Speaker 2 (00:56):
Telling me you s meetro said money going to Dodger
Baseball from the Gavin Port Broadcast booth at six forty pm.
Rokie Sasaki on the mound, but we are live on
location at the Van's headquarters and cooks some Maisa the
great sounds of water towers serenading the crowd every single
break we take, and that will continue through five thirty pm.

(01:17):
That is how long we will be here. Could not
be more excited about that. Thank you to Steve Van Dorn.
He'll join us at the back end of this hour
to talk about Vans and all the great stuff they
have going on over here, and on top of all that,
Sean Green pee. In the four o'clock hour, we'll check in.
And we have been efforting Sean Green for a number

(01:37):
of years. Finally got it all put together. Efforting is
is is right? Many a year we have reached out
to Sean Green and his people to try to get
him stopped by one of our summer tour stops. A
regular request from many of our listeners, a local hero,
a Dodger sensation, and the single season home run leader
for the Dodgers for over a quarter of a century

(02:00):
before shoe Otani broke that record two years ago.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
And a big thank you to our sponsors, Toyota and
the Toyota VIP Lounge. How many of you people actually
drive at Toyota. How many of you actually participated in
the Instagram show your keys contest? I bet not much.
I saw two of you roll up in an asusu Amigo,

(02:25):
what liars and a super u brat. I saw one
of those two liars to the people. But God bless Toyota.
Our sponsors at Toyota, blue Eyes, Vodka, Silk and Jann
are in the house pouring vodka. Everybody's enjoying Blue Eyes Vodka,
the Huckleberry vodka that Matt loves so much. In factious,

(02:45):
he's drank so much huckleberry vodka that he has.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Developed I'm your huckleberry emphysema.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Like Doc Holliday caught a lunger, he's become tuberculosis ridden.
And also our sponsors with the Freedom Foundry.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, we saw big and Little Dave Cardona there in
the middle of the field and they have graced us
with a YETI cooler packed with Freedom Foundry gear. Freedom
Foundery usa dot com is their site. You can see
all the great clothes that we are excited about that
we wear in our personal lives, that we believe you
would enjoy as well. That is still to be given
away along with all of our other great price very

(03:22):
complicated personal life too.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
So it's really about me help simplify it, and I
wear that Freedom Foundry hat and flannel to let everybody
know that I'm a real fool.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
With my socks high. It provides a foundation on which
you can build your daily life and personal live. Also
gives you the freedom to do whatever you want, right
to found some that's right, That's what it does. What
else we got as sponsorship, Matt, who are we forgetting?
We are forgetting our friends at the MGM and the
MGM Resorts, shows and meals, drinks, even a roller coaster
ride all inclusive to night's day. A Luxurors caliber starts

(03:54):
at just three hundred and thirty bucks. For two visit
MGM Resorts.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Dot Com and one lucky listener, we'll get a slide
down the side and one of the Luxer on a
potato sack.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
I don't know if we've cleared that. I think we're
still playing that with legal.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Everybody says that stupid roller coaster at the Strata is
where it's at, But no, man, it's the potato sack
down the Luxer onto the freeway, sprint across the freeway.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
That's really That's a lot what it's all about. Yes,
absolutely so that is we're again checking that one out.
But we will give you a two night's day take
it to the iHeartRadio Festival and to a one hundred
dollars gas card for that grand prize as well.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
And we gave away if you missed the last hour.
We had a couple of technical difficulties with the blasting
Armenian music.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
But overall we got off pretty clean.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
Henrik from Barbecues Galore put down a great deal Matt
for the people that you can go take advantage of
right now.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah, I was talking to him in the break. He
did not want to put a number on it. That's
why he said fifty percent, because he said it was
going to get him in a lot of trouble. He's
going to take a loss on these things. So I
would say, if you missed it, it's fifty percent off
particular island that they know about, and it is below cost,
so it is a loss for him. He loves you

(05:07):
love these type of deals. If you've thought about putting
an island in your backyard, that turbo rill refrigerator, granite
countertop six foot island available for fifty percent off the
same one Steve van Dorn bought for his backyard. And
that's a high class individual right there. Okay, we're partying
in his backyard right now. Steve van Dorn, Ladies and gentlemen,
our hosts. What a guy. So take advantage of that.

(05:27):
If you are shopping for an outdoor backyard entertainment spot,
fifty percent is unlike anything you are likely to see
anywhere else. And the stream is good. Guys, we're up
on the stream. Stream is strong.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
You see me there on your stream that's on YouTube
and on x and on Facebook.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
And you see Kenny walking around.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
He's doing graffiti and he's handing out stickers from our
great band water Tower.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
We are so pleased to have water Tower.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
We've had the aqua bats and fast times at this
event in the past, and water Tower has been a
heck of a lot of fun. And they're wearing long
coats just like Doc Holliday. At any moment, heat stroke,
make sure you hydrate. No, no, no, no, no, all
right now it is time for the word of the day.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
His words. The word of the day.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
Today's word of the day is clever k Nines.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Do you know what I'm talking about? Oh, we're going
back to the miners, Yes, Matt.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
There's been a development in the Kendall George Saga Dodger prospect.
Kendall George was playing in Tulsa for the Dodgers and
they have a local promotion for the Clever K nine
dog trainers where they make your dog clever with a K,
just one case short of being offensive.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Clever k Nines and that's why you're not in the club.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
The promotion was for the dog to run out on
the field and grab different items during the game, the
minor league game, and the dog fetches the items, much
like the dog Blitz at Boise State, who I have
worked with directly. I'm sure you're a big fan who
goes out and gets the kicking tea and they play
little barks and there's a charity involved and everybody's happy.

