were an absolute pleasure. It was a really cool band
to have, and they really performed and it was a

great diversion during every break, and we played a lot
of them on the air. Ronnie had the sound going
and they sounded great. So thank you to water Tower
and Kenny from water Tower and how great they were.
And Steve Van Dorn a great host, and Dave Weese
for slapping it all together. Of course for the people

coming out, there were some real ogs there. I mean
real ogs that couldn't really be celebrated in the moment, Matt,
because even though it was a three and a half
hour show.

We had a lot to do, yeah, a lot of giveaways.
Like you said, we had the live music, and water
Tower wanted to take up every second of the break
like they wanted to work and they wanted to play. Yeah,
I mean they were playing multiple songs. So between that,
we had a hundred bucks cash, We had one hundred
dollars gas card. We had tickets to Dodgers Giants every
single break, so a lot of pieces were moving.

There was a lot going on. But I do I
want to acknowledge that Reggae Chris was there.

Fantastic to see him with the Hello.

Kitty backpack and smiling and having a great time as always.
It was great to see reggae Chris Solo Sports was there,
although he's a little bit more of a regular still.

Chuck the Asian who we always see. Teverley was there.
That was the big one. Had not seen her in
a long time. Out there. Gonzo was there.

He was a big winner with his ticket.

Yeah, they were all sitting at the same table together.
It was was wonderful to see them all. Then a

and he pointed at himself. Barbecue's Galore Hendry Barbecue Isle,
a barbecue star being his son Speedy Cash. Uh, it
really was the Carls Jr. The Carl Junior truck was
great truck.

Steve Van Dorn slaving over the gray the grill with
the hot dogs, the Hoffey hot dogs, like everybody really
pitched in yogurt Land, trying to keep everybody cool. Is
he came out? Uh, it was, it was. And look,
there were a lot of great things, a lot of
great things to come out, but the grabbing hands, as
you like to call them, pee when they something they

weren't supposed to grab. Yeah, that was a moment and
we were not able to wit we did not witness it,
and no, and the woman who had the grabbing hands
affect her vans that were handed to her. God bless
your daughter for recked because she was distraught. She was
trying to get my attention. We're in the middle of
the segment, and I was like, hey, give me a
second here, you know, I'm we're in the middle of.

Says, this is what happens when you spend the previous
three hours of the show poking at your father and
asking when are you going to be able to speak?

You know. So then finally it's the very end of
this sideline reporter that keeps telling you, listen, I got something.

And Callie had been poking at me. I mean CALLI
thinks when she comes to the show that it's the
Petro Show, Petro's and Money and Callie Show. Like she's
going to go on and be able to speak.

People do respond to her, they do like doubt.

But you know that is not you know, I mean,
she's not in the union.

number of minutes.

old running around with all the creepy radio listeners and
the grabbing hands. We have to keep her up on
the stage. Ruby or Laila Cats wasn't there to watch
her this year, so anyway, it was what it was.
But in the very last segment, I said, Okay, you're

going to get to talk. Think of something to talk about,
and then we started and then she started like trying
to bully away on the air right away. And it's
a lot like the Boy who Cried Wolf Matt. It's
like fool me once, shame on me, but fool me twice.
You're not gonna you know what I'm saying.

I know what you're saying now, still doing that one
twenty years.

Later, she called out a guy in the crowd, and
apparently that guy really bonked. I mean, I'm sure he
had a few drinks and I gave him a skateboard
deck and he was happy. But I didn't know that
he really that.

Was a real snatching, like he know. I had multiple
people come up to me that said they saw it
and that was cool at Cali to call it out.
That it was not cool that that dude snatched those
shoes from earth.

I love I think at the time we both recognized
the exact same thing and had uh, the natural reaction
that both of us would have. I recognized that we
had been slaving outside for three and a half hours
in the sun with a band putting on the show
of the year, and in one fell swoop, my eleven

year old had stolen the show once again, no doubt,
uh and uh. And I explained that to my wife
when we got home. The very lady, that woman, that
wispy woman.

She comes to everything.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Yeah, she's very light. And she came up to me
at the end and explained the situation and said that
she got bonked. And then I felt kind of bad
that I gave the uh the guy that bunked her
escape or deck, which is kind of nicer than the
shoes I feel.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
That was the van's Steve van Dorn face weird shaped
like a van skateboard deck. I flipped him a freedom
found re hat because everybody kind of started it got uncomfortable,
like everyone was him and let's listen, like.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
They all beat Richard Ramire, they were gonna beat him.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
So I was like, oh, here, take this this guy's
fine shoes.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
That ended up being the moment of the remote that
the grabbing hands with my daughter Kelly, who I jettisoned
uh to the island of Kwaitey on Sunday morning.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Very listen, I don't like what you did out there.
I'm sending you to Hawaii.

Can we just listen real quick because she is so

Like that's she is not like she was very polite,
sir kindly returned the shoes, and I'm like, God, she is.

From a different up she is from a different world. Obvious.

