you had a terrific weekend. Bennie bon Signor will be
in the program today at one o'clock for this big
two hour show, and of course we'll get into what
happened with the Dodgers over the weekend against the Phillies.
Plus the Dodgers are in Arizona, another one of those. Okay,
it's a litmus test, well it is for the Diamondbacks.

Arizona has been playing really well. Dodgers have been quietly
going about their business. Took two of three against the Phillies.
So for Arizona it's a litmus test, and for the
Dodgers it's a four game series that begins on June first.
All right, But the big news, and I don't know
if you heard about this, happened a little earlier this morning.
The Rams pulled the trigger on a major move. The
(00:46):
Rams had been in pursuit of Miles Garrett since March.
Miles Garrett, the All Pro defensive player from Cleveland, and
the Rams closed the deal. This is massive, This is massive.
The Rams went out and got arguably the best defensive
player in the NFL. They closed the deal this morning.

The clubs haven't announced it yet, but everybody else has
announced it, so it's a done deal. The Rams were
told by the Browns no deal would get done without
including Oh, but they did have to give up Verse. Yeah,
so they gave up a pretty good player in return.
But here's the bottom line. The Rams did go out

and get Miles Garrett. You understand what that means. Ultimately,
the Rams are certainly in it to win it. Yeah,
they gave up Pass Russer, Jared Verse, a talented young player.
They gave up multiple picks. But to get something like that,
you've got to give something up. Do we want to
see Verse go? No, you really don't. But when you

got a two time defensive Player of the Year in
Miles Garrett, you make the move necessary to make the move.
The Browns also receive a first round pick in twenty
twenty seven, a second round picking twenty twenty eight, a
third rounder in twenty twenty nine. This is one of
the biggest trades in NFL history involving a defensive player.
So what does that mean The Rams are locked and loaded. Yes,
(02:18):
they gave up a very talented young player, but in
return they've got a showstopper. And if you look at
what they have done now during the offseason, and even
when you go back to the draft and oh my god,
they took Ty Simpson. Why didn't they take somebody that
could help them now? Because they're locked and loaded right now.

Arguably the Rams have the best roster in the National
Football League, and the Rams are certainly in a twenty.
You know, when Kevin Demoff came to town and the
Rams moved to LA and they made that deal where
they got Jared Goff with the first pick, he said,
go bigger, go home, because that's how you have to
succeed and win in lost hands. Since they've been here,

that's what they've done. Think about the moves they made
Matthew Stafford, it worked. I guess it could have failed,
but it worked. A move like this worked, it will work.
It will work big time. So what they have done
is they have integrated into the market with a total
(03:23):
understanding of how it works. And that's on Kevin Demoff
because he's from here and he knows LA. And now
they have put together a roster that is so superior
that they are the odds on favorite to win the
Super Bowl, quietly going about their business. And it's a
culture that's been created since they moved here and since
(03:45):
Sean McVay took over. Quite frankly, they have created a
culture very much like the Dodgers, and it's all centered
on winning. Everything is about that. They will do anything
they need to do. See. The great thing about the
Rams with less Need is that they don't stand pat
they don't say we're okay. They want to win it

every single year. And this move confirms it. This move
confirms it. The super Bowl, of course, is supposed to
be played at Sofi Stadium. This year, the Rams played
in the Super Bowl at Sofi Stadium. They'll have a
chance to play in another one now. And the infamous
f them picks, Well, the Rams gave up picks. But boy,
(04:29):
you've got to really believe that they did something that
put the league on notice. And I'm not saying that
people around the National Football League didn't realize, Oh the
Rams are for real. Oh They're for real. They are
really for real. And I think if you're an LA
sports fan, you have to be thrilled with this. You've
got a team committed to doing anything necessary to win.

You could make the argument, well they all do. I
mean the Chargers have. Yeah, the Chargers have made move.
They put together a good team. They've just never got
over the hump. And quite honestly, in all of the
moves they've made, they have never taken center stage above
the Rams. Even when they signed Jim Harbaugh, it was
a great signing those our biggest free agent signing in history,

Jim Harbaugh. But they have not superseded the Rams in
any way, shape or form. Look at LA sports teams. Now,
just take one second and consider this. So the Dodgers
are now the team of record in the market. They
have surpassed the Lakers. They're sustained and continued success has
(05:39):
leveled not only unleveled to playing field, but put them
number one, far and above everybody else. So the Rams
are number are. The Dodgers are number one the end.
Now let's go to number two and number three. This
market was always Dodgers, Lakers, Lakers, Dodgers, you pick, all right, Well,
now it's Dodgers. Once Alter's people get in there and

Lon Rose and starts figuring things out, we'll see if
the Lakers can get back to where they were. NBA's
different philosophy, the same sustained success. That's what they'll go after.
If in fact that happens, then they'll probably move back
into the number two slots. But right now, could you
make the argument, when you look at the best teams

in LA, you would say Dodgers number one, than who
would you say the Lakers? I wouldn't not now, I
would say the second best team in LA the Rams.
Now they had been gone forever, they have come back
(06:44):
and taken care of their business and given the way
they've operated, and again it all centers around Sean McVay
being hired as coach, I think now they are number
two in this market, behind the Dodgers. It's pretty incredible.
If you think about it's go to number three, probably
the Lakers name value alone, they'd always been there. So

you have Dodgers, Rams, Lakers, and then everybody else just
falls into line. You could say the Clippers, you could
say the Kinks, but I think those are your top
three now in USC used to be up there and
they're not even a pro team, but they have fallen now.
So the Rams have done something remarkable in a giant market.
(07:31):
And also understand this, when you're competing in Los Angeles.
It's not like you're competing in Kansas City or Pittsburgh.
This is a major market. This is New York. So
you better be pretty damn good and you better make
inroads quickly. And that's exactly what the Rams have done.
(07:55):
I mean, look at their defense. Now give it up,
Verse hurts because he's a young stud. Getting Miles Garrett
is unimaginable. Look at them. Now look at their defense. Okay,
well that's solidified. And now look at their offense, and
(08:17):
you know how high powered that is. So as we
move in now to training camp, we get through the summer,
we get the training camp, and then we kick off.
The Rams are the team to beat. They're the team
to beat in the National Football League. They were the
(08:37):
team to beat. And now with this deal that that's
the exclamation point, they're gonna be really, really tough. No,
they're not going unbeaten. Stop, nobody's going unbeaten. And that
doesn't even matter because what matters, as we've learned with
the Dodgers, is when when you need to be healthy
(08:58):
when it counts and get that momentum and you put
yourself in a position to win. That's what they've done.
As if the NFC West wasn't unnoticed, they're unnoticed now.
How about this, As if the NFC wasn't unnoticed, they're
unnoticed now. The Rams are taking no prisoners. I love this.

I love that they go for it every year. Sure
you can say, well, the Clippers go for it every year. Yeah,
it didn't work out. You give them credit. They made
a big deal when they acquired Kawhi and Paul George
didn't work out. The Dodger moves have worked out. And
a lot of reason the Dodger moves have worked out
is because if they don't, they have the money to
fix it. National Football Leagu's a hard cap, but somehow

less need is the master cap manipulator, and they do
very well picking in the late rounds. So you don't
need a first round pick because they can find them
in the fourth round. They can find them into the
fifth round. Well, if that's the case, other teams desperately
need those picks. You start moving them, you start going

for it. It's really a ballsy strategy and goes against the
conventional wisdom of building a team. But because they have
had such incredible success outside the top two rounds, no
big deal, No big deal. I'd argue that there's not

another team in the NFL that can do what the
Rams can do roster wise. I mean, look at the Cowboys.
The Cowboys and the Lakers are the same franchise, believe
it or not, because they're the Cowboys and because they're
the Lakers, at least in the past. The Lakers every
year you better watch for them. They're going to be
in it. No they're not. Oh they could win it

this year. No they won't, but they have that cachet
because of their brand recognition, but they weren't going to
win it. Now, look at the Rams quietly going about
their business, just doing it peace by peace, by peace.

