Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, here we go, fred Rogan, Rodney Pete on
a five seventy l a sports, A gigantic, enormous two
hour program today. Nate Atkins is going to join us here,
coming up at the top of the one o'clock hour,
and uh, he'll talk some rams.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Rodney.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
How are you You say ginormous? You say gigantic, enormous, gigantic, ginormous.
It's a big show, Rodney. Yes, got a lot to do.
It's a daylight today, Freddie where it's it's a crime
and a travesty that we're only on for two hours?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Please?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yeah, I don't know how many times we have to ask,
can we please? Is it possible? Can we just do
eight hours at a time?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I don't know eight hours? I'm down. Let's go me too.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
We need to talk to So last night the Dodgers
got a little a little shaky there for a bit,
got a little shaky, but all's well, that ends well.
They hung on and they were able to beat the Diamondbacks.
They nearly blew a six two late, but they wanted
six to five. And guess who came in and closed
the door?

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Right? I know, right? How fitting is that? After the
idiots that tried to threaten his family and all those things.
Tanner Scott comes in and shuts it down at the
end when it was starting to unravel a little bit,
just a little bit, a little bitting to unravel.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
It was unraveling period. Now, when he came in, what
did you think when he's nervous?

Speaker 2 (01:30):
But you know, I would root for him, But I
was nervous because you always have in the back of
your mind because it's still fresh of last year, right,
and you still you like, even though he's had a
fantastic year. Yeah, he gave up the other day and uh,
gave up the lead on the on the home run
against the Phillies. But for the most part he's had
a bounce back, really good year. And but but still

(01:53):
last year's fresh in your mind. You think, oh, here
we go. It's a close ballgame and Tanner Scott's coming in.
He's going to give up the lee, He's gonna give
up a go ahead home run. What's what's gonna happen?
But he was sharp and I'm glad he closed it out,
so it's it was good. But man, yeah, it got
got a little edgy.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
We talked about this yesterday, Freddie Domenbacks are a gritty
little team. They just they they never say die. They
come at you there.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
They probably don't have, you know, multiple All Stars on
that team right now, but they they they will fight
you and fight you and fight you and hang around
and hang around. They got a scrappy bunch. And is
it me or it feels like Nolan Arnado has kind
of found the fountain a little bit. He has, right, yep,

(02:41):
he has. You know, I think he got kind of
lost in Saint Louis when he went there the last
couple of years. You know, obviously a tremendous player, one
at all time great third baseman's and you know, two
way hot, you know, offensive player as well when he
was in Colorado. But it's kind of good to see him,
you know, bouncing back and having this kind of year
and doing the things he's doing, just not so much

(03:03):
against the Dodgers now, Aaron, you.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Know what my wife calls the Diamondbacks what the answer backs,
because they're never out of it the answer backs, they
always answer back.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
That's a good one. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
When you think those guys are out, they're not out.
And it's weird watching them because we watch them all
the time. They just figure out a way. They just
figure out a way. No matter what the score is,
it's gonna get interesting at the end with them, they
just figure out a way to chip away and get
themselves back into the game.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I'm just Kis Tanner. Scott looked good last night. Yeah
he did, Thank God.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Uh And is it me or does it feel like
in those moments when they're answering back as your wife
says the answer backs that Corpy and Carroll comes up
in all of those key moments, it just feels like
he's got he's hitting first, he's hitting third, he's sitting seventh.
It just feels like he next thing, you know, Oh,

(04:01):
Diamondbacks are.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
On a roll. Here they go on a rally. Corvin
Curl's on Dick, you know, he's had to play. I'm like,
didn't he just hit? But it feels like he comes.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Up always at the time where they need him to
be at the plate, and he he comes through. When
you look at him, you think, how good could he be?

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Really, if you look at him, he's not a big guy, No,
not at all. I mean how much power could.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
This guy have? Man?

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Anybody would take him on their team. Anybody would take
Corvin Carroll on her team. He is. If he's not
a superstar, he's pretty close. Oh yeah, I'll say that
he's pretty close to being a superstar.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah. And just consistent too, you know, he just does
it night and night out, and it's been doing it
for a number of years. He's still a young guy too,
So it's just but it's weird. I was thinking that
the other the last night, last couple of nights that,
and he always comes up in key situations for them,
and more often than not he So, yeah, he's a
great player and like I said, not that big, but

(05:04):
he has a tremendous impact.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
And back to tennis Scott for a second, and I'll
tell you why I thought it was dicey because, as
you pointed out, given what happened last year, you're thinking this,
uh you know, was that the beginning the other night
of a real problem just because of what happened last year? Yeah,
I mean the other night he's a major league reliever.
He got beat, but given what happened last year, was like,

