Speaker 2 (01:03):
Now here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Welcome back out number two Kentucky Sports Radio. If I'm
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine
seven seven two seven seven four five two five four
one person rites, Matt, you're the king of I. I'm
telling you a story, but not telling Yes, that's probably true.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Keep and one more. Now what you just said told us?

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Well no, but I have to say, like I'm explaining
to you how he got Joe there. And I could
have just said we never talked to him and act
like that didn't happen. But it did, and I watched it,
and it mattered. I'd love to tell listen, I'd love
to take I just there would be people who would
punch me if I said that, And so I'm I

(01:43):
can't do that. But it was, you know, it was
it was. It just told me that Mark Stoops was
gonna do what it took to win here, and they did.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Yes, I can share a fun line from that night.
I'd still still embarrassed about it. Joe Kraft was to him,
all right, I've never felt small or even him till that.
N I mean, I new I've but I never met him,
never question. And I remember we're ordering and Joe ordered,
and then it came time for me to order, and
I ordered the fries with j C sauce and I said,
what is j C sauce? And the servers like, it's
the Joe Craft sauce. And I just slid under the
table because Joe Hurdan kind of winked at me. But

(02:14):
on the menu is the j C.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Sauce. That's pretty good. That's how you know. Uh yeah,
that's how you know. One person writes, Matt, uh, well,
he actually takes some shots at me, but then he says,
you should work on the way you talk to people
on the phone. I you may be right about that,
but when I say, hey, everybody, we're not going to
talk about this, and then you start talking about it,
and then I say we're not talking about that, and

(02:36):
then you talk over me and keep talking about it.
If you a rule is not a rule without what
a punishment you have to have to because if you don't,
then you encourage I like Jerry. I've been much meaner
to Jerry than that. And he'll call back. But we
were talking about stoops. Now, if Jerry called I would
let him talk about this, which is no, which is

(03:00):
what's next Okay, so that first of all, do you
think we'll have someone? Do you think they are already?
There are people who believe they already have someone. I
tend to not think that's true. Do you think they
already have someone?

Speaker 1 (03:17):
I don't think they have someone, but I think Mitch
had probably been doing his due diligence for about a month.
Just line up some guys just in case.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
I think they they do that a lot though. Yes,
But like you don't expect an announcement tomorrow. No, you
gotta move quick in this. There are players right now
looking for a place to go. Signing day is Wednesday.
With them, you think they might do it tomorrow. No,
I'm just saying they have to now. I'm gonna disagree
to do it tomorrow soon soon, Okay. I don't know
if they do it tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Maybe not bout tomorrow precisely, but I'm gonna disagree with
the right. I think the fact that they didn't weren't
even prepared to fire stoops, it tells me they were
not ready for this. There should have been a plan
in place before you even kicked off against Louisville.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
I think they had a list, like you said, But
I know. I don't think they have a part.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Now.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Maybe I'll be wrong, maybe they'll announce it today. I
do think though. Let's talk about two people that the
names that are coming up the There are three people
whose names I think are on the list, and maybe
are the three people, Will Stein, Brian Hartline and Dan mullene.
So let's talk about why each one of them. Will
Stein from Lexington, from Louisville. Yeah, dad played at Kentucky. Correct,

(04:22):
he played at Louisville, played with Teddy Bridgewater, right am?
I right about that?

Speaker 1 (04:27):
I'm quack quarterback.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I think he was the quarterback guy taken out Teddy
Bridgewater came in maybe against us.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
And there will be people that tell you that he
wanted to go to Kentucky. There just wasn't really a spot. Yeah, school,
grew up a Kentucky fan, grew up a Kentucky fan.
So even though he played at Louisville and all that.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Blood was Kentucky offensive coordinator at Oregon. Most people think,
really creative mind. There's a YouTube video out there that
you should watch today. It is Will Steining explaining his
principal Will Stein explaining his principles of offense for like
nine minutes. You want to getst a sense of who

(05:02):
that guy is, go watch that YouTube video. That's will Stein.
He says, I feed the studs. He said, to make
sure my guys get the ball. The guys they need
the ball, get the ball. Oregon is in the playoff.
They will not be playing though, in the championship game.
I think that's important. If you're talking to a coordinator
who's playing in the championship game. They're a little busy
this week. Will Stein is busy, but he ain't as

(05:23):
busy as them.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
True.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Something to think about Brian Hartline, what's his job is he.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Oc receivers in the receiver room. Loves him and that's
the Ohio State receiver.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Ohio State receivers Brian Hartline. You may recognize that name.
Mike Hartlines his brother that was our quarterback and he
was on the staff right now, and he's on the
staff right now, play a big role with Bowlie. People
couldn't know more about the UK program than Brian Hartline.
I have a very good source, like the sourciest of

(05:54):
sources that says if we offered the job to Brian Hartline,
he would take it.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Okay, I don't know that we've offered it or even Will,
but I know write it down. If we offered him
the job, he would be the coach absent him getting
another better job.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Huh okay, And they are playing this weekend.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
They are playing this weekend though, I think that's important.
Then the third guy's Dan Mullen took Mississippi State to
number one in the country, which is crazy to think about.
Coached at Florida. Didn't do great at Florida, but in
hindsight did better than people give him credit for when
you compare to the other coaches that were at Florida

(06:33):
now at UNLV and in one year got UNLV good
and they might have been the worst program in the
country for many years. I think those are your top
three contenders. There may be others, others may emerge, but
I know Mark, I know that Mitch Barnhart will be
interested in all three of those. And if there's a
list of four or five, those will be three. What

(06:55):
do we think of those three contenders? For me?