They have not made many mistakes. Some of that is
dumb luck, some of that is preparation. Some of that
is just you're pretty smart making the moves, totle them
all up and you get to where they're at. So
I think you can make the argument that the Rams

have now surpassed the Lakers as the number two team
in Los Angeles. I know the Lakers have won the titles.
I gotta check Kobe Magic Kareem. Yes, yes, we know.
But right now, right now, I think it's the Rams.
So that means it's a pretty exciting time to be
a football fan in LA. If you're a Charge and

they're in the same city. Please don't think they don't
keep an eye on what the other one does, but
they have their own business to deal with. The Chargers
have been methodically moving and doing the kinds of things
to get them in a position to succeed. Justin Herbert
has not got them over the top yet. Mike McDaniel
is now the offensive coordinator. It will be his task
(12:23):
to unleash Justin Herbert, and it'll be the trainer's task
to keep their alignment healthy. Dave Damashak was on Friday,
It's funny I was thinking about this when I saw
this deal this morning. Dave said, his Super Bowl call
for so far this year is the Rams and the Chargers.

Don't mind boggling, that would be. I mean, you cannot
take your eyes off the Rams during the season now
you can't. You have to watch them. They're the Dodgers. No,
they have one two in a row, but they're the Dodgers.
They are loaded. I mean they are loaded. They can
(13:04):
impose their will. That's how good the Rams are now,
Just like the Dodgers. The Dodgers can impose their will.
They have the ability to do what they want to do.
Big picture, anything can happen. Guys can get hurt. It
(13:25):
could be issues in the locker room. Funny, you never
hear that with the Rams. You never hear that with
the Dodgers, do you. They do a terrific job of
taking care of their own business, of minding their own business.
They treat the players right. They want to be a
part of the organization and when someone comes here, they're appreciative.

We have not hurt from Miles Garrett yet. Because they
have to officially announce the deal. What do you think
he's going to say. What do you think he's going
to say. This is the worst moment of my life.
He's going to go, God, all I've wanted is to
be on a team that can win the Super Bowl,
and now I'm here. And he's not even a missing

piece of the puzzle. He's an additional piece to the puzzle.
They gave up a lot to get him, but man,
what they got in return. I just think it's super exciting,
super exciting for LA Sports, and super exciting if you're
a Rams fan. Okay, So for the Dodgers, it's the

first of four starting in June. For the Diamondbacks, they
could be thinking this will determine our season and that
is next.

Miles Garrett. Okay, as for the Dodgers, there you go.
They took two or three from the Phillies. The Phillies
came out of the blocks, looked terrible, fired their manager
but non mattingly and had been playing much better. So
(15:32):
give them credit there, but not enough for the Dodgers
over the weekend. So let's talk about a couple of
the things that stood out. Number one, Roki Sazaki, Dylan Hernandez,
and the Post wrote, you know, now we're starting to
see the real Roki Sazaki. This was an issue about
command and control. It's that simple command and control, and
(15:53):
he had to work his way through it. I mean,
we've sat here on the show and said, well, maybe
he should go down of Triple eight even after spring training.
You know, maybe he would benefit from going down to OKC.
But the Dodgers have the advantage because of the roster.
They have to give guys a chance and take time.
And remember they promised him when they signed him, because
(16:13):
he said, I'm going to go somewhere where they will
make me be the best, they will make me better,
and they said we're the guys to do it. So
they hung with him, and all of a sudden, now
you are starting to see him turn into a major
league pitcher. There's never a question about could he throw
(16:34):
the ball. Nobody ever argued that could he pitch? Well,
of course he could pitch. There was never a question
about that. The real question here was when would he
settle in and when would he learn to be a
big league pitcher. Well, over the weekend, he looked pretty good.
(16:55):
Over the weekend, has he turned the corners, he crossed
the bridge. I don't know, but let's just go one
step at a time, and I thought over the weekend,
that was a pretty important step. Ryan Ward homered. He
got called up when Tail was hurt. Hit his first
home run at Dodger Stadium, led the pc Ellen homers.
(17:17):
Simply nowhere else for him to go. I mean, he
could hit, but there's no way he could crack the
Dodger lineup. So he's back. He plays at Dodger Stadium.
He hits it out. Then Alex Friedland follows with a
home run. Great moment the two of them teammates and OKC.
But for Ryan Ward, that's a dream come true. Here's
a guy who has putted around in the miners and
(17:38):
certainly done a good job. Certainly hit the ball, but
he couldn't crack this lineup. He couldn't do it, gets
his chance, hit a homer. It was a great moment
for the Dodgers, a great moment for Ryan Ward. Now
it's off to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks. The

Diamondbacks start six and a half games behind the Dodgers.
By the way, the Padres are five and a half
back a couple of weeks ago, the Padres were in
first place and we were sitting there kicking it around.
Oh you better watch out now, the Padres, please please,
you know how this goes. This is a marathon, not

a sprint. It's a novel, not a short story. And
the Dodgers play it like that. So now there's six
and a half up on Arizona heading into Chase Field
to take it on the Diamondbacks. For the Diamondbacks, it's
a pretty important series for the Dodgers, who are eight
and two in their last ten. It's the first day
(18:41):
of June. And by the way, this is the time
when Andrew Friedman starts to look at the roster and
figure out where he's at and what he needs. He'd
be the first one to tell you the first couple
of months of the season, we're just kind of getting
the training wheels off. We'll assess every thing and then
we decide what we need. So this will be a

much bigger series for the Diamondbacks than it will be
for the Dodgers. And I invite you if you're not
listening here on the radio station and you can watch
on TV, you tell me tomorrow if that game at
Chase Field tonight doesn't seem like a Dodger home game. Seriously,
watch it. When you see the shots of the crowd,

how many Dodger jerseys, what you see. It wasn't always
like that. It was not always like that. A few
years back, you might remember you had some Dodger fans
sitting directly behind home plate, so they were right in
the camera's eye. Couldn't miss them sitting there, proud to
be wearing their Dodger gear. And the Diamondbacks owner said,
(19:48):
either take off those those jerseys or you're gonna have
to move because we're not going to allow you to
be on TV every single pitch. I think, and I
could be wrong, but I think what happened was they
finally gave him some like Diamondback shirts or something to
put on because they weren't gonna move, they weren't gonna
change seats. So when you go to that game in Phoenix,
(20:13):
you see how many Dodger fans there are. That's not
a long haul. That's an easy lift to get over
to Phoenix for a couple of games. So that'll be
interesting tonight just to see what the crowd is like
at Chase Field injury updates Number one. Glass Now recovery
has not been progressing as well as expected. Tyler Glass
(20:36):
Now felt something. They put him on the il. He's
not progressed from playing cats yet. That's a problem. Thankfully,
the Dodgers have enough pitching. But that's a problem. On
the other hand, he usually gets hurt at one point
or another, so maybe he's just going through it now.