(05:29):
oh god, could that be the beginning of the end again?
Could it all be downhill from here? Could he spiral
out of control. I mean I was thinking all those
things only because of what happened last year. And when
he came in and did the job, I went, all right, good,
he's fine, he's back, he's okay. We're not going to
see that happen again as we did last year. Yeah,

(05:52):
so I thought that was critical last night, two guys
heating up, Freddie and o'tani.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Now that's a problem, not for the doctors, but for
everybody else. You know, has they been going through this season?
And what are they fifteen and four now in the
last nineteen Has they been going through the season. No,
one's really been firing on all cylinders.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Nobody. No, there's not been a given place.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
And especially the guys at the topital lineup have not
been firing on all cylinders. There's not been a point
in time where that's happened. And you're going, well, they're
still in first place, and I don't look very good.
A team in first place doesn't look very Look at
that for a minute. Yeah, they don't look very good.
They're in first place. Yeah, but they didn't look very good.
Look at the expectations. So now all of a sudden

(06:40):
those guys that didn't look very good are starting to
look pretty good, and that's a real problem now for everybody.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah, I agree, because they've been kind of it almost
feels like cruise control right now, like they're.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
In.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
I think it's been their philosophy for the last you know,
four or five years, is, as you point out, and
you agree with it, be that the regular season doesn't matter. Right.
We're not trying to win one hundred and fifteen games.
We're not trying to do that. We want to be healthy,
we want to be ready to go, we want to
tune ourselves up. So when October hits, we're hitting on
all cylinders. And it feels like that's their approach.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
They don't get overly excited about a loss or a win,
and they don't get down about a loss in May
or June, and they just keep cruising, like you said,
And then all of a sudden you look up and
there they've won fifteen out of nineteen games, and they're like, WHOA,
that was kind of a whole home winning streak that
they're on and not and the team hasn't really been hot.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
They haven't really as a team. There's been guys like
obviously Paez is at a great start to the season.
Some guys have had stretches of being hot, but not
as a team. They really haven't. But to your point,
if Tani and Freddy are heating up like this and quietly,
I know he's still only hitting two hundred, but Mookie,
now he's playing every day in an RBI the other

(08:08):
day or yesterday, and uh, in a in a key moment, Uh,
he's gonna start to heat up. And you know Will
Smith is struggling. You gotta figure he's gonna get going.
I just in there. What are they? Five? Five games up,
five and a half games up now on on Sandieglo.
They better watch out because we're gonna look up. The

(08:28):
Dodge's gonna be fifteen games up. You know, if these
other teams don't, don't look at and go. We gotta
we gotta stay close. We gotta stay close because the
Dodgers are doing it without really being impressive doing it.
They got a few guys here. But Otani gets going
like he's gotten going the last couple of years at

(08:50):
certain points of the season, and Freddie gets going like
he is now, it's gonna be trouble and I'm I'm
I'm serious. You're gonna look up in July and the
All Star breaks gonna roll around, and they're gonna look
up and go Dodgers. They're twelve, fifteen games up on
everybody else, and.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
It'll be the quietest twelve or fifteen games anybody can imagine. Yes,
you won't even know it's happening. See, because here the
situation is this. You don't even look at the standings.
I mean I look at them every day just to
see what's going on, but the standings.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
But you're not. Yeah, you're not glued to it like
you would be if you're you know, some other fan
from other team, other.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
City, because you know your team is gonna be there.
It doesn't matter. The expectation is it's going to be fine.
And unless somehow you fall ten games below the division leader,
what's the difference. We don't even look at this. That's
the funniest part of this. Yeah, well you know they
could be fifteen games up. You know, people will go
really seriously, they're fifteen games Wow, Hey, who know?

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Even I know that?

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah, because nobody looks because it doesn't even matter if
they go on an eight game losing Street. Then you
start checking. But aside from that, really, does anybody look
at the standings or is the expectation? They're just fine
and it's all good because that's how I do it.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Yeah, I do too. I do too. I mean, obviously
we do what we do for our show. But for
the most part, if you're just watching or it's a weekend,
you know, yeah, and I just glanced at it, That's
what I say. I glanced at it. Yesterday they were
five games up and there was not what a week
and a half ago, they were neck and neck with
the Padres.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
There's six games on the Padres, six and a half
on the Diamond back yes see.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Now, yeah, six under Padres now and again not too
long ago they were neck and neck with the Padres,
going back and forth, and the Padres took the West
for what two seconds? They were leading the division for
two seconds. I think they had a parade down there
in San Diego when they were leading the division. And
that lasted, you know, momentarily, And now the Dodgers are

(10:55):
six games up on them, and you're right, think about it.
It could vary easily turn into a double digit lead
real quickly. And we wouldn't even think twice about it.
It would just be.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Oh, oh they are okay, lit, big deal. We'll get
back in October. That's that's where we're uh, that's where
we can start focused on it. Who do we play?
Who do we play? Who we playing?

