Sunday ninety nine point one, We've got Houston's best variety
of the eighties nineties and today Dana in the Morning
and producer Anthony and the three Things you Need to
Know to get your Wednesday, January fourteenth started. Now. I
just felt like we had a lot of sun in
twenty twenty five, always felt sunny. What does around here anyway,
But great to find out that we were actually a
(00:22):
foot of rain below average last year. We normally get
fifty one point eight inches. We got thirty eight point
nine inches, and forecasters say this reflects a typical La
Nina winter pattern. At Memorial City MAL, yesterday's shoppers doing
their thing well, then Hasmat comes along. Fire department. Yeah,
shoppers sent outside after an ammonia leak at the mall's
(00:45):
ice rink. They came around four to twenty, sent everyone
outside in an abundance of caution. You get around ammonia,
you could pass out. Apparently there is the leak in
the mechanical room at the ice rink. It was closed
for the rest of the day. MAL will hopefully reopen
sometime to day and Texans fans listen up. We can
root for our team Sunday for free at the watch
(01:06):
party at Energy. Tickets are first come, first serve at
Ticketmaster for tickets per account. They're gonna be taking on
the New England Patriots and no tailgating allows, so you're
gonna have to go right into the stadium. Kickoff is
at two. Weather today beautiful, Sonny, We're going up to
sixty three. Then the cold, gusty weather moves in. Right
(01:28):
now it's forty eight and uptown and Europe to date

our friends at Goodwill Houston Well. For the first time
in decades, Houston will have one unified Martin Luther King
Day Parade. The Black Heritage Society and Martin Luther King
Grand Parade will unite for the city's first MLK Unity
(01:51):
Parade to honor the life and legacy of doctor Martin
Luther King Junior on Monday, January nineteenth. You can check
out all the details the parade, road closures and everything.
It'll be at Houston, TX dot gov. Predu Sir Anthony Dane,
this is exciting.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Or This past Thursday, Conro City Council members voted to
reserve forty two acres of a former technology park for
an expansive new public space, a space they say could
echo elements of two well used Houston area venues, the
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and Discovery Green Park. The space
could feature an amphitheater, walking trails, a play for play
area for children, a splash pag dog parks, space for vendors,
(02:28):
food trucks, and a man made lake potentially twice the
size of the one we have a Discovery Green. The
park could host everything from arts to cultural events, to
family friendly activities, movie nights, so much more. Now, while
the approval moves the project one step closer to reality,
the vote simply makes the or makes marks the agreement
to reserve the land for park use. Any future plans
would still need to go through approval. But get excited.
(02:50):
CONRO is about to bring something huge to the area
to be apps.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
I mean, CONRO is growing massively. And you know we're
still learning about the amazing runners at the marathon that
happened on Sunday. There's a team Team twenties, Team twenty seven,
that is, they came out. They were created to honor
the twenty seven young girls who died in the catastrophic
Hill Country floods July fourth of last year, Team twenty
(03:16):
seven ran with names on their hearts, and they wanted
to make sure these precious souls were remembered for the
bright light they brought to everyone in their lives. Isn't
that amazing? Beautiful? We always have our tell Me Something
Good stories up at Sunday nightety nine dot com, and
I encourage you to check out our free iHeartRadio app there.
They're there as well. Make us a first preset. It
(03:39):
makes it even easier for you to listen to Sunday
ninety nine point one. And we so appreciate you guys
listening Sunday nighty nine pointy one, Houston's best variety of
the eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony.
You know, Anthony, I read the Bible every morning. I
get up super early. Do my burpies read the Bible?
So I did? I kind of read it twice last year?
(03:59):
So I did? I say, I read two books last year.
You know, a lot of people read a lot more books,
But the Bible takes a long time out, you know.
And I'll have so many hours in a day and
you know, I definitely want to get other things done.
I've got lots of people that I want to hang
with and stuff. So I last year it was just
about the Bible. But this year I'm trying to incorporate
(04:20):
different books into my my Bible reading. And my son
gave me a book while I was on vacation. I
find it very ironic. You're gonna love it. It's called
the Ruthless Elimination of Hurry. Get hurry out of your
life because hurry leads to unhappiness. Wow, this sounds spoty
(04:40):
for you. Here's the irony. I read it in two days.
Oh and then I was done, and my son's like,
you're done already? Yeah, I go, well, Bobby, I do
everything fast. I can't help it. That's not the point
of the book. So I marinated on it. I thought
about it, and I'm trying consciously to slow down with
(05:01):
everything I do. But here's the deal with this guy.