(07:20):
But Blitz the dog, to my knowledge at Boise State,
has never taken out somebody's ligament like Troy Polamalu flying
low to make a tackle. Unfortunately, the dog in Tulsa
did that, and not only did he do it, he
took out the knee of a big Dodger prospect, Kendall George.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Now, Kendall George, Yeah, he got hurt. Was in the
dog's fault.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
Well, we can discuss that, handler said, and we've discussed that.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Sing.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
I'm just telling the story, and you're being invasive, like
an invasive non native plant.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Now, what happened.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
Kendall George got hit by the dog and he missed
a game or two, and then he tried to act
like your boy acts when he gets like run, you know,
falls on his skateboard and doesn't want everybody to know
that he broke his ankle or something. He tried to
walk it off for like seventeen games. He was like,
I'm cool that dog didn't get the best of me.
And then like two and a half weeks and he said,

(08:19):
I'm ringing the bell like g I Jane.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
He rang out after.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Seventeen games were getting blown up by the Clever knine.
Kendall George's season ends with knee surgery, confirmed today on
x and on Instagram, and on his Instagram he wrote
promotional stadium dog won Kendall George nothing Now. Some people,

(08:45):
and I'm not gonna say who, have argued that much
like this happens in the wild. You know, a dog
bites a kid or something, that dog has to be
put down. What no, No, well that's what you're.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Arguing with. Somebody. Who where is he who said that?
How dare you? Where's put the handler down? Don't put
the dog down, put the handler down? Said them.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
They have canceled the Clever Canine program and Tulsa the
dog no longer flies out of the dugout to retrieve anything.
Because let's be honest, it's a risk and it's very unfortunate. Now,
I did learn because I, unlike you guys, am very
educated because I watched no, no, no, I'm very no
you guys, I watch bodycam videos all the time. And

(09:30):
you guys, you know, you have real jobs and stuff.
I don't blame you, but I know what's going on.
And when the police have a police dog, you know,
and they fire that fur missile at at you know,
some kind of criminal or alleged criminal, you know that
dog doesn't really know, Like that dog doesn't know what
a bad It might bite you if you're like a

(09:52):
fireman and your hand is in there, you know that
dog doesn't care you get in the way of that
dog's focus, that dog's mission. That dog's gonna destroy you
as well. And you know that's the dog's right, that's
the dog's mentality. They said, yeah, you gotta get your
ass out of the way, because yes, the police dog

(10:12):
not only bites the criminals, but it'll bite cops, firemen, bystanders,
anybody that's around.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
So it makes sense.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
It stands to reason that the clever canine was not
going to be thwarted in his mission getting out of
the way of the Dodger player.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Hence it's up to the handler to wait to send
the clever canine at the proper time. Well, I don't
know either way.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
The program has been discontinued, and who knows if Kendall
George will ever be the same.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
It's one thing.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
To have your career ended by a bad collision, you know,
on a double play at second base, maybe yeah, you
got hit on the elbow and your arm never recovered.
But to be taken out by somebody's German shepherd and
a dugout for a promotion of a minor league game. Dismeo, Klastima,

(11:02):
Kendall George, and we will continue to monitor this story
and we will be able to name the dog and
see what happens.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
I believe dogs at juvenile The name will not be shared.
A juvenile dog, the name will not be shared. His
fate is hanging in the balance. Hanging in the balance,
all right. Now it's time for the number of the
day to number of the dame. Number of the day. Peace,
two as in two legs. Now. I'm not sure how
many people I may be speaking to that have experienced this.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
We do have some one legged listeners, we do is
there any one legged be brave?

Speaker 2 (11:37):
We had one regular one legged listener that would come
and wave his leg in support of us at many
of our summer tour stops, but we have not seen
him in a little over a year. Where is our
one legged listener? He did win a pair of bands,
by the way, at this very remote his one leg
we gave him one shoot we did see here we go.
If you have visited London, this is something you know,

(12:00):
and I will try to paint the picture for your
mind's eye if you have not been there, so you
can visualize the appeal and understand the uproar. One of,
if not the greatest thing you will discover while visiting
the UK, is pub culture incredibly friendly, more of an
open invitation to get together than an exclusive meeting between
known friends and acquaintances.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
You could see our band water Tower, oh big hit
over there really being a huge hit at a British pub.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Of some kind. Now their beer is warm.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Maybe like a pub called Help the Poor Struggler or
something like that.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Indeed their beer is warm to us. It is not
the greatest thing to press your lips too, but in
its environment its own environment. It is wonderful and better
than that is standing not at the bar or sitting
at a table, but exiting the pub, just outside the