It was. It was a wonderful moment. I'm happy the
woman because again she was trying to get my attention
and we were in the last segment of the show.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
You know, That's the thing. It's like I wanted to
I wanted to spend five minutes talking about reggae, Chris
and Gonzo and everybody. But I mean it was a
fast moving show with a lot of dishes to wash,
a lot of stuff to give away, a live band.
I wanted to show Gonzo some love and all that
different stuff, and we just didn't have as much time
to do that stuff because the show was so packed.
(12:50):
Sean Green did two segments and he was wonderful. A
big thank you to him. He was a BANDDRN and
Henrik and it was packed with Yeah, we had a
lot of stuff and Vasse had to come on with
the latest Dodger information because the Dodgers are struggling. You
had to do your top story to tell everybody how
they're supposed to feel about this losing streak. I don't
know if that's changed.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
I feel like it worked. I feel like I don't
remember what my message was or how they were supposed
to feel, but I you know.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
I remember it. Your message was times are great and
you're spoiled and you should be able to wear a
ten game losing streak or whatever on your chest.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Yeah, the decade of the ninth time, we are living
large right now Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
After losing a series to Arizona. If that message still
stands or if that message much like some others, I
hope it will crumble like a sand castle.

We will have a film noir corner later today and
David Vass will join us from Dodger Stadium, so we
will have great sports talk content for everybody.

Look, the show is cool because people show up and
the show means something to them, blind people, disabled people,
family people, old people, young people, people that were young
when they started listening and they're old now, people that
were really young when they started listening in their middle
age now. And why the show has been able to
keep going, I hold people's interests is very subjective, but

we sure are very grateful that. And Tim Kates was
around doing everything, and our crew with the stream, and
Ricky and Wacko and social media, Matt and Oscar, other photographers,
everybody was working really hard out in the very hot
sun as a great tribute to our listeners. And you
know what the listeners show up. It's free food, it's
(14:41):
free drinks. Of course, the prizes are free, free ice cream, yogurt,
all the different things that were happening. It's a tribute
to our listeners, and Dave Weese does a great job
putting that together and making it nice for all the
listeners we don't.

Know much like like Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers Fan Appreciation Day,
they usually do it at the end of the year
and they have basically thousands of giveaways and yeah, dogs
are like three dollars and it's.

All the different Appreciation Day. We don't charge thousands of
dollars to listen to great sports talk throughout the year.
That's like you don't get like a huge petres and
money season ticket package and tax right off the ten
thousand dollars that it costs are great sports talk is free.
Great sports talk, and then we throw a big ass

free party at the end of the year with a
bunch of prizes. So it is understanding how the grabbing
hands can get can grab all they can. But our
Fan Appreciation Day is a lot more appreciative because nobody
loves the fans more than great Sports Talk. That's true.
We got a lot on the schedule. Dodgers scooble pitching

tonight against the Kansas City Royals with cheese, the Chargers
and Texans. Matt's gonna leave in the middle of the
week and do that game five o'clock kickoff a half
I between the Chargers and the Texans and Matt out
the big party. There's a baseball event at the Ford Dealer,

Yeah, gallpin Ford, they are celebrating their eightieth anniversary and
they do know how to put on a party. I've
been out there with freaking Evil Canevil and Shelby and
they know how to do it. At gallpin Ford. Right
up the four o five at Rosco, they clean out
the lot and they put together a big to do.
Then it's an opportunity for you to meet two time

nine am Food Games and again it is this Saturday,
nine am Food Games. Like I said, they shut it
down and make it like a carnival atmosphere. Also, they'll

Instead, there is a bit of a I don't know

But how did the Dodgers go from sixty seven and
thirty eight in darn near fourteen games up in the
division to just winning three of their next thirteen, three

and ten over their last thirteen games. And everybody is
pretty much saying, players, people that are around the team,
and even some members of the media, we've lived this before.
This is nothing new. This is a team that's played
into November or deep October. In the last two seasons,
they've won the World Series. They have climbed the mountains,

stood atop that mountain, they have had parades. It is understandable,
as you would routinely point out about this time of
the year, or you would regularly ask the players that
come on, are.

We in it? We have you know, in the dog Days.
We have a Dog Days of Summer film nowir Corner
coming up in the very next hour. Are we in
the dog Days? I would say, for sure, man? And
that's what people say.

Well, you know, the Dodgers, it's hard. It's one hundred
and sixty two games, Like it's very hard to get
up for one hundred and sixty two games every single season,
especially when you are up fourteen games in your division
and you have just won each of your series. Coming
out of the All Star Break, you knock off the

Yankees two out of three at Yankee Stadium, feeling really good.
Maybe it's understandable you let your foot off the gas
a little bit so in doing some digging. And yet
you know, we brought this up at the at the
Vance Summer Tour stop on Friday Fields. Is you know
they lost seven games in a row last year, and
they closed the season on a ridiculous hot streak, winning
(26:43):
I think it was thirteen of their final fifteen before
they went into the postseason. It still wasn't enough to
get them out of the wild card round, but they
made easy work of the Reds, and they you know,
managed to not have to get back to Philadelphia for
a game five, and then they swept the Brewers, so whatever,
everything was fine. You could argue that nine times out
of ten, a team.

That goes down, I remember May gains the.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Two to Toronto loses the World Series with two games
in Toronto.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
You're right, I mean, but I would say I remember
feeling a sense of relief and people feeling at all
as well, type of Kevin Bacon vibe when the Dodgers
finished the way they did.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Yeah, exactly, they all. It's you want a little bit
of excitement, you need a little bit of adversity, you know,
your coast to a championship?
Speaker 4 (27:29):
And is that what I want? Is that what you're
I know?
Speaker 2 (27:33):
I mean, I think the recipe for winning is you know,
oh yeah, the UCLA game wasn't for that three point
six seconds. I don't know, you know that wakes you up.
There's always that one game that that maybe goes to overtime,
or there's something that happens along the way that they
point to and they say that was that's.

