One of the most incredible moments, the alley oop to
Shack as they would go on to win the NBA
Finals in seven games. It was absolutely incredible. It was
electric and truly. Of course, they would then go on
to win the NBA title over Indiana. So there's that one.

and one, they ran rough shot through the postseason, nearly
swept everyone. They lost that first game to Philadelphia in
the Finals, but ended up going with just a single
loss to win their title. The following year, they were
staring at nearly down three to one to the Kings
and having to go up to Arco Arena, and we

know what that atmosphere was like back in the day. Now,
it wasn't like the Beam level excitement, but it was
still pretty crazy. Few are pretty crazy in there with
all of the cow bells, and certainly not a situation
they wanted to face having to go up there and
try to win three straight starting with that one. So
in the final moments of that game. In two thousand

and two, game four of the two thousand and two
Western Conference Finals against the Kings. You got, of course,
your two superstars Shaq and Kobe, and it was not them.
Kobe missed a two point jumper, Shakiel missed a two
point layup, and big shot Bob had to come to
the rest of the two.

the Lakers already won two titles at that point, so

of course you think they're gonna win everything. But it's
especially in that Portland game, you just feel like it's
come to an end. You're like, I cannot believe this
is how it's going. In I think that Madison Square
Garden they had to feel that way. It's like, you
win two games on the road, it feels like fata comple,
you lose this game and the Spurs are going to
be favored now to win the title the two games

at home. Young team maybe figured it out, certainly on paper,
look to be a better roster than the Knicks, and
you feel like, ultimately, well, talent's going to end up
winning out in the end. And that's what we're witnessing here.
So you're kind of lamenting what was great excitement at
one moment and is now turned into acceptance that this
isn't going to play out how you want. And then
(30:39):
when you have these historic comebacks and you have this
collective energy, it really becomes as cool as anything that
you can be part of as again a group, as
a collective because you're all in there, nineteen thousand at
Staples Center, sharing.

Training to the opponent, even though they're professionals, you know,
I mean, I remember it happened to the Clippers against Houston.
Remember that the Doc Rivers. Yeah, and they blew it
and the most smith right mo was that his name?

I mean, they just they only made eight baskets in
the second half. The Spurs and they were jacking up
three pointers early in the shot clock, and it makes
you wonder. You know, Mitch Johnson, the Spurs coach, is young,

mean I think that I think they had a lead.
The Spurs have had a lead in the final two

minutes of all four games and they're down to one.
That's amazing.

Yeah, that's that's coaching execution. And that's kind of maybe
where they point out, you know, young team, got to
take your lungs, not their time kind of thing. But yeah,
the the thing about the the thing about you met
how to shoot? Where was I the the energy? Oh yeah,

that you were talking about. You almost feel like you
said you will the other team feels it as your team,
as the team you're cheering for. The home team feels
it to rally them. I was looking at the number,
what is it, eighty four? They scored eleven points in
the fourth quarter. Portland did eleven points in the fourth quarter.

And that's what we heard about the Spurs yesterday, right,
they scored thirty points in the second half. Like somehow
these teams that are red hot, that have all this
momentum it starts coming away and unraveling, and it's like
there's nothing they can do to get on track, and
it just seems inevitable. In basketball is like the one
sport where that feels like, what's the same, everybody makes

a run that it's more likely than anywhere else. It's
just very hard to maintain that lead. But those two
condo mind. Unfortunately, I hate to do it, but two
thousand and eight Lakers, you know, lose in Boston, come home,
win Game three. They are up twenty two, I believe
at one first half. They're up twenty in the second half,
(33:03):
seventy to fifty at the sixth minute mark of the
third quarter. Before the celt they were up seventy to
fifty at the six minute mark. They would score three
points until the nine to thirty mark of the fourth quarter.
That is the drought they went on, and the Celtics
were able to overcome a twenty point second half deficits.

And this crowd's so disappointed. In a game that started great.

La the Celtics turned in one of the great comebacks
in the NBA playoff history. Down twenty four in the
second quarter, down twenty then the third they come back
and win Game four.

The team had that game had exactly one lead change,
that's it. When the Celtics took the lead, it was like, yep,
that's over. And they went on to win that game
by six points, ninety seven to ninety one. And I
play that one because it is sort of reminiscent of
as the Lakers were up twenty. It's like, holy crap,

they're gonna end up. They're gonna pull this thing off, Like, yeah,
that first game was weird, the Paul Pierce wheelchair thing,
and now they've got this figured out. Win Game three, blowout,
Game four, all the momentum going back to Boston. Can
you win this thing and get four in a row
to get that first title? Post three Peete, And after
that it was dead man walking. That team got to

Boston and it was like, there is no chance this
thing's going back. It just felt like it felt like
absolute that I should say that's not right, I've got
it wrong. They had and that was a two, three
to two. So they ended up winning Game five, so
scratch all that. I just said, what a terrible job
by me. But it was a dejected atmosphere I was there.

