Scott Snyder may be a household name these days for Batman fans, but this was not always the case. It was only 5 years ago, in 2011, that he began his run on DETECTIVE COMICS, which earned him quite the reputation. His writing for DC has continued into the New 52, and you can still read his writing on BATMAN AND ROBIN ETERNAL. In this episode of the ComicsVerse podcast, we focus on Scott Snyder’s beginnings with Batman. From BLACK MIRROR, his first collected Batman trade paperback, to COURT OF OWLS and CITY OF OWLS, the first two volumes of the New 52 BATMAN, we analyze and explore common themes throughout Scott Snyder’s writings. BLACK MIRROR, interestingly, occurs while Dick Grayson is taking Bruce’s place as Batman, and Scott Snyder came in swinging. With writing that fits the darkness of Batman’s Gotham City and an all-new villain, BLACK MIRROR is a strong freshman effort for Snyder.
