snapped their seven game losing streak with a two to
one win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in ten innings. Tonight,

Where are you at tonight as the Dodgers snap that
seven game losing streak and win their seventieth game of
the season. Eight six six nine eight seven two five
seventy is the phone number. I still don't know how
the Diamondbacks did not win this game after back to
back triples from Heroldo Perdomo and Corbin Carrol in the
(01:18):
ninth inning with nobody out. Carol was at third base.
He's the fastest runner in Major League Baseball, and all
Arizona needed to do was get the ball anywhere in
the outfield. He tags up and likely scores. Even with
the outfield drawn in for the Dodgers, even maybe a
(01:40):
ground ball, you know, a slow ground ball to the
right side possibly gets him in. But somehow, some way,
at that point in time, Edwin Diaz just competed his
way out of there without his slider, because that was
the issue.

Again. Tonight his his going his going back.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I'm gonna go back to even when Edwin Diaz was
pitching for the Mets and there was a game in
the last don't know, three or four years that the
Dodgers came back and walked off the Mets with Diaz
on the mound. And I remember talking to some of
the Dodger hitters that night and I said, how did
you do that against Edwin Diaz? And they told me
(02:23):
he didn't have a slider, And when he doesn't have
a slider, you could sit fastball. And tonight, last night,
and this entire season, Edwin Diaz just has not had
the feel for his slider. So the Diamondbacks, Heraldo Perdomo
and Corbyn Carroll jumped all over that back to back triples.
(02:45):
They hit it in the perfect spot here at Chase Field.
That is very much a big outfield that can lead
to triples, back to back triples.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
We haven't seen that in.

A long time. I know I haven't seen that ever.
But that was the case in the ninth inning. On
top of all that, so with the winning run ninety
feet away, Edwin Diaz had to dig down and compete.
Forget about finding the feel for his slider. He was
fortunate Gabrielle Moreno hit a line drive right at Max Munsey,

and kudos to the Dodgers positioning because there were a
lot of hard hit balls tonight that were hit right
at infielders Mookie Bets, Tommy Edmund. Max Munsey positioned perfectly
to tell Marte pops up to Mookie Bets for the
second out. Dave Roberts decides to walk now Bar intentionally,

and then Edwin Diaz strikes out Vargas on a fastball.
He did not have the slider, so even though he
blew the safe, he did not blow the game. And
I think that's the biggest thing here. This guy is
one of the best closers the last three or four years,
and to see him take it personal and didn't like
(04:02):
being embarrassed last night or tonight or this entire season.
For him to just say, you know what, I'm rearing
back and I'm going to compete, and that's exactly how
he got out of that ninth inning. The Diamondbacks, I mean,
I don't know how they're going to sleep tonight. They
left fifteen runners on base tonight. They were just two

for sixteen with runners in scoring position, And as far
as the game goes overall, the Dodger offense still still
not where it needs to be, but hopefully a win
like tonight gets it going in the right direction, because
in the eighth inning, the Dodgers should have scored more
runs after Tucker's home run. They had runners at first

and second with one out. Otani and Pahz swung at
ball four at least three times each during their at bat,
so that was a prime example of the Dodgers' quality
of at bats tonight being subpar. And if you look
at the Dodger offense, overall, this is an incredible, incredible stat.

Every single one of their hits during the last eight
games has either been a single or a home run,
nothing in between. No doubles, no triples, either a single
or a home run, including tonight. Now the Dodgers in
their last eight games thirty three singles, eight home runs.

One of the guys with the home runs was Kyle
Tucker in the eighth inning.

you know, whatever the other team gives you and just
keep keep on trucking. I mean, right there, just you know,
two outsret there, I'm on second, Fetti drawing a great
walk out there, and you know, show being able to
get that single right there was huge. So then Jack
coming in obviously at the at the end right there
and pulling it down and getting that huge double play

at the end to you know, secure the wind was
was amazing.

What was the feeling in the dugout and going through
this game?

