it just the Spurs obviously are a younger team. It
just and as we say it all the time, you
got to be playing the best at the right time,
and the Knicks are playing the best basketball at the

right time. They're gelling at the right time, which we've
seen when we talk about the Dodgers. We've talked about
teams have gone on runs, but then are playing the
best basketball as a group, as a team right now.
But I also think that the Spurs were gassed, you know,
going through that grueling seven game series that they had

with OKC.

I think they were tired. They looked tired in the
second half.

They looked tired in the fourth quarter, especially top to bottom,
and didn't have the juice that they had against OKC
in those last couple of games. And maybe they'll bounce
back in Game two. But right now, the Knicks looked
like they were the fresher team, and of course they
were because they swept the Cavs and had what twenty
five days off before they played that game, So they

were the fresher team, and it looked like that, especially
in the second half. But this is going to be
a battle. I think that the Spurs come back and
I think they're going to make a series out of it.

I want to say this, watching the end of the
game last night, when it was really tight and the
Knicks were making plays, and there was a ball that
went out of bounds under their basket and the ball
went back to them was off the San Antonio player.
If you watch the bench, these guys look so genuinely
excited jumping around. They looked like a bunch of walk
ons in college basketball, just celebrating every moment. I don't

think I've seen an NBA team as a group on
the bench jump up and get as excited. Honest to god,
I thought I was watching like a mid major college
game with those guys jumping around.

They were so excited. Oh, come on.

They call them the Nova Knicks for a reason. It's
the NBA Finals. They should be excited, there, Freddie, And
that was a big time Game one victory for New York.

But you gotta admit that was, and we said it
old school basketball. That was physical play. They let them play,
and I'll tell you the strong will survive in that one.

It was. I like the fact that they swallow the
whistles a little bit more in the playoffs. I agree
with Rodney, it should happen more throughout the regular season.
I think fans would appreciate that. But last night, the
physicality in particular seemed to get to Victor Wemenyama, a
little bit with Karl Anthony Towns and just how good
he was against him, where Victor in the matchup data
said he went two of twelve when Kat was on him,

and he was just six of twenty one overall. So
it's amazing that it was just a two point game
with about a minute ten left and Victor Wemenyama has
a game this bad and it tells you how good
San Antonio is because of that. But the Knicks won
that game by being clutched late. And that's what Jalen
Brunson has done throughout the entire playoffs. Guys, he is
averaging ten points per game in fourth quarters in the playoffs.

He had thirteen last night. And with the way he
made that shot, the dagger shot over Devin Vessell where
he's falling away on the right elbow, that was an
incredible shot that we'll remember for a long time if
the Knicks go on to win this series.

Yeah, does he get enough credit at him as being
a guy that is as clutch as he is and
in that superstar category like we talk about Luca and
SGA and some of the other guys around the league.
It feels like he is on a different tier than
some of the guys we talk about as the elite
players in the league, when all he does is be

clutched in every single moment. He is the heart and
soul of that Knixt team. He can put him on
their back when he needs to, and he's for such
a Maybe it's because he's such a smaller guy that
he doesn't look like he should be like the guy
that shoulders all of the responsibility. But he gets it
done on a regular basis. I don't think he gets

enough credit.

Oh he's consistent. I mean last year he did win
Clutch Player of the Year. And I don't know if
they just go off points per game in the fourth
quarter or point totals in the fourth quarter to calculate
that new award that came out with which is named
after Jerry West. Shay won it this year. But you're right,
the smallest player on the floor when you got a
seven to five guy out there, was the best player
in the game last night. And he just has this

will about him. While fans were talking trash to him apparently,
and he was talking with Scott Foster about a postgame,
he was upset about that it didn't seem to affect
him because he didn't have his greatest game. Sometimes in
the playoffs, though, it is less about efficiency, it's more
about volume out there. And he ended up just twelve
to thirty one. But he was so good when it

mattered most. That's what you'll remember. That three pointer he
also hit in the far side corner that he generated
off the offensive rebound that he tipped out. Those were
just gritty winning plays that you have to have in
a game like that. And I think the New York Knicks. Look,
I took san Antonio on seven before the series started.
The Knicks were the underdogs obviously, but they had to

get that game. After they took control late like that,
they couldn't give it away. Now you get the split.
Now you have to have san Antonio has to win
a game in Madison Square Garden. But I do think
there were some mistakes that can be cleaned up by
the Spurs where they can counter some of this stuff
because Jalen Brunson, they have a lot of guys they
can throw at him. But on the offensive end, san Antonio,

Mitch Johnson he took out and I've been critical of
him in the Western Conference Finals, they would get up
big early on OKC and he'd take Victor women Yama
out of the game early on, and then the Thunder
would go on a run, he'd put him back in.
They didn't play their best player. You could argue last
night in Dylan Harper big minutes in the fourth quarter.