Speaker 2 (11:21):
That's really what it is. Who were playing in October?

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Not oh my god, we're in a neck and neck
tight race, Oh my god, we're twelve games up, we're
two games down.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
No, it doesn't matter. It doesn't It doesn't value matter.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
And that's that's the funniest part of being a Dodger
van Right now, at least during this run, the expectation
is there. They have delivered on the expectation, so you
don't worry about it. That's why the Dodgers have this mobility.
I will bring this guy and let him play a while.
Let's see what he does. No one can do this.
Do you understand? Every game matters to everybody? Not here're fine,

(12:01):
sazaki ea don't know how to pitch and let him learn.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
It's fine.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Well, he's gonna get a rough doub a little bit.
That's okay. You'll figure out and think about that.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Other teams they're sending guys up and down, because guys
are struggling for a week or ten days, they're struggling.
Oh they've had you know, you know, a rough May,
a rough couple weeks in May. So we gotta send
them down. We're gonna bring somebody else to see if
he can go. The only time Dodgers really do it
is injuries. Injuries, you know, and they have a stable
of guys ready to come up and ready to perform.

(12:31):
And by the way, think about it, if you if
you were to put together, because there's been several guys
up and down, put together a team of Dodgers from
you know, the guys playing in Oklahoma City, the guys
that are filling in for guys that are hurt. Put
together those teams of backups. They would, first of all,

(12:56):
they would be ahead of the Rockies and the Giants
in the division. That team, and they'd be right there
with the Diamondbacks and the Padres. If you were to
feel that team of Dodgers, Dodgers that have filled in
for guys that are hurt, say everybody for the Dodgers
got back healthy. And the Freelings.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Of the world, Ryan Wards of the world, you know,
Hassan Kim of the world.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
You know, they all played on one team. Think about it.
They would be competitive. They did more competitive than the Rockies.
They beat the Angels. Oh yeah, oh yeah, they would
beat the Angels. That's insane.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
That is insane. And if not beat them, they'd be
right there in it with them. I'll tell you that
they wouldn't get blown out.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
No, No, that's how deep they are. And it's it
is scary that they're guys they have hurt, and then
the guys that are kind of you know, struggling right now,
and yet six games up, that's what I'm saying. They
get even like Freddi and Otani getting hot, they get

(14:11):
even one more guy gets hot right now or gets going, yeah,
ye had the blink of an eye. They're going to
be ten games up. And this is not something that.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
We've you know, with the Dodgers, because it's been this
way for the last couple of years where they're hovering around.
They're back and forth with with the Padres and you know,
diving backs got in there. You know, a few years back,
they were you know, going they had to battle the giants,
you know a few years.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Back as well. For the Division, but it was you know,
it's about all the way through, and you know Ned
says this all the time. It's like you almost kind
of want it to be competitive down the stretch because
if you're too far up, then you're you don't play
real competitive games at the end. Then you got to
turn it on for the playoffs. So you know, this

(15:01):
is good and bad at that because you can rest
guys at the end if you're way up. But at
the same time.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
You want to feel like you're as you head into
the playoffs, you're playing for something, and these games start
to mean something, all right. So one guy, in all
of his happiness and good news, really is struggling, and
that's Kyle Tucker. Now, Kyle Tucker, there are expectations for
Kyle Tucker. You just give them the money he made.

(15:27):
I mean, he was a top free agent available. Well
there were two. The Dodgers just signed them both, Kyle
Tucker Edwin Diaz. Diaz got hurt. He'll be back eventually.
Kyle Tucker's not hurt, but he's hurting people's eyes watching
him because he's not performing. Really, He's sitting like two
sixty to sixty. You know, it's that bad sixty million

(15:47):
dollar guy.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I don't know. I don't know if that's not that bad.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
And when you look at him, you think to a
different degree, am I witness seeing Michael.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Conforto two point zero? Oh?

