Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
the three Things you need to Know to get your Wednesday,
May sixth started. The worst commute in the US. Well,
we're not the worst, but we're number nine on the
list and it's a burnout commute. It is the worst
in Texas though. It's the Katie to Houston commute, and
you might be in it right now, so you're in

(00:23):
total agreement, although you might be in another bad commute area. Yeah,
from all of you this morning, it's called the worst
burnout commute in Texas. It's like your other job, just
getting through the snarls. Latricia's was Pearland. I know Chady
moved from Katie to go to Parland or was it

(00:43):
the other way around. Anyway, it's just not been good
for hers. So we feel your pain. That's why we're
here for you to bring you your favorite songs to
keep you calm. Now, this is some good news that
we're learning. Houston is the number one ranked among the
top searched World Cup destination. Actually were the number five rank. Okay,
I said it wrong. I'd like Houston be number one,

(01:04):
but we've got Monterey's number one, Kansas City number two, Guadalajara,
Dallas number four. Then Houston comes in number five the
top searched World Cup destinations. Houston's doing mighty fine in
that area, Okay. And then first it was Willowbrook. Yeah,
they started these teen curfews because of some social media

(01:25):
concerning posts and the mall's very concerned about the customer safety. Well,
now Memorial City Mall is following suit starting this weekend.
Under seventeen, got to be with someone twenty one or above,
and you've got to show proof of age. And again
that's starting teen curfews at Memorial City Mall starting this weekend.
Weather today got some rain around forty percent, chance going

(01:48):
to go up to eighty five right now seventy two
and up ten. And you're up to date from Sunday
ninety nine point one.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Sunny ninety nine point one with Dana in the morning,
getting your day started. Goods say give us your good news,
Tell me something good brought to us by our friends
at Goodwill Houston.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Who doesn't love Canadas? Your Panda Fest is coming to
Houston this weekend for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday water Works
at Buffalo byde Park. It is gonna be so fun.
This is actually the largest outdoor Asian food and cultural
festival in the US, finally making its way to Houston.

(02:35):
So you've got four to ten on Friday, ten to
ten on Saturday, ten to eight on Sunday. There's gonna
be Asian food everywhere, all kinds of street Asian food too.
There's gonna be panda inflatables merch. You can check out
the details Panda fests. That's plural, Panda fests.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Dout.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
That sounds fun, sounds so good. What a great Mother's
Day tree right, producer Dana.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
It was beautiful this past Saturday. It was the graduation
ceremony over at Texas Women's University's Houston campus, and one
grad did something no one will ever forget. His name
is d Kwan Minor, now a doctor of occupational therapy.
He's been living Dana in a wheelchair since a car
crash back in twenty thirteen that left him paralyzed from
the waist down. But at the graduation ceremony, du Kwan
stands up and walks across the stage. He was able

(03:23):
to do this using a device that sends electrical signals
through his legs to activate his muscle, something he says
he's never done publicly before and it was amazing to watch.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
He says.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
His message is simple for others in his position. He says,
the accident does not define your life, and your life
is not over. He says his mobility is still limited,
but he says he hopes to turn his pain into
purpose and now is an occupational therapist.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
He's going to be doing just that.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
So great jobs to Kwan Minor just graduated, already inspiring everybody.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
So it is I love that.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
You know.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
We were talking to our boss yesterday, Mark Sherman, and
he said, you know, Dana, you and I have been
here thirty five years. Was my thirty fifth anniversary here.
And it's so funny because I got my start in
Austin at Austin City Limits. That's where I got into
the media, and it was just so much fun. I
loved working there so much. And so if you guys

(04:13):
love Austin City Limits and their big festival, it's coming
in October and the list of performers has been released.
So among the performers, twenty one pilots, Lord's going to
be there, Charlie XCX, Kings of Leon. It's October second
through fourth, and then the ninth through the eleventh. Tickets

(04:34):
three day ticket sales went on sale yesterday. Single ticket
sales will go on at a future date. So you
can check out Austin City Limits if that's where you
want to go spend some time. It is pretty am
it is. Check it out. We always have our tell
Me Something Good stories up for you at Sunday ninety
nine dot com and on the free iHeartRadio app. You
can find us as well, and make sure you make

(04:54):
us a first preset. That way, it makes it even easier.
Feudalist Sunday ninety nine point one nine point one Houston's
best variety of the eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana
with producer Anthony, and we've got some clouds, some rains
on the way. Forty percent chance right now we're gonna
go up to eighty five. It's seventy two now in Uptown. Wow,
I guess my husband's been right all along. Hate to

(05:17):
admit it. Bob and I's constant debate is he says
the commute from Katie to Houston is the worst commute
he's ever done. I'm like, Bob, I don't know what
you're talking about. I never have a problem with that
part with that stretch, all right, Tithony. I leave at
three point thirty or four o'clock in the morning. Oh,

