Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, that's stunk. I mean, there's no way to sugarcoat
that was. That was a tough one. That was a tough,
tough loss at your on your home court. Ruppery into
the crowd, brought it was rocking, introduced your new head coach,
head football coach, and you stunk it up. I mean
it was bad. It was a bad loss. It was
a bad performance. Another way to say it. This Ryan
(00:23):
Lemon Intour the local Total Dore was KSR postgame show.
For those that missed it earlier. We mentioned that Matt
is out his his dad had a couple procedures today
that he wanted to be there for his dad and
with his mom, so he took the night off and
once again we got an ugly awful postgame show to do.
I mean, they couldn't score in the second half. Well,
(00:45):
it went almost ten minutes without a field goal. Oh
for thirteen from the field at one stretch, finished the
game two of sixteens from the field. Billy you and
me and Dave Baker could get two guys off the
street and we could score one bucket within ten minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, and a team that's supposed to shoot thirty five
threes a game only made one tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
And who had on their Bengo card the one three
pointer was hit all night was Brandon Garrisong. I tave
if anybody predicted that one, they need to go put
all their money in the on the in the lottery.
So look, we heard all summer how this was a
great shooting team, how they couldn't miss, how Trent Noah
cam Williams were just hitting one hundred in a row,
(01:30):
shooting eighty percent in practice from three. Where is it, man,
it's not. It's not around right now. That stretch where
they went ten minutes without scoring a field goal was brutal,
absolutely brutal. And here's here's this is just my opinion.
You know, my dad was a coach, so I've watched
a lot of basketball, and I heard him say a
(01:52):
million times, you're playing like you're behind, play like you're ahead.
We had the lead, yet we were playing like we were behind,
coming down, jacket up shots early in the shot clock,
jacket up shots out of the offense. I mean, we
could call some guys out, but it's obviously you know
who it is. And if you watch the game, you
(02:13):
saw when they had a six point lead, we made
one pass and shot a three pointer. Next trip down
we drove baseline through the same guy. His last name
Ryn's with Baberbean. So I don't know, man, it's frustrating.
I mean, we can try to be funny about it,
but nobody's happy. Nobody's in a good mood. My Twitter
(02:36):
feed is just blown up with people, upset with the coaches,
with the players. You know, when you can't when you're
not shooting the ball well and then you can't make
a stop in crunch time on defense, you're not gonna
beat anybody, and it's gonna be hard to beat people.
And I think that's just what happens. So now their
first three big non conference games, you lost all three
(03:00):
of them. Louisville whoopcha, Michigan State whoopcha, and North Carolina
beat you on your home court. So out of the
six non conference games where we all pointed to when
most of us all said they got to be at
least four and two, maybe even five and one, you're
owing three and oh yeah, you got Gonzaggi coming up
on Friday, maybe one of the top two teams in
(03:22):
the country. I know they got beaten in that tournament
out there, but they're still super super good. So I
don't know. And here's the frustrating thing is, I don't
see any answers. You can't go to the waiver wire.
You got some of your stars sitting out there hurt. Still,
I don't know what the heck's going on with diabate,
(03:43):
So how do you fix it? That second half? Brandon
Garrison and Cam Williams hardly played it all in the
second half. They may not even played a minute in
the second half. They may have been out there just briefly.
But Pope just went with Aberdeen, ote Chandler, Yellovich and Marino,
(04:04):
and he ran with those five guys. I think Noah
got a little run out there, and I don't I
don't know what's wrong with Trent Man. He's he's supposed
to be your shooter. I don't know if he's lost
he's luck he got when he got hurt, if he
lost his confidence and he's trying to find it again.
I don't know. Lot just a heck of a lot
more questions than answers right now after what we just watched. So, Billy,
(04:27):
what were your your thoughts on running the board listening
to that mess?
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Well, it's our it's our late one, right, so these
these late games were always in for a long haul.
We get a little slap happy at the end. It's
the first loss under Pope with the opponent scored less
than seventy points. So it's a little bit of an
odd game than what we've mostly seen. But you said,
how is this what's going to change? I mean, doesn't
(04:51):
getting back a Jalen Lowe of Jaden Quainton's in a
modea Bote changed this team? Or was this still a
game that Kentucky should have won.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
I think they definitely should have won the game without
a doubt. You got a six point lead. You gotta
protect this that have come down and jack up shots
out of the offense early in the shot clock. You
gotta be smarter than that. Like we made some not
very smart decisions, but you break it a good point.
The question is how do you fix it. You gotta
get low and Quainton's back. I don't know about the
bud dea Bote what's going on him, But if you
(05:19):
get those three guys back, I think you're a different team.
You really are a different team. So maybe that is
the answer. So I want to read this tweet coming
from Cody Couch. All right, he tweets a lot of
pretty good stuff in their last eight ranked matchups. So
when they're playing a ranked team, Kentucky is one in
(05:40):
seven this year Louisville, Michigan State, North Carolina lost lost loss.
They were one in five last year, one in four
last year on and three this year, one in seven
in the last eight ranked matchups. Got to win the
big games, man, I mean there early in the season
(06:01):
last year we beat Duke Gonzaga, you know, got some
of those non conference wins. But then we got to
the SEC Tennessee, Bama, Missouri, Auburn, they beat us all.