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Now, hold on, hold on, hold on, by the way, Conforido,
he's had some big hits for the Cubs. Now come on, Yeah,
he's playing a little bit. Now change the scenery. But
the thing is, no, he's not hitting.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Like eighty Tucker. I get that, but just.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Look at from an expectation perspective. There's an expectation of
what Tucker will do and fair unfairs because of the
money he made, and he's a pretty good player. He's
not performing at that level. So now you break it down,
you go, well, Confordo, God, he was like a buck
like oh ninety. He certainly wasn't performing at the level

(16:37):
that was expected. So are you to a point where
you go, well, and somebody suggested this and I loved it, Well,
maybe they should start platooning him. They're not gonna platoon
Kyle Tucker. That's not gonna happen. There's no he's playing
every day. He's not Michael Confordo. But what if it continues.
He's playing every day. He is playing every day. And

(17:00):
you said when he started here, Rodney, you know, I
bet he gets off to a slow start. You said
that because he's got to get adjusted. And now, what
are you talking about. He's a big league player, adjusted,
the guy he knows how to play. You were right,
he had to get adjusted. I guess the question. And
because you're the Dodgers, by the way, you can allow

(17:20):
this to happen, right, you can allow hell take till September.
It's fine, just just be hot then. But at one
point do you look at and go, he's not giving
us what we need.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
I don't think that happens at all this season. He
could struggle all the way through. You know, he was
brought here. Obviously. His track record is he's always been
a tremendous hitter and plays the outfield at above average level.
But hitting wise, he's he's he's always been an elite hitter.

(17:59):
So I don't think it's going to continue throughout the season.
But if it does, no, because he was not brought
in here to be the guy, to be the star,
the missing piece or whatever it may be. Where you
see so many guys trade it or go to a
different team, and the expectations are so high. He's not

(18:22):
a Jan Soto going to the Mets. He's not you know,
now Bobashett going to the Mets as Oh, he's got
to be the guy on a roster where he's the
best player. You know, there's a list of guys that
would be the guy before Kyle Tucker. You know when
you talked about Mookie and Freddie and O'taani, even Will Smith.

(18:42):
I mean the pressure maxim but the pressure is not
on Kyle Tucker to have to deliver night in and
night out for this Dodger team to win. I mean,
in fact, he's not really contributing much at all, and
the Dodgers are still six games up. Just imagine if
he gets hot. Imagine if he starts to get which
he can do and we've seen him do that in

(19:02):
the past, where he is just he's an automatic double
and he's an automatic guy that's gonna get on base
three times a game.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
So no, no, and you said it. The Dodgers have
the luxury of allowing him to keep trotting out there
and try to figure it out because he is not
expected to be the guy in which all of the
weight is on his shoulders. I want to make note

(19:31):
of one other baseball situation, the poor Angels. I saw
this yesterday and I just started laughing. Joe Adell earlier
in the year had a game where he made three
spectacular plays in the outfield. Three the final one.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
He saving plays home run, saving place.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
He jumped into the crowd, and there was that picture
of him standing up with his arms raised over his head.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
It was brilliant.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
I mean, it was perhaps one of the great defensive games.
And I don't like to expand things, but in MLB history,
I mean, it was unbelievable. Last night, they're playing Colorado,
so we all know what that means. It's the Battle
of the basement.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
Guy hits the.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Ball right, the Game of Thrones, Yeah, right, the Battle
of the basement guy. It's the ball to right center.
There goes Joe Adell. Jo Adell has lightning speed. Joe
Adell can make plays that others can only dream up.
He's chasing the ball, he's running, he sticks his glove up,

(20:41):
The ball hits the tip of his glove, hits him
squarely on the head, and bounces over the line for
a home run. Jo Adell got hit in the head
with a ball and it went over the line for
a home run. There's your Angels and there they are.

(21:03):
Who'd you think of when that happened, Because there's there's
one per there. You go, oh, yeah, it comes to
mind exactly. Now, Jose's was a little bit or buffoonery. Yes,
it didn't really hit his glove.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
It just hit off his head and just went over
the fence and bounced like a mile high after hit.
But yeah, that's all you can say this. This is
the Angels, right.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Sure, they come up with some great plays, and there
are moments that you look at and go, oh my god,
I'm so glad I saw that.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Then there are.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Moments you go, oh my god, I can't believe I
had to sit and watch that the ball went off
his head, over the line home run, And of course
Colorado won the game. Ladies and gentlemen, your angels all right,

(22:00):
ten million dollars? Well, but that being enough to sign
Lebron that's next.

Speaker 3 (22:05):

(22:25):

Speaker 1 (22:31):
All right, come on, let's keep it moving. Rodney Pete,
Fred Rogan on a hump Day on Wednesday. It is beautiful,
beautiful in southern California right now. Got a chance, if
you're driving around, go to the beach, do what you
want to do. Summer is basically here, Freddy, it's here.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Yeah, it is all right, Aaron Donald.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
We'll talk about this at one o'clock with Nate Atkins's
most recent text tweet. If I can find the fire,
it's a possibility when asked about a return to the Rams.
We'll get into it with Nate. But I thought at
first there was no way, no way possible, this could happen.

