Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, let's do it two hours today. Bred Rogan
and Jonas Knoxton for Rodney on a five seventy LA Sports. Jonas,
how are you today? Hello?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Fred? How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:11):
I'm fine, Jonas. Did I catch off Guarden?
Speaker 3 (00:13):
I mean no, no, sorry, a little bit of a
technical issue with my mic here, But I'm good.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
We're good to go.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Everything everything's fine, Yeah, you know, I'm just you know,
I'm just making sure everything. You know, everybody's okay with
what's happening here, that's all.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
What's happening. Well, I've been with that, what's happening.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
I've been a little promiscuous at the station this week.
I was working with Petros the past couple of days.
I'm working with you today. I just I just, you know,
don't want anybody to judge me for my active ways
in who.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
I work with. You're prostituting yourself.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
I'd be listened. Some would call it that. I personally
wouldn't call it that because I'm not into calling names.
But yeah, I just hope everybody's okay with everything.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Well, I mean, look, everybody knows. God, I've known you
a long time, much respect, much love, and now we
all know who you are and what you do. We
understand your m O. And uh, look, you're basically walking
the street. You're a street walker, that is correct, you know,
(01:14):
from the mean Street to the eight oh five. Yeah,
you know, somebody down there on Canejo Boulevard sees on
the corner as if you'll jump in, you're.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Right there, and you know, good calling Canalo Boulevard. That's
that's fertile ground depending on who you're looking for, you know. So,
I mean, yeah, I listened. So I just want to
make sure that everybody's okay. I'm not trying to burn
any bridges here. I'm not trying to piss like the
consistency though is Ronnie Fossio. Like Ronnie Fossio blends over
(01:44):
between both shows. So I feel like at least he
knows I'm a one tech producer man. But for the
rest of you guys, I'm slutting it up.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Big times this week.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, it's just happening.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Tell you what, get it where you can tell me
about it. Much respect to you, my friend, Hell yeah,
much respect. Okay. So the Rodgers in Kansas City, they
swept the Rockies as well. They should have same games
a little closer than you would have liked. Doesn't really matter.
They swept them, win the ones you're supposed to win.
And Clayton Kershaw Jonas has now moved to within three
(02:19):
strikeouts of three thousand. We sit there and we say it,
do you think people really know what that means?
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Well, I don't think they know truly what it means,
because I don't think that you've helped matters because you've
been pounding the drum and telling everybody he was never
going to get to three thousand strikeouts. You've been saying
that for a couple of years now.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
I've never said that.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
That was one of these scorching takes that you've had
over the past year plus, is that he'll never get
to three thousand strikeouts. So to see him on the brink,
to see him on the brink. But we're getting started early, Fred,
False accusations are flying here on the this is a
false accusation Friday here on the blowtorch am five to
seventy LA Sports. But to see that he at three
(03:01):
strikeouts away from three thousand, and by the way, he's
I think he's pitching a lot better than people expected
him to.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Oh my God.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I just I think people assumed, well, maybe he'll come back,
maybe this will be a possibility, maybe he'll you can
start him a few games down the stretch, and it's okay.
He's been pretty consistent. He's he's you know, like listen,
he doesn't have the stuff he used to. But at
his age, what is he thirty seven to be able
(03:31):
to pitch, to be able to put on performances, especially
during the dog days of the summer when they're trying
to get through you know, the heat and these road trips.
I mean, they showed him in Saint Louis, what was
it a couple of weeks ago, and he's in the dugout,
just sweating his ass off, and you're seeing him perform
at this level, getting this close to it. The fact
(03:51):
that he's put the time in, he's done the rehab,
he's built his body back, he's pitching the way that
he has. Not only is it in credible milestone, but
he deserves to reach it at Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
And so that was the thing. So let me address
a couple of those things. First, that I think he
pitches well this year, absolutely not not even remotely close.
And if anybody says, well they did, You're lying. You're lying.
So I mean, everybody should be surprised by this. Everybody
should be excited by what has happened because he has
become a guy that you have to you have to
(04:27):
rely on, Yeah, because of the pitching situation, and there
was no way anybody thought you could rely on him
going into the season. You hoped he'd be here after
the All Star break. You hope you have something left
in the tank, and maybe he'd be a spot guy
to give one of the starters who needed to arrest
a blow. That's what it was. But he's come back.
He looks great. He has really mastered the ability to
(04:51):
work with what he has because yeah, he's lost a
little mustard on the old fastball, But for him to
get to this point, it's truly remarkable. Now it's telling
Kevin this morning. I don't know if people around the country.
Maybe it's just me really appreciate him for what he is.
And that's why I said to you, you know, do
people really understand what three thousand strikeouts mean? I don't
(05:13):
know nationally, and maybe it's just my perception. If he
gets the kind of respect and Kevin brought up the
name Max Schurzer this morning, and the first thing I
thought about in my mind, more people know Max Schurzer
than Clayton Kershew. I believe that, Oh.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Really so, which I said it was ridiculous by the way.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
No, but yeah, you did say it was ridiculous. But
I'm just saying in baseball around the country, I don't
know if he gets the respect he deserves in the
minds of fans. I don't think he would be considered
the best known great pitcher in baseball today.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Yeah, I would say probably maybe Verlander more well known
nationally than Clayton Kershaw. Verlander's got, obviously the three thousand strikeouts,
and I do wonder if some of this is the
narrative surrounding his performances in the postseason, right, that maybe
people look at that and diminish his career, so to speak.