(12:55):
door to get a little bit of a breeze, little
more elbow room, and a collection of folks just chatting
about the topics of the time right out there on
the street. It is absolutely glorious. When we had the
COVID here and the Alfresca showed up and we began
drinking on the streets together, they really loosened the laws

(13:15):
in California. They sure did.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
Now everybody seven to eleven sells fireball. Who knew it
reminded me of the old country.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Everybody's got a liquor license. Now. I had hoped we
could figure out how to keep it that way. The
UK government pe is cracking down on something perfect, something
enjoyed by everyone, something truly identified with British culture. Some
have said the UK has lost its way. Yes, they
have lost its way on this because some old cranks
don't like listening to people having a good time. A proposal,

(13:44):
and this is so bureaucratic to call it. This to
limit vertical drinking is what they are calling the proposal.
Limitations on vertical drinking, So what if you go out
on the street and lay down and drink.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
Kind of seems like you could maybe sort of waterboard
yourself with a of old.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Peculiar thread the needle. The Westminster City Council is trying
to force patrons inside to sit at tables instead of
gathering on the corners outside the pub, to reduce noise
in the neighborhoods, and it was met with a lot,
as you can imagine, pushback. Westminster is the pub capital
of the UK. It is their identity. The city Council
is meeting pushback from not only the people pe but

(14:23):
the Prime minister. Oh really, the new one. Andy Burnham,
the brand new Prime Minister, said quote the pubs that
we have here are the heart of high streets. It
is important to signal at the start of my time
in office that I will be a defender of the
drinkers and of the pubs. I follow a lot.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Of British Instagram stuff because I don't travel.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
I just live it through Instagram.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
And they have well I travel to call football game,
but they.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Have a bargo here you come. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
My daughter is very unhappy that she doesn't get to
fly around because I have an anxiety problem. But I
follow a cockney reggae pub in London where it's all
like big fat white people dancing around to old reggae
and hanging out outside. Yeah, that's popular, drinking beers on
the corner outside and all.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
The way inside. It is. It is quite a thing.
So while we are in ocean away Pee, thousands of
miles away, well.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Here in Coasta, Mesa, it's like New Orleans. You can
just walk around drinking. Well we're doing today. We're vertical
drinking on Harbor Boulevard, out in front of the in
and out. Everything's great.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
We are vertical drinking. Everyone to support our friends seven
to eight thousand miles away. Raise a glass, enjoy our
Brewery X SuDS or our Blue Eyes Vodka cocktails. As
we spread the benefits of making new friends during vertical drinking.
May you enjoy the next two hours of our broadcast.

(15:46):
As a community, we sip SuDS. What AGA's sitting outside? Cheers.
I don't think they put tables out there. I think
everybody just congregates.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
What if you're crouched like a cholo, is that still
vertical drinking? Like if you're like you know how your
crops in front of your car to take a picture
and you have your drink.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Is that vertical drink thing? Mike Sam, That's a great question.
It's all in the worrying pee. This is out Esse.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
My brother had a Mustang and this was every picture
we took was like, hey, look at this car that
my dad bought for us. Running this song day, pet Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
Sunset Writer is our song of the day from an
outfit called the Live Wires. Because today the Petros and
Money Show dives deep into the oc on a frog
Man Friday, broadcasting live from the Van's headquarters in the
city of Coasta, Mesa, saying farewell to the summertime at
the third and final stop on the thirteenth annual Petros

(16:47):

With plenty of.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Prizes to be had, including exclusive customized van's courtesy of
mister Steve Van Doren. So gather the family up in
Enjoya's summertime afternoon of barbecue and fun at the Van's
headquarters before Tim Cats gets you that good Morongo Casino
Dodgers on deck show It's coming up at five thirty,

(17:09):
did you running?

Speaker 2 (17:11):
We have got Sean Green coming up at the top
of the hour. What are you gonna talk about Max,
Matt Dodger Baseball. Do you want me to do some
chollo stances?

Speaker 6 (17:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Absolutely, I thought the crop got that. Now you can
do a stance while you do the Your Dodgers still
love it? Oh? I love it. Hi, somebody give me
a flannels like a buttet at the top. It's some
white sox.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
Oh oh yeah. We'll be back with more petrol. Somebody live.
Thank you for being here, everybody. God lets you all.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
PETREL's papadacres that money snick, This is petrol Send money
on man.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
Seconds Arker water Tower. Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
What a great band regaling us with their sounds.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Our second hour and they are going strong. We got
another hour and a half for about an hour and a.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Half, a great sports talk live from beautiful vans at
the headquarters in Costa Mesa, The Petros and Money Show,
our final summer tour stop. We really appreciate everybody being here.
Sean Green, Dodger legend, will be here in about an
hour and we will talk to him and we will
have Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck. At five thirty, Tim Kaits,

