Speaker 1 (00:01):
On air at AM five seventy LA Sports and on
demand on the iHeartRadio app. This is the Petros and
Money Show. You are one of the kind hosted by
Petros Papaday guests left school after sixth grade. Look at
and the voice of the Bolts Mat money Smith. The
answer is on money. There is nothing you can do.
You know it's coming. This is the Petros and Money Show.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
On the home of your world champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Make us your top preset on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
That's not the original.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
On the telephone stupid so OSDD if you overwhipped?

Speaker 5 (00:40):
What is that?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Our hisstory? We need to find one of these really
rich people in this city to step up and stroke
a check, and I'll do everything I can to make
you the most famous person in the city.

Speaker 6 (00:49):
As a Southern American.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
You said something that got up underneath my skin.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Do you like skin products? You see the mark?

Speaker 5 (00:56):
It couldn't be anything else.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
If we are to make reality endurable, we must all
nourish a fantasy or two.

Speaker 5 (01:06):
Tell me you expectro some money. Hay five seventy eight
Sports Live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. We got first
pitch from the gaalpin Ford Broadcast Booth six forty pm.
Dodgers Diamondbacks, fourth and final of this four game series
before they come home to take on the Angels. And
we have been giving away tickets every hour for Dodgers Angels.
Still have a pair to give away this hour, So

(01:27):
you want to go to the Freeway Series this weekend
at Dodger Stadium. Keep listening to your home of the
back to back World Series champion Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
And now you know, I've tried for years to give
away tickets, like you know, I sometimes I have to
if Matt's not here, you know, if the Bolts are
playing somewhere like Brazil. And I've tried for years to
give away tickets, but it's gotten to the point and
I have worked it out. It's gotten to the point
where it's like RoboCop, like I can't like, you know,

(01:55):
how excited to shoot the guy. Yeah, yeah, he tries
to shoot the guy at the end, and he's like,
there's a program in there that makes me unable to
do it. That is how a droid. Matt is as
the master of giveaways. No man, So I can't even
like I try, and it just catches in my throat
like RoboCop. Now, like if somebody like you know how

(02:18):
they ended up killing the guy, like the guys like
you're fired and then RoboCop was like, oh it blew
him out of the yeah, thank you. Yeah, and then
he would fly out of that window and died like
Hans Gruber, you know, falling out of the window after
being shot. But yes, I am like that. There's a
glitch in my system. So if you hear me giving
something away, I'm not even sure if it's legit, like

(02:41):
you could probably take it to court. Are you doing
it right now? I'm sorry, I messed this up. I'm
gonna I'm gonna get hold off.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
I'm gonna figure out if we can remove that protocol
that is programmed India and see if we can maybe
get you to give it away next segment.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
It's really hard. It's like, you know, I can't put
on like a UCLA hat, you know, I just can't.
You know. I support U c l A and we
love mc cronan, love love Bob Chesney. We used to
hang out with Jim Mora and his lovely wife before
the terrible divorce. Yeah, Shannon, you know, I mean It's
not like I haven't had. You know, my brother played

(03:17):
at UCLA, Dmitri. He still wears his football shorts around.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
That's why Tim Kase tried to get you fired from Fox.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah, yeah, to get rid of it. I just can't
do it. It's a glitch in my It's kind of
the same with a USC hat, to be honest, it's
a glitch in my system, Matt. But I can put
on a Cyclone's hat. Put it on right now.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
He's business. I'll put that cycle e Cu. Yeah, purple's
your least favorite color. Don't give an us it's ECU. Man,
let's go.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
What is it called? Matt? Wait till I touched the
road and decalm the cow. Yeah, that's where I'm going.
And who wants an NIU hat?

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Me?

Speaker 5 (03:55):
I do.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Sadly, it won't be the first NIU game. I'm done well, Matt. Look,
the big event happening right now is that the Canicks, right,
the Nixon spur it was we talked to the McLain.
It was exciting. I was at a graduation party at
an Italian American household in the neighborhood Renzo Chaconi's I

(04:20):
guess a culmination party. When it comes to Mike, that's
not a graduation from fifth grade.

Speaker 5 (04:24):
That promotion I done. Culmination culmination, it's a culmination of elementary.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
It sounds like something from a romance novel. But anyway,
I was at Renzo Chaconi's house last night and it
was very difficult to watch a game as the finest
Indian pitcher ever from southern California, Indian like you know
from Bombay. Suda Ready was in charge of the controller

(04:50):
and he kept shifting it over to softball, and so
I found it difficult to reason why Suda Ready he
is in charge?

