Speaker 5 (01:10):
Cats lose Last night in a disappointing game in Louisville
ninety six to eighty eight.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
I was up on the postgame show talking about it.
You can listen to that. We actually had really good
calls breaking the probably the most X and O uh
postgame show we've had.
Speaker 6 (01:28):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Mario and I were at the game. I'll just give
a couple quick thoughts and then pass to you guys
since you haven't got to talk about it. Ryan.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Amazing atmosphere at the game, I mean that was, uh,
that's probably that's probably as good at atmosphere they've had.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
In Louisville in ten years. I mean it was. It
was loud, pre pregame people were in there. A lot
of Kentucky fans made the trip up.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Low arena was ninety five percent Louisville, but you get
in the up arena and there was a lot of
Kentucky fans up there. Blue a lot of blue up
in the upper arena. So it was it was it
was a cool environment. Uh, it was.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
It was exciting without being like hostile like it used
to be.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
Uh, except for except for one or two you know,
examples of people saying punches were thrown.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
You know.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
It went from when I used to go to those
games and it would be blank you uh Matt to
the student section all told me I was number one,
which I thought was very nice of them to say.
For Louisville, it was like all that. It was like
their royalty in the crowd.
Speaker 7 (02:30):
You know.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
Obviously I saw you said Donovan Mitchell's was on TV
a little bit there.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
I didn't say, did they show him a lot?
Speaker 7 (02:36):
Maybe forty five times?
Speaker 4 (02:37):
Yeah, they had a ton of former players.
Speaker 7 (02:40):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
The it was a great It was a great environment,
and it was I would say probably the hardest environment
Kentucky will play in all year. I don't think they'll
get in a more wild environment than that basketball wise.
You know, for thirty minutes, I thought we played really
really poorly. Last ten minutes, I actually thought Kentucky played
pretty good. I wish they had done better down to
(03:01):
stretch in those last three minutes. But you go from
the ten minute mark to three minute mark, Kentucky showed,
in my opinion, how they can be a really, really
good team. But it was interesting who was on the
floor during that period of time, not necessarily who you
would have thought. I'll give you my quick takeaways. First
of all, negative, Really disappointed in the game. Really disappointed
(03:22):
our defense. Let's start with that defense. Just awful for
thirty minutes. Awful and honestly in the first half atrocious.
Got a little better in the second half, but just
atrocious in the first half. We gave up fifty one.
It could have been sixty if they you know, I mean,
they got every shot they wanted.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Very disappointed in Otega Away. I mean, I don't know,
just doesn't look like the same guy. I don't know
if it's something.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
I don't know if when he was going through the
NBA process people were saying to him, Hey, you gotta
shoot more threes, you gotta what But the guy that
went and tacked the basket and drew fouls and all that.
It's just we haven't seen that guy yet this year.
I liked Denzel Aberdeen was great. I liked the way
Lowe played most of the game. Really bad decision making
(04:08):
in the last three minutes. That's got to be better.
Brandon Garrison man, we got work on his defense. Phil
of sixty eight was talking about it. I was listening
to their podcast driving from louisll this morning. Five straight
possessions early in the game where we gave up shots,
four of which they made open threes, and they put
(04:28):
all of them on Brandon Garrison on his decision making.
I haven't seen the clip, but they put him all
on Brandon Garrison, saying he was in the wrong place,
didn't know where he was going, et cetera. Cut off
one time, knocked Aberdeen, so we couldn't guard the guy.
Gotta be better. And then you know, I put a
little bit on Pope. It took him too long to
realize we needed to go small. It took him too long.
(04:51):
We were out there fighting with guys. There were time
we had three guys who couldn't shoot on the floor
a lot of the time. And then once he said, okay,
let's go low Aberdeen, Chandler, Hey, let's put Cam Williams.
And then all of a sudden, looked like a different
team a little bit.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
So I put it.
Speaker 5 (05:07):
I think he got and he said that after game
it took him too long to change his coaching on
that he got out coached by Pat Kelsey yesterday.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
So that's my take.
Speaker 7 (05:15):
What about years The pace was insane. I mean that
pace was insane, and this Louisville handled it better than
Kentucky did. Whether they had twenty assists and only six turnovers.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
Yeah, they had twenty and six. We had fourteen assists
fourteen turnovers. I mean that's the game right there. Yeah, honestly,
you could just summarize it in that.
Speaker 7 (05:31):
And I think our defense didn't handle the pace very well.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
You're right.
Speaker 7 (05:33):
Our defense, which I thought was Remember I said elite
a leade A league did not look a leadi yet.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
Got in transition, no awful. Anytime they got in transition,
they would either give up a wide open shot immediately drew,
or in secondary transition give up a shot.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (05:48):
I have a very long list of complaints, but my
two biggest, and the reason they lost the game. You
both hit him there a little bit was the turnovers
and the points off turnovers, which you just said. And
then their best player showed up and our player, I'm
not even sure got on the bus. I said on
the pregame show, you cannot let Brown be the best
player tonight. It'll be game over because his best is
probably better than.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Every other one's best.
Speaker 8 (06:09):
Well, he was by far the best in the preseason
SEC Player of the Year. I'll be honest. When he drew,
he committed a foul at the end, I was hoping
it was his fifth, and it was his fourth. I
was like, I honestly wanted him to fill out because
he was hurting them on both ends. He just didn't
seem to be in the game at any moment. It
is not a good sign. Two things.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
One that our best frame, like our best time frame
of the game. Our two senior leaders were both not
in Oway in Diabate, and the our two worst plus
minus guys Wereway and Diabate.