(19:12):
our executive producer, will be here live at five thirty
doing Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck. We already had Henrick
on from Barbecues Galore. We already talked to David Vase
from a Chase Field in beautiful downtown Phoenix, Arizona.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
We have a lot more giveaways.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Sean Green to join us and the band Water Tower
and of course Blue Ice Vodka Brewery X, the Carls
Junior Truck, Hoffee hot Dogs, frozen Yogurt courtesy of yogurt Land,
and the Fellowship of Great Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
We really are great forks sports Talk.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
That everybody is here and right now it is time
as we situate ourselves for the top story, top story of.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
All right, p I figure as we talked to David
Vesse a little bit earlier, we would play a.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
Little ANDSS had a pretty good attitude, I would say,
top to bottom. David Vassay's attitude was like a B
minus and and and on the second city of a
road trip when the first city was Chicago, and you
know Vassay was on a three day bender. That is
pretty that is pretty remarkable.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Basically alcoholics. Yeah, so courtesy of a five seventy day
comes on. He works here, but.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
That doesn't mean he has to be cool, and he
was relatively cool today.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I think great light of the delay as well. The
delay was a bit odd. So here we go. Can
or can't you complain? That's what we've decided to do today.
In the top story, Have you lived through it is hot? Well? Yes,
you can complain about the weather. However, as uh I
remember who it was. I want to say it might
who was on with us that said South Florida. Try

(21:05):
to get some of that action and complain to me
about what the weather is like right now in August
in southern California. Oh you know it was Mike McDaniel,
who was coaching in Miami the last four years. So
there we go. Have you lived through enough sporting misery
to complain about a six game losing streak by the
back to back World Series champion Dodgers?

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (21:25):
Really right? Do you need to be thankful? Do you
need to be grateful if the Dodgers don't win a
damn thing for the next five years?

Speaker 6 (21:32):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (21:33):
I am very happy because I don't need to worry
about whether or not I need to, like wonder if
I should be grateful or not or how I should
be feeling about something.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Because all I have to do is ask Matt.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
Smith, and I'll tell you the moral compass of Dodger nation.
That's correct, and he'll tell you what you should be
grateful for, thankful for, resentful of and pined for from
the past, and be hopeful for the.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Future of the future. It's exactly right, because you know what.
The past, it's the past. You can't do anything about it.
The future, we don't even know if it might be dead.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Let's celebrate today right now, just like together, just like
Mike Damon says in fast Times at rich Mount High,
wherever you are.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
That's the place to be. Isn't this great? Isn't this great?
Isn't this great? The Dodgers on a six game losing streak.
Earlier with Dave Assay, we found out Blake Snell will
be pitching Monday or Tuesday. Who knows when Tyler Glasna
is coming back. Who knows when Will Smith is coming back.
Who knows if Sho hal Tani will pitch again this season,

(22:39):
and if Dalton Rushing will play again. Our friend Mookie
Betts has been in a two year slump, but he
did turn it on at the perfect time during the
playoffs last year. Freddie Freeman, as Dave Assay told us
one hour ago, is the straw that stirs the drink.
Will turn thirty seven years old in five weeks. Max

(23:00):
Munsey will be thirty six in eighteen days, and he
looks every bit of forty seven. Guys that age routinely
are no longer at their peak. And we have never
had a three peat in the National League ever. Ever,
we have never had a three peat in the National League.

(23:23):
The A's and the Yankees have done it in the
American League. No National League team ever. The odds are
not good on paper. The Dodgers are very good, but
historically Father Time the baseball Gods not great precedent. So
before everybody starts freaking out because you think this thing

(23:43):
is not going to come together thanks to a six
game losing streak, here is what we remember. The nineteen
nineties were miserable. The Lakers made one Finals appearance, a
loss to Michael Jordan's Bulls that kicked off their Chicago dynasty.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
This is where Matt tells you what you need to
be grateful exactly right. You remember the decade of the nineties.
You have a roof over your head and food in
your mouth. How dare you ask for a gi Joe
guy Son?

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Do you remember the Kobe airballs against the Jazz in
the playoffs? That was our laker existence in the nineteen nineties,
humiliating the Kings. One Stanley Cup final appearance and the
last time the freaking Canadians, not the Montreal Canadians, but
any Canadian team won a Stanley Cup was at the

(24:32):
hands of the Kings. USC football in the nineteen ninety
hissed me, gives here the double middle fingers. One Rose
Bowl they beat Northwestern.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
Hey, hey, hey, I shaved it to ten in the
Sun Bowl in ninety eight.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
That season, Pace scored a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
They were up seventeen, and I said, no, they lost
two Silos. Shave this to ten with my touchdown? F
you TCU who called that touchdown? Who were favored to
beat by twenty one points?

