We are a radio program available for podcast as well,
but at its core we are radio men. We have
been radio men for a number of years. The first
song ever broadcast Man of the Radio. On Christmas Eve
nineteen o six, Canadian inventor and radio man Reginald Fessenden
(03:25):
played Oh Holy Night on the violin and sang the
final verse while broadcasting from his own personally built and
now operational Brandt Rock radio tower in Massachusetts.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
That's pretty impressive, isn't it?
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Oh Holy Is.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
That the actual recording man?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (03:49):
That's beautiful? Wonderful? I thought it sounded like this repair
It's time for quickeas something ms quick hits. I'll make
a quick y'all. Yeah. The Clippers snapped their losing streak
(04:14):
in Atlanta last night. Coincidence that they sent that guy home.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
No chance man, No chance. Guy was negative energy. He
was a poison pill. He's gone and now they're winning
championship to come.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
That's not how Clipper Nation feels about it.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Hey, come on, he's upset, man, He's very upset with us.
He said that it wasn't cool that we didn't help
him get more viewers subscribers to Clippers Talk on YouTube.
I thought we were doing him a favor. I thought
apparently he thought we were mocking.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Something about insuppordinations. James Harden and Kawhi Leonard said they're
shocked by Chris Paul's news yesterday. They weren't the only one,
so it was fully fundile.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
That's what That's what I had. A. Moslin said too,
I'm shocked. Clippers Nation shocked.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Here's Tylou after the win last night. His first comments
about Chris Paul being sent away from Atlanta.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
It just didn't work out like we thought it would
for a well, and like I said, I don't like
it for CP, you know, but it just wasn't a
good fit, you know, And we understood that. And so,
like I said, it was an organization, you know, they
made the choice, you know, and so moving forward, you know,
we got to see what we do, so you know,
we'll see.
Speaker 7 (05:30):
Back to Christopher a second. You said it was an
organizational decision. Were you part of that decision? Do you
agree with the decision and do you think this will
help your team moving forward?
Speaker 6 (05:42):
I don't think it necessarily help our team. I mean,
I don't think the reason why we're five and sixteen
because the CPS, you know, play. I just think that
it wasn't a good fit for what he was looking for.
And you know, it is what it is. And so
do I want to see Cep go out like this?
Speaker 4 (05:58):
No.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
I have a lot of respect for him. He's been
a friend of mine over the years, and he didn't
want to see a great go out.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
You know, like this.
Speaker 6 (06:04):
But I'm pretty sure he will find something because he's
a great player, he's you know, and so I didn't
want to see it like this.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
It is what it is. Once he says it is
what it is, that's.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
It, because you know why, that's what it is. Nothing
else to say, like it is is what it is,
like it was, was what it was, is what it
is was not was all. Let's go with dinosaurs.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Dodgers have agreed to a one year deal with Miggey Rojas.
The thirty six year old comes back for a five
and a half million dollar deal, and then we'll help
in player development while also assisting the Dodgers' front office.
In twenty twenty seven, Yeah, we had David vess On
in the first hour to talk about it, and Dave
(06:53):
addressed this that Dave Roberts was a guest on Amazon
Primes Good Sports with Keenan Thompson and Kevin Hard because
that's who I want to go to for sports, right,
And he was asked, funny if baseball should have a
salary cap? Should baseball have a salary cap?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
You know what, I'm alright with that.
Speaker 8 (07:12):
I think the NBA has done a nice job of
kind of revenue sharing with the players and the owners.
But if you're going to kind of suppress spending at
the top, I think that you got to raise the
floor to make those bottom feed or spend money too.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Oh yeah, that there.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
You go, said sir.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
I don't know how well, as Dave alluded to when
he joined US earlier, that will be received by a
team that was willing to scratch out a one hundred
and thirty million dollars luxury tax payment so they could
spend over the cap, or a number of players that
believe a cap is well pretty much a non starter
(07:53):
for the negotiations that are coming up after next season
in twenty twenty six, and could lead to a strike
lockout off season in twenty twenty seven. Probably don't want
to have the two time world series.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
But you know, Matt, he's on a fun show with
fun guys. You know how it is, Matt. You want
to be cool, You want to sound cool. Look at
all that everybody loves it. You like that? Come on now, brother.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Hey, Kevin Hart, you make like a hundred million bucks
a year. Man, You're the only guy here should be
talking about a salary cat right, Kevin.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Look, this is a defence of them lockout. I know
what's kind of gigt Dave Roberts talking about salary and cats.
What you're doing just to be cold?
