This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Now Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Welcome everyone to the is Kentucky Sports Radio, Tuesday, December
the second. I am Matt Jones here on a day
full of snow all around the We'll probably all around
the state. Secondly, here in Lexington. I heard they had
more in Louisville, and it is all over the place.
Some places out of school County Public Schools is one
of them, so we are here. But it's also one
(00:59):
of the more massive days in recent KSR history. You
can give Sean Clark's Pumping Shop full line eight five
nine eight twenty two eighty seven a vision auto glass
text machine seven seven two seven to seven four five
two five four in this distion sponsored by the TJ.
Smith Law Office. If you called TJ. He'll make them pay.
It is on the same day we have a massive
(01:21):
basketball game as Kentucky plays North Carolina tonight. The two
winningness programs of all time or two of the three.
I guess Kansas is up there now. Kentucky has a
new football coach. Yesterday. Uh, it was officially announced at
eleven fifteen at night. They're doing a tough job about
announcing this stuff in the middle of the night, but
it leaked earlier in the evening. Will Stein is the
(01:43):
new University of Kentucky football coach. If you were keeping
score at home, just twenty five hours after they announced
that Stoops was leaving, they have announced. Actually they didn't
officially announce Stoops was leaving un till two till Monday morning,
so fourteen I think after they announced, they already had
a new coach, as Will Stein is the coach. Let's
(02:06):
just start with this. I'll give you my reaction and
then let's do yours. I think this is a great hire.
I think if you had gone back four or three
months ago and said, who are the who would you
want if Mark Stops is not the coach at the
end of the year, you would have said either John
summerl or Will Stein. So you get one of them.
I'm sure some people might have wanted another, some people whatever,
(02:27):
But you got one of the two candidates I think
most people would have thought would have been the best
for this job. Grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Dad played
for Kentucky season ticket holders apparently in Section one twenty eight,
twenty eight at Kroger Field. So whoever's in one twenty eight,
you've been sitting next to the for years. You were
sitting next to the new head football coach. He was
(02:49):
a kid that apparently went to every game played at Louisville.
Has been the offensive coordinator at UTSA and then Oregon.
He has coached three quarterbacks. All three are going to
end up top three round draft picks in the NFL.
BO Nicks Dylan Gabriel and his quarterback More Now will
(03:09):
as well whenever he leaves. So loves the school. I
had my friend Jeff Schwartz, who I did my ESPN
show with after I did it with Orlowsky, Myron, and
I did it with a guy named Jeff Schwartz for
a year. He played at Oregon, lives in Eugene, huge
Oregon fan. Does radio for the PAC twelve or now
(03:30):
it's I guess the Big Well.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
I don't know if he's with the Big ten.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Network or not, but he did do it with the
Pac twelve. He wrote me yesterday and said, you guys
have a brilliant coach. We hate to lose him. He's
gonna be awesome there. So I am very very happy.
I grade the hire an a. It was fourteen hours,
which is crazy, but I, I mean just really really
happy with what we ended up with.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
What about you drew me too. It's been in my
brain summ raw in Stein for a long time. Some
Raw clearly wasn't an option, uh with the way it
played out, and I love how quickly they moved to
get Stein. You know, just daying hate you got to
go fast. Players are already looking out and looking for
other places, and you don't want to miss out on
that window. I know it's not officially open, but come on,
let's be honest. They're all talking behind the scenes. So
(04:16):
I'm glad they got it done early. And even though
it shouldn't matter that much, something about him having those
season tickets goes along with it matters.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
We now have a football and a basketball coach that
is specifically one of us. Ryan, you remember when Will Stein,
I don't know if you remember when his dad played,
but you remember a long time.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
What do you think about his dad actually scored a touchdown?
Punk found a touchdown of his dad falling on a
fumbling end zone or something. So Okay, so that video,
that video surface today, big man TD. But you're right, man, uh,
you know, it had to be a hire that re
energized the fan base, got the fan base back on board.
It had to be a hire that got the boosters
n IL people back on board. It had to be
a hired to get that locker room back on board.
(04:58):
And this guy checks all those boxes. You know, when
we walked out of this room yesterday, he was maybe
choice one hardline was one A and then who would
have thought we'd come back in here today and it's
a done deal. I mean, it happened, but it had
to happen faster.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Well, I mean I think that that's one of the
things you have to go back and look at Clearly,
they didn't have their first conversation with him yesterday, right,
I mean, they had to have talked to him at
some point, had to. I mean, there's no way that
you could have I mean, there's no way that Kate
could have gone from zero to nothing.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
In a day.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
So do you think they talked Sunday?
Speaker 4 (05:32):
I mean probably, But I bet there were conversations. Maybe
not between Mitch and but I bet there were conversations
of if this job would come open maybe two weeks ago, right,
maybe when it looked like who knows. We'll never know
the answer because they'll never say. But you're not going
to convince me that in fourteen hours they went from Hello,
my name is Mitch Barnhart, Hello, my name is will Stein.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
And I mean that's just Mitch can't call will Stein midyear.
