wanted to have the five to seven guy, and also

Yeah, it was a great ride in in my Ionic nine,
my Dodger Blue Ionic nine. It is great to be

weather in my veins again. But I think the Dodgers
are happy to be back after that road trip.

It was less than ideal, to put it kindly, for
the Dodgers. A lot of disappointments, a lot of frustrations.
Everybody focuses on the pitching, but quite honestly, the offense
right now, to me is the biggest issue, because you know,
going back to even June, this Dodger offense has not

reached its potential. And part of the reason why is
because the bottom of the order just isn't producing. Now
You've got Max Munsey in a slump, you got Tai
Oscar Hernandez having three pitch at bats one pitch at bats. Really,
the only guy that you can think of that is
having good at bats and doing something positive after Freddie
(16:42):
Freeman is Tommy Edmond And also guys, I feel like
everybody fails to recognize. You know, everybody talked about Dalton
Rushing and the viral moments he had in the beginning
part of the year, but go back and look at
what he did offensively for the Dodgers. Hitting eighth or ninth,
he was a real We're at twelve home runs, eight
hundred ops. That's gone now, and they don't have Will Smith,

so it's a patchwork catching situation until Smith returns.

Dave, Are they old? I mean, are we you know,

I talked to Miguel Rojas on the pregame show on Saturday,
and he said he sent the team a text on
their players only group text chat, and he told them,
let's not just see the light at the end of
the tunnel with forty something games left, Let's start to
sprint towards the finish line instead of just coasting drifting

to the finish line. So there is something to be
set up out that. But look, there's a lot of
miles on these guys, and they went through a similar
stretch at this time last year, and I do believe
that's part of the equation because there are a lot
of miles on these guys. And you guys talk about
the dog days of August. It's a real thing, and

it may hit these guys a little harder knowing that
they had that lead. There's a lot of miles on
those guys. And when you face a team as hot
as the Red Sox, as hot as the Cubs, and
a team that just comes at you like a spider
monkey like the Diamondbacks did, they don't match up well
against those energetic young teams that just run the bases
(18:41):
wild the way those teams did on them. So I
think there's a lot of reasons why there's not just one,
but old I want to go that far. I would
just say that there's a lot of miles on those guys,
and they know how to navigate a season, and right
now it's feeling the same way it did this time
last year. And luckily, if you go back and look

how far they were ahead last year compared to this year,
it's a sizeable lead this year.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
There's no doubt about it. David Vase a voice of
reason back in Los Angeles at the Real Underscore DV

Hot Night, Dave, are the Kansas City Royals so bad
that the Dodgers are going to be? Okay?

You would think so, but right now the Dodgers can't
take anything for granted. The way they're playing. I don't
know how they get out of this slump. Dave Roberts
was presented with the facts that is starting to become
hard to ignore, very glaring. The Dodgers have grounded into
the most double plays in all of Major League Baseball.
(19:48):
They have the least amount of stolen bases in Major
League Baseball, so if they're not. I think it's pretty
clear that if the Dodgers are not out homering their
opponent in a game, the chances of them winning are
not very high. And that's just the reality of who
they are. You talk about football teams with an identity

by week whatever, week seven. At this point in time
in August, that's the Dodgers' identity pitching, defense, and slug
and right now they're not doing a lot of any
of those things.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
I was surprised to see, considering they were riding that
seven game losing streak, Dave Roberts opt to send Edwin
Diaz back out there. I don't know if that was
a surprise for you as well, Dave, But do you
buy what Doc said after the game that you know,
after those back to back triples, which I don't know
the last time or if I've ever seen back to
back triples, that he was dialed in and he did

like the stuff a lot more. Do you subscribe to
that or are you concerned that this guy's not the
same as what we thought he was going to be.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Well, it's one thing you hear Dave Roberts said, I
had a chance to go toe to toe with Sugar
Diaz yesterday before the game and look into his eye
and get what he was feeling in that ninth inning,
and he was really candid with me. He said, after
that second triple by Corbyn Carroll, he said, I was
not going to allow those Diamondbacks to beat us. I

was not going to walk off that mound as a loser.
And that's where the switch flipped for him, the way
he was explaining it to me, Because as you guys know,
no matter what athlete you are, if you're coming back
from an injury, a surgery, there's always something in the
back of your mind, just a little something that prevents
(21:34):
your arm in this case, from doing everything it needs
to do to be as good as it was before,
because you're a little concerned if I go a little
bit too far, is my elbow going to hurt? Is
there going to be some issues? And I feel like
for Diaz that has been in the back of his
mind what I was gathering from him in our conversation yesterday,
(21:57):
But once Corbyn Carroll got to the base and the
game was on the line, nobody out. All of that
went out the window. He said. He said, I just
told myself and I'm not going to use the expletives
that he used when we were having our conversation, but
basically in Petros and money terms, he said, Efett, I'm
not going to lose this game, and that's when he

let it rip. So I do believe that that was
a turning point in his season, and he may prove
me wrong, but I believe from here on out you're
going to see a different Edwin Diaz.