(06:16):
And listen, he's had some games where he's you know,
he's been blown out and wiped out off the mound,
and we know that, and we've talked about it before.
He's also had some great games where he was great
as well too, And I just think when you pitch
as long as he has in as many postseason games
as he has.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Man, it's a roll of the dice.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
I mean, you know, one fielding air, one bobbled ball,
one one rough inning, and it completely changes the narrative
and discussion about a player's performance and reputation. But yeah,
that's interesting. I mean nationally that probably is still the
knock on him, however fair that is. But to be
at this point at three thousand strikeouts, with the injuries
(06:56):
he's gone through recently, I think it's incredible.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Man, Oh it is. He's done and he will go down.
It's one of the great pitchers in baseball history. He will. Yeah,
you mentioned that. Now they'll have a chance to get
to three thousand at home. I think he was at
sixty six pitches when they took him out in Denver. Yeah,
so obviously he could have gone a lot further sixty
(07:20):
six pitches. He had some left in the tank, and
the feeling was and Dave Roberts denied it. Jonas maybe
they said okay, you're close. Now you can do it
at home, because after the game Dave said, yeah, they'd
be great. It'd be great if he did it at home,
do you And Dave said no, that was didn't go
into our thinking when we took him out. Do you
(07:41):
think that was in the back of their mind.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Had to be like, why wouldn't you have left him in?
Why wouldn't you just leave men and let him roll?
The pitch count wasn't a problem to me. That would
have made all the sense in the world. You can
save your bullpen arms a little bit. You know, we've
had to have bullpen games throughout you know, the past
several weeks. There's been injuries up and down the road.
It would have made sense for them to leave him
(08:04):
in and maybe he gets you know, the extra three strikeouts,
maybe he doesn't, but I think they probably had an understanding. Listen,
if we can groove this a little bit, that's the
least we can do for the guy. And when you
realize it's gonna be the White Sox, you know, based
on how their fans have behaved recently, it's kind of appropriate,
(08:25):
you know, a little few from the Dodgers on behalf
of Marte and everybody and just say, hey, your fans
are dirt bags. Let's go ahead and roll him out
there get to three thousand, and we'll do it at
home in front of a packed house, which is gonna
be yet another magical moment among a ton of magical
moments at Dodger Stadium they've had over the past couple
of years. So I think it makes all the sense
in the world. It would have made even more sense
(08:48):
to leave him out there, but this is appropriate. Let
him get it at Dodger Stadium. Let it get him,
Let him get it in his next start.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
How many things do you think it'll take up against
the White Sox.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Oh, get White Sox. Oh god, batting practice. Yeah, they
won't even get to the game. Yeah, just like, you
don't even need a cage in front him. Just throw, Like,
let him throw. In fact, if if he wants to
get cute, he can against the White Sox. They're awful, Like,
have him throw right handed, Like if you'll get your third,
go get you three thousand strike out right handed against
that awful team. But I would say, if you're setting
(09:19):
the over under at four and a half, I'll take
the under. Yeah, I'll take the under.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
I'll take the under absolutely.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Yeah, I would say I'll take the under. And and
I just wonder, I wonder, if you're a White Sox player,
do you view that as an insulting part of history,
like I don't want to be Clayton Kershaw's three thousand
strikeout Like I to me, so many people strike out
and it's the White Sox. You got bigger problems you
(09:48):
play for that stink ass organization. To me, guys are
still gonna go up there swinging no matter what. And
I think he picks it up pretty early, and it's
and I do wonder after he picks up that three
thousand strikeout, what do they do? Do they stop the
game immediately? Do they have a celebration on the mound,
Because if he's in the middle of an inning, then
you run the risk of you know, turning him cold,
(10:09):
throwing him off his rhythm. He's a guy who likes
his process. If you get in the way or in
the middle of his process, you're going to piss him off.
And then I wonder what the celebration looks like afterwards.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Well, I'm sure they'll ask him what he wants, but
you know, I'm sure they will before the game. All right,
what do you want? You want us to stop it?
We'll celebrate for a minute. You want to just keep
going and we'll celebrate after the game. How do you
want to handle it? What do you want to do?
I'm sure it'll come down to what he wants.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
How would you handle it me? Yeah, they come to
you and say, Fred, how should we do this? What
do you think the best thing is understanding? We're in
the middle of the game, right, it's the middle of
the summer. It's probably going to be hot as hell
out right, how should we handle this? We don't want
to throw him off track or off course because he
is having a great bounce back season.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
What would you say? Here's what I would do if
I get three thousand at any point? Yeah, stop the game,
Let's have a celebration. Guys can run off, congratulate me,
maybe a little video congratulations Clayton nine number three thousand.