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Who called that touchdown? Uh? They lost two sun Balls.
They lost to Freedom Boy and Verin. Oh. Yeah, they
did win that Rose Bowl, but that season be even
with the Rose Bowl win, they lost to both Notre Dame.
You play nineteen irregular.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Season nineteen ninety five exactly, Yeah, Keishawn Johnson team.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
And they missed Bowl games four times. A miserable decade
for the proud football Trojans. The nineteen nineties. We missed
the ball game two in two thousand. R CLA basketball
had one magical run nineteen ninety five, a tournament that
was a huge deal at Obanon Tyas And to Baby Bailey,

(25:47):
he still pulls wool off of that, George ziedik Oh,
you want to talk about pulling love the country. That's
house they call The Dodgers in the nineteen nineties only
made the playoff twice, a very Angels like decade for
the Dodgers where they did not win a single playoff

(26:07):
game zero and six in their playoff appearances for ten
years nineties.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
But Hadeo Nomo got us ready for Otani. Indeed did
he lathered us up with Japan. You know, he got
rid of all the bad feelings about World War two
and he and he set the table for Otani, for
the acceptance of Otani. Without Nomo in the nineties, we
would never have Otani today, and Uniclo and all of
our Japanese friends like Yamamoto and Sasaki was holding.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
The ball to night. Ten years of sports Peak, one
title from a blue chip team, the UCLA Bruins in
nineteen ninety five great moment years and one title. If
you were born.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
About Brandy Chastain showing her shorts sports Bravo at the
Rose Bowl.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Never heard of it? I mean that was that was
an LA moment. No hey, yeah, the Columbia USA game
in nineteen ninety as well at the Roads Bolt. You
went through high school if you were born in nineteen
eighty and most of college with nothing, zero parades, two
NFL teams leaving your city for Oakland and Saint Louis,
you can complain you earned it for a decade of futility.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
Meanwhile, some of our listeners thea are here weren't even
born in the nineties. That's right, like the guy in
the yeah yeah yeah shirt over here. If you were
born in nineteen ninety.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
You spoiled bastards because just when you were getting into sports,
you got the Shaq Kobe Lakers three peat. By the
time you were out of college, you got to see
the Lakers make seven trips to the finals and win
five titles. You got the three peat. And the Kobe repeat. Now,
the Dodgers were still a mess, but you did get

(27:50):
the usc Pete Carroll run with Mattleinert and Reggie Bush.
Oh that was a big deal. That was a big deal.
You go, was a little bit like the fall of
the Roman Empire. Got kind there at the end, but hey,
right in the middle of it, this is crect.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
I mean, whenever I think of the Matt Lioner, Reggie Bush,
Pete Carroll, Aaron, now, I think of the scene in
JFK and the Garden District where Tommy Lee Jones is
painted in gold le may Oh yeah, and they have
Kevin Bacon dressed up like a cherub and they're all like, ah,
you know, I was.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Just real debauchery. God bless them. And the hockey fans
pe the first ever King Stanley Cup championships, two of them.
That was a big deal. We covered though, huge deal.
We almost got decapitated on a parade bus I did. Yeah,
it was a pair attention. We had three straight UCLA
Final Four appearances, which, apparently, according to some people, isn't

(28:40):
enough for Bed Holan to keep his job. You tell what,
you're not competitive in the games. And Joe Kim Noah
blows you away. Yeah, if you were born in nineteen ninety,
while you were in high school, the NFL brought not one,
but two teams back to Los Angeles. Before you got
out of high school, you got the two Kobe titles.

(29:01):
Just before you were starting college, the Dodgers you had
to wait a little bit. And if you were born
in two thousand, my goodness when it comes to the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
So what is the I mean, you're gonna go through
the Dodgers greatness? I'm sure, but exactly Pete, all right,
but what I mean?

Speaker 2 (29:15):
Look? Am I allowed to be grateful? Or am I
allowed to be ornery? Pe? What did you grow up
with here in the great city of Los Angeles? Titles
or a drought? A decade worth of drought teams leaving
you for other cities like freaking Saint Louis.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
I don't know if it's sports related or not, but
just a lot of shame and regret, really for shame for.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
Those of you born in two thousand, like the dude
and the yeah yeah yeah shirt. What did you witness? Nothing?
The fall of Troy.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
You missed the world the fall of Troy. You were
born too late to enjoy things.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
You had to live during the Steve Holford uc LA
era in basketball.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
You never had to do an emergency breakthrough on your
girlfriend's phone only to get her dad.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
The highlight of your the UCLA basketball career was Lonzo
Ball losing at Kentucky in the second last an he
shot like this good of the NCAA Tournament. Your high
school taste of the Dodgers was mixed one of supreme
dominance in the regular season combined with playoff misery. But
they did make two trips to the World Series, lost

(30:20):
to the Astros and the Red Sox, a trip to
the World Series against the Red Sox that unfortunately cost
one Boston beat Rodder his life at the mouth of
Tim Kats on an MLB Network appearance. But your life
as a Dodger fan is ridiculous. They started winning the
division when you were thirteen. They have lost it one

(30:40):
time since, and they won one hundred and six games
that year. You have seen three World Series titles in
five World Series trips, a dominant run that has been
unrivaled even by those Atlanta Braves and Tbs that were
celebrated for so many years USC football, even gave you
a Heisman Trophy winner that I know. Petros is very