But they both have friends agent. I mean that happened
every team, everywhere, there's constant somebody talked.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
And you know what's funny, is this the word of
it yesterday? Well, first of all, Shannon, what do you
think of it?
Speaker 5 (06:08):
We didn't.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Well, first of all, I was told, if you believe
any of my sources, that the decision was made on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Okay, so see this is what I this was exactly.
Speaker 5 (06:18):
I'm glad you said that.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
That's why we're going to the will Stein's family. Like
everyone in Louisville knows these literally, like everyone like I can.
I mean there are like three or four names in
Kentucky media that grew up with it. Okay. I mean
Stephen Peak, who works for us, played on the same
(06:39):
baseball team. He was wearing the jersey last night on
rappend Rection for TJ Walker, former KSR guy. I think
knew him as a as a kid. Katie George. There
are multiple pictures of Katie George and he has little
kids together. The report every person like Shannon, and I'm
not saying Shannon whoever told you that it's not correct,
(07:02):
but everyone wrote me yesterday. Hundreds of people wrote the
text machine and said I have a source. Deals done,
and they may all have been right, they may have
none been right. I don't think it was done. I
was talking to somebody who was part of it. I
don't think it was done until about nine thirty or
(07:24):
ten last night. I think they were ready for official
people to report it. When the Pete Thamull and all
those people did. But I think there was probably an agreement.
Who knows when, maybe even Sunday. It will be interesting
to have somebody though, this is gonna be the age
of So I was talking. I gotta like, there's gonna
(07:47):
be more sources. I was thinking about this. We haven't
had a coach connected to this state like since I've
been doing it. Like Mark played here, but he didn't
know anybody here.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
Still very closed though he's from Washington State.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
This is gonna be the era of my Baker told
him the Hunter, like, this is gonna be the air
of just wait.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Ye, all the Trinity connections.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
I mean first, I was wondering, what's going on? Something
loud noise was in.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
The fire alarm.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
Okay, so what do we do with this? Okay? Stop?
Speaker 4 (08:21):
I mean this, Yes, Trinity is everywhere. They're what nine
thousand kids at Trinity every year. Yeah, I mean the
Age of Trinity, both the UK, both the UK and
True Trinity. Guys, that's true, both of them. This is
the Age of Trinity.
Speaker 6 (08:35):
But who would have thought we'd have a former Louisville
quarterback as our head coach.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
But it seems like, do you think he's more us
than them. We're gonna be You may just have to
deal with this the whole time.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Can we not?
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Can we not do a show like this?
Speaker 2 (08:48):
I mean, I can't have this going over the air.
There goes stop? What kind of fire alarm starts and
stops like that?
Speaker 5 (08:55):
All right?
Speaker 4 (08:55):
If it does it again, Shannon.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
I tell you my take real quick if it doesn't.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
If it does again, then you can just talk until
we get here eight five nine, twenty two eighty seven.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Hopefully it won't do it again.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
But anyway, point being, uh, you mentioned the U of
L coach or U of L playing.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I consider him more of a Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Guy though, right if he grew up a fan wanted
to play here, I wanted to play here.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
I don't know how that is.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
He wanted to walk on spot and couldn't get his
dad played with Joker. It's like, hey, you guys, Bob
from a boy.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
So I don't even blame him.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
I know that.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
Oh wow, So he wanted it bad and just didn't
have the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
So let's talk about what we have. I mean Oregon's offense,
I mean, they they're they're up tempo, they're fast paced.
They put up a lot of points. I think the
development of quarterbacks Ryan is.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
Huge for me.
Speaker 6 (09:50):
I didn't get a suck.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
All right, we'll have to do this now. I don't
know what we'll do. I'll try to get connected somewhere else, Shannon,
you you get going and we'll see what we can do.
I mean to what a day, What a day for
this to happen? I know, but it's just gonna keep
doing it the whole time. I mean, can you handle
six beeps.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Over their worst fire alarm ever?
Speaker 7 (10:09):
Mean?
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Building?
Speaker 4 (10:10):
You go see what's happening, just.
Speaker 6 (10:12):
Beeping twice and then quitting. So yeah, it's done that
three times.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Only at I Heeart you hire will Stein? Does the
building decide to beep the buildings? I'll also note that
there's like a pretty big meeting going on right now
in this building. Yeah, with some of this, like I'm
not kidding, and not on this floor, but somewhere else
(10:40):
because we ran into them in the elevators.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Well, I don't know what you're referring to, but that's okay.
It's on brand.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Though.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
I will say that.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
A few things yesterday happened that we're great Kentucky one
is the whole airplane.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Situation on the buildings. Okay, by the way, we're safe.
Is this gonna stop? I don't know about that, but
we don't have to evacuate our top floor of the
city center.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Can you ask them not?
Speaker 5 (11:03):
Are they doing testing? They cannot be doing No one
in the office is budged. Everyone's just zooming and typing
away out there. Okay, So.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
The airplane situation was great, all right, So I get it.
I get a message that says there's an airplane on
the tarmac in Lexington that is going from Lexington to
Columbus and then Columbus to Eugene. Okay, come on, could
be coincidence on the day, like, like, what was it?
