Ghosts Yeah, Dane wanted to shout out all the participants
yesterday at the Big Chevron Houston Marathon. Wanted to give
a specific shout out to one in particular, Garrett Parrish.
He took on the Big Chevron Houston Marathon for the
first time, A big deal enough on its own, but
even more so when you learn he has quadripaligia. When
he was eighteen, he broke his C four vertebrae in
a snow day accident. It was a severe spinal cord
(02:48):
injury left in paralyzed from the shoulders down. He started
his rehabilitation journey over at Tier Memorial Herman. Back then
he could barely hold himself up for ten seconds day,
but he persevered. Now lives independently works at the same
hospital where he was once treated. He says the reason
he wanted to participate is to test himself. He wanted
to be able to show people that if you push yourself,
like you say, Dane, you can do great things and
(03:09):
achieve something that most able potty people would do let
alone with people with physical disabilities. Great job, Garrett Pire
is showing us all it's possible when we push.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
The run started at seven. My husband and I drove
by the run area around one. People were still finishing up,
determined to.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Get to that. I love it. That's what motivates me.
I know.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Oh, I also want to mention that yesterday, I mean,
the Texans are just trying to make tonight so much fun.
They actually had a car stenciled drive through at NRG
Stadium the green lot. There were the Texans themed spray
chalk designs on windows. You could do that yourself maybe,
I mean, I don't know if you missed it. Yesterday
they were given out rally towels and pom poms.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Again.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
The Texans are going to be playing tonight. There is

It's is phenomenal, kind of back to his retro seventy style.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Yeah, which I like that. And yeah, we were talking.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
About the Rodeo lineup, and I remember when Bruno came
and performed. It was one of my most favorite concert.
You know, they were just wearing flannel shirts. Had he
had his pink blazer on, but the guys had their
flannel shirt.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, it was so much.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yeah, that's you can consistently hear that being a top performer.
Speaker 1 (04:54):

Twenty twenty six, the year that we are not going
to do these ten things anymore included on the list.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
And I just love this mindless scrolling.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Or what did you say, scrolling dune, scrolling, resentment, get
rid of it, stroll.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Having to control everything why let it go, let it go? Please?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Technology a monetize in with all of that, phone goes off. Yeah,
see quite a set not now right anything fake trending,
trending stuff, trending style that the influencers are telling you
got to do this, you got no do what you
want to do. I love this fear of missing out.
(05:54):
Forget about that. We don't care anymore. Six and celebrity
news something that we just you know, for me, Anthony,
I look at their like twenty five thousand square foot homes,
oh gosh, you know, and it's like a couple with
two kids, and I go, why why.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
I can't even handle two bedrooms?
Speaker 4 (06:15):
I thank you.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I was just telling that to Jess the other day.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
I'm like, I'm so grateful for my little life and
we can barely keep up with that.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Something who wants to handle us staff to do all
the cleaning and stuff.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
That's like a whole career. It'd be like wing like
a whole sections of the house. You wouldn't even you know,
like I haven't been over there, and what a month
or two, like come on, you, you.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Know, keeping up with the Joneses.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
And then Anthony, you were saying the things that we're
going to go towards things.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
You said, the granny hobby.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
That's what I think they were calling them, but just
the simpler thing they there's something so therapeutic about that though,
like just gardening using your hands and just that kind
that simple kind of task that you're you're focused on.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
It's I've got We were in Montana and it's just
for me. I When I was in college, I went
to Upstate New York a school there, and I knit.
I would knit an Icelandic remember me tell me that. Yeah,
a week for my clients got paid a lot of money.
They'd go to the wolf Store, we'd pick out their
colors and I would make them an Icelandic sweater. We'd
start on Monday, it would be in their hands that
(07:18):
following Sunday. And so I started teaching the kids how
cool over this holiday? And I was like, you have
to do one hundred rows, then we'll go out and
find something a little treat for you. One hundred rows
and they did ninety four. That they got close though,
you know. Yeah, still, though, what about you for twenty
twenty school granny hobbies? Maybe something you'd like to do
(07:40):
more with your hands, maybe reading getting rid of the technology.
We would love to hear what you're hoping to do
to improve your life and make yourself a little happier,
more joy filled. Bob and I took dance lessons. It
was the best talk about that. Out of your comfort zone. Yeah,
got good on seven one Sunday ninety nine point one
(08:02):
Houston's best variety of the eighties nineties. And today beautiful
sunrise for your chilly Monday. It's going to go up
to sixty though, real sunny. Right now it's chili. It's
forty one in Uptown, and we're talking about the things
we don't want in twenty twenty six, mindless scrolling, resentment, control, technology,
(08:22):
trending stuff like style. We just want to be us.
We don't want fake fomo celebrity news. And we have
got Cheryl calling in from League City. Next. Cheryl, you
are a pastor that is so cool, Like, what would
be some of the things that you're trying to share
and teach your congregation in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Well, my message is love God, love neighbors, and our
hearts are to be more filled with compassion for others.
For one of the things that we are consistently doing
is focusing on building relationships with people in person and
(09:02):
letting one another know that we matter.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
That's excellent.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Okay, Now I have to ask you this because for
people who are used to technology, how do you build
relationships with people in person?
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Off? What advice do you give?
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Well, we actually focus on doing groups like lunch punch
and going out to lunch together, as well as building
different fellowship opportunities like movie nights, game nights, things like that,
in order to be relating to one another in person.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
I don't know if you heard me earlier.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
I got my husband to go to this community center
and we took dance lessons that were like five dollars.
We thought maybe five people would show up. Forty people
showed up and.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
It was so fun.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
That sounds like a great time, and what a great price.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Exactly fives, you know, and you could leave her more
if you wanted. But that's all she was asking for,
Just a lady who loves to share her dance passion
with the community. And I thought that's a great way
to get to know people. Because we didn't know what
we were doing, so everyone was just laughing the whole time.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
I love it. I love it. I am so glad
you called in.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
It's so nice to talk to you, and we're so
glad that you listened to Sonny and continue to keep
up the good work and helping people get to relate
to people and not technology, because I think there's a
little lot more joy in that.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
I agree, and thank you so much for taking time
to talk with me. I have never gotten through before,
so this is exciting.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Well, a great way to kick off on Monday.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Me too. You all take care and many blessing grounds.