(31:01):
excited about celebrating despite not winning anything really as a
team and a head coach that decided to end arguably
the most storied rivalry in the history of college football.
It'll be back when he's gone. The point BNP. It's
a six game loser. Here it is, Here's where this
is it. This is where it all comes to. This
is when Matt tells you whether or not how to

(31:23):
feel six game losing. Stropen your heart in this century,
tear it apart.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Get ready for Matt to tell you, yes you, especially,
sir sailor shirt. Get ready for Matt to tell you
to feel how to.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Feel this millennium, this century? How am I not myself?
We have had six Laker titles, We have had three
Dodger Championships, we have had two King Stanley Cups for
UCLA Final four trips, two usc National Football titles, and

(32:00):
even for those of you in the oc An Angels
World Series, in a Duck Stanley Cup, Oh seven, the
Ducks who can forget oh seven? Not to mention ignore
the parade population a RAMS Super Bowl championship. That parade
was horsecrap a grand total of seventeen championships over these

(32:23):
twenty five plus years with baseball left to be decided.
It is a six game losing streak amongst a century
a quarter century of absolute sporting dominance. You're not to
be thankful for.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
You're not allowed to be upset. That's right, do you
hear him? So smile once again.

Speaker 2 (32:42):
Let's raise a glass, Okay, to seventeen championships over twenty
five years that we can reminisce about together, Not some
six game losing streak by a team that is eight
and a half games up in the NL West.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
Seventeen championships of vertical drink. That's exactly right, cheers everybody.
So you're supposed to be happy. You're not allowed to
be upset. Now, let's say Roki Sasaki and his big
stupid glove and his friend. Okay, a frightened look on
his face, gets his boobs ripped off tonight and the

(33:18):
land of the cactus.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
How about he keeps his booms? How about he does it?
How Buddy keeps u Let's just say he doesn't.

Speaker 4 (33:24):
As the Dodgers entire pitching staff has a pretty flat
chest these days, what how am I supposed to feel that? Mack?
How long can the losing streak go until I'm allowed
to be frustrate?

Speaker 2 (33:38):
I'm glad you asked me, because last year it lasted.
Seventh game? Know how to feel? Seven games? It lasted
last year? And how did it end up? Exactly right?
With a World Series championship. You've still got a little
bit of wiggled straw man.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
Seven games last year, so eight games I'm allowed to
get upset.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
Yes, eighth game, you can get upset, all right, but
not until then, frog Man, because I'm gonna get pretty upset.
I think we forgot to do that.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
We can bring it back next hour we go before
Sean Green shows a great idea.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
All right, what do you want? He's in Arizona. We're here.
We have a band, We have a band. What is this?

Speaker 4 (34:22):
This isn't a Bruce Springsteen concert where you yell out requests.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Yeah, well, listen, man, we've never tried that one before.
But let's and get a couple of cords going on
this illegal rive lits see illegal wire tapping. Give me
a baseline. I don't see if we can get this song.
And that was just yelled at me from there. We've
never tried this. I don't like the Patriot Act, all right.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
He was yelling about what I saw. He went out
for thirty minutes about the Patriot Act. Steve messeldor what
the hell is the Patriot Act?

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Steve van Dorn will join us when we return. The
sounds of water Tower will grace the people here, come
see us. We're going till five thirty pm. Another hour
fo five minutes here at the Van's headquarters and coast
to Mason. It's the final step of our PMS summer talk.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
This is petro Symoney on Demand.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
So time to search the world around, because you know
where we're wrong.

Speaker 4 (35:42):
When I come around, When I come around, When.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
I come around, when I come around? How about that?

Speaker 7 (36:03):
Huh?

Speaker 2 (36:04):
How about these sounds of water Tower on the Petrosen
Money Show. I am five seventy La Spurges. We are
live on location at the Van's headquarters in Coasta, Mesa.
Still here for ninety more minutes than Tim Cats, gonna be.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
Here for another hour of Dodgers on He's gonna stay
for Tim Kates Dodgers on deck.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Who's got the ball? I got a feeling this is
the year This is the year it's gonna be packed.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
I heard Beachy the parakeet is gonna do the pregame
interview with Jimmy. This is the only bird I've ever
seen that is a drink Garnish. Joining us right now
on your Toyota Soacal Dealers celebrity headset live from his

(36:54):
own backyard. Quite simply the greatest host in the history
of great sports talk radio.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
And beyond sports talk.

Speaker 4 (37:04):
Bands, skateboarders, surfers, artists, people from all over the world
have fountained a home with Vans, one of the greatest
sports and leisure brands in the history of Southern California
that has gone global, and its ambassador is our host,

(37:27):
a guy who's been a longtime friend of a show,
just organically like we make most of our friends through
the world of am radio. It is fresh off the
warped tour in Long Beach, headed out to beautiful Montreal
and then Washington, d C. It is the one and
only Steve Van Dorn of Vans.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
Our hosts and hero. He opened his home to each
and every one of you. What a guy, What a guy?
How are you? Steve? What's going on?

Speaker 6 (38:00):
I'm doing great?