I mean, so if we've been we've been grinding lately,
just trying to continue to keep pushing forward, keep keep
grinding through the season, just trying to put up some
competitive bats. I mean, they got a good pitching staff,
a good bullpen and everything, so it.

Can be tough at times. But you know, we just
got to.

Keep confidencing ourselves and just go try and play a
little bit better brand baseball than we have done.

beat you regardless of where they are in the standings.
And I wasn't gonna call tonight, but I was just
I was so impressed with the the game itself tonight,
you know, a pictures duel. I mean, it really felt

like a playoff game. Two triples by the other team
and the Dodgers come out on top. It was just really,
really awesome to watch such an intense game.

and he's not hitting them. But I thought Tucker really

and so does so many other This was a playoff
atmosphere because Chase Field was sold out forty six thou
two hundred and thirteen at least thirty eight thousand were
Dodger fans. And I'm not going to say games in
August or I must win, but this came as close

as it can to a must win for the Dodgers,
because you don't want that losing streak to go to
eight and you're staring at a sweep tomorrow and you
lose two Yamamoto starts in the last two weeks or
in the last week.

So that's the reason why you felt that way. Thanks

and you know Vessia with a couple of walks. We
found a way to to work his way out of
that one. You know, Kyle had a good start to
his inning and then the hit and the two walks.
But then Tanner came out and made a big pitch

to get the flyout, and so we we it wasn't pretty.
I think offensively, we just got.

You know, I think it's just hard to win games
when you know your margin for winning his Erazor's edge
and so it's not like guys aren't trying, but you know,
it's a tough way to pitch and have to be perfect.
And so yeah, DS tonight, I think for me, it's
just the intensity. I think that you saw once they

scored the run man on third base, nobody out. You
saw the intensity pick up the stuff pick up. The
fastball got better, the slider got better, and you know,
even talking to him after the game, it's, you know,
that's how we have to be from the first pitch.
But that was the first game I saw this year
where he had some real intensity. Yeah, it's it's yeah,

you know, it's great. It's hard to win a major
league baseball game. It feels good to win, and yeah,
it feels good to win a basically win.

Yes, as far as that intensity hasn't been there for him,
considering how kind of struggles have kind of happened for
Diaz this.

Year, Yeah, I mean, I don't know if it's just
kind of you know, you want to be perfect. You're
trying to, you know, get your using feet under you.
He's been in rehab mode a lot, but I think
that again, this is something I think could be a
springboard to the for audys to come.

I agree with him one hundred percent. It feels like
Edwin ds since he came off the IL, he's acting
like these are rehab outings and he's.

I felt like again tonight, Diaz was easing into the

what I was trying to explain that he competed his
way through the final three outs of that ninth inning
after being embarrassed. Again, I don't believe he wanted to
be embarrassed walking off that mound after giving up another
walk off basit and being responsible for the eighth loss.

And by the way, during that seven game losing streak
for the Dodgers that ended tonight, the Dodgers had leads
in all seven of those games, so they blew leads
at different point in times of those games during that
seven game losing streak, and tonight could have been another one,
not just in the ninth inning, but Vessia for whatever reason,

his walk rate is higher than it's ever been in
his career. Kyle Hurt gets the first two outs of
the eighth inning and then all of a sudden is
all over the place and Tanner Scott had to come
in to bail them out with the bases loaded. So
those are the things that Dave Roberts was pointing to.

the Dodgers team leaders, Miguel Rojas, who was awarded the

time with the Dodgers, and I can't think of anybody
better than to be honored with that award than Miguel Rojas.
And then in the middle of the conversation, we talked
about how the Dodgers were going to get out of
this rut they've been in, and he shared with us
the message that he sent to his teammates after last

night's loss.