The adversity we overcame that gave us the championship medal.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Right, So is this it? Here's the thing, the idea
that these guys are in their mid thirties and they're
just gonna flip this switch when September comes or whatever
October comes. They've just they've played an extra month of
baseball compared to everybody else, and that's two years going now.
Not to mention all the playoff series, all the stress,

as Dave would say, it's.

Not the innings.

It's the stressful inning. Stressful innings, that's right. There's been
a lot of those, a lot of those because it's
the postseason. So maybe it's taken their toll. And this
is just part and parcel with what the Dodgers do
year in and year out, and they win the division
every year and they make a run in the playoffs
every year. But here's what I found since twenty seventeen.

You know this, if this keeps up, the Dodgers are
not a flip the switch team. They are not a
Oh when October comes, we just turn it on. No,
they have consistently been since they made the World Series
in twenty seventeen, ending that drought since nineteen eighty eight
and getting to the Fall Classic. They have consistently been

either the top team or one of the top teams
in baseball.

And are overwhelming favorites.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Yeah, and they still are. Yeah. Like you said, there's
still the not just favorite, but a prohibitive overwhelming favorite
to win.

That's why I'm so confused as to how I'm supposed
to feel.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
That I can't speak to I'm just spitting some numbers.
I'm spitting some numbers out here.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
I'm I'm supposed to interpret the numbers and then come
up with my own feeling. I'm also so yeah, I
don't want to do that.

Yeah, you can do that. Twenty seventeen, they finished with
the best record in baseball. The following year was one
of the few stumbles, sixth best record in baseball, yet
they managed to make it to the World Series, where
the Red Sox, led by Mookie Betts, were the prohibited favorite,
and they made easy work of the Dodgers. In that

twenty eighteen World Series. Twenty nineteen best record in the
National League's second best in baseball twenty twenty best record
in baseball twenty twenty one, second best record, but one
hundred and six wins and only to the one hundred
and seven win San Francisco Giants twenty twenty two. Best
record in baseball twenty twenty three, one one hundred games,

second best record twenty twenty four. Best record twenty twenty
five was the outlier this last year, and I think
the recency bias has led to so many of us
pointing to this and saying, look, they just did it
last year. They flipped the switch and they were a
wild card team, and they made easy work.

Of the rets. They didn't.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
That's all they did was dominate. They would always dominate.
They don't. They don't coast and flip a switch. That
is not the team that they are. This is a
team that dominates the regular season, that finishes with the
best record that they can say it doesn't matter home
wild card. That was a to me, that was a
one off last year. Because of these specific circumstances that
(30:50):
last year presented that the Brewers in the Phillies simply
had the better record, and they decided to tell us, well,
you know, we're gonna find out, maybe not having the
time off is gonna be good for us. And you
always kind of them into that divisional round a little rusty,
and we'd experienced so much of that, you know, failure.
I don't think they use the word failure, but a
little bit rusty and you'd lose them the divisional round
to the Padres, to the Diamondbacks to the Nationals and

all of those issues that they had, And that was
how they painted last year's run that maybe this will
be good for us. So will they be fine? They
have played the extra two months, cut them some slack,
slack cut get them into a playoff series with Trek Skouble,
Yoshi Yamamoto, Blake Snell and even maybe Otani on the mound,

and who the hell is going to have any issue
with that being the most formidable squad going into the
postseason all as well.

Wait, they're not going to flip a switch.

But it's okay, that's what everyone's pushing right now that
they can flip the switch. But that's not the way
this team is operated. They have all they are being
pushed right now because of the circumstances that we are
in as a flip the switch team?

And I know that people used to experience this, you
know when they're young, you know, and you're you're you're
weak in the hands and you couldn't change a channel

with arthritis, you know, first thing in the morning or
late at night and the pain in your hands. Could

it be that the Dodgers are too old to flip

Man. I don't know, I don't Actually I will not

I would say it doesn't seem like a great idea
to have a team that has played in each of
the last two seasons all the way through the World Series,
to add another series, that being the wild Card, especially
the way the Wildcard be shaping up right now with
a very competitive National League with the Padres, the Diamondbacks,
the Phillies, and the Cubs all vine for those wild

card spots. It does seem like a team with a
thirty seven year old Freddy Freeman, a thirty six year
old Max Munci, a beat to hell shoe Otani, the knee,
the bicep, all of that that's going on, a staff
that's been banged up to high hell and glass now
and snell. You want to send those guys out for
an extra start, for two extra games, maybe three if

things go wrong. No, it doesn't like the coasting and flipping.
The switch doesn't line up. You're right, the age is
a big issue. I mean, I don't know what I am, Matt.
I'm hurt yourself staring the mirror. I don't know what
do you see looking back at you?

I don't know, I know. All I know is that
every year seems like it's own one off.

Mookie is a perfect example. He literally hit zero in
the twenty twenty three playoffs, zero zero zero zero four eleven,
and then he had his greatest playoff season as a professional,
even better than the MVP season in Boston in twenty
twenty four as highest ops, the most ribbies, the most homers,

the most walks, the second most hits, and the playoff
before literally zero and last year ended up hitting like
two twenty. Like you're right, each postseason is its own animal.
But one thing that I don't subscribe to is the
idea that because they have this murderer's row of starters
that they all that they expect to be back. So's

deep that Tyler Glassnew is not even gonna be able
to crack the rotation that I had to figure out
what he is best served as as a longman? As
an eighth? Do you want him closing because of his
super cool, laid back dude attitude and the good stuff
is Edwin Diaz gon to be able to hold onto
that after being awfully shaky since he came back from
his surgery. All of that stuff to me, does not hold.