So I don't know, it's not gonna be in a
pretty couple of days. You know, we had all this
great celebration. I mean, will Stein was there, Billy. They
introduced will Stein. He set courtside with his wife watching
(06:26):
his first games. Kentucky had football coach tay Shawn Prince
was there, Billy. They did two wise. It was such
an exciting night. They did a wy in the first
half with will Stein, they did a win and a
second half with Tayshawn Prince, and you still stunk it. Up.
That second half was awful. I mean, that was some
awful basketball in that second half.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Well, Kentucky couldn't grab a rebound. I mean the offensive rebounds.
UNC had twenty.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Twenty offensive rebounds and they got like what twenty two
second chance points something like that.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
And Kentucky had eight offensive rebounds, five second chance points.
Eight assists to nine turnovers.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
That's huge tonight, that's huge. We thought this team when
they played Perdue, they were passing the ball so well.
The assistant turnout ratio was great. That's awful. Eight assists,
nine turnovers. Again, that may go back to we need
Jalen Lowe. We need that point guard. Aberdeen is a
better guard off the ball. What was he tonight?
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Who?
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Denzel?
Speaker 1 (07:27):
He was four or thirteen? It felt like he was
four of twenty. He's takes some bad shots. Jasper probably
needs some more minutes, you know. Jasper I think took
a couple of shots. Maybe he shouldn't have, but he's
so good he can get in the lane. Once he
gets to the lane, then he's got to either shoot
it or lob it up to somebody.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
And yeah, I don't know about Jasper, but Yellovich is
somebody that should be seeing a lot more minutes. I thought,
you know, he needed to be rebound better. But he
played some pretty good ball tonight. Ryan.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
He was the player of the game is sitting down
with Jack Gibbons, and deservedly so, because not only did
he do what he needed to do offensively, he was
the guy on Caleb Williams most of the game, especially
in the second half. Caleb Williams was quiet. What he
ended up with like thirteen points, he had nine. Most
of the game he could even get double figures, and
that a lot of that is due to Yellovich's defense.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Yeah, Caleb Wilson had fifteen points, twelve rebounds, five of
nineteen from the field. He was plus four and thirty
five minutes. I mean, for the most part, you did
what you needed to do against him. But that's the
tallest team in the country according to Ken Palm, and
you could tell by the rebounding numbers.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
So we want to hear from you. If you're still up,
you're driving home. I saw the traffic backup on Newtown
Pike because that was coming in. I'm in the studio
with Billy. We want to hear from you. Eight five, nine,
two eight h two to eight seven eight five nine
two eight Oh cats, yuck awful. This is what I
said after the Louisville football loss on Saturday. We've had
(08:52):
a rough couple of days going with the Vanderbilt football loss,
the Louisville football loss. Now this North Carolina loss, pitiful, pitiful, pitiful.
We'll be right back. This is the Local Total Leader's
KSR postgame show. All right, welcome back the Local Totaladers
KSR postgame show. Apparently the six thirty am feed is
(09:14):
maybe on the Alien Show right now, Bill, it's late.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
You know, the Alien Show needs to be played, so
it's late.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
The Grimlins in there in the control room are running
on the speinny wheel as fast as they can. We're
working on it, though, we're working on So the six
thirty feed was having some issues, but the eighty four
to BHAs feed apparently as fines.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
All right, yeah, yeah, I believe so.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
So are we on like the regular signal on six
thirty or is it just a streaming feed?
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah that I don't know about six thirty, But you know,
I understand the transmitter is as frustrated as we are tonight.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Ryan, Well, the transmitter must be a Kentucky basketball fan.
And then we watched that game and decided to check out,
like and one more thing I wanted to get for
go to the phone line. Yeah, we got a good
shot the end of the game, Chandler Beaty's man went baseline.
He had he you know, he got to the rim,
just couldn't get it to fall. He you know, that
left handed. But he hit one left handed coming underneath
(10:10):
just right a couple of minutes, a couple of seconds
before that. So I felt, you know, I'm not upset
with the last shot we got. It was there and
he just couldn't get it to drop. And I thought
we saw some signs of the old Otaga. O way,
the old Otaga. I saw glimpses of him tonight, you
know where as soon as he gets the ball, boom
straight to the basket, went hard. Now, he missed a
(10:31):
couple that he show he should have hit. But I
think the old Otaga's coming back.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah, Goose was talking about that and how he wasn't
getting the ball enough. Yeah, in that ten minute stretch
where Kentucky really didn't score, So maybe look for him
to continue to do that moving forward.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
And that's where I'm telling you, man, they were playing
like they were behind. You had the lead, you had
a six point lead. You're at home. Play smart basketball,
all right? I ran it enough. Who's our first Callerbilly?
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Mark is a first Mark?
Speaker 1 (10:59):
Go ahead? Mark?
Speaker 4 (11:02):
H Yeah. We keep talking about missing three of our starters,
but you know, I think one of those guys was
with his last year hasn't started a game this year.
Carolina's out there point guard. You know, there's no crime,
there's wins and losses, and we're just looking bad guys.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Thank you, Mark, appreciate it. Yeah, they're their little point guard.
That was his named Derek Price. Hit the last shot
there at the end of the game. Derek Dixon. H
he I mean he just does his job. You know,
he's a point guard, past first point guard. But he
hit the big three and then he hit the drive
to basically win the game for him. Tough, tough competitor, man.
He was good. Our point guards are taking bad shots,
(11:48):
Russian shots. We need Jalen lowback desperately. Can he play
on Friday?
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, Friday, it might be ugly and.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Zacha scares me to Yeah. I mean when we did
our preseason predictions, I thought they would beat Michigan State. Obviously,
Michigan State now is one of the best teams in
the country. Beat Louisville and beat Indiana and beat North Carolina.