I challenged the guys, I sent in a little quick
message on the group last night to start our sprint
right now. You know why not to start when he's
forty four games left, so we prepare for what is coming.
And I feel like if we put the little intensity
on every pitch and forget about the boss and forget
about what's the future is going to look like. I
think we're gonna be on the moment more and we're

gonna give everything that we have in that moment. So
I think it's important to remember those those little things
when you go in the middle of the summer and
you know, like you're approaching the end of the season
and you kind of wanted to get over there with
so you can go to October. But I mean, no
one is gonna give you anything for free, so we're
gonna have to earn it, and this is our time

to kind of start our spring. I believe we can
do it. I know we've been playing a lot of
games the last two years and this year, but if
we have an opportunity to do something really special, so
if we have it in our hands, let's do it.

We're not in it just to say, oh, no, we
won the last two, were okay, not winning this one,
or let's see what happened. No, we're in it to

Man, I love that, and I told Rojas he would
get me to run through a wall. I was excited
after hearing that. And that's what you need from your
leaders to hold the others accountable, especially a guy like

what he's done on the field, it's what he means
in the dugout, in the clubhouse and to his teammates,

and what he did in the World Series last year,
not starting a game all of a sudden, he's in
there in Game six, in Game seven, hits the World
Series saving home run. All of those things give him
a lot of credibility with his teammates to be able
to fire off a text after last night's game and say, hey, we.

We got to refocus and run through the finish line,
not just run to it as we see the light
at the end of the tunnel, being the postseason. And
I love what he said. It reaffirms everything I've believed
in this team. They are not just here to go
through the motions and see what happens in October. They
want to make history. They want to become the first

team in National League history to three pete.

They want to become one of those elite teams.

Joining the Reds, joining the A's, joining the Yankees to
three p That's who they want to be, or not
the Reds, but the A's and Yankees want to They
want to be one of those teams that has that
legacy of three peating. And they know everybody's against them,
and uh, nothing would be sweeter for them to prove

how the landing leg is a problem. His left knee

Where are you at tonight as the Dodgers snap that
seven game losing streak and win their seventieth game of
the season. Eight six six nine eight seven two five
seventy is the phone number. I still don't know how
the Diamondbacks did not win this game after back to
back triples from Heroldo Perdomo and Corbin Carrol in the
(01:18):
ninth inning with nobody out. Carol was at third base.
He's the fastest runner in Major League Baseball, and all
Arizona needed to do was get the ball anywhere in
the outfield. He tags up and likely scores. Even with
the outfield drawn in for the Dodgers, even maybe a
(01:40):
ground ball, you know, a slow ground ball to the
right side possibly gets him in. But somehow, some way,
at that point in time, Edwin Diaz just competed his
way out of there without his slider, because that was
the issue.

Again. Tonight his his going his going back.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I'm gonna go back to even when Edwin Diaz was
pitching for the Mets and there was a game in
the last don't know, three or four years that the
Dodgers came back and walked off the Mets with Diaz
on the mound. And I remember talking to some of
the Dodger hitters that night and I said, how did
you do that against Edwin Diaz? And they told me
(02:23):
he didn't have a slider, And when he doesn't have
a slider, you could sit fastball. And tonight, last night,
and this entire season, Edwin Diaz just has not had
the feel for his slider. So the Diamondbacks, Heraldo Perdomo
and Corbyn Carroll jumped all over that back to back triples.

They hit it in the perfect spot here at Chase Field.
That is very much a big outfield that can lead
to triples, back to back triples.

We haven't seen that in.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
A long time. I know I haven't seen that ever.
But that was the case in the ninth inning. On
top of all that, so with the winning run ninety
feet away, Edwin Diaz had to dig down and compete.
Forget about finding the feel for his slider. He was
fortunate Gabrielle Moreno hit a line drive right at Max Munsey,

