Dave Miles Garrett, Mike Trout For those that might not
have seen it on your social media or the AM

the Mike Trout conversation Sarana Mookie Betts and that relationship
and two guys that have been at the absolute pinnacle
of this sport and two guys that have experienced, you know,

some droughts in their seasons, and if you could share
with the people listening that might not have seen it
kind of what what Mike shared with you.

Yeah, Mike Trout was our pregame guest before Saturday's first pitch,
and MOOKI was the one that alerted me in Anaheim
that him and Mike Trout formed a relationship about five
years ago when they were playing for a team USA
and the World Baseball Classic, and ever since then they've
kept in touch and when either one of those guys

have gone through struggles or as they say, the grind
of a season or grind of their careers, they actually
lean on one another when they sent texts and try to,
you know, pick each other up, not just with you know,
technical baseball talk, but it seems like, you know, try
to lift each other's spirits up, confidence up, try to

get each other through whatever they're going through. And in Anaheim,
Muki and Mike Trout spent about twenty minutes behind the
batting cage before first pitch, and you know there there
there's certainly is a deep connection between those two. And
Mike Trout's actually had his first healthy year in three years,
and if you look at his ops, it's in the
(17:09):
top ten in the American League. And there's a case
to be made. I mean, the All Star Game is
not just about who's the best player with the best
first half stats, but we want to see the stars.
And since the game is back in Philadelphia, Mike Trout
expressed to us how much he would love to make
it back to the All Star Game, especially since it

is in Philly.

Sports Dave, Who's got bigger issues right now? Speaking of
Mookie Bets, Mookie or Tucker.
Speaker 8 (17:43):
Well, I'll say this. I would say both have issues
as far as the hitting goes, and Mooki is hitting
under two hundred, but it feels like Mookie Betts is
hitting the ball harder and making a lot more contact,
harder contact than Kyle Tucker is and Mooki ed says
one thing Kyle Tucker doesn't have in this city, and
that's a lot of local credibility considering that he's been

part of three World Series Championship teams. While Kyle Tucker
is basically trying to reintroduce himself to this fan base.
And if you go back to the second half of
last year when he was dealing with a wrist injury,
he's a two thirty hitter and he's a two thirty
hitter this year as well, So you have to wonder
(18:27):
whether or not he's still working through any sort of
lingering effects of that wrist injury from a year ago.
Or did he develop bad habits during that second half
last year trying to compensate for that risk injury. But
there's no two ways about it. We're two weeks into
June and it's hard to ignore the fact that Kyle
(18:49):
Tucker has severely underperformed to this point.
Speaker 7 (18:53):
There's kind of like a I guess the upside to that,
Dave is you would expect baseball as a game of averages,
and they are both really good players that have done
it multiple times in the past, and they'll probably figure
it out. And then you look around the league, and
we were talking about this a little bit earlier. You
see the Braves, you see the Brewers. It feels like
(19:13):
those are two really good teams that are hitting their
stride and beating good teams and putting up numbers, and
they have good pitching. Do you think this is like
maybe more of a Big Three than the Dodgers are
the class of the National League? Or do you still
see it as they just need to figure some things
out and they'll pull away from everybody else.
Speaker 8 (19:34):
Well, I would say the Brazen Phillies along with the Brewers,
if they're able to acquire a big time bat or
even a tered schoolbal I would say those three are
definitely teams that could upset the Dodgers in October. But
talking to people around the league that have played both
(19:54):
the Bravez and the Dodgers, they said there's a huge
drop off between the Braves starting pitching and the Dodgers
starting pitching. They're The way they have expressed it to
me is that the Dodgers are still the better team
when it comes to them in the Atlanta Braves. Now,
the Phillies have started to play better, but we just
saw them at Dodgers Stadium, and I wouldn't say that
(20:15):
lineup is is overly impressive. They swing at almost everything,
So I would still say that Dodgers are a sizeable
margin ahead of those other teams. Just getting the feedback
from players that have played against both teams.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
How are the Dodgers so far ahead with so many
guys underperforming that are that are a big deal key players?
Speaker 8 (20:36):
Yeah? You know one thing that hasn't been talked about
Petros is they're starting pitching, and especially they're starting pitching.
As of late, their era is just about under two
with the emergence of Roki Sasaki and Justin Robleski I
mean outside of the mt she and Klunker yesterday, they
have been the best starting staff as a group in
(20:57):
all of Major League Baseball since the beginning of the year.
And when I say that, it means that they're going
deeper into games. They have logged more innings as a
starting staff in the National League than any other starting staff.
And what that does is lessen the burden on the bullpen.
And when you're able to lessen the burden on the bullpen,
(21:18):
you don't expose weak links in your bullpen, and you
can overcome missing an Edwin Diaz when you have your
starters going six or seven innings virtually every game, and
it also keeps them fresher. So there's a huge chain
effect when your starters go that deep into the game,
and not just one or two of them, but the
(21:38):
entire staff. And that's been the biggest reason why even
with Mookie Bets, Will Smith, Kyle Tucker at times, Otani
and Freeman underperforming spend their pitching and their defense that
have afforded them as large of a lead that they
have in this division. Not to mention the division's not
that great either. Petros Hey, Dave is look guy was

