Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and Today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
the three Things you need to Know to get your Tuesday,
April twenty eighth started well. Job optimism is at its
lowest level since the nineteen eighties. There's a survey from
Kinder at Rice University finding more residents are feeling squeezed.
(00:22):
Twenty percent of our Houston population say that they're worse
off than a year ago. Twenty five percent of residents
in Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery County named the economy
as their top concern, and confidence in job opportunities has
dropped significantly according to this study. Yeah, this isn't good.
(00:43):
Gators are nesting, so be aware. There's a couple out
in a freeport near the golf club. They were just
hanging out, Carol Janki and her husband when an alligator
came out of the pond and started to charge them. WHOA,
WHOA never saw that kind of aggression before. She's reminding
us never feed the gators and their behavior around this
time of year could be erratic. And so this smoke
(01:04):
and hayze that we've been experiencing.
Speaker 2 (01:05):

fall harvest to make the crops.

UMY sergeant from Houston was awarded the Soldiers Medal this
past Friday at a ceremony over in Germany after diving
into a swollen river to rescue an unconscious woman who
was drifting face down in the current. It was Sergeant
Daniel T. Beltran, assigned to the eight hundred and ninth
Multi Roll Bridge Company, and Daniel and fellow soldiers had
(02:46):
stepped in to the water's edge. They were measuring the
current speed before the unit began field testing some new equipment.
One soldier spots a body floating down the river. Immediately
alerts Daniel. He said, you thought someone was going for
a swim, realizes they weren't moving, so he told this
got permission to jump in the water. Dane is like,
fifty sixty degrees, there's a swift current. He pulls this
woman roughly twenty to thirty feet back to the shore.
(03:08):
They reached the bank where we held the woman's head
to manage her airway. They start doing compressions. The woman
finally coughs up water and begins breathing before medics arrived. Incredible, congratsing,
great job to Sergeant Daniel T. Beltran receiving the soldiers medal,
and officials say the recognition speaks to our army's core values.
