I mean, it doesn't to me. It never gets better
than when the Dodgers beat the.

Yeah, although I would say this, I don't think that
there's a a hatred like Lakers Celtics.

I've never gotten that vibe.

is to where there was a threat there.

to win these games, and we know about the World
Series and and and you know, a couple of years
ago on all the matchups back in the day. I
just I don't get the vibe that there's this hatred

towards the Yankees, because I don't know that you look
at this Yankees team, Aaron Judge is not a hated guy,
Like I don't know a lot of people that would
hate him.

I agree with that. And Aaron Moon, by the way,
one of the great guys, oh yeah, I mean really really.

Good and one of the old school guys who is
willing to wear an umpire out like like.

later a Dodger team that Howard Cosell said they're not
as good as any player man for man on, you know,
the whole thing, and the Dodgers coming back to win

that World Series in nineteen eighty one with the rookie
sensation Fernando Bevenezuela. I mean, that was just a great time.
And there was such a rivalry during that span of
time with Garvey Loops, Russell say, and Fernando and you know,
all the Dodgers of that period. So part of it
is that, and that's why it just doesn't go away,
you know, it doesn't.

don't recall that the Giants for really the big stumbling

Series literally every other year. That's that doesn't make any

which are awful. But I just think that there's there
are gaps in time where one team is doing something

and and you sort of take turns and the Dodgers
have been at such a level that I don't know
that they necessarily have a real rival like they would
have back in the day, because I think that the
gap has widened so much between them and everybody else
that yeah, it's a Yankee.

But was that World Series really that close? I mean,
if we're being honest, like, was it really that close?

Well, I mean the meltdown by the Yankees and the
final game was legendary.

But even that the US win that game? Man, Yeah,
I don't. I mean, what was that game five?

Okay, I mean, so what you get to a game six?
I just I didn't see that.

That's the way I'm asking is, is I mean when
I don't know how many people listening out there, if
you're and we know you're Dodger fans obviously, I mean,
so right now, is that the podres I mean I'm
talking about if you're the Dodgers, or even because the
Dodgers obviously you look at the standis right now in
the NL West. I mean they're they're lap in the field.

They have no right. There's not. There's teams that are annoying.

The Padres are annoying, The Diamondbacks are annoying, Like the
Diamondbacks are just that that's kind of an annoying team
where you're like, oh god, this, They're gonna make it
tough on them. And there's no reason why the Giants
have fallen so far back that I don't and we
know about the Rockies. I just think if you look
just inside your own division, there's not the same traditional

rival that you would have, which is why the gap
has widened this year. And I was making this point
earlier and filling in on the show a couple weeks
back to where the threats inside. It used to be, man,
who's going to come out of the West, and you had,
you know, the Diamondbacks, and maybe the Giants and the
Padres were a threat. And now it's other teams in
the NL. Now it's Milwaukee, now it's Atlanta. Now it's

other teams that you've got to worry about. And still
I just don't know that anybody looks at any of
those other teams and says that's going to be a problem.
The Phillies, that's going to be a problem, And I
do think the Phillies present a problem. I think the
look last year in the playoffs, the Phillies were a
problem and it was an air that led to that.

From the very beginning when I got into this industry,
I can never cease being a fan, you know. To me,
and this is no knock on those people that want
to label themselves as sports journalists, but to me, sports
journalists is an oxymoron. I mean, if you want to
be a journalist, you're not going to be the reason
you're in sports because you're a sports fan, correct, And

part of the beauty of being a fan is hating
on somebody else, Right, You love your teams, but you
also have to hate wyvalries to me is what makes sports.
This is why I get so upset about the changing
landscape in college football, is that they're eliminating rivalries.

The idea that us He's.

Not playing Notre Dame is just outrageous to me, It's
absolutely outrageous. I get it because, well, the current USC
coach can't beat Notre Dame, So I understand why you
want to race on Steve.

Now it's Notre Dame fault. Yeah, okay, whatever.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
I don't think Notre Dame really cares and they've benefited obviously,
But that that's the thing that gets to me. And
people can make the argument, well, we'll make will make
new rivalries, new traditions and everything else.

