Speaker 1 (00:00):
I've been a part of sharing the story of NBC's
The Voice since twenty sixteen, but they've been scattered across
all the digital platforms. Now all of those conversations are
in one location. Aro dot net, a r r oe
dot net. Look for that voice Jazz. I love your name,
and I got to tell you. The reason why is
because everything in my life is about jazz. My dog's

(00:22):
name is Jazzy my birds there. I call him my
Jazz because what is bird music when you have a
collection of them outside in a forest. It's jazz. That's
the way you can explain it. And I love it.
And then here you are Jazz. Mackenzie on on on
NBC's The Voice. I'm going it's happening, man, Jazz is
taking over.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Listen. Is dantin right?

Speaker 1 (00:43):
It has to be then? And then how lucky are
you to team up with Michael bou Blay, who totally
understands the concept of where music is.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Growing, you know, Michael Bublay. Of course it goes back
to me listening to him. Michael, he was like the soundtrack.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
To my days. My morning's going to high school.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
I was listening to Michael Bublaze so so now fast
forward and be under his leadership. It's an honor for
one and you know, just to be able to soak
in all of the wisdom and the things that he's
learned and he's experienced.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
It's beautiful. It's beautiful. It's awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Are you learning the art of basically just being a
normal person? Because even when I spend time with Michael Boublay,
it was like, yo, dude, what's up? I'm going whoa, whoa, whoa?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
And he the coolest.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yes, It's like he's like the coolest person in the world.
He's very personable.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
You know. When he saw us after the auditions, he
was like, how's the fam? You remember my family?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
You know? And that's what you can really only dream
for in a mentor and somebody that you look up to.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
When you meet people, you know, you see people.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
With all of the fame and notoriety and all the things,
and they totally.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Disregard other humans.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
And to meet him and see that the man behind
the music is just as great, it's just beautiful.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
See. That's why I don't believe that he's really from Canada,
that I think he's from Huntsville, Alabama, because he's got.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
You know, he's got a Southern twain.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
He doesn't he and his whole entire landscape of thinking
and community and stuff like that is so Southern. I mean, oh,
so then you you notice it as well? Then?

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Absolutely, Immediately as soon as he opened his mouth, like
when the words that he spoke to me after my audition,
all of the it just gave kindred like spirit.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Wow. So do you learn then that no matter what,
no matter how big that stage is and what the
light show looks like, it's that I've got to put
the people first.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Absolutely, Yeah, that's what we do it for, you know, ultimately,
and sometimes even a little bit of yourself, but that's
never the time to be selfish.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
It's always about the people.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
And I love that you said that that's the reason
why we do it because so many people that are
creative are sitting in their rooms at their offer us
and things like this and they're going, I don't know
why I'm doing this. I don't know why I have
to go home and play the guitar because you're being
called because that's exactly you're supposed to be there, because
there's somebody that needs to receive it. And if you
shut down. That person's not getting it.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
They're not gonna get what they came for. Yeah, they
didn't even know that's what they were coming for. But
they'll miss it. You'll miss it.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Please do not move. There's more with Jazz Mackenzie coming
up next NBC's The Voice. We are back with Jazz Mackenzie.
Are you going to miss the collaborations that you're getting
out there in Los Angeles? Because I mean, my god,
to have that many, that would be like a radio
station convention and a bunch of radio jocks together. Oh

(03:40):
my god. Well, what is it like with musicians?

Speaker 3 (03:44):
With the musicians and the musicians on the show are
topp tire in my book. Okay, it's like you can
throw any type of challenge or any curve ball, or
I want to do this.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Or I want to change a key. They're like, oh yeah,
we can do that in seconds. It's a second. It
into it.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Just so it's beautiful to be able to join and
partner with them on such a large scale.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
You know that the ultimate professionals.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
In my eyes, since day one, I've always believed that
you are a master of harmony. How are you getting
into that? And is it about the timing. Is it
about the pacing? Is it about the breathing? How is
it that you're able to get into that harmony and
make it work.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
It's really the feeling, you know, That's what it is.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
I go based on how I feel it, and if
I can find a little pocket to groove into, that's
where I'm going to really rest. And that's where I
thrive the most. I find my pocket and I ride
the groove.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Do you think that goes all the way back to
your days in church? Because when you're up there in
front of that congregation before the preacher man talks, you
got to get those people up on their feet with
their arms in the air.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Absolutely, I think it goes back to I don't know
if you heard what Jermaine dupri did an interview not
to long ago, and he was like music or R
and B now is missing people who came up in
church because that is the playing field for to me
greatness when it comes to singing and musicality and all
the things you learned some of everything in church. So

(05:18):
absolutely that goes back to my church roots. I couldn't
have done it without it.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
I'm blown away by you bringing that up with him.
And the reason why is because I did some research
on where is the new state of R and B?
And I said, is AI technology going to be doing that?
And it said no, because it doesn't have what comes
from the soul that it is still a computer, it
is not a human being.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
So how do we beat this monkey that's on our shoulder?

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Rights?

Speaker 1 (05:46):
You know?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
I saw not too long ago, I saw that an
R and B artist, the AI She did an interview
with I think Yale King or somebody, and Gail King
just looked at her and said, but you can't sing
and she had no.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Words after that, you know.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
So it just goes to show you that people are
They just have access and they have way more resources.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
But people like myself and other artists that I know of,
we we can bring it back.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
We have to really stay true to who we are
because there's still a place for us because people are
longing for it. People really want that, especially now that
we're seeing all of the artificial that's what people want.
So we have to really be the change that we
want to see and keep pushing and to show that
all things are possible. In other like minded people who
don't have the resource, maybe they can see us and
know that they've just got to keep on putting the.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Work in and you get good results.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
So that means though that you've got to grow beyond Huntsville.
You can't be a regional girl. It's time for you
to get into other states to.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Talk about it.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Okay, let's talk about it. Let's go there. Yeah, because
I mean you you know, or do you take over
the southeast first? Or where do you go? Are we
going to put our planting you up there in Seattle
and grow you from that direction? I mean, I mean,
you've got to be thinking like this.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
I really am looking at because I'm still single. I
don't have any children. All I have is a job
and a dream, right, so I'm looking at North Carolina.
That was my first option. Why I don't know, but
it's like all things lead back to North Carolina, even
if it's just a simple encounter in the grocery store,

(07:18):
like how you were saying with Jazz, It's North Carolina
is everywhere, So I'm open to North Carolina. Texas is
my second option, anywhere between Austin and Dallas, and I
was also looking at Atlanta, but that would be my
very last resort. And I think that's just really me
trying to cling on to the South because I like this.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
I love this too.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
I absolutely love the.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
South and you have to understand jazz that here and Charlotte,
we now have live music in our grocery stores. What, Yes,
we do, Yes, we do, And because I think it's
because they finally understand that people love live music and
why not get it where you least expect it.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Absolutely, live music is healing the land. We gotta have it,
and why not have it at the grocery store? That's
actually golden?

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Wow? Where can people go to find out more about
you jazz, and especially when it comes if you're coming
to the Carolinas and you need to have somebody from
the Carolina's to give you the real authentic tour of
the back roads.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Yes, well, you can find me on Instagram, which is
my favorite platform, at It's its just just jazz, jazz
music music. You can find me at TikTok at It's
just Jazz Music. You can find me on Facebook as
just Jazz Mackenzy.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
You gotta keep coming back to this show because even
if you drop a new single, let's talk about it.
Let's get the word out there. Play the game. Dude.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Hey, you know where to find me now, Friend, I
do call me.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Will you be brilliant today? Okay, Jazz, thank you.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
It was a pleasure talking to you.