I had a four and two losing to Gonzaga and
then Saint John's. Well, I've already lost the first three
of these games. Please Jamen Lowell.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Hey, at least she had IU coming up.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Well, we go ten minutes without scoring. It's gonna be
tough to beat anybody, that's true. Who's next, Robert, Robert,
go ahead, Robert.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
Hey, thank you guys to take my call. I know
this is a tough uh you know, time to do this,
but I just wanted to say. I think Mark Pope
just doesn't have it. He like we've had like how
many games now, and he just does not have the
(12:57):
game knowledge to lead it like Kentuck to be the
like to win. So after this, like like where do
we go? Like it was such a tough loss, and
you know, I just don't know what we do. It
(13:17):
was so bad and I don't know.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Yeah, robertily appreciate it. Corey Price just sent me this stat.
Kentucky now has a losing record versus Power four teams
under Mark Pope at fourteen and fifteen excluding the exhibitions.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Wow, that's surprising. I mean they started so hot, right, yeah,
and then they didn't they break a record for like
wins versus.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Most of the ranked teams opponents.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Last year it did, but then it kind of fell
apart late and then this year it's just been a collapse.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
The SEC last year was so strong. You heard Jay Williams,
by the way, was Jay Williams and Dick by Towel
on the broadcast tonight? They were Did they happen to
mention when Jay used to play at Duke any of those?
Speaker 2 (14:01):
I only hear the radio broadcasts. Huh, So you tell.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Me I'm with you. I was listening to radio. So
I wonder if Dick by tal and Jay we have
talked to any about the old Duke Kentucky games during
the BRONC. I just wondering, who's next car.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Sounds like they did, Big Don, Big Don, go ahead,
Big Don.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
Hey Ryan. I'm just I'm all my way home from
the game, and ever since the game ended, I just
can't get my mind straight. I've cried, I've cried, I
spent my heart earned money three hundred dollars on tickets.
We went hey before the game, went to Jeffrey's two
hundred dollars, and I went there and I watched that crap, sir,
(14:40):
I watched. I just thought, why.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
Am I here?
Speaker 6 (14:44):
Why am I here? At ten o'clock at night? Driving home?
I thinks before right now one thirty in the morning,
and we're losing to UNC at home. This is Kentucky basketball.
We don't do that. And I'm just I don't know.
I don't know where you go from here, Pope. Just
I don't think he's the answer. And I don't say
I'll get six, I'll think it's over. I'm sorry, right,
(15:05):
I'll hang.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Up, Big don A great call. I mean, that's you,
the feeling. We can feel it in your voice, and
you probably represent most of the fan base tonight after
this game. Here you are, you're driving home on I
sixty four, dark parts of the state, where's no lights
in it? Oh, well, go ahead, if you got more
to say, done, you go right ahead.
Speaker 6 (15:25):
Yeah, yeah, give me a minute. I'm just I don't know.
It's been for the last what six years, bullcrack, bullcrap.
Ever since COVID, we haven't got anything doing out of
this program, which it's went the hell one sweet sixteen.
I can't do it no more. Like, what's the point
(15:47):
watching that team?
Speaker 7 (15:49):
Please just give me answers.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Big Donald appreciate it. I wish we did no answers.
I think our answers are sitting over there on the
bench and Low and Jayden and Quainton's I think those
guys have got to get healthy for this team to
turn it around, because right now, I just they're just
there's issues with this squad we got right now.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Yeah, I don't want to jump the gun. I mean,
I get the emotion you're but you're without your starting
point guard, you're utility guy that was a prize catching
the transfer portal and Jane Quaintins, who's a top five pick.
So could it change, could it turn around?
Speaker 5 (16:22):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (16:23):
But there is some question marks. I mean, you should
have won that game even without all of those three guys.
Mark Pope's roster construction needs to be questioned. That there's
not enough shooters on this team.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
And we thought this summer of the way, everybody talking
about how good shooters they were, We're gonna be okay.
We'll be okay with Trent and Cam Williams and Yellovich
Aberdeen's shooting, will Otega's get found he shot. So I
don't know. I loved a Big Don's call because I
think that a lot of fans going home tonight feel
the exact same way he does.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
So and you had all those point guard injuries last
year and now you're going through the same problems because
your primary point guard got hurt. Where's the depth? Maybe
we now know why he was so mad that Travis
Perry left. That was your third string point guard.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
They could have used him, but then you know, jasper
paid like what five minutes. I mean, he's not ready
for this. He can play the crappy teams, but right
now he is not physically ready to play against these teams.
Right now, who's our next caller?
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Man, I'm starting to feel a little anger from the
last call.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Big Don got you fired, I think, so fired up?
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Luke is next?
Speaker 8 (17:29):
Luke?
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Go ahead, Luke.
Speaker 9 (17:31):
Hey Ron. I first just want to say thank y'all
for being on because y'all bring a lot of positive energy,
especially after I lost that bad I was there tonight
and I'm on my way back to owensbro actually right now,
and they're in warm ups, otego away. Out of the
fifteen three pointers i've seen him shoot, he made eleven
or twelve of them, I mean it was like he
(17:52):
was barely missing. And then it's like once the game started.