Speaker 5 (11:33):
Billy?
Speaker 4 (11:36):
There's a show going on.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Can't they test this?
Speaker 5 (11:42):
Why are they gonna test it during the day snowing outside?
It's not gonna have a test.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
A test And Billy says it can go over the air.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
It did too late.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
So when you see that, you go and by the way,
it's owned by probably the second biggest football donor, right
the jet Yeah, I mean we could say it was
all over the internet. Brett Senzer, Yeah, who literally is
probably the second.
Speaker 6 (12:11):
Biggest football dough and to use his jet a lot,
and they.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Use his jet all the time, so you I mean,
the natural inclination is, Okay, they're going to go interview
Brian Hartline and then they're going to go to Oregon.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
But then an hour before that, a jet is going
from Jeffersonville, Indiana, directly to Eugene organ That's a rental jet,
like a net Jets kind of thing. So they're both
going on the one to Columbus and Eugene never took off.
(12:45):
There's some people speculating they just put that out there
smoke screen.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
Smoke screen because you know, you gotta let their report know.
They gotta get in the system.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
I don't feel like our people are clever enough to
do that, Like they don't do that kind of stuff.
Speaker 5 (12:59):
I know in thest Ball search, they had a few
tricks up their sleeve. They were leaving from other airports,
and leaving from other airports.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
I get like they've they've actually flown from that Jeffersonville
airport before, So that doesn't shock me.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
But do you think.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
They put out a fake flight plan?
Speaker 5 (13:18):
I think the most likely scenario, No, not for a college.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Football Why would there have been a flight plan that
didn't take off that would go to Club this.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
And then eug I lean a little misdirection, but I
don't believe you CA Athletics has that in them, you
think just to get My best guess is maybe they
weren't all done with Stein yet and they thought we
might have to go talk to higher line who could
get us there. And it's like getting it in the
system as a just in case. Stein says yes, and like,
(13:52):
all right, we don't need that. But I mean it
was I think it was kind of just having it
lined up in case we have to go.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
An smoke screen. That's like that's a backup.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
And that's just me completely trying to say what they
could be do.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
I think it was total. They had to get ready
just in case. So they had to notify the pilot,
who had to notify the air traffic controllers to get
on the flight pad pattern. And then so if they
had to take off, I.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Mean, if they can't drive to clumb that far, like
you can drive to three and a half.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
You were, you would have gone to Eugene, would have
driven to Eugene, would have yeah, will will be there
in eight days interview.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
It was a smoke It's literally the organ trail.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
If it was a smoke screen, they probably would have
had a trip to Las Vegas. Try to really throw
us off.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Oh for damn Muller, let's take a break. Eighty seven
text machine is seven to seven? What a KSR said
first segment, I play in this whole wheel Stein My.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
Good crief. We'll be right back. This's gonna drive me
in crazy today.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
I'm gonna have to I'm have to figure out, like
how do we get the zen of this fire alarm?
I mean, just so people know we're in the city.
This is the city Center building in Lexington, right, yes,
what is wrong with these people who own?
Speaker 5 (15:13):
Like how are they doing this?
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Forget about us? How are you testing firearm during the
work day? Why can't you test it at not there's.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
Several floors full of me but right now, like just
listen to this. Also they tested it. What's with the
we're going?
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Can someone at the city sit or understand chain and
it's working now they're.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Just doing it to make you mad, Like now it's
doing it more than it was.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
You haven't now see But is that real?
Speaker 6 (15:43):
Or are they? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Well they but they said they sent an email saying
they were doing this. By the way, thank you Diheart
for letting me know about that email. We could have
gone to the thestaurant today. This place runs like a dream.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
Got a minim small.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Because people are saying it's funny listening to be be frustrated.
It's just because, like, this is the kind of show
you do, Shannon, and we can use on a best of,
Like we just played on Thanksgiving the day after Mark
Pope was.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
High, some random summer show. This is kind of a
big show.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
So if will Stein ends up being successful, this is
when we could have played for years, and now we
can't because.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
I might argue this is definitely a best of now
twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
One person writes, mad I wrote you this at eleven
thirty seven. I said he had already accept the job.
You didn't read it on the show. You could have
had it. I got, sir with respect. I got like
two hundred of those. But I mean, you know, how
do you know if that's true. Plus I was talking
to someone that was involved in in the process and
(16:51):
they were saying, it's not not Doe.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
We think it's going to be done, but it's not done. So,
I mean, you know, I'm like you, I'm not. I'm
not from a little life friends Louisville. This was my
first taste of how Louisville operation. This is everyone I
know with a louisvill number, text me, tell everyone, story
about everyone.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
This is Louisville. I've lived there, Louisville, especially the Catholic
schools in Louisville and specifically Shannon Trinity. Trinity is like
a network. It's like an underground society that's above ground.
Speaker 5 (17:27):
Am I wrong about this?
Speaker 8 (17:28):
No?
