Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's Best Variety, the eighties
nineties and Today Day in the Morning and producer Anthony
and the Three Things You Need to Know to get
your Wednesday, July second started. Well, there's been a debate
over that two billion dollar expansion of the Georgia ar
Brown Convention Center. Residents of the East End say that
they are going to be cut off from downtown when
(00:21):
Polk Street is closed, and it's going to make getting
into downtown take even longer. The studies are saying this
isn't going to be a big problem and it will
only increase drive times by two minutes. Oh that's what
they're saying. Okay, So, speaking of neighborhoods, the Imperial Heights
neighborhood between forty five and Hardy Toll Road has been
in the dark the last several nights. Street lights have
(00:44):
been turned off. Reliant says they haven't been paid since January. Now,
the company, Principal Management Group of Houston says that they've
been paying what they've been sending the payments to the
wrong address. So hopefully they'll have that all cleared up
today and the lights will be back on. Tonight and
getting ready for our Fourth of July celebrations. Freedom Over
(01:04):
Texas at eleanor Tinsley Park. There's going to be the
Patriotic Harmony at Herman Park, the Skyline Celebration at Post
Houston out in the Woodlands, the Star Spangled Banner and
Katie Freedom Celebration at Typhoon, Texas. And in sugar Land
Space Cowboys against Round Rock Express game is going to
have the Patriotic Jersey giveaways, so so many great events.
(01:27):
Weather rain isn't going to be a problem, but the
heat will be. I mean, we're going to go up
to ninety nine on the fourth of July and one
hundred on Saturday. Today we go up to ninety five.
We've got that kind of hazy sunshine from the Saharan
dust right now, seventy eight in uptown and Europe to
day on sunny tell me something good brought to us
(01:48):
by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well, the good news
is weather is going to be calm but hot on
the fourth of July. So many Fourth of July activities.
I mentioned the Liberty Jubilee at Buffalo Bayou, Patriotic Harmony
at Herman Park, There's gonna be the Scott Celebration at
Post Houston. And there are other events going on all
over town, including the Fourth of July Celebration at Boardwalk
(02:11):
Town Lake that's out in Cyprus. There's gonna be the
fourth Fest at Houston Community College in Missouri City, and
the Fourth of July party at Home Run Dugout that's
at the Grand park Way in Katie. So I'm telling
you there are so many Fourth of July celebrations all
over town near you, you are bound to have the
(02:32):
best Fourth of July true ever.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Producer Anthony Dane. What a story of compassion for our
furry friends. There's a nurse named Shanna Frederick who has
an immense passion for rescuing strays and giving them a
second chance. She's known for caring for and feeding packs
of strays over in Houston's Fifth Ward. Back in December
of twenty three, she met a pup who stood out
though Her name was Freya, and Shauna was drawn to her.
She noticed poor pup had growth so all over her.
They managed to manage to trap Freya and get a
(02:55):
closer look at her, and it revealed even it was
even worse than they thought They actually recommended Ethany, but
they weren't ready to give up on her yet. An
amazing angel in North Houston volunteered to foster and take
her to get the much needed surgery, and after a
few weeks, Freya began to perk back up. Frey's foster
fell in love with the dog, and her children and
other dogs loved playing with her. They found a new
home up in Hockley and agreed to adopt her. It
(03:16):
was a little bittersweet though for Shauna, who didn't want
to say goodbye, but she's not too far away. And
even better, this experience inspired Shauna to start a small
rescue called Fifth Ward Babies. They depend on donations and
word of mouth to help spread the word about local strays.
You can find them on Facebook just search fifth Ward Babies.
But a happy ending for Freya, one of those sweet
babies who just needed.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
A little love. Not incredible, Wow, what a journey. Speaking
of incredible, he's only eleven years old. His name is Nate.
He lives in Corpus Christi. Nate Gonzalez. What a treat
he gave to a whole bunch of kids who are
dealing with the foster care system. He founded Nate's Next
Kid Up. This is a nonprofit with a mission to
(03:57):
uplift foster care kids. His organized recently brought one hundred
and fifty foster kids and families on a road trip
to dyke In Park to see an Astro's game. Nate
says seeing the kids smile in the stands was his
biggest reward. He actually started Nate's Next Kid Up when
he was only six years old. Wow. Donating Christmas toys
(04:19):
to kids in foster care age doesn't matter. It's all
about the heart. Right. You can find out more if
you'd like to help, or just find out about Nate
Nate's Next Kid Up. Dot org now for more feel
good stories. Each Weekday Mornings set a preset on the
new and improved iHeartRadio app to Sonny ninety nine point one,
Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's best variety of the eighties, nineties,
(04:42):
and Today I'm Dana with producer Anthony. I'm so proud
of myself, Anthony. You know, I got my phone stolen,
so I've been working to get back into all these apps,
trying to remember passwords and loggins and everything. I got
into Facebook. Now I'm able to see what you guys
are saying. We have some great questions and we're asking
you with Fourth of July on Friday, what are you
(05:02):
guys doing for the Fourth of July. I mean, I've
been mentioning so many Fourth of July celebrations, but you
guys have some sweet plans. I love for Michael his
family flew in from Egypt. Whoa body. That's a big celebration.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Seriously though, Lorrain or Loraina going to celebrate three beautiful Kincignettas.
That's a busy weekend. Yeah, Aaron shout out at work,
but making time and a half. My mom used to
be about that to get it. Aarin Jesse probably going
to Chema to catch their fireworks show. Also on the list,
Melissa Barbecue would go in swimming. Tim this is very relatable,
(05:36):
hanging out with my family, getting home before the firework
traffic starts, and consoling my dog during the fireworks display.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Oh and even Ronda says that men dedicating my dogs
and watching TV at home. We've had to do that before.
Remember that the dogs. Do you not like these fireworks?
Speaker 2 (05:51):
We're not really freak out and we're not allowed I
think in our neighborhood to do them like some people
will do like the like little light, the light like
the sparklers or something. But yeah, I away from any
of those noisy ones because our homes are too close together.
And like, everybody's got a dog and I can just
hear them howling right now, so really really very uncomfortable
for dogs. Something to consider. We also have Mason calling
(06:13):
in from Pasadena. Mason, what are you guys doing for
the fourth.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
I believe we're gonna go to the pool tomorrow and
just hang out with my cousins. Oh that's fun. Yes,
all right? So is this like a community pool? What
about your Fourth of July celebration dinner? What are you
guys going to be cooking out? Are all right? Mason?
Now you're talking our language, all right? Who's gonna be
making the barbecue? Is it you? Your cousins mom? Who's doing it?
(06:40):
And what is Mom's specialty? Masato's gonna make one of
those big Fourth of July cakes, you know where you
have the strawberries and the blueberries and the white cream
to kind of be patriotic.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, yeah, man, that's fun.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Yeah? Is the fourth of July one of your favorite holidays. Mason. Yeah, yeah,
it's just like summertime fun. Yeah, exactly, in a long weekend. Mason,
And how many cousins do you have, Mason, have the
best time. We are so glad. How did you find
(07:17):
Sunny ninety nine point one? I just heard we listened
to it other time. Well, we are so glad, so
appreciate y'all. Have fun at the pool, have an amazing
barbecue dinner, great dessert, and enjoy all your cousins. Okay, okay,
and give mom a big hug for us. Okay, thank you,