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Yeah, just uh no, no salary cat man. I want
these guys to make you don't have to lie to
kicket dames. They could possibly you don't have to lie.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
To kick a day. Yeah, answer, grant answer.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
That's weird, though, I would never assume that a live
studio audience would apply odd a salary cap for billionaire
owners to try to force spending to be rained in
by other ruggs. Like you would think that they would
crusty old white men trying to keep more of their
billions white.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
White man, white man, white man, white.
Speaker 9 (09:19):
Man, like they would want the other thing right, am,
I right, right, So they could say every day of
the week, I'm black every day the other week.
Speaker 7 (09:30):
Right.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
The Rams are nine and three. They're in Arizona on
Sunday to face the Cardinal Birdheads. The Rams are seven
and a half point road favorite. We are just moments
away from having given away the eight and four home
Chargers match up with the Eagles. Tickets for Monday night.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Phillies get in their answer to the phones.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Phillies are three point road. They were too busy.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
I gotta move them fridges.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
Uh, it's a big game and everybody's excited about it.
Justin Herbert spoke with the media about the surgery he
had on his hand.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Yeah, I heard it went well.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
You know, it's I think it's your hand.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
Been only a couple of days, so it's you know,
not much of an update. And as long as they
said it went well and you know, he was stabilized
and everything that, you know, the doctors were happy with
how he performed, so you know, I guess that's always
a good thing. It's just the next couple of days
to scene how the swelling handles and and what goes
on from there.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Did you get any information on what exactly the surgery was.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
No, they didn't tell me what they were going to do.
They just I just think.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
Yeah, I think it was a plate and a few screws.
So yeah, I don't know the exact medical terminology or
or what exactly went on, but uh, you know, he
said it went well and got it stabilized and he
was happy with how it went. Yeah, that's uh, you know,
that's the plan is to prepare as if I'm going
to play, and uh, you know, see how the next
(10:58):
couple of days goes, and do everything I can to
be out there for the team and for the guys
out there.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
If his hand gets all puffed up, then he probably
won't be.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Able to know Caand he was out there practicing today,
so well that's a good thing. He did not practice yesterday.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
No, that would be right because he is that guy guy.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
So as you said, he swelling recovery. Hopefully we'll allow
him to play week one after that hand surgery. It
is his non throwing hand, and he did play with
his finger all messed up and mangled, only miss ten plays,
So you wo'd assume if he can do that, probably
going to be able to go out there on Monday.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Night, and Matt Vandy's looking to do something odd, because
if there's a committee of random people, why not try
to impress them.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
I think it's a great idea. They explored the possibility
of playing an exempt thirteenth game this weekend to give
a final showcase for the college football Playoff. There was
interest from the university officials, athletic department, and coaching staff,
but the operational legislative requirements, along with last minute scheduling,
(12:07):
could not support the game. I love the idea of
Van dv Texas winner. Oh, come on, Miami v. Notre
Dame winner sark a.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
One piece of that dude crystal ball out though.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
All right? That'll do it for quick hits and four
our tickets to the Monday night football game between the
Chargers and the Eagles coming up next. We got your
one report as we make our way to five o'clock
and that Dallas Cowboys Detroit Lions Thursday night football game
on your home. With the NFLA and five seventy LA.

Bunch of play by play. It is Thursday night football

in elimination game between the Cowboys and Lions tomorrow. We
will go two to four, get off after or for
Adam Oslin to have pregame going into Clippers. The Grizzlies
(13:13):
tip off at five. Make to podcast that show, Oh
go to Clippers Talk on YouTube. Check out the Chris
Paul has been let go two AM broadcast for an
hour and then after last night's big victory, well apparently
it was Chris Paul's battitude that led to all this
losing because they are now six and sixteen. And then
I'm like.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
That one guy and one of the townspeople when the
first vote in Hoosiers is to get rid of Norman Dale,
and he goes, I told you once we got rid
of Here's the Clipper fans were saying last night, chit
would put that guy in his place in Oh Chip
would came up said, I think it's about Tom I
start playing ball again. Watch me one thing though, powerful moment.
(13:59):
All right, Matt, it's time for the F one report.