still a family on the hill.

Well, there you go, Andy, Andy Paez had had an
OPS north of a thousand for a while there, you know,
kind of for the first three or so weeks. And
is he backing off a little or is he doing
something that he wasn't doing earlier? I mean, I know
he's hitting under two hundred here of the month of June.
It's only like eight games or six games or something.

But have you noticed anything different from kind of what
he was doing when he was the best hitter in
all of baseball.
Speaker 8 (22:35):
No, he's still doing it. He's still doing it, but
he's not a secret anymore. Teams are game planning for
him now, especially since he's hitting right behind Otani. And
he's still leading all of baseball with fifty three RBIs.
So he's still really good. I don't think we could
expect him to be the best hitter in baseball all
season long, but he's still really good. And him and

Munsey deserve to be starters at the All Star Game
for the National League. I would say there's three locks, Paz, Munsey,
and of course so Tani. But Pa has still been
really good.

We don't know what the weather's going to be like
in Pittsburgh tomorrow, but we will have doctor Neil Elatrosh

Well, you know about schoolbl right. He threw his first
rehab game just a couple of days ago. So he's
on the way back and Snell is throwing eighty miles
an hour from about sixty five feet after undergoing that
nanoscool procedure. So it is doing what was intended, and
that's getting these guys back and giving them the range

of motion that they wouldn't have if they would have
done the standard remove the bone hips and Snell's procedure
was much more involved than Schoobles was, so that makes
what he's doing even more impressive. Evan Phillips another guy
can be grateful to the great doctor Neil Elatrosh for
performing his Tommy John procedure and made his second rehab
(24:38):
appearance and is on his way back to the Dodger
bullpen within the next three or four weeks. And Tommy Edmund,
the twenty four NLCSMVP who had right ankle surgery, not
at the hands of doctor Elatrosh, I don't believe, but
he's on his way back as well. He's got thirty
at bats, so he needs twenty more at bats to

be ready to go. And he's played third base, he's
played left field, he's played second base, he's played center
field for Oklahoma City. So starting to look like Tommy
Edman again.

and we did some some weightlifting like you said, Yeah,
we did a little uh single alarm press and uh.

made a big deal of a.

Little Romanian deadlift. Some already els not today, not today,
but you got to keep that lower back strong. You
know what I'm saying. I was Benning and the knees good.

We heard a lot about Ben Herbert last year or
two years ago really when he came in his season.

Uh is it different than kind of what you're used to.

We hear about the finishers and the fourth quarter finishers,
kind of what's your experience been so far?

Now, it's been awesome. It's it's definitely a different in
the best way.

I think, just uh, just his approach every day and
his energy and his attitude of just greatness and uh
coming in with a consistent attitude of what we have
as our standard. I think that's huge, especially coming from
our strength staff and all our coaches and players, but
holding each other accountable.