Speaker 8 (06:45):
Like, that's not a good sign. A minus sixteen's crazy.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
Oway was minus sixteen, Diabate was like minus eleven. I
mean Oways minus sixteen. When we made the best the
best lineup that was on the floor was low Aberdeen
Chandler Williams and then either Moreno or Garrison. That was
the best lineup. When they brought Away in, we'd give
up points.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Again. I'm shocked by how he played last night.
Speaker 7 (07:11):
I didn't think we'd have a game all season where
he would be removed from the lineup in a late
game situation. I thought he was too valuable with this
team what they do, but Pope took him out. He
goes he was hurting them. I don't. The hearty dude
did a great job defensively on him, but not when
you're your best player, you've got to step up and
make plays well.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
And he also, I mean first he took bad threes.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
He did, but then it was clear he didn't want
to take him and he was like giving up an
open three to shoot a contested mid range, which is
not his game at all. I was just I was
really really some of the other weaknesses I could foresee.
I could have foreseen Garrisons not great in a pick
and row. I could have foreseen Low may take bad
shots down the stretch. You know, I could have foreseen
(07:53):
maybe we'll go cold. I just didn't foresee like Oway
at times being like the worst player on the floor.
Speaker 8 (08:01):
He needs lanes for his offense. We know he's got
a little bit archie good when in him he lowers
that head and gets to the rim. But it was
working last year. But that's because they had shooters around
him where he had the lane. When they're clogging up
the paint and last night and the ball sticking. He
doesn't have an offense, but that was only part of
his problems. He wasn't guarding. He had five turnovers. Yeah,
either McNeely or Cromwell hit a three at the top
(08:22):
of the key in the second half, wide open, and
o Way had just gotten lost and kind of threw
his arms up. It was his man. So it wasn't
just that the offense wasn't helping him out and giving
him opportunities. He was seemed like he wasn't even engaged
in anything.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Really surprising because I don't remember him having a game
like that even last year. I've said all year. I
said during the summer he can't be our best player.
He just can't because I don't I love that he
was first team preseason, this SEC Player of the Year.
I wasn't going to pick him for that just because
I just don't think he's that guy. I think he's
a great second option, but like one of these guys,
(08:58):
whether it's Low, whether it's Aberdeen, whether it's they're gonna
have to be our primary score and he's got to
be second.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
But he can't be.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Like nonexistent, which is what he was for a lot
of the game yesterday, and a net negative.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
It wasn't just that. I mean he scored twelve points,
but he was a net neggative.
Speaker 8 (09:13):
Five turnovers, five turnoffs, five fouls, so.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
He had five five mystery five.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
I mean, look, if you put it a different way,
you go one for six, for three, you missed five threes,
you have five turnovers, You've just given them ten runouts.
Speaker 8 (09:29):
Now throw on all your fouls.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
That's ten runouts, right and then the files. You just
can't do that, and that's your player of the year.
Speaker 7 (09:34):
I never would have projected that that could even possibly,
not even one time all season long, you know, with
media practiced. Josiah membery he told me, said, Dad, his
shot it broke.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
It's worse.
Speaker 7 (09:43):
It's worse. It's worse.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Like he now does this thing where like he moves
it in front of his face. He did that a
little last year, but it seems a lot more kind
of it's I agree, it's worse.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
And uh yeah, I was. I was disappointed, and I
was disappointed. I mean, hopes he got out coached. Now
he he he's a smart guy.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
Last ten minutes they switched, they changed, they got to
where they needed to be, and I think you'll in
the fut if we were to play Louisvill.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Again tonight, you'd see that line up a lot more.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
Yeah, but he taught me a new word last night's
dumb effort.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
What do you mean that's that's two words.
Speaker 7 (10:22):
Phrase, I phrase. I'd never heard that phrase used before,
dumb effort.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
Okay, well, he's right. I don't think we I don't
think we didn't try.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
We just were.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
We were in the wrong place over and over and over,
over and over and over and then again.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
They got they they fixed that in the second half,
but I think it just took too long.
Speaker 8 (10:43):
Drew and when they were switching everything, Louisville was getting
the matchup they wanted. That a lot of times involve
Brandon Garrison. Yes, that wasn't helping. They changed that up
a little bit in the second half it And know,
we all had memories of Duke and Gonzaga, like, well,
maybe Pope just likes to get in a hole. That
one was that thirteen oh run that did him in
in the first half. I know we had a little
bit of hope get within four that even felt like
fool's gold to me, the four or three pointers, that
(11:05):
was nice, but I mean Chandler pulled up from five feet.
Aberdeens was con Williams hits. It wasn't like the offense
found something. Those guys all just hit shots. So it
even when they got back in it, I didn't feel
like they were ever really stood a chance.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
Well, there was one moment when when when we when
Low got the tie up and we go to break
and we have the ball and it's a four point game,
and then he drives, he gets fouled. I said this
last night. He was passing the Chandler for a three.
I wish they hadn't called the foul. Chandler was wide
open in the corner. I'd like to have seen him
take that shot because that could have cut it to one.
(11:41):
And if he shoots that three and makes it, that crowd,
because that crowd was getting nervous. You could just tell
me broadcast, you could tell the crowd was getting nervous.