It's like Blake Snell. Blake Snell all always gets dinged
up at some point during the season. I was surprised
he came back when he did. I guess thankfully he
came back because then they found the loose bodies hanging
around at his elbow, so he can get that fixed.
If these guys are back near or after the All
Star break, it's fine. And what team has a luxury

of saying that if they're back close to the All
Star break a little bit after, they're fine. There's no
team in baseball that has that luxury, but the Dodgers do.
This is really said, though rooster Grattol could be out
for the season after undergoing back surgery. The Bazooka guy
(21:39):
just can't catch a break. Everybody loves them you know
his arm is a rifle, it's a cannon. But once
the injury started piling on and he'd rehab, he came
back last year he tried, got hurt again. He cried
because he'd worked so hard. I do have to say this,
(22:00):
if in fact he's out for the season, I would
not be surprised to see the Dodgers wave him now.
If he's healthy, they could resign him obviously, or maybe
he could hook on somewhere else. But that is a
career that has been devastated by injuries. And I remember
we had him at Hollywood Park and I asked him,
(22:23):
how did you learn to throw so hard? And he said,
growing up, he would take rocks and throw them up
at coconuts on trees and try to knock the coconut off.
And he said he had to throw it so hard
to knock off the coconut. That's how he developed this
ability to throw so hard. Everybody loves them. I think
it's really sad. Somehow, some way, it would be great

if he could come back, but I'm telling you it
doesn't look promising now this So. In an article published today,
Jim Bowden was on the show last week. Former big
league general manager, not rights for the athletic list the
top seven destinations for Trek Skoobel. Who's number one on

the list. Yeah, the Doctors. Of course they are number
one on the list. First, they have more to give
up than anybody, and I think in this scenario they
won't be shy. It was they want a major league
ready pitcher, all right, that would be Sheana Robleski Zayirhope,
(23:29):
their young stud outfield prospect. He'd probably have to go
as well. As a matter of fact, and they know
far more than we do, will mortgage the farm, give
them everything. In my mind, give them everything is like
give them nine players. It doesn't work that way. You
give them three guys that can play and maybe you know,
(23:54):
a major league pitcher, a top prospect, and maybe two
others that would be considered a very big deal for
one player. But that's what you'd have to do to
get Trek Skoogle And why wouldn't this be his number
one destination? Now here's this So you want to make
that move, and you want to try to get it
(24:15):
done before well if you can, before the trade deadline,
and then you want to get him signed because on
that new CBA kicks in, it's going to change the
game dramatically and you may not be able to spend
as much. So the advantage is you come here, we'll
(24:38):
take care of you. We'll get to hooked up right now,
and you won't be impacted by the new CBA. That's
why if they make this move, at least in my opinion,
you've got to get this guy signed because if the
playing field is leveled going forward, who knows what that means.
(25:00):
You got to get them signed. So he is number
one according to Jim Bowden, the Dodgers number one on
his destination list. Keep an eye on that as well.
Tiger's made a mistake. They thought they should go for it. Yeah,
we got a chance to win this year, so we're
not going to m before the season started. Okay, Well,
you kind of hurt yourself already. You kind of already

did that because you should have moved them before the
season starts. Because here's the deal. You need to move
guys you can't sign. You need to move them. If
it gets to a point where you know you cannot
sign them, you've got to move them and get all
you can to create this feeling of sustained success. All right,
(25:41):
we traded them away. We got four guys. These four
guys can all help us. These four guys will all
play for us, or eventually or quickly will play for us.
So you make that move. Tigers didn't do that. They
took the audio. Moreno approach over my dead body. We're
not sending him anywhere. Moreno had two times to trade show.

Hey o, Tani didn't do it. What'd you get? Nothing?
And as Bill Plaski wrote, sell the team. So the
Tigers need to move him. They should have done it already.
They catch a break because people will still give a lot.

But at this point in the season, does everybody have
the same amount to give. I think the Dodgers have
more to offer than anybody. Now. They lost out on
some move. Mason Miller was the guy they lost out
on the closer that went to the Padres. They weren't
willing to offer that package because Oakland made up pretty
well in that Dodgers weren't willing to offer that package.

But I think they will be willing to offer a
good sized package for Trek Scoubel. Last Dodger note, and
this is really troubling. I think it's the biggest thing
of the day. I mean, Miles Garrett trade is huge,
huge for the Rams and sports. I think this is
life now. If you didn't hear about it, Tanner Scott
(27:06):
did not look good in the game on Saturday night.
He kind of reverted back to last year. It's probably
an aberration. He's looked really good this season, but nobody's perfect. Okay,
I had a bet out it. After that game on
social media, Tanner Scott's wife received death threats about their newborn.
(27:28):
Can you imagine death threats about their newborn? People threatened
the life of their child. Now you can sit here
and say, ah, they're not gonna do anything. The ys
are just pissed off. You know, maybe they had a
bet on the game, or they're just huge Dodger fans.

That's not real. Well, first, it is very real if
a George child they're threatening, and it's even more real
if the mom finds out about it. Tanner Scott's wife
saw that. Think about this, What would you do if

somebody threatened your child? What would you do? I don't
think you'd sit there and arbitrarily go, well, you know
that guy's having a bad day. You wouldn't react that way,
would you. No, you wouldn't. You'd be upset, and quite frankly,
you'd be scared. That's your child, and some lunatic who

either lost the bet on the game or is a
huge fan. And I think it's more gambling than anything
threatened the life of your child. That is fundamentally incorrect.
It is abhorrent behavior. It is imposing on someone's life.

Just because you have wagered and lost, that's on you.
That's your problem. You know what you tried, you lost,
that's on you. That's not on the new born of
Tanner Scott and his wife. It's not that problem. And

again you can think, eh, you know how people are. Oh,
I get that too. I'm telling you, if your mom
and someone threatens the life of your child, you're gonna
have a very different reaction, aren't you. Aren't you tough guy,
aren't you?

That was wrong on so many levels, and honestly, and
those that were posted on social media, I hope those
were screen grabbed by somebody, because a threat is a threat,
and even if you're drunk or pissed off and you
just lost two hundred bucks, you can't do that. And

you certainly can't do that in today's world where people
are terrified to walk around. I think his wife wrote,
It's only a game. It is a game. If you
get that so invested in that, I have to tell you,
you're probably missing something in your life. Your life is empty,

it is vacant. If you resort to that type of thing,
you are an empty person. You are not fulfilled, you
are not happy, and you're gonna walk around and brag
and yell and boast. You're not anybody that could do
that type of thing as a human being is miserable,
(30:48):
miserable on the inside. And sure you could say just
mean and bad. I just think miserable. I think so
miserable that you can't even find I know who They are.
So wrong, so so wrong, and it probably has a

lot to do again, just with gambling and you lost money,
then don't gamble, but don't threaten the life of people.
It's wrong on so many levels. Last thing about the
weekend in baseball. If you saw the Dodger game yesterday,

the plate umpire was Sean Barber. Oh. One more thing.
Erica Weston, who is the field reporter for the Angels.
I want to touch on this for a second. Does
a good job? Does a good job? I saw a
tweet she sent out, please stop with my makeup, Please
stop telling me it's too pink. Yeah, people are attacking

her because of her makeup. They were attacking her to
a point where she had to say please stop. You
can say, well, you should just ignore that stuff, and
actually you kind of should, but that doesn't always work
that way when somebody hurts you. So leave her alone.

her alone, because I guess people were going right at her.

that rant. Now the final thing of the weekend umpire
Sean Barber. He's been an umpire for years. He had
the plate in the Dodger Philly game. Did you see this?
He could have had one of the worst games and

is a good umpire. He could have had one of
the worst games of anybody this season. He had eight
calls overturned, eight behind the plate, and by the way,
there were a couple that should have been challenged. Imagine
if there was no ABS, that would be one of

those games where you'd have said, God, the umpire was awful.
Eight calls overturned. But here's the key. How do he
become a major league umpire? For a period of time
in my life, I wanted to. I thought it would
have been really cool. Then I took a job where
I got paid to talk because I wouldn't shut up.