Then I'm walking off the mountain and I'm done for
the night. Okay, just bring somebody in from the bullpen.
(11:11):
I'm done. Okay, listen, he only went sixty six pitches
in his last outing.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Okay, who cares? Yeah, all right, I got it.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
I made it. I'm done. Boom, thank you, Alex Vessia.
Oh see Jack Dryer. Let's get Jack Dryer and he
pitches in the game anyway, all right, So you.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
So you just have you have Jack Dryer or Alex
Vessia ready to go at all times. Have him start
warming up anytime past the second inning, just so you
can make the switch immediately after it.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Make a dryer, make a dryer, make it that left
hand or Vessie. I'll come in later in the game.
You know, Jack Dryer pitches every day. It doesn't matter.
He'll be ready. He's ready right now. They haven't even
started yet. He can go in Jack Dryers in every game.
Let's get him out there.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Now.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
I do wonder if like, because if you're like, and
this would be me, and maybe I'm a little petty,
but this would be my only request. I'd go on
and talk to I talked to the UMP and I'd
be like, hey, man, listen. I know it's been kind
of hit or miss for you guys this year. There's
some people who have been frustrated with your with your calls,
with your zones. A lot of people want the automatic
(12:16):
strike zone, robot umps, et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Whatever you do.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
If I get to three thousand, please don't call it
on a check swing. That's all I'm asking because that
feels like kind of a half asked way to get
three thousand strikeouts?
Speaker 1 (12:32):
If you ask me.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Please, I mean like a check swing.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
I want.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
I want a guy either frozen looking at strike three,
or I want a guy swinging so hard that his shoes.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Fall off it clarkscrews himself into the ground.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yes, you want, that's all. And I don't think that's
too much to ask. Drill yourself into the ground or
be frozen. Because I just threw a twelve to six
from outer space that landed right in the zone. But
a check swing for the three thousand strikeout that sucks. Well.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
I don't think you can talk to the umpires about
that for a couple of reasons. First, because you can't.
It compromises the integrity of the game. Ah, But more moreover,
and I think it's something we have to take into consideration.
It won't matter the way they're calling balls and strikes
this year. It's irrelevant. If he's close, somebody's getting punched out. Okay,
(13:24):
he's won away. Within the next two batters, they're getting
punched out. I can assure you ball could bounce a
guy called a strike. What's a difference? Pictures are four
feet outside and they call him struck.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
And here we go again. I knew that if I
brought up the strike zone, we were going to go
down this path. And that's the issue here. You can't
you can't have a fair discussion about the strike zone
and a guy getting three thousand strikeouts without you going
back to the grudge you hold because you wanted to
be an umpire growing up and you didn't make it.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Because that's not true. They had issues with your integrity.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
No, no, no, no one questioned my integrity. I'll tell
you that I'm not Tim Donaghy. Okay, nobody questioned my integrity.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Why what did Tim Donahey do well in the NBA? Yeah,
you should thank Tim Donahey. He' get but he gave
he gave the Lakers a title. You should thank Tim donahewise,
otherwise you'd be up in Sacramento covering it back to
you guys at the desk live from Sacramento. Donnie, by
(14:22):
the way, you know, it's great, you know's that's a
whole nother discuss But the fact that the NBA reportedly
knew that that story was coming out and tried to
bury it because they had that big time TV deal
that they had just signed, and they wanted to wait
till the ink was dry on the TV deal before
they said, oh yeah, yeah, you're right, Yeah, yeah, this
(14:45):
is a problem. We're going to take care of this guy.
It's a real issue. They knew that it was happening,
they knew that it was going to be a bad
look when it came out, but didn't say a damn
thing about it until the contract was dry on the
new TV rights deal.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
They got that's brilliant. That's how you do stuff.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Like that, right, Yeah, that's exactly how you do it.
That's them. Just like just like another brilliant part of
the NBA is on Draft night, they give the guy
the wrong hat.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Can I Can I defend the NBA on that?
Speaker 1 (15:16):
No, there's no defense of this, all right.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
The hat sucked.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
The font was so small you didn't know whether or
not it was the Mavericks or the Celtics. Like it,
just like the green the font all that. Like, listen,
mistakes happen, but that's what you get when you try
and get too cute with the font. All right, Just
go big bold block lettering, make it easy for everybody involved,
and then just hand the guy a hat and you're
off and.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Running and that's it. But they're wrong with that.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
And then you got Malik Andrews, you know, calling somebody
calling Cowherd and that Cedric Coward like there was there
was a lot that was going on there, you know.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah. But overall, aside from the font on the hat,
they really have to do something about these deals, they
really do they. I understand they don't want to announce
the trade before the draft because everybody's got their order,
but my god, this team picks this guy you put
on the hat, but two hours ago you knew he
was playing for somebody else. Yeah, it's ridiculous. Just we've
(16:14):
got a trade now. Granted it would take an hour
to explain NBA trades with this round and then this
thing that well, you know was protected but now it's
not protected. But still, how about when the guy gets picked,
the real team that picked him is announced, and then
the guy puts on that hat. Put on that hat,
(16:36):
not somebody else's. That makes no sense. And the NBA
is pretty adept at social media and dealing with the public,
but that's absurd. Just put on the right hat.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
I mean, I'm just glad that it spanned out over
two nights because I don't know about you. After Night
one of the NBA Draft, I was like, man, we
really got to get a second dose of this, please, Like,
let's spread this out as much as we possibly can.
