis and
missus field goal? I mean, you can do that all
year if you want, but so at some point the
results have to have to matter.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Who's next, Josh, Josh, go ahead? Josh.

Speaker 9 (30:12):
Heyy Matt, this is a Josh for some caller who
are I've got a hypothetical basketball question. So assume all
the guys who graduated from Pope's roster last year have
the eligibility to return this year, and assume Quaintan's and
lower healthy. Do you think any of those guys from
last year could start on this team?

Speaker 5 (30:35):
Yes, I do, I think uh, I mean, appreciate the call,
here's what's interesting. I mean, let's re, let's re talk
about this going into conference play. I think you could
make an argument that our starting lineup last year might
have been better than our starting lineup this year without

(30:56):
Jaden Quaints.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
But our bench is better this year.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
So if you're telling me, I get a healthy LaMotte Butler,
I get Jackson Robinson Oway, a healthy car and a
healthy Amari Williams.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
That's probably a better starting lineup than what we have
this year.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
But the bench was thin so that when we had injuries,
we weren't good. The bench is a lot deeper here,
and I have to hope drew over time that pays dividends,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 7 (31:28):
Yeah, I would take a Mari on about any team
me too. I know there were times where you're throwing
the stands, we get frustrated, and he seemed like he
never wanted to dunk. Uh. But it's still a great
player and he's kind of a unicorn in how he
could pass. The only thing with last year starter is
that I like much more about this team. And I
hate saying his name out loud because I love him,
But I think we learned that Andrew Carr type at
the four in the SEC, he just got beat a

(31:50):
little bit with kind of quicker guy. Alabama actually got him,
so I think changing just hate him. Say his name,
that type of player. Trading that for a Diabate. I
think we break it down player by player. Ryan Amri
is better than Brandon Garrison, correct.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
Especially in the post. That's one point for last year's team.

Speaker 5 (32:08):
Diabate is probably gonna end up better than Andrew Carr.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
So that's one point for this year's team. Do we
agree with that? Fair?

Speaker 5 (32:15):
Second year Oway we hope will be better than first
year away, it's probably equal. So I'm just gonna call
that a push, Okay, I would say, uh, you know,
Jackson Robinson. Jackson Robinson is probably better than whoever we
end up starting at the three.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Right.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
So far it had been Trent and Noah, but I'd
probably take Jackson Robinson. Is Jalen Lowe gonna be better
than Lamont Butler or not? That's probably the difference in
which team's better. If Jalen brought Low's better than Lamont Butler,
then Shannon, we're better than last year's team. If Jalen
Low's not better than Lamont Butler, then I don't know
if we are on the starting line up now on

(32:56):
the bench.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
I think this year's team's better.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
That it all starts tonight.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
We're gonna see what we can and you know it
is gonna be a lot of pressure on Jalen Low
to run this offense.

Speaker 5 (33:06):
And remember you had Kobe Braa last year who could
come off the bench and guarantee you three threes a
game sometimes fight. Do we have that guy this year?
Do we have a guy that we know will make
the shots? Chandler hits some in the second half, hopefully
he's him.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
We'll see.

Speaker 7 (33:23):
I think, no matter, they will figure out the shooting.
It can't be as bad as it's been. I think
part of that's because the offense has been so out
of sorts. But I still don't think theyn't have anything
close to the flamethrower that Kobe Brale was. You've got
a couple of good shooters, but I don't think anybody
will be close to what he was able to do.

Speaker 5 (33:37):
I'm still very high on this team, but I'm very
high on this team with the assumption that Jalen Low's
really good. If he's not, then I think there's some
issues that you're gonna they're gonna show up. Clayton and
Crum was founded on a simple idea, all leather good
should last a lifetime. They make everything for bags, belts, wallets,
and much more. And the best part, they're doing it

(33:58):
right here in Kentucky. Check him out at Clayton Andcroom
dot com, crummy dot com, or visit their flagship store
in Louisville at two sixteen South Shelby Street in Nulu.
Quality leather goods, built to last. It's Clayton and Kroom.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
We'll take a break and be right back. This is
Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome Mack. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (34:18):
Here if the smoking spirits remember, Club Blue Bourbon is
still out and raid Rock supporting UK services through JMI,
Ryan and Drew helped select the recipe. They've got the
blue and the white. You can see it right up here.
Those of you that are here can get it while
you're here, and you can taste it in the smoked bourbons,
which I've noticed you guys have all taken a sip up.
I will do that during the break, just a little sip. Yeah,

(34:40):
I just had one sip. The yours is empty, So
maybe not rules text machine seven seven two seven seven
four five two five four one rights, Matt, what is
wrong with Shannon? Five wins and he should be pot
fired period. We are sick of this. Tell Shannon he
has no understanding of the fan base. Somehow you get that,

(35:01):
Ryan doesn't even though you all had the same opinion.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
Well, let's all look in the mirror and look and
see who we are. We're Kentucky football. Okay, five and seven.
With the schedule that we talked about going into the year,
I think that's not that bad.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
One person, right, not great, but it's not that bad, Matt.