Been doing it for years? Why did he become an umpire?
What drives you to that line of work? Well, he
graduated from high school in Lakeland, Florida. He actually started
working as an umpire at the age of fifteen in

Little League baseball. Then he enrolled at a community college,
a two year school. While he was in college, after
his freshman year, he was working at a pet store. Okay, well,
kid wants to make a couple of bucks in the summer,
that's great. While he was at the pet store, an
(34:24):
eel bid him it went right through the bone of
his right hand, near his thumb. He had to have
twenty seven stitches three weeks before the start of his
sophomore year in college. Now he was very concerned. He
was a good student, took copious notes, but he had
(34:46):
twenty seven stitches in his right hand, so he couldn't
take notes. He couldn't write. Im I can only imagine
what a freak accident an eel bites through your hand.
So he couldn't go back to school because he couldn't write,
he couldn't take notes. He said, I'm gonna be an umpire.
(35:07):
That's who he became. An umpire. That's what happened to him.
An eel bit through his hand. He couldn't write. He goes,
I got it, major gumpire. That's a job for me.
He became an umpire. You never know what your life's
path is going to be. I'll tell you one thing.

Knicks lovable? First? I think san Antonio delivered a very
powerful message to okayc on Saturday, and probably to the
whole league as well. You can't stop Wemby. He's going
to impose his will. He's twenty two years old. He's

only going to get better. I don't think we've ever
seen anything like him. Sure, we've made the point when
Kareem started, he reinvented that center position. Yeah, then one
hundred percent, But this is insane. The guy can shoot
from thirty five feet. He's enormous. I mean, they don't

make that model very often. And san Antonio's got him
on a young core around him. Okay, see, really at
the end of it, they were lucky to survive that
and I know it went to a Game seven. I
got it. But man, that was a statement. That was
a message, That was a message to the West, that

was a message to the league. I'm here. I just
don't think he gets the coronation this year because for
whatever reason, they hated Knicks or America's team. People are
rooting for the Knicks. There's huge betting money on the Knicks.
So are you're rooting for the Knicks or the story
because there's a difference. The Knicks haven't won forever. They're

from New York. You know the fans. If you're from LA,
you probably hate the fans in New York. They're running around,
they're climbing poles, they're celebrating after a conference championship. I mean,
but it's been a long time. It's been a very
long time. So really what this comes down to is

the Knicks against when that's really what it comes down to,
the Knicks against Wimby. I could be wrong, but I
think the stage will be too big for the Spurs. Now,
they'll go out and blow them out now, But I
do think the stage will be too big for the Spurs,
and I think that's why the Knicks will win the series. Again.

You know, San Antonio will win four games to one,
but I think the Knicks will win the series. I
just think the stage is too big, and for whatever reason,
people are like, oh my god, the Knicks. This is great.
Don't you understand most people hate the Knicks. If you're
not from New York, you don't like the Knicks, But
in this scenario, people like the Knicks, and I don't know.

Maybe they think they can slay the Giant. But for
san Antonio, I think it's gonna be too much. I
just do understand. The Knicks play in New York all
the time, so they know what that spotlight is like,
like playing a Dodger stadium Net Colletti with the lights
of the brightest you play at Madison Square Garden. You
feel it, you get it, you know it. And in

the front row of MSG, you'll see all the celebrities
lined up. They'll all be there, even if they're not
basketball fans, they'll be there. Tell Methy Chalame is a
basketball fan, by the way, he'll be there. Spike Lee
he'll be there, Tracy Morgan will be there, maybe Ben
Stiller will be there. They'll all be there. This is it,

This is the moment, and I think the Nicks will
win it. So then you have to focus your attention
on what's next. So let's focus on what's next. For
the Lakers. They couldn't beat Okasey. They weren't going to,
by the way, and you knew that even if Luca played,
(40:47):
they couldn't beat him. Now you see the monster that
san Antonio is. Can we agree they can't beat the
Spurs either. I think that's a fair assessment. By the way,
there's talk that lou dort of Okac he could be
a target for the Lakers. It is a great kid.
He played at Arizona State, defensive wizard. Can't really shoot,

but he can play defense anyway. So if you have
the Lakers, what do you do? I mean, Lebron has
proposed his plan. You better tell me what you're gonna
do or I'm not going to play for the money
you offer. Don't play. Don't play, Lebron, You're not going
to beat the Spurs. There I said it. Lebron and

Austin Reeves are not going to beat the Spurs. Lebron
and Austin Reeves couldn't beat Okay. See you add Luca
to the mix. Here's the issue. The Lakers have been
built on stars, and it was Jerry Busted did that.
And it was a formula that worked. Not only did
it provide success on the court, but it put people
in the seats, and that was the objective, right sell tickets.

So he built stars and those were his teams, and
they were great when they were great, but things evolve
and things change. Now. The NBA has always been a
start driven league, more individualized. That's how they promote it,
pictures of the player team against team. But with the Dodgor,

guy's taking over now and had a different philosophy. I
don't know if that's how you build this anymore. I
really don't. And it just strikes me because and Lebron
has every right to do whatever he wants, but you know,
you better show me what's the plan or I'm not
gonna take less. Let's try differently. This is what we're offering.

You can take it or leave it. This is what
we're doing. If this is the amount of money, if
you can go around and find more, or you want
to leave, you let us know. But by X date,
you got to let us know, because that's how we're
gonna do it. You never hear that stuff with the Dodgers.
You never hear anybody say, well, you know, you better

show me. They'll show you, all right, they'll show you
the door. They'll be happy to show you the door.
We're good, we can figure it out. So I think
there needs to be a mind shift, a different way
of doing this. So then that leads to this question,
you want to get better or do you want to
win a title? And it changes. It's fluid what it

takes to win a title. You know, there were years
where the league was just pound the hell out of
each other. All right, you better be ready to pound.
There were years where you needed two stars and you
could win. There were years when it was just fire
all from anywhere. Steph Curry, what do you need to win? Now?

How do you start building sustained success? Lucas moving into
his late twenty So now we're getting right to that
period of time where something better happen. You need an
athletic team and a quick team. That's how you have
to build this. I don't think they can keep relying

on stars to solve everything. They need athleticism, they need depth,
and they need youth. That's how you get back into
this thing. Not wheeling guys out there. Well we've got Lebron,
Yeah and you didn't win. Well you got one, okay,
Well that was then. This is now. I always say this,

what do you expect? I think people expect you to
win every year. That's the expectation. You can't but they
expect it, and if you don't, you better be close.
And if you're not, you better figure out what to
do to get close. Aren't close? The Clippers aren't close.

For that matter. I get the Clippers credit because they're
always trying something different. Might not work, but they sure try.
They'll make them move here, they'll make them move there.
They're not afraid. They get it. If it's not working,
we're in no man's land. We got to do something.
Does it make them better? Maybe? Does it keep them

flat or the same? Sure? Does it make them worse? No,
it doesn't make them worse. You've got to give them credit.
When they make a move. It doesn't make them worse.
It makes them different, but not worse. Well, the Lakers
make them move. And I don't even think it makes
a difference half the time, except for Luca. Tell me

what ancillary guy. If the Lakers brought in you go, wow,
Now that's the key to success. That's the missing piece
of the puzzle. Who rue solid? Jared Vanderbilt not so much?
Think about it. Marcus Smart, Okay, where's that guy? Where's

that's the guy that's gonna turn it around? And maybe
not the guy that makes fifty million dollars a year.
It's for the Lakers that compete in a world where
San Antonio put it on okayc and probably established itself
as the new leader in the West, regardless of what
happens against the Knicks. That to the Lakers are staring at,

how do you beat that? What do you do? You
can't do it the same way. You just can't. And
I think that's the dilemma the Lakers find themselves in
next story of the day, the Rams pulled the trigger

on an earth shattering move and Signor will join us.

you had a terrific weekend. Bennie bon Signor will be

two hour show, and of course we'll get into what
happened with the Dodgers over the weekend against the Phillies.
Plus the Dodgers are in Arizona, another one of those. Okay,
it's a litmus test, well it is for the Diamondbacks.