I mean, the the proof is in the in the
box score. Brandon Garrison was our only only player to
hit at three. And it's just it's starting to make
me wonder the way they've been playing recently, if Jaden
Quaintin's and Jalen Low and Mode diabat are are truly enough,
(18:13):
I guess I'll let y'all get off here and see
what y'all think.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Well, be careful going back to Owensborough. That's a long
route going on in the middle of the night here.
So yeah, yes, sir, they're all of In the first half,
they were oh of three from three point range. Oh
of three, I'm sorry, oh of eight from three point
range in the first half. Oh of eight. Second half
one of five, and your one is Brandon Garrison took
(18:38):
a couple ill advised three pointers. I think, like I
said when we when we had the lead early in
the shot clock, I don't I think they're better shooters
than that, but they got to be smarter than that
when they take their shot, for sure. And if Otaga,
I don't know. I'm not gonna complain about Otega, because man,
we saw signs of the old old Taga tonight going
to the basket. Did even shot even try it? Three
(19:00):
pointed tonight?
Speaker 10 (19:01):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Yeah, he was oh for one, oh for one. After
the game, I didn't hear a ton of pope after
the game. I did hear one quote he said on
radio in which he said, these guys have got to
learn the concept of learning to make plays for each other. Yeah, yeah,
are they just out there trying to get their own
trying to play me ball?
Speaker 1 (19:19):
At times? I think a couple of guys were That's
what I'm saying. And they just were playing like they
were behind and took some bad shots. Went took another
one for go to break.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah, let's take one more. We got super Stein?
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Super Stein? Is this is this the new coach? William Stein?
William Stein?
Speaker 7 (19:37):
Hey, what's up? Fellas? I am glad to be on
and thank you all for having me. Unfortunately, I don't
know that I could save us from this one, but
I am here, so that's good. I wanted to just
say if you have, don't mind, I have a couple
of questions and then comments.
Speaker 11 (19:55):
Then I'm gonna have.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
A happy ending.
Speaker 7 (19:57):
If that's okay, Yeah, go ahead, I'm gonna say I
was just I think the biggest thing with me about
this team is is forget, like you know that we
what as we get our guys back for one hundreds
of healthy just that's great. Forget what happens the end
of the rest of the season. What I don't understand is,
(20:18):
you know, average me. So take Nick Thompson, average guy
six foot, one hundred and ninety pounds on a good
day and you know, no real basketball athleticism. But I can't.
I love Kentucky. So I'm searching the internet and I'm
watching UK practice from the moment I can see it
(20:39):
on YouTube, just the first minute that I can see
them practice. I watch and here's the problem. I am
who I just explained, But I could see in the
first minute of watching this team like, oh man, they
they really they can't shoot very well. And then I'd
(20:59):
watch a more minutes and then I'm like, oh, they
they're really bad at shooting. And then you know, you
watch for a whole five minutes and you're like, Okay,
this team cannot shoot at all. And my question is,
how how did Mark Pope signe off on all of
these players, knowing that we brought him here for offense
(21:22):
and for shooting, and how could he the orchestrator of
all of that, you know, kind of miss that. And
that's that's the question I feel like has to be
asked to him, and you know, I'll respect whatever he answers.
And the other comment I want to make is is, oh, way,
you're right, he kind of looked like he was throwing
(21:42):
flashes tonight. But man, have y'all not noticed like from
the beginning of the season, It's like somebody took his cap.
It's like it's like Superman's out there, but he's like
has no girlfriend. His girlfriend was taken from him and
he where is his like where is his moxie? Where
where is the guy from last year?
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Well that's what we're saying.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
Yeah, time positive, positive, positive. Hey, we're volleyball school. Let's
go the Hudson, Let's go Brooklyn Delay, Let's go UK volleyball.
That's what we do. Shout out Kennedy Thompson say trip
to Kentucky Owensboro thank you all.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Right, appreciate it. Superstying. Yeah, volleyball coming up on Thursday,
that maybe snap us out of this funk. After the Vanderbilt,
Louisville now North Carolina trifecta we just went through. So
but the guy, you know, he brings up some good points.
I think Pope made the roster. Basically he looked at
what what was weak last year, correct toughness, defense, rebounding.
(22:41):
So he went out and tried to find some guys
he thought he could count on defensively, and there are
much better defensive team and they held North Carolina to
sixty seven points. Most of the time, you're gonna win
this game. But like he said, where's your shooters? Well,
he missed out on something and he tried to get
some and he just didn't get any of them that
he was trying to get. They thought, maybe came Wayams
and Trent, we're gonna be the answer to yellow Itch.
(23:01):
They were all gonna be the answer by shooting one
of thirteen from three. Be hard to beat a lot
of teams in the NCC.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
I mean, we've been screaming for him to shorten the
rotation and play guys over twenty five to thirty minutes,
and then tonight you've got four guys over thirty minutes.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Yeah, that second half he left those five guys this
ran with him.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Why, I mean they went ten minutes and didn't score
of basking.
Speaker 5 (23:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
I don't have to change the lineup. Then Mark Frank
Rutled has joined us in the studio, and Frank Franklin
is also here as well. So are you gonna join
us next segment?
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Now Mike's not on now it is Frank Franklin gonna
join us next se I.
Speaker 12 (23:40):
Have a lot to do for the websites, but I
can blog and talk. I'm multitasking. We at least work
all day anyway. What's what's more, We.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
At least we'll after a commercial break. We need to
get you your thoughts on the game.