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Does he know someone that.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Was to say he enjoys baseball and anything like it,
which is fine, you know. I mean, he had his
spot on the couch when I arrived. So I got
home and I watched. I was able to watch most
of it, and it felt like a big event and
it was, uh, it was kind of cool, better cursive
riding on the sides.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
I don't mean to knock the story off track here,
but I apologize you should. But I think there's enough
listeners that would back me on this that I would
I would like some clarity, but this is not Suita
Reddy's house. He is also a guest at Reno Chaconi's Renzo, Sorry,
Renzo Chaconi's.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Not Reno Williams.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
The adventure begins. So he is at Renzo Chaconi's house,
correct a house populated with parents of a number of
fifth graders for their culmination.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
To mention the eighth grade, which I think there was
another graduates there.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
So now we've got multiple and he has.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Just Renzo's son Rock, so believe's graduating eighth grader.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
You got Roco there as well, and you've got the
NBA Finals.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Multiple families, Matt not to mention the great halfback and
safety that I played high school football with Chris Duffy
in the house.

Speaker 5 (06:13):
And I would assume and all the athletic leaning families
would prefer to watch the NBA Finals.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah, but Sudaretti did.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
But he doesn't live there.

Speaker 6 (06:24):
How does that man commandeer a remote from somebody else's
home and someone else's TV and dictate terms on what
sports programming everybody gets to watch.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Have you ever seen a poster or a painting of
the Indian of Vishnu?

Speaker 5 (06:40):
Yes, many arms, many So you know he's so he's
holding everybody off with the men.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Margarita had one arm he's holding uh C.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
Insanity to me.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Matt, Matt Sudaretti is very much a psychopath, No, a
figurehead in the neighborhood. The idea that he would put
softball on during the NBA Finals. Suit already has like
four sons and they all look like Russian treasure nesting
dolls a little bigger, and he's the biggest other.

Speaker 7 (07:12):
No.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
I was talking to Suita for a while, like he
was flipping back and forth, and I didn't really get
to see much of the game. That is like that.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
I mean that takes balls to grab a remote in
someone else's.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
House, you know. I mean he's very close with Renzo. Yeah,
closer than I am. I would say, you know, they
have a baseball in common or whatever, so you know, okay,
I mean I wasn't. I wasn't as incensed as you, Matt.
But thank you for me, thank you for being upset
for me. That is something I wasn't incensed at all.
But I'd noticed something I forgot about, which was the

(07:43):
San Antonio mascot. The coyote. Yeah, bug eyed, acrobatic and
for pomorphic coyote introduced.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
In eighty three, very wildly Coyote Vibe.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Inducted into Matt Smith's now defunct mascot Hall of Fame.
It was a big boondoggle in the city of Whiting
thousand and seven. He makes two hundred thousand dollars a year.
Whoa yeah, but does a lot of community outreach. Anyway,
it was a good game. We talked to McClain about it.
And despite the the colors of the Southwest represented in

(08:14):
the stands with the T shirts, and Antonio lost the
lead and the game and the New York mailbox Head's
flag is up, way up as it should as it
should be, but there is a downside. What's the downside?
Charles Oakley still banned. Charles Oakley remains banned from Madison

(08:36):
Square Garden, despite please from both Michael Jordan and Adam Silver. Jesus, yes,
according to Rachel Nichols and her whistling nose, she's a
viable source. Yeah, uh, Rachel Nichols said. Adam Silver says
both he and Michael Jordan tried to get Charles Oley

(09:01):
reinstated into Madison Square Garden, but he's still banned. He's tried,
They're trying. Everybody's trying pushing James Dolan, and it won't
happen for years. Matt. We all know that Charles Oakley,
a former Bull, one of your favorites. Yeah, one of
my father's favorite players. He broke Kelly Trapuca's face when

(09:22):
he punched Michael Jordan was one of the Knick's most
fervent supporters for many years, but in twenty seventeen, he
went after jd a straight shot during a game. Play
was momentarily stopped and Oakley shoved the team's security guard.

(09:42):
He was later arrested and charged with assault and trespassing.
Oakley's a gentleman in his older age. He's got beautiful
gray hair. He's a chef. A few days later, Oakley
was banned from Madison Square Garden. Dolan did a rare
public interview. He does a lot of public performances, a
rare public interview, and he said it was not necessarily

(10:04):
a lifetime band. And Oakley's been at the road games
and everybody wants to see him. Following last night's win,
the Knicks are three games away from winning a title.
Oakley was ten years in New York. Every year made
the playoffs, they love him there in Gotham, and it

(10:27):
just doesn't look like it's going to happen. Matt. The
bitterness is too deep with JD and the straight Shot
and JD.