And I think if they had made that shot, but
then they called the foul and then Low misses the
free throw, that was that was tough because Aberdeen had
just missed a one on one like right before that.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
I mean, those are four points right there. If your
two guards got to hit those free I.
Speaker 8 (12:04):
Hated loose three in transition, even though they were hot.
I think he had numbers. They were getting downhill, he
was probably gonna draw a foul. Their big man was
back pedaling. I feel like it could have gotten easy too,
if you had kept going.
Speaker 7 (12:14):
That's the first thing I said to you, guys you
walked in. I screamed at the TV at that possision
last night. You cutting for you've got the ball, your
point guard has it. Instead of running any offense making
some execution, he jacked up with three from the logo.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
I didn't like it, and I didn't got he made two.
Missing that free throw and doing that was bad. With
that said, we ain't even.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
In the game.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
No, if not for him, like the offense without him
is a cluster. It really Now the offense with him,
if he shoots too much is But like you know,
the beginning of the game, some of that you could.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Remember the first couple of minutes, and then they put
him in and they they.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
Score immediately, had a couple of alley oop lobbs. As
soon as he gets into the game.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
What happened. By the way, we did a great job
early in the game at getting bigs unk.
Speaker 7 (13:00):
Yeah, and that just went away and the just completely
went away. It brought in whis Khalif his dad that
came out there.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Why do you keep saying that just because he's the
only person who.
Speaker 7 (13:09):
Khalif he looks like he's forty five years old.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
He does.
Speaker 8 (13:12):
He moves like it too. But he actually played Okay, Yeah, yeah,
Pope loves him. I do think that head band might
be doing some help for the hairline. Does seem a
little older than most players. Credit. I mean, your boy
Frew had some big dunks.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
After we make all that fun of frou.
Speaker 8 (13:28):
I got Ruths didn't really play much. I mentioned him
in the.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
Pre game, Yeah, but it was didn't do a lot.
Speaker 8 (13:33):
After talking Brown and conwell they're greaty four combined.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Well, they had the two best players on the floor.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
I mean, at the end of the game, if you
put two you put two even teams next to each other,
and then they have the two best players.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Yeah, they're gonna win. And that's that. That's what happened.
I mean, we it's some ways we were lucky only
lose Bike.
Speaker 7 (13:57):
And they were getting ready to run us off the
court there for a minute.
Speaker 8 (14:00):
Also, how many times do teams miss seven straight free
throws at the inner game and we got zero points
off of that. That is crazy for a team to
miss seventh straight and we did nothing.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
But that they have.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
They were up eighteen, they were up eighteen once and
twenty later and we still and both times we fought back.
So that's that's a good sign. But you know, Pope
sound in dejected after the game, and he should have.
That was a that was a bad performance. And what's
a little concerning is if you were to have said
to me after the game, who are the three players
that disappointed you the most, probably would have said, oh, way,
(14:34):
Diabate and Garrison, that's it. And that's like that should
be your three that are the most solid, you know, a.
Speaker 8 (14:43):
Road rivalry game. Those are three that I think show
up looking for a fight, and they engaged and.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
They were and they were probably our three most disappointing
players on the floor.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
AF I'm nine eight zero h twenty eighty seven. We'll
take your calls. This is probably what we're gonna be
talking about most of most of the day. This is
KSR welcome back. Tell you sports radio. Let's get some
text message comments. One person rights.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Matt, are you worried long term about the team or.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
Just disappointing the game? More disappointed than worried long term.
I mean, I think they're gonna be all right, but
I also think they gotta get some stuff set. I mean,
I like Low at the one, Aberdeen at the two,
but if we get games like that from Oway, you're
gonna have to start playing Chandler at the three. I
don't care what the NIO is for everybody else, right,
(15:29):
same thing for Moreno and Garrison. I mean, I'm you know,
we're getting close to me saying Moreno needs to be starting,
which I would have never imagined, especially right and maybe
more minutes for Yellvick. He probably slid his feet better
against Michel Brown than anybody on a couple of those switches.
Speaker 8 (15:46):
He had two great possessions guarding.
Speaker 7 (15:47):
He came off the bench, Give him a spark in
the first half. Cam Williams came off the bench, Give
him a spark in the second half.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
I like Aberdeen at the two because I think it
allows him to find his offense. And you kind of
have two just you have two guys who can distribute
in leads, so I like having those guys in at
the same time, do you Yeah.
Speaker 8 (16:04):
He turned it on and had one of the higher
scoring games Kentucky's had in the rivalry. But I'll admit
after back to back airballs which were in that thirteen
oh run, I was pretty tired of seeing him too.
Now he started making him after that. But he had
a rough stretcht.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Didn't we shot? How many airballs did we shoot?
Speaker 8 (16:21):
Aberdeen had three airball threes on his own.
Speaker 7 (16:24):
And that one stretcher talking about he had him two
back to back.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
How do you end up with? How do you if
you're Aberdeen? Either make it or it's an airball?
Speaker 8 (16:33):
Four for ten three were airballs, and you know we
all want Jasper to do well. But we kept hearing
about he and Brown in the same class, know each
other teammates. Brown looked like he's on another level. I
think he took four threes, but none of them looked
like even close a brief appearance for him last night.
Speaker 5 (16:50):
I don't understand why we went underscreen so much last night.