(23:13):
This would be unbelievable. If it happened, it would be
so much fun.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Yeah, we'll get into it, but think about it. He's
certainly healthy. He hasn't been beat up, he hasn't been
hit in the last couple of years, so that could be.
And he's what I think he's thirty five. I'm gonna
say thirty five, thirty six maybe tops, but yeah, that
would be Uh. Then you almost got to start thinking about,

(23:42):
on paper, one of the best defenses of all time.
You start thinking about Baltimore Ravens of two thousand, You
start thinking about eighty five Bears. You start thinking about defensive.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Teams with a dominance that can take you all the
way to a Super Bowl. And the Rams have the
making of that defense already. And then you add Aaron
Donald to that if he does come back. I mean, hey,
Matthew Stafford, just give me ten Just give me ten points.
That's all I need. Give us ten points. In fact,

(24:15):
just give us seven. You give us seven. We're only
gonna allow a field goal at best. And those teams
act like that. That was Baltimore in two thousand. That
was the point that season. They said, you give us
ten points and we'll win. That's all we need.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
And the Rams have the making it at especially if
Aaron Donald come back.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Let me ask you something. There's a guy to play
quarterback in the league. Yeah, all right, So if you're
lining up and Miles Garrett is on the other side
of the ball, yeah, you're gonna game You're gonna game
plan for him. You're probably double him.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Is that fair? Yes?

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Okay to get double them right, So now you're gonna
double him. Now you line up. Other side of the
ball is Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald. How many guys
can you double?

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Yeah, you can't. You can really only double one, two,
maybe if you double it with a running back helping.
But there's so many schemes, and that's why you see
you're starting to see more defensive head coaches because those
guys can scheme in a way that forces you to
double one guy with two offensive linemen, or keep the

(25:25):
tight end in, or have to double try to double
with the running back and an offensive lineman, which leaves
other guys open. And they'll play with your mind in
terms of blitzes and bring linebackers. So it makes it
difficult where they can isolate. The fact you say that
real quick is.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
That I remember in Detroit my last couple of years there,
they traded and got Reggie White.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
They had some other good players there. I think Tim
Harris was there was a guy who was crazy, but
he was really good bryce Pop, but they Reggie and
the way they schemed it. And this comes from preparation analytics,
you know, film studying, all those things. You would plan
for Reggie to be on the left side, right, and
he would be he's the left defensive end and so yeah,

(26:14):
we've got to schedule it and practice all week to
double him. And so Reggie would spend the first two
series kind of watching the offensive line and then he
would pick out the weaklink on that offensive line and
then he would move and start lining up over. It
could be the right guard, or it could be the

(26:35):
left guard, or I'm a line up right over the center.
And he would just move around, so you couldn't you
couldn't predict where he was going to be because he
would move around and say, okay, I got a week
one right now, and they got to block me one
on one, and he would just reac havoc on everybody.
It was like, wait, I had you over here, Reggie.

(26:56):
We had a plan for you over on the left side.
Now you're on the right side. No do that. You
got to go back. And it was it was not fun.
It was not fun. That's gonna be crazy, all right.
Nate Adkins will be on at well we'll talk about it.
Let's do this real fast. Him Kawakami reporting Warriors are
quote unquote a live option as opposed to a debt option.

(27:19):
They're a live option for Lebron, But the most they
could offer him is fifteen million bucks.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
They're a live option, they're in play, they're available, they're
out there. But the most they could offer him his
fifteen million dollars. When I hear fifteen million dollars, I
think the words the most they can offer.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Don't belong with that. That's it's like, yeah, no, but
it's all relative. So that's why you got to think
about it. It's hard to believe when you're just talking
regular terms. Hey, he's got to take a big discount
at fifteen million dollars, Like what world are we living
in where that's a that's a big discount.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
I mean I even talked to like the guys that
I played with, and you know, I'm I'm still alive
and spry and active and all that kind of stuff.
So it wasn't too long ago that I played. It
is unheard of that paying somebody fifteen million dollars was
considered a discount, And here we are fifteen million dollars