Speaker 5 (10:36):
I hope it just somehow bygunes. Come on, JD, listen
to the straight Listen to that fiddle player, you know.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Matt Mode. Yeah, Modin has been going to base basketball
games at MSG for years a lot of frustration there
as a nick fan. But did he ever use any
of his vision quest wrestling moves on JD or his security?
That's why you see him on the sidewalks, still in there.
That's why he's still in there, you know, doing the

(11:05):
peg board before the games, you know, the board. You know,
did you did you ever see Ben Stiller uses Zoolander
North Korean death moves or whatever? He's four foot two?
Did you ever see him use that against.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
He follows the rules, right, you know?

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Yeah? Did you ever see Spike Lee get that black
guy to have sex with James Dolan like he did?
And she hate me? You know, I assume that would
be done behind closed doors, didn't pregnant him all where
it to happen, So, I mean, you know, it's a
bad situation, and uh, I don't know if it's ever
going to be resolved. I mean, think about our situation, Matt,

(11:47):
if we were up for some award or something and
somebody who we had bad blood with wanted to show up,
like Patrick O'Neill, I mean, the or even worse.

Speaker 5 (11:57):
I think in the case of Patrick O'Neill, that's a
perfect name because he does have a particular moment in
PMS history that a lot of people point to it.
You know, I've been listening as long as when you
guys went to Norwalk for the peace treaty.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Right, Yeah, the peace treaty that was short lived. Yeah,
because David Vasse texted right outside the he was trying
to text Syria. He was trying to text us, but
he texted Patrick O'Neill instead, saying, this guy's a douche's crip.
Look at this. This is whit of a problem, a problem.

(12:32):
Peace treaty had literally been signed for five minutes.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
The ink was not even dry, literally was not even dry.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
I mean, I can't think of anybody, I mean, all
of our hatred stands, all of it.

Speaker 7 (12:47):
Yes, tip think of the WWE esque moment they can
have Monday Night at the garden where everybody gets quiet
and James Dolan gets the mic. Everybody's booming, and he
plays up to it, has the heel and he says,
ladies and gentlemen, chors.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Hocally place with goe no sprints out there. You blow
the top off Madison Square Guard. Everybody would love James
dolinan you know what when min Yama might even just
get on the buzz and leaves at that point, let's
call it, guys, this is not our night.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
That's a great idea. I could only enhance it by
saying one thing. If he brings out the fiddler from.

Speaker 5 (13:20):
JD and the Straight Shop to play him on, play
him on with the fiddle.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Did you hear that they played that song during the
San Antonio the intro of the Knicks. They played like
a sad like. I was like, what the hell is
this just from Carousel? So anyway, is it exciting? NBA Finals?
We'll get to some baseball next with Three Things Thursday,

Speaker 5 (14:45):
Any power, you have the power?

Speaker 2 (14:47):
No, you know what, man, I thought about this the
other No, I thought about this the other day. I
thought about this the other day. Don't tell me I
have the power. Don't try to don't try to snap
me like it's leg day. Power, No, like it's squat day.
Don't try to do snap. Don't say I've got the power,
because I don't. And after that one, I.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Never did squats nobody ever played me snap while I
was in the gym, and I'm stuck with these toothpick legs.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
I worked this out a long time ago. I don't
give away stuff, so you do it, Matt.

Speaker 5 (15:17):

Speaker 2 (15:56):
All right, it's time for three Things Thursday.

Speaker 5 (16:04):
Three Things, So for award season, we here at the
Petros and Money Show or No Strangers to Award season,
we have found ourselves nominated in our history twice for
the Marconi Award Outstanding Excellence in our talk radio program.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Countless Southern California sports broadcast.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
And for each of those.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Our care's about us as people.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Our Stellar executive producer Tim Kates has to find a
moment from the show to submit for our nomination. Well, not, well,
we're already nominated, so we submit to win the Marconi, Like, hey,
you're nominated. We need a moment from the show that
you believe represents why you are the greatest talk radio