Dave Overall, did Roy Scheiner come out and blow up

Robleski is more of a competitor, has more testicular fortitude

Roberts mentioned this when I asked him about the chess
match between hitter and pitcher. It's time now for Robleski
to make the counter move. Because he's a guy that

pitches to contact, and maybe, just maybe after having double
digit strikeouts going into the All Star break, maybe he's
chasing strikeouts too much. Maybe that's the issue, because the
fastball is up, the spin rate is up. Maybe he
has to remind himself who he is. He's not a
strikeout pitcher, and don't get caught up in the analytics

and the creatings of people like you that demand strikeouts.

So basically they became Lotus the engine designers for Lotus.
But then the SECA here in the state sports Car
Something of America sports Car Club of America took a

notice and Cosworth became a big American brand. Ford took
notice and they purchased the rights to the design of
their Sea Series Development Contract eight cylinder version, the very
famous DFV that dominated Formula One for many years and
really was how Ford got in the DFA made DFV

I should say, made a famous debut in the third
race of the nineteen sixty seven season in the Dutch
Grand Prix of Formula One, and it quickly became as
it was then made available to all teams in sixty eight,
the power plant that everybody used. He and Ford built
a turbo powered engine that took over the sport for

a while. It was a V six with a monster
turbo on it, but that quickly faded. BMW top their
eight hundred and fifty horses with a one thousand horse yeah,
turbopowered engine. Nineteen eighty world champion Alan Jones was the
guy that was driving that, but they still finished in
the top five and had a handful of podiums as well.

The Benetton team was using Cosworth back in the day,

at home getting ready for maybe the Dodgers to play
a little bit better. But the last ten days have
been abysmal, and Dave has been there for all of
it on these trips. Dave, what are your feelings, what
are your thoughts? And congratulations for reconnecting with your Hyundai

Yeah, it was a great ride in in my Ionic nine,
my Dodger Blue Ionic nine. It is great to be
back and great to get some Pacific Ocean salt water
weather in my veins again. But I think the Dodgers
are happy to be back after that road trip.

It was.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
It was less than ideal, to put it kindly, for
the Dodgers. A lot of disappointments, a lot of frustrations.
Everybody focuses on the pitching, but quite honestly, the offense
right now, to me is the biggest issue, because you know,
going back to even June, this Dodger offense has not

reached its potential. And part of the reason why is
because the bottom of the order just isn't producing. Now
You've got Max Munsey in a slump, you got Tai
Oscar Hernandez having three pitch at bats one pitch at bats. Really,
the only guy that you can think of that is
having good at bats and doing something positive after Freddie
(16:42):
Freeman is Tommy Edmond And also guys, I feel like
everybody fails to recognize. You know, everybody talked about Dalton
Rushing and the viral moments he had in the beginning
part of the year, but go back and look at
what he did offensively for the Dodgers. Hitting eighth or ninth,
he was a real We're at twelve home runs, eight
hundred ops. That's gone now, and they don't have Will Smith,

so it's a patchwork catching situation until Smith returns.

Dave, Are they old? I mean, are we you know,
dog days August?

Save some energy for themations of age?

I'm just and it's not that like it's it's are
they conserving for the postseason? Are these guys that they're

You got guys in their mid thirties, Like, is this
where they're like, hey, man, let's make sure we're good
for October? Is there do you think there's any of
that happening?

I talked to Miguel Rojas on the pregame show on Saturday,
and he said he sent the team a text on
their players only group text chat, and he told them,
let's not just see the light at the end of
the tunnel with forty something games left, Let's start to
sprint towards the finish line instead of just coasting drifting

to the finish line. So there is something to be
set up out that. But look, there's a lot of
miles on these guys, and they went through a similar
stretch at this time last year, and I do believe
that's part of the equation because there are a lot
of miles on these guys. And you guys talk about
the dog days of August. It's a real thing, and

it may hit these guys a little harder knowing that
they had that lead. There's a lot of miles on
those guys. And when you face a team as hot
as the Red Sox, as hot as the Cubs, and
a team that just comes at you like a spider
monkey like the Diamondbacks did, they don't match up well
against those energetic young teams that just run the bases
(18:41):
wild the way those teams did on them. So I
think there's a lot of reasons why there's not just one,
but old I want to go that far. I would
just say that there's a lot of miles on those guys,
and they know how to navigate a season, and right
now it's feeling the same way it did this time
last year. And luckily, if you go back and look
(19:03):
how far they were ahead last year compared to this year,
it's a sizeable lead this year.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
There's no doubt about it. David Vase a voice of

Hot Night, Dave, are the Kansas City Royals so bad
that the Dodgers are going to be? Okay?