Speaker 4 (06:58):
And it seems like a lot of the fan base
Will Stein and Brian Hartline are on their own tier
up here, like get one of those two and everybody
I will be happy Stein. I think people Obviously his
offense is a lot of fun. He's done great at
Oregon with multiple quarterbacks, but just the connection. We like
having one of our own group Kentucky fan family season
ticket holders. We kind of give that a bump, and

(07:19):
he's deserving in a hot name right now. Heartline, though,
is maybe the best recruiter in the country at Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
We all know the Ohio.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
State receiver room. He's had that job for a long time.
Their fifth best receiver gets drafted. The potential of him
bringing some of those guys with him and some of
that Ohio State juice that he's had for a while
can recruit the state of Ohio. And as you whoever
just said it, more so than Stein, he knows what's
going on more than anyone because his brother has been
hand in hand with Cutter Bowley's development.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
The strengths and the weaknesses of the program. Mike will know,
and Mike will tell Brian who to keep who not
to keep.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Yeah, yeah, So I love both of those options. I
might lean Stein just because you know, being a fan,
I would love having one of our own. Not that
Brian Heartline doesn't like UK but either one of those
and I'd be very happy.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
I so you would lean Stein, but it's fifty one.
Stein's just not as proven. Let's say it was Dan Mullen.
Would you be mad. I'd be a little disappointed. Wasn't
one of the other two.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
And I think back to Mullan kicking our tail at
Mississippi State every year. I think he went to eighth
straight Bowl games there. I didn't love him as a
just a person back then. Might have to delete some tweets,
but his record's undeniable. I would say, I want.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
It to be. I'll take either Stein or Heartline and
be thrilled. I've kind of flipped in the last twenty
four hours. I kind of the more I hear about
Heartline and think about him recruiting Ohio, he might have
slightly gotten ahead of Stein. But what I'd want to
do is just talk to both of them and see
who do you think it is? Like I kind of
do trust the judgment of the people that will make

(08:52):
that decision. If they got those two guys in a room,
you figure out which one's best. Mullen, I'm kind of
like you definitely third. I wouldn't love it, but I
wouldn't hate it. I don't think it's you could do worse,
but I'm of the disbelief ran go get a young guy,
all right. Adam Luckett said it great on the KSR

(09:13):
thing yesterday. Swing for the fences. Yeah, if you hit
a foul ball in three years, we'll swing again. But
let's go see if we can find Elie de la Cruz.
And let's stop bringing in retreads. Right, it doesn't work,
it doesn't work, but let's go for the fences. Because
here's the difference between now and in past years. Now,
if they win, we could keep them Like Kurt Signetti,

(09:38):
we could keep them used to be if anybody had
any real success, they'll be gone. But now we can
keep them in this new era. So let's swing for
a superstar. Let's swing for our Signetti. Maybe we don't
get it, but I think I'd rather do that than
bring in a guy like Mullin, who I feel like
would do fine. But we're six or seven wins and
we're probably solid. Why don't we swing for the fences

(10:01):
to be great?

Speaker 1 (10:02):
So are there some guys out there that they should
at least make ghost say no swing for the fences,
like no.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
But I think those guys are swinging. I don't want
John Gruden. I don't want that. Do We saw it
with Belichick. It didn't work and he hadn't coached it
how long? Yeah, I mean I like, but I mean,
if he comes, I'll talk myself into it. But like,
I don't want that. It's not that's not working right now.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
That's the UK Athletics higher. Let's do something that would
have been good in the year two thousand.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Yeah, exactly, that's exactly right. That's let's go buy my space.
Don't give him that idea. Man, don't do it. No,
take out a loan and do it. Let's so when
I say swing for the fences, I mean swing for
like Will Stein or Brian Hartline is going to get
offered a great job one day. Let's try to beat
him to.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
It in a heartline name service at Penn State.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
And maybe he goes and does that, and well, you
can't help that if that happened.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Yeah, but it'd be nice if he got him here
and with heartline. Ohio State eight fans love him and
talked about him replacing Ryan Day eventually. Now, Ryan Day's
gonna be there a long time now. That he want
a championship. But you know, if Ohio State loves him,
I think we can love him too.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
You know, when Mullen was at Florida, they he left
kind of a messy situation, now know, And he left right.
I don't think the people were real happy with him.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Well, but they're Florida. They haven't been happy with anybody.
They fired like this because he lost Kentucky. But if
you look back at all the dudes since Spurrier that
they've gotten mad about, he's been better than all of them.
Ess urban Meyer was really but besides, but like all
these kind of no name guys, he was better than
all them.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Will Stein's mid thirties, broad Hertlin's not forty, probably just
beneath it. Mullen's got to be in his mid fifties.
I'm ballparking here. I love just youth. Like you said,
if you could keep them, maybe you have something for
a long time. I want a young guy, like I
want a dude. They need to be mige or younger,
in my.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Opinion for this new era, somebody that's hungry, yes, well,
hungery for sure, Yeah, like for sure, I think most
of these guys would be hungry. Even Dan Mullen's probably
hungry because he's embarrassed way Florida ended and he's coaching
at UNLV where eight people are at the games. But
I think will Stein and Brian Hartline like they're gonna
make or break their career if they come here, all right,