I mean, maybe I'm showing my age on this one,
but to me, the idea of being a fan is
as much, not as much as it is loving the
teams that you root for.

I mean that deep rooted love.

I know Dodger fans have their team, but hating on
the Padres, on the Giants, hating on the Yankees, hating
on these rival teams, to me is part of being
a fan.

When the Diamondbacks went to the World Series a couple
of years ago, like Dodger fans were rooting against them.

Of course, yeah, look at like that's it, And I
get all that.

I'm just saying anybody in the vicinity of being a
rival with the Dodgers, I just don't think anybody looks
at them as a legitimate threat anymore.

What's happened with the Padres, and you know this from
being down there. What's happened with that team. I can
remember going to a Padres game and looking up at
the score, but I was sitting with my brother and
being at Peco and Peco for whatever you want to
say about beautiful ballpark, like really well done. I remember
looking up at this at the lineup and being like, wait,
they've got Tatiss and Bogarts and they've got Juan Soto

and they've got him and him.

Why are they bad?

Its just it didn't like I couldn't. I couldn't.

recent Inner Division real threat to where you hated them.

it the fans on that Sunday night game where you
know they were hitting.

Bombs at Dodger Stadium.

I just think that they've separated themselves from those other
teams to where if you go.

Back to that series two years ago against the Podres,
Podres are up two games to one, they got Game
four at home. They were celebrating, they're ready, they were
ready to blow the doors over and the Dodgers bullpenned
them and shut them out that day, and the Podres
have never recovered. And that's right because that was the
end of the part because it was a bullpen game,
and so there was concern, like, man, what is Dave

Roberts doing, Like you're going bullpen? They were loaded up
and ready to part party, and they would have beaten
the Dodgers for a second time in the playoffs.

But right as they sit here right now, I agree
the way that seems that isn't that long ago. Doesn't
that seem like it's a decade ago?

you say, the Padres have faded away.

So I don't know to me as we get ready
for this weekend series at Yankee stad have.

I mean it's still in the Bronx, you know, I

to start off the second half of the season, right,
I think that it's this is all about, hey, let's

far away. Let's ramp up. And if you're gonna do so,

you're gonna do it against a team that does have
a resume that you've got some passed with, but a
team that has also been off and on lately. I
mean they went through a really bad stretch to the
Yankees and the Aaron Judge injury and whatnot. So this
does feel like if you were going to pick a
team from the al A Marquee setup spotlight game.

Throughout the course of the weekend, hard to beat the ankles, all.

Right, and look the Blue Jays obviously were two outs away,
two outs away, you know, Mickey Rojas.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
I will say this, I've always said this. I was
at the Kirk Gibson game.

I was literally at the game, sitting in seats when
Kirk Gibson hit that home run. The biggest home run
in Dodger Sister is Magi Ross. There's no doubt about it.
I mean, you're you're two outs away from losey he
ties it. I mean, and it was just out of nowhere.
Joe Davis had the greatest call when he said no way.

Yeah, I mean no way. It was a perfect call
on that.

Although I would say, and we're thinking back to that game,
and I was actually thinking about this recently when Munsey
hit the bomb. Yeah, there were opportunities for Toronto to
tack on runs during the course of that game and
they just couldn't do it. And I remember watching the
game with my wife and son and being like, this
isn't trending good for Toronto, Like you just there there

was this weird vibe. And even in saying all that,
a lot of amazing things had to happen.

So you're sitting there two outs away, Miguel Rojas is
going against their bullpen ace.

Just it just seemed it just seemed a little suspect,

just a vibe in the air.

if assume the Dodgers will be back in their third
consecutive World Series, if you could choose a team to
face in the World Series just from a marquee value,
isn't it the Yankees?

How about the Red Sox making up for what happened
in twenty eighteen? Wait a second, how about the Astros.
By the way the Red Sox are playing well, they've
been on a little bit of a heater.

I think if they won nine in a row or
something like, Yeah, so the Red Sox had played well,
the Astros would be great, Like there's obviously, I mean,
I think it.

Would be the Astros right to beat there. Yeah, if
you wanted to write the Raids out and really.

Bookend this decade, because it's hard to bely by the
way that it's been a decade, seventeen. So if you
wanted to bookend the decade with something like that, that
would make some sense.