Max for Stoppin knew that he had to beat Lando
Norris in Qatar to keep his hopes for a fifth
consecutive championship alive, and he did just that with an
outstanding drive in the desert to leap up from P
three to P one for his third successive Qatar win
(14:20):
on Sunday. It was the seventieth Grand Prix win for
the Dutchman, his seventh season win, tying him with sprite
like Lando Norris and the Aussie Wallaby Oscar Piastree. He
now trails Norris by just twelve points ooh. Headed into
the season finale in Abu Dhabi, it was not a
(14:43):
memorable night for the McLaren team. Questionable team decision, to
say the least, cost Oscar Piastre, who had done everything
right over the weekend, who does everything right always winning
the sprint from pole position and following that up with
a superb pole lap for the main Grand Prix. But
although Oscar controlled the race on the track, McLaren's decision
(15:05):
not to pit when the safety car came on out
on lap seven, doomed the young Aussie and his chance
for his eighth win of the season. Matt Last week
in the F one report, we talked about the Qatar
tire rules. We are your home for tire rules soft medium, hard, radios,
white walls, all the tires. It's not even close. Not
(15:27):
even The Qatar tire rules required all teams to a
maximum of twenty five laps on any tire compound for
the duration of the fifty seven lap race due to
unsafe degradation. So when Nico Holkenberg went off on lap
seven and the safety car was deployed, it was an
obvious decision for all the teams to come into the
(15:48):
pits and make their first tire change. All the teams
except McLaren.
Speaker 7 (15:58):
Stang out.
Speaker 10 (16:01):
Is everyone bucks, almost everyone. Yet the streets to the
version of.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Just followed them, didn't.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
There was staying in.
Speaker 10 (16:19):
I have lost all that flexibility for the remainder of
the race.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
All my flexibility for the run end of the race.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Both pstre that's supposed to be jerk. They stayed out
during the safety car period, and yes, well it did
mean the other teams would need to pit again by
lap thirty two. It also meant that McLaren would need
to box both their cars by lap twenty five. The
math doesn't map, and on a circuit where tire management
and track position would be paramount, it was a curious
(16:50):
decision to not pit at least one of their cars
to cover their race strategy. After pitting with the rest
of the field, mad Max would re enter behind Piastre
and Nora, knowing it was now simple math, stay within
sight of the two Papyas before they box, and then
drive to twenty five lap stints for the race win.
(17:11):
Unbelievable was such a dumb idiot? A dumb decision by
the McLaren but one idiot. They gave up track position
to the best driver in the world, and Max delivers
with a flawless drive to take the checkered flag by
eight seconds, leading to an exciting final Grand Prix. Piastre
would valiantly fight back from the McLaren strategy mistake to
(17:32):
finish in P two. Oscar consistently had the quickest car
all weekend, summed up his feelings on the Papya strategy
during the cool down lap.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
So check a flag, check a flag Ice was incredible.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Spacious either that any Woods A spacious any Woods spacious
Patrick Stewart, it's as.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Sir Patrick Stewart is gandhi.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Statious.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
I believe you're referring to Ben kingsley Man.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Statious.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
I haven't heard a guy that upset since Adam Oslin
that Two in the Morning podcast.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
That that very well may end up being our greatest
F one solid bi.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Pretty good statious Woods. The smooth operator Carlos Sides would
bring his Williams home for a well earned P three
podium finish. It was more of a struggle for the
championship points leader Norris, who was unable to clear signs
and only got by El Bambino Kimmy Antonelli on the
(18:45):
penultimate lap when the young Mercedes driver ran wide. Lando
would finish in P four to maintain a twelve point
lead headed into the final weekend. McClaren CEO Zach Brown
from Taft High, who has become about as popular as
Lane Kiffin in a hot yoga class, tried to justify
the team's strategy.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Yeah, Lane's here, this is great.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
You play the sucks. Here's Zach Brown trying to justify
their strategy to not pit with the rest of the
field after the race. We made the wrong decision. I
feel terrible for Oscar and Lando.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
Oscar was absolutely impeccable all weekend, so we let them down.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
You know, you win and lose as a team, but
definitely not a great moment. I feel terrible. Matt speechless.
So it all comes down to Saturday night in Abu
Dhabi at the Yazz Marina Circuit, a place that is
known for late season drama, mainly due to the season
finale in twenty twenty one or a late safety car
(19:47):
and disputed decisions by then race director Michael Massey. My
Good led to Max for stop and overtaking Lewis Hamilton
on the final lap to win his very first drivers Championship.
Speaker 9 (20:03):
No, I'm thinking no, no, Mike go So no right,
Mike Good, Michael, that's the best.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
I wish we had more friends named Michael, Mike Good.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
The drama, Norris and just what a bitch he is.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Michael won't be there Saturday night, map, but the drama
may return.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
The equation for Lando to earn his first Driver's championship
is simple. A podium finish will guarantee him the title.
We did it? Will when did it? That's Lando?