That it's a it's a it's in the best way.
So I love it. I love it. How'd you end
up here? Uh?
Speaker 7 (28:33):
Free agent? You had a lot of choices. Yeah, it
seemed like they didn't want to let you get out
of the building.
Speaker 14 (28:37):
Yeah, no, I mean, uh, yeah, I was a free
agent and I came in on my visit and uh,
the coaches. Man, I was, Uh, I feel like I
struck gold that I honestly, the coaches. I met with
Coach Harball right away in the morning, had a great
you know conversation with him to start the day, and
(28:59):
and with the coaches like coach McDaniel and uh Oline,
coach Butch Berry and a lot of other coaches too.
And obviously, you know, I've had a previous relationship with
Rashan and even even I've known Justin too over the
years and coming out in the same draft class too.
So uh, there's a lot of thought going into the
visit at the same time, and you know, I just
felt like, uh, after that day, that whole visit, I
(29:22):
didn't want to be anywhere else, and uh, I don't
want to get it done. And we got it done
that night and got the sign the next day. So
but man, no, it's it's been a blast. And everything
we've we've spoken throughout my visit that day, and we've
we've brought it to life. And you know, I think
just like how the coaches and and how they put
the plant together and and and develop us through this
(29:44):
period of otias, through phase one, two and now going
into three, we've had nothing, but you know, great learning
lessons throughout, you know, obviously introducing a new offense for
all of us, but also too of just seeing where
we're at and continuously making progress and making gains.

It's in the run, game, play.

Pass or even in pass pro twos in my book
of an alignment. So but no man have had a great,
great intro into this year. So I'm very excited for
the season.

I'm sure you feel this way, Tyler Badish joining us
right now the Chargers Center. I don't. I'm sure you
feel this way since high school. I don't know if
passed that. But the personality of an offensive line is
is always very unique, always very different, and it varies
from team to team. Uh do you get to know

that yet? The identity of this group? I obviously we
know the pieces and how cool they all are, but
what when do you know what that identity and personality
is like? And what are your impressions? Just to start out,
before you guys have really gotten down and dirty to
the business of the season.

I mean, I honestly, I feel like you know, when
I came here on my visit, Like how I said before,
I really felt like the energy and what they wanted
to accomplish, and like obviously like the style of play
and standard, but even like you know, talking with coach
Harball and just what he represents and like a football guru,
you know, like just having that intellectrical knowledge of just
you know, football and just his like passion and his

approach to every day and making it a great day
and continuously getting better and better. And you know, I
really think you know, having that collective energy throughout the
whole staff and even obviously with players, and I think
when you put that, you know, on the field, I
feel like you really bring it to life, and even
through like the lifting and conditioning through phase one and
(31:33):
phase two with like the position coaches and really like
kind of like putting it out on the field and
seeing obviously wherever one's starting point is and then continuously
progress obviously in each position group. But I feel like
it's really like when you kind of obviously in the
meeting rooms you have to continuously get like the dialogue
and information, But when you really bring it to life
on the field, I feel like that's when you really
feel it and you can really feel it like come together,

and that's where like great communication throughout like teammates and
coaches staff.

I think it really and bring it to.
Speaker 7 (32:00):
Life justin Herbert was at the presser last week and
he said that it took one or two snaps for
him to realize that this was going to be a
good connection between you and him. What what happened in
those one to two snaps? What what kind of can
you explain, you know, maybe kind of what he was
sharing and what you felt and what goes in to
having that relationship with a quarterback.
Speaker 14 (32:20):
Yeah, honestly, like it felt the same too, because I said,
like it was right after, you know, the first day
when we took a few snaps, it was like it
was very crisp. It wasn't a lot of like it
was a it was a feel thing and we you know,
we naturally just had a great, you know, great exchange
with the under center and everything like that, but also
with our calls and like it's just very like professional
(32:42):
and it's and it's so cool too because I think,
you know what I think the first thing I said,
Ad just went out here. I mean, can you believe
it's Earty year seven? Because we both came out in
the same draft class and we went. We have the
same agency, so we got to communicate throughout that period
and whenever we had a game against each other, we
always talk after the game, catching up, seeing how each
other were and everything like that throughout our career. And

but it's it's been a blast every day, honestly, and uh,
it has been.

It's it's come really.
Speaker 14 (33:07):
Natural and I think, you know, just part of our
career up to this point and you know, what's what's
our common goal and everything like that, and it's a
it's a I feel like I'm really blessed honestly to
have a to have a quarterback like him. And again,
like we have fun every day and it's like do
you know constant always like you know, putting putting greatness

on the field and what he can do and and
what he's shown like day after day, and uh, it's
it's a lot of fun working with him.