I mean, we went under screens.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
I don't know what. I don't know what that game
plan was or if guys just didn't eat it right.
But I mean, how many times we didn't stop that
doing that in the second half, but in the first
half we went under all. It was just giving up
shot after shot after shot.
Speaker 8 (17:08):
They don't even have good bigs.
Speaker 7 (17:10):
McNeely. When they did that a couple time with him, Man.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
How do you leave him? He can do one thing,
Make him beat you off the dribble. Plus we're so
long down low. Make them score over us. If they
do shake their hand and say okay, yeah.
Speaker 8 (17:23):
If Frew, who just got to college basketball, was like, wow,
this rivalry is crazy. If he's in there beating you,
all right, good job for I mean, if MIKEL.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
Brown beats us at the rim, fair enough, but then
make these other guys beat us at the rim.
Speaker 8 (17:35):
Don't let him shoot threes. Until Louisville's credit. It didn't
help that they had an answer every single time Kentucky
did something, especially at the end when we were dreaming
a little bit at that three point play.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
That was a huge play that was playing the game.
And who ended up on him, Garrison. I think they switched.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Yeah, I mean you anytime mckail Brown's got the ball
and there's a pick and roll and it's Low and Garrison.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
It's over like.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
Pope, like they need to make it to where they're
just there's a universal We cannot make low on Brown.
You know, I just say to Aberdeen or O way,
you do not leave him no matter what, because they
kept ending up with that and he's just not gonna
be able to guard him. It kind of reminds me
of Kobe Bray last year in some ways did different players,
but there's just guys Kobe Bray couldn't guard.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Lowe's not gonna be able to guard a dude like
mckil brown.
Speaker 7 (18:22):
And why not put the about the five when you're
in a late game situation.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
He was glad though.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
He can he can, but he also I mean, he
made some terrible reading. That's why he wasn't in at
the end.
Speaker 8 (18:35):
So Quaintans can't get back soon enough. I truly believe
some of their layups would have ended up in the
third row of the game because Garrison is just not
a shot blocker and that's where he specializes.
Speaker 7 (18:44):
We just gotta win the football game, now, that's all
we need. To win the football game, and forget it
that would be hilarious.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
That's what you're that's what you're You're for.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
The next week, two weeks, a little over two weeks.
Bring on the football, all right.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
So we played Michigan State on Tuesday. Completely different team,
like more like Purdue than like Louisville. Do you feel
good about that game? I do.
Speaker 8 (19:07):
They don't shoot very well. Now it is in New York,
I hope we're not doing the whole the whole team
gets engaged in Central Park and we go see Lynn manual.
All right, that we can do that later. I like
that too, but this is a business trip. Let's get
focused and go win a New York City game against
a team they can't shoot. I'm glad they had their
Christmas party last year. I love New York Christmas too.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
But yeah, we did, we did. We We shot up
smoked them.
Speaker 8 (19:31):
Their holiday vacation.
Speaker 7 (19:33):
You know, I really thought we would have trouble against
a team like Purdue, but then they proved me wrong
in that exhibition game. So I'm not worried about the
playing teams like that. I'm more worried about teams now
they're played like Alabama and Louisville.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
So part of the thing I said this towards the
very end of the post game show last night, a
caller made this point. He made a really good point.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
All right, So last year, I firmly believe if you're
trying to figure out how this Kentucky team ended up,
you got to go back to last year, and specifically
you got to go back to the three games against Alaba,
because I think we could have played Alabama thirty times
last year and not one. Right, we just could not
guard them. And I think Mark Pope, after being years
(20:11):
at BYU and Utah Valley and playing big twelve teams,
he kind of saw those Alabama games. I mean he
said this to me back in the spring, we gotta
get got we gotta get a team of guys who
can play in that game. Yep, right, because we scored
we actually in those Alabama games. If you go back,
shut the ball pretty well just to stay in it.
So I think he built this roster thinking about playing
(20:33):
against the Alabama type teams.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
Louis is one of those teams, is right. They're one
of those teams this year. So you build a roster
to guard those guys, and you saw it inevitably lose
a little shooting, maybe lose a little offense, but the
idea is I Am not going to let them score
one hundred points on his easy and then we didn't
(20:56):
even guard That's what's frustrating to me. You built your
roster to have a shot.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
In games like that, and you sacrificed offense to try
to guard teams like that, and then we didn't guard
him any better than we did last year Drew And
that's frustrating.
Speaker 8 (21:13):
Yeah, I mean, looks like we've given up a little
bit of shooting to help out on defense. But if
the end results still the same, I'd rather just go
back to jacking up three. Yeah, have a better chance
of making them. We've played the game of who would
you take from last year's team put on this team
a few times. After last night, I'm changing my pick
to Lamont Butler and some defense in the back court. Also,
Lamont Butler killed Louisville last year. But those guards were
missing a sturdy defender in the back court.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
They should be aberdeen and always should be good defenders.
That's why they're here.
Speaker 8 (21:39):
In some ways, I think old Ways was just he
wasn't there, did not look like he was given full
energy Louisville was playing like they were on fire, and
Kelsey deserves credit for that. In olway looked kind of
like going through the motions a little bit. Someone on
Twitter is like, it looks like he's or A farming
out there and just trying to trying to look cool.
I know that's probably say or A farming just like
(22:00):
out of here. I'm just I'm o Taka Oway. I'm
the player of the year over here, look at me.