(28:23):
a year is a discount, and it's almost, as someone
pointed out that Lebron will see that as an insult. Yeah, insulting, embarrassed.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Insulting me paying me fifteen million dollars. But I guess
when you're getting normally getting fifty for red and you
go from fifty to fifteen, it's all relevant. Yeah. I
wish I had those problems.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Yeah, I think I'd be just fine, to be honest
with you, and I think out of the fifty air
would have saved something. Yeah, but then again, we've learned
to make fifteen miling mean anything. Fifteen you spread around you,
you know, that's the kid's salary. Now, okay, well, so
one year he's playing for the kids. You playing for
the kids, right, because he makes eighty million a year
off the court.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yeah, I think he's fifteen. Let's get spread that out
for the kids, all right.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
So let's say the Warriors are the live option of
fifteen million, and we won't factor into what your buddy
said that thought Lebron might call that an insult.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
We won't do that.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
So now let's say that's the baseline. Yeah, they've set
the baseline. So first of all, if that's true, if
I'm the Lakers, that's the most I'm paying you. Yeah,
that's the most. The line has been established. That's the most.
And I don't know if that's good or bad in
today's envy. Well, it's a lot of money. But if

(29:43):
they paid them fifteen, how much would they have to
play with? Not as much as if they paid them ten,
but of course that would be insulting. So fifteen million dollars,
that's the base line, all right. So now two questions
pop up. A are you going to play for fifteen
million dollars? That's the first thing. If that's it, we've
established the market fifteen Are you going to play for fifteen?

(30:09):
And if you say you will, well, then if the
Warriors and Lakers offer the exact same thing, where will
you play? That's the baseline.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Now, if that's the baseline, and that's and you've you've
done your research, and whether it's Cleveland anywhere else out there,
fifteen million dollars what you're gonna get.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
You're not getting a penny more. You're not getting a
penny more no matter where you go. If I'm him,
I'm staying right here in LA and playing for the Lakers.
The only thing I was thinking about when when this
came up, was is this going to be is? And

(30:50):
I find it hard to believe that he doesn't want one.
Is this Lebron setting up a farewell tour?

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Like? Is this going to be his? Give me the
rocking yare the Harley Davison wherever I go, the different
arenas for the last time. I want to be celebrated
as I go through it, And am I doing this,
you know kind of as I'm going to enjoy this
last season and have fun, and I'm gonna go do
it with my buddy up north, Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

(31:20):
Because they hang out together in the off season vacation together.
They know each other very well. It's been widely noted
that Lebron wanted to play with Steph for years. It
just never happened. He and Draymond are really close friends.
So is it one of those Hey, if I'm going
out now, I'm going to go out with my buddies
and let's go. Let's go have a year of just

(31:42):
just going from city to city having a lot of fun.
As call of the day, We're not gonna win a
title because they're not. He goes up there. They're not
winning a title, they're not positioned to win a title.
But maybe this is Hey, let me just hang out
with my buddies for a year. I could see that.
I could see that. But if you're thinking we may

(32:05):
have a chance, I'll take fifteen. And as it's been
you know, publicized, let me see what the Lakers are
going to do and surround us with that, we may
have a chance. If they get they bring in you know,
one more piece or two more pieces that can compete
with the Spurs. Okay, see, then we might have a
chance to really compete. But I'll stay here. If it's

(32:28):
you know, we're trying to win a title, yeah, I'll
stay here. I just don't know where his mindset is
in terms of what I want this last season to
be or that. I don't know. We can't even say
it's gonna be the last season because he may play
three more. But just assuming that this is the last one,
is it going to be here trying to go deep
in the playoffs or is it I'm just gonna have

(32:48):
a good time with my buddies up in Golden State.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
How about this? The Lakers offer twelve. The Lakers offers twelve.
Golden Stage at fifteen. Now, all right, here's the best.
We're gonna do twelve. I'm making it up. So there's
three million that you're gonna lose if you stay here.
Cause if this is true, Golden State just said it,

(33:12):
that's the market fifteen.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
I don't think it's the money. It's not the three million. Obviously,
you know when you're a billionaire, the three million. It's
not the that's not it.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
It is.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
It is more principal. It is Golden State was gonna
give me fifteen, and you're only offered me twelve. When
what is it the you know, veteran midline exception or
whatever they call it, is fifteen. So you can give
me fifteen, but you chose to give me twelve when
Golden State's giving me fifteen. I may feel a little

(33:45):
funny about that, and not because of the money, but
I'm just saying, just from a respect standpoint, you.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Know what, do us the solid we picked Bronni take twelve.
Do us as solid. We got your son on the team,
he plays with you.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
We made that happen. Take twelve. No, it's still an
insult if he left.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
If he did go play with his buddies in Golden State,
which is a really interesting scenario the way you set
that up. How do you think Laker fans would feel.
How do you think they would react to it? Would
they feel upset that he left? Would they feel relieved
that he left? How do you think they.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Would feel for the same money, like everything was equal,
everything's equal, and they chose he chose to go to
Golden State.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
That's right, he's out.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
How would they feel where the and and the Lakers
offered him fifteen as well, so it was like choice
to stay here or go to Golden State and he
went to Golden State.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Yep, same money. I think half half of the fans
would say, it'd be happy, Oh it's time to move
on from Lebron, like you hear the noise, And I
think half of them would be upset that he chose
Golden State as opposed to stand here, because there's a
lot of pride with the Lakers. Why would you go

