Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
the Three Things You Need to Know to get your Thursday,
January thirtieth started just a tragic occurrence yesterday in Washington,
d C. Possibly doing a training mission, the Army Blackhawk
helicopter collides with a passenger jet American Airlines Jet sixty

(00:25):
passengers on board, four crew members. The American Airlines CEO,
Robert Islam, gave a press conference last night in Fort
Worth before heading to Washington.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
American Eagle Flight fifty three forty two, operated by PSA Airlines,
a CRJ seven hundred aircraft traveling from Wichita, Kansas to
Washington Reagan National Airport, has been involved in an accident
near Washington, d C. It appears to have collided with
a military aircraft on approach. I'd like to express our
deep sorrow about these events. This is a difficult day
for all of us at American Airlines, and our efforts

(00:55):
now are focused entirely on the needs of our passengers,
crew members, partners, first responders, along with their families and
loved ones.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
We're learning now that the US Figure Skating the organization
is saying that there were some figure skaters and coaches
on board. They had just completed a competition, and if
you believe you might have a loved one that was
on that flight, it is confirmed there are no survivors,
but they have set up a number, the flight number
fifty three forty two, and that eight hundred number, eight

(01:24):
hundred sixty seventy nine eight eight two one five. That's
six seven nine eight two one five. Well, today could
be a weather alert day, at least a weather aware day,
because we've got some strong thunderstorms on the way and
we could have damaging wind gusts. We could have the
potential for tornadoes. We're going to go up to seventy two,

(01:47):
very humid now. It's sixty eight now in Uptown. Tomorrow
this weekend looks to be sunny, in the seventies. Just
let's go yep on Sunday ninety nine point one, tell
me something good brought to us by our friends at
Goodwill Houston. Did you know? Sudden cardiac arrest is the
leading killer of student athletes, but testing can catch abnormalities

(02:09):
early if done in time. The Cody Stevens Foundation is
helping in a big, positive, life saving way with student
athletes all over Houston. Cody had an undiagnosed heart condition
and he died. So Dad started the Cody Stevens Foundation,
partnering with school districts all around providing heart screenings and

(02:29):
ekg's and that's where Jacob's life was saved. His mom, Karen,
said she had no idea he had a heart abnormality.
He took the quick five minute test at Seven Lakes
High School in Katie. They found an anomaly. He had
to have open heart surgery. He had it. He's good.
He is going to be returning to sports soon. This Saturday,

(02:50):
National Heart Screening Day testing in sugar Land at City
Hall between ten and two. You can go to the website.
It's go Big or go home to red gbogh dot
as dot me for eleven to twenty four year olds.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Producer Anthony dan I had no idea this HIV Jim
had such deep origin. So many of us on a
busy weeknight have rolled into HIV went to their sushi
stand to grab a roller two.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
It's their sushia stand, but it's es.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
It actually has roots in Tokyo Gardens, Houston's very first
Japanese restaurant in sushi bar. Tokyo Gardens was huge back
in the day, became a staple here in the h
They closed back in ninety eight, but the owners kept
doing stuff on the side. Eventually met with HIB Reps
back in two thousand and one, and by the next
year they began supplying fresh sushi to their first CHIV
location out in Friendswood. As you can imagine, the demand exploded.

(03:39):
Today the og Tokyo Gardens team now supplies around three
hundred AHBs with Sushia products. It's really cool, so feel
good when you're picking up any of those pre made
rolls or potstickers from the Sushia stands at HIB you're
actually buying from longtime Houstonians wanting to bring some good
sushi here to the h.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
I did that yesterday at lunchtime. Yeah, it was quite fulfilling.
I love this so much. And Netflix Season two premiere
happened at River Oaks Theater. The Mo is a semi
autobiographical show that is all about a leafs mo and
it's really a cute show. Lots of celebrities showed up
at the red carpet. Of course, Moe was there. Bun B,

(04:17):
Jeff Bagwell, Dave Chappelle also showed up. Bunby was a
season as a priest, and he's all about helping upcoming talent,
helping them navigate and keep them out of trouble. Moe
credits his mom for his relentless energy. She helped him
by matching up the money he made at his stand
up comedy gigs. Even so though she wasn't a big

(04:38):
fan of it. Oh, she told him failure is not
an option. She wasn't a fan of his dream to
be a stand up comedian, but now she says she
is so proud Mo doing good and listen. We always
have our tell Me Something Good stories up at Sunday
ninety nine dot com. You can also follow us on
x and TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. At Sunday Night, Sunday

(05:01):
ninety nine point one, I'm seven twenty, I'm Dana with
producer Anthony and we've got Houston's best variety of the eighties,
nineties and today, and we're talking about that one food
that is going to help you eat healthy, well at
least for a month. The first month of been year.
I mean, I don't know if you're to do it
that whole year. Now we have got Kim calling in
from Katie. Now you're a nurse and by the way,

(05:22):
the food that was the answer for a nearly impossible
question to help you eat healthier, get rid of the
breadth carbon. So Katie, now do you tea or Kim?
Do you teach your patients about healthy eating? And do
you practice what you preach?