(17:02):
show in America for the calendar year twenty sixteen or whatever.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
And I think we stopped submitting many years ago. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
I think one of our submissions was our interview with
Vic when he knew that show, Hey, that when he
knew that Tiger Woods was reaching behind the seat to
get the pills. I believe that was one just to
such a sensational moment for the show, and unfortunately Steve
Harvey ended up snatching.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
It from us.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
But I would say for award season, you don't officially
submit in sports, but you always hear well, if Matt
Leonard wants to win the Heisman, this is his audition
right now against Notre Dame. You know, those are the
kind of things you hear, like, this is your moment
right where you can win.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
The high set. You have to have a signature moment, right,
And so I remember Carson Palmer going airborne to score
a rushing touchdown against UC in two thousand and two.
People fight. That's what I said on the side, right,
and people were and people were like, that's it.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
That's his segment, that's his heisman moment. There's his submission.
He's gonna win the award.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
I don't often understand what you're saying, Matt, but that
I understand. I think last night is this submission for
Sho Hao Tani. Uh.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
Now, it was locally broadcast obviously Arizona versus the Dodgers,
even though the top two teams in the NL West.
It's on late the East coast might not be watching.
But I would assume on MLB TV, on Baseball tonight,
on FS one, all the talk shows last night will

(18:43):
be the driver for the Sho Hal Tani MVP Cy
Young conversation because of what he can do and no
one else can do.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Man a breaking ball that just absolutely froze Walshman, it's.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
The best breaking ball night by Otani. Wow so far.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
That is just mesmerizing. And Otani breaks his bat, robson
in the right field. He's got his third hit of
the night and the bases are loaded. All the bat died.
A winner for Otani. It's his average back to three hundred.
Anything past this guy after what we witnessed a couple
of years ago in the fifty to fifty season. Man,

(19:24):
he slaps onto the right field for a base hit,
one hop to the right field of perfect here and
Otani is two for two. He's been on base all
four times tonight.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
That's right, five of six at bats he was on base.
Absolutely incredible. And that's like the thing about Otani. As
great as Wemby is, you know, there's other seven footers
like chet Holmgren's a freak at seven foot two. I mean,

(19:55):
Nikola Jokic at two hundred and ninety pounds, moves with
grace and vision and can handle the ball. And just
like there's other guys that can do that. Is as
good as Josh Allen is, there's other quarterbacks in the
league that at least are comparable right or Pat when
it was Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
What like as fun as Justin Herbert's relationship is with
Madison Beer. There's other guys who date famous jicks.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
Two right with Oughtani. There's nobody.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Nobody else does this.

Speaker 5 (20:22):
Nobody like there is not There are eight, I don't
know what it is now, eight point two or eight
point three billion people on earth. There is not one
person out of those eight point three billion that can
do what we saw last night that can throw an
average of ninety nine miles per hour with precision, strikeout six,

(20:46):
walk just one, carry a perfect game through four, ultimately
allow two hits. Back that up with getting on base
five out of his six plate appearances. He raised his
batting average last night by eight points. He went from
two ninety three to now north of three hundred.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Is at three and we were worried about him.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
You idiots, You panic brother, idiots. And he is now
hitting over three hundred. He has got a Dodger best
nine forty one ops and he leads Major League Baseball
and on base percentage that's at the plate. Pitching, he

(21:30):
leads the league in era. He dropped his ERA to
point seven four.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
Swing in a minute and Peven Smith strikes out, so
Tonni got him with a ninety eight mile an hour.

Speaker 5 (21:40):
Heater point seven four is half the era of the
next best pitcher, the one point four to nine of
Christopher Sanchez or Sanchez or crist Over.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
There are many.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
Different ways his names. He leads the league in whip walks,
hits per aining pitch with Jacob Mazarowski at point seventy nine,
the two guys that are most often mentioned as your
cy young front runners right now, as Paul Skeen's numbers
have dipped a little bit with a little bit of

(22:17):
rough patch that he's going through right now. But again,
this is when you combine it with the ability to
be on base five out of six times, two walks,
three hits, with then dominating over six innings, taking a
perfect game through four. There's just nothing like it. And

(22:37):
I would assume for the Dodgers, I don't know if
it's if it's like the you know, the SEC guys
that I don't. I don't know what else Trinidad can do.
I don't know what more the people want on the
Heisman Committee, what more they want to see that what
he's doing out there than what's happening right you know

(22:57):
the way.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
When Musburger was doing and uh what was that guy's name,
Tommy Dorsey game in Miami and he was like, if
that doesn't win up the Heisman, yes, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (23:10):
Yeah, Like this is it? Like you six innings?