It was a dejected atmosphere. It felt like it was
over walking out of that building. But credit the Lakers
for rallying and saying no, it's not over yet. But
then they got absolutely blown out in game six by
like thirty five points.

And that was the gatorade bath on Doc Rivers on
the court. Yeah, was that better or worse than Taylor
Swift and the Haham sisters.

noticed intended to study at Stanford and mit but ended
up in West Point because of the war. Graduated West
Point in nineteen forty five and started flying combat missions
as a career Air Force fighter pilot during the Korean War.

a house while he was training, so that kind of
slowed his prayer.

But he served for twelve years, flew over one hundred missions,

nineteen fifty six under the pseudonym because he was still
a military pilot at the time. The book was huge
and they made a movie out of it, Matt two
years later, just two years later, a very very popular
movie starring our friend Bob Mitchell. Salter kept writing after
that and after his retirement from the Air Force. He

is a beloved writer. He's beloved as a writer's writer.
They say a great marriage and style between the fourthwith
straightforward approach of Ernest Hemingway and the lush description of f.
Scott Fitzgerald. How about that? But also very structure. He

wrote after the war documentary scripts at first, and then
movie scripts and then modern American fiction. Nineteen sixty seven's
sexual European affair novel, A Sport and a Pastime is
a huge example of his writing mastery. Apparently seven novels,

numerous short stories, and a memoir where he celebrates his
numerous adulterous affairs. Well gotta have something, right, he yeah?
I mean, well, what do I have as affairs? He
shot down to Meg too right. He also wrote a
few movies, including Bob Redford and Gene Hackman's Downhill Racer

in nineteen sixty nine. Some say he had a good
claim at being one of America's greatest novelists of the
twentieth century, which is pretty impressive. He worked at Uva
Mary twice and a pretty big deal, they say, James Salter, all.

please no chops, even though she was a guitarist, she
answered it. She borrowed her sister's bass and because she

idea for Black Francis to bring on Dave Lovering on drums,

and of course the rest is history. She sang backup,
she played bass, formed a killer rhythm section with Levering,
sang lead on Gigantic, which she co wrote Do a
Little Things. Started getting sideways with Old Frank Black. They
put out three releases in two years. Frank was a ballbuster,
toured relentlessly, no days off, so at the end of
the f or Fight tour they called it. She toured

Europe with Tanya Donnelly and they got close, so she
reached out and said, you want to do a side project.
The Breeders were Born and named it that because it
was the name of her and Kelly Spand when they
were kids. First album, Pod Well received by critics. Kirk
Cobank called it his favorite album of the year. Steve
Elbinie produced it, but not a big commercial hit. Pixies

Get Back Together put out a couple more records, but
Deal said it was miserable, so they broke up again.
In ninety one, her sister Kelly replaced Donnelly on Last
Splash for the Breeders, and that was a huge hit,
Cannonball of course, number one at Alt Rock, number one
video on MTV Mainstage, Lollapalooza. Unfortunately, her sister Kelly was
into Heroin. Oh yeah, I had to go to rehab.

So the Breeders fizzled out. She did some solo, she
did the Amps, and then in two thousand and four,
Pixies got back Together, did Coachella, did Lallapalooza, a bunch
of UK festivals, and then the Breeders got back together
and they will play the Palladium p on August twenty fourth,
So some tickets still available for that one. I think
I'm going to take pressing out, so yeah, go check

about it today from Texas. One of our Texas streamers
on the iHeartRadio app. San Antonio has been overcome with
a viral song recorded by a prostitute and a criminal
named her name P Money, real name Phyllis Sentiva Ohowa.

She is currently serving at least a decade. Yeah she is.
She's serving a decade in prison for terrible things, including
sex trafficking of a minor because she's as a toot
and was moving other toots around for some pimp. But
in twenty fifteen she was on the run from the
police and she recorded this great san Antonio tune. We

the world, Madison Square Garden. Not a single person, it
felt like, left. Everybody stayed to witness this NBA Finals

the Knicks ahead, a lead that would ultimately hold up.