Arizona has been playing really well. Dodgers have been quietly
going about their business. Took two of three against the Phillies.
So for Arizona it's a litmus test, and for the
Dodgers it's a four game series that begins on June first.
All right, But the big news, and I don't know
if you heard about this, happened a little earlier this morning.
The Rams pulled the trigger on a major move. The
(00:46):
Rams had been in pursuit of Miles Garrett since March.
Miles Garrett, the All Pro defensive player from Cleveland, and
the Rams closed the deal. This is massive, This is massive.
The Rams went out and got arguably the best defensive
player in the NFL. They closed the deal this morning.
(01:09):
The clubs haven't announced it yet, but everybody else has
announced it, so it's a done deal. The Rams were
told by the Browns no deal would get done without
including Oh, but they did have to give up Verse. Yeah,
so they gave up a pretty good player in return.
But here's the bottom line. The Rams did go out
(01:31):
and get Miles Garrett. You understand what that means. Ultimately,
the Rams are certainly in it to win it. Yeah,
they gave up Pass Russer, Jared Verse, a talented young player.
They gave up multiple picks. But to get something like that,
you've got to give something up. Do we want to
see Verse go? No, you really don't. But when you
(01:55):
got a two time defensive Player of the Year in
Miles Garrett, you make the move necessary to make the move.
The Browns also receive a first round pick in twenty
twenty seven, a second round picking twenty twenty eight, a
third rounder in twenty twenty nine. This is one of
the biggest trades in NFL history involving a defensive player.
So what does that mean The Rams are locked and loaded. Yes,
(02:18):
they gave up a very talented young player, but in
return they've got a showstopper. And if you look at
what they have done now during the offseason, and even
when you go back to the draft and oh my god,
they took Ty Simpson. Why didn't they take somebody that
could help them now? Because they're locked and loaded right now.
(02:39):
Arguably the Rams have the best roster in the National
Football League, and the Rams are certainly in a twenty.
You know, when Kevin Demoff came to town and the
Rams moved to LA and they made that deal where
they got Jared Goff with the first pick, he said,
go bigger, go home, because that's how you have to
succeed and win in lost hands. Since they've been here,
(03:02):
that's what they've done. Think about the moves they made
Matthew Stafford, it worked. I guess it could have failed,
but it worked. A move like this worked, it will work.
It will work big time. So what they have done
is they have integrated into the market with a total
(03:23):
understanding of how it works. And that's on Kevin Demoff
because he's from here and he knows LA. And now
they have put together a roster that is so superior
that they are the odds on favorite to win the
Super Bowl, quietly going about their business. And it's a
culture that's been created since they moved here and since
(03:45):
Sean McVay took over. Quite frankly, they have created a
culture very much like the Dodgers, and it's all centered
on winning. Everything is about that. They will do anything
they need to do. See. The great thing about the
Rams with less Need is that they don't stand pat
they don't say we're okay. They want to win it
(04:05):
every single year. And this move confirms it. This move
confirms it. The super Bowl, of course, is supposed to
be played at Sofi Stadium. This year, the Rams played
in the Super Bowl at Sofi Stadium. They'll have a
chance to play in another one now. And the infamous
f them picks, Well, the Rams gave up picks. But boy,
(04:29):
you've got to really believe that they did something that
put the league on notice. And I'm not saying that
people around the National Football League didn't realize, Oh the
Rams are for real. Oh They're for real. They are
really for real. And I think if you're an LA
sports fan, you have to be thrilled with this. You've
got a team committed to doing anything necessary to win.
(04:53):
You could make the argument, well they all do. I
mean the Chargers have. Yeah, the Chargers have made move.
They put together a good team. They've just never got
over the hump. And quite honestly, in all of the
moves they've made, they have never taken center stage above
the Rams. Even when they signed Jim Harbaugh, it was
a great signing those our biggest free agent signing in history,
(05:15):
Jim Harbaugh. But they have not superseded the Rams in
any way, shape or form. Look at LA sports teams. Now,
just take one second and consider this. So the Dodgers
are now the team of record in the market. They
have surpassed the Lakers. They're sustained and continued success has
(05:39):
leveled not only unleveled to playing field, but put them
number one, far and above everybody else. So the Rams
are number are. The Dodgers are number one the end.
Now let's go to number two and number three. This
market was always Dodgers, Lakers, Lakers, Dodgers, you pick, all right, Well,
now it's Dodgers. Once Alter's people get in there and
(06:01):
Lon Rose and starts figuring things out, we'll see if
the Lakers can get back to where they were. NBA's
different philosophy, the same sustained success. That's what they'll go after.
If in fact that happens, then they'll probably move back
into the number two slots. But right now, could you
make the argument, when you look at the best teams
(06:23):
in LA, you would say Dodgers number one, than who
would you say the Lakers? I wouldn't not now, I
would say the second best team in LA the Rams.
Now they had been gone forever, they have come back
(06:44):
and taken care of their business and given the way
they've operated, and again it all centers around Sean McVay
being hired as coach, I think now they are number
two in this market, behind the Dodgers. It's pretty incredible.
If you think about it's go to number three, probably
the Lakers name value alone, they'd always been there. So
(07:08):
you have Dodgers, Rams, Lakers, and then everybody else just
falls into line. You could say the Clippers, you could
say the Kinks, but I think those are your top
three now in USC used to be up there and
they're not even a pro team, but they have fallen now.
So the Rams have done something remarkable in a giant market.
(07:31):
And also understand this, when you're competing in Los Angeles.
It's not like you're competing in Kansas City or Pittsburgh.
This is a major market. This is New York. So
you better be pretty damn good and you better make
inroads quickly. And that's exactly what the Rams have done.
(07:55):
I mean, look at their defense. Now give it up,
Verse hurts because he's a young stud. Getting Miles Garrett
is unimaginable. Look at them. Now look at their defense. Okay,
well that's solidified. And now look at their offense, and
(08:17):
you know how high powered that is. So as we
move in now to training camp, we get through the summer,
we get the training camp, and then we kick off.
The Rams are the team to beat. They're the team
to beat in the National Football League. They were the
(08:37):
team to beat. And now with this deal that that's
the exclamation point, they're gonna be really, really tough. No,
they're not going unbeaten. Stop, nobody's going unbeaten. And that
doesn't even matter because what matters, as we've learned with
the Dodgers, is when when you need to be healthy
(08:58):
when it counts and get that momentum and you put
yourself in a position to win. That's what they've done.
As if the NFC West wasn't unnoticed, they're unnoticed now.
How about this, As if the NFC wasn't unnoticed, they're
unnoticed now. The Rams are taking no prisoners. I love this.
(09:22):
I love that they go for it every year. Sure
you can say, well, the Clippers go for it every year. Yeah,
it didn't work out. You give them credit. They made
a big deal when they acquired Kawhi and Paul George
didn't work out. The Dodger moves have worked out. And
a lot of reason the Dodger moves have worked out
is because if they don't, they have the money to
fix it. National Football Leagu's a hard cap, but somehow
(09:46):
less need is the master cap manipulator, and they do
very well picking in the late rounds. So you don't
need a first round pick because they can find them
in the fourth round. They can find them into the
fifth round. Well, if that's the case, other teams desperately
need those picks. You start moving them, you start going
(10:10):
for it. It's really a ballsy strategy and goes against the
conventional wisdom of building a team. But because they have
had such incredible success outside the top two rounds, no
big deal, No big deal. I'd argue that there's not
(10:34):
another team in the NFL that can do what the
Rams can do roster wise. I mean, look at the Cowboys.
The Cowboys and the Lakers are the same franchise, believe
it or not, because they're the Cowboys and because they're
the Lakers, at least in the past. The Lakers every
year you better watch for them. They're going to be
in it. No they're not. Oh they could win it
(10:54):
this year. No they won't, but they have that cachet
because of their brand recognition, but they weren't going to
win it. Now, look at the Rams quietly going about
their business, just doing it peace by peace, by peace.
(11:14):
They have not made many mistakes. Some of that is
dumb luck, some of that is preparation. Some of that
is just you're pretty smart making the moves, totle them
all up and you get to where they're at. So
I think you can make the argument that the Rams
(11:36):
have now surpassed the Lakers as the number two team
in Los Angeles. I know the Lakers have won the titles.
I gotta check Kobe Magic Kareem. Yes, yes, we know.
But right now, right now, I think it's the Rams.
So that means it's a pretty exciting time to be
a football fan in LA. If you're a Charge and
(12:01):
they're in the same city. Please don't think they don't
keep an eye on what the other one does, but
they have their own business to deal with. The Chargers
have been methodically moving and doing the kinds of things
to get them in a position to succeed. Justin Herbert
has not got them over the top yet. Mike McDaniel
is now the offensive coordinator. It will be his task
(12:23):
to unleash Justin Herbert, and it'll be the trainer's task
to keep their alignment healthy. Dave Damashak was on Friday,
It's funny I was thinking about this when I saw
this deal this morning. Dave said, his Super Bowl call
for so far this year is the Rams and the Chargers.
(12:43):
Don't mind boggling, that would be. I mean, you cannot
take your eyes off the Rams during the season now
you can't. You have to watch them. They're the Dodgers. No,
they have one two in a row, but they're the Dodgers.
They are loaded. I mean they are loaded. They can
(13:04):
impose their will. That's how good the Rams are now,
Just like the Dodgers. The Dodgers can impose their will.
They have the ability to do what they want to do.
Big picture, anything can happen. Guys can get hurt. It
(13:25):
could be issues in the locker room. Funny, you never
hear that with the Rams. You never hear that with
the Dodgers, do you. They do a terrific job of
taking care of their own business, of minding their own business.
They treat the players right. They want to be a
part of the organization and when someone comes here, they're appreciative.