Speaker 2 (23:14):
Well I would say that, Matt, But who knows what
else he's gonna do? Right, And that's why it's muck
Listen radio with Timmy Nevern on the call.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
O the best second thing. Not only is it great
on the on the radio side, and all of that
is free. You don't have to subscribe, you don't have
a certain provider. You just get that iHeartRadio app. You
tune into AM five to seven terrestrially and you hear
the great Tim Neverett, uh and Rick Monday. But to
the television side, a tip of the cap to our

(23:41):
dear friend, one of our absolute favorites, Oral. Herscheizer record stands.
That was never in question. Pe, congrats on the car dealership,
and congrats on the car dealership. You want to start
with ORL Kates you want to start Okay, let's start
with Oral. And let's hear when he passed the great
Don Drysdale for the most consect yative scoreless inning streak

(24:02):
in baseball history here in September of eighty eight.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 8 (24:08):
We'll go ex Dreames and give him a chance, go
one two pitch, five ball to ride on a semi
check swing. Benzamas the record all Hersheizer fifty nine consecutive
and aims scoreless the all time records.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
So that was a complete game, ten innings, complete game,
ten innings, and the tenth inning was the inning that's
talk about doing it in dramatic fashion. The tenth inning
was the inning that passed Don Drysdale's fifty eight and
a third for the record. Now, Sanchez got freaking close, man.

(24:53):
He was north of fifty last night with the Padres
when ultimately it came to an end.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
Oh what won the count and the pitch swung on
line towards left field. That's a base it France coming
around third, they're gonna wave him home. The throw by
Marsh is not in time, and the scoreless streak is over.
And listen to the crowd applaud Christopher Sanchez here in
a one to one game.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
So congratulations to Sanchez. He becomes the Major League Baseball
all time leader as a lefty in the scoreless inning
streak with his fifty and two thirds, I think that
ends up third all time if I'm right behind Drysdale
and Oral. So he mounted a serious run at it.

(25:47):
But feels like one of those the Joe DiMaggio consecutive
game hits streak, one of those records that will never
be broken, especially in the manner in which our good
friend Oral did it nineteen eighty eight. And also quickly
on on Oral and Joe Davis last night on the
TV broadcast when the game got away a little bit there,

(26:08):
and you know, they start having their conversation.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Joe starts going through all the different colors of his pens.

Speaker 5 (26:14):
He they got into ice cream one. They got into
ice night, so no pens last night. Pe The yellow.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
One is for various plays that are at second base.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
Man, this peaked my interest. I had it on the background.
I was like, did they say ice cream? But Kate's
what I think ultimately, And because your son plays baseball,
p I believe it peaked your interest as well, because
there was some nice nostalgia in there from Oral, who
decided to fill a lot of times. You know it's
the play by play guy that's that's guiding the fill

(26:50):
of a seven nothing game.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
But oral not what I have to work? Good? Great,
can you help me out here? Or people in the
stands and let pet oral U.

Speaker 5 (27:02):
Grab the reins. And he told the story about the
Mizuno mitmobile that would roll in to Vero Beach to
Dodger Town and all the guys that were sponsored by
Mizuno would go in and it was just like being
a kid again, where you would get to pick what
kind of webbing you wanted and what color lacing you wanted,

(27:24):
and then they would ask you how you wanted to
break it in. And this was what really caught my
attention because they would then walk you through where do
you want the thumb to break? How do you want
the pocket to break? Do you want it to be
pinky thumb touching? Is there less? Is it an angle?
And he said he wasn't sponsored by Maszuno and whatever.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Happened to the Miszuno mitmobile, that sounds like a lot of.

Speaker 5 (27:43):
Fun, right And I got to think and like, my god,
I bet I would have been a much better baseball
player if I just didn't ask my dad to back
up the f one fifty on top of my piece
of crap rawling so that it was pretty pretty nice mitt.
You know that traptress under your mattress. So it got me.
You know all the different ways You've got young Fletcher

(28:03):
now playing baseball? How does how does the old man
break the mid? And I would assume you're the guy.
What are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (28:08):
I'm not the guy. Thanks for exposing me. I often
wonder where he got his mitt and who broke it in.

Speaker 7 (28:19):
Case in high school, the infielders used to infielders used
to get shaving cream. Shaving cream and then you lather
it up and put it in the microwave.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
That's a football.