Speaker 3 (17:28):
You got it.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Trinity. There's nothing like it in Lexington. Like Trinity runs louis.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
Does Saint X have their own underground Also.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
I'm sure I don't think it's I think the Trinity.
I maybe I just know. But think about all the
people we know that went to Trinity, Deaner, you know, Vanetti, Like,
they're all Trinity people, Jody Dimmling, They're all Trinity people
and they're everywhere. And this is how it's going to be,
Like the amount of my cousin told me, like, that's
(17:59):
just how it's gonna be.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
On the moment, there's something whatever during the season we're
trying to figure out.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Is it's gonna be great for us, like it's gonna
be great for news agencies because we've had a number
of coaches here back to back that were relatively tight lipped.
Cow was tight lip, absolutely for the most part. Pope's
Pope's the most tight lift I've seen. Stoops was. I mean,
some people talked, but it wasn't crazy.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
This will.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
Whether whether they do it, the Trinity will be on fire,
the Trinity hotline. Oh yeah, will Stein's Bomb owns a
cake store.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Yes, in louisod for business.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
What's the name of the cake store?
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Cissy Cakes.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
That sounds right.
Speaker 6 (18:42):
I think that sounds right.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
That's the one I think. Okay, has anyone ever had
cissy Cakes?
Speaker 6 (18:49):
No, but I'm anxious to try them.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
Okay, So here's what I want to do. Cissy Cakes. Now,
I know it's snowy, but I would like someone two cycles.
Speaker 6 (19:03):
Here's the second one.
Speaker 5 (19:06):
I would like someone. Can I take the batteries out
of that.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
To go to cissy Cakes during the show?
Speaker 6 (19:13):
Okay, I like it.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
Who's Shannon? Could we get to go to cissy Cakes
and buy a cake.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
And eat it in Louisville.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
In Louisville, cissy Cakes is on Fairfax Avenue. This is
an end show thing I would like to do. I
would like to have someone. It looks like it is
next to it's in Saint Matthew's. It's next to The
Black Rabbit, which I've been watching Netflix. You gotta be
careful there. Yeah, correct, good show.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
I don't know where's Rick when you need them?
Speaker 5 (19:40):
You know who could we get to go? All right?
Speaker 4 (19:44):
I'll tell you what if there's something one that will
volunteer if you have nothing to do, to go to
Cissy Cakes and be our will Stein's Mom's Bakery correspondent
Jane Lyndon.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
We're calling you out.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
Just text the text machine seven seven two seven seven
four five two five for but go ahead and like
actually say like, don't do it unless you can. Then
I'll have Shannon call you and we will send you
to sissy Cake Skate and I'll pay for your cake,
all right, because I want to I want to taste a.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
Sissy cake that she has orange juice cakes, so they're unique. Oh,
all the cakes are made of orange, but she might
have others. But that's like that's one of the things.
Thing is you know what a bunt cake is? Like, Yeah,
it's kind of like that orange juice, maybe a little
orange zest.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
Okay, all right, let me know if you can do it.
Seven seven two seven seven four five two five four.
Uh do you think he wins the fan base?
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Voat Yes, And and the story is coming out about
how he's a Kentucky fan. I read yesterday on KSR
his parents had a life sized DeMarcus Cousins poster in
their home. When I read that, I didn't need to
know anything older than that or younger than that. Well, oh,
people can't have pictures of Oh.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
You're saying those parents did not Okay, his parents had
a life size When I.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Heard that, I don't I don't care. I don't care
about anything else. I know that's dumb, that should not matter,
but it's not like, yeah, I kind of like Kentucky
kind of went the games. If you have a life
size to Marcus Cousins poster in your home, I'm all in.
I don't care. They could have made his mom the
coach and I would have been all in. So I
think the fan connection it goes a long way here.
We know that and him knowing is his exact seat
(21:23):
number from when he had the season tickets. I think
that's gonna carry a lot of weight. Then, of course,
he has one of the best offenses in the last
several years, and.
Speaker 6 (21:31):
You mentioned that before the alarm started going off. That's
how I know him is just what he did with Bonix.
When Bonnick was there a couple years, they were so
fun to watch. He was much watched TV man.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
He deal Gabriel, he got, he became a third pick
in the draft, and he's gonna make this. I think
his name is Dante Moore, a pick. You know that's exciting.
Speaker 6 (21:49):
Do you have an opinion about him coaching through the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
I think he should do it. I think it's good
for us. I really do.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Huh, it's gonna be let's I mean, let's say they
win a couple Let's say he win a game or two.
We're gonna not only We're not only is fans gonna
get to learn our offense. People are gonna say during
the game offensive coordinator Will Stein going to Kentucky, or
people gonna be like, what a great hire. I mean,
all the national media loves the guy, like we got
universal praise yesterday. So I'm good with it. I know
(22:19):
some people would say you need to focus on the job.
But I'm having to do a show with a fire alarm,
so I feel like he can also do I feel
like he can also do it.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
We'll be all right, we'll figure it out here. I
mean he can work the phones from there. I'm with you.
There will be a tight shot of him on the sideline.