All right, let's make it two nights. And Ben, why
don't we just do the first half of the second
round on Thursday and the second half of the second
round on Friday and throw it on during the day
(17:11):
when everybody's watching TV.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
That See, That's what I was going to say. What
I would prefer is maybe they stretch it out the
four nights. They go half around each night, okay, to
build the drop because it really is very exciting. I
mean it's very exciting watching the NBA Draft.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Yeah, I mean, listen, I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
It's like the part in rain Man where they're sitting
at the at the restaurant, at the diner and he's like,
got his chicken tenders and he said, I need eight
chicken tenders and there was only four and he goes,
what do you listen to? This is somebody you get
and he couldn't figure it. I said, no, no, I
need eight chicken tenders. So he just cut them in
half and said there's your eight. Like, that's what they
should do, you know, just like spread it out as
(17:52):
much as you possibly. Just a little bit here, put
a little sprinkle, a little bit here, you know, have
do a part of it in Brooklyn, in the other
part of in another part of the country. Like get
really creative with it, because anything despice this up. And maybe,
you know, maybe then they can get the hat situation correct.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Maybe they could do that, or maybe they could just
change the rule and say we're gonna tell you when
a trade was made. They could do that.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
They could do that, Yeah, they could, but it's the NBA.
They won't.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
So yeah, I mean, you know, they could try to
be upfront. They could try to make it a little better.
I gotta be honest with you. I mean, I'm not
a big I gotta watch this draft every night guy, period.
I know the NFL Draft is a show, and people
really watch the NFL Draft. The NBA tries, but it's
not like the NFL Draft.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
No, not even close.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Well, because the NFL's got the advantage of the two
most popular sports in one night at the same time,
or wanted three nights at the same time, and there's
so many storylines around the players going into the draft
that you know exactly what's happening. You know who these
guys are. You've seen them play on big time stages,
(19:02):
in big time games. And in the NBA there's too
many one and don's and if a guy's a talented
Rutgers had two players going what the top eight, top ten? Like,
people don't People aren't watching Rutgers basketball for the most part.
I mean, they know Duke, they knew, Cooper Flag, they knew,
But people aren't watching Rutgers basketball. They're not watching to
(19:23):
see whether or not some six' ten power forward From
yugoslavia is going to be the next big. Thing, like
people don't know who the most of these players, are
and THE nba almost pretends as if they, Do, oh
you've got you guys know? Who, no we have no,
idea we don't, know and so why spread this out
make it more? Interesting and instead they come up with
(19:43):
some fraudulent hat wearing headgear to try and get everybody
talking about.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
It all, RIGHT i want to continue. That, also we
have to talk about the, guy the. Pitcher The dodgers
may have their eye, on it's trade. Deadline all of
that when we come. Back, Hello rogan And.

(20:43):
Ace bailey show a? Hands? All? Right prior to a week,
ago who Knew As bailey show a? HANDS i don't
seem any going, up But Ace bailey apparently was the
most important person in THE nba draft by, far the
most important. Person i'll work out, here BUT i won't
(21:03):
have a private workout with, you so don't ask. Ye
by the, way you don't think about taking. ME i
don't want you to take. Me and if you take,
me whoever takes, Me i'm. Playing it's good for my.

(21:23):
and don't be one of the TEAMS i, said not

From Ace, bailey whoever the Hell Ace bailey. Was these are.
Kids you talk about a sense of. Entitlement how about
a little. APPRECIATION i, MEAN i get it if you're
One banyama who would have gone, anywhere but Not Ace,
(21:46):
bailey have a sense of. Appreciation accomplish something before you
start saying those kinds of. Things it's Like Caleb, williams
that's just rubbed me the wrong. Way the bears at his.
FATHER i get, it but it was too. Much you know.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
What's And i'm with you Because i've always Been, hey
you're getting an opportunity to be drafted, professionally WHETHER, Nba
Major League, BASEBALL, nfl. Whatever be grateful and be thankful
for the journey and the opportunity that you're at this.
Point it should be a. Celebration you shouldn't let this
other stuff get in the. Way but we've seen it play.
(22:30):
Out we've seen it play out multiple, times specifically in
THE nfl and we've seen it work to the favor
of the. Player whether it Was Eli manning SAYING i
don't want to go to THE i don't want to
go to The. Chargers i'd rather go to The giants
kind of. Worked john L way, saying, Listen i'm not
(22:52):
going to play for The Baltimore. Colts i'm Going i'll
go anywhere. Else i'll go play baseball for The. Yankees
i'm not doing. It both their dads got involved and
said tried to dictate where their sons were going to,
go and a lot of people held that against their
sons throughout the course of their, career especially early. On
but if we're being, honest The Baltimore colts didn't even Like.