But a lot of guys are out there a little
more hungry and fighting.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
I've never heard the phrase aura farming. That's what you do?
Do you plant seed?
Speaker 8 (22:10):
What have you seen the kid on the canoe? You know, Mario,
what's his name? He's aura farming, aren't you the tiktokery?
Speaker 4 (22:17):
But I don't go into the aura farming now, look up,
look it up.
Speaker 8 (22:20):
That's that's what Oway was doing a little bit. I'm
trying to be a little too cool when a lot
of guys were hungry and playing with energy, trying to Actually,
I do.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Think a lot of our other guys did play hungry
and energy. I mean I did think Aberdeen uh Low,
Chandler uh Moreno, you know, I did think those guys
were even Garrison was not playing well, but he was
playing with energy. But there was a sense for me
that like nine of them were full speed.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
And then Oway was kind of I don't know he
was he was, he was, Yeah, there we go. We'll
take a break. Take your calls. R after this KSR.
T J. Smith personal and attorney called TJ. He'll make
them pay.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. If I'm nine two eight
twenty two eighty seven, one person rights man, I was
at the game. I saw the students flipping you off.
Uh you waved at him, and they didn't know what
to do. Yeah, I just went but I acted like
they were saying. I just went, yeah, thank you, I
am number one.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
No issues with you, though inside no, I thought it
was actually Uh, people were a lot nicer to me
than they used to be. Shows your time heals all wounds.
Yeah right. They saw a lot of people I hadn't
seen a long time. Saw Shannon's guy, Jerry Eves, yep, J.
Speaker 8 (23:38):
C. O.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Brown, like a lot of people from back in the
day that I, uh, the only person didn't talk from
pat Ford. He still didn't really seem to want to
talk to me.
Speaker 7 (23:45):
See Vince, I did.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
I saw Vance. Didn't get to talk to him, but
I saw Vance. Vince was set a little part of
the game by the k pinch.
Speaker 8 (23:53):
What color was he wearing?
Speaker 4 (23:55):
He was wearing red, but like I think he was
barely neutral purple Yeah, uh yeah, I think he was
like he was got a half into it.
Speaker 7 (24:04):
I did see Mario take his camera up in the
Louisville cheering section.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Yeah, I look up Mario's in the Louisville student section.
I was like that more. UK was like, watch him
be careful, we can't protect him.
Speaker 7 (24:15):
Get him out of say, kicked the UK kid out.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
So I don't know who this kid is, but let
me give a shout out to this kid. A kid
went in the u of L student section, one kid
in blue.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
And apparently did not have a ticket for that. Like
he wasn't even a UFL student. He was just like
I almost sitting in the u of L student section
with the UK shirt and he was like and they
kicked him out, But I give him credit for trying.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
That's a boss move, you know what.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
I mean just what he was at UFL student. That's
the UK fan. He just went in there and was like,
I'm a student now. I like that.
Speaker 8 (24:49):
It's my spirit animal.
Speaker 9 (24:50):
You know.
Speaker 8 (24:51):
At the football game, was it two years ago where
we wanted Louisville, there was that one UK fan doing
L's downeos of all time? Yeah, yeah, I still think
about that. Yeah, I hope he's doing well. He represented
us well at their stadium.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
He's a he's a jiff or whatever. Oh yeah. On
online you can look him up and if you look
at L's Down, I think he's the first person that
comes up.
Speaker 7 (25:12):
Well. The poor kid that Mario went to interview in
the student section last night looked like he was scared
to death for a little while.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
He should have been. They were the rowdiest people, they were.
Their student section was good last night. I mean they listen,
they had they had a really good uh, they had
a really good atmosphere the entire time.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
I mean it was it was you know, I'm glad
we got to do that because we're gonna face that
in the SEC.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
But that'll probably be the best atmosphere we get all year.
I would think proud they've had there and what's like
eight years. How about the first sellout since COVID. That's crazy,
that's crazy. They haven't sold a game out since COVID.
That's nuts, isn't it. Yeah?
Speaker 8 (25:47):
And I don't want to complain about this after loss.
Luckily we've been complaining about since it started. But I
even today hate the game being where it was.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
I mean, credit to.
Speaker 8 (25:56):
Them, it still matters. We got to hold our l
but it would still be better down the road because
we're just there's too much going on right now. It
snuck up on us and then we're gonna move on
to the next football still here. I wish the game
was isolated further in the season.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
Shannon, this is probably for you as a Louisville guy.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
It was interesting to me because I did the pregame
show at the studio, which, for people who don't know,
that's on four Street right right. Yeah, And so Mario
and I left the studio to walk to the game,
and four Street was as dead as anything's ever been.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
It's dead all the time, all the time.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
What you would think before the uku of L game,
there'd be people in there dead, dead dead. I saw
Gordon Bierce's has closed even in the last couple of weeks,
so dead dead. So I was like, man, poor Louisville downtown.
But then it just looks like everything's moved down next
to the river, Shannon, because like all those bars and
restaurants down next to the river, those two or three
streets were packed with.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
People down on Market Street.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
And yeah, so that Market main Street, so what used
to be people.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
So people always say Downtown's dead. Four Street is the
deadest thing that's ever existed.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
No clubs there anymore, nothing all gone, but that Market
Street Main Street has new things coming in.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
So it was interesting channing just to see how much
downtown's changed, even in the last few years.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Yeah, I mean Ford Street used to be the place
to go to. You had club after club and you
would just bounce around from bar to bar. But now
it's all restaurants. Guy here he is down your.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
Road like Goyier. He's was dead, like it was all dead.