Speaker 5 (35:15):
How can you believe this year's team is not better
than last year. This year's team's got more athletes, more
ability to play defense. It's better. It's definitely got more athletes.
But here's the thing I knew about last year's team,
So it depends on.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
What you like, Ryan.

Speaker 5 (35:30):
Last year, I knew that this team could put up
eighty any game, yep, right, So I knew they could
always put up eighty. So if we played a team
that could put up eighty, we could still do the
same thing. I gotta see that with this year's team. Now,
the good thing about this year's team. Defense travels right,
So I think we're gonna be able to defend anybody
we play a team like Alabama last year. We could
have played Alabama last year fifty times. I think we

(35:52):
might have won like twice. They just we were not
gonna beat them. This year's team could beat them, would
you agree?

Speaker 6 (35:59):
Yeah, I Hope saw weakness in his team last year,
and it was on the defensive end. He put a
lot of emphasis on defense putting together this roster for
this year's team.

Speaker 5 (36:08):
But last year's team could beat some teams that I
think this year's team might struggle with. I think this
year's team is better, but it requires Drew, Jalen Lowe,
and Jayden Quaint's being good and play. If they're not
good or don't play, then I'm not sure we're better
than last year's team.

Speaker 7 (36:26):
Yeah. Uh to that point, both those guys being healthy
I think is most important. Quaintan's actually playing and playing soon.
We get low back tonight, and I agree with you
that the depth is much better. But as I was
saying when we were comparing the starting fives, I think
Diabate is a symbol of Mark Pope going through that
sec last year and wow, I needed to don't like
that because he shut down. Oh way, if that wasn't

(36:48):
the first time, way, didn't you double digits? It might
have been the second of only two. And that's why
I mentioned that car kind of that tall stretch forward
that doesn't have the quickness he abandoned that went out
and literally got Diabate, who was a every time they
played them.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
I do, though I wasn't on the postgame show.

Speaker 5 (37:03):
And while the offense in the first half Tuesday night
was awful a defense, you did hold them to fifteen. Yeah,
I mean you did. You did make it to where
like take last year, if we had shot the ball
that poorly last year, we'd have been losing it halftime
right right, we'd have been. And instead this year they're
still up thirteen because our defense is really good and

(37:24):
it actually might take a small step back with low
but the offense I think will be a lot better
with it.

Speaker 6 (37:29):
Yeah, you held them at fifteen and Aberdeen, your best
defensive player that was in uniform didn't even hardly play
in the first half.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
You know, last year's team was winning games in the
nineties and hundreds. I don't know that this year's team
was going to be like that.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
This year they better shoot better if they're going to
Who's a.

Speaker 7 (37:43):
Team total the other night was ninety five? I'll laughed
at that. There was no way in hell that team
was going to score ninety five without Low and Aberdeen
being limited.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
They gotta shoot again. They got to shoot the ball better.
They just have to shoot the ball better. Who's next, Isaiah? Isaiah?
Go ahead? Isaiah?

Speaker 10 (37:58):
Hey man, I actually agree with you and Drew. I
think five and seven you'd probably have to make a change.
But my question is if he does say and we
can't muster up the buyout, where would you put the
money to get you excited for next year's roster? Assuming
you cheap, cutter, bullie and all that. Would you put
money towards like your safeties, your defensive buying, your offensive line?

Speaker 2 (38:19):
WHOA?

Speaker 10 (38:20):
What kind of roster construction would you would you get
excited about? Where would you put your money if you're
a UK?

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Well, all right, so that's I don't know.

Speaker 5 (38:30):
If you all saw Wisconsin yesterday, their fan base was
as done with their coach as a lot of ours
is with ours. And they announced they're bringing him back
and they basically said, instead of paying the buy out,
we're just gonna spend money on the rost.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
We're gonna invest in the roster.