(23:14):
Baltimore they, left and The chargers left, Too so it's,
LIKE i can understand why there would be, pushback but
there have been examples where they were.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Right as far As Ace.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
Bailey's, concerned you just don't know what advice he's, getting
whether it's from his agent who's got you, know a
little bit of a checkered pasted, now his agents saying,
oh he would love to play For, utah but then
you didn't. WANT i just think it's hilarious that you.
Know Danny aingel was, Like, oh you're not working out,
here you're not playing. Here, Sweet we're still gonna draft.
You like tough, Balls we're drafting. You you're the guy
(23:51):
that we want and will draft.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
You but you just don't know.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Nowadays and this goes back to the nil, conversation where
anybody can be an, agent anybody can represent these, players
and you don't know what sort of awful advice these
guys are getting from people in their camp telling them
to try and flex their power instead of being, like,
hey be appreciative of the, process appreciate the fact that
(24:18):
you're being drafted to your, point and really be take
this in a more humble. Approach yet you've got voices
in their ear telling them.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Otherwise here's the.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Fine here's the, Thing Eli, Manning John. Elway i'm gonna
say right, Now Ace bailey's not THE nba version of
either one of. Them got, jeez he's not, one But
yama that would be a Guy you, go, okay all,
right maybe, yeah if he wants to throw a, fit
that's up to him and pick his. Plays BUT i
(24:49):
just don't understand. It and it's, like be thankful and.
Appreciative my, god you're going to make a lot of
money and you're going to THE. Nba and by the,
way you're not locked in there for the rest of your.
Life how about go become a? Pro how about prove.
Yourself there was nobody that thought this guy by far
(25:11):
best player in the. Draft he's gonna kill. It that's
the guy you. WANT i don't think there was a
consensus on. That is That bailey?
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Available it Was Cooper flag and everybody, else.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Right SO i don't get. It how about the guy From?
Toronto when the guy From toronto got? Picked do you
see what he? Did?
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Oh the.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Is he the one whose brother was? Crying or is
that the the other?
Speaker 4 (25:38):
Dude, like so this is the guy who put up
him in F, no she rolled their eyes and he
said F.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
Murray boyles is his?
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Name by? THAT i, mean, look maybe they're not a
big fan Of Tim. HORTON'S i don't know why.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Not they have great.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Donuts, okay, WELL i mean, listen maybe he's never had it,
before and maybe you could. Look Remember Jim kelly didn't
want to go To buffalo so bad that he went
and joined THE usfl Said i'm not going, here, like
please don't let it Be, Buffalo and they just went
and joined an upstart league somewhere else to get. Paid
and then once he got To buffalo was, like oh,
man this is, Awesome LIKE i love.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
This Didn't?
Speaker 3 (26:18):
SHACK i remember hearing, this and maybe you remember. This
wasn't there thought That shack was going to try and
force his way to The, lakers that he always wanted
to end up with The, lakers and that When orlando
was going to draft. HIM i remember hearing stuff that
that was the big speculation That shaq was trying to
figure out how to get to The lakers even before
he got.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Drafted, OKAY i don't remember. THAT i knew his then,
Agent LEONARD. R. MODEL i actually ran into him at
dinner one night before the. DRAFT i never got that,
Sense and you could be one hundred percent, right BUT
i never got that.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Sense but you Mentioned Ace.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Bailey it's not like you can get franchise tagged in
THE nfl if he wasn't, out he can eventually get
out of that deal.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Anyways, yeah and you know what he can, do and
he can play so poorly they don't want. Him how about?
That how about.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
It be.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Thankful i'm in THE. Nba there's only a handful of
us that make this kind of money to play. Basketball thank.
You oh Now i'm drafted BY i don't think you
wanted to go To. Philadelphia that was another. One so
he goes To. Utah he's there a. Year, first he's a,
kid so he's got to grow. Up but let's say
(27:29):
in the process he doesn't like, IT i hate. It
you'll be out of there before you even know. It
just go pad your stats and you'll be home. Free
you'll be, gone and in the process of playing, basketball
you'll make a very good.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Living i've never been To Salt Lake. CITY i. Here
it's a beautiful.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Place Salt, Lake utah is, very very.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Pretty but you, Know i've also heard, that you, know
if you like to go out there and lick the
lid a little, bit you, know get on the liver,
loop that it's a little bit more difficult there than
in some other. Places in, FACT i can remember being
on the air When Gordon hayward announced that he was
signing with The Boston, celtics and a guy From Salt
(28:10):
lake called Into Fox Sports radio as he was driving
across state line to go buy booze and bring it
back To utah because it was already past curfew there
to buy. Alcohol maybe he just doesn't want to have
to deal with, that you know WHAT i? Mean maybe
he just wants to be able to walk into a
seven to eleven and be, LIKE i don't, know, TONIGHT
i feel like cold forty, five cold forty five, TONIGHT
(28:32):
i feel, like you, know A mickey's, grenade or maybe
TONIGHT i feel like a bottle of pop.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
OFF i don't. Like maybe he.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Wants some freedom and some, liberty be able to drink
as he chooses and not have somebody tell him you
could have some of, this but not after this, time
and it's three point five, percent not four to.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
TWO i don't know if he's old enough to drink.