But then once you got down close arena, it was wild.
It was like kind of a cool atmosphere.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
So all right, who's up first, Let's go to Cindy.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
Cindy, go ahead, Cindy, Hey.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Thanks for taking my call on Kentucky till I die.
Can any of you all tell me if Donovan Mitchell
was that the game?
Speaker 4 (27:38):
He was at the game?
Speaker 6 (27:39):
Yes, I think that was. He was the only one
they showed. I think as I didn't want to lose,
but I sure got tired of seeing him and go cats,
I'll see you in New York.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
Yeah, Ryan, you made a joke about that. You were
being mister funny man online.
Speaker 7 (27:56):
I think they showed Donovan Mitchell more than he showed
Pat Kelsey during the broadcast, and I am not even
making joking about that. They absolutely did.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
Do you think Mark Pope got out coached? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (28:05):
Yeah, I don't want to end game and just getting
them ready. I mean from the tip, Louisville seemed to
want it a lot more.
Speaker 7 (28:11):
I think Pope finally made some good adjustments, but it
waited way too late to do That's what.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
So I feel good that he made the adjustments. We've
had coaches that would have never made an adjust truth.
We did make an adjustment, but it was too late,
too late, And I'm not just saying Cam Williams Okay.
I mean I think that was part of it, but
you know, Pope didn't know that. Camp Kim Williams Hadding
hit a shot all year, so he didn't know he
was going to do that. I just mean the idea
of spreading it out and going small, Like we waited
(28:36):
way too long to go small. We kept trying to
force like this Diabate Garrison thing is going to work.
One of those two guys, This is my prediction, one
of these two guys ended up on the bench because
I don't think those two dudes Drew can play together.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
I just don't.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
Against a lot of teams, them playing together just kills
our offense.
Speaker 8 (28:56):
Yeah, it was the non shooting lineups for way too long,
which we thought we had gotten away from that with
the last regime that didn't have enough shooters on the court.
This team, I worried that that'll linger, and that's what
hurts O way he can't get to the lanes. I
just maybe Trent Noah's the answer. But the shooting has
to get more consistent. Of this offense is gonna continue
to be saying why didn't know a play?
Speaker 7 (29:15):
You think you know? He said he went through warmups
with his ankle. Maybe he tweaked it during warm ups,
or maybe he just felt like he couldn't.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
He would have probably wasn't a great game for him,
But you know, I'd like to just it wouldn't have
been the worst to say, Okay, maybe he could have
played that Cam.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
Williams role and been the four just shooting threes. I
don't know, what do.
Speaker 7 (29:34):
You think was the most efficient lineup last night?
Speaker 5 (29:38):
The lineup that I thought was the best was was
low Aberdeen Chandler Williams. Moreno, to me, that was the
lineup that was when the team looked the best.
Speaker 7 (29:51):
They didn't play that lineup much, did they.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Well, they did down the stretch.
Speaker 5 (29:54):
Those guys played down the stretch for a while and
then they bring O Way in and Garrison. They kind
of would switch Chance and uh moreno for sometimes putting
in Away and Garrison. But like at the end of
the game, Johnson didn't play, No, Diabatte didn't play.
Speaker 8 (30:09):
I'm with you though on the Williams saying he looked great.
Both of the shots, had four rebounds in like ten minutes, but.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
He didn't know that.
Speaker 8 (30:15):
If you're Mark Pope, you don't pull into Louisville thinking
I'm an unleash, struggling snaight.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Just based on what.
Speaker 8 (30:20):
We've seen now, it's great that he did it, and
hopefully we get more of it. But I can't put
Pope on nothing early, just how bad he's looking.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
But i'd like to have seen maybe early in the
second half, yell of it, Yelovitch. I thought I had
a good first half, so I'd like maybe to see
him a little bit instead. I just know, I knew
last night that diabatea Garrison thing was not gonna work.
Who's next, Let's go to Dustin, Dustin, go ahead, Dustin.
Speaker 9 (30:43):
Hey, Matt, so I have some scuttle butt I'm gonna need.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
We don't wanting on a strangers scuttle butt, so you
just have to say, all right.
Speaker 9 (30:54):
All right, all right. So I went to the remote yesterday, guys,
and great show, and I did an interview with your
media team and h. While I was there, I decided
to go to the game. So I went, and after
the game, I didn't want to fight traffic, so I
went to a bar, yeah on Main Street, and so
(31:14):
made some friends with some woolvilloe and Kentucky fans was
talking to them. They went outside to smoke and they
were talking to somebody in Kentucky gear. So here's the
scuttle butt. And so while they're talking to this person
in Kentucky gear, they asked how long they were Kentucky fans.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
Okay, now you got to get to the scuttle butt, quicker,
This is a lot of lead in what's the scuttle butt?
Speaker 4 (31:35):
Yeah? Okay.
Speaker 9 (31:36):
So so the person said that they're a diehard Wolvil fan,
but they worked for KSR. And they asked, well, why
are you working for KSR? And they did the Calzada
money hands and I showed them somebody.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
That they're talking about. Are you talking about? Are you
talking about Olivia that just started? Yes, okay, all right,
well there were pictures of her in Louisville gear and yeah,
well I.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
Appreciate I appreciates calling. I don't know you call it.