He made it big all right. Now, when you become
a billionaire, it's easy to slow down after a life
of hurry because you have this, you've made it. You
have the ability to have work to do, in billion
appointments to keep So I was going to say, same times,
you have to hurry. There's nothing worse, in my opinion,
(05:23):
than showing up late. Yeah, and I am not I
will be the one to hurry. I'm not going to
put the burden on other people. You've always been that way. Yeah,
So that's that's why my life is hurry. I live
out in the country and it takes sometimes a long
time to get into this city. Oh it does, and
so it's just part of the equation of my life.
And so I will work on eliminating hurry. The fact
(05:44):
that you're aware that I'm aware, that's exactly. That's a
big step for you, Zach. That's huge. So we learned
in our nearly impossible question, was it forty percent of
us did not read a book in twenty twenty five?
Right now?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
It didn't did not read a book last year, but
hope to in twenty six.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
All right, how about you, Anthony, Are you a book
kind of guy or are you just like maybe more
audio No, I I love to be Actually, that's a
great point. I love both.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
I love audio books, but I don't get to read
like as many as I'd like to. And the ones
that are the ones that i've been. I actually picked
up a few last year, and I don't it just
got me a few. They're like, I don't know if
they're like leadership books, but just like ways to be
a better say leader or motivator.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
I guess too, like you.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Know, so self kind of self help. I was just
gonna say, kind of in that same self help vein.
And because I told Jess, I've been on a kick
the like last probably a couple of years where I
just I want to be a better, like a slightly
better person every day and if I can pick up
a nugget here and there, and so these these books
are are really good at just and I there's always
a takeaway, you know, and there's always something I can
(06:47):
I can put in practice in my day to day life.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
And they are very encouraging and very motivating.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
They are, and she knows that, like, I'm in a
position where I want to be like more more like that,
or just be someone people can turn to.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
So Anthony the Morning Show, he's also the assistant program director,
So you are a leader. Anthony runs the best meetings
of anyone I've ever met. Oh, Dana has said that
I love and that's what encouraged me, encouraged me more.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
To you, I was like, you know what, I don't
know about that, but I want to make sure that
I'm always like if it's me, it's not fun, it's
not h he's doing it again, you know, like that
just dread of like, oh, it's not it.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
I want it to be fun and engaging, no, very uplifting,
and that too, absolutely so true. So to your demeanor
is just what fires us all on. Oh that's very,
very true. That's the goal. What about you books that
you've got in line for twenty twenty six, Maybe you
read a great one in twenty twenty five and you
want to share it. We'd love to hear from you.
Seven one three two one two five ninety nine one
(07:43):
Sunday ninety nine point one seven twenty four. Now I'm
Dana with producer Anthony. We've got Houston's Best Variety of
the eighties, nineties and today sunny beautiful Wednesday, going up
to sixty three. Right now it's forty eight and uptown.
So forty percent of us did not read a book
in twenty twenty five. We learned that in a nearly
impossible question this morning at six forty. That means sixty
(08:04):
percent of us did, and Tristan, you're part of that
sixty percent. What did you like to read? What's the
genre that you like to read. I try to read
the psychological Throwers. Oh, any recommendations for those of us
who love that genre? The Silent Patient was really good.
That's Silent Patient? All right? And what are you reading
(08:26):
right now? I haven't started anything yet, but I hope
to read at least fifteen books this year. Fifteen that's
a great goal. Actually, yeah, do you read like every
day or do you wait until the weekends. What's your
reading schedule? Like?
Speaker 2 (08:38):
I try to read during my launch break and then
a little bit in the evening.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
So, Tristan, when you're reading a book, that means you're
unable to do the doom scrolling? Oh and mindless? Like,
are you on social media at all? I am, but
I'm trying to cut back on it. Oh yeah, your discipline? Yeah?
Do you like watching Netflix or Amazon Prime here and there? Yes, ma'am?
(09:04):
All right, So he's definitely a book reader. I love
the discipline. Tristan, you are an inspiration. Fifteen books in
twenty twenty six. Yeah, I hope you do it, you'll
feel so good about yourself. Do you have any kids?
I do, yes, ma'am. Okay, So how do you how
do you encourage them to read? What's your strategy? Dad?
Speaker 2 (09:23):
So they're all young enough to not read on their
own yet, so try to read before bed.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Oh that is excellent. What kid's books are you reading?
What would you recommend? I would say like if you
give a mouse cookie. We just had that a birthday
party on my vacation for a little three year old.
That was the theme of the party. That's such a
great idea, Tristan. How many kids do you have? Three?
And how old are they? There are four to two
(09:51):
and ten months. Oh wow, reading to kids there's nothing better.
That is excellent. Tristan. Thank you so much for sharing. Man.
We appreciate you listening. Yeah, thank you. I enjoyed listening
to the show.