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (20:43):
For Max, he must finish on the podium with neither
McLaren McLaren driver joining him, or a win by Max
coupled with a fourth or lower for Norris will win
him his fifth straight championship.
Speaker 8 (20:56):
Oh my lords, oh my god, these.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
People are insane.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
For Oscar, a top two finish is necessary. A win
coupled with Orlando finished lower than P five, or a
P two finished with Lando finishing tenth or lower a
highly unlikely scenario, but you never know. The young Aussi
will become the first Australian world champion since the legend
Alan Jones back in nineteen eighty. But as we said, Matt,
(21:29):
highly unlikely. It has been made very clear over the
last several weeks for the team from working which of
their drivers they would prefer to be on the top
at the end of the season. Clando Oscar will.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Be the astre win. He's got to like win, and
Max and Lando got he's gotta.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Win, and Max he's got to win, and p and
Lando's got to finish tenth or lower or a fifth
or lower. And if he's P two then Matt, Lando's
gotta go tenth or lower. It looks like Lando's gonna
win if he plays it cool. You're gonna hear his
sprite light scream. Oscar will need smoke on the water
and fire in the sky speechless, and we're here for
(22:12):
all of it, Matt Swiss. Time will run out at
five a m. Sunday morning, and that is the f
one Report Southern California. And we'll be right back with
your Dead and Alive Guide Birthday of the Day on
this crunchy groove and Thursday on five seventy LA Sports.
NFL Football coming up at five o'clock.

Still talking about it today.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
They still talk about Shoela's Joe in the leagues today,
even though he leaves in disgrace.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Yes, and Chris paul did leave in disgrace. Even though
he leaves a disgrace, you still talk about him. On

Tucow Me.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Two goes, butthole is right above your head, No.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
Easy two call. There's a big, big moment of Clipper history.
Tank top, Matt, you got the Allah the dead guy
Birthday of the Day to Avenue.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
I do.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
And it is Scottish news.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
I it's Coltish news.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
The news, it's the Scoltish what's your wisht Hi, do
you have an understand?
Speaker 3 (24:48):
The word that I'm saying? Got your cell? I owned
the Scoltish news.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Happy It would have been two hundred and thirtieth of
Thomas Carlyle, superstar of his time, a larger than life
Victorian thinker who was a go to for what we
call today as hot pakes. Back then it was strong
opinions and he was more than happy to weigh in
(25:18):
on everything with great conviction and a dramatic flare. Born
in Scotland, Carlile grew up in a strict Calvinist household,
meaning by the time he could walk, he was put
to work in those values hard work, discipline, education stuck
with him throughout his life. Tolmy wanted to be a minister,
(25:39):
but as he got closer to committing to that lifestyle,
he was like, eh man, maybe not, so he shifted
to the thinker category, asking where is my mind? He
was in literature, philosophy, history. He worked as a tutor,
a translator, a reviewer.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
This is one of that favorite songs, is.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
It about Tuco? All the while trying to break it
as a writer himself, and while it took a while,
his sartor resartus. How about this A blend of fiction,
philosophy and satire is very strange. Critics at the time
didn't know what to make of it, but they liked it.
It got a lot of attention, quickly established Carlyle as
(26:26):
one of the in crowd, a thinker, if you will,
and once he had an audience, Pete Carlile played the hits.
He shared ideas about the forces that shape society, nature, leadership.
It's like a Tony Robbins of his time, moral responsibilities
of individuals. His most famous work, The French Revolution, A History,
(26:46):
was a huge hit, one of the best selling books
of its day, and the primary inspiration for Charles Dickens.
Carlyle tell me if this sounds familiar and what people
are into these days? Disc history with gripping, almost cinematic language,
turning political events into human drama. Basically an Eric Larson.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Type or like TikTok, just like really what people are
into now.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
One reviewer wrote of Carlyle's The French Revolution to history,
you can feel the chaos, fear and energy of revolutionary
France through his vivid prouse. He was also a talking head,
like the opinion shapers. You see on your favorite cable
news channel. He did not his fact.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Then they used to talk in the salons right with
salon style.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
And you would hold a court, you would hold court
at the salon, in court or in court. He did
not hesitate to critique the world around him. He thought
the rapid industrialization of the nineteenth century was turning people
into cogs in a giant machine, robbing society of its
spiritual core. His book Passed and Present was heralded comparing
the medieval past, idealized medieval past with the industrial present
(27:58):
that he said was morally bankrupt and sucked the souls
the working man. Of course, he was not without his
detractors and controversy. He believed in heroes figures like prophets
and poets and kings, and he often veered into fascist