It'll have a UK logo like yep.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
First they're trying to get him here tonight for the
game to be introduced, introduced at the game, But there
are flight issues because of the weathers.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Did we only have a private jet up there?
Speaker 5 (22:49):
Maybe they shouldn't go through climbas just go straight.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Yeah, I would assume that was the one that would
from Indiana. But there's a chance he could be introduced
at the game, which would be nuts.
Speaker 5 (22:58):
That would be the place would go nuts.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Not being a press conference today today, though maybe tomorrow,
I don't know. We'll be right back to KSI. TJ. Smith,
personal injury attorney called TJ.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
He'll make them pay.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
All right, so Jay Linda is going to get the cake.
Speaker 6 (23:16):
He's going to get the cake yep.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
And this thing beat during the entire break. How it's
gonna keep beeping? Look, I don't understand how these things work, Shannon.
You you're a tech guy.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
No, I'm not at all.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Why how many times do they?
Speaker 8 (23:31):
Like?
Speaker 5 (23:31):
Once?
Speaker 4 (23:31):
It beeps once? Yeah, you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (23:34):
It beats.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
It works, So what else.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
Do we need to do? I tested my smoke detectors
like two nights ago. Hit the button, it beaped and
went on living, go on, Yeah, I do it. It's
been over thirty minutes now testing what this is?
Speaker 4 (23:47):
There a reason? Maybe somebody can tell me. I don't
know what the reason would be.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
I mean, is it possible Maybe there's not even anybody
in there really doing that. They just hit it one
time and walked away, And now every so often it
just goes off on its own.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
And what if an actual emergency started happening.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Your screw right now?
Speaker 6 (24:01):
We would think it's a test.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
Yeah, we're up high in the air and we would
think it's a test.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
You'd see the smoke.
Speaker 6 (24:06):
There's two us testing a lot of testing with a screwdriver.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
I think I could just take this off the ceiling.
It might be illegal, but I see it. I could
do it. Yeah, Ef, I'm nine two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven. All right, So Jane Lyndon's gonna go
to sissy Cake. Apparently it's right next to Trinity. There
are now people in the text machine arguing about Trinity
versus Saint X, which, by the way, is all living
in Louisville. Is well. Adam Luckert, who covers football for
(24:29):
is played at Saint X, and he's already thinks he
has a rivalry with me. It's like they don't turn
that off, like that lives with them.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Also, Uh, this is gives you an example of how
much will is connected to the Kentucky community. I sat
there and thought of like seven people who had some
connection to him, and I texted all of them and said,
do any of you have Will's? I says Stext some suffering.
Do you have will Stein's number? All seven? Everyone, Shannon,
(25:01):
Everyone's got it. Everyone's got it.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Too bad we don't have the number two. Whoever's running
these fire alarm tests.
Speaker 6 (25:10):
To it.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
All right, let's go to Madison. I'm gonna I'm gonna
break this thing before it's over, Madison.
Speaker 8 (25:18):
How we're done?
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Matt great, Madison, if you can't tell.
Speaker 9 (25:24):
I hate it for you the firearms going off.
Speaker 8 (25:27):
But uh, you know, but I got two things.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
This was one I wish you had a live camera
for yes, if you can see my face just walked in,
all right, Madison, go ahead.
Speaker 8 (25:43):
One is do you think some of the organ commits
that they have set up for the National Signing Day?
You think they'll commit to Kentucky? And two? Who needs
to step up first North Carolina crush to be the
ranked team.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
I don't even know what you should.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Shannon, I mean, what do we do? I'm being honest,
This is like we just have to talk about it
here on there.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
What do we do? I can't?
Speaker 4 (26:11):
I mean, is it better to just let you go
and take people's calls or sho we keep this going on?
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Just keep it going. It's fine. I mean, it's it's
part of the KSR charm to have.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
I can't imagine to listen to I mean, Drew R.
My friends are texting me more more alarms for alarms.
Speaker 6 (26:30):
Now it's like going over and over and over, won't stop.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
They're just messing with you.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Now, you know what, I'm gonna flip off City Center
if we're not careful.
Speaker 6 (26:39):
We can't go to another studio because doing the same
thing in every studio up here.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
And one of our bosses just wrote me and goes, well,
we never know if you're here, so we didn't know
to tell you. I was like, do you want me
to every single day write you and go is there
gonna be a fire alarm?
Speaker 5 (26:51):
The entire show today would have been helpful, just a
little heads up. It would have been helpful to know.
I could have happily gone to the bar. All right.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Matt Madison wanted to know who's going to us step
up tonight in the North Carolina Kentucky game.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
I don't know, Michael.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Go ahead, Michael answer, I don't know.
Speaker 10 (27:10):
Oh guys, I'm not gonna lie. When I heard that
fire alarment, first I thought that something's going on in
my house. So I understand how annoying that could be.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
That's a problem, that's that might be a problem that
everybody feels.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
Go ahead.