I saw Charles Smith miss nine layups in nineteen ninety

three things got me thinking. Three incredible comebacks. Two the
Lakers were on the right side of them. One they
were not selfishly. I was doing these three because I

was in the building for all three. I got my
Lakers season tickets in ninety five. I had them through
two thousand and two as a fan and then as
an employe of the Lakers. I was in the building
in two thousand and eight to be on the wrong
side of one of the most I think, prior to
the comeback last night, that was the largest lead a

team had on an opponent and went on to lose
a game in the NBA Finals. I think the Lakers
are up twenty two or twenty four on the Celtics
in Game four of two thousand and eight when it
got away, but I will go in chronological order, of course,
one of the most iconic moments in the history of
Lakers basketball. After getting booted out of the playoffs back

to back seasons by Utah, the Lakers advance to the
conference Finals. They are taken on a Portland team Game
seven at home at Brand spankin New Staples Center, and
they find themselves down fifteen seventy three to fifty eight
at the start of the fourth quarter. Fourth quarter opens
up with Steve Smith drilling a two point shot to

build that lead to fifteen, and again the Lakers had
just fifty eight points through three quarters as they started
to chip away, basically behind Kobe and Shack nearly the
whole way, but some big threes from Robert ri and
Brian Shaw, and next thing you know, we find ourselves

toward the end they are trailing and one of the
most iconic moments in Laker history.

Three timeouts love the Lakers have two.

One of the most incredible moments, the alley oop to
Shack as they would go on to win the NBA
Finals in seven games. It was absolutely incredible. It was
electric and truly. Of course, they would then go on
to win the NBA title over Indiana. So there's that one.

Two thousand and two it is Lakers. Remember two thousand
and one, they ran rough shot through the postseason, nearly
swept everyone. They lost that first game to Philadelphia in
the Finals, but ended up going with just a single
loss to win their title. The following year, they were
staring at nearly down three to one to the Kings
and having to go up to Arco Arena, and we

know what that atmosphere was like back in the day. Now,
it wasn't like the Beam level excitement, but it was
still pretty crazy. Few are pretty crazy in there with
all of the cow bells, and certainly not a situation
they wanted to face having to go up there and
try to win three straight starting with that one. So
in the final moments of that game. In two thousand

and two, game four of the two thousand and two
Western Conference Finals against the Kings. You got, of course,
your two superstars Shaq and Kobe, and it was not them.
Kobe missed a two point jumper, Shakiel missed a two
point layup, and big shot Bob had to come to
the rest of the two.

And the thing that both of those that I remember
most about both of those games being in that building
and getting to experience that atmosphere is there is something
about a crowd that expects its team to win. It's
at home, you can feel like this is your year. Obviously,
the Lakers already won two titles at that point, so

of course you think they're gonna win everything. But it's
especially in that Portland game, you just feel like it's
come to an end. You're like, I cannot believe this
is how it's going. In I think that Madison Square
Garden they had to feel that way. It's like, you
win two games on the road, it feels like fata comple,
you lose this game and the Spurs are going to
be favored now to win the title the two games

at home. Young team maybe figured it out, certainly on paper,
look to be a better roster than the Knicks, and
you feel like, ultimately, well, talent's going to end up
winning out in the end. And that's what we're witnessing here.
So you're kind of lamenting what was great excitement at
one moment and is now turned into acceptance that this
isn't going to play out how you want. And then
(30:39):
when you have these historic comebacks and you have this
collective energy, it really becomes as cool as anything that
you can be part of as again a group, as
a collective because you're all in there, nineteen thousand at
Staples Center, sharing.

Training to the opponent, even though they're professionals, you know,
I mean, I remember it happened to the Clippers against Houston.
Remember that the Doc Rivers. Yeah, and they blew it
and the most smith right mo was that his name?

I mean, they just they only made eight baskets in
the second half. The Spurs and they were jacking up
three pointers early in the shot clock, and it makes
you wonder. You know, Mitch Johnson, the Spurs coach, is young,
but he must also be dumb, because I mean, I
mean I think that I think they had a lead.
The Spurs have had a lead in the final two

minutes of all four games and they're down to one.
That's amazing.

Yeah, that's that's coaching execution. And that's kind of maybe
where they point out, you know, young team, got to
take your lungs, not their time kind of thing. But yeah,
the the thing about the the thing about you met
how to shoot? Where was I the the energy? Oh yeah,

that you were talking about. You almost feel like you
said you will the other team feels it as your team,
as the team you're cheering for. The home team feels
it to rally them. I was looking at the number,
what is it, eighty four? They scored eleven points in
the fourth quarter. Portland did eleven points in the fourth quarter.

