Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's Best Variety the eighties
nineties and Today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and the
three Things you need to know to get your Monday
May fifth Sink Go to Mayo Days started well. We
Houston still the number one moving destination according to Penske
Truck Rental survey. They based this on the number of
(00:23):
one way customer truck rentals. Houston's number one for the
fourth consecutive year. And the reasons people are moving to Houston.
They want to be close to loved ones, job opportunities,
the lower cost of living, and the need for more space.
All good reasons to come.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Excellent reasons.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Right now, let's talk student loans. Ah it starts today.
Student loans that are in default will be referred to collections.
Currently five point three million borrowers are in default of
their federal student loans. The loans had been put on hold,
but that's all over.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Now.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
If you are in default, you're going to be given
options from the Education Department. They're going to start the communications.
You've got to respond to them. The least it can
do is affect your credit and then there's so much
more they can garnish your wages, so you gotta make
sure you are in communication with them. And then the
Rocket's done. What a season. They lost to Golden State
(01:18):
here in Houston last night, one o three to eighty nine.
Now there might be changes in the front office. We'll
have to see what's up next for our Rockets. Also,
the twenty twenty five NBA Draft combine begins on May
eleventh and runs through the eighteenth. Your weather today, some
clouds moving in, starting out partly sunny, but we've got
(01:39):
rain and more rain tomorrow. Fifty percent chance this afternoon,
a sixty percent chance tonight, and an eighty percent chance
of rain tomorrow. Right now, it's we're going to go
up to seventy five right now, sixty three in uptown,
and you're up to date on sunny. Tell me something
good brought to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston,
well out in Alvin. Their little league baseball team, the
(02:01):
twelve and Unders, doing lots more than winning. They just
wrapped up their regular season totally undefeated, and kids have
been celebrating in a very unorthodox way, buzzing their coach's
hair to celebrate. Coach Smith said he wanted to do
something fun and memorable, and these post game haircuts, each
(02:23):
player gets a chance to do it. They chat about
the game and it's just it's kind of a different environments,
something different, and it's definitely keeping the kids moving.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
That's fun.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Congratulations to the Alvin twelve and under or an undefeated season.
That's pretty amazing. Producer Anthony Dan. This is so sweet.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
May is National Foster care Month and recently there was
a May fourth themed adoption event where some families got
a little bigger. It was over at the Harris County
Juvenile Courthouse and there was Star Wars theme music playing
characters roam in the halls. The event is all in
aid to the challenging foster care and adoption situation across Texas.
The state's Department of Family and Protective Services as there
are two hundred and forty five kids in the critical
(03:02):
care unit waiting for adoption. So whoever is out there
that's willing and able to open their homes, so they're
certainly ready and willing to accept. You and Dan, you
could say it was a success because thirty five foster
kids were officially adopted by twenty five families.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
It's amazing.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
If you're interested in adopting or just learning more about
the process, check out more at DFPS dot Texas dot gov.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
That is such goodness, and this is some good news too.
Ten year old Landin from Tomball finished his treatment for
stage four lymphoma on March thirty first. Now, the Space
City Cowboys teamed up with a wonderful organization, the Candlelighters,
giving land In such a fun opportunity. He went out
with the Space City Cowboys and did some batting practice
(03:43):
with the team. He got a personalized jersey, He rang
the cancer bell there and then he got to throw
out the ceremonial first pitch. He said, it was really cool,
a good experience. It had never done anything like it.
And if you'd like to find out more about the
Candle Lighters, they are incredible. You can check them out

(04:27):
my handbag, see all the kinds of day. You've got
quite a few things in there. I was not expecting. Well,
you know what, you just you're a mom. You've got
to I get it.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
I totally get it.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
All, he said. I was the terminator mom. I want
to make sure my kids are safe. And it all
be stemmed from our nearly impossible question this morning at
six point forty, we learned that fifty five percent of
moms carry tissues with them and I don't.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
So that made me think, well, what do I carry
with me?
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Right?
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Of all the things you did not have, those don't
have tissues.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
But we're asking you what what did your mom always
have that you could count on. We've got Donna calling
in from Sugarland pre k teacher. So what did your
mom always have with her for your kids? Donna?
Speaker 4 (05:07):
For you always had little cups for us to get
water from water fountains where we didn't have to drink
from the fountains.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Oh wow, paper cubs right, well, those little.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Das cubs, that's correct.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Yeah, Oh wow, that's so funny. I love that, Donna.
Are you a mom?
Speaker 4 (05:24):
I am?
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Okay? What do you always have that your kids are?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Like? Mom? Could I have whatever? Whatever the snack or
the necessary item is.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
It was. My son is twenty four now, but back
when he was little, I think it was always books.
He loved to anywhere we went. I could sit him
down with the books in the car and the doctor
in the buggy at the store or whatever that is
a book.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
So now that your son was obviously a very smart child,
what does he do now for a living?
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Mom? He's a videographer like in film.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Very cool. Is he here in Houston or do you
have to go visit him?
Speaker 4 (05:57):
He is, He's in Houston, so yeah, he still lives
with Actually good.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Ell, what do you guys plan? What's your planned for
you for Mother's Day on Sunday?
Speaker 4 (06:06):
I'm sure he'll take me to probably barbecue.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
That sounds amazing.
Speaker 1 (06:12):

and so glad you guys listened to Sonny.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Scott what did your mom always have when you were
a kid that you can count on her for having?
Definitely clean?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
She had the clear, definitely clean.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Did she ever take snacks in her bag for you,
like if you went to sporting events or on trips,
snacks that you remember?
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Actually there were seven kids, so she didn't slay the
house too much.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Oh wow, God, where are you in the lineup?
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (06:50):
My gosh. So you probably had to do a lot
of babysitting, right.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
And a lot of yard work.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Oh man, I believe.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
So.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Now what do you do now is a living with
the under your belt? Actually? I take care of the
grounds at Waller. Look at that worked out right.
Speaker 1 (07:07):

doing yard works. Yeah, oh Scott, that's incredible. Well do
you guys have any any plans for Mother's Day? Uh?