I can't say enough great things. You mentioned you had
a prior relationship with Rashaan. Is that just like a
big ten thing or like what what's what? What do
you guys stick together at the combine and the draft process?
Like what was your prior relationship with him?

It was so funny because I think it was I
remember when he was at Northwestern and everyone know who
Sean was. Like when we were I think it was
like my uh second to last year, my last year
in college, and uh, we didn't really know each other
at that point, but we knew of each other. And uh,
when he started training in the off season, we went
to the same we went to the same group from
the same person, and uh we have to meet and

we've been training in the off season together for the
last five years and stuff. So I got to know
him and uh even Trey Pipkins and uh a lot
of the guys. And I think that's the cool part too.
It's because it's like when I came here in for agency,
like it felt like, you know, you always wanted to like,
you know, if that opportunity came to play with the
guys like maybe you knew or or like even like
justin like what it would be like, you know, when
(34:34):
you're in that free AGENC process, it would be like
to play with these guys and you got the opportunity
to what would it feel like or look like? And
we have to like really manifest that right now, and uh,
what what do we want to be and what standards
do we want to have and and to continuously uh,
you know, progress throughout this like even ota period, like
like having one step at a time, but it's kind
of stant like you know, having fun every day doing
(34:56):
what you'd love to do and uh, but having guys
like that where you worked you in a year out
and and built camaraderie of like just the knowledge of
play throughout the years, and it's it's really fun, honestly.

When we think of Wisconsin football and and old lineman,
I don't know, maybe I'm just pitching hole in you here,
but I think they're like drinking beer and like eating
a lot of cheese and stuff like is that is that?

Like, is do you miss the cheese? Do you miss
the is the beer drinking? To Saale? Like what what
is it about those Wisconsin old linemen? Because you're scattered
all throughout the league? There's a million of you? Am

Yeah, I think, Uh, the biggest part when I was
there was the old the old line culture and I've
got to be a part of like several but that
one was very much, uh you know, just the culture
of old line that have been in the NFL.

And we got to have a lot.
Speaker 14 (35:51):
Of the alumni come back when I was there, and
there's a lot of traditions, and you're right, yeah, there
was a there's some beer drinking for sure, but at
the same time, there was a lot it was a
great camaraderie in a great brotherhood of the chemistry and
the culture as in the old line room. And you know,
at the time, I had Joe Rudolph as my line
coach and and we really honestly watched a lot of
(36:14):
the old lines that came before us and what they've
done or and and and what they've accomplished in uh
in regards of going to the Rose Bowl or like
all that, the Big Ten Championships and all that stuff.
And we got to meet like guys like Travis Frederick
and like Joe Thomas when I was in college.

And and it was.
Speaker 14 (36:32):
So crazy because then when I got drafted by the Cowboys,
I was watching ready like cowboy tape with Travis Frederick there.
So and you got to meet you know, Zach Martin
and Tyren Smith my first year there, and and Travis
as well when he would come and and and got
to be a part of that culture even though you're
watching it on tape. So I got to, you know,
be a part of a lot of you know, great
(36:52):
cultures and in regards of old line play and uh.
And he learned so much from them all you know
what I mean, Like you learned so much, uh, you know,
great detail and in the approach to it, the mindset
and the attitude and and it's and it's great, It's great.

Dave Miles Garrett, Mike Trout For those that might not
have seen it on your social media or the AM

the Mike Trout conversation Sarana Mookie Betts and that relationship
and two guys that have been at the absolute pinnacle
of this sport and two guys that have experienced, you know,

some droughts in their seasons, and if you could share
with the people listening that might not have seen it
kind of what what Mike shared with you.

Yeah, Mike Trout was our pregame guest before Saturday's first pitch,
and MOOKI was the one that alerted me in Anaheim
that him and Mike Trout formed a relationship about five
years ago when they were playing for a team USA
and the World Baseball Classic, and ever since then they've
kept in touch and when either one of those guys
(16:27):
have gone through struggles or as they say, the grind
of a season or grind of their careers, they actually
lean on one another when they sent texts and try to,
you know, pick each other up, not just with you know,
technical baseball talk, but it seems like, you know, try
to lift each other's spirits up, confidence up, try to
(16:47):
get each other through whatever they're going through. And in Anaheim,
Muki and Mike Trout spent about twenty minutes behind the
batting cage before first pitch, and you know there there
there's certainly is a deep connection between those two. And
Mike Trout's actually had his first healthy year in three years,
and if you look at his ops, it's in the
(17:09):
top ten in the American League. And there's a case
to be made. I mean, the All Star Game is
not just about who's the best player with the best
first half stats, but we want to see the stars.
And since the game is back in Philadelphia, Mike Trout
expressed to us how much he would love to make
it back to the All Star Game, especially since it
(17:29):
is in Philly.

