Neuroscience: Quest to Understand the Mechanics of Innovation, Prodigies, Reality Perception, and More

January 15, 201771 min
According to scientists, neuroscience is in its infancy; perhaps comparable to our understanding of physics at the time of Galileo. We still clearly have a long way to go to fully comprehend physics, but the foundations of the human brain have just started to be understood.    Study of the human brain could lead to many fascinating discoveries and capabilities. For example, could we learn by downloading specific programming to a human brain? Early experiments with mice have shown that we can program a mouse's brain to understand a simple maze. Does this mean humans will eventually be able to learn to fly a plane (as seen in the Matrix movies) or perform advanced mathematics with this method? Scientists at Stanford have arguable gone further by developing techniques to take over a mouse’s brain to control their actions (see here). Obvious ethical concerns crop up when you entertain the idea that our future may include the ability to control a human’s behavior and actions externally.
