Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one on Day Not with producer
Anthony and we are Houston's holiday music station with the
three Things you need to Know to get your Wednesday,
December third started months of growing frustration over delayed heavy
trash pickups in all parts around Houston. Well, today is
a new day. Houston's going to clear the backlog. Starting today,

(00:23):
crews from a national debris hauling company are going to
help solid waste and they're going to first go to
the southwest side of town and then move north in
the coming day, so it'll all be cleaned up by
Santa Claus's arrival hopefully. Airbnb helping Houston get ready for
the twenty twenty six World Cup, donating one point three
million dollars. First of all, they're going to expand youth

(00:43):
soccer access and they're going to upgrade the Houston Columbia
Tap Trail in third ward. That way, this green corridor
will offer families eco friendly ways to move around, walking,
riding your bikes and all during the tournament. So that
should be kind of cool. And if Italy is on
your bucket list for twenty twenty six, Bush Airport just

(01:05):
made it a bit easier. They've been teasing this and
we finally now know what's up. A new airline's coming
to town with a non stop flight to Rome. It's
called Ita Airways. It'll arrive May first, twenty twenty six,
with three weekly flights, expanding to five weekly flights in June.
So pretty cool. Your weather today is going to be

(01:27):
cool too, going up to sixty two. Might see some showers.
Right now, it's forty two in uptown and you're up
to date. I'm sunny. Tell me something good brought to
us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. While the Angel
Tree program working along with the Salvation Army and Secret Santa.
I just love all these groups getting together. They want

(01:48):
to make sure that these families who are kind of
in this income gap where they make too much for
food stamps but too little to afford Christmas gifts. They
are teaming up and they're working with walmut, which is
one of the top places to go. You're gonna find
these tags containing wish lists from these needy families. You
buy the item, you can donate an unwrapped toy right

(02:10):
there to families in need. You can also donate online.
Go to the Salvation Army website to check out all
the details. Salvation Army Texas dot org. Producer Anthony Dean,
This is incredible.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Our local angels over at Houston Pets Alive will be
conducting their largest fundraiser ever thanks to a generous board
member who's going to be matching every donation up to
one hundred thousand dollars. So if you don't know them,
Houston Pets Alive has a mission to rescue dogs and
cats and shelters who have medical needs or face euthanasia
due to overcrowding, and with this generous match the nonprofit
says it can now save twice as many lives. So

(02:44):
if you're interested in donating, fostering, or adopting this holiday season,
they're having an adoption event coming up this Saturday from
eleven a m.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Till two.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
This could be your chance to provide a forever home
for a precious fur baby. Find out more go to
Houston Petslive dot org. Just like you did with Lily
right and she'd shame changed your life.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
I love Asia Town and it's soon going to welcome
a multimillion dollar development and it's more than an acre
of land along bel Air Boulevard. A permit has been filed.
It's kind of hush hush. It's been filed with the
bel Air Food District and construction is going to begin

(03:22):
next year and it should open up by twenty twenty seven.
And like I said, all the details are pretty hush hush,
but it's going to go big coming to Houston's Asia Town.
I'm excited for more colorful restaurants, bakeries and dessert shops.
Oh my gosh, I can't wait for that. Hey, you know,
we always have our tell Me Something Good up at

(03:44):

I'm you know, with producer Anthony Anthony. I keep looking
at those gingerbread house boxes that you can get at

(04:06):
Trader Joe's. Walmart has them really cute. That used to
be a tradition that we would do in our family.
We would make those dier read houses. Oh you would
it was such a disaster that I thought this year,
oh yeah, let's.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Do it again.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
No, it's a disaster.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Disaster. When we were talking about cookies, making cookies with families,
was it? What was our nearly impossible question. It was
a big thing, was it twenty years ago?

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Forty percent of families did it twenty years ago and
now less than twenty percent.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, because there's just so many other things that kind
of maybe we have created new traditions. So the gingerbread houses,
they would always collapse and I would just end up
eating the ice cream and the candy. So I thought,
you know what, I'm not doing that this year. And
we even made our own one year.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
I was.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
I just didn't have the money to get the box,
so we had gram crackers and I made icing and
just got some candy and we made them ourselves. That's
cool though, too real, fun actually, very creative, very fun.
What about you and Jess? Do you have any any
in your home Christmas traditions in addition to the Christmas tree?