It does seem like this is a team that has
prided itself on this run of NL West Division titles
and runs to the World Series and three World Series
titles in five years as being on top of the
National League, having everything run through Dodger Stadium. That is
how they have operated in the regular season in the past,
not as a well we know what to do when

October rolls around, don't worry about us.

Well? The mentors, they just got a rock star. I
went to the Pavilions. That's our local So I hit
up the Pavilions.

Exactly. It's the fancy grocery store. But it's our local
grocery store. So I got to deal with the fancy.
The mentors went to the Klamath and caught some salmon
and they were grilling that up. So I had to
figure out what pairs well with salmon, and I figured guacamole.
I mean, that's obvious, So made some guacamole. Made Also,

what else pairs with salmon? Fire feta? So I made
a spicy roasted red pepper feta dip as well, and
then went up there. We watched the Dodger game and
ate some dinner and had a nice, nice bit of
time together, and we stressed out a little bit because
he's got young ones that really liked the Dodgers, and

when it looked like they were gonna give it away again,
everyone got a little sideways. Sunday, Swell picked up got
to surf the board I just picked up from JS
when I was down in Ocean Side for a charger camp.
That was nice. Stayed out for a little bit longer
before going up the charger camp, full pads, full two hours,
one V one's, all of that, and then last night
a little bittersweet final PBJ trio show ever. They played

two of our summer tour stops and with Jacks and
Kelly both going off to college, Jacks to Belmont tomorrow
out there in Nashville, Kelly to USC next week. It
was their last ever show. She and Jack's have been
doing shows together for five years, since she was thirteen
years old, so it was kind of fun. A lot

of parents, a lot of Seal Beach got together at
Hennessy's for three hours, packed it one last time with
all the locals four to seven and had ourselves a
little celebration.

Oh that's exciting.

Yeah, at the Hennesses at the Hennesss on Main Street. Yeah,
where they played quite a bit.

Pretty quiet weekend after the show on Friday and Dodger
pre game. Took me a while to get home. When

that concert. Thought it was fantastic. Saturday Dodger, No, the

bit too big of a venue, so prices were depressed

went to the AMC and Burbank and saw Spider Man
finally and enjoyed that. Marissa too, May, by the way,
is aging like fine wine.

No, she's back in the movie. She's dead. I'm not

I was up early, I'll rely to do a little
backyard cleanup before it got too hot. And while I
was out there following the backyard cleanup, I decided to
go for a dip in the pool, which is unusual
because I feel like this this particular summer season, I've
only been in the pool like maybe two or three times,
three times three times, and I feel kind of bad

because I mean, it's hot and we want to be
able to use the pool, and I always they say
in the back of my mind, I'm going to go
this weekend, you know, you know, we pay the pool
man to come every week to service the pool, and
I just we just haven't used it. So I decided
to go for a dip in the pool, and it
was awesome. It was nice and refreshing. I was able
to do a couple of laps in the pool, kind

of do some exercising a little bit.

Got out of the pool.

Felt great, So I went to rause, went to the
CBS adjacent right there in Burbank. I was able to
make it home in time to watch the NFL Hall
of Fame induction ceremony, and I was really moved by
the speeches on the podium there, especially Drew Brees, who
was brilliant and encapsulating his career and closing things out
from Tom Benson Memorials Stadium. Saturday night, we got together
(45:36):
with a family for a nice dinner at Damon's Steakhouse
in Glendale. I had the beef brisket that was absolutely delicious.
It's always good food there at Damon's. Sunday we stayed
indoors all day long in the air conditioned house on
the hottest day of the week, with domestic chores and television.

And that was my weekend.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
Nice and hot. I'm glad you got in the pool
ron me too.

Often we'll use it, might do it tonight.

I took Isabelle and my daughter home after the event
at Friday, So that was Friday. On Saturday, I went
to yoga and I hung around here and then I

Before and after, no, I think I went to yoga,
took a nap, woke up, went and got my tuna melt,
and then came back here and watched bodycam videos and
made the film Noir Corner. Okay, so there's a film
Noir Corner coming up in next hour. So I did that.
And on Sunday, I had to get up really early

and drive my daughter to my parents' house because she
went with most of my family to Kawhite for a vacation,
but me and my wife and my son are still
back here. And so I did that, and then I
went to yoga, and then I went back to sleep,
and then I woke up, and then I took my
wife to the Beach Life restaurant, the Beach Life Grotto
(47:23):
restaurant and in Redondo, which was nice. And then afterwards
Matt we went to Martha's. They opened to Martha's in
Redondo where the Gabby James restaurant used to be. And
then Martha's is like a bougie her Mosa Beach place,
kind of Manhattan border that's been there for a long time,
and they they've opened one here. So I had a

sangria there and then we did some shopping and then
I came home and that was my weekend.

Was it ever discussed you going to Kawai with the
with the family.

Well, this is not a time of year, yes, but
this trip was not planned by us. It was planned
by the younger people in the family, my brother and
his wife, and Fletcher has football. You can't miss a

year for me to leave town with the summer tour

and all the different things happening. So there was discussion,
but I'm not there. I'm here with you.

of them on the air. Ronnie had the sound going
and they sounded great. So thank you to water Tower
and Kenny from water Tower and how great they were.

for slapping it all together. Of course for the people

coming out, there were some real ogs there. I mean
real ogs that couldn't really be celebrated in the moment, Matt,
because even though it was a three and a half
hour show.