Speaker 12 (23:50):
All right, I'll try to wrap up this blog post,
hit publish, and I'll be ready next time. All right,
go to Kentucky's portrado dot com.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Frank Franklin is in the house with Frank Rutled and
the Kentucky Wildcats stunk tonight sixty seven sixty four lose
to North Carolina at Ruperina when Tayshaw Prince was there.
Willie Stein was there.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Rondo was in the crowd.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Rondo was there. Come the Hammer was sitting on court side.
He was there. Darrel Isaacs, gosh, right back. This is
Local thor leaders KSR postgame Show. Welcome back Local to
leaders KSR postgame Show. As Kentucky lays a turd sixty
seven sixty four to u n C at Roperina. Listen,
(24:33):
I gotta say something real first. Billy our Sports has
been here since nine o'clock this morning, did the pre
show at nine o'clock this morning, and he just saved
the show. Put it back on six thirty. D blap,
well done. We're having some issues where the show was
not on six thirty lap. Billy fixed it. That engineer.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
I think it's Billy there. Well, I mean, well.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Here, I'm bragging on you thought you thought you said
it was on.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
No it is.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
I think I'm just uh, you know, don't know anything nowadays.
I'm just so tired. Ryan, I'm just glad it's on
the air.
Speaker 12 (25:05):
Shannon just sleeps there getting resting up for the pre show.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Oh yeah, how much I'll hear about how he had
to stay up late to watch this one. So that
other voice you hear is my son Frank Franklin, Hello,
who has joined us. He unfortunately was at Reperena for
the game tonight. I'll just open the floor to you, Drew.
What are your thoughts?
Speaker 12 (25:21):
I thought about throwing a Christmas tree off the top
of the escalator.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
No, not that bad.
Speaker 12 (25:26):
Very disappointed though it was such a great atmosphere. I mean,
they just wasted RUP's fastball tonight. The nine to thirty
start did not slow down Big Blue Nation. They were
late in the game. I believe it was tired. I
just kind of looked around during the time out and
it is midnight and that place was on fire.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Not just that.
Speaker 12 (25:42):
I'm sure you've already mentioned the will Stein introduction Rondo
Tayshawn volleyball team. One thing after another, bringing the energy,
and then the team can't score a field goal in
the second half.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Have you seen a drought like that where they went
ten minutes without a field goal the game? Two of
their last sixteen.
Speaker 12 (26:02):
I hadn't seen a lot of things. One for thirteen
from three on a team I'm told is gonna take
thirty a game and is full of shooters. One for
thirteen and you're one is Brandon Garrison.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
I mean, do you have that in your bingo card?
Speaker 3 (26:14):
It did not.
Speaker 12 (26:15):
My bingo card got waughted up early into the game.
You know, the three point shooting in that scoring drought
stand out. But on the glass, I mean the numbers
are crazy, twenty offensive rebounds, but it's not like North Carolina.
I mean they have size. They're good, definitely, but Kentucky
was just standing around looking at him. They weren't even
trying to rebound. And then the I believe it was
(26:36):
late in the game. You know, I'm there and I'm
trying to process all this here on the fly, but
I think Yellovich got a block up by one, But
then North Carolina got two offensive rebounds and hits the
three that I believe was the final go ahead. I
think I'm clear on that regardless. It was just one
offensive rebound after another offensive rebound, and it was purely effort. Yes,
they have size, but I could have gone out there
(26:56):
and rebounded against that Kentucky team. Malcomarino was bringing it.
He didn't have any help.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
He was doing what everything he could on the defensive end,
you know, blocking shots, trying to get some rebounds, but
he'd had zero help. I think Yelevis did a great
job on Caleb Wilson to I.
Speaker 12 (27:09):
He did, He's got a start, he does. We were
talking about that on the pregame show. I've been trying
to speak that into his existence for a few weeks.
Jack Pilgrim was big on him on the pregame show,
and he did a great job defending Wilson. I mean,
he's we all had to worry about him coming over
from European Ball after having Big Z a couple of
years ago, looking like you didn't know how to guard that.
(27:29):
We throw that narrative out the window. Yellovich can play
some defense, and in a game like this, they need
his size too.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
So most of the calls that the theme seems to
be how do they fix it? You know, how can
they how can they save it?
Speaker 11 (27:42):
Fix?
Speaker 12 (27:42):
Fix it? Good luck?
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Is there a way to fill Franklin.
Speaker 12 (27:47):
Unless Quaintance comes back and he's just Anthony Davis Good
or something. It's just that's so bad. There's nothing to
be excited about.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
This squad they've got right now has issues.
Speaker 12 (27:58):
Yes, I mean, you know they're still lingering whatever is
from Louisville but I mean they just have like the
team is not even built well. No, like your three
point shooting team, but I'm not sure you have many
three point shooters Denzel Aberdeen. I don't know the record
for airball threes in a season, but I think he's
already doubled that up. I don't know how someone can
(28:18):
airball so many three pointers.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
And if your best three point shooter is Colin Chandler,
where you got to give you more shots?
Speaker 12 (28:23):
Man, he got a good look. That's the end I
sit on there at the end, and I thought he
had it. I mean, it was a great laying he
needed to finish that. That was a tough loss.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
I had no problem with that last shot. He got
to the rim with the left hand. He'd hit one
pretty similar to that just right before that. I had
no problem with that last shot.
Speaker 12 (28:39):
You know, way kind of had a breakout game, played
with some energy. Sixteen points. The guys hit their free throws,
They missed a few critical wins, some front ends that
cost them, but overall shot decently well. But I mean,
when you don't score in the second half and you
just watch the other team rebound their own, missus, we're lucky.