(12:15):
so they're gonna want to do whatever they can do.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Another will Stein Engel is our QB of the future.
Pass cutter U Ponasowski, who pushed back his signing day
a little bit, still committed. Oregon was second, and will
Stein was his recruiter, so you got movie two horse
race for him. So if he were gonna step away
or you know, with our opening, if he were considering
stepping away, bringing in the guy that finished second, and
the recruitment's a pretty good idea too.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Do you think go ahead?

Speaker 1 (12:38):
You think Mitch is making these calls like this morning
right now?

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Yes, yes, it's happening as we speak. I think the
question is who are the decision makers? Last time it
was Mitch Barnhardt, Dwayne Peevey and Tim Couch. That was
the group that hired Marks Tubes. They had more time though,
they went and interviewed like five guys I think interview
like Sonny Dykes, that dude that ended up at Colorado,

(13:02):
I can't remember his name. There was like the Lincoln
was one. There was like the special teams coordinator for
the Dallas Cowboys or something. There was like five guys.
I don't think they have time to do that. Now.
I'm just gonna guess what I think the group would be.
And this is a guest. Probably Mitch Barnhart, the guy
that's in Dwayne Peevie's role is now Mark Hill. And

(13:23):
then let I think I think Barnhart likes to have
a player kind of person. Remember he had Mike Pratt
when he hired col right right, he had Tim Couch
when he hired Stoops. It would make sense if it
was Tammy since Tammy's on that board. Huh, wouldn't that
make sense? It's perfect sense. So I don't know if
that's the group. Plus Tammy is very much like Barnhart,

(13:47):
you know, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Like I could totally
see Barnhart saying, Jacob, you want to come do this.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Tammy just put out a long tweet about Stoops too.
What did it say? Uh, it's a lot to read
a lot of thinking. But it ends with recentcies and
have been disappointing. The factors required to win at the
highest level of college football has shift dramatically. For Kentucky
football to take the next step, It's time for next chapter.
Let's go make it happen. Sounds like a guy that's
that sounds like a guy involved. I was about to
say that sounds like a guy that had something to

(14:13):
do with it.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Ending.

Speaker 6 (14:14):
Yeah, I have, I mean, literally no basis for this.
This is not but I just kind of feel like
he was apart. I just I kind of do. He's
on that board.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
He's making like official esque statements and let's go make
it happen. Who cares? I think? I think now maybe
the person to look at is what does Larry Vaught?
Larry Vaught might be back with his views coming from
danvill Ryan.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
So if Mark Hill is involved in his search, does
that make it?

Speaker 3 (14:49):
I don't know what that he is. I had no
idea if.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
He Okay, but you think being Barnard's right hand man,
he probably.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Well, and that's the whole other thing about who's gonna
be the next ad?

Speaker 7 (14:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (14:57):
And do you want to involve your next a d
and try. I don't know. That's all remains to be seen.
That's a lot of phone calls I'll be making this afternoon.

the Seltzers. Okay, there you go, there you go. That's

Speaker 8 (16:01):
I'm a student at the university and over the recent
years it's been kind of sad to see over the
past two seasons how students have turned on Mark.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
And students definitely did.

Speaker 8 (16:11):
Turn Yeah, it was insane. I got to games and
during the game we'd be up forty against Florida and
they would still be dogg on. But I hope with
the next guy that he either is the biggest win
that we could possibly have for the rope program or
the biggest bus out of the game. I hope that
we can get our foot in a direction, and I

(16:32):
hope the best for the next coach.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Yeah, well, the students, the younger fans appreciate the call.
Definitely turned on on Stoops. I think it goes back
to the Cal Stoops fight the young A lot of
younger fans were on Cal's side there, and I think,
but but and then also like he just Stoops didn't
do anything to cultivate students really at all, and you did.
I think that. I mean, it doesn't it matters a

(16:55):
little bit, doesn't matter a ton, but it matters. I think.
By the way, uh uh, I'm sources tell Matthew Jones
that they're gonna they're talking to will Stein today, maybe
talking to other people, but that they're talking to will
Stein today.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Another will Stein angle. There are several pictures of him
and Rich Brooks together at Oregon, Like it's clear they
like each other, and you know, Pat Paul still beloved here.
One phone call could go a long way for him,
since you.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Don't think so much about that, Like he might be
talking to five people today. Yeah, I only my source
to the extest I have it is about will Stein,
maybe even talking like right now.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
I think it does matter that he is off this
week where Ohio State's got a championship.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Game, or cal Perry became the coach, maybe over Izzo
because Izzo still had to play that week.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
If Ohio State makes this run in the playoff, they're
playing all the way until what second week of January.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Which maybe they think about. But then Oregon can make
the same run, you.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Know, maybe they got a shot, got a.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Shot and the only game they lost this year was Indiana. Yeah,
so Clay, go ahead, Clay.