(05:37):
you forgot that detail. I forgot that big detail. And
Bob has been proven right because that stretch from Katie
to Houston is now the number one worst commute in Texas,
number nine in the country. Wow, they're calling it the
burnout commute. It's like an extra work day just getting

(05:57):
through the traffic there. We're asking you. And I thought
it was the Woodlands to Houston forty five because I
used to do that. I did that for that. That's
also a bad one though, too, I think. And that
was even with me getting up early. I mean, that
was a tough one. Yeah. So I just I'm I'm okay,
I'm awake now, I see what's going on. We would

(06:17):
love to hear from you if you're on that commute,
or if you've got a commute that you think is
worse because you already did the Katie to Houston moved
to another part of town and it's worse. Let us
know the worst commute commute in your opinion seven one
thirty two, one two five ninety nine one Sunday ninety
nine point one Houston's best variety of the eighties nineties.
And today it's seven twenty two. Now I'm Dana with

(06:39):
producer Anthony. We've got some clouds around. We might see
some showers.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Showers, of course are going to affect our commute. That's
what we've been focusing on. We've got a forty percent
chance of rain gonna go up to eighty five. Right now,
it's seventy two. And I was wrong. I hate to
admit it, but my husband was right. We would always debate.
He would say how horrible his commute was from Katie.
We were out in the Cely area, from Katie to Houston.

(07:04):
He said it was the worst ever. And I go, Bob,
don't you dis my eye? Ten, don't you diss Katie.
I did not like my commute from the Woodlands to Houston.
I thought that was the worst. I thought I found
my happy place. But the problem with me is I'm
not legit because I leave at three point thirty and
four in the morning. So there isn't the congestion that
you guys are probably experiencing right now? We learned in

(07:27):
our earlier in the news that that is, the Katie
to Houston commute is the number one worst commute in
Texas Nomber nine in America. So we're asking you, is
this a legit study? We've got John calling in from Katie. Oh, Jean, okay,
on your commute? Where are you right now?

Speaker 5 (07:47):
Well, I am on the expressway, the tollway from Katie
to Houston. Now it is, so are you.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Telling us you're on the Katie to Houston commute?

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Yes, ma'am.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Oh, all right, tell us about it right now? What
are you experiencing? John? We want firsthand knowledge?

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Oh no, jeez.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
Well, the extra work day's valid. I think most days
I could probably write a book. But the stop and
go all the way in, it's just it tries you crazy.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
But John, you've got your beautiful home in the suburbs
with your beautiful family. Isn't the commute worth it?

Speaker 5 (08:23):
Absolutely excellent?

Speaker 1 (08:26):
I love your Seriously, what are your coping skills?

Speaker 2 (08:28):
John?

Speaker 1 (08:29):
What do you do to remain calm?

Speaker 5 (08:31):
A lot of prayer, yes, a lot of a lot
of time with music that I love on the radio stations.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
I love Oh we love to hear that.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
Uh No, just really it's kind of a wind down
as well. It gives you a bit of time to
yourself to evaluate, you know, the workday and things you
got to do with the family. But I didn't choose it,
but I am grateful to live in Katie, So we'll
leave it at that.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Oh, John, that is the perfect answer. I'm glad you.
I'm assuming you included Sunny nine point one in your
favorite music right.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Absolutely, I wouldn't be here if I wasn't listening. You
guys are great and I've enjoyed every bit of myst
you in the morning.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Thank you, Jo, you're a sweetheart. Well, we're here to
help you out on that miserable commute, and thank you
for listening.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
Well, thank you guys so much for doing what you
do and I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Thank you. Take care mescoing me bye bye, And we've
got Latricia calling in from Pearland. Latricia, we're talking about
the worst commute in Texas Katie to Houston. Yet you're
calling in from Pearland. Do you have a different opinion?

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Absolutely, this is.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Such a hot topic.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
At my school. I used to think that Katie to
Houston was the worst commute, Yes, until I moved to Paarland.
To eighty eight is atrocious, Oh, experienced.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Driver, worse than Katie to Houston. Day Tricia. Where were
you when they came out and surveyed commuters? Right?

Speaker 3 (09:52):
I was not in that number game.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Oh my gosh, so tell us about are you sitting
in it right now?

Speaker 3 (09:57):
I just made it to school because I have to
wait until a little later. I actually transferred campuses to
avoid to eighty eight.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Oh my gosh, wowld I did?

Speaker 3 (10:09):
I would take to eighty eight to iten for spring branch.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Isd Yeah, I moved over to Hobby. Wow, believable. How
the community effects are liable? I believe no. Well do
you have a better, better mental state right now? After
making the move.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
On, I would set in traffic for about an hour
and a half daily.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Now I take twenty minutes? What change my life? I'm
seeing a downside to that. Just think you used to
spend an hour and a half with us, Now you
can only spend twenty minutes with us.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
I know that's why I have to do.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