and kudos to the Dodgers positioning because there were a
lot of hard hit balls tonight that were hit right
at infielders Mookie Bets, Tommy Edmund. Max Munsey positioned perfectly
to tell Marte pops up to Mookie Bets for the
second out. Dave Roberts decides to walk now Bar intentionally,
(03:40):
and then Edwin Diaz strikes out Vargas on a fastball.
He did not have the slider, so even though he
blew the safe, he did not blow the game. And
I think that's the biggest thing here. This guy is
one of the best closers the last three or four years,
and to see him take it personal and didn't like
(04:02):
being embarrassed last night or tonight or this entire season.
For him to just say, you know what, I'm rearing
back and I'm going to compete, and that's exactly how
he got out of that ninth inning. The Diamondbacks, I mean,
I don't know how they're going to sleep tonight. They
left fifteen runners on base tonight. They were just two
(04:24):
for sixteen with runners in scoring position, And as far
as the game goes overall, the Dodger offense still still
not where it needs to be, but hopefully a win
like tonight gets it going in the right direction, because
in the eighth inning, the Dodgers should have scored more
runs after Tucker's home run. They had runners at first
(04:46):
and second with one out. Otani and Pahz swung at
ball four at least three times each during their at bat,
so that was a prime example of the Dodgers' quality
of at bats tonight being subpar. And if you look
at the Dodger offense, overall, this is an incredible, incredible stat.
(05:12):
Every single one of their hits during the last eight
games has either been a single or a home run,
nothing in between. No doubles, no triples, either a single
or a home run, including tonight. Now the Dodgers in
their last eight games thirty three singles, eight home runs.

That's hard to do.

One of the guys with the home runs was Kyle
Tucker in the eighth inning.

We caught up with him after the game tonight.

I mean we haven't played our best brand of baseball lately,
but yeah, this long season stuff happens. You know, glad

Obviously there was some good base running, opportunistic base running.

Yeah, you just got to try and take advantage of,
you know, whatever the other team gives you and just
keep keep on trucking. I mean, right there, just you know,
two outsret there, I'm on second, Fetti drawing a great
walk out there, and you know, show being able to
get that single right there was huge. So then Jack
coming in obviously at the at the end right there
and pulling it down and getting that huge double play

at the end to you know, secure the wind was
was amazing.

What was the feeling in the dugout and going through
this game?

I mean, so if we've been we've been grinding lately,
just trying to continue to keep pushing forward, keep keep
grinding through the season, just trying to put up some
competitive bats. I mean, they got a good pitching staff,
a good bullpen and everything, so it.

Can be tough at times. But you know, we just
got to.

Keep confidencing ourselves and just go try and play a
little bit better brand baseball than we have done.

really awesome to watch such an intense game.

Dodger fans. And I'm not going to say games in
August or I must win, but this came as close

as it can to a must win for the Dodgers,
because you don't want that losing streak to go to
eight and you're staring at a sweep tomorrow and you
lose two Yamamoto starts in the last two weeks or
in the last week.

So that's the reason why you felt that way. Thanks

we got a big out there, you know with Phillips
and you know Vessia with a couple of walks. We
found a way to to work his way out of
that one. You know, Kyle had a good start to
his inning and then the hit and the two walks.
But then Tanner came out and made a big pitch

to get the flyout, and so we we it wasn't pretty.
I think offensively, we just got.

You know, I think it's just hard to win games
when you know your margin for winning his Erazor's edge
and so it's not like guys aren't trying, but you know,
it's a tough way to pitch and have to be perfect.
And so yeah, DS tonight, I think for me, it's
just the intensity. I think that you saw once they

scored the run man on third base, nobody out. You
saw the intensity pick up the stuff pick up. The
fastball got better, the slider got better, and you know,
even talking to him after the game, it's, you know,
that's how we have to be from the first pitch.
But that was the first game I saw this year
where he had some real intensity. Yeah, it's it's yeah,

you know, it's great. It's hard to win a major
league baseball game. It feels good to win, and yeah,
it feels good to win a basically win.

Yes, as far as that intensity hasn't been there for him,
considering how kind of struggles have kind of happened for
Diaz this.

Year, Yeah, I mean, I don't know if it's just
kind of you know, you want to be perfect. You're
trying to, you know, get your using feet under you.
He's been in rehab mode a lot, but I think
that again, this is something I think could be a
springboard to the for audys to come.