Yet he's.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Eighteen, ah that's.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
FINE i mean at a certain point you just round,
up you know WHAT i?
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Mean, sure you just he looks the, part that's.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
Fine what's the difference he plays in THE? Nba it
looks like he's?
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Fourteen maybe when when did you guys stop getting? Carded
when did that? Happen?
Speaker 3 (29:12):
Like how old were you when you stop getting? Carded
when you would walk into place seriously for, Me, yeah
like a month. Ago, okay, okay, youngster another bottle of camis.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
You?
Speaker 4 (29:28):
See that happens every now and then with a checkout
clerk who tries to like massage the, ego young, Lady
CAN i see YOUR id which is clearly in a
walker and has the greyest of gray hairs on top
of gray? Hairs it can barely stand up, straight, like,
oh that's so, nice young.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Man there's nothing better than a horned up cashier's just
who's just looking to try and try and line something
up for. Later so, literally you could wheel somebody in
a coffin through the checkout line and they, go CAN
i see SOME?
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Id well you.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Don't the excuse, is, well IF i check this, One
i've got to check. Yours you. Know IF i look at,
THIS i gotta look at all of. Them that's just
that's just the way we do it. Here Or i'll
get in, trouble like what are you? Doing what are you?
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Doing like a sweet spot though of like where you
kind of want to get checked and then you, don't,
like you, know if you're you know twenty, two twenty,
three twenty, four you're gonna get.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Card that's part of the.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Process you look young. Whatever but you get to like
maybe thirty two or thirty three and they don't card,
you and you're, like the, hell, man really you're not
gonna card?
Speaker 1 (30:27):
ME i look that?
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Old yeah leap off. Man yeah you take it personal.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Too.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Yeah where was the?
Speaker 3 (30:34):
PLACE i remember the BIG i don't even know if
this was. TRUE i never, went BUT i knew people
that swore that you could go To Alvarado street and
get fake, id's that there was some place In Oparado
street where you could go and get fake. IDs i
swear To god that's.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
True that's. TRUE i know somebody who did that.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
To this is definitely not. Meant that's a true.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Story in, FACT i had a buddy who tried to do,
it AND i on EVERYTHING i, love this is a true.
STORY i swear To god on this went To, alverado
sent a friend to go To Alvarado street to try
and get fake, id's and came back with. One and
the name Was Alfred, hitchcock AND i on on my,
(31:18):
life on my, life that's a true, story and he was. Mortified,
yeah it was like eighty bucks and he came back
With Alfred hitchcock as HIS id. NAME i swear To
god on that. Story and guess, what it still worked
work because he would get offended if so All Alfred
hitchcock is so, listen, Man i've been dealing that with
(31:38):
my whole. LIFE i gotta catch it from you two,
Whatever and he would make a scene and if the
place was, slow they're taking whatever business they can, get and.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Then it ended up.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Working i've gotten one for. You what do we?
Speaker 6 (31:49):
Got So Herman munster address thirteen Thirteen Mockingbird, Lane Los, angeles,
nine double six y.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Nine that's.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Real that's a real.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
One that Was that was a real and that was
given out On Alvarado. Street so this Is Herman. Munster
so this is the.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Thing so the people there that were had that were
making these fake IDs were, like you know, what we've
run out of. Names lets just start pulling UP tv
shows and just see if anybody notices when they give
us their eighty bucks and walk away with a Fake.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Runny how many did you get From?
Speaker 6 (32:20):
ALVARADO i didn't get, Those, FRED i know somebody who got.
Them and it was a lot of details on that out,
there BECAUSE i saw THE, id.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
The, address the zip code all.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
That, yeah so who, knows maybe you'll See Ace bailey
And Alvarado street fake out of you when he goes To.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Utah that's his first.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Stop. Yeah and also the people In utah are very
welcoming TO nba players. Too what do you mean by?
That Just? Utah it's a tough place to play for
a lot Of African american players in THE. Nba and
they've always.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Said that all Because Michael jordan got. Poisoned please come,
on WHAT i could have up to anybody getting? Poisoned,
yeah come, on you, Know i'm Sure John stockton Or
Mark eaton had had a, bad bad pizza or.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Two back in the day as well. TOO i don't
know that that's.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Race when's the last time you were? Poisoned?
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Oh, ACTUALLY i GOT i don't want to name the.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Uh actually you know, what why?
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Not there's a subway downtown Near staples back in the
day THAT i went to AND uh an hour and
a half, later and it WAS i mean traffic in both,
directions a lot going.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
On, yeah that was that was.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Bad i'm saying with, Them i'm trying to think it
was it An ITALIAN.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
BMT i think they call IT i THINK i think
it was The ITALIAN.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Bmt for whatever, reason that didn't, land And i'd had
subway since, then not for a long, time BUT i
had subway since then and everything was. Fine but for whatever,
reason got a bad. Batchel that's the only Time i've
had food.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
POISONING i can't remember the last. Time somebody, said there
with the. Subway And i'm being dead, serious no disrespect to.