Sports Dave, Who's got bigger issues right now? Speaking of
Mookie Bets, Mookie or Tucker.
Speaker 8 (17:43):
Well, I'll say this. I would say both have issues
as far as the hitting goes, and Mooki is hitting
under two hundred, but it feels like Mookie Betts is
hitting the ball harder and making a lot more contact,
harder contact than Kyle Tucker is and Mooki ed says
one thing Kyle Tucker doesn't have in this city, and
that's a lot of local credibility considering that he's been
(18:06):
part of three World Series Championship teams. While Kyle Tucker
is basically trying to reintroduce himself to this fan base.
And if you go back to the second half of
last year when he was dealing with a wrist injury,
he's a two thirty hitter and he's a two thirty
hitter this year as well, So you have to wonder
(18:27):
whether or not he's still working through any sort of
lingering effects of that wrist injury from a year ago.
Or did he develop bad habits during that second half
last year trying to compensate for that risk injury. But
there's no two ways about it. We're two weeks into
June and it's hard to ignore the fact that Kyle
(18:49):
Tucker has severely underperformed to this point.
Speaker 7 (18:53):
There's kind of like a I guess the upside to that,
Dave is you would expect baseball as a game of averages,
and they are both really good players that have done
it multiple times in the past, and they'll probably figure
it out. And then you look around the league, and
we were talking about this a little bit earlier. You
see the Braves, you see the Brewers. It feels like
(19:13):
those are two really good teams that are hitting their
stride and beating good teams and putting up numbers, and
they have good pitching. Do you think this is like
maybe more of a Big Three than the Dodgers are
the class of the National League? Or do you still
see it as they just need to figure some things
out and they'll pull away from everybody else.
Speaker 8 (19:34):
Well, I would say the Brazen Phillies along with the Brewers,
if they're able to acquire a big time bat or
even a tered schoolbal I would say those three are
definitely teams that could upset the Dodgers in October. But
talking to people around the league that have played both
(19:54):
the Bravez and the Dodgers, they said there's a huge
drop off between the Braves starting pitching and the Dodgers
starting pitching. They're The way they have expressed it to
me is that the Dodgers are still the better team
when it comes to them in the Atlanta Braves. Now,
the Phillies have started to play better, but we just
saw them at Dodgers Stadium, and I wouldn't say that
(20:15):
lineup is is overly impressive. They swing at almost everything,
So I would still say that Dodgers are a sizeable
margin ahead of those other teams. Just getting the feedback
from players that have played against both teams.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
How are the Dodgers so far ahead with so many
guys underperforming that are that are a big deal key players?
Speaker 8 (20:36):
Yeah? You know one thing that hasn't been talked about
Petros is they're starting pitching, and especially they're starting pitching.
As of late, their era is just about under two
with the emergence of Roki Sasaki and Justin Robleski I
mean outside of the mt she and Klunker yesterday, they
have been the best starting staff as a group in
(20:57):
all of Major League Baseball since the beginning of the year.
And when I say that, it means that they're going
deeper into games. They have logged more innings as a
starting staff in the National League than any other starting staff.
And what that does is lessen the burden on the bullpen.
And when you're able to lessen the burden on the bullpen,
(21:18):
you don't expose weak links in your bullpen, and you
can overcome missing an Edwin Diaz when you have your
starters going six or seven innings virtually every game, and
it also keeps them fresher. So there's a huge chain
effect when your starters go that deep into the game,
and not just one or two of them, but the
(21:38):
entire staff. And that's been the biggest reason why even
with Mookie Bets, Will Smith, Kyle Tucker at times, Otani
and Freeman underperforming spend their pitching and their defense that
have afforded them as large of a lead that they
have in this division. Not to mention the division's not
that great either. Petros Hey, Dave is look guy was
(22:02):
still a family on the hill.
Speaker 7 (22:05):
Well, there you go, Andy, Andy Paez had had an
OPS north of a thousand for a while there, you know,
kind of for the first three or so weeks. And
is he backing off a little or is he doing
something that he wasn't doing earlier? I mean, I know
he's hitting under two hundred here of the month of June.
It's only like eight games or six games or something.
(22:27):
But have you noticed anything different from kind of what
he was doing when he was the best hitter in
all of baseball.
Speaker 8 (22:35):
No, he's still doing it. He's still doing it, but
he's not a secret anymore. Teams are game planning for
him now, especially since he's hitting right behind Otani. And
he's still leading all of baseball with fifty three RBIs.
So he's still really good. I don't think we could
expect him to be the best hitter in baseball all
season long, but he's still really good. And him and
(22:55):
Munsey deserve to be starters at the All Star Game
for the National League. I would say there's three locks, Paz, Munsey,
and of course so Tani. But Pa has still been
really good.
Speaker 6 (23:07):
We don't know what the weather's going to be like
in Pittsburgh tomorrow, but we will have doctor Neil Elatrosh
on the Petrosen Money Show to talk about the nanoscope
Who Dave's dear friend fell into our last Yes, that's
how it happens to us. That just felt like like KCP.