Speaker 10 (27:25):
So my question to you is that how do you think,
uh the reaction is going to be for will Stein? Like,
do you think that the energy around the program this
year is going to be similar to how it's been
Like years where we expected Soups to go nine and three,
eight and four.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
He gets a year of grace. No, but I don't think, well,
it's a good question. I appreciate the call. Do you think,
I mean, what do what do you think the expectations
will be year one?
Speaker 5 (27:51):
I think people are gonna give him a year to
get I mean, you got to build a team and
his you know, with one of the hardest schedules we've
ever of course, and he does the feed the studs
offense he's been I got a playmaker, get him the ball.
You know if who came up with that phrase, it
doesn't matter, no care. I don't look backwards. I look
forward to soon as Bobby Petrino, who cares. I've already
forgotten who you said. We've moved on through the studs
here and Lexington. But to that point in one concern
(28:13):
actually have is we have to have studs for him. Defeed.
I mean that's a great concept when you're at Oregon,
because Oregon is loaded with talent. So I think, and
I think he can get it, but I don't know
that he'll be able to just in year one. Just
have an offense full of guys that you can just
get the ball to a bunch of playmakers. Maybe you will,
but I think he needs a little bit of time.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Now there's a new coach, Ryan, you get an injection
of energy, absolutely, so I think that's.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Gonna be good.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
And then I think that once you have that, fans,
as long as people see positivity, fans I think will
give him certainly a year to get going.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
I don't think there's any doubt about it. And I
think he'll take him a minute to get his people
in place that he wants to get here. But if
you're a recruit you want to play in a system
like that, you know he can go out now and
sell his system. And he had at Oregon get some
guys to come here and to make it fun and
exciting the offense.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
And he's the youngest coach in SCC with thirty six.
Thirty six, Wow, I mean, that's that's nuts.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
They've never been older than a coach before this.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Yeah, I mean that's the first time thirty six I did.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
Like on the recruiting Matt Ponatowski put out a picture
of him and will Stein last night because people were wondering,
we'll Kentucky keep him. I mean, Oregon was second his recruitment,
and he tweeted something like I could get used to
this or this might work or something like that.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Have you gone back in the archives? I mean there's
a chance, I mean he played in the KSR. There's
a chance you specifically have written something bad.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
Well, Matt, I don't look backwards all at Fritts.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
I mean, like, there's a chance that there are old
KSR posts that we could take down.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
It's fine.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
I don't know so honestly don't remember. But that was
will Stein played in the.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
I think it was. You could be mean back then. Yeah, yeah,
but again, I don't look backwards. You know, he's the
head coach of Kentucky.
Speaker 10 (30:03):
I know.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
I'm just saying this is the first Kentucky coach.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
That's fine.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Can you remember that one little comment that I wrote
once in the comment section about Cala that state that
brought people brought up four years?
Speaker 5 (30:15):
Yes, yeah, but I don't care. I'm not trying to
be his best friend. I need him to come here
and win games. If he doesn't like something I wrote
back then, that's fine. Do you score him like playing
high school?
Speaker 6 (30:24):
I played playing in high school, but not really at Louisville.
He didn't play a lot, but I think he played
against US. I think he started against US.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
And either I think he got hurt and Teddy Bridgewater
came in.
Speaker 6 (30:37):
I think that's exactly right, or maybe and I.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Think maybe the year before he came in for somebody else.
I think he played against US twice.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
He went three Well, let me make sure this is right.
It looks like he went three for five against Kentucky
in the game.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
I think he played against US twice, once coming in
and once he got hurt and got replaced. I could
be wrong about that, but I think that's correct.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
He came in for Teddy in his senior.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Year, that's okay? Did did we him? The year before?
Speaker 5 (31:04):
He also took a few snaps behind Teddy? Yeah? Through
four passes in one year five and another? Okay, so
he played with Teddy. Jamie, go ahead, Jamie, Yeah.
Speaker 8 (31:16):
I just wanted to ask about the quarterbacks. I know
it'll come up, but why would Cutter want to leave
when we had a poor type performance on the field
for a court, for a quarterback coach that's really gonna
do great things? What do y'all think about this?
Speaker 4 (31:33):
Has anybody said he was, Yeah, I haven't heard he's
gonna leave.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Ran.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
I would think he stays, don't you.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
You would think now more than ever, he wants to stay,
to be in a system like this with a guy
that developed Bone Knicks Dylan Gabriel. Yeah, you want to
be a part of that.
Speaker 5 (31:48):
Yeah. Cutter, I'm sure has to consider all options. But
when you're looking around, what more fun offense would there
be than Organs? And now he's coming to you. Yeah,
if you're a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
I mean, let's say Cutter was gonna leave and he
got to decide where to go to college. Let's say
he decided at the end of the season, I appreciate
the call, I'm leaving Uk Shannon, I'm gonna go somewhere else.
And let's say he had an offer from every school.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
In the country.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
I would think Oregon with the last three dudes getting
drafted in the NFL and the first three rounds would
have been one of his top choices.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
Don't you came in.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
I mean, I'm not saying that's where he would have picked,
but it would have been one of um, yes, it
would have. So then if that offensive coordinator ends up
in your lap, I mean where are you gonna go?