Value, the name brand team in the AL, and the
AL has been way down this year, by the way,
the Power is really out of the National League. But
if you were to the White Sox are in first place. Yes,
that is Dan Wiki's White Sox. It's a malle I mean,
he can't stop talking about the White Sox. But yeah,
I would say the Yankees are the team. And who knows,
maybe the way this thing shapes up and you know

they're both going to be active at the deadline, maybe

We got to ask you just you know, because we're
going to get into the whole Lebron circus that is

got to ask you MLB All Star Game. There were
some people that I've seen that have been concerned about
the future because of the opt outs and whatnot, And
my stance on it is I'm less concerned about people
opting out of the All Star Game from the simple

standpoint of it's the most replicated, the best sport and
sporting event to replicate, as opposed to the NBA or
the NFL. Even if the second or third best All
Stars are taking the field, it still looks like an
actual baseball game with all the bells and whistles.

There's no game better as far as an All Star game.

And yes, this game got off to a bang and
then it was nothing. The pitching overtook it. It was
a shame that shoe Hey didn't show up. I thought
that was weak on his part from the standpoint that
he played the weeknd before, right.

The whole weekend as DH. He should have come to Philadelphia, got.

One at bat and then called it a night. All
the people in Japan were disappointed him, and knowing that
Aaron Judge has been out for the last two months,
six weeks.

should have been there for baseball, and I.

back to back All Star games because you didn't want

out the whole weekend, then I buy him not playing.

fans and the fans standpoint, they want an opportunity to

To me, there's no guarantees when you buy a ticket
that you're going to get every star that's going to play, Like,
there's no guarantees that that's how this is gonna work.
I do think with the All Star Game, there are
ways around and maybe you don't get to see him
taking it back. Maybe you don't get to see you know,
him go out there and take the field or pitch
an inning or a third of the inning, whatever it is.

But maybe you give it an opportunity.

You set up an autograph stand, get people a chance
to go get a picture with him. I don't think
it's that big of a deal that he didn't go
out and participate, like he screwed the fans over. If

all free. And go to Rogers Stadium, Angels Stadium. It
didn't matter. It was all free.

couple hoodie that they could take home with their family.

I've been out there a couple of times, just coincidentally
Summer League was going on, and so one time it
was you know, Buddy's bachelor party. But of course, you
know how we work, Steve. Of course I still worked
my Saturday show. I went to the Elliot in Vegas
and all that stuff I had absolute and then last
year was out you know, covering the pack out Bite
as well too, And so I've been out there kind

of in the vicinity of Summer League when it goes on.
I was shocked at how many people came out for it.
It's unbelievable shocked.

What do we watch it? I don't know.

I mean when, honestly, when Garrett starts talking to me,
which is daily, about like things that are happening, specific
things that are happening in the Summer League games, I'm like, dude, stop,
I can't okay, I know your dad's a little psycho,
but you're taking this to a whole different level.

It's stinking summer lea and I and I could get
it if it was hey man, while we're out there,
let's go check out a Summer League game. I get
it just watching some masks. Totally get it. And that look,
you've seen that happen in the World Cup to see
some of the rookies and stuff, and that's fun.

And you've seen it happen in the World Cup to
where some of these people that come from out of
the country will come out here and next thing you know,
they're a Red Sox game or they're in a Mets game.
Are there and so all of that I totally understand.
But it's literally the reason that people go to Vegas
in July. You've got pools, you've got ass walking around everywhere,

you've got casinos, you got fights, you've got and they're
going for Summer League games.

And I was shocked. I couldn't believe it.