He was their leading scorer heading into the fourth and
he got three minutes in the fourth quarter. It was absurd.
He looked like the best player for them in that game.
Darren Fox took his minutes. Mitch Johnson was asked about
it today and he said, yeah, you can understand the
logic of that. It's tough because we got some many
talented guys on this team. But this is the NBA Finals. Hey,

why are you worried about politics and playing the guy
with the big contract that you traded for the elder
Statesman Because he's twenty eight to twenty nine compared to
Dylan Harper, who's only nineteen in a rookie. Who cares?
Who was playing better in that game? Who's Dylan Harper?
He was incredible. He looks like a six to six
Kyrie Irving. I've been saying this for a while, guys,
in two years he might be a top ten player

in the league, and to me, that was just coaching
malpractice to not have him in in key moments in
the fourth quarter what he looked like he was rising
to the moment once again and wasn't able to be
stopped by New York. So I expect some adjustments. I
expected to be tied up. Victor Webinama's gonna play much
better in every series. So far throughout the playoffs, san

Antonio has split the first two games and they've gotten
to this point, So I think the same thing's gonna happen.
Wemby's gonna show up in a big way in Game two,
and they're gonna have it tied up heading back to
New York for Game three.

Yeah, I just felt like san Antonio looked tired. They
look gaspihally in the second half and the fourth quarter.
But you're right about Dylan Harper. Sometimes when a guy
gets to going and it feels like that, you know
he's a talented kid. But that light bulb went off
in these playoffs and he realized I can be the guy.
I can take over certain things that some other guys can't,

and he's got that mentality that they can't stop me.
And so you got to ride guys like that when
they're feeling it. And I think you're right that they
didn't play a guy that is feeling and has been feeling.

It throughout the playoffs. On the flip side of us, Adam.

Talk about Mike brown Man and what he's been able
to do, and and friend and I talked about how
he's just been I don't know unless they call it
disrespected but not really appreciated of how good a coach
he has been and is and now he's able to
show that. What do you think about the job Mike
brown has done in just a year removed from Tibbs leaving.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
That, Yeah, I think it's underrated. I think he always
has been because you know, he gets to the finals
with Lebron, so you're thinking, you know, how much did
he really affect things? And he got placed with that,
and then he got fired from the Lakers five games
into his second year after Kobe gave him the desk
stare and then he's a Golden State and how much
credit does he get there? Well, he got credit from

everybody else outside of Sacramento except for you know, the
front office, or I would say the owner in this
case obviously didn't appreciate him enough. I think Mike Brown,
if they go on to win this series, we'll finally
get his just do and finally get his respect here.
And a lot of pressure was on him because they
were down to one to Atlanta in that first round.

And I said it on FNA on Fox Sports Radio
with Kevin, if they lose this series, he's probably gonna
get fired. That's probably it, because you brought him in
to take that next step. You don't fire Tibbs and
then lose in the first round to Atlanta. The next year, Well,
they haven't lost a game since they forgot how to
lose after going down two to one, they've won twelve

not exactly the most stable owner. There's some familiarity with

they go on to win the NBA Finals, Mike Brown
will be a tasting that champagne, and a lot of
people will be look at the Sacramento Kings get to
watch Daron Fox either win the championship or Mike Brown

win the championship. They got all kinds of issues going
on there.

Are they gonna move that draft pick?

Well, if it happens, it's not gonna happen till they're
on the clock, because you have to wait and see
if anybody slips out of the top four. I don't
think it's gonna be de Bonsa or Peterson, but maybe
cam Boozer or maybe maybe Caleb Wilson. Maybe somebody goes
for a cuff instead and one of those guys falls

back to you and makes your decision pretty easy. So
it's not gonna happen till draft night. That's the prudent
thing to do. You have to wait until you're on
the clock and see what's available on the board. I'm
not the biggest on cam Boozer, but I understand his
floor is pretty high. He could be a Kevin Love
type or late career Blake Griffin when he lost a

lot of his athleticism with Detroit. But Caleb Wilson's very
interesting and he's so raw that if he falls to
you, you have to take that guy. But if not, you
got real decisions to make. Is it going to be
Darius Acuff all of a sudden? Michael Brown Junior is
the guy that's flying up draft boards because apparently the
lower back issue is fine, all healed up, and he's