He's calling people out.
Speaker 7 (32:13):
Yeah, I think he deserves a wanting nine nine for that.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
Yeah, witch switch the UK, But I guess that's well
more disappointment.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
Tom Mario Mario. Tom Mario Mario is the one that
founder everyone. Tom Mario.
Speaker 8 (32:29):
Everyone I've vetted and heard on the website. They've bet haters.

Speaker 8 (33:13):
That's right for a second.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
She's done a good job.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
But we're gonna have to We're gonna have to ask
about this loyalty that he can't be where he can't
be rooting for the cards.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
We'll take a break. Very back to Kentucky Sports Radio.
Were come back? It is Kentucky Sports Radio text machine.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
Uh, A couple of people calling that caller a narc
and then a couple of people saying that's what you get,
Matt when you hire one person rights Matt, you once
hired a Vandy fan too, but that worked out?
Speaker 7 (33:42):
Who me?
Speaker 4 (33:43):
You? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Well he talking about I mean, I've been a Kentucky fan,
but I've always disclosed that I was a Vanderbook Fanny.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
It was when I got you you were a Vandy fan,
and you've come around.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Sure, But I was also a Kentucky fan as a
kid growing up, like both teams.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Yeah, he grew up one to play for Bob Knight.
That's true. You, Drew and I are the only true
fans on this show.
Speaker 7 (34:04):
When I was a kid, I was definitely gonna play
point guard for Bob Knight, no doubt about it. Man,
look at the effort.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
And you who did you like when you were a kid?
Speaker 5 (34:11):
No?
Speaker 4 (34:12):
Just no teams? Okay, you can't pause. What's the answer.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Kentucky was a Florida fan?
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Was Bill was a Florida fan when he was younger?
Speaker 7 (34:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (34:25):
But but so you know, hopefully you end up winning
them over. One person writes Matt. The biggest upset of
last night was not Louisville beating Kentucky. It was that
you were the best dancer on the Twist video.
Speaker 7 (34:36):
Truth We've said, believe, I've told you all.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
Nobody believe me.
Speaker 7 (34:40):
I've seen you dance, You've got rhythms. I knew you'd
be the.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
Best one ranking them.
Speaker 5 (34:45):
I think I would probably go this is just objectively
me one, Drew two, Mario three, Ryan four. Shannon, you
were the worst, which is crazy because you're in a band.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
You would think you would.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Be you Chubby Checkers, the twelve Swim.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Understand that you would think you would at least have rhythm.
Speaker 7 (35:02):
I do.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
I just wasn't putting any effort into the video.
Speaker 7 (35:05):
People were asking about the face you were making when
you did.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
I was doing A couple of people, wait, man, a
couple of people recognize that was Vincent Vega from from
pulp Fiction. That's the face he's making when he's doing that.
He's doing the the jack Rabbit slim twist.
Speaker 7 (35:21):
Count like you had a tummy issue or something.
Speaker 5 (35:23):
No, I mean that was that was a couple of
people got the reference kind of thing. But Shannon was disappointed.
All these people wrote me and they're like, oh, we
didn't know you're good.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
I told you. I've told people.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
It wasn't that good. Slowdown.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
First of all, it was good.
Speaker 7 (35:38):
I mean, Janet Reno has talked about your dancing for
thirty years.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
First of all, I think she's passed away.
Speaker 7 (35:43):
Rest in peace, dance partner.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
Yes, one person rights Matt.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
Now, after this game, we have five games left against
power non conference teams.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
How many do we win? All right?
Speaker 5 (35:54):
So Michigan State, North Carolina, Indiana, Saint John's.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Who our other one? Kazak, what's our record those five games?
Speaker 8 (36:06):
I had us at undefeated in the non conference. So
I am already prediction. I feel better about Michigan State.
I think they'll respond. They don't have shooters. The Saint
John's when I'm looking to, is the potential and all still.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
I mean they play like Louisville. Yeah, you know, I
mean they're gonna be. They're gonna be a lot like Louisville.
Speaker 5 (36:24):
Probably not quite as athletic, but maybe better shooters than Louisville.
Speaker 8 (36:27):
And Pope I don't care what he says. Looking over
and seeing Rick Patino has to get in his head
just a little bit. I mean, that was his coach.
I know he's gonna want to win it, but that's
that will affect him seeing his old boss over there.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
I must say we win the two home games Indiana
North Carolina. I think we beat I think we I
think we lose to Saint John's and then we'll split Gonzaga.
In Michigan State. I think we need to beat Michigan
State Mischief.
Speaker 5 (36:55):
If all those teams, they're the worst one and that's
who we play next week. So I think that becomes
a very important game for us next.
Speaker 8 (37:01):
Weeknzaga, didn't they like kill Creton last night?
Speaker 7 (37:04):
Yeaeah, yeah, Zaga maybe's better than I thought.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
I'm with you.
Speaker 7 (37:08):
I think I think they go three and two of
these last five games. But I think North Carolina just
lost one of their stars or something. Didn't one of
their star players just out for the season or something?
Who I don't know. I thought I heard him say
that last night. Jay Billis was talking about it. Gonzaga
North Carolina. Oh yeah, Seth Tremble. He broke his arm
lifting weights. Did you read that story?
Speaker 4 (37:25):
I didn't. I saw it.