We have not hurt from Miles Garrett yet. Because they
have to officially announce the deal. What do you think
he's going to say. What do you think he's going
to say. This is the worst moment of my life.
He's going to go, God, all I've wanted is to
be on a team that can win the Super Bowl,
and now I'm here. And he's not even a missing
(14:11):
piece of the puzzle. He's an additional piece to the puzzle.
They gave up a lot to get him, but man,
what they got in return. I just think it's super exciting,
super exciting for LA Sports, and super exciting if you're
a Rams fan. Okay, So for the Dodgers, it's the
(14:37):
first of four starting in June. For the Diamondbacks, they
could be thinking this will determine our season and that
is next.

They took two or three from the Phillies. The Phillies
came out of the blocks, looked terrible, fired their manager
but non mattingly and had been playing much better. So

give them credit there, but not enough for the Dodgers
over the weekend. So let's talk about a couple of
the things that stood out. Number one, Roki Sazaki, Dylan Hernandez,
and the Post wrote, you know, now we're starting to
see the real Roki Sazaki. This was an issue about
command and control. It's that simple command and control, and
(15:53):
he had to work his way through it. I mean,
we've sat here on the show and said, well, maybe
he should go down of Triple eight even after spring training.
You know, maybe he would benefit from going down to OKC.
But the Dodgers have the advantage because of the roster.
They have to give guys a chance and take time.
And remember they promised him when they signed him, because
(16:13):
he said, I'm going to go somewhere where they will
make me be the best, they will make me better,
and they said we're the guys to do it. So
they hung with him, and all of a sudden, now
you are starting to see him turn into a major
league pitcher. There's never a question about could he throw
(16:34):
the ball. Nobody ever argued that could he pitch? Well,
of course he could pitch. There was never a question
about that. The real question here was when would he
settle in and when would he learn to be a
big league pitcher. Well, over the weekend, he looked pretty good.
(16:55):
Over the weekend, has he turned the corners, he crossed
the bridge. I don't know, but let's just go one
step at a time, and I thought over the weekend,
that was a pretty important step. Ryan Ward homered. He
got called up when Tail was hurt. Hit his first
home run at Dodger Stadium, led the pc Ellen homers.
(17:17):
Simply nowhere else for him to go. I mean, he
could hit, but there's no way he could crack the
Dodger lineup. So he's back. He plays at Dodger Stadium.
He hits it out. Then Alex Friedland follows with a
home run. Great moment the two of them teammates and OKC.
But for Ryan Ward, that's a dream come true. Here's
a guy who has putted around in the miners and
(17:38):
certainly done a good job. Certainly hit the ball, but
he couldn't crack this lineup. He couldn't do it, gets
his chance, hit a homer. It was a great moment
for the Dodgers, a great moment for Ryan Ward. Now
it's off to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks. The

Diamondbacks start six and a half games behind the Dodgers.
By the way, the Padres are five and a half
back a couple of weeks ago, the Padres were in
first place and we were sitting there kicking it around.
Oh you better watch out now, the Padres, please please,
you know how this goes. This is a marathon, not

a sprint. It's a novel, not a short story. And
the Dodgers play it like that. So now there's six
and a half up on Arizona heading into Chase Field
to take it on the Diamondbacks. For the Diamondbacks, it's
a pretty important series for the Dodgers, who are eight
and two in their last ten. It's the first day

of June. And by the way, this is the time
when Andrew Friedman starts to look at the roster and
figure out where he's at and what he needs. He'd
be the first one to tell you the first couple
of months of the season, we're just kind of getting
the training wheels off. We'll assess every thing and then
we decide what we need. So this will be a

much bigger series for the Diamondbacks than it will be
for the Dodgers. And I invite you if you're not

Chase Field tonight doesn't seem like a Dodger home game. Seriously,
watch it. When you see the shots of the crowd,

how many Dodger jerseys, what you see. It wasn't always
like that. It was not always like that. A few
years back, you might remember you had some Dodger fans
sitting directly behind home plate, so they were right in
the camera's eye. Couldn't miss them sitting there, proud to
be wearing their Dodger gear. And the Diamondbacks owner said,

either take off those those jerseys or you're gonna have
to move because we're not going to allow you to
be on TV every single pitch. I think, and I
could be wrong, but I think what happened was they
finally gave him some like Diamondback shirts or something to
put on because they weren't gonna move, they weren't gonna
change seats. So when you go to that game in Phoenix,

you see how many Dodger fans there are. That's not
a long haul. That's an easy lift to get over
to Phoenix for a couple of games. So that'll be
interesting tonight just to see what the crowd is like
at Chase Field injury updates Number one. Glass Now recovery

up at some point during the season. I was surprised
he came back when he did. I guess thankfully he