Speaker 9 (18:02):
I'm twenty two, I'm a fan of Stoops. I just
don't see replacing him to his previous success. I just
don't see somebody following with the eight straight bowl games.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Well maybe they don't, but I mean he's gone there
he's gone now, So now what I.

Speaker 9 (18:28):
Don't Well, I had to buy somebody breakfast this morning
because I made a bet last night over I didn't
think they fire him.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
Well, a lot of people did. Nick Rouse didn't think
they would. At five o'clock, me Adam just rowing and
Nick Rouse did a YouTube and Nick said he didn't
think they would, and the other three he said yes,
but I mean it wasn't for sure.

Speaker 9 (18:50):
I mean I like the heartline for sure. I mean,
I just can't get on board with Dan Mullen.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
I just yeah, I don't think. I don't think. I
don't think he's the best choice at all. And I
appreciate the call. You're not the only person. Yeah, I
think he'd be a bad one. I appreciate the call,
but a lot I don't think people want Damn moll.
I think people would be disappointed. I'm just saying I
don't think he would be an abject disaster. But he's
definitely drew behind these other guys.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
For me, yeah, he's won at SEC, in the SEC,
at a program that's usually at the bottom.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
No, you never want Chip Kelly. I keep seeing like
I like justin Rowland. But he mentioned Chip Kelly. What
worries me about the Chip Kelly thing is Justin has
some sources and I, you know, I hope that that's
not I mean, Chip Kelly's another one we're hiring where
we're like buying Yahoo.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
He jumps around jobs like he's running from the wall,
like he's everywhere, like two or three years.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
He just got fired from the Raiders, Like, I don't
want that. That's one like I'll damn mull and I
eventually could talk myself into I don't know, I'm can
talk myself into Chip Kelly.

Speaker 4 (19:58):
There's a lot of whispers out there that both Stun
and Hartline are interested. So if it gets past them,
I think.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
I don't care which one flip a coin.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
They got to get one of those two guys. I
think for the fan base to get back on board
be excited again.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
Sean from Austin, Go ahead, Sean, Yeah, I.

Speaker 10 (20:15):
Turned you guys on this morning. I heard the news
is like the clouds parted and the sun was shining.
Did you know there's hope?

Speaker 3 (20:24):
Did you not know until you know?

Speaker 10 (20:26):
So I turned you guys on this morning.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Wow, that's crazy. I should have thought of that. But
go ahead, Yeah, going look.

Speaker 10 (20:33):
Going forward, this guy's got to be a N I
L and Transfer portal savant. Okay, that's I mean, we're
not going backwards.

Speaker 7 (20:42):
In the in time anymore.

Speaker 10 (20:44):
So that's all I got to say. I trust your
guys judgment.

Speaker 8 (20:46):
I love your guys, show.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Go cats appreciate it. Wow, I should have, you know.
I thought about maybe I should lead like it's news,
and Shannon I thought, well, of course everybody knows.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Oh yeah, I mean it's been out for but he
didn't know it happened late last night. Sometimes you yeah, Ryan,
Ryan doesn't know until he turns on the pre show.
I heard on the pre show this morning.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
I didn't know who the President of the United States
was until you heard it from US.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
I did enjoy you guys little live stream last night.
That was good.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
You had a good good and we did two of them.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Yeah, uh one last night was good.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
I looked up this morning, both of them over forty
thousand views.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
My goodness. Really, it's crazy.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
Yea.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
The livestream was fun, but that just fell like an
old school KSR day. I probably hit refreshed ten thousand times.
We're on the board talking. You don't you know picture
in these circumstances, but I had fun following it and
just bantering with people on wine.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
We didn't that was very much an old school being online.
We didn't cut tape cover zero because we didn't have time.
I expected to do nothing yesterday. I was going to
read the end of three books and I read none.
But it was still fun. It was fun. I enjoyed it. Mike,
go ahead, Mike.

Speaker 11 (21:53):
Hey, guys, I hope everybody is just as excited as
I am. All Right, this is I'm in Knoxville, Tennessee,
and I've called him a couple of times, but anyway,
the reason I'm calling is that I really I believe
that Heartline would be the guy that could come in
and bring some excitement that could bring back some mistique

(22:16):
to the university. He's young enough to come in. But
this is the thing, is that I really want to
see a coach that can come in and build a
team and a culture around him of you know, a
good defense, good offense, special teams, all that. Because it
ain't just about that head coach, is about who he
puts around him that's going to help him be successful.