Speaker 7 (28:31):
That's what you used to do for the gloves to
soften them up. Uh, inform them how you want it.
As a catcher's mit, I would get the jugs machine
at school and go down to the you know, batting
cage or whatever, and just sit there and just catch
ball after ball after ball to break in the catcher's mold.
How about that, which I've seen big leaguers do, And
that wouldn't strew up your hand, No, it was perfect.
It would break in the catcher's mitt. Nice and perfect.

(28:53):
By the way, if you go to a I don't
know Dick Sporting Goods. Nowadays they'll do it. They have
a machine. It's like a away, but a fancy looking
one for you.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (29:03):
I think that's because that's what I think. That's what
Oorl was.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
It sounds about, right, Matt, That's what he said.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
Yeah, they do it for you now they have the
little the pneumatic hammer that breaks in the heel and
all that. Back when we were doing it, it was, Yeah,
I didn't know about shaving cream. I didn't know about anything.
It was. It was probably the worst break of anyone
on little what I had going on my front. Do
you want to get into the ice cream talk that
they got into?

Speaker 7 (29:28):
It did get him to the coolestone and Joe knowing
the difference between like it, love it and gotta have it.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
I mean he was it was it was good ice cream. Tone.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
We'll expose Joe a little bit. He loves his ice cream,
and Kate's you like you like the sweets as well,
have a vice.

Speaker 7 (29:41):
And then he's like, well Van Lewin's the best ice
I'm like, whoa the fancy Van Lewin?

Speaker 5 (29:45):
Okay, that's Whole Foods right there.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
And people say handles but I'm a van Luin. I
think oil was like I was just thinking briars in
the gallon, brother, but.

Speaker 5 (29:53):
Heylin it is and with oat milk as opposed to
full whole milk, final thing pee. Going back to our
conversation yesterday, Jeff Passing today wrote his trade yesterday two
days ago, I think was the Athletic today as Passings

(30:15):
trade seven thousand word each team players on the Move manifesto,
and it goes back to to kind of what we
talked about and what the narrative will be if the
Dodgers end up trading for Trek's schoobl that they're bad
for baseball, that this is why we're going to have
a lockout. But much like Jim Boden wrote David Thatsay's

(30:38):
dear friend, Jim Boden wrote on The Athletic, and Passing
wrote today, this has nothing to do with Trek School
will being.

Speaker 8 (30:48):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (30:48):
It has nothing to do with Trek's school being owed.
Like twelve million bucks when you trade former ten million bucks.
If you wait all the way until the trade deadline,
every single team will gladly pay ten million dollars to
put Trek School on their team through the postseason. The
difference is nobody's got the farm system the Dodgers have either.
And this is what David Vasse brought up to us yesterday.

(31:11):
That what Dave Roberts said to Bob Nightingale. Yeah, we've
got the package if we want to do it. It
could be one of those three starting pitchers she and
Rableski or River Ryan combined with either Zayer Hope to
Paula Serota, whichever top three outfield prospect they want, and
there's probably not a team in baseball unless they want

(31:31):
to drastically overpay they can touch those two players in
a two for one deal. And that has nothing to
do with how much money they have. It has to
do with our dear friend Gomer and all those guys
in the front office that we know but we don't
want to out them by saying their names. Just mentioned
Gomer here, and what they're able to put together and

(31:52):
develop has zero to do with dollars and cents and
the Dodgers being more wealthy than everybody else, and everything
to do with their farm system and what they have
able and available to trade.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Well, there it is three things. Thursday, Pigalores getting more
and more puffed up every day, more and more erect,
like a crane in the harbor. We'll be right back
with your dead and a live guy birth they other day.
Remember we're still going to five thirty. God, we love
this schedule. Two to five thirty all week, except for
tomorrow we'll start at three.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
This is petros Money on demand.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Petro sand Money on a crunchy groove, and Thursday we
started it too, and you can relive it all on
the iHeartRadio app for your smartphone. Yeah, it's all right there,
David masse, Don McClain, all the fanfare. It is on
your iHeartRadio app for your smartphone to podcast or stream live.

(33:01):
And we've been giving away tickets all day, every hour
for the one hundred dollars gift card to the Grays,
Craze and Redondo Beach. We also have that to give away.