If these guys are back near or after the All
Star break, it's fine. And what team has a luxury

of saying that if they're back close to the All
Star break a little bit after, they're fine. There's no
team in baseball that has that luxury, but the Dodgers do.
This is really said, though rooster Grattol could be out
for the season after undergoing back surgery. The Bazooka guy

just can't catch a break. Everybody loves them you know
his arm is a rifle, it's a cannon. But once
the injury started piling on and he'd rehab, he came
back last year he tried, got hurt again. He cried
because he'd worked so hard. I do have to say this,

if in fact he's out for the season, I would
not be surprised to see the Dodgers wave him now.
If he's healthy, they could resign him obviously, or maybe
he could hook on somewhere else. But that is a
career that has been devastated by injuries. And I remember
we had him at Hollywood Park and I asked him,

how did you learn to throw so hard? And he said,
growing up, he would take rocks and throw them up
at coconuts on trees and try to knock the coconut off.
And he said he had to throw it so hard
to knock off the coconut. That's how he developed this
ability to throw so hard. Everybody loves them. I think
it's really sad. Somehow, some way, it would be great

if he could come back, but I'm telling you it
doesn't look promising now this So. In an article published today,
Jim Bowden was on the show last week. Former big
league general manager, not rights for the athletic list the
top seven destinations for Trek Skoobel. Who's number one on

the list. Yeah, the Doctors. Of course they are number
one on the list. First, they have more to give
up than anybody, and I think in this scenario they
won't be shy. It was they want a major league
ready pitcher, all right, that would be Sheana Robleski Zayirhope,

their young stud outfield prospect. He'd probably have to go
as well. As a matter of fact, and they know
far more than we do, will mortgage the farm, give
them everything. In my mind, give them everything is like
give them nine players. It doesn't work that way. You
give them three guys that can play and maybe you know,

a major league pitcher, a top prospect, and maybe two
others that would be considered a very big deal for
one player. But that's what you'd have to do to
get Trek Skoogle And why wouldn't this be his number
one destination? Now here's this So you want to make
that move, and you want to try to get it

done before well if you can, before the trade deadline,
and then you want to get him signed because on
that new CBA kicks in, it's going to change the
game dramatically and you may not be able to spend
as much. So the advantage is you come here, we'll
(24:38):
take care of you. We'll get to hooked up right now,
and you won't be impacted by the new CBA. That's
why if they make this move, at least in my opinion,
you've got to get this guy signed because if the
playing field is leveled going forward, who knows what that means.
(25:00):
You got to get them signed. So he is number
one according to Jim Bowden, the Dodgers number one on
his destination list. Keep an eye on that as well.
Tiger's made a mistake. They thought they should go for it. Yeah,
we got a chance to win this year, so we're
not going to m before the season started. Okay, Well,
you kind of hurt yourself already. You kind of already
(25:20):
did that because you should have moved them before the
season starts. Because here's the deal. You need to move
guys you can't sign. You need to move them. If
it gets to a point where you know you cannot
sign them, you've got to move them and get all
you can to create this feeling of sustained success. All right,
(25:41):
we traded them away. We got four guys. These four
guys can all help us. These four guys will all
play for us, or eventually or quickly will play for us.
So you make that move. Tigers didn't do that. They
took the audio. Moreno approach over my dead body. We're
not sending him anywhere. Moreno had two times to trade show.

Hey o, Tani didn't do it. What'd you get? Nothing?
And as Bill Plaski wrote, sell the team. So the
Tigers need to move him. They should have done it already.
They catch a break because people will still give a lot.

But at this point in the season, does everybody have
the same amount to give. I think the Dodgers have
more to offer than anybody. Now. They lost out on
some move. Mason Miller was the guy they lost out
on the closer that went to the Padres. They weren't
willing to offer that package because Oakland made up pretty
well in that Dodgers weren't willing to offer that package.

But I think they will be willing to offer a
good sized package for Trek Scoubel. Last Dodger note, and
this is really troubling. I think it's the biggest thing
of the day. I mean, Miles Garrett trade is huge,
huge for the Rams and sports. I think this is
life now. If you didn't hear about it, Tanner Scott

did not look good in the game on Saturday night.
He kind of reverted back to last year. It's probably
an aberration. He's looked really good this season, but nobody's perfect. Okay,
I had a bet out it. After that game on
social media, Tanner Scott's wife received death threats about their newborn.

Can you imagine death threats about their newborn? People threatened
the life of their child. Now you can sit here
and say, ah, they're not gonna do anything. The ys
are just pissed off. You know, maybe they had a
bet on the game, or they're just huge Dodger fans.

That's not real. Well, first, it is very real if
a George child they're threatening, and it's even more real
if the mom finds out about it. Tanner Scott's wife
saw that. Think about this, What would you do if

somebody threatened your child? What would you do? I don't
think you'd sit there and arbitrarily go, well, you know
that guy's having a bad day. You wouldn't react that way,
would you. No, you wouldn't. You'd be upset, and quite frankly,
you'd be scared. That's your child, and some lunatic who
(28:38):
either lost the bet on the game or is a
huge fan. And I think it's more gambling than anything
threatened the life of your child. That is fundamentally incorrect.
It is abhorrent behavior. It is imposing on someone's life.
(28:59):
Just because you have wagered and lost, that's on you.
That's your problem. You know what you tried, you lost,
that's on you. That's not on the new born of
Tanner Scott and his wife. It's not that problem. And

again you can think, eh, you know how people are. Oh,
I get that too. I'm telling you, if your mom
and someone threatens the life of your child, you're gonna
have a very different reaction, aren't you. Aren't you tough guy,
aren't you?

That was wrong on so many levels, and honestly, and
those that were posted on social media, I hope those
were screen grabbed by somebody, because a threat is a threat,
and even if you're drunk or pissed off and you

you certainly can't do that in today's world where people
are terrified to walk around. I think his wife wrote,
It's only a game. It is a game. If you
get that so invested in that, I have to tell you,
you're probably missing something in your life. Your life is empty,

it is vacant. If you resort to that type of thing,
you are an empty person. You are not fulfilled, you
are not happy, and you're gonna walk around and brag
and yell and boast. You're not anybody that could do
that type of thing as a human being is miserable,
(30:48):
miserable on the inside. And sure you could say just
mean and bad. I just think miserable. I think so
miserable that you can't even find I know who They are.
So wrong, so so wrong, and it probably has a

lot to do again, just with gambling and you lost money,
then don't gamble, but don't threaten the life of people.
It's wrong on so many levels. Last thing about the
weekend in baseball. If you saw the Dodger game yesterday,

the plate umpire was Sean Barber. Oh. One more thing.

I want to touch on this for a second. Does
a good job? Does a good job? I saw a
tweet she sent out, please stop with my makeup, Please
stop telling me it's too pink. Yeah, people are attacking

her because of her makeup. They were attacking her to
a point where she had to say please stop. You
can say, well, you should just ignore that stuff, and
actually you kind of should, but that doesn't always work
that way when somebody hurts you. So leave her alone.

She didn't do anything. I don't even know her. Leave
her alone, because I guess people were going right at her.
Your makeup is too pink. It's to this. It's like,
who cares? Who cares? Here's a secret. She's doing something

that rant. Now the final thing of the weekend umpire
Sean Barber. He's been an umpire for years. He had
the plate in the Dodger Philly game. Did you see this?
He could have had one of the worst games and

is a good umpire. He could have had one of
the worst games of anybody this season. He had eight
calls overturned, eight behind the plate, and by the way,
there were a couple that should have been challenged. Imagine
if there was no ABS, that would be one of

those games where you'd have said, God, the umpire was awful.
Eight calls overturned. But here's the key. How do he
become a major league umpire? For a period of time
in my life, I wanted to. I thought it would
have been really cool. Then I took a job where
I got paid to talk because I wouldn't shut up.
(33:40):
I got in a radio. But how did Sean Barber accomplished? Umpire?
Been doing it for years? Why did he become an umpire?
What drives you to that line of work? Well, he
graduated from high school in Lakeland, Florida. He actually started
working as an umpire at the age of fifteen in
(34:00):
Little League baseball. Then he enrolled at a community college,
a two year school. While he was in college, after
his freshman year, he was working at a pet store. Okay, well,
kid wants to make a couple of bucks in the summer,
that's great. While he was at the pet store, an
(34:24):
eel bid him it went right through the bone of
his right hand, near his thumb. He had to have
twenty seven stitches three weeks before the start of his
sophomore year in college. Now he was very concerned. He
was a good student, took copious notes, but he had
(34:46):
twenty seven stitches in his right hand, so he couldn't
take notes. He couldn't write. Im I can only imagine
what a freak accident an eel bites through your hand.
So he couldn't go back to school because he couldn't write,
he couldn't take notes. He said, I'm gonna be an umpire.
(35:07):
That's who he became. An umpire. That's what happened to him.
An eel bit through his hand. He couldn't write. He goes,
I got it, major gumpire. That's a job for me.
He became an umpire. You never know what your life's
path is going to be. I'll tell you one thing.