Speaker 7 (38:00):
Especially everybody coming out here to Coasta Mesa, California. When
my dad moved from Boston in nineteen sixty four, he
was coast to Mesa and he started Vans in nineteen
sixty six. We're honored to be here and we're honored
to have you guys. We finally got a stage built
up for you.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
I mean, this is incredible. You know, this is incredible,
a class for you guys. Remember the triple decker one
that I got my hair cut on. Oh yeah, how
about that? We had the half pipe. Yeah, that was
our half pive.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
My hair around the headset exactly right, best haircuts I've
ever had.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
That was our skate exhibition with the great Christian assoid
Jeff Grosso was out that day. That was a heck
of a.

Speaker 6 (38:35):
Time for us. Steve, do you emo on the ramp there?

Speaker 2 (38:38):
Yeah, you have been with us for many years, helping
us put on these great parties. Let's talk about your
great party. I bumped India at Long Beach at the
Wharf to what an incredible success. Tower Play at the Wharf,
Tower Play both days.

Speaker 7 (38:49):
Honored to have them play at the Vans Warped Tour,
and they're going to be coming out to beautiful Orlando,
Mexico City, Montreal.

Speaker 6 (38:59):
These guy's a die about that.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
Man, that's absolutely amazing up tour bean out here today
it was. It was a great atmosphere. It had been
a while since we had that warped tour vib Give
us an idea of what it was like rolling around
the country thus far, especially here in Long Beach. One
hundred and thirty thousand people over two days.

Speaker 6 (39:15):
It was unbelievable. You know.

Speaker 7 (39:16):
The one thing is is that you know, they thought
it was hot there, but if you were in Washington,
d C. In June when it was one hundred and
four degree eighty five percent humidity, we were dying. But
we we're glad to be heading to Montreal in about
eight it's about twelve days and stuff.

Speaker 6 (39:30):
We're going up to get some of that Canadian love
up there.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Absolutely, we've did.

Speaker 7 (39:34):
Many times Van's worfthtrow over the twenty four years. We
did again from the west coast, you know, going all
the way to the east coast Montreal as well as Toronto,
but Vancouver was always a good stop too. But you know,
we only two years away from the Olympics. I was
just thinking Somebody told me today that me and my
daughter Christy, we went to Paris to watch and cheer
on the skateboarders two years ago, and we're so proud

(39:57):
of Arisa and Cocona turn got the gold and the
sil medals in a girls park out there. So two
years from now you will not believe, but you will
not believe the talent that I see out there at
the Van's Whooped too. We have a sixty foot wide,
thirteen and a half foot vert ramp and the demos
that you see on these nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen
years old.

Speaker 6 (40:17):
In two years, it's going to be an amazing time.
So looking forward to that. Just got back from New
York City. You know sometimes in New.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
York City, Yes, what was going on in the big town.

Speaker 6 (40:27):
So we went out as a give back day.

Speaker 7 (40:29):
So the president of Timberland had got twenty volunteers from
all the VF companies and we went out there and
my grandson's twelve. We said he you're going with us
because he needs to get community hours.

Speaker 6 (40:40):
So we worked his ass off for eight hours. We
actually swept clean, weeded and painted an entire with twenty.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
People, entire skate park fantastic.

Speaker 6 (40:49):
Now it's called Owl Skate Park. The Millennium in New
York City.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
I had a fantastic and so it was really we
need our state park.

Speaker 7 (40:56):
Steve, Yes, we did, you know, But I gonna do
a collab.

Speaker 6 (41:02):
Maybe you have to go along with me on this one.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
But in Fiji Air, I'm in.

Speaker 6 (41:06):
We're firing from.

Speaker 7 (41:07):
Fiji Air from l A to Fiji for like three
and a half days, like three days, four nights, and
we're gonna.

Speaker 6 (41:13):
Have Cavallero, go Ray barbiego Tony Alva.

Speaker 7 (41:16):
They'll play music, Robert Vargas painting up stuff, and we're
gonna go do a demo out there with some BMX
ers and stuff.

Speaker 6 (41:22):
With Fiji Air, we're making shoes.

Speaker 7 (41:23):
So everybody on that flight, three hundred and fifty people
getting shoes Fiji.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
They know that. Do the people on the flight know
that they're gonna be getting sue.

Speaker 6 (41:29):
If they sign up right now?

Speaker 2 (41:30):
Beautiful?

Speaker 6 (41:30):
It's right, you know, So where they sign up?

Speaker 7 (41:33):
I just look, go to FIJIIR, I'd say, right now,
we'll be running a contest for people to win. You'll
be watching just watch Vans dot com.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
All right, what retail retail store go to retail retail stores.

Speaker 4 (41:49):
You can heard when I heard that Vans is going
to Fiji and there's gonna be a special flight. Is
that I'm gonna be holding down to fort here. I'm going, well,
Matt's been toned into a wave. Let's go Aired Hamilton
do it. No complies with Ray Barbie. I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
That's it. What dates?

Speaker 7 (42:04):
We're gonna try to get the record for the highest
flight for a concert.