(35:08):
up there? It's we're the Lakers. You were here and
you abandoned us at the end when the money was
the same and everything was equal, and you left us.
So there would be a lot of fans that are hurt,
and then there's a lot of fans that half the
fans would be relieved that now they can move on
from Lebron.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
All right, let's say the money was less with the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Let's say the money was less then at many less,
it makes his decision a little bit easier because it's
not the money. It's principal. You know, you got to
look up and go, Okay, they're about to pay Austin Reeves.
He's going be about to make thirty plus a year. Yes, right,
so he's gonna make thirty plus a year. And I

(35:54):
was more of an impactful player at fifty five years
old last year playing in the playoffs than he was,
And you're paying him thirty and paying me twelve, and
you're not even giving me the same as Golden State
was willing to offer me. Again, not about the money,
is about the respect. Because if it's a going rate. Now,

(36:16):
if somebody comes in and it's like who Cleveland says,
oh yeah, we can up it, we can give you twenty,
then that's a different story. But if the baseline is
fifteen around different teams and the Lakers low ball them
to twelve, that's an insult.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
Nate Atkins, rams beat writer for The Athletic. He'll be
joining us coming up at one o'clock. We'll get more
into Miles Garrett and the possibility of Aaron Donald coming back.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
Oh, Let's go. Today's Afternoon Delight is handle by Raven Lenee.
The song is the latest single off the Chicago Nada's
fourth coming album, entitled Blue Island, which will be released
in August. A recent interview about the projects, he said,
this album will show the full scope of my identity,
the quirks, flirty energy, teenage angst and that often leads

(37:30):
well into the years outside of its allotted window, as
well as the quiet, lonely, offbeat moments that happen when
you're in the midst of transformation. Again, Today's Afternoon Delight
is handled by Raven Lenee.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
All Right, and now from the court to the court
room with Jacob m Rani.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
All Right, what a treat Our Weekly checked well, America's
attorney Jacob mron.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
And Jesse the America is a attorney. Yes he is.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
He is.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
That's there's no kidding around here. I mean, you think
he's big in southern California. Let me tell you here's
the world's attorney. You got a problem in istan Bull,
you called Jacob and Ronnie. That's why he's got an
eight hundred number. You can call it from anywhere in
the world.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
Oh you did, you know? I did go I did.
I did do a summer a broad program in law
school and uh, you know, in Greece. So oh, you know,
I do have to say that that was definitely a
nice comparison of you know, the European Union and their
laws compared to what we get to do here in California.
It is rather interesting.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
Well, I got to tell you something then, Jacob, my
son just did his junior year abroad in Greece and
just got back. So now he's following it in great footsteps.
You did yours and he did his. Oh my god,
I love more into real estate than he is law.
So he's not going to be a lawyer. But man,

(38:56):
that is uh, that is a boat of confidence for
the pet House sold that Jacob went to Greece for
as you're abroad and my son went to Greece for
is you're abroad?

Speaker 4 (39:06):
I love it, I love it.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
I love it, Jacob, As you were abroad and you
were studying, what were the differences in the law? I mean,
for example, in Greece, can you just kill somebody and
get off?

Speaker 2 (39:16):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (39:16):
You know, I mean, I'll be honest with you. Obviously,
there's nowhere in the world that has the protections that
you know, we fight for every single day to protect
victims here in this country. But even within our country,

(39:36):
as you know, Fred, every state is different. What goes
on in California is not how things are treated in Texas.
You know, different states have different mentalities of which side
of the aisle they fall on. But when you go
to the European Union you're doing, you know, looking at
the laws there, I would have to say that they're

(39:57):
nowhere close to as victim friendly as you know what
we are blessed with, you know here in the United States.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
Yeah, in the most most countries over there, the burden
of proof is on the victim right to prove your
innocence as opposed to prove your the state or the
country to prove you're guilty.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
I mean, listen, you know, they obviously know how to
ward it. But of course you're starting off, you know,
in the negative. You know, when you're in those countries,
and you know, unfortunately, sometimes depending on what court room
or what judge you're getting locally here and even in California,
in what area you know, we have a case, we