killing all the workouts and the explosion is there, and
there's just a grip of guards that you have to
choose from. Keith Woggler was the guy that initially seemed
to be, at least from reports on the Clippers radar
with the run he had with Illinois, and people comparing
him to SGA a little bit, I think that's too
high a praise. I've gone back and watched those Kentucky

clips with SGA and I don't see the similarities that much.
I think he actually has to work far too hard
at the college game to get a shot off Woggler.
That concerns me. Flemings. He didn't take a ton of
three pointers, so people are worried about that. But his
mid range is great. Burry's out of Arizona. People like him,
but a cuff would be the easy pick. If he

was an inch or too taller, that would be it.
So maybe if New York goes on to win the finals,
I mean, Jalen Brunson could do this for all the
smaller guards out there. This is Becky Hammond's worst nightmare,
who a couple of years ago said he's not a
one A. He can't be your number one guy on
a championship team. Jalen Brunson, Well, if he leaves them
to the NBA Finals, and look, I've had my doubts

too of players this small who typically get picked on,
including him. But that may shift some people's thinking and
all of a sudden, a Cuff may look a lot
better in the draft, even though I think without shoes
he was six' to two or something like that at the.
Combine BUT i think skill wise he's the most polished
offensive player out of the guys of The big. Four

he's A calipari. Guard you kind of know what you're getting.
There it's just is he going to be too deficient
on the defensive end where he hurts you too much
on that? Side is he bore of a sixth man
and not exactly a number one or number two on

defense came back into play in terms of being able

blueprint kind of going forward of not only playing, defense
but having the depth and having five guys on the
court that can play offense and. Defense because we saw

earlier today and said there was a conversation he had
With Dave roberts that actually fueled him to improve and

now be the productive player that he is now for The.
Cubs he's playing much much. Better so he said he
had a tough realization last year playing for The. Dodgers he,
SAID i wanted to slug with the, superstars and WHEN
i wasn't doing, THAT i REALIZED i didn't have a
place to. Go he said a message That Dave roberts
gave him towards the end of the regular season is
that he had to find a way to be, valuable
give me a reason to keep you out, around find

a way to be, productive and he just couldn't find
that with The. Dodgers he said he took that to
heart and kind of went back and changed his, approach
and now he's been a more productive player with The
cubs because he's back to being. Himself so it made
me wonder if there was an aspect of keeping up
with The, joneses and everybody's individual situation is, different but
it made me think Of Kyle, tucker who was great last,

There but a struggle this year. Too the idea that
you're playing in a lineup with so many great, players
is there a situation in your mind where you feel
like you have to be able to keep up and

Sport growing, up you were the best player in that little.

a point where everybody's good and everybody was the best growing,

was the best at their particular little, league high, school
wherever it. Was and so there's an ego factor involved
in all of, that and you've got to understand your,
role and it's easy to get caught up into that and, say,

to be the. BEST i had to keep up With
otani And freeman And bets and everybody else BECAUSE i

that they're allowing it to be physical. And to me, Fred,
it just the Spurs obviously are a younger team. It
just and as we say it all the time, you
got to be playing the best at the right time,
and the Knicks are playing the best basketball at the

right time. They're gelling at the right time, which we've
seen when we talk about the Dodgers. We've talked about
teams have gone on runs, but then are playing the
best basketball as a group, as a team right now.
But I also think that the Spurs were gassed, you know,
going through that grueling seven game series that they had

with OKC.

I think they were tired. They looked tired in the
second half.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
They looked tired in the fourth quarter, especially top to bottom,
and didn't have the juice that they had against OKC
in those last couple of games. And maybe they'll bounce
back in Game two. But right now, the Knicks looked
like they were the fresher team, and of course they
were because they swept the Cavs and had what twenty
five days off before they played that game, So they

were the fresher team, and it looked like that, especially
in the second half. But this is going to be
a battle. I think that the Spurs come back and
I think they're going to make a series out of it.