Speaker 5 (32:29):
I think he had an offer from Oregon. I know
he wasn't like top five. He was looking more at
Tennessee and things like that behind Kentucky. But there was
connection there, and I assume it would be with stein
And in the recruitment.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
And as you said yesterday, the one commitment we have
that four star Matt Ponatowski. His other school was Orgon.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
He's got a picture of him and Steiner.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
So you gotta think he's coming.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
H right, We'll have all these pictures next year of
Cutter at the game as a little guy. Now I
have will Steide at the game as a little guy and.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
The style that he likes to play.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
He says fast and free, you know, for the quarterback,
I would think that when we've.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Seen Cutter play well this year it's been like that.
It's been in those up.
Speaker 5 (33:05):
Temple right, I'd watched for stein He might even bring
someone with him to compete with Cutter. Of Cutter's days,
I don't know any of his connections out there, but
when you're there, well, quarter is back. The Dante More
I think has to go back. There's a quarterback at
cal that had been there, but when you're the oc
at Oregon, you have a pretty big contact list of qbs.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
If you're a bourbon lover and a UK fan, grab
a bottle of Club Blue Bourbon.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
Their white label and.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Blue Level label won gold medals at the ASCOT Awards.
They're supporting great athletes through jmi's Nil. Ryan and Drew
selected the recipe along with others, and this week only
get free shipping with the code Holidays. That's right, you
can get the JMI Nil bourbon, the bourbon that we
used to help fund the players. Will Stein will get.
(33:48):
Go to bespoken spirits dot com, bespokenspirits dot com Code
Holidays for free delivery bespokenspirits dot com. You could also
get birthday labels, wedding labels, all of that bespoken spirits
dot com. We'll take a break.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
Maybe this has stopped. I have an update on our past.
By the way, quickly, what Steven texts me that Will
might remember KSR calling him Louisville's little lepre Con quarterback
back in the day.
Speaker 6 (34:15):
Oh no, no, no, no, we didn't.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
I didn't say anyone in particular. I would not have
called someone a le Con quarterback that was you. Okay,
I'll you were really mean back then sometimes.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Like you need it now, you got to say it
to us.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
I've told the story before, but when I was thinking
about running for Senate and I got the background check,
most of the background check, we're Drew in Turkey that
they thought I might have to answer for.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
Sorry, we don't look back. He's going to bring an
exciting offense to Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
All right, so maybe we don't bring that up at
the press cop No, okay, big will Stein fanba will
take a break, very bad, all right. At least it
wasn't me and Drew.
Speaker 5 (34:59):
We've been cleared. We've been clear or Ryan. Actually, yeah
it was it was TJ.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
TJ's the guilty party.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
TJ is the guilty party. With the post on KSR.
That would have been a good guess. He was mean
back then too. Now they were funny. Don't get me wrong,
TJ Drew back then Turkey Hunter like they were funny.
But there were things like I look back and go,
I can't believe we wrote that. Somebody was talking to
me about this the other day and I'm like, yeah,
there are things I just can't we wrote, and uh,
(35:29):
the aforementioned line. That was a TJ line that was
I knew it wasn't me. It didn't sound like something
I would do, but I was gonna own it. If
I did know, I would have been much meaner. Oh
my godness.
Speaker 6 (35:40):
They didn't go off one time.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
They came in during the commercial break and they said,
we've we've turned that off, and they haven't.
Speaker 6 (35:48):
And it didn't go off once during the commercial break.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
You have it, thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (35:54):
One person writes, matthis the best KSR show in a decade.
I love hearing you mad. That's not nice. Another person writes,
it's the most chaos R thing. Every fire alarm going
off NonStop is hilarious, especially right after we hired a
new football coach and.
Speaker 6 (36:08):
We played North Carolina and the record.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
What if we were had him on, that's true perfect.
I mean, then I might have exploded. There's traveling going
on right now, which is why I invited Mitch Barnhart
to come on to talk about the hire. But there's
traveling going on. I'm going to assume that if they
don't do the press conference tomorrow, I could get Mitch
on tomorrow. I don't think they know when they're gonna
(36:32):
do because he still has to prep for for life.
So I think he's coming here, but he's not staying
long because I think he has to go back.
Speaker 6 (36:40):
For practice tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (36:41):
So I think like.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
Our long form interview with him. Who knows when that'll happen.
I mean it may be a bit because of the playoff.
Speaker 5 (36:48):
Well, if we can do it tomorrow, my friend Corey
said he's going to snowblow his driveway if we want
to come, sit there next with snowblower and interview will
start to keep the steaming. We'll be at the bar
Wednesday and Thursday.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
We're also at the bar today, by the way, seven
o'clock for Kentucky Carolina pregame.
Speaker 6 (37:03):
Yeah, that's gotten lost in the shuffle ball. This the
big basketball game, a.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
Huge basketball Yeah, where we're gonna be without Jaylen Lowe,
Jayden Quain's and Mo Diabata.
Speaker 6 (37:12):
Yes, which kind of kind of scares me a little bit.