We had a lot to do, yeah, a lot of giveaways.
Like you said, we had the live music, and water
Tower wanted to take up every second of the break
like they wanted to work and they wanted to play. Yeah,
I mean they were playing multiple songs. So between that,
we had a hundred bucks cash, We had one hundred
dollars gas card. We had tickets to Dodgers Giants every
single break, so a lot of pieces were moving.

That was the big one. Had not seen her in

He was a big winner with his ticket.

great truck.

Steve Van Dorn slaving over the gray the grill with
the hot dogs, the Hoffey hot dogs, like everybody really
pitched in yogurt Land, trying to keep everybody cool. Is
he came out? Uh, it was, it was. And look,
there were a lot of great things, a lot of
great things to come out, but the grabbing hands, as
you like to call them, pee when they something they

weren't supposed to grab. Yeah, that was a moment and
we were not able to wit we did not witness it,
and no, and the woman who had the grabbing hands
affect her vans that were handed to her. God bless
your daughter for recked because she was distraught. She was
trying to get my attention. We're in the middle of
the segment, and I was like, hey, give me a
second here, you know, I'm we're in the middle of.

three hours of the show poking at your father and
asking when are you going to be able to speak?

thinks when she comes to the show that it's the
Petro Show, Petro's and Money and Callie Show. Like she's
going to go on and be able to speak.

she's not in the union.

the grabbing hands. We have to keep her up on

But in the very last segment, I said, Okay, you're

and then we started and then she started like trying
to bully away on the air right away. And it's
a lot like the Boy who Cried Wolf Matt. It's
like fool me once, shame on me, but fool me twice.

Later, she called out a guy in the crowd, and
apparently that guy really bonked. I mean, I'm sure he
had a few drinks and I gave him a skateboard
deck and he was happy. But I didn't know that

Was a real snatching, like he know. I had multiple
people come up to me that said they saw it
and that was cool at Cali to call it out.
That it was not cool that that dude snatched those
shoes from earth.

of the year, and in one fell swoop, my eleven

year old had stolen the show once again, no doubt,
uh and uh. And I explained that to my wife
when we got home. The very lady, that woman, that
wispy woman.

She comes to everything.

Yeah, she's very light. And she came up to me
at the end and explained the situation and said that
she got bonked. And then I felt kind of bad
that I gave the uh the guy that bunked her
escape or deck, which is kind of nicer than the
shoes I feel.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
That was the van's Steve van Dorn face weird shaped
like a van skateboard deck. I flipped him a freedom
found re hat because everybody kind of started it got uncomfortable,
like everyone was him and let's listen, like.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
They all beat Richard Ramire, they were gonna beat him.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
So I was like, oh, here, take this this guy's
fine shoes.

That ended up being the moment of the remote that
the grabbing hands with my daughter Kelly, who I jettisoned
uh to the island of Kwaitey on Sunday morning.

Very listen, I don't like what you did out there.

It was. It was a wonderful moment. I'm happy the
woman because again she was trying to get my attention
and we were in the last segment of the show.

You know, That's the thing. It's like I wanted to
I wanted to spend five minutes talking about reggae, Chris
and Gonzo and everybody. But I mean it was a
fast moving show with a lot of dishes to wash,
a lot of stuff to give away, a live band.
I wanted to show Gonzo some love and all that
different stuff, and we just didn't have as much time
to do that stuff because the show was so packed.

Sean Green did two segments and he was wonderful. A
big thank you to him. He was a BANDDRN and
Henrik and it was packed with Yeah, we had a
lot of stuff and Vasse had to come on with
the latest Dodger information because the Dodgers are struggling. You
had to do your top story to tell everybody how
they're supposed to feel about this losing streak. I don't
know if that's changed.

I feel like it worked. I feel like I don't
remember what my message was or how they were supposed
to feel, but I you know.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
I remember it. Your message was times are great and
you're spoiled and you should be able to wear a
ten game losing streak or whatever on your chest.

Yeah, the decade of the ninth time, we are living
large right now Los Angeles.

After losing a series to Arizona. If that message still
stands or if that message much like some others, I
hope it will crumble like a sand castle.

we sure are very grateful that. And Tim Kates was
around doing everything, and our crew with the stream, and
Ricky and Wacko and social media, Matt and Oscar, other photographers,
everybody was working really hard out in the very hot
sun as a great tribute to our listeners. And you
know what the listeners show up. It's free food, it's

free drinks. Of course, the prizes are free, free ice cream, yogurt,
all the different things that were happening. It's a tribute
to our listeners, and Dave Weese does a great job
putting that together and making it nice for all the

they usually do it at the end of the year
and they have basically thousands of giveaways and yeah, dogs

stood atop that mountain, they have had parades. It is understandable,
as you would routinely point out about this time of
the year, or you would regularly ask the players that