Speaker 4 (05:38):
I actually do. I'm very good.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Really, So tell us, well, like, what would a day
in the life of Kim be like when it comes
to nutrition and the foods that you eat?

Speaker 5 (05:47):
I definitely like try to eat whole foods, shop on
the perimeter of the store, natural as much as possible,
everything in moderation.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Though, you know, it's okay to have a cookie every
now and then.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Well I was going to ask you that. Yeah, you
can't be perfect. So what would be the cookie of
your choice? Oh? Chocolate chip?

Speaker 5 (06:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Do you have a place to go? I'm I'm I
go to Tiny's. Uh that chocolate chip place? If they
botch tiny box woods? Uh? Do you make your own?
Do you have your favorite chocolate chip place?

Speaker 5 (06:17):
No, I'm pretty open.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
I'll eat any of them.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Okay, Now, Kim, I want to ask you, so, what
would be like your the main healthy meal that's a
go to for a busy woman like you.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
Definitely just easy. I do like easy fish or chicken
at night, like a good vegetable, and then keep it all,
make it ahead and then you can put it all together.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Yes, do you ever have a full cheat day?

Speaker 5 (06:43):
Not a full cheat day, but I definitely, like I
believe everything in moderation. If you really want to cookie,
go eat the cookie and then get back.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
On it all right. Yes, thank you, it's so practical.
I love it. Jim, thank you. I know you and
you're a good example for your patients, that's for sure.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Well, thank you you guys.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Have a great day to you as well.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Soon let's head over to Cyperson speak with Maryella.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
You work at a sports clinic. Do you have to
tell your patients you know about eat eating healthy and
do you follow your own advice?

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Yes, we have to tell our patients that eating healthy
is one of the most important things for you to
do with your life. As far as following it, you
know a lot of us do love coffee and bread
and sugar. Some kind of hard to implement that for ose.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Out, I figured, So what have you done? I don't
know if you made a new Year's resolution to eat healthier?
But what do you to try? What one food do
you try not to eat to be as healthy as
you can?

Speaker 4 (07:46):
Honestly, I would say like Peter bread or.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Some Futina bread. The bread. The bread is the worst,
but it's just so good. Do you ever allow yourself
a cheat day? Mariolla?

Speaker 4 (07:57):
You know, when I'm actually working out and staying active,
I don't cheat or if anything, that's when I allow
myself for one cheese, Yeah I have right now, I've
try to balance it out with you know, not too
much fast food and bread. It's a big factor for everyone.
I don't have a weakness for bread, but I know
a lot of people do.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Yeah, all of us here in the studio. All right,
So what what do you have a weakness for?

Speaker 4 (08:24):
It would have to be the ice coffee, the sugar, oh,
all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Yeah. I was waiting for someone to say ice cream,
but ice coffee with sugar is another second.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Yeah, Well, marry Ella, thank you so much for sharing.
And how many do you allow yourself? Like? Do you
just do it? Maybe? A couple of times a week,
or do you have just one a day?

Speaker 4 (08:44):
I allow myself to a day whether it's hot, but
sometimes during the working long hours, I want to drink
about four.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
And then you're working out like crazy getting your fitness
on right.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Yes, but how do you guys? Do you guys three
coffee all day?

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yes, do not all day? I stopped drinking, Anthony, and
I tried that one afternoon. We had it at three
we were at some event. Made me so sick to
my stuff. Can't do it. Coffee ends at like nine o'clock.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
For example, when you've got time for you to clock
in and start your day, like at three am. Four am.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
For me, it's two am. I have my first cup
of coffee. Wow, I know, but just little cups, Anthony,
I literally until nine o'clock. Yeah, and then we're done.
And it's really it served us well. We gave you
a little glimpse of our life. Thank you for sharing
a little bit of your life. You appreciate you listening.