Like it's a really big draw, the Lakers being maybe
the biggest draw to where it's not that far of
a hike. I mean, you hop on, you get on
the bird at Burbank and you're there in forty five
to fifty minutes and you're ready to go. I could
not believe spring training. I get spring training is a
destination for people on the East Coast. They want to
come out and get away from from the cold weather

they've been dealing with here. You know, obviously you go
out and it's a big to do, but you're following
this team. You have a sense for the minor leaguers.
You kind of know who's the next big thing. I
get spring training. I don't get the summer league affair
like I don't. And people love it man Like I was.

ago on all the matchups back in the day. I
just I don't get the vibe that there's this hatred

towards the Yankees, because I don't know that you look
at this Yankees team, Aaron Judge is not a hated guy,
Like I don't know a lot of people that would
hate him.

the whole thing, and the Dodgers coming back to win

that World Series in nineteen eighty one with the rookie
sensation Fernando Bevenezuela. I mean, that was just a great time.
And there was such a rivalry during that span of
time with Garvey Loops, Russell say, and Fernando and you know,
all the Dodgers of that period. So part of it
is that, and that's why it just doesn't go away,
you know, it doesn't.

are gaps in time where one team is doing something

and and you sort of take turns and the Dodgers
have been at such a level that I don't know
that they necessarily have a real rival like they would
have back in the day, because I think that the
gap has widened so much between them and everybody else
that yeah, it's a Yankee.

Well, I mean the meltdown by the Yankees and the
final game was legendary.

talking about if you're the Dodgers, or even because the
Dodgers obviously you look at the standis right now in
the NL West. I mean they're they're lap in the field.

They have no right. There's not. There's teams that are annoying.

tough on them. And there's no reason why the Giants
have fallen so far back that I don't and we
know about the Rockies. I just think if you look
just inside your own division, there's not the same traditional

rival that you would have, which is why the gap
has widened this year. And I was making this point
earlier and filling in on the show a couple weeks
back to where the threats inside. It used to be, man,
who's going to come out of the West, and you had,
you know, the Diamondbacks, and maybe the Giants and the
Padres were a threat. And now it's other teams in
the NL. Now it's Milwaukee, now it's Atlanta. Now it's

other teams that you've got to worry about. And still
I just don't know that anybody looks at any of
those other teams and says that's going to be a problem.
The Phillies, that's going to be a problem, And I
do think the Phillies present a problem. I think the
look last year in the playoffs, the Phillies were a
problem and it was an air that led to that.

From the very beginning when I got into this industry,
I can never cease being a fan, you know. To me,
and this is no knock on those people that want
to label themselves as sports journalists, but to me, sports
journalists is an oxymoron. I mean, if you want to
be a journalist, you're not going to be the reason
you're in sports because you're a sports fan, correct, And

part of the beauty of being a fan is hating
on somebody else, Right, You love your teams, but you
also have to hate wyvalries to me is what makes sports.
This is why I get so upset about the changing
landscape in college football, is that they're eliminating rivalries.

Not playing Notre Dame is just outrageous to me, It's
absolutely outrageous. I get it because, well, the current USC
coach can't beat Notre Dame, So I understand why you
want to race on Steve.

I don't think Notre Dame really cares and they've benefited obviously,
But that that's the thing that gets to me. And

but to me, the idea of being a fan is
as much, not as much as it is loving the

on these rival teams, to me is part of being

being down there. What's happened with that team. I can
remember going to a Padres game and looking up at
the score, but I was sitting with my brother and

looking up at this at the lineup and being like, wait,
they've got Tatiss and Bogarts and they've got Juan Soto

and they've got him and him.

Why are they bad?

Its just it didn't like I couldn't. I couldn't.

It couldn't compute in my mind, like why is this
team bad when they're that loaded? That was the most
recent Inner Division real threat to where you hated them.
Fernando tattists, you know, sticking his tongue out and wagging
it the fans on that Sunday night game where you
know they were hitting.

Bombs at Dodger Stadium.

I just think that they've separated themselves from those other
teams to where if you go.

Back to that series two years ago against the Podres,
Podres are up two games to one, they got Game
four at home. They were celebrating, they're ready, they were
ready to blow the doors over and the Dodgers bullpenned
them and shut them out that day, and the Podres
have never recovered. And that's right because that was the
end of the part because it was a bullpen game,
and so there was concern, like, man, what is Dave

Roberts doing, Like you're going bullpen? They were loaded up
and ready to part party, and they would have beaten
the Dodgers for a second time in the playoffs.

But right as they sit here right now, I agree
the way that seems that isn't that long ago. Doesn't
that seem like it's a decade ago?

a resume that you've got some passed with, but a
team that has also been off and on lately. I
mean they went through a really bad stretch to the
Yankees and the Aaron Judge injury and whatnot. So this
does feel like if you were going to pick a
team from the al A Marquee setup spotlight game.