Speaker 5 (37:15):
I think we'll win, but I am nervous for what
happens if we don't win. You believe, oh win three
in significant games. Eight and a half point favorite. It
dropped me. That was silly. It's down to five and
a half I know Kentucky fans who bet it like,
I'll just lose my money if we win by nine
or more. I'll happily lose that money. That's a lot.
I was shocked. He's down. Dick vi Towe's doing the game.
(37:39):
He is doing the game tonight and next week and.
Speaker 6 (37:42):
Next week he's doing it with Charles Barkley.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
That's so think about that. Tonight we have Dick Vitaw
and Jay Williams against Indiana. We have Dick Vitale and
Charles Bart.
Speaker 6 (37:50):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Can you imagine how little the game will be talked
about when Dick vital and Charles Barkley are on the
car all together.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
So I don't miss a home game. I think I'm
gonna stay home. I would rather listen to that in
the area. It's not gonna be about the game and
talking about something way different than the game.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
I mean, any game that Bill Walton never called. It
was never about the game either.
Speaker 8 (38:15):
Yea.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
He didn't do a lot of ours though.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Yeah, but he's sign me up for it every time
I got one.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
He said, they're doing two games. They're doing this one
and then they're doing like Indian. No No, they're not
doing the one tonight. They're doing Indye Kentucky, Indiana, and
then they're doing the game a first four game in
Dayton together. They're only working together twice. This is the
only regular season game they're working together.
Speaker 5 (38:36):
And when when Charles would do March Madness in the past,
he would just openly admit he didn't know the teams.
Hopefully he does a little more research.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
He's not gonna do any research. They're not gonna have
any idea. What is happening tonight, vital this is his
first game of the year. Yeah, tonight again with Jay Williams.
Speaker 5 (38:59):
I can't believe they gave ifout Tell a nine thirty game. Yeah,
I mean, you think he'd be in bed. Maybe maybe
he wanted it.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
By the way, this is this gotta be one of
the latest starts in RUP, because it really was when
is Rupp had a later start because he used to
be nine.
Speaker 6 (39:12):
But like, I honestly cannot remember a game starting at
nine thirty or later at RUP.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
I don't either. Let's go to Will go ahead, Will.
Speaker 9 (39:22):
I'm laughing because I live in Louisville, and Louisville's like
the uh, you know, smallest large town ever. When everybody
asked you where you went to high school? Starting now
by a conversation, but I went to Trendy knows some
of Will's family. See this has been going on for
a while. They actually ask him two years ago to
be the OC and he turned them down. So I
(39:44):
suspect conversation has been going on for a while.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
So let me ask you.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
And I'm not I'm not in any way, so I'm
not in any way saying whatever you say is not correct.
When did you get confirmed this happened?
Speaker 9 (39:56):
I didn't get confirmed about the head coach.
Speaker 5 (39:58):
I had to reach down.
Speaker 9 (39:58):
I know his uncle pretty well, and you know, a
few months ago when things were going south, I said, hey,
how you know can we bring him back as an OC?
We need one. He said, well, actually they asked him
two years ago and he turned him down. And you know,
I just heard it yesterday like everybody else.
Speaker 5 (40:13):
Okay, so you actually didn't have a source. Sound like
some of these folks.
Speaker 9 (40:16):
We actually shout out to Sissy Cakes because you can
find them at Paul's Fruit Market and they are awesome.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
Appreciate to call. I don't know where Paul's Fruit Market
is we're just not enough into this louisvillelle telling you
this Trinity culture is going to be taken over over
the university. It'll be wait and see.
Speaker 6 (40:34):
It is a part of Louisville that is kind of
you're right, exceparate from the whole rest of the city.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
Oh it is it the Trinity And okay, fine, I'll
throw insane next they don't get mad. And then the
whole assumption and like all sacred heart, like that is
all that is a whole thing, and it's like it's
it's only thing that I was you know, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
I was never part of that, but it is it.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
It is all over and every I mean the amount
of people that were like will Stein has I know
his uncle, I know his cousin, I know his sister.
Like it's like, that's just that's what it is. Bobby,
go ahead, Bobby.
Speaker 9 (41:12):
Hey, guys.
Speaker 7 (41:13):
So the most excited thing that I'm about will Stein,
and I hope Cutter Bowl he stays because I hope
he's listening. Is whenever he has a quarterback in their
first year with him, that take a huge leap and efficiency.
Bo Nicks went he was already efficient. He was seventy
one percent before will Stein, after will Stein seventy eight percent.
Same thing with Dylan Gabriel Oklahoma, he was at sixty
(41:36):
eight percent, he went to will Stein seventy three percent.
It's insane. I'm just so excited to see this QB
Guru go and I just wanted to thank you all
for all of y'all do thank you.
Speaker 4 (41:46):

I didn't know all that, so yeah, very exciting. We
will talk more about will Stein Jay lenn in his
live right now at Sissy k Yeah. Yeah, we will
see what the scene is at Sissy Cakes and maybe
we'll talk about basketball, and maybe I'll yell at this
alarm again.
Speaker 5 (42:04):