Speaker 6 (42:07):
So Ray's gonna play out stuff like that.

Speaker 7 (42:10):
But what's exciting twenty twenty seven Dogtown on the z
Boys movie documentary is twenty five years old, So.

Speaker 6 (42:16):
In January, we're gonna be going January, we're gonna be.

Speaker 7 (42:19):
Going to They moved a sundance festival now to Bowlder, Colorado,
so we're gonna go out there.

Speaker 6 (42:24):
We take our motor home.

Speaker 7 (42:25):
Out, might set up a skate ramp and hopefully it's
not snowing down in Denver.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
Area right and re release is.

Speaker 7 (42:31):
Gonna be April of twenty twenty seven around the world
and stuff. So Sony Pitchers we're working with them right
now to get that done. And WSL we're gonna be
going over the Pipe Masters December eighth to the twentieth,
So we'll be over there on the north shore of
a Wahoo.

Speaker 6 (42:45):
If you have a house, right, what's that?

Speaker 2 (42:47):
Yeah, like a big house.

Speaker 6 (42:48):
House right on the beach. And then but the waves.

Speaker 7 (42:52):
That's they've moved pipe to February for about three years
and they're bringing it back the original.

Speaker 6 (42:57):
Time, which is December to get the pipe waves and stuff.
So looking forward to that.

Speaker 2 (43:02):
Yep, all right. What keeps the warp Tour going?

Speaker 4 (43:05):
I mean, because man, it is a labor you guys
go all over. I mean there's great bands like water Tower,
and there's so many people being featured and aren't being featured.
But man, what an undertake it is. So you can
just sell shoes and not worry about it.

Speaker 6 (43:17):
You wouldn't believe it a concert that they would buy shoes.
We I designed special shoes. We sold over two.

Speaker 7 (43:24):
Thousand pairs in Long Beach. I mean, it's amazing that
people carrying around. We got a nice bathroom and stuff.
But they buy, they buy, you know, they love collectible
things and vans. Warped Tour I did it for twenty
four or twenty five years. It was forty stops in
the US. Sometimes we did fifteen.

Speaker 6 (43:40):
Well death, it was traveling on a bus for twenty
four years. It was gnarly.

Speaker 7 (43:46):
Now we took five years off. We said twenty fifth verse,
we're done. And then Asomniak called us two years ago
and said we'd like to bring the Vans Warped Tour back.
So we had five years to rest up, and Kevin Lyman,
the founder myself, Van says, okay, so now it's three
stops lash your five stops this year with Mexico and
hand added in, and but it still.

Speaker 6 (44:04):
Gets close to half a million people. Yeah, you know, so.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
A lot of people wearing those basketball jerseys when I
was rolling in pretty cool merch. You guys made this
year for it.

Speaker 6 (44:12):
So anyway, they're a great partner. We're really glad to
have it back.

Speaker 7 (44:15):
I didn't think we have the energy to go back again,
but it's kind of get you going. And all the
stage managers are all from the old Vans Warped Tour
and just a it's an amazing it's an amazing thing.

Speaker 2 (44:25):
We can all be as gracious and loving as Steve Man.
That's right, I mean, what a host. Hey, football's back,
isn't it. I fall back footballs back less than a
week away. Got our first preseason Well last night we
had a Hall of Fame game Carson Beck and Little
Georgia Georgia check showdown. Got us rolling.

Speaker 4 (44:43):
Want you want to take one of your fancy Van's
planes that looks like a shoot at East Lansing, Michigan.
I've got a Toledo versus Michigan state game with your
name on it.

Speaker 2 (44:54):
So againful that time of year, Steve, we can sign
up for the Fiji trip at the Van's retail stores.
That's kind coming up.

Speaker 6 (45:01):
Okay, yep, so that'll be a good one and stuff.

Speaker 2 (45:03):
Get on a plane and go to Montreal to check
out the Warped Tour.

Speaker 6 (45:06):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (45:06):
Hey, I wanted to pass on just My mother of
ninety six years passed.

Speaker 6 (45:10):
Away about three weeks ago. She was a great lady.

Speaker 7 (45:12):
Her name was Dolly, and I just want to have
a shadow for my mom' best mother ever.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
Doll, God bless Dolly, Dolly van dorn.

Speaker 7 (45:20):
Yeap, my brothers and sisters, everybody, you know, we're thinking
of her.

Speaker 6 (45:23):
All the time. But she was the first store manager.
She was an.

Speaker 7 (45:27):
Accountant for the company, and she had five kids. Talking
about a great lady in the early days.

Speaker 6 (45:31):
Family Lee Dolly, that's it.

Speaker 2 (45:35):
What a wonderful thing. The great Steve Van Dort, what
a family.

Speaker 4 (45:40):
Thank you as much as they've given to Southern California
in our culture, let alone the Petrolsen Money Show and
Great Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
We got another hour and a half.

Speaker 4 (45:49):

and we will return with prizes, baseball talk.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
And great sports talk all the way until Sports Talk five.

Speaker 4 (46:05):