Was only three point loss.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
You're exactly right to go tim in without scoring and
they get twenty offensive rebounds. How did how would they
be able to keep it close?
Speaker 12 (29:03):
Even when Kentucky was leading in the second half. For
a little bit, I kept thinking, like, how are they winning?
This feels like North Carolina has control of this game.
Part of that's because yellowvil John Wilson. He really didn't
dominate it too bad. He had some flashy moves there late,
a little turnaround and was like, Oh, that's that's one
of those dudes. But other than that, I thought they
defended him pretty well. The other big guy was unstoppable.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Since you were at REP, I wanted to tell you that.
I don't know if you know this or not, but
Dick vital he broadcast some games at Jay Williams used
to play in when Duke used to play Kentucky. So
just you may have missed that.
Speaker 12 (29:36):
All right. So I was there and I haven't heard
the broadcast. I was getting a lot of Dick Vitel
complaints and I don't like that. I mean, he's tick
fy tell but I'm hearing it might not have been
his best.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Well. He just wanted people to know that he did
a lot of Jay Williams games, especially when they played Kentucky.
Speaker 12 (29:50):
Okay, brought that up a few times.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Yeah, it was kind of the good little love fest
there for a while.
Speaker 12 (29:56):
Yeah. Well, I didn't hear much of the post game show.
I was just walking back here and thought, i'll see
a light on upstairs. I'll go check on Billy. I
thought you were at home.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Actually, you know, I forgot the equipment at the restaurant.
Speaker 12 (30:07):
That's why you're here. I didn't expect you. I would
have come up if i'd known. I was gett tricked
and being on the radio, which kidding, good to be here,
but I was gonna ask you. I did hear a
caller right before I walked in the building when I
turned it on my headphones, that he seemed to be
very upset. Has that been the theme? I don't want
to take up all the callers times here. I want
to let everyone vent. But I heard Don that was
pretty pretty upset.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Big Don was upset driving home on I sixty four.
Speaker 12 (30:28):
That's the one I heard.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
He went to Jeff Ruby spit two hundred dollars, been
one hundred dollars on tickets, and then they lose again
and Big Don kind of summarize what a lot of
fans are feeling.
Speaker 12 (30:36):
Then I think, well, let's get me out of the
way and get some more Big Dons. That's what people
want to hear.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
All right, Phone lines are open eighty five nine two
o two two eight seven. If you're going to work
on your blog. If you don't chime in, just chime in.
Speaker 12 (30:46):
Okay, all right? Can we cuss? No, there are certain
words you can't just checking, just checking.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
And and we do have to end by two or
the Grimlins really take over.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Oh my god, what time is it? Oh, we got
to get out of here. Okay, let's take a couple
calls and we'll take a break. Why Mandy, go ahead, Mandy.
Speaker 13 (31:03):
Hey, Tavy Frank here in a dark place, I feel like, okay,
I just feel like last year Pope. I feel like
Pope had something up his sleeve, like in a game
if we were down, like, all right, post gonna call timeout.
He's got something up this sleep like this year, have
no confidence and that whatsoever. I was like, what in
the world is going on? But at least I got
(31:28):
some sissy cakes today, So that's positive.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
There's a bright spot for you man. You appreciate the
phone call. Yeah, Pope, h for all the analytics. I
don't know how your analytics is going to help you
when you can't hit a three pointer and you can't
get a rebound, and you could can't score within ten minutes.
Speaker 12 (31:44):
All right, I'm back. Sorry, I couldn't shut up any longer.
Speaker 7 (31:46):
Good.
Speaker 12 (31:46):
Since you brought up his analytics, what do the analytics
say about taking out your best players early in the
game when you have a lead?
Speaker 1 (31:51):
That stainking.
Speaker 12 (31:52):
Okay, I'm going back to my block. You guys are
doing great.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
That's the number on social media. The number one complaint
I think is still the mass substitution. You know, substitute
in two or three guys. Usually at the first TV
time out you can have a hot hand. Nope, time
to make a change, and I know his Pope has said.
His point is, I want to have fresh legs at
the end of the game. I got to give my
guys a break, and plus the subs, I need them
(32:14):
to get in the game a little bit in case
I need them late in the game.
Speaker 12 (32:18):
He needs to have some difficult conversations with a few guys.
One of them might have hit a three tonight, and
that's good, and you know, I want Jasper to work out,
but Pope's really got to get away from the play. Everybody,
especially when Oway and Chandler in that group, kind of
have it going early, and it's like you do a
line change to get everybody their time. I used to
coach Hudson Automotive third grade. We made it to the
(32:39):
championship game. Great team, but you know we'd line up
at half court and you'd like point to the guy
across from you, and everybody had to play a quarter
and every mom had to be happy.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
That was third grade.
Speaker 12 (32:48):
We don't need to be doing that right now, Kentuck.
You got need to have some difficult conversations and some
minutes need to be changing a little bit.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
That is Frank Franklin, Frank Rutledge was here while ago
as well. We got one more break, one more second.
Speaker 7 (32:58):
We have got it.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
We have to get out here by two o'clock. It's
not our decision. We have to so we'll take our
final break. Come back our final segment. This is the
Local Total Leaders ks our postgame show. All right, welcome back,
final segment, The Local Total Leaders ks Our postgame show Kentucky,
North Carolina rupp Arena. Great crowd, loud crowd, will Stein,
(33:22):
your new football coaches there, Tayshawn's there, Rondo's there, and
you can't score a basket for ten minutes. Finished to
Game two of sixteen. We kind of talked a lot.