(22:38):
So I think that that's that's what we really need
to be looking at when we're hiring someone. You can
build a team.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
I agree, but lots of guys the key to building
a team. I appreciate calling. If I was doing the interviews,
that is, I would want to know what people if
they know their weaknesses, and do you do you fill
them with other people? Like I had somebody write me
and say, these guys are too young stein in heartline,
they're in the mid thirties. Well, it's a new world.
People in their mid thirties might know more of what

(23:04):
to do in the new world.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
I think the problem in the world will got too
many old people try to run everything. Maybe move it
to the new generation, right people. I mean, if you
think about it, the people in the world who make
the biggest change are usually pretty young, right. They're usually
the ones that like see the new mold. So I'm
good with that. We'll take a break. Be right back.

(23:28):
It's KSR. TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll
make them pay.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Welcome back Tekey Sports Radio. This comment comes in on
the texts. By the way, there's a bunch of people
that said they didn't know until the show started. Well,
my gut said to like talk about it as news, Shannon, Yeah,
and I should.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Have because breaking news then, So everybody that's tuning in.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
Okay, let's do it breaking. Mark Stoops has been let
go by the University of Kentucky and the Cats will
have a new Were they really good job one Verson,

(24:15):
says Matt talking about Signetty. Why don't we mention Bob
Chesney of James Madison could bring fifteen proven guys immediately.
It's exactly what's happened at these other schools like Indiana
and Vandy. I wouldn't be against it, but at the
same time, like here, let's put it like this. This
is what I would say going into this hiring season.

(24:36):
If you were to have asked the average person in
college football give me ten hot names for big time
jobs at the end of the season, three names would
have been on that list. John summerl will Stein, and
Brian Hartline to have connections to Kentucky. When's that ever

(24:57):
gonna happen again? May never ever? All right, So some
rawlings up at Florida. It's a whole different conversation about
whether or not that could have been here. I'm skeptical
he wouldn't have come. I think I feel like Florida
is just a better job. You have to take it.
Maybe I'm wrong, that's just what I feel. But if
you can get one of those three guys, will we
ever have three dudes with connections to the University of

(25:19):
Kentucky on the top ten list?

Speaker 1 (25:21):
Again, which dud's got the job? Everybody was considered had
zero connection to Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
So now that we gotta get one of them, right, like,
this is our chance? Plus they have they just have
a connection here. They know this place. Will Stein knows
the state of Kentucky. Brian Hartline knows the program. Like,
we just got it. We got this. Do one of them.
It's right there for us, it's right there for you.
And think about how much it would kill us if

(25:47):
those three guys all end up being successes and we
didn't get one of them when we had a chance.

Speaker 4 (25:53):
That would be a massive failure. You still have two left.
I think it'll be a massive failure if you don't
get it.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
You can only get one. So if you know one
of the others, just get one of them and you're
playing a lottery. Maybe you win it, maybe you don't,
but it would hurt. It's like when Chris Lofton went
to Tennessee. It would hurt a lot more ran if
they were there and you didn't try one of them.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Absolutely, So why don't you go after both of them?
Does it matter which one you get, as long as
you just get one of the two.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
I just lonestee, if I was mitched, I might just
I'd interview them both. First one to jump first one, well,
first one I liked, whichever one of the two I
thought was better than I'd offer. But if they both
were equal, I'd just flip a coin and say.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
First one to come first one jump.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
Okay, stop Floyd Lord, heads or tail, because I just
feel like it's meant to be if they're both connected
to hear yeah, right, And.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
Even though they're kind of different styles, there's got to
be no more than a year or two a part
in age. And they're both coordinators at two huge brands
in college football who behind the scenes haven't figured out.
I mean, both of those are like professional operations, and
you could be bringing their you know, second in command
pretty much to come run your program. I don't think
we could be upset if you took someone that Oregon

(27:10):
loves or that Ohio State loves.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
And don't overthink it interview them up both. Let's just
say it's Mitch Barnhart, Mark Hill, and Jacob Tannemy. The
three of you sit there and do like Myron and
I do on King of the Mountain two out of
three and that's who we're taking, right.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
So somebody should be kissed staking out the airport, see,
but they get into a flight.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Well, I mean Brian Harlan could drive or we could
drive up there. Let's say now will Stein probably, but
you know he's been here, he doesn't need to look
at the campus.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
Do we fly up there to talk to him?

Speaker 3 (27:44):
Got zoom? Got zoom? I mean like he's like he's
been They've both been here a lot. Like what do
they even really need to see? Probably need none of them.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
Harline honestly probably knows the team and roster better than
Mitch Barnhart from talking to his brother.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
No, I'm not, that's not Seotan Mitch Barhart.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
Literally, Yes, Mike is on the staff with Cutter Bowie
all season and he has he knows everything there is
to know to tell his brother Luke.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Go ahead, Luke.

Speaker 12 (28:07):
Hey, guys, just wanted to say definitely thankful for what
Stups did over the years, but I am very ready.

Speaker 13 (28:12):
For a new coach. I love Ron Hartline.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
I know high school recruiting isn't as important.

Speaker 13 (28:17):
But to me, if you can steal a guy from
Ohio State and from.

Speaker 12 (28:21):
Your backyard, you got to kind of do it.