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Oh yeah, there, I mean one of the things because
Jess is always baking that she loves baking cookies for everyone,
So I'll get a chance to try, like I'm not
very good at it, but she'll help me, like, let
me help her decorate what she's made so far. And
so I usually I'll get a couple of cookies that
I get to put my personal touch on. We'd like
to include those when we when we give gifts to people,
they constantly are like, look at what who made these?

(05:29):
It's like I probably write to her, you know, I'm
just like right here, guys.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah, the canisters that you can get at Hobby Lobby
filling the cookie and stuff. I know she started to
go there after the show today because everything's fifty percent off.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
I never understood love it that for many years and
then now like that, she'll get these like fancy tins.
Oh yeah, and I didn't know why beautiful and I'm like.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Oh now, best postes gift ever again. My daughter in
law makes these sugar cookies that are cooked to perfection
and she puts a Macha tea glaze on top. Oh
that is so it's this minty green. Oh, they're just
beautiful with those red cinnamony little candies.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
That's amazing. I should love to hear from you.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
In home traditions, things that you do around decorating the tree.
Do you bake cookies? What do you guys do? We'd
love to hear some of your ideas. Seven. It's like
you could become our Pinterest board, you know. Ninety nine Friday,
ninety nine point one, Houston's holiday music station Dana with
producer Anthony, and we're talking about family Christmas, family traditions

(06:34):
that we do in our own home. In addition to
decorating the tree. We learned that not many of us
do cookie cookies anymore, baking cookies? And uh so, what's
it for you? We've got Adne calling in from Galveston. Adney,
family traditions you do in your home? What would they be?

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Yeah, I'm the show, all right?

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Is your elf a very mischievous elf or a more
conservative elf? I know, it's really crazy.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
They went on a trip with us and they were
playing Twister today.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Twist my god, that's cool getting into the game, right
that one? You know, Adne, that's a great idea. I
love that very clever. So is it just one elf
or is it a whole family of elves?

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Three l three el Do you have three kids?

Speaker 1 (07:22):
My sister and my brother. Oh, that's fantastic.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Adney.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
I just love that. What is your all time favorite
thing about Christmas? Gift? And I bet a little bit
of Christmas music too?

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Right? Yes, we always listening to ninety nine one.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
We are so happy, Adne. Thank you for sharing a
little bit of your Christmas with us. We wish you
and your family a very merry Christmas. Thank you, Merry Christmas.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Now let's sit down to clear Lake and speak with Poloma.
What about you and your family?

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Do you have Christmas traditions that you celebrate in your home?
Putting up the Christmas tree, maybe baking cookies? What's it
for you? Guys?

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Try to go drive around the neighborhood and look at
all the Christmas lights?

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Oh pretty pastic.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Now you're in clear Lake. Is there an amazing neighborhood
out there that you could recommend?

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Well, not necessarily because I just moved here, maybe like
a year ago, so I'm still trying to like find
the areas. But you know, I mean a lot of
houses put their lights up, so we just have to
drive around.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Where did you move to clear Lake from from Humble?

Speaker 3 (08:23):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Yeah, so how you like in your new area? I
love it.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
It's really close to a lot of shopping areas and
just it's closure to everything, culture of our families.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
So is that what brought you there? Is that what
made you leave Humble? You just want to get closer
to family?

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Ah?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah, So will this be the first Christmas in your
new home? Yes?

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Oh, that you can start your.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Family traditions this year, right, Yes, that's amazing. How many
kids do you have?

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Just one? And I have a daughter. She's two years old.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Oh gosh, she's starting to really notice gifts and all
the fun that's going to be around.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
And she's obsessed with the trees right now and Grinch.
So it's a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
What's your name, Leah?

Speaker 1 (09:07):
What are you gonna what? What's Santa gonna get Leah
for Christmas this year?

Speaker 3 (09:11):
A small children's trampoline?

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Oh that's very good.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
She likes to bounce off the walls.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
You know, you can use Sonny as your Christmas soundtrack
and have your little girl bouncing along to the Christmas
music and you guys will just have so much joy.