You would think so, but right now the Dodgers can't
take anything for granted. The way they're playing. I don't
know how they get out of this slump. Dave Roberts
was presented with the facts that is starting to become
hard to ignore, very glaring. The Dodgers have grounded into
the most double plays in all of Major League Baseball.
(19:48):
They have the least amount of stolen bases in Major
League Baseball, so if they're not. I think it's pretty
clear that if the Dodgers are not out homering their
opponent in a game, the chances of them winning are
not very high. And that's just the reality of who
they are. You talk about football teams with an identity
(20:09):
by week whatever, week seven. At this point in time
in August, that's the Dodgers' identity pitching, defense, and slug
and right now they're not doing a lot of any
of those things.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
I was surprised to see, considering they were riding that
seven game losing streak, Dave Roberts opt to send Edwin
Diaz back out there. I don't know if that was
a surprise for you as well, Dave, But do you
buy what Doc said after the game that you know,
after those back to back triples, which I don't know
the last time or if I've ever seen back to
back triples, that he was dialed in and he did
(20:42):
like the stuff a lot more. Do you subscribe to
that or are you concerned that this guy's not the
same as what we thought he was going to be.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Well, it's one thing you hear Dave Roberts said, I
had a chance to go toe to toe with Sugar
Diaz yesterday before the game and look into his eye
and get what he was feeling in that ninth inning,
and he was really candid with me. He said, after
that second triple by Corbyn Carroll, he said, I was
not going to allow those Diamondbacks to beat us. I

was not going to walk off that mound as a loser.
And that's where the switch flipped for him, the way
he was explaining it to me, Because as you guys know,
no matter what athlete you are, if you're coming back
from an injury, a surgery, there's always something in the
back of your mind, just a little something that prevents
(21:34):
your arm in this case, from doing everything it needs
to do to be as good as it was before,
because you're a little concerned if I go a little
bit too far, is my elbow going to hurt? Is
there going to be some issues? And I feel like
for Diaz that has been in the back of his
mind what I was gathering from him in our conversation yesterday,

But once Corbyn Carroll got to the base and the
game was on the line, nobody out. All of that
went out the window. He said. He said, I just
told myself and I'm not going to use the expletives
that he used when we were having our conversation, but
basically in Petros and money terms, he said, Efett, I'm
not going to lose this game, and that's when he

let it rip. So I do believe that that was
a turning point in his season, and he may prove
me wrong, but I believe from here on out you're
going to see a different Edwin Diaz.

Dave Overall, did Roy Scheiner come out and blow up
the shark? What happened to Robleski? Is it over?

Robleski is more of a competitor, has more testicular fortitude

Roberts mentioned this when I asked him about the chess
match between hitter and pitcher. It's time now for Robleski
to make the counter move. Because he's a guy that

pitches to contact, and maybe, just maybe after having double
digit strikeouts going into the All Star break, maybe he's
chasing strikeouts too much. Maybe that's the issue, because the
fastball is up, the spin rate is up. Maybe he
has to remind himself who he is. He's not a
strikeout pitcher, and don't get caught up in the analytics

and the creatings of people like you that demand strikeouts.

What's happening with Kyle Tucker.

Trying to respond to anything like Petros grasps on to

And right now, with all the talk about the offensive struggles,
Kyle Tucker is the silver lining. We're seeing signs of
life out of Kyle Tucker. But we're not letting the

But he said because he was so young, his recommendations
weren't taken and their famous queerbox issues continued despite his suggestions.

Yes, it was called the queerbox was what they called
their gearbox because of how different it was than any

that is Cosworth Engines. Costin cause Duckworth Worth Cosworth nineteen
fifty eight. He was only twenty four, Uh, and likes
so often happens. When he got out from under the

thumb of upper management. Uh, Lotus was like, hey, these
engines are really great, would you mind if we used them?
So basically they became Lotus the engine designers for Lotus.
But then the SECA here in the state sports Car
Something of America sports Car Club of America took a

notice and Cosworth became a big American brand. Ford took
notice and they purchased the rights to the design of
their Sea Series Development Contract eight cylinder version, the very
famous DFV that dominated Formula One for many years and
really was how Ford got in the DFA made DFV
(30:34):
I should say, made a famous debut in the third
race of the nineteen sixty seven season in the Dutch
Grand Prix of Formula One, and it quickly became as
it was then made available to all teams in sixty eight,
the power plant that everybody used. He and Ford built
a turbo powered engine that took over the sport for

a while. It was a V six with a monster
turbo on it, but that quickly faded. BMW top their
eight hundred and fifty horses with a one thousand horse yeah,
turbopowered engine. Nineteen eighty world champion Alan Jones was the
guy that was driving that, but they still finished in
the top five and had a handful of podiums as well.

The Benetton team was using Cosworth back in the day,
and you.

Know that United Colors as well. They used that also.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
It made up for the queer box, you know, when
they evened it out there with the Benettitt.

Cosworth abandoned the B six turbo at the end of
eighty seven and then used their three and a half
naturally aspirated DFZV eight, which once again took over. He
would sell his steak for tens of millions of dollars,
but kept his lifetime presidency in day to day technical
involvement with Cosworth. Considered one of the all time great

F one engineers slash mechanics slash inventors, passed in two
thousand and five at seventy two. A racing legend one
half of Cosworth, Keith Duckworth, Lee Sung.