up for one hundred and sixty two games every single season,
especially when you are up fourteen games in your division
and you have just won each of your series. Coming
out of the All Star Break, you knock off the
(26:19):
Yankees two out of three at Yankee Stadium, feeling really good.
Maybe it's understandable you let your foot off the gas
a little bit so in doing some digging. And yet
you know, we brought this up at the at the
Vance Summer Tour stop on Friday Fields. Is you know
they lost seven games in a row last year, and
they closed the season on a ridiculous hot streak, winning
(26:43):
I think it was thirteen of their final fifteen before
they went into the postseason. It still wasn't enough to
get them out of the wild card round, but they
made easy work of the Reds, and they you know,
managed to not have to get back to Philadelphia for
a game five, and then they swept the Brewers, so whatever,
everything was fine. You could argue that nine times out
of ten, a team.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
That goes down, I remember May gains the.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Two to Toronto loses the World Series with two games
in Toronto.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
You're right, I mean, but I would say I remember
feeling a sense of relief and people feeling at all
as well, type of Kevin Bacon vibe when the Dodgers
finished the way they did.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Yeah, exactly, they all. It's you want a little bit
of excitement, you need a little bit of adversity, you know,
your coast to a championship?
Speaker 4 (27:29):
And is that what I want? Is that what you're
I know?
Speaker 2 (27:33):
I mean, I think the recipe for winning is you know,
oh yeah, the UCLA game wasn't for that three point
six seconds. I don't know, you know that wakes you up.
There's always that one game that that maybe goes to overtime,
or there's something that happens along the way that they
point to and they say that was that's.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
The adversity we overcame that gave us the championship medal.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Right, So is this it? Here's the thing, the idea
that these guys are in their mid thirties and they're
just gonna flip this switch when September comes or whatever
October comes. They've just they've played an extra month of
baseball compared to everybody else, and that's two years going now.
Not to mention all the playoff series, all the stress,
(28:14):
as Dave would say, it's.
Speaker 6 (28:16):
Not the innings.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
It's the stressful inning. Stressful innings, that's right. There's been
a lot of those, a lot of those because it's
the postseason. So maybe it's taken their toll. And this
is just part and parcel with what the Dodgers do
year in and year out, and they win the division
every year and they make a run in the playoffs
every year. But here's what I found since twenty seventeen.
(28:37):
You know this, if this keeps up, the Dodgers are
not a flip the switch team. They are not a
Oh when October comes, we just turn it on. No,
they have consistently been since they made the World Series
in twenty seventeen, ending that drought since nineteen eighty eight
and getting to the Fall Classic. They have consistently been
(28:59):
either the top team or one of the top teams
in baseball.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
And are overwhelming favorites.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Yeah, and they still are. Yeah. Like you said, there's
still the not just favorite, but a prohibitive overwhelming favorite
to win.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
That's why I'm so confused as to how I'm supposed
to feel.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
That I can't speak to I'm just spitting some numbers.
I'm spitting some numbers out here.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
I'm I'm supposed to interpret the numbers and then come
up with my own feeling. I'm also so yeah, I
don't want to do that.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Yeah, you can do that. Twenty seventeen, they finished with
the best record in baseball. The following year was one
of the few stumbles, sixth best record in baseball, yet
they managed to make it to the World Series, where
the Red Sox, led by Mookie Betts, were the prohibited favorite,
and they made easy work of the Dodgers. In that
(29:47):
twenty eighteen World Series. Twenty nineteen best record in the
National League's second best in baseball twenty twenty best record
in baseball twenty twenty one, second best record, but one
hundred and six wins and only to the one hundred
and seven win San Francisco Giants twenty twenty two. Best
record in baseball twenty twenty three, one one hundred games,
(30:09):
second best record twenty twenty four. Best record twenty twenty
five was the outlier this last year, and I think
the recency bias has led to so many of us
pointing to this and saying, look, they just did it
last year. They flipped the switch and they were a
wild card team, and they made easy work.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Of the rets. They didn't.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
That's all they did was dominate. They would always dominate.
They don't. They don't coast and flip a switch. That
is not the team that they are. This is a
team that dominates the regular season, that finishes with the
best record that they can say it doesn't matter home
wild card. That was a to me, that was a
one off last year. Because of these specific circumstances that
(30:50):
last year presented that the Brewers in the Phillies simply
had the better record, and they decided to tell us, well,
you know, we're gonna find out, maybe not having the
time off is gonna be good for us. And you
always kind of them into that divisional round a little rusty,
and we'd experienced so much of that, you know, failure.
I don't think they use the word failure, but a
little bit rusty and you'd lose them the divisional round
to the Padres, to the Diamondbacks to the Nationals and
(31:13):
all of those issues that they had, And that was
how they painted last year's run that maybe this will
be good for us. So will they be fine? They
have played the extra two months, cut them some slack,
slack cut get them into a playoff series with Trek Skouble,
Yoshi Yamamoto, Blake Snell and even maybe Otani on the mound,
(31:35):
and who the hell is going to have any issue
with that being the most formidable squad going into the
postseason all as well.
Speaker 4 (31:42):
Wait, they're not going to flip a switch.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
But it's okay, that's what everyone's pushing right now that
they can flip the switch. But that's not the way
this team is operated. They have all they are being
pushed right now because of the circumstances that we are
in as a flip the switch team?
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Could it be?