And that's what we heard about the Spurs yesterday, right,
they scored thirty points in the second half. Like somehow
these teams that are red hot, that have all this
momentum it starts coming away and unraveling, and it's like
there's nothing they can do to get on track, and
it just seems inevitable. In basketball is like the one
sport where that feels like, what's the same, everybody makes
(32:39):
a run that it's more likely than anywhere else. It's
just very hard to maintain that lead. But those two
condo mind. Unfortunately, I hate to do it, but two
thousand and eight Lakers, you know, lose in Boston, come home,
win Game three. They are up twenty two, I believe
at one first half. They're up twenty in the second half,
(33:03):
seventy to fifty at the sixth minute mark of the
third quarter. Before the celt they were up seventy to
fifty at the six minute mark. They would score three
points until the nine to thirty mark of the fourth quarter.
That is the drought they went on, and the Celtics
were able to overcome a twenty point second half deficits.

And this crowd's so disappointed. In a game that started great.
Speaker 9 (33:31):
La the Celtics turned in one of the great comebacks
in the NBA playoff history. Down twenty four in the
second quarter, down twenty then the third they come back
and win Game four.

The team had that game had exactly one lead change,
that's it. When the Celtics took the lead, it was like, yep,
that's over. And they went on to win that game
by six points, ninety seven to ninety one. And I
play that one because it is sort of reminiscent of
as the Lakers were up twenty. It's like, holy crap,

they're gonna end up. They're gonna pull this thing off, Like, yeah,
that first game was weird, the Paul Pierce wheelchair thing,
and now they've got this figured out. Win Game three, blowout,
Game four, all the momentum going back to Boston. Can
you win this thing and get four in a row
to get that first title? Post three Peete, And after
that it was dead man walking. That team got to

Boston and it was like, there is no chance this
thing's going back. It just felt like it felt like
absolute that I should say that's not right, I've got
it wrong. They had and that was a two, three
to two. So they ended up winning Game five, so
scratch all that. I just said, what a terrible job
by me. But it was a dejected atmosphere I was there.

It was a dejected atmosphere. It felt like it was
over walking out of that building. But credit the Lakers
for rallying and saying no, it's not over yet. But
then they got absolutely blown out in game six by
like thirty five points.

And that was the gatorade bath on Doc Rivers on
the court. Yeah, was that better or worse than Taylor
Swift and the Haham sisters.

up in West Point because of the war. Graduated West
Point in nineteen forty five and started flying combat missions
as a career Air Force fighter pilot during the Korean War.

a house while he was training, so that kind of
slowed his prayer.

is a beloved writer. He's beloved as a writer's writer.
They say a great marriage and style between the fourthwith
straightforward approach of Ernest Hemingway and the lush description of f.
Scott Fitzgerald. How about that? But also very structure. He

wrote after the war documentary scripts at first, and then
movie scripts and then modern American fiction. Nineteen sixty seven's
sexual European affair novel, A Sport and a Pastime is
a huge example of his writing mastery. Apparently seven novels,

numerous short stories, and a memoir where he celebrates his
numerous adulterous affairs. Well gotta have something, right, he yeah?
I mean, well, what do I have as affairs? He

few movies, including Bob Redford and Gene Hackman's Downhill Racer

claim at being one of America's greatest novelists of the

and of course the rest is history. She sang backup,
she played bass, formed a killer rhythm section with Levering,
sang lead on Gigantic, which she co wrote Do a
Little Things. Started getting sideways with Old Frank Black. They
put out three releases in two years. Frank was a ballbuster,
toured relentlessly, no days off, so at the end of
the f or Fight tour they called it. She toured

Europe with Tanya Donnelly and they got close, so she
reached out and said, you want to do a side project.
The Breeders were Born and named it that because it
was the name of her and Kelly Spand when they
were kids. First album, Pod Well received by critics. Kirk
Cobank called it his favorite album of the year. Steve
Elbinie produced it, but not a big commercial hit. Pixies

Get Back Together put out a couple more records, but
Deal said it was miserable, so they broke up again.
In ninety one, her sister Kelly replaced Donnelly on Last
Splash for the Breeders, and that was a huge hit,
Cannonball of course, number one at Alt Rock, number one
video on MTV Mainstage, Lollapalooza. Unfortunately, her sister Kelly was
into Heroin. Oh yeah, I had to go to rehab.

So the Breeders fizzled out. She did some solo, she
did the Amps, and then in two thousand and four,
Pixies got back Together, did Coachella, did Lallapalooza, a bunch
of UK festivals, and then the Breeders got back together
and they will play the Palladium p on August twenty fourth,
So some tickets still available for that one. I think
I'm going to take pressing out, so yeah, go check

them out. Breeders are great. Uh No, Breeders play in