Speaker 13 (28:24):
I still love Will Steins, who I think he's good
to me. Dan Mullen is fifth on the list.

Speaker 12 (28:28):
I'd rather have the James Madison guy or Jared Parker
at Troy that nobody's talking about, because he would absolutely
say yes to the Kentucky.

Speaker 7 (28:35):
Job no matter what.

Speaker 13 (28:36):
He's a head coach.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
He's playing in the championship game in Sun Belt.

Speaker 12 (28:40):
He is a good coach.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
I think he would do well here as well.

Speaker 12 (28:44):
But you know, I'm just glad that Justin Rowland doesn't
make the hiring decisions, because if Chip Kelly or Brian
Kelly were the coaches, that's like, that's like having a
clogged toilet and taking a crap on top of it
expecting to fix it. We need a plumber to come
in here plunge out. But Oilett inject some life and
some offense into this fan base. And I gotta say,

(29:05):
either Will Stein or Brian Hartline those are grand slam hires.
The James Madison coach or Jared Parker home runs and
Dan Bullen's a double Hell you.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Guys appreciate it. I like, I think that's a great
call all the way around. Adam Luckett, by the way,
mentioned the Troy guy as a possibility. John, go ahead, John.

Speaker 9 (29:26):
I saw that Bobby Petrino has reached out.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Okay, stop stop. I don't want to hear it. Stop it,
stop it. Don't even don't even speak that into existence.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
Other thing, I saw that the private playing track and
seasons upon his boys, uh crafts playing apparently is landed
in Columbus, Ohio.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Yeah, they wouldn't fly to club, they'd drive there. I
appreciate the call. They they would, I mean maybe, oh no,
I don't think they dropped to Glasgow, Kentucky. So maybe
they would fly to Columbus. Maybe so, But I don't
think it would be necessary for them to. They wouldn't
in person with But I would suspect, just suspect, I
would suspect they'll talk to both those guys and they
should today. Yeah, I'm not as much like y'all that

(30:08):
it has to be. Look, here's the deal. Signing day's Wednesday.
Right now, the administrative staff needs to be talking to
these high school recruits and saying, are you good with us?
But once you get to Wednesday, I'm not sure if
there's a huge difference between say Wednesday and Friday or Saturday. Like,
if you're not gonna do it today, then I don't
know that tomorrow makes it. I'm thinking about current players.

(30:31):
Bow's phoony is ringing Willy Rodriguez until January second, so
like you do have a little bit of time. They
are ringing, but they're gonna wait and see where the
coach is. I mean, Cutter Bowley and Willie Rodriguez are
not gonna pick another school today.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
That's like you said, I think it matters that Ohio
State is playing this weekend Oregon is not.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
So I don't think it has to I disagree with
right it needs to be tomorrow, but it does need
to be this wee. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (30:56):
Probably.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
How long did it take for Pope to be hired
after caliper It was four days.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
Cal Perry left on a Tuesday. We announced Pope.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
On Friday Friday. Yeah, three days, is that correct? It
came out Friday night, It came out Thursday night.

Speaker 3 (31:12):
Yeah, at about ten thirty or eleven, like we did
last night.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Yeah, then we did it the show and Scott Drew came.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Well, cal Perry we thought was gone from like Saturday
on it got officially announced. Well, no, we of course,
well we weren't fired. Arkansas announced him on Tuesday. The
famous him walking the Dog was on Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
Yeah, it leaked Sunday because I went to the Masters
and I just pulled into Augusta and looked at my phone.
I'm like, oh great, I just got here. That was
Sunday afternoon that week.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
But it was quick.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Yeah. Or did he go?

Speaker 3 (31:45):
Did he go two days or a week and a half?

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Well, because the Drew family deathly flew here, they were
here for a whole day. When did that happen?

Speaker 3 (31:54):
I'm kind of wondering if it was a week and
a half. Maybe it was a week and a half,
because yeah, it was a week and a half because
they did the whole Drew family. Then they went up
to see Danny Hurley. I think it was a week
and a half. I don't think it was two days.
I think it was. He left on a Tuesday and
we hired h Pope the next Friday, because I know,
I mean they went through the Oats and Pyeah.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
It was more than Pope was introduced Masters Sunday. I remember,
because I'm like, I could be watching you.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
Said the Master Sunday was when you found out Cal
was No.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
I got there the week of the Masters on a
Sunday when Cal left. Remember I was the day Cal left.
I'd have a phone. I was at the Master's.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
It was only two days. Positive Pope's press conference was
Master Sunday for sure. Okay, Hunter, Hunter in Austin, Go ahead, Hunter, No,
he left Final four weekend, remember because they talked about
it at the final four of the whole because they
met at the Final four and talked about it. So
it was Tuesday, So you're right. I guess it was

(32:50):
two or three days. It felt like it felt like
a month. But go ahead, Hunter.

Speaker 13 (32:55):
Hey guys, I'm gonna follow what everyone else says. I'm
fine with either of those two are at the top candidates,
and I love Stoops. But outside of the two lavish years,
we've had a fairly. I was a boring team to
watch it, even when they were winning, which was fun,
but they were the offense was not the most fun
to watch. So I'm excited to get a guy who
can come in here and make the offense really exciting.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
I agree with you. Do you think that I appreciates
the call? Do you think that should be part of
the conversation. You have to be bringing in a big
time fun offense.