Speaker 6 (33:33):
We got this.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
We have to be out of here by two o'clock,
so let's run through some calls real quick and then
we'll try to get means we can sol who we
got first, bis.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Well quickly, Ryan, it's time for our Johnny Rocker Personal
entry Attorney, money maker of the game.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Oh, this is gonna be good.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Injured, get small town compassion with big city results when
you call the Rocker at two seven zero three two
one four four two nine. We try not to pick
the MVP on this segment. Yeah, Tony, we're picking Andrea
Yeleovich six points, three to six shooting, had four rebounds.
Not the best effort, but I thought played good defense
at times. Somebody that should probably be getting more minutes,
(34:05):
and while he probably needed to rebound a little better, Ryan,
he is somebody that stood out to me and is
our Johnny Rocker personal injury Attorney, moneymaker of the game.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
I got a great call because, like we've already said,
he did the job on Caleb Wilson kind of shut
him down a little bit tonight and that kind of
gave him a chance to stay in the game. So
good job, good pick. All right who we got first?
Bear Claw? Bear Claw, go ahead, bear Claw.
Speaker 11 (34:28):
Now as it going, guys, I'm not going to be
all doom and gloom like everybody else. We only lost
back three, we didn't have our starting point guard, we
didn't have our best defensive player, Moda Baute. And come
in January, probably we're going to get Jayden Clayton's back.
We're going to be a completely different team sec play,
We're going to be great. We're still Final four bound.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
We're good.
Speaker 11 (34:49):
Go Cats.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Wow, mister bear Claw, mister positive there. I think we
needed to hear that a little bit. I don't know
if it's gonna come to fruition, but he brings some
good points. Our better players are not even playing right now.
Speaker 12 (35:03):
I guess we need some good balance.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (35:05):
I don't have I don't share the enthusiasm and the optimism,
but we need that.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
We need that little little boost.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
When Mark Pope said Jayalen Lowe was going to be
day to day forever. I didn't worry about him playing
through a thing.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
I want to know what's going on, Diabata. Something's going on.
You don't have a springed ankle and miss a week
and a half, yet you still practice. Whyn't you playing?
Speaker 12 (35:26):
I don't have that answer, but I don't like that.
It's December second, well now third, at this hour, and
we're having all these what's going on? Questions?
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Yeah, who's next? Billy, Mike, Mike, go ahead, Mike.
Speaker 10 (35:40):
Hey, guys, this is Mike from Knoxville, and uh, I
just want to say that I don't understand the last
series of the game where Chandler is taking the ball
out of bounds when he and oh, wait, are are
(36:00):
our best options for shooting a three pointer to tie
the game? Explain that to me?
Speaker 1 (36:07):
All right, appreciate it, Mike. This is way I'll explain it.
Their analytics will tell you the guy who takes the
ball out is the easiest to get the ball back.
So that's why they like, sometimes your best shooter will
take it out because he can easily get it back
when he comes in in bounds.
Speaker 12 (36:21):
But he just threw it away across across the court.
I mean, at that point it was over. But I
agree with the caller's like, what are we doing? Why
is Chandler throw it into Chandler? There's only a.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Couple all you're talking about the last play?
Speaker 12 (36:33):
Is that what he was talking about? Because I was
mad about the last play? I mean, you don't have
any really, but like, yeah, they didn't give themselves an opportunity.
They just lobbed it up to North Carolina to dribble
it out.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Totally stank correct them. He's talking about the absolute last
play then, Yeah.
Speaker 12 (36:48):
That's where my brain went. Sorry, I'm back to blogging.
You're doing great, though, Who's next?
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Who do you give the last shot to? On this team?
Is it Chandler? Is That's who got it tonight?
Speaker 1 (36:58):
No, Chandler threw it out of bound, is what the
guys what the caller was saying. Chandler threw it from
the end zone, threw it out of bounds, trying to
throw it to somebody and nobody.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Well he missed the layup, yeah, to tie the game,
and he had a good had a good look. Uh,
let's go to Steve.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
Steve, go ahead, Steve.
Speaker 8 (37:16):
Little missus Glennon Uh, Frany Franklin took a few of
my things, But I just wanted to say Mark Pope's
got twenty two million dollars roster designed to beat beat
up on what stub three hundred teams You didn't see
out rebounded offensively. They were just killing him in the paint.
And then yeah, even mar Pope does shown me are
they playing for the front of jersey or the back
(37:37):
of the jersey? And who's to say when Jaylen Clinton
comes back that he's gonna play for the front of jersey?
And then also you got low I mean, can he
still red shirt? Didn't he coach that? It was also
thirteen minutes and eight seconds without an offensive field goal?
Who was gonna be the OT lineup? And then also
(37:58):
n C double A positioning. I mean, you gotta have
quality out of conference wins. The SEC acced matchup. The
ACC is taking it, so you're not going to get
the quality wins that you need in the SEC regular season.
And then out of bounds plays. I don't know what
bark Post's doing, Steve.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
We appreciate it. You know, he's right about the NCAAA.
They have their best win is what Eastern Illinois, Loyola Maryland,
Tennessee Tech. Our resume looking too good right now.
Speaker 12 (38:30):
I don't know if any of those are in the
top I know they're in the top two hundred three.
I don't know if they're in the top two fifty.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
But we did win a tournament championship.