Speaker 8 (37:26):
Weight Room Mouse.
Speaker 5 (37:27):
Said like it said, like something the bench or whatever
collapsed and then collapsed on his arm and broke it.
Speaker 7 (37:34):
That's what it was.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Yeah, that looked that's that seemed awful.
Speaker 8 (37:37):
The headline I saw was vague, but it suggested that there's.
Speaker 5 (37:40):
Four people to lift off of him whatever it was
that fell in his arms.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
A basketball player lifting that much weight anyway, I don't
know football player, but I.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
Mean if it takes four four guys to lift it
off of you, that's all right.
Speaker 7 (37:55):
Me too.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
That's why who's up them?
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Where they're at?
Speaker 7 (37:58):
Justin?
Speaker 4 (37:59):
Yeah? Who needs to move the justin? Go ahead? Justin?
Speaker 10 (38:03):
Two statements and enough question. Uh, I've never been to
a Louisville and take a game till last night. But
you said that inside it wasn't that bad, and I agree.
But I was standing outside and probably got five things
thrown at me before I even went in the door.
So I thought that was crazy.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
Wa I mean you had people throwing things at you outside?
Speaker 10 (38:24):
Yeah, fireball, two gatorades, and two beer cans.
Speaker 5 (38:28):
Well, well, let me ask you a question just out
of curiosity. Were you were you saying anything or you
were just standing there.
Speaker 10 (38:33):
Silently, just standing there.
Speaker 8 (38:36):
We're standing next to recycling.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
Then that just sounds like to put the trap out.
Speaker 5 (38:40):
Well, I'm sorry you had to deal with that. That's
it feels like it feels like a little aggressive on
their part.
Speaker 10 (38:46):
And then uh, I thought, obviously old way not playing good.
And you know, but like I thought, Louisville took advantage
of the matchup problems that we had, and then we
never did because like Neely couldn't guard anybody on the court,
and does seemed like we didn't put him any And then.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
I think that's a great point. I mean they would
get McNeely.
Speaker 5 (39:08):
I would have said anytime low Aberdeen or o Way
is one on one with McNeely, clear him out and
take him to the basket. And we didn't do that.
And I and and and I don't know why exactly,
because that that's shit. You're right, you got to take
advantage of that when he if he's going.
Speaker 7 (39:24):
To be in.
Speaker 10 (39:27):
Yeah, And then my question is it didn't have anything
to do with the end result. But do you know
why they didn't review the out of bounds in the
last minute. It was a close play and they just
never went to.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
I think I think you have to.
Speaker 5 (39:40):
I think you have to have a challenge, don't you
even in the last two Excuse me, so in the
last two minutes they will review.
Speaker 4 (39:48):
As I understand it, and I could be wrong about this.
This isn't the new rule. They'll review everything except out
of bounds.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
The out of bounds you still have to have a
challenge because they didn't want to get to what they
had last year where they were reviewing every single out
of bounds play at the end of game. So I
think even in the last two minutes, the ref can
initiate a challenge, but on out of bounds you still
have to have the one from from the game.
Speaker 10 (40:13):
Okay, well I didn't know.
Speaker 5 (40:16):
But appreciate the call. Yeah, I mean, I think because
remember last year they were getting the point in the
last two minutes, they just reviewed every single play out
of bounds, and I think they're getting rid of that.
So so refs can initiate a challenge in the last
two minutes, but it has to be like a goaltend
or a charge or something like that.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
It can't be an out of bounds.
Speaker 7 (40:32):
And Pulpit already used his challenge and lost, so he
didn't have any left.
Speaker 5 (40:36):
And what's bad is he uses the challenge and then
I think on the next play we would have won
the challenge, and he used it on the wrong one and.
Speaker 8 (40:43):
The one he challenged in real time, I even thought
it was Louisvill's bass, Like what are you doing? Then
we needed one replay to know that they had a right.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
They may have to have somebody just with like a
little TV over there looking because he that would ended
up being and that ended up being a big play
because literally with a minute left they might have been
able to get that there.
Speaker 7 (41:01):
I think that would have been a huge turnaround for Kentucky.
They were able to have had that challenge and win
it and get the ball back.
Speaker 5 (41:07):
By the way sitting there in the first half, this
is another thing. It was clear the refs were letting
them play. Now in the second half, I thought they
called it a lot closer, but in the first half
they were letting them play, and Louisville just was more
physical than we were.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Like they were on drives to the basket. They were
hitting our guys and we're not getting fouls, and then
we weren't hitting them back, you know. We that changed
a little bit in the second half, but in the
first half, very few foul calls. And I don't think
Kentucky match You got to play to the way the
referees are calling the game.
Speaker 7 (41:37):
That's where Otega excels. That's his game man taking contact
and finishing.
Speaker 5 (41:42):
That's a great point when he sees that, he should
be like, all right, this is my this is my time. Yeah,
and it's because I was sitting.
Speaker 4 (41:50):
I was actually in the Louisville player family section. What
I know. It was kind of odd and one of
the players families, I won't say which one said they
listen to our show every day, said I actually.
Speaker 7 (42:02):
Think you are so wis Kalifa listening?
Speaker 5 (42:06):
They were the Germans. That's exactly right. We will take
a break and come back. We are here, ks Bar.
It is Week's day, Dollar weeks.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
Come back our twos Kentucky Sports Radio