Speaker 4 (33:27):
I don't know if it's a deal breaker, but it
needs to take priority. I mean, we all embraced Stoops's mentality.
It worked for many years. I had just as much
as fun as anyone running the ball and having other
teams be like, wow, we just got our butt kicked
by that offensive line. But I think it is time
to try something a little new and bring some excitement.
I mean, when hal Mummy was losing fifty one to
forty five, that was still pretty fun. I'd brother win

(33:48):
those games, but having a fun offense goes a long way.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
I'm done with the bubble screen. We had a lot
of those Saturday too.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
The Bush bubble screen.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
I'm done with the bubble screen. Yeah, it was Steep's
two day. It was Tuesday, decision was Friday, so three
days wow. If you have an outdated kitchen or bath,
an unfinished basement where they're not going to fix themselves.
A lot of people think it'll it'll just wait. I'll
wait till January to start my remodel, But no, the
State Renovations is already booked for months. So do it now.
Get into a design agreement and make sure your project

(34:18):
starts before March madness. State Renovation makes it easy, whether
it's kitchens, bathrooms or your whole house. Go to staterenos
dot com, r E n O s dot com at
state renos dot com and use slash KSR slash kslashsr.
That's how you get your State Renos dot com slash KSR.
The State Renovations make next year the Year you Love

(34:40):
your Home. Final segment right after this KSR. By the way,
Lane Kiffin will make a million dollars if old Miss
wins the national title without him. What that's a great deal. What? Yeah,
Kiffin's gonna have thirteen million dollars. It puts him on
par with Kirby Smart. But they're keeping the parts of
the Old Miss contract where he got bonuses. Kiffin just

(35:01):
as a dog like. That's just how it is. You know,
wed him yesterday.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
We're all all miss fans up for the playoffs? Now
are we trying to pull?

Speaker 3 (35:07):
I am?

Speaker 1 (35:08):
I'm pulling for him now, Kiffin.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Is Yeah, Kiff, it definitely is. You are an old
miss fan.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
I'm pulling for him right now. Absolutely, they're kind of
getting the still kids are getting the shaft a little bit.
So I'm pulling for him.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
Yeah. Uh eight, I'm nine two eight oh twenty two
eighty seven. Let's just keep going. Let's go to no
Jay Rock. What's up? Jay Rock?

Speaker 7 (35:28):
Hey, what's up y'all? I just want to know why
it's so hard for people to follow your instructions when
you call in. You don't talk about the future till
you talk about the future. Uh yeah, since we talked
about the future for you.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
I feel like that's I feel like that's fairly obvious,
pretty simple.

Speaker 7 (35:44):
I mean, that's where I get my material from these dummies.
But AnyWho, ugh, guy Morris and rich Brooks and Joker
and Stoops, where we want to talk about them?

Speaker 8 (35:54):
I hollow?

Speaker 3 (35:57):
So you just that's why you can't go to him
in the serious day. We definitely need to go to
hand on a serious day. By the way, we play
Carolina tomorrow. Just reminder we need to win real bad.
I know Mario's worried. I was on the elevator. Him's
all I talked about was Kayleb Wilson. But we get
we're gonna get it done.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
Who's going to guard Kayleb Wilson?

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Me?

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Steve? What's up Steve?

Speaker 2 (36:17):
Gentlemen, good morning, just real fast. I think whatever coach
we go with, I think it needs to be assumed
that we're looking at maybe a three to six year window.
No more ten year, twelve year, thirteen year coaching years.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
Why not ten though? I mean why not ten? Like
I think Tim can work. I mean, I'm sure Indiana
thinks they're gonna have Kurt Signet for ten years.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
Well he's not gonna be there. That that guy will
retire soon. But someone's talking to like Stein, Hey, he
could be a long term fit, long term higher. Well
he may get hired away. Let's be candidate, and that's
not a bad thing if we're good enough to have
Stein hire.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
I agree with you, I totally agree with you, But
I would say this is a world where maybe you
can keep these guys I mean Pence State tried to
hire Signetti.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
Look at the SEC Matt Yeste's by a mile was
the longest ten year coach. There's always going to be turnover.
We need to be focused on winning as well.

Speaker 12 (37:10):
Well.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
I don't know why you're worried about when we're gonna
fire somebody when we haven't even hired him yet.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Oh I'm not talking about being fired. I'm talking about
them getting hired away.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
But why are you worried about that? We're talking about
hiring young guys.

Speaker 13 (37:22):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
I think it's a great thing. I am you're misinterpreting.
I think we need to be thinking of bringing in
somebody that is going to want to have others try
to coach him from us, and I think that window
is a three to six maybe seven year window if
we do this right.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
I appreciate Carlin. I'm just not going to grant you
that they're going to be poached, whereas I would have
granted you that five years ago. You know, uh, multiple
Clark Lee is staying at Vandy right and he got
approached by lots of squad. He is staying at Vandy.
You know, Kurt Signetty turned down Penn State to stay
at Indiana. I don't know. I think you can keep

(38:02):
these guys now. Maybe you can't keep them from Ohio State,
and maybe you can't keep them from Alabama, but I
think you can keep them now from all but a handful.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
I'd say it's a it's a good thing. If these
big schools are coming after our football coach, that means
he's had great success here.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
Yes, but I just why are we granting will lose people?