Throughout the course of the weekend, hard to beat the ankles, all.

Right, and look the Blue Jays obviously were two outs away,
two outs away, you know, Mickey Rojas.

I will say this, I've always said this. I was
at the Kirk Gibson game.

I was literally at the game, sitting in seats when
Kirk Gibson hit that home run. The biggest home run
in Dodger Sister is Magi Ross. There's no doubt about it.

ties it. I mean, and it was just out of nowhere.
Joe Davis had the greatest call when he said no way.

isn't trending good for Toronto, Like you just there there

was this weird vibe. And even in saying all that,
a lot of amazing things had to happen.

opting out of the All Star Game from the simple

standpoint of it's the most replicated, the best sport and
sporting event to replicate, as opposed to the NBA or
the NFL. Even if the second or third best All
Stars are taking the field, it still looks like an
actual baseball game with all the bells and whistles.

There's no game better as far as an All Star game.

And yes, this game got off to a bang and
then it was nothing. The pitching overtook it. It was

The whole weekend as DH. He should have come to Philadelphia, got.

One at bat and then called it a night. All
the people in Japan were disappointed him, and knowing that

I have a question for you. Why did you set
out back to back All Star games when you were
perfec healthy all a ballbuster back then? Huh right, he was.
And the fact is that's exactly what happens.

So we would talk about like the modern guy sitting
out back in the forties, Bob Feller actually did choose
to opt out after being selected for the All Star
Game of actually playing in the game, and he did
it consecutor years his reaction obviously, because you know I

old kid. He's like, where did you hear that? I go,

I just read about it that you actually sat out
back to back All Star games because you didn't want
to pitch or hr chr arm or you know.

To me, there's no guarantees when you buy a ticket
that you're going to get every star that's going to play, Like,
there's no guarantees that that's how this is gonna work.
I do think with the All Star Game, there are
ways around and maybe you don't get to see him
taking it back. Maybe you don't get to see you know,
him go out there and take the field or pitch
an inning or a third of the inning, whatever it is.

But maybe you give it an opportunity.

You set up an autograph stand, get people a chance
to go get a picture with him. I don't think
it's that big of a deal that he didn't go

qualify for an ERA title, and then still have him

Summer League was going on, and so one time it

know how we work, Steve. Of course I still worked
my Saturday show. I went to the Elliot in Vegas

year was out you know, covering the pack out Bite
as well too, And so I've been out there kind

of in the vicinity of Summer League when it goes on.
I was shocked at how many people came out for it.
It's unbelievable shocked.

What do we watch it? I don't know.

I mean when, honestly, when Garrett starts talking to me,
which is daily, about like things that are happening, specific
things that are happening in the Summer League games, I'm like, dude, stop,
I can't okay, I know your dad's a little psycho,
but you're taking this to a whole different level.

It's stinking summer lea and I and I could get
it if it was hey man, while we're out there,
let's go check out a Summer League game. I get
it just watching some masks. Totally get it. And that look,
you've seen that happen in the World Cup to see
some of the rookies and stuff, and that's fun.

And you've seen it happen in the World Cup to
where some of these people that come from out of
the country will come out here and next thing you know,
they're a Red Sox game or they're in a Mets game.
Are there and so all of that I totally understand.
But it's literally the reason that people go to Vegas
in July. You've got pools, you've got ass walking around everywhere,

you've got casinos, you got fights, you've got and they're
going for Summer League games.

And I was shocked. I couldn't believe it.

Like it's a really big draw, the Lakers being maybe
the biggest draw to where it's not that far of
a hike. I mean, you hop on, you get on
the bird at Burbank and you're there in forty five
to fifty minutes and you're ready to go. I could
not believe spring training. I get spring training is a
destination for people on the East Coast. They want to
come out and get away from from the cold weather

they've been dealing with here. You know, obviously you go
out and it's a big to do, but you're following
this team. You have a sense for the minor leaguers.
You kind of know who's the next big thing. I
get spring training. I don't get the summer league affair
like I don't. And people love it man Like I was.