All of a sudden, We're pronouncing his last name the
correct way, giving him the due respect he does.

I'm gonna say, hey, trash, what if I get punched
into the trash like Clipper Daryl? Will you pull the
loose bodies out of my arm?

Him about asking them about Blake Snell. I was throwing
eighty miles an hour just two and a half weeks
after his spectacular new procedure.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
What's the latest on all those guys, Dave, including your
guy Snell.
Speaker 8 (23:53):
Well, you know about schoolbl right. He threw his first
rehab game just a couple of days ago. So he's
on the way back and Snell is throwing eighty miles
an hour from about sixty five feet after undergoing that
nanoscool procedure. So it is doing what was intended, and
that's getting these guys back and giving them the range
(24:15):
of motion that they wouldn't have if they would have
done the standard remove the bone hips and Snell's procedure
was much more involved than Schoobles was, so that makes
what he's doing even more impressive. Evan Phillips another guy
can be grateful to the great doctor Neil Elatrosh for
performing his Tommy John procedure and made his second rehab
(24:38):
appearance and is on his way back to the Dodger
bullpen within the next three or four weeks. And Tommy Edmund,
the twenty four NLCSMVP who had right ankle surgery, not
at the hands of doctor Elatrosh, I don't believe, but
he's on his way back as well. He's got thirty
at bats, so he needs twenty more at bats to
(24:59):
be ready to go. And he's played third base, he's
played left field, he's played second base, he's played center
field for Oklahoma City. So starting to look like Tommy
Edman again.

What was today? Was it leg press day? Was it
ram rack day? Were you on the clean platform? What's
going on down there?

Yeah, we did a little bit of everything we had.

We had some practice in a little bit extra uh conditioning,
and we did some some weightlifting like you said, Yeah,
we did a little uh single alarm press and uh.
Speaker 5 (27:42):
Some some upper body today a little pulled down. They
made a big deal of a.
Speaker 6 (27:46):
Little Romanian deadlift. Some already els not today, not today,
but you got to keep that lower back strong. You
know what I'm saying. I was Benning and the knees good.
Speaker 5 (27:54):