Subway remember everybody always Go i'm going to. SUBWAY i
never hear anybody say that.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Anymore, well the five dollars foot long and the if
you want to get in, shape go to, subway not
counting the other carbs that come with the. Bread remember
that back in the.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
Day, yeah that was an.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Issue and they had a spokesman who you, know had
a little.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Bit we don't have to go. There, yeah what was his,
name that's not. IMPORTANT i can't remember his.
Speaker 5 (34:28):
NAME i.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
Remember let's just say you work with someone who shares
an the first, name and that's about the only thing
that they.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Share Papa.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
John, yeah we got to get back to The. DODGERS
i don't.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
Know by the, WAY i did a little bit of
a deep dive on these sarser Versus. Kershaw, yeah all, Right.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
We've made it even easier to TAKE Lace sports with
you this. Summer MAKE am five seventy or your FAVORITE
am five SEVENTY La sports podcast a preset on The
iHeartRadio app Using apple Car play Or Android auto Road.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Trip all summer WITH La.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Sports all, Right Jonas knatxen today For. Rodney so you
did a little research On schuzer And.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Kershaw, YEAH i, mean because you, know that was the
name that we brought up as far as who's had
the better, career and if you just compare the, two
it's actually kind of wild how similar the numbers are
as far as they both have the same number of
wins two sixteen apiece career. Wins the Strikeout schusers, got you,
know thirty four hundred and. Twelve Obviously kershaw's we laid
(35:44):
out earlier is three away from three. Thousand But kershaw
does have the better. Er and then you go to
the Cy. Youngs they both have three Cy, youngs they
both got Two World series, titles Ten All stars For,
kershaw eight To Max. Scherzer so it's really dependent on
(36:05):
how much you value what happened in the, postseason and
so WHAT i did IS i went To grock and
just typed it in On Grock and here Was grock's.
Conclusion and you tell me how how much you buy
into this? Right That kershaw had a better peak from
twenty eleven to twenty, fifteen with an unmatched ra and
historic awards like THE Mvp Triple. Crown his career is
(36:27):
defined by consistency and efficiency with one. Franchise scherzer edges
him out in postseason, success, strikeouts and durability across multiple.
Teams his adaptability and clutch performances are hard to. Ignore
it's nearly a, tie but they would edge Towards Max
scherz or because of the postseason success al.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Does but where Does KERSHAW'S mvp way?
Speaker 2 (36:50):
In that's the.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Thing and, also don't you give a little bit more
credit to the guy who stayed in one spot his entire?
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Career for some?
Speaker 3 (37:01):
REASON i, do AND i think that we look at
players differently if they stay in one spot as opposed
to bouncing. Around there's going to be people that will
tell you That Kobe bryant is a better player Than
Lebron james all. Time there's gonna be people that will
tell you that and if you look at the, numbers he's.
(37:22):
Not BUT i think that people Diminish LEBRON'S i don't
know if diminished is the right, word but they look
at his career differently because he was a little bit
of a, mercenary just kind of bounced. Around it's Like
Kevin durant just kind of bounced.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
Around all over the.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
PLACE i Think kershaw doing it in one place as
opposed To, scherzer AND i Think dodger fans remember him
not wanting to pitch and you, know couldn't make it
out there in a playoff. GAME i would still lean
Towards kershaw in that regard because even you know the playoff, numbers,
Yeh sures has got a better, era but they're Almost
they're five hundred, pitchers both of them in the. Postseason
(37:58):
so it's not like we're, talking you, Know Kurt, shilling
or we're talking one of these you know all, time you,
know great postseason pitchers as opposed To Clayton. Kershaw it's really,
close BUT i WOULD i would still lean Towards kershaw
with the better career if it were.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Me, well there is something ROMANTIC i think about starting
and finishing in the same. Place, yeah that does mean.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Something, Yeah AND i Think kobe's career would have been
viewed differently had he jumped to the, lake jumped to The,
clippers or gone. ELSEWHERE i think his career would have
been viewed. DIFFERENTLY i think a lot of people's careers
would have been viewed differently if they bounced around the
way that they. Did and Staid kershaw has just just
ridden this thing out the entire time with The, dodgers just.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
Very he just aside from being outstanding and, great just,
solid you don't just, solid that's what he's always. Been
didn't and very very, INTELLIGENT i, mean didn't didn't talk a,
lot didn't need to be the center of, it just,
solid just a good guy pitching that happened to be.
(39:05):
Great and that's WHEN i was, thinking, huh because over the,
years and maybe BECAUSE i worked IN la and that's
How Max scherzer's name came, UP i, THOUGHT i sure
heard a lot more About Max schuzer THAN i Did
Clayton kershaw.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
Nationally, Maybe, YEAH i, mean he's a better like as
far as strike. Like you can't deny. THAT i, mean and,
look both Are hall Of fame. Guys no doubt about,
It like it's not even you, know first, bout no question.