Yesterday is a day that Sean Barber would love to forget. Okay,
as far as the NBA is concerned, who is America's team?

the challenge is fun, people love the challenge, so that
has worked. But again, the people at home can never
know more than the people playing or on the field,
or on the court or on the ice. It doesn't work.

That's why you need those challenges. All right, Are the
Knicks lovable? First? I think san Antonio delivered a very
powerful message to okayc on Saturday, and probably to the
whole league as well. You can't stop Wemby. He's going
to impose his will. He's twenty two years old. He's

only going to get better. I don't think we've ever
seen anything like him. Sure, we've made the point when
Kareem started, he reinvented that center position. Yeah, then one
hundred percent, But this is insane. The guy can shoot
from thirty five feet. He's enormous. I mean, they don't

make that model very often. And san Antonio's got him
on a young core around him. Okay, see, really at
the end of it, they were lucky to survive that
and I know it went to a Game seven. I
got it. But man, that was a statement. That was
a message, That was a message to the West, that

was a message to the league. I'm here. I just
don't think he gets the coronation this year because for
whatever reason, they hated Knicks or America's team. People are
rooting for the Knicks. There's huge betting money on the Knicks.
So are you're rooting for the Knicks or the story
because there's a difference. The Knicks haven't won forever. They're

from New York. You know the fans. If you're from LA,
you probably hate the fans in New York. They're running around,
they're climbing poles, they're celebrating after a conference championship. I mean,
but it's been a long time. It's been a very
long time. So really what this comes down to is

the Knicks against when that's really what it comes down to,
the Knicks against Wimby. I could be wrong, but I
think the stage will be too big for the Spurs. Now,
they'll go out and blow them out now, But I
do think the stage will be too big for the Spurs,
and I think that's why the Knicks will win the series. Again.

You know, San Antonio will win four games to one,
but I think the Knicks will win the series. I
just think the stage is too big, and for whatever reason,
people are like, oh my god, the Knicks. This is great.
Don't you understand most people hate the Knicks. If you're
not from New York, you don't like the Knicks, But
in this scenario, people like the Knicks, and I don't know.

Maybe they think they can slay the Giant. But for
san Antonio, I think it's gonna be too much. I
just do understand. The Knicks play in New York all
the time, so they know what that spotlight is like,
like playing a Dodger stadium Net Colletti with the lights
of the brightest you play at Madison Square Garden. You
feel it, you get it, you know it. And in

the front row of MSG, you'll see all the celebrities
lined up. They'll all be there, even if they're not
basketball fans, they'll be there. Tell Methy Chalame is a
basketball fan, by the way, he'll be there. Spike Lee
he'll be there, Tracy Morgan will be there, maybe Ben
Stiller will be there. They'll all be there. This is it,

This is the moment, and I think the Nicks will
win it. So then you have to focus your attention
on what's next. So let's focus on what's next. For
the Lakers. They couldn't beat Okasey. They weren't going to,
by the way, and you knew that even if Luca played,

they couldn't beat him. Now you see the monster that
san Antonio is. Can we agree they can't beat the
Spurs either. I think that's a fair assessment. By the way,
there's talk that lou dort of Okac he could be
a target for the Lakers. It is a great kid.
He played at Arizona State, defensive wizard. Can't really shoot,

but he can play defense anyway. So if you have
the Lakers, what do you do? I mean, Lebron has
proposed his plan. You better tell me what you're gonna
do or I'm not going to play for the money
you offer. Don't play. Don't play, Lebron, You're not going
to beat the Spurs. There I said it. Lebron and

Austin Reeves are not going to beat the Spurs. Lebron
and Austin Reeves couldn't beat Okay. See you add Luca
to the mix. Here's the issue. The Lakers have been
built on stars, and it was Jerry Busted did that.
And it was a formula that worked. Not only did
it provide success on the court, but it put people
in the seats, and that was the objective, right sell tickets.

So he built stars and those were his teams, and
they were great when they were great, but things evolve
and things change. Now. The NBA has always been a
start driven league, more individualized. That's how they promote it,
pictures of the player team against team. But with the Dodgor,

guy's taking over now and had a different philosophy. I
don't know if that's how you build this anymore. I
really don't. And it just strikes me because and Lebron
has every right to do whatever he wants, but you know,
you better show me what's the plan or I'm not
gonna take less. Let's try differently. This is what we're offering.

You can take it or leave it. This is what
we're doing. If this is the amount of money, if
you can go around and find more, or you want
to leave, you let us know. But by X date,
you got to let us know, because that's how we're
gonna do it. You never hear that stuff with the Dodgers.
You never hear anybody say, well, you know, you better

show me. They'll show you, all right, they'll show you
the door. They'll be happy to show you the door.
We're good, we can figure it out. So I think
there needs to be a mind shift, a different way
of doing this. So then that leads to this question,
you want to get better or do you want to
win a title? And it changes. It's fluid what it

takes to win a title. You know, there were years
where the league was just pound the hell out of
each other. All right, you better be ready to pound.
There were years where you needed two stars and you
could win. There were years when it was just fire
all from anywhere. Steph Curry, what do you need to win? Now?

How do you start building sustained success? Lucas moving into
his late twenty So now we're getting right to that
period of time where something better happen. You need an
athletic team and a quick team. That's how you have
to build this. I don't think they can keep relying
(44:18):
on stars to solve everything. They need athleticism, they need depth,
and they need youth. That's how you get back into
this thing. Not wheeling guys out there. Well we've got Lebron,
Yeah and you didn't win. Well you got one, okay,
Well that was then. This is now. I always say this,
(44:42):
what do you expect? I think people expect you to
win every year. That's the expectation. You can't but they
expect it, and if you don't, you better be close.
And if you're not, you better figure out what to
do to get close. Aren't close? The Clippers aren't close.

For that matter. I get the Clippers credit because they're
always trying something different. Might not work, but they sure try.
They'll make them move here, they'll make them move there.
They're not afraid. They get it. If it's not working,
we're in no man's land. We got to do something.
Does it make them better? Maybe? Does it keep them

flat or the same? Sure? Does it make them worse? No,
it doesn't make them worse. You've got to give them credit.
When they make a move. It doesn't make them worse.
It makes them different, but not worse. Well, the Lakers
make them move. And I don't even think it makes
a difference half the time, except for Luca. Tell me

what ancillary guy. If the Lakers brought in you go, wow,
Now that's the key to success. That's the missing piece
of the puzzle. Who rue solid? Jared Vanderbilt not so much?
Think about it. Marcus Smart, Okay, where's that guy? Where's

that's the guy that's gonna turn it around? And maybe
not the guy that makes fifty million dollars a year.
It's for the Lakers that compete in a world where
San Antonio put it on okayc and probably established itself
as the new leader in the West, regardless of what
happens against the Knicks. That to the Lakers are staring at,

how do you beat that? What do you do? You
can't do it the same way. You just can't. And
I think that's the dilemma the Lakers find themselves in
next story of the day, the Rams pulled the trigger

on an earth shattering move and Signor will join us.