Speaker 5 (38:45):
You know, there's a world, Ryan, I could see them
doing that and yep, and I think that would be
a tough decision. Now, with that said, they do have
a lot of young guys coming back. If you can
keep them, and that's the thing is, you don't know, Ryan,
if now you can keep them, I think they gotta
get better. I think they got you know, they're gonna
lose their whole offensive line. So the first thing you'd

(39:06):
have to do is put your money is just getting
a new offensive line because they're gonna lose all these guys.

Speaker 6 (39:10):
Yeah, answer that guy's question. That's where they need to
investor money on the offensive line. These young guys, some
of that NAL money has to go to re recruit them,
get them to stay here. Some of these young receivers,
the Millers and Tony Jason Patterson are running back. Cutter
at quarterback will get some people calling about him. They're
got to do son inn AL money to keep those
guys here.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
I mean there's people who want Cutter. I appreciate the
call there's people we've already.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Reached out to Cutter, so gotta keep him here.

Speaker 5 (39:34):
Gotta keep him here. Let's talk for a second about tomorrow.
Do you feel good about us winning?

Speaker 7 (39:38):
I have felt good since February, and I'm not changing.
This Florida team isn't what they wanted it to be.
Lagway is not the Heisman candidate they wanted. A guy
named Billy Rodriguez is now the coach. They're coming here.
You know, we're the best receivers out tomorrow. If their
injury report is long, it's got a couple receivers on it,
one who just had the huge game against Georgia. We

(39:59):
talk about the tim sure thing. I don't know if
it matters that much, but we'll take it. If he
wants to get cold, it'll certainly help. I am still
down on the overall operation, but I have not changed
about winning tomorrow's game, and I think they get it done.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Where three point underdog, Ryan, are you gonna pick us
to win? Here?

Speaker 6 (40:15):
In a little bit, I am gonna pick him to win,
just because basically, back up everything Drew just said, they're
they're coming in, they're limping in their quarterback. Lagway is
supposed to be a superstar. He's had a rough season.
They're like a wounded dog coming in here.

Speaker 5 (40:26):
So I like what you usually say the wounded dogs,
like you have a whole theory.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Yell, let me treat it. They're a hurt dog. Wounded
dog fights back, hurt dog, doesn't you? A wounded hurt.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
Dog is a wounded dog. If you're wounded, you're hurt.

Speaker 6 (40:37):
Now, you're really If you're really hurt, you can't fight back.
You just kind of lay down. That's what they are
about it.

Speaker 4 (40:41):
How about an old dog, old really hurt dog. Yeller?

Speaker 5 (40:46):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I just don't scientifically know the difference
between a wounded and a.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Hurt wounded dog.

Speaker 6 (40:51):
You're fighting back, you're mad, you're scratching your growling.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
Can you be wounded but not fight back?

Speaker 4 (40:57):
No? Not a dog.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
Dog always fights back if it's wounded. Yes, Well, Florida
hasn't won a game on the road all year, so
we haven't won a game at home. Well that's okay,
something's got to get here.

Speaker 4 (41:07):
Hey, we're due to lost the last.

Speaker 7 (41:10):
Two in Lexington. We have a win streak against Florida
and le season.

Speaker 5 (41:14):
Yeah, and we're under light so seven thirty SEC network
get Tom Hart for like the fifth week in a row.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Good, So that so that.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
Will be expect a wounded dog reference.

Speaker 5 (41:24):
Definitely got to expect a wounded dog reference. I want
to see us, I mean, I want to see us
play well, you know again, let's go to the Obrea game.
Everybody's like, oh, we only scored ten points. We did
hold them to three. And I don't care who you're
playing in the SEC. Playing a defense and hold a
team to three points through is impressive.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
I don't care who. I don't care who you're playing against.

Speaker 7 (41:43):
Yeah, that Tennessee game was ugly, but they bounced back quickly.
Not the same operation you're playing as Tennessee, but I'm
confident with them this week. This is also the team
last year, their freshman running back who's now sophomores still
on the team. He had five rushing touchdowns in the
Kentucky game. And you might remember Lagway only completed seven passes,
but they were all for like forty yards. So you've
you've've the defensive lines gotten much better two of the

(42:05):
last three games.

Speaker 5 (42:06):
Two of the last three games, our defense has essentially
shut the other team down. I mean we shut Texas
down and we shut Auburn down, so like that is doable.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
We'll be right back to KSR

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