I want to say this, watching the end of the
game last night, when it was really tight and the
Knicks were making plays, and there was a ball that
went out of bounds under their basket and the ball
went back to them was off the San Antonio player.
If you watch the bench, these guys look so genuinely
excited jumping around. They looked like a bunch of walk
ons in college basketball, just celebrating every moment. I don't
(02:20):
think I've seen an NBA team as a group on
the bench jump up and get as excited. Honest to god,
I thought I was watching like a mid major college
game with those guys jumping around.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
They were so excited. Oh, come on.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
They call them the Nova Knicks for a reason. It's
the NBA Finals. They should be excited, there, Freddie, And
that was a big time Game one victory for New York.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
But you gotta admit that was, and we said it
old school basketball. That was physical play. They let them play,
and I'll tell you the strong will survive in that one.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
It was. I like the fact that they swallow the
whistles a little bit more in the playoffs. I agree
with Rodney, it should happen more throughout the regular season.
I think fans would appreciate that. But last night, the
physicality in particular seemed to get to Victor Wemenyama, a
little bit with Karl Anthony Towns and just how good
he was against him, where Victor in the matchup data
said he went two of twelve when Kat was on him,
(03:13):
and he was just six of twenty one overall. So
it's amazing that it was just a two point game
with about a minute ten left and Victor Wemenyama has
a game this bad and it tells you how good
San Antonio is because of that. But the Knicks won
that game by being clutched late. And that's what Jalen
Brunson has done throughout the entire playoffs. Guys, he is
averaging ten points per game in fourth quarters in the playoffs.
(03:37):
He had thirteen last night. And with the way he
made that shot, the dagger shot over Devin Vessell where
he's falling away on the right elbow, that was an
incredible shot that we'll remember for a long time if
the Knicks go on to win this series.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, does he get enough credit at him as being
a guy that is as clutch as he is and
in that superstar category like we talk about Luca and
SGA and some of the other guys around the league.
It feels like he is on a different tier than
some of the guys we talk about as the elite
players in the league, when all he does is be
(04:12):
clutched in every single moment. He is the heart and
soul of that Knixt team. He can put him on
their back when he needs to, and he's for such
a Maybe it's because he's such a smaller guy that
he doesn't look like he should be like the guy
that shoulders all of the responsibility. But he gets it
done on a regular basis. I don't think he gets
(04:33):
enough credit.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Oh he's consistent. I mean last year he did win
Clutch Player of the Year. And I don't know if
they just go off points per game in the fourth
quarter or point totals in the fourth quarter to calculate
that new award that came out with which is named
after Jerry West. Shay won it this year. But you're right,
the smallest player on the floor when you got a
seven to five guy out there, was the best player
in the game last night. And he just has this

will about him. While fans were talking trash to him apparently,
and he was talking with Scott Foster about a postgame,
he was upset about that it didn't seem to affect
him because he didn't have his greatest game. Sometimes in
the playoffs, though, it is less about efficiency, it's more
about volume out there. And he ended up just twelve
to thirty one. But he was so good when it
(05:17):
mattered most. That's what you'll remember. That three pointer he
also hit in the far side corner that he generated
off the offensive rebound that he tipped out. Those were
just gritty winning plays that you have to have in
a game like that. And I think the New York Knicks. Look,
I took san Antonio on seven before the series started.
The Knicks were the underdogs obviously, but they had to

get that game. After they took control late like that,
they couldn't give it away. Now you get the split.
Now you have to have san Antonio has to win
a game in Madison Square Garden. But I do think
there were some mistakes that can be cleaned up by
the Spurs where they can counter some of this stuff
because Jalen Brunson, they have a lot of guys they
can throw at him. But on the offensive end, san Antonio,
(06:04):
Mitch Johnson he took out and I've been critical of
him in the Western Conference Finals, they would get up
big early on OKC and he'd take Victor women Yama
out of the game early on, and then the Thunder
would go on a run, he'd put him back in.
They didn't play their best player. You could argue last
night in Dylan Harper big minutes in the fourth quarter.
(06:24):
He was their leading scorer heading into the fourth and
he got three minutes in the fourth quarter. It was absurd.
He looked like the best player for them in that game.
Darren Fox took his minutes. Mitch Johnson was asked about
it today and he said, yeah, you can understand the
logic of that. It's tough because we got some many
talented guys on this team. But this is the NBA Finals. Hey,
(06:45):
why are you worried about politics and playing the guy
with the big contract that you traded for the elder
Statesman Because he's twenty eight to twenty nine compared to
Dylan Harper, who's only nineteen in a rookie. Who cares?
Who was playing better in that game? Who's Dylan Harper?
He was incredible. He looks like a six to six
Kyrie Irving. I've been saying this for a while, guys,
in two years he might be a top ten player