Speaker 7 (27:55):
We heard a lot about Ben Herbert last year or
two years ago really when he came in his season.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Uh is it different than kind of what you're used to.
Speaker 7 (28:03):
We hear about the finishers and the fourth quarter finishers,
kind of what's your experience been so far?
Speaker 5 (28:07):
Now, it's been awesome. It's it's definitely a different in
the best way.
Speaker 14 (28:10):
I think, just uh, just his approach every day and
his energy and his attitude of just greatness and uh
coming in with a consistent attitude of what we have
as our standard. I think that's huge, especially coming from
our strength staff and all our coaches and players, but
holding each other accountable.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
That it's a it's a it's in the best way.
So I love it. I love it. How'd you end
up here? Uh?
Speaker 7 (28:33):
Free agent? You had a lot of choices. Yeah, it
seemed like they didn't want to let you get out
of the building.
Speaker 14 (28:37):
Yeah, no, I mean, uh, yeah, I was a free
agent and I came in on my visit and uh,
the coaches. Man, I was, Uh, I feel like I
struck gold that I honestly, the coaches. I met with
Coach Harball right away in the morning, had a great
you know conversation with him to start the day, and
(28:59):
and with the coaches like coach McDaniel and uh Oline,
coach Butch Berry and a lot of other coaches too.
And obviously, you know, I've had a previous relationship with
Rashan and even even I've known Justin too over the
years and coming out in the same draft class too.
So uh, there's a lot of thought going into the
visit at the same time, and you know, I just
felt like, uh, after that day, that whole visit, I
(29:22):
didn't want to be anywhere else, and uh, I don't
want to get it done. And we got it done
that night and got the sign the next day. So
but man, no, it's it's been a blast. And everything
we've we've spoken throughout my visit that day, and we've
we've brought it to life. And you know, I think
just like how the coaches and and how they put
the plant together and and and develop us through this
(29:44):
period of otias, through phase one, two and now going
into three, we've had nothing, but you know, great learning
lessons throughout, you know, obviously introducing a new offense for
all of us, but also too of just seeing where
we're at and continuously making progress and making gains.
Speaker 5 (30:00):
It's in the run, game, play.
Speaker 14 (30:01):
Pass or even in pass pro twos in my book
of an alignment. So but no man have had a great,
great intro into this year. So I'm very excited for
the season.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
I'm sure you feel this way, Tyler Badish joining us
right now the Chargers Center. I don't. I'm sure you
feel this way since high school. I don't know if
passed that. But the personality of an offensive line is
is always very unique, always very different, and it varies
from team to team. Uh do you get to know
(30:32):
that yet? The identity of this group? I obviously we
know the pieces and how cool they all are, but
what when do you know what that identity and personality
is like? And what are your impressions? Just to start out,
before you guys have really gotten down and dirty to
the business of the season.
Speaker 14 (30:49):
I mean, I honestly, I feel like you know, when
I came here on my visit, Like how I said before,
I really felt like the energy and what they wanted
to accomplish, and like obviously like the style of play
and standard, but even like you know, talking with coach
Harball and just what he represents and like a football guru,
you know, like just having that intellectrical knowledge of just
you know, football and just his like passion and his
(31:12):
approach to every day and making it a great day
and continuously getting better and better. And you know, I
really think you know, having that collective energy throughout the
whole staff and even obviously with players, and I think
when you put that, you know, on the field, I
feel like you really bring it to life, and even
through like the lifting and conditioning through phase one and
(31:33):
phase two with like the position coaches and really like
kind of like putting it out on the field and
seeing obviously wherever one's starting point is and then continuously
progress obviously in each position group. But I feel like
it's really like when you kind of obviously in the
meeting rooms you have to continuously get like the dialogue
and information, But when you really bring it to life
on the field, I feel like that's when you really
feel it and you can really feel it like come together,
(31:55):
and that's where like great communication throughout like teammates and
coaches staff.
Speaker 5 (31:59):
I think it really and bring it to.
Speaker 7 (32:00):
Life justin Herbert was at the presser last week and
he said that it took one or two snaps for
him to realize that this was going to be a
good connection between you and him. What what happened in
those one to two snaps? What what kind of can
you explain, you know, maybe kind of what he was
sharing and what you felt and what goes in to
having that relationship with a quarterback.
Speaker 14 (32:20):
Yeah, honestly, like it felt the same too, because I said,
like it was right after, you know, the first day
when we took a few snaps, it was like it
was very crisp. It wasn't a lot of like it
was a it was a feel thing and we you know,
we naturally just had a great, you know, great exchange
with the under center and everything like that, but also
with our calls and like it's just very like professional
(32:42):
and it's and it's so cool too because I think,
you know what I think the first thing I said,
Ad just went out here. I mean, can you believe
it's Earty year seven? Because we both came out in
the same draft class and we went. We have the
same agency, so we got to communicate throughout that period
and whenever we had a game against each other, we
always talk after the game, catching up, seeing how each
other were and everything like that throughout our career. And
(33:03):
but it's it's been a blast every day, honestly, and uh,
it has been.
Speaker 5 (33:06):
It's it's come really.
Speaker 14 (33:07):
Natural and I think, you know, just part of our
career up to this point and you know, what's what's
our common goal and everything like that, and it's a
it's a I feel like I'm really blessed honestly to
have a to have a quarterback like him. And again,
like we have fun every day and it's like do
you know constant always like you know, putting putting greatness
(33:28):
on the field and what he can do and and
what he's shown like day after day, and uh, it's
it's a lot of fun working with him.