Speaker 5 (33:13):
Do we eat cage? Do we technically have a pair
to give away in the next hour even though it's
just a half hour? Is that something we have to
negotiate with you for Dodgers on deck for who gets
the Dodger Angel tickets for next hour? A great question
by you, Matt. I'll give it to you guys.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
You know, the like the equalizing of the commercials. I
think that a lot of these things should be done before.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Probably just you know, I figure, you know, that's why
we gave him away a little bit earlier this hour.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
I was like, okay, and if you want to throw
another charcuterie board at somebody's face, and you think you
can do that and made to order sharkul featuring premium meats,
cheeses and housemade dips and more, you give me that
fig jelly order today at Grayscraze dot com. You know,
some people stay away from that, but Matt goes right.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
After right to it. Give it to me. All right,
let's do it. I just eat all the gurkits we'll
we'll give away. We'll take it from Kate's. We'll take
that olive branch, Thank you, Kates. And you'll take that
delicious olive tappinate from the Grace Craze folks. We'll wait
for next hour. We'll have one more of those cards,
one more of the pair of tickets to give away
next hour for coucils dodgers.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
Much like a pula sitch and pulisic, I prefer top
of nod it's time for Jamaican News.

Speaker 5 (34:28):
It's Jamaica News, Ziga Brods doing what's right.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
Today we'll celebrate a crossover figure of the seventies and
eighties and Jamaican music, Mikey Dredd, also known as Michael Campbell.
He would have been seventy two years old today. Mikey
Dredd was pretty interesting guy. He was obviously Jamaican, a singer,
a producer, an electrician, a broadcaster like us you know,

(35:00):
and an electric musical engineer like Ronnie, but more like
Butcher big than Ronnie, like the yeah from Port Antonio,
which is northeast Jamaica. He was interested in performance and
electronics at an early age. He could engineer and perform

(35:20):
and he did both as a team, and he worked
at his high school radio station. He went to the
College of Arts in Jamaica and studied. He studied. He
went to college like his whole life. Studied electrical engineering
at the Jamaican College of Arts. Started as an engineer

(35:40):
in nineteen seventy six on the radio station the Jamaican
Broadcasting Company, the JBC JBC, and then he started his
own radio show, Matt called Dread at the Controls where
he played reggae and then adopted the name Mikey.

Speaker 5 (35:58):
Dredd Oh Mike Native Wayne.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
But even before Dave Wayne, he recorded his signature tune
dread at the Controls for Lee Scratch Perry. He worked
with many others and started his own label and started
producing all kinds of different guys like Sugar May Not
and Earl sixteen. He then attracted the band The Clash

(36:27):
Joe Strummer and those guys became interested in the reggae
he was producing and invited him on tour and to produce,
and he was very suspicious at first of The Clash
and what they wanted from him and their intentions, but
soon they became friends and he produced this song bank
Robber for The Clash and performed all over the nineteen

(36:51):
eighty album mentioned Just the Other Day on Petterson's Money, Sandinista,
good Stuff and most famous class track he sings on
is probably Armageddon Time. He started recording, studied tech recording
technology at North London Polytech and the National Broadcasting School

(37:13):
in London. In the eighties, he produced a ub forty album,
did a reggae documentary for British TV. Worked in the
nineties with the Is. He stradling from G and R,
collaborated with him, moved to the US, taught electronic courses
in Miami.

Speaker 5 (37:32):
I bet he took a tour of the KFI studios.
Tim Conway Junior, welcome him in with all of his class. Huh,
he might have dang dog get in here. Take a
look around, everybody ding dog.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Tim Conway of Miami, who is just like Tim Conway
but has a parrot on his shoulder. He got his Uh,
he got control of his musical library and started putting
it out under his label. In four he did the
montrou Jazz Fest, and six he did Glaston Barry. And
then he died in two thousand and eight of a
brain tumor at his sister's house in Connecticut. But we

(38:05):
remember him still today in the reggae leagues, the great
Mikey Dread Dread at the control.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
Well, we stick with the music for your live guy.
Happy eighty second eighty two years old is Michelle Phillips
born Holly Michelle Gilliam right here in Long Beach. Father,
a merchant marine, moved around. Mom tragically passed away when
she was just five. Family moved to Buffalo for nine months,
then back to Pasadena, but when she was just nine

(38:32):
they moved to Mexico City six years.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
Hey that's good. Hey, that's gonna be safe for the
World Cup. Okay, no doubt. The cartels aren't gonna. They're gonna.
They want to see the games too, Okay.

Speaker 5 (38:45):
In Inglewood lately six years. She went to public schools
down there, so Michelle was fluent in Spanish. She did
come back to la for high school, but despite being
a smart kid, had a bit of a rough Go
Hamilton High, then Marshall.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
Go Yankees, Cup Barristers.