Whatsoever BUT i do wonder if you're gonna look At
(39:40):
kershaw's career maybe a little bit more, favorably just based
on the fact that he didn't.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Bounce around as much as he.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
Did, LIKE i don't even know how many people know
That Max shear is a place for The Blue.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
Jays, well that's the, Point, jonas BECAUSE i think part
of the reason why his name is, always you, know
front and, center is because he moves so.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Much, yeah maybe that's that's what it.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Is his name is always because he gets.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Traded maybe that's the. Trick that's what it.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Is kirshaw didn't get talked about because you know exactly
where he.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
Is he doesn't go.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
Anywhere, yeah can you dangle me in a in a
trade rumor so my name could get out there a
little bit more to somebody In toledo who's not watching baseball, Yet, like,
yeah maybe that's the.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Move he has serves has played for five teams since
twenty twenty one.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Five, yeah but that's the, thing if we're talking all, time,
great there is something that kind of takes away from
that career a little bit if you're bouncing around as
much you've, Had i'm telling people will when you think
Of Kevin. DURANT i don't know how many people look
back At Kevin durant's career and the first thing they say, is, oh,
(40:39):
yeah two time, FINALS mvp and the best player on
the floor in both of those. Finals and it wasn't.
Close and those were finals Featuring Lebron james And Steph.
Curry Kevin durant was the best player on the. FLOOR
i don't think people even think about that when they
first talk About. Durant they think about a guy that
moved around a. Lot it's the first thing.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
You think about With.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Durant he just unique. Career insurrezers kind of like. That
he's bounced around all over the, place including The.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Dodgers does it taint someone's? CAREER i, mean from just
a perspective of people observing someone's, Career does it taint
it if they've moved around a? Lot does it mean
more if they're in one? Place? NOW i understand The kershaw,
argument BUT i, mean, overall If Lebron james had played
(41:25):
his entire career In, cleveland would he be viewed. Differently,
Yes Kevin durant had played his entire career In Seattle SLASH,
okc would he be viewed, Differently, yeah one.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
PERCENT i mean.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
That and, look that was always what everybody Gave Damian
lillard credit. For throughout the course of his. Career he
was rumored to be dealt and rumored to go in
all and he was, like, no, no, NO i want to
stay here If i'm going to win it. ANYWHERE i
wanted to be In. Portland and then ultimately he caved
in and they moved on from. Him but, YEAH i
do think you give credit to the guy who stayed
in one, place went through the. Grind And i'm not
(42:00):
against players moving. Around Max scherzer wants to go sign
somewhere else and take a one year deal here and
not sign you, know after a trade during the seasoning
that dude teach their Own you have the freedom to do.
That he's a great. Player BUT i do think it
does take away a little bit of your.
Speaker 1 (42:15):
Legacy so you think so given what you're, saying you
think there was a stain on the legacy Of Jock.
Speaker 3 (42:23):
PETERSON i, MEAN i think there was a stain on
his legacy When tommy fam slapped him over a fantasy football.
Bet so, You, JOCK i, mean, which, Look Gino smith
is bounced back From you, Know he's bounced back in
a big.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Way and that was one of the stories about.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Him he got his job broken In New york with
The jets because he didn't pay somebody back for an airline.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Ticket they bought for.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
Him so he bounced back in a big. Way so
it doesn't mean that it's. Over but, Yeah Jock peterson's
bounced around a.
Speaker 4 (42:55):
Lot not to go on a different, tangent but you
got to take these bets so, Serious like two guys
get Punch Jafar's krittin did brought guns out on each
other over a card. Game is it really that?
Speaker 1 (43:05):
Serious well there's some real money there, Though, KEVIN.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
I, mean, yeah but damn. Guns do you remember the?
Airplane was?
Speaker 3 (43:13):
It Oj mayo And Tony allen were playing cards on
a on a flight with The. Grizzlies Tony allen threw
down on the, flight literally started throwing punches on the
flight over a card games wild.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
And you know, what you don't want to cheat or
do anything wrong in a card game in a confined,
Space NO i, mean you don't have a lot of
wiggle room up. There, yeah there's Nowhere Oj mayo could
have gone locked themselves in the bathroom.
Speaker 3 (43:39):
Maybe, Yeah and where are you gonna like if you, were, like,
say hiding. Cards there's not that many hiding spots in
a plane if you think about.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
It you, know anybody that hyped cards.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
All i've done? It?
Speaker 3 (43:51):
Yeah oh, WELL i, mean you, know Like i'll tell
my son, like, hey you, know there's a there's a bear,
outside and Then i'll just swipe stuff off the.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
Table i'm not talking about when you're playing with someone, three.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
Okay because it's a lot easier than for what it's,
worth anybody that's got a three or four year, old
it's way easier to cheat in a card.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
Game just letting you.
Speaker 1 (44:11):
Know well's and that's a good thing to teach. Them
that's the kind of dad you. Are. Yeah Dan wike
of The athletic will join us coming up this hour
and talk about what happened in THE Nba draft with
The lakers And. Clippers Did can we ever talk about
the pitch of The dodgers are interested? In can we
(44:33):
do that when we come, back, please