in the league, and to me, that was just coaching
malpractice to not have him in in key moments in
the fourth quarter what he looked like he was rising
to the moment once again and wasn't able to be
stopped by New York. So I expect some adjustments. I
expected to be tied up. Victor Webinama's gonna play much
better in every series. So far throughout the playoffs, san
(07:28):
Antonio has split the first two games and they've gotten
to this point, So I think the same thing's gonna happen.
Wemby's gonna show up in a big way in Game two,
and they're gonna have it tied up heading back to
New York for Game three.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Yeah, I just felt like san Antonio looked tired. They
look gaspihally in the second half and the fourth quarter.
But you're right about Dylan Harper. Sometimes when a guy
gets to going and it feels like that, you know
he's a talented kid. But that light bulb went off
in these playoffs and he realized I can be the guy.
I can take over certain things that some other guys can't,
(08:02):
and he's got that mentality that they can't stop me.
And so you got to ride guys like that when
they're feeling it. And I think you're right that they
didn't play a guy that is feeling and has been feeling.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
It throughout the playoffs. On the flip side of us, Adam.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Talk about Mike brown Man and what he's been able
to do, and and friend and I talked about how
he's just been I don't know unless they call it
disrespected but not really appreciated of how good a coach
he has been and is and now he's able to
show that. What do you think about the job Mike
brown has done in just a year removed from Tibbs leaving.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
That, Yeah, I think it's underrated. I think he always
has been because you know, he gets to the finals
with Lebron, so you're thinking, you know, how much did
he really affect things? And he got placed with that,
and then he got fired from the Lakers five games
into his second year after Kobe gave him the desk
stare and then he's a Golden State and how much
credit does he get there? Well, he got credit from
(09:03):
everybody else outside of Sacramento except for you know, the
front office, or I would say the owner in this
case obviously didn't appreciate him enough. I think Mike Brown,
if they go on to win this series, we'll finally
get his just do and finally get his respect here.
And a lot of pressure was on him because they
were down to one to Atlanta in that first round.
(09:27):
And I said it on FNA on Fox Sports Radio
with Kevin, if they lose this series, he's probably gonna
get fired. That's probably it, because you brought him in
to take that next step. You don't fire Tibbs and
then lose in the first round to Atlanta. The next year, Well,
they haven't lost a game since they forgot how to
lose after going down two to one, they've won twelve

straight games.

felt if Mike Brown didn't win in the playoffs this year,
they'd fire him.

Yes, it's talking about James Dolan and the Knicks. Fred, Absolutely,
that could have happened.

What that would have been a complete collapse. That was
everything that they were headed for. This year, we have
to take that next step, and they have now. But
there was a ton of pressure and fire on him.
Uh and if you lost to Atlanta, Yeah, Fred, I
think he was gone.

Wow. Yeah, you're right. It is James Dolen. That's fair Rodney, Yeah, you.

Got you gotta place the wild card in there. He's
not exactly the most stable owner. There's some familiarity with
him and Vivek with Sacramento. But alls well, that ends well,
they go on to win the NBA Finals, Mike Brown
will be a tasting that champagne, and a lot of
people will be look at the Sacramento Kings get to
watch Daron Fox either win the championship or Mike Brown

win the championship. They got all kinds of issues going
on there.

All right, let's shift over now and let's start talking
about the future. Cliffords will start at your area of expertise.
Are they gonna move that draft pick?
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Well, if it happens, it's not gonna happen till they're
on the clock, because you have to wait and see
if anybody slips out of the top four. I don't
think it's gonna be de Bonsa or Peterson, but maybe
cam Boozer or maybe maybe Caleb Wilson. Maybe somebody goes
for a cuff instead and one of those guys falls

back to you and makes your decision pretty easy. So
it's not gonna happen till draft night. That's the prudent
thing to do. You have to wait until you're on
the clock and see what's available on the board. I'm
not the biggest on cam Boozer, but I understand his
floor is pretty high. He could be a Kevin Love
type or late career Blake Griffin when he lost a

lot of his athleticism with Detroit. But Caleb Wilson's very
interesting and he's so raw that if he falls to
you, you have to take that guy. But if not, you
got real decisions to make. Is it going to be
Darius Acuff all of a sudden? Michael Brown Junior is
the guy that's flying up draft boards because apparently the
lower back issue is fine, all healed up, and he's

killing all the workouts and the explosion is there, and
there's just a grip of guards that you have to
choose from. Keith Woggler was the guy that initially seemed
to be, at least from reports on the Clippers radar
with the run he had with Illinois, and people comparing
him to SGA a little bit, I think that's too
high a praise. I've gone back and watched those Kentucky
(12:34):
clips with SGA and I don't see the similarities that much.
I think he actually has to work far too hard
at the college game to get a shot off Woggler.
That concerns me. Flemings. He didn't take a ton of
three pointers, so people are worried about that. But his
mid range is great. Burry's out of Arizona. People like him,
but a cuff would be the easy pick. If he

that he had to find a way to be, valuable