Speaker 5 (39:03):
She was expelled despite excelling in athletics, in music, played
the piano, guitar, cello, ended up in Eagle Rock High.
Let's go Eagle And then she just walked out the door.
At seventeen, left for San Francisco to chase a modeling
dream and it worked.

Speaker 9 (39:19):
Don't you love her when she's walking out the door,
And by work Pee, I mean to hell with you,
Calvin Klein, our girl, Michelle Phillips was the billboard model
for Lucky Lager.

Speaker 5 (39:34):
So I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
That's a great beer that's delivered in palettes.

Speaker 5 (39:38):
That's right, And you can solve those riddles when You're
drunk the underside of the cap. She got into the
club scene as she became an incredibly popular model and
in turned the music scene. At a club when she
was seventeen, she met John Phillips. He was on tour
with his band The Journeyman. He divorced his wife. He
married Michelle when she was eighteen. They moved to New York.

(40:00):
They wrote songs together, including California Dreaming. They paired with
Denny Doherty and Cass Elliott from The Mugwumps to form
The Mamas and the Papas. They decided to go to
the Virgin Islands to work out their sound.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
They get some island, being Matt, you would do that
if it wasn't for this darn radio show.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (40:21):
Right?

Speaker 5 (40:21):
I can really find myself on this island. They had
to pull John out of the idea that they had
to be a full crew and embrace pop with the
songs they were writing. Those rehearsals were the first time
they ever played plugged in with electric instruments, and it worked.
Got an audition with Lou Adler, nailed it, got a
record deal, a terrible record deal, by the way, one

(40:42):
that's often pointed to as one of the worst record
deals for an artist. They got five percent of royalties
on ninety percent of sales, so the label got ninety
five percent of royalties on one hundred percent of sales.
California Dreaming was released December eighteenth, nineteen sixty five. It
came a top five hit. It set up the album,
released eight weeks later, to enter the top two hundred

(41:04):
at number one. This One Monday Monday was the follow
up and ended up as their only number one hit.
They won two Grammys, and then our gal that we're
celebrating today decided to start sleeping with Denny from the
group There, and then she decided to start sleeping with
Geene Clark of the Birds. So her husband, John Phillips

(41:24):
kicked her out of the group Get out of here,
but her replacement was not up to the level of Michelle.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
I'm John Phillips, I'm a moral compass. Oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (41:35):
The band basically Cast and Denny were like, dude, suck
it up, you gotta have Michelle in the group, so
they brought her back. They went on tour, a tour
filled with a lot of drugs shows where they were
completely out of it. So off the Road back in
the studio, dedicated to the One I Love, a huge hit,
peaked at number two. Creaky Alley Top five, did the
Monterey Pop Festival, one of the all time great shows

(41:57):
with Jefferson Airplane, Jimmy Janis, and then their next show
was their final show a couple months later at Hollywood
Bowl August nineteen sixty seven. She did the final album
The Papas and of the Mamas, and then she had
her daughter China, who of course lead and Wilson Phillips
Mama's Papa's officially broke up in seventy one, had another

(42:18):
affair Roman Polanski while Sharon Tate was pregnant.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
Classic for a minute.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
Polanski thought John Phillips was behind the murders and the
killing of his wife as revenge for sleeping with Michelle.
Michelle got into acting and did pretty well. She did
the Last Movie with Dennis Hopper, got the lead in
Dillinger was nominated for a Golden Globe. There put out
a solo record that did nothing, but known very well
for her acting work thanks to her role as Ann

(42:46):
Sumber on Knots Landing eighty seven and ninety three. I'm
Sure pe you know, she was Tat's mom on nine
oh two one zero, Valley Malone's mom Abby.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
Yes, smoking weed.

Speaker 5 (43:01):
It's a big part of the campaign to legalize it
here in California. She was eighty two today, Michelle.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
Phillips not gonna talk about John. No, you know today day.

Speaker 5 (43:09):
Yeah, Today's Michelle's day and celebrate her. John's a different day.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
You're right, that's a different story.

Speaker 5 (43:16):
That's a different story that he decided to write.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
You know. I mean, Michelle Phillips might have had a
good acting career in Knots Landing and nine to two
and zero, but she did not make the Scooby Doo
celebrity episode like Mama cast did No Man Don Knots
and the like, which is a mark on her against.

Speaker 5 (43:33):
Her Well, maybe you know, Knots Landing was just her bag, dude, Like,
I wanna be kidding me, give me nuts Landing all
day A jel Rees.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
Says, Matt, get a bag. We'll be right back with
your final hour fun Fact and the quick Hits and
the rest of the show.