I agree with him one hundred percent. It feels like
Edwin ds since he came off the IL, he's acting
like these are rehab outings and he's.

way through the final three outs of that ninth inning
after being embarrassed. Again, I don't believe he wanted to
be embarrassed walking off that mound after giving up another
walk off basit and being responsible for the eighth loss.

And by the way, during that seven game losing streak
for the Dodgers that ended tonight, the Dodgers had leads
in all seven of those games, so they blew leads
at different point in times of those games during that
seven game losing streak, and tonight could have been another one,
not just in the ninth inning, but Vessia for whatever reason,

his walk rate is higher than it's ever been in
his career. Kyle Hurt gets the first two outs of
the eighth inning and then all of a sudden is
all over the place and Tanner Scott had to come
in to bail them out with the bases loaded. So
those are the things that Dave Roberts was pointing to.

And then in the middle of the conversation, we talked
about how the Dodgers were going to get out of
this rut they've been in, and he shared with us
the message that he sent to his teammates after last

night's loss.

I challenged the guys, I sent in a little quick
message on the group last night to start our sprint
right now. You know why not to start when he's
forty four games left, so we prepare for what is coming.
And I feel like if we put the little intensity
on every pitch and forget about the boss and forget
about what's the future is going to look like. I
think we're gonna be on the moment more and we're
(22:00):
gonna give everything that we have in that moment. So
I think it's important to remember those those little things
when you go in the middle of the summer and
you know, like you're approaching the end of the season
and you kind of wanted to get over there with
so you can go to October. But I mean, no
one is gonna give you anything for free, so we're
gonna have to earn it, and this is our time

to kind of start our spring. I believe we can
do it. I know we've been playing a lot of
games the last two years and this year, but if
we have an opportunity to do something really special, so
if we have it in our hands, let's do it.

You know, we're in it to win it.

We're not in it just to say, oh, no, we

Man, I love that, and I told Rojas he would
get me to run through a wall. I was excited
after hearing that. And that's what you need from your
leaders to hold the others accountable, especially a guy like
that hard and Hustle Award winner. It's not just about
what he's done on the field, it's what he means
in the dugout, in the clubhouse and to his teammates,

and what he did in the World Series last year,
not starting a game all of a sudden, he's in
there in Game six, in Game seven, hits the World
Series saving home run. All of those things give him
a lot of credibility with his teammates to be able
to fire off a text after last night's game and say, hey, we.

Got to clean it up.

We got to refocus and run through the finish line,
not just run to it as we see the light
at the end of the tunnel, being the postseason. And
I love what he said. It reaffirms everything I've believed
in this team. They are not just here to go
through the motions and see what happens in October. They
want to make history. They want to become the first

team in National League history to three pete.

They want to become one of those elite teams.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Joining the Reds, joining the A's, joining the Yankees to
three p That's who they want to be, or not
the Reds, but the A's and Yankees want to They
want to be one of those teams that has that
legacy of three peating. And they know everybody's against them,
and uh, nothing would be sweeter for them to prove

a lot of people wrong. Let's go out to Downey, Rob,

I think that proves to you and everybody else this

back up, and I firmly believe that he does want

Lars now Bar, teammates with Team Japan. We're having a
common in center field, and I'm a pretty good rip
lip reader. I'm not John Boy, but I'm a good
lip reader. And he was saying as Lars Newpar was
asking him how the pitching was going, he basically was saying,
we'll see how it goes, and then he was motioning
how the landing leg is a problem. His left knee

was a problem. So even him in that candid moment
with Lars Newbar didn't seem very sure that the left
knee was going to cooperate moving forward.

So it stinks for Otani.

He can't even have a conversation with Lars Newbar in

game losing streak in Chicago, I had a chance to

trade deadline. He got his revenge. She almost hit me

rather be here than on my couch in October, So

that the Dodgers probably leaned towards. Hey, this guy wants
to be here, he accepts his role. Let's keep him,
Let's keep lower. Lower has accepted either starting or going
to the bullpen when Snell and Glass now get healthy.
So both those guys, they're all in. And you need
those type of guys, those complimentary players to understand their

role and how they fit with a championship team. So