Speaker 12 (38:39):
Oh man, I really tried to make that a thing. Now,
that just frustrates me that I even pretended that was fun.
Speaker 7 (38:45):
Good thing.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
He didn't smoke those cigars and go through with the
whole celebration you had planned.
Speaker 12 (38:50):
Yeah, it's hard to smile about anything right now.
Speaker 10 (38:52):
It is.
Speaker 12 (38:52):
I'm heading to Nashville Friday. That's supposed to be a
fun weekend.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
All I have concerns that could be ugly if we're
not at full can't go oh and four in our
first four non conference games.
Speaker 12 (39:04):
You really start having tournament questions at that point.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Who's next?
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Billy, Jerry?
Speaker 1 (39:08):
Jerry? Go ahead, Jerry, Hey, Ryan, Ryan can hear me?
Speaker 11 (39:14):
Yeah, go ahead, Jerry, that's Jerry.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Listen.
Speaker 14 (39:17):
We need more We need more callers.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
Is this Jerry? Yes?
Speaker 1 (39:22):
Okay, go ahead, Jerry.
Speaker 14 (39:24):
We need more callers, Ryan, like Big Don than we
do bearklaw. Okay, he talking about all this. You know
we're going to be fine. I'm telling you Ryan's team,
they ain't going to the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
They're not doing it.
Speaker 14 (39:42):
This team don't have it. I mean I was there tonight.
I'm driving home to just.
Speaker 12 (39:47):
Like Big don.
Speaker 14 (39:50):
They they're not doing it.
Speaker 10 (39:51):
Two o'clock in the morning.
Speaker 14 (39:53):
Here, I am not home, gotta be at work at six,
and we go down there and watch a snooze fast.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
So what Kerry appreciate it? Man, be careful driving home,
and especially if you're going to work at six o'clock
in the morning. I mean, everybody, they got right to
be mad. You gotta right to be frustrated. You gotta
right to be upset with what we saw tonight. And there's,
like I said, there's no I don't think there's an
easy answer until those guys get healthy. Because there's good
this this squad we got right now, there is obviously
some issues and some things going on that I don't
(40:24):
know if it can be worked out without getting our
guys healthy.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
We got two on the line and like four minutes
you want to get through.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Let's do it. Let's do it real fast. Tyler, Tyler,
you got them? Sorry, you just got a minute. Go ahead, Tyler.
Speaker 8 (40:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
I was there at rupt tonight. Took my fourteen year
old son there as a birthday present. It was it
was a rough night, and I know I gotta be quick,
but this team has no offensive identity at all. I know,
we got to get healthy. But that's if these guys
get healthy. And there's a lot of if and andry.
You know, if if some boats were cherries and nuts,
we'd all have a merry Christmas. And I just feel
like this team has no offensive identity. There's more questions
(41:00):
and answers, and at the end of the day, if
these guys do get healthy, I mean, you still got
to put quality wins together. Gonzaga is coming up, and
this looks like a team that could beat us by
thirty on Friday. It's just not a lot of optimism.
So I'm hoping for, you know, hoping for something better.
But we'll see what happens in the future.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
Go get good call, Thank you, Tyler, great call, good
Win right there, We got one more. Then we're gonna
wrap it up with this one. Who we got Yeah, David, David,
Go ahead, David you're your last one.
Speaker 8 (41:23):
If you're a good one, thanks, I'm gonna you know,
I'm gonna try to be positive, even though it's hard
to be because because we've been done this before two
thousand fourteen. I'm not saying that will happen again.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
I'm just saying I'm not giving up on the season again.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Well, David, hanging there if youah, I appreciate the phone call.
Hanging there, and that's kind of going to be the
rallying cry for all fans because they could lose another
one on this weekend. Gonzaga on Friday, what's our record
right now?
Speaker 12 (41:58):
Drew games that matter?
Speaker 1 (42:01):
What are We're five and three?
Speaker 12 (42:02):
Yeah, so they oh wing three to me? Even though
those other ones were fun, that didn't that didn't do anything,
that didn't move the needle.
Speaker 1 (42:10):
And it's it's just the fact that, you know, Louisville
womped us. I'm almost cussed, and Billy said, we can't
do that. I got a quick no when I asked,
not that I would have done it.
Speaker 12 (42:20):
I was just putting there.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
There are certain words we can't say. We can't say
some words, but there's some some words I can't say.
Michigan womped us, and tonight you stump at home against
North Carolina, so that the all three of these non
conference games you played horrible and three of them, all
three of them.
Speaker 12 (42:40):
It was fun picking on the other teams. But when
you run into some some size and some physicality, I mean,
they just wilt away when the lights come on, Kentucky
goes the other direction, or at least so far.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
But Tayshawn Prince was there, Willie colley Stein was there,
well not colle Steine. Willy Stein was there.
Speaker 12 (43:00):
Wasted a good rep night. Can't lose games like that.
Erupt should never lose it up.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
Glad they hired a new football coach before this loss.
Speaker 1 (43:07):
And looks like Justin Burk's coming back to Lexington to
be on his staff.
Speaker 12 (43:10):
And my boy, Pat Beyondo was there.
Speaker 1 (43:12):
You had the scoop. Yeah, Cass Borting, Oh, he was
there at the game to night too.
Speaker 12 (43:15):
Maybe was he?
Speaker 1 (43:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 12 (43:17):
You tell me, I don't know?
Speaker 1 (43:18):
Was he? You tell me you were there? He was?
Speaker 12 (43:20):