I can't say enough great things. You mentioned you had
a prior relationship with Rashaan. Is that just like a
big ten thing or like what what's what? What do
you guys stick together at the combine and the draft process?
Like what was your prior relationship with him?
Speaker 6 (33:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (33:48):
I mean.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
It was.
Speaker 14 (33:51):
It was so funny because I think it was I
remember when he was at Northwestern and everyone know who
Sean was. Like when we were I think it was
like my uh second to last year, my last year
in college, and uh, we didn't really know each other
at that point, but we knew of each other. And uh,
when he started training in the off season, we went
to the same we went to the same group from
the same person, and uh we have to meet and
(34:12):
we've been training in the off season together for the
last five years and stuff. So I got to know
him and uh even Trey Pipkins and uh a lot
of the guys. And I think that's the cool part too.
It's because it's like when I came here in for agency,
like it felt like, you know, you always wanted to like,
you know, if that opportunity came to play with the
guys like maybe you knew or or like even like
justin like what it would be like, you know, when
(34:34):
you're in that free AGENC process, it would be like
to play with these guys and you got the opportunity
to what would it feel like or look like? And
we have to like really manifest that right now, and uh,
what what do we want to be and what standards
do we want to have and and to continuously uh,
you know, progress throughout this like even ota period, like
like having one step at a time, but it's kind
of stant like you know, having fun every day doing
(34:56):
what you'd love to do and uh, but having guys
like that where you worked you in a year out
and and built camaraderie of like just the knowledge of
play throughout the years, and it's it's really fun, honestly.
Speaker 5 (35:08):
You're Uh.
Speaker 7 (35:09):
When we think of Wisconsin football and and old lineman,
I don't know, maybe I'm just pitching hole in you here,
but I think they're like drinking beer and like eating
a lot of cheese and stuff like is that is that?
Speaker 5 (35:21):
What it is? Is?
Speaker 7 (35:22):
Like, is do you miss the cheese? Do you miss
the is the beer drinking? To Saale? Like what what
is it about those Wisconsin old linemen? Because you're scattered
all throughout the league? There's a million of you? Am
I right in that? Is that what you guys do?
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Or no?
Speaker 14 (35:35):
Yeah, I think, Uh, the biggest part when I was
there was the old the old line culture and I've
got to be a part of like several but that
one was very much, uh you know, just the culture
of old line that have been in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (35:50):
And we got to have a lot.
Speaker 14 (35:51):
Of the alumni come back when I was there, and
there's a lot of traditions, and you're right, yeah, there
was a there's some beer drinking for sure, but at
the same time, there was a lot it was a
great camaraderie in a great brotherhood of the chemistry and
the culture as in the old line room. And you know,
at the time, I had Joe Rudolph as my line
coach and and we really honestly watched a lot of
(36:14):
the old lines that came before us and what they've
done or and and and what they've accomplished in uh
in regards of going to the Rose Bowl or like
all that, the Big Ten Championships and all that stuff.
And we got to meet like guys like Travis Frederick
and like Joe Thomas when I was in college.
Speaker 5 (36:31):
And and it was.
Speaker 14 (36:32):
So crazy because then when I got drafted by the Cowboys,
I was watching ready like cowboy tape with Travis Frederick there.
So and you got to meet you know, Zach Martin
and Tyren Smith my first year there, and and Travis
as well when he would come and and and got
to be a part of that culture even though you're
watching it on tape. So I got to, you know,
be a part of a lot of you know, great
(36:52):
cultures and in regards of old line play and uh.
And he learned so much from them all you know
what I mean, Like you learned so much, uh, you know,
great detail and in the approach to it, the mindset
and the attitude and and it's and it's great, It's great.
Speaker 6 (37:05):
They also drank hard Selzer Matt the great.
Speaker 12 (37:14):
Depends the liquor is a.