(40:42):
sometimes feel like it's the wah wah West because of
just you know. I mean, if you do a case,
for example, in San Bernardino, it's completely different than doing
a case here in downtown LA. You know, you have
different jurors, you have different mentalities. If you do a
case in Santa Monica, you get a different jury pool
that you're getting in downtown LA. So depending on you know,

(41:04):
your clients, you know, the results I do believe tremendously
are affected by the type of jury pool that you
get to pick from and which you know, which side
of the aisle they're gonna lean on. When it comes
down to you know, any kind of a legal case,
whether it's criminal, whether it's civil, whether it's personal injury,

(41:24):
whether it's a real estate case. I mean, you would
be shocked how two different, you know, two different areas
can come back with completely completely different results.

Speaker 1 (41:35):
All right, Jacob, Our listeners love when you offer advice.
We're talking about the law today, and if someone is
involved in an accident, and I don't care what kind
of accident it is, they're involved in it, what should
they do, let's say, for the first or in the
first two weeks after they get hurt.

Speaker 4 (41:55):
Okay, So you know this is a great question because
currently right now I've stepped away from immediation that we
have for a client of ours who was involved in
an accident in about three years ago. He was t
boned by a big Bobcat truck and you know, he
suffered some real injuries and ended up seeing you know,

(42:17):
a doctor at Kaiser. You know, within the first twenty
four hours after the accident, and you know, he was
clear that he had neck issues, back issues, some shoulder
issues because he was t boned and basically thrown to
the left and he even hit his head. They even

(42:38):
told him he had a concussion. Why am I talking
about this is because even with that happening, sometime down
the line, his next issues got worse. Him and his
doctor together believed that the only way he can get
reliefed after all of the conservative treatment, that he needs
to have surgery, and he had surgery. Now we've spent
the first four and a half hours today with this defensive,

(43:01):
pompous defense attorney who is saying that our client didn't
even need an next surgery and this was all just
made up and you know, all the stuff they like
to say so that they could keep the money in
their pocket. And what has allowed us to at least
find some level of daylight, it's not with the defense
attorney because he's just you know, putting on a show,

(43:22):
but with the adjuster from the insurance company is because
we were able to show them very clearly that within
twenty four hours after the accident, our client ended up
going to Kaiser, which is completely completely right down the middle.
They don't have a horse in this race. They had
no idea that this client and how badly the client
was going to be injured and would have, you know,
an injury claim. But Kaiser clearly documented that our clients

(43:47):
suffered a concussion and our client complained of major neck issues.
So the fact that this particular client was proactive enough
to get to the emergency room to go to Kaiser
who's his insurance. To make sure that clearly laid out,

(44:07):
you know, his injuries helps him a lot now because
three years later, the defense is trying to say he
didn't need it and he didn't even complain of neck pain,
and we're like, okay, yeah he did, and here's you know,
here's exactly what it is. The Other part of it
is that even though he was proactive, the person at
Kaiser did not really write down how the accident occurred.

(44:29):
And in the accident they ended up writing that he
got hit on the right hand side, even though it's clear,
clear evidence that he got hit on the left side
of the car. So why go through this is because
you have to be your own advocate throughout the whole case,
and even in the beginning when you don't have an
attorney like our firm that is going through every document,

(44:52):
you know, with a microscope. Here's the type of stuff
that you got to make sure that at a hospital
and an urgent care as your primary care physician, that
you clearly review the documentary you're writing down in your
initial PaperWorks the parts of the body that hurts. Whether
it's a two out of ten or a ten out
of ten, you have to mention it because if our

(45:13):
client who had neck issues would have decided, hey, my
nex issue is not as bad as my back, so
I'm not going to mention it, he would have completely
given a winning card to defense. It would never have
been in the Kaiser records, and even though he got
worse over time, we would never be able to show that, yes,
he in fact complained of it, of that, you know,
to a completely completely you know, innocent third party, which

(45:36):
is Kaiser, and take that, you know, take that argument
away from the defense.

Speaker 2 (45:44):
Wow, all right, Jacob, Sorry.

Speaker 4 (45:48):
Man, I know, I know that's a lot, but I
really do feel it's like it's live going on right now,
and it's a real life case that's going on. And
I think and I hope that our listeners who are
listening to this can remember that and pick this up
if they are Scott forbid one of their loved ones
ever involved in any kind of an injury.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
No, that's great to know. All right, get back in there, Thanks, Jacob,
Appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (46:13):
Appreciate you guys. Have a good day.

Speaker 1 (46:21):
Aaron Donald, could he come back and join Miles Garrett
Nate Atkins right about the rams for the athletic is next.