And I know that people used to experience this, you
know when they're young, you know, and you're you're you're
weak in the hands and you couldn't change a channel
first thing in the morning because your hands are weak.
Then I know it happens, you know, when you're old,
you know, trying to flip the light switch or something
with arthritis, you know, first thing in the morning or
late at night and the pain in your hands. Could
(32:22):
it be that the Dodgers are too old to flip
the switch?
Speaker 2 (32:26):

I mean Freddy Freeman, who plays every day, is seven.
Mookie Betts is old and batting seventh or something.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
He's thirty six, and he's got a bibblehead for the
cut it to one game seven home run. You know,
I don't have money to me and I wouldn't mind
having a bottle head for the bobblehead.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Man. I don't know, I don't Actually I will not
have you defame Moncie. We already have a listener that
calls him obese with every text. Are the Dodgers too old?
Are they old? Too old to flip this?
Speaker 2 (33:00):
I would say it doesn't seem like a great idea
to have a team that has played in each of
the last two seasons all the way through the World Series,
to add another series, that being the wild Card, especially
the way the Wildcard be shaping up right now with
a very competitive National League with the Padres, the Diamondbacks,
the Phillies, and the Cubs all vine for those wild
(33:21):
card spots. It does seem like a team with a
thirty seven year old Freddy Freeman, a thirty six year
old Max Munci, a beat to hell shoe Otani, the knee,
the bicep, all of that that's going on, a staff
that's been banged up to high hell and glass now
and snell. You want to send those guys out for
an extra start, for two extra games, maybe three if
(33:43):
things go wrong. No, it doesn't like the coasting and flipping.
The switch doesn't line up. You're right, the age is
a big issue. I mean, I don't know what I am, Matt.
I'm hurt yourself staring the mirror. I don't know what
do you see looking back at you?
Speaker 4 (33:57):
I don't know, I know. All I know is that
every year seems like it's own one off.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
In every sport.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Mookie is a perfect example. He literally hit zero in
the twenty twenty three playoffs, zero zero zero zero four eleven,
and then he had his greatest playoff season as a professional,
even better than the MVP season in Boston in twenty
twenty four as highest ops, the most ribbies, the most homers,
(34:28):
the most walks, the second most hits, and the playoff
before literally zero and last year ended up hitting like
two twenty. Like you're right, each postseason is its own animal.
But one thing that I don't subscribe to is the
idea that because they have this murderer's row of starters
that they all that they expect to be back. So's
(34:51):
deep that Tyler Glassnew is not even gonna be able
to crack the rotation that I had to figure out
what he is best served as as a longman? As
an eighth? Do you want him closing because of his
super cool, laid back dude attitude and the good stuff
is Edwin Diaz gon to be able to hold onto
that after being awfully shaky since he came back from
his surgery. All of that stuff to me, does not hold.
(35:15):
It does seem like this is a team that has
prided itself on this run of NL West Division titles
and runs to the World Series and three World Series
titles in five years as being on top of the
National League, having everything run through Dodger Stadium. That is
how they have operated in the regular season in the past,
not as a well we know what to do when

October rolls around, don't worry about us.
Speaker 4 (35:43):

A bit of a working weekend with camp going on
right now there with the Chargers, So surfed early up
to camp and then was tasked with the everybody brings

Well? The mentors, they just got a rock star. I
went to the Pavilions. That's our local So I hit
up the Pavilions.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
See now, if I said Pavilions, when I've said Pavilions
over the years, you know what you would do.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Exactly. It's the fancy grocery store. But it's our local
grocery store. So I got to deal with the fancy.
The mentors went to the Klamath and caught some salmon
and they were grilling that up. So I had to
figure out what pairs well with salmon, and I figured guacamole.
I mean, that's obvious, So made some guacamole. Made Also,
(40:17):
what else pairs with salmon? Fire feta? So I made
a spicy roasted red pepper feta dip as well, and
then went up there. We watched the Dodger game and
ate some dinner and had a nice, nice bit of
time together, and we stressed out a little bit because
he's got young ones that really liked the Dodgers, and

when it looked like they were gonna give it away again,
everyone got a little sideways. Sunday, Swell picked up got
to surf the board I just picked up from JS
when I was down in Ocean Side for a charger camp.
That was nice. Stayed out for a little bit longer
before going up the charger camp, full pads, full two hours,
one V one's, all of that, and then last night
a little bittersweet final PBJ trio show ever. They played
(41:02):
two of our summer tour stops and with Jacks and
Kelly both going off to college, Jacks to Belmont tomorrow
out there in Nashville, Kelly to USC next week. It
was their last ever show. She and Jack's have been
doing shows together for five years, since she was thirteen
years old, so it was kind of fun. A lot
(41:22):
of parents, a lot of Seal Beach got together at
Hennessy's for three hours, packed it one last time with
all the locals four to seven and had ourselves a
little celebration.
Speaker 4 (41:30):
Oh that's exciting.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
Yeah, at the Hennesses at the Hennesss on Main Street. Yeah,
where they played quite a bit.
Speaker 4 (41:38):
If somebody would have let me know. Yeah, all right, Kid's.

Pretty quiet weekend after the show on Friday and Dodger
pre game. Took me a while to get home. When
I got home was by myself because the wife and
two of the daughters went to the Meganmaroni concert at
Crypto dot Com Arena, in which they came back and
absolutely loved it. Had the time of their life at
that concert. Thought it was fantastic. Saturday Dodger, No, the

country singer Megan Maroney.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
Oh, MICHAELA. Maroney. I forgot about her with her smirk
two different people by.
Speaker 4 (42:10):
The way, Girl, Sorry, I didn't know Megan Maroney.

She's super famous. I would assume. Yeah, it was sold out,
great crowd. They had a fun time. That's all that matters.
Saturday went and saw a late movie.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
Mean, that's all that matters. Do you have to shell
out a lot of cash?
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Well not really because no, No, she played a little
bit too big of a venue, so prices were depressed
a little bit.
Speaker 5 (42:35):
Yeah, you could probably say that she's probably probably maybe
the Greek would have been better for her. Saturday night,
went to the AMC and Burbank and saw Spider Man
finally and enjoyed that. Marissa too, May, by the way,
is aging like fine wine.