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Know?

Speaker 3 (38:23):
These other schools aren't right changed, times have changed. Lane
Kiffin's a little different, but he's Lane Kiffin. They put
his clothes out on the street shading it.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
I know, right, that's that's the best thing in the weekend.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
There's a lot of money he got to. I mean
they left his clothes.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
Set them on fire. I mean like a like a
real divorce, somebody cheating on you.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
You know, Uh is Marty Smith still there? Poor guy?
You know they had him down here the whole time,
and then I didn't really ever see him Sunday except
he was at the airport. I guess saying goodbye. Uh,
Draft Kings, we gotta quickly do a draft Kings Parlay
go to DraftKings dot com. Use my promo code cas
our bet three win two hundred dollars if your bet hits.
What is Monday Night football tonight?

Speaker 5 (39:04):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (39:04):
We got a Giants and Patriots.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Giants and the Patriots. What's the spread? I don't know,
but I'm gonna get and a half. It's not even here.
Do they not know who's gonna play or what? There's
no line. I'm not seeing a line either. Oh it
is seven and a half. Look at that, about seven
and a half. What do you got? I'm taking the
Giants to cover that.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
Jackson Dart's supposed to play to night for the Patriots.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
A Giants cover. That may be why they didn't have
a line on this is I don't know if he's
playing yet.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Well, I you know, offer you guys opinion. You're the
NFL expert.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
I offer you guys opinion. Just pick the team.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
I must say, Giants cover.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
I offer you guys opinion. That's not even all right?
Giants go ahead. I'm gonna go with the Giants too. Okay,
A big night for Chris Rodriguez last night.

Speaker 11 (39:55):
They lost.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Got to start and.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
Ray Davis had his best game of the year last night.
Clean sweep.

Speaker 3 (40:00):
I'll take the Giants too.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
All right, we all bet the Giants tonight.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
Let's go Eddie offer you guys opinion.

Speaker 7 (40:05):
Go ahead, Yes, sir.

Speaker 14 (40:08):
I know Town's a factor and we need to really
make sure we get a good coach, so it's a
one time deal. But I had another question moving forward.
If Mitch Lee's what do you think about Rick Patino
as athletic director?

Speaker 3 (40:20):
I think that's the worst idea I've heard today. Justin,
go ahead, justin.

Speaker 5 (40:26):
Hey, many Kurt Signetti has been the bells of all
this offseason for how well he's done it Indiana. Of course,
nobody could get him now because he he assigned a
contract extension.

Speaker 14 (40:39):
I just thought, well, I wonder why.

Speaker 5 (40:40):
Nobody mentions his coordinators like Mike Shanahan his offensive coordinator,
and Bryant Rains his deep insive coordinator. Both are like,
he's a top ten defense, top ten offense. I mean,
Indiana's putting up like sixty points every week.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
It's a quick question. I mean I got nothing against that.
I don't know much about him, but.

Speaker 5 (40:58):
Yeah, yeah, I'll just get a little worried that we
kind of are getting a little bit humble vision here
with Spine and Heartline, I understand are both good, both
are good options. But I feel like we needed this.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
But I mean, what is it about. What does Shanahan
have that Stein and Hartline don't have everything? They've done
everything he's done.

Speaker 5 (41:21):
It's it's the signet connection for me.

Speaker 3 (41:24):
Yeah, but Ryan Day won the national championship last year.
But Ryan Day won the national championship last year, So
I mean, you know that.

Speaker 5 (41:35):
But I just thought those guys should be mentioned.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
No, I appreciate the call. I think that's fair, and
if they end up getting one of those guys, maybe
I'll be fine with it. But got a lot of
good choices. I heard people say, well, you waited too long.
I think it's actually interesting. I think we waited more
than these other people. But I think are candidates. I
don't think any of these guys that went to other
schools where people we were going to look at except

(41:58):
some row right. Yeah, I think we dropped the ball
in that. But you still have an opportunity. You still
have an opportunity. Like it's like, okay, maybe you maybe
you didn't get to pick between five great candidates, but
you got to pick between four. You should go Oh you.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
Need one Auburn? Are you hired their guy?

Speaker 7 (42:15):
What?

Speaker 1 (42:15):
Arkansas? Are you hired?

Speaker 3 (42:16):
We weren't looking for those guys. We weren't gonna hire
Pete Golding or the Memphis coach or the North Like.
We weren't hiring those guys.

Speaker 4 (42:24):
So here we go, and we're lucky either here I
would I wouldn't have much faith if we didn't have
the two with connections right now.

Speaker 3 (42:31):
But we're gonna get one of them were better and
it's gonna be fun. And I think they may be
talking to both of them today because there is a