No, I haven't seen it. I haven't seen it.
Speaker 5 (42:52):
No, she's back in the movie. She's dead. I'm not
spoiling anything because she died apparently in one of the
previous Spider Man's The last.
Speaker 4 (42:59):
Movie I saw her and I think was The Wrestler.
I've had a lot of.

Speaker 5 (43:04):
Yeah, I had a lot of questions about what was
happening and why the Hulk all of a sudden was
crossing over with Spider Man and how com Spider.

Okay, I didn't know of this, but Peter Parker's friends
that he grew up with m J and ned they
don't know each other because he had to do like
a memory eraser thing a couple of movies ago. I

It seems like if you just go to this one
as a one off, it's not gonna go so well.

No, and then like half the movie spoiler alert now

No, no, no, I'm gonna say, probably not a big

Again, I didn't know a lot of the stuff that
was happening because you had to watch the previous ones
to kind of understand how you got to this point.

I kept those animals still displayed over there in the
area in downtown Burbank.

Yes, they are nice. Yes, Ronnie How's weekend had a
nice weekend.

Saturday.

I was up early, I'll rely to do a little
backyard cleanup before it got too hot. And while I
was out there following the backyard cleanup, I decided to
go for a dip in the pool, which is unusual
because I feel like this this particular summer season, I've
only been in the pool like maybe two or three times,
three times three times, and I feel kind of bad
(44:47):
because I mean, it's hot and we want to be
able to use the pool, and I always they say
in the back of my mind, I'm going to go
this weekend, you know, you know, we pay the pool
man to come every week to service the pool, and
I just we just haven't used it. So I decided
to go for a dip in the pool, and it
was awesome. It was nice and refreshing. I was able
to do a couple of laps in the pool, kind
(45:10):
of do some exercising a little bit.
Speaker 4 (45:12):
Got out of the pool.
Speaker 8 (45:13):
Felt great, So I went to rause, went to the
CBS adjacent right there in Burbank. I was able to
make it home in time to watch the NFL Hall
of Fame induction ceremony, and I was really moved by
the speeches on the podium there, especially Drew Brees, who
was brilliant and encapsulating his career and closing things out
from Tom Benson Memorials Stadium. Saturday night, we got together
(45:36):
with a family for a nice dinner at Damon's Steakhouse
in Glendale. I had the beef brisket that was absolutely delicious.
It's always good food there at Damon's. Sunday we stayed
indoors all day long in the air conditioned house on
the hottest day of the week, with domestic chores and television.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
And that was my weekend.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
Nice and hot. I'm glad you got in the pool
ron me too.
Speaker 2 (45:58):
Often we'll use it, might do it tonight.
Speaker 4 (46:01):
I'm sitting right here. I feel like the same you
know there? Why And I had a pool.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
I'm sweating over here, Yeah, pool over here.
Speaker 4 (46:15):
I took Isabelle and my daughter home after the event
at Friday, So that was Friday. On Saturday, I went
to yoga and I hung around here and then I
I went to sleep. Oh. I think I had lunch
for myself at the Malaga Cove Market.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
So before or after you slept.
Speaker 4 (46:41):
Before and after, no, I think I went to yoga,
took a nap, woke up, went and got my tuna melt,
and then came back here and watched bodycam videos and
made the film Noir Corner. Okay, so there's a film
Noir Corner coming up in next hour. So I did that.
And on Sunday, I had to get up really early
(47:01):
and drive my daughter to my parents' house because she
went with most of my family to Kawhite for a vacation,
but me and my wife and my son are still
back here. And so I did that, and then I
went to yoga, and then I went back to sleep,
and then I woke up, and then I took my
wife to the Beach Life restaurant, the Beach Life Grotto
(47:23):
restaurant and in Redondo, which was nice. And then afterwards
Matt we went to Martha's. They opened to Martha's in
Redondo where the Gabby James restaurant used to be. And
then Martha's is like a bougie her Mosa Beach place,
kind of Manhattan border that's been there for a long time,
and they they've opened one here. So I had a
(47:44):
sangria there and then we did some shopping and then
I came home and that was my weekend.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
Was it ever discussed you going to Kawai with the
with the family.
Speaker 4 (47:55):
Well, this is not a time of year, yes, but
this trip was not planned by us. It was planned
by the younger people in the family, my brother and
his wife, and Fletcher has football. You can't miss a
week of football, and this is not the time of
year for me to leave town with the summer tour
(48:16):
and all the different things happening. So there was discussion,
but I'm not there. I'm here with you.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Right with football practice. Correct, makes sense?
Speaker 5 (48:30):
Yeah, could have taken your comrades and done the show
from Poipoop Beach.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
Yeah, it's been kind of fun out there.

Last time I was there was when the Lakers beat
the Celtics between Kevin Perkins. Yeah, so it's been a
while since I've been to the island. Yes, I used
to spend a lot of time there. Uh yeah, Hawaii
lines up too. You know it's only one o'clock there
right now. Okay, Well I didn't go, No, you couldn't.

He's got football practice. Let you fourteen football team. I
was going to say, you know you had eighth grade football.

Can't miss a whole week?

Of course, now he says, he screwed up his equilibrium
at Magic Mountain yesterday, and I've met you. He's trying
