Speaker 1 (00:27):
Come in.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Oh, come right in, mister Adam.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
How are you this morning, mister Parker?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Fine, I'm just fine. I don't have to guess what
you're here about doing.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Oh I don't suppose you do. Well, mister Parker. All
you have to do to renew the fire insurance on
your building.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Is just sign this form here.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yeah, Stradham's all I have to do is sign that
form if I were going to renew the policies.

Speaker 5 (00:49):
Oh now, come, mister Parker, you're not going to switch
to another company.

Speaker 6 (00:54):
I know I'm not.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Switching to another company. I've just decided not to carry
any more fire insurance on my building.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Oh now, I know you're kidding.

Speaker 5 (01:02):
That building of yours is much too valuable not to
be heavily insured and the machinery in it, mister Parker,
you'd lose a fortune if anything ever happened to that.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
I've had that building machinery coverage for three years and
nothing has happened to it so far, or perhaps not.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
But a fire could break out at any time today, tomorrow,
next week. Just think what a tragedy that would be.
Your policy lapses at noon today.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
You can't be serious about not renewing.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
I am serious, mister Adams. I'm sorry, but that's my decision, all.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
Right, mister Parker, it's your decision and it's your building.
But if it burns down anytime after twelve o'clock noon today,
it's also your loss. Now'll meet Dick Calmer as Boston Blackie,
enemy to those who make him an enemy, friend to
those who have no friend.

Speaker 7 (02:00):
This is a lovely view from your window. But I've
stared at it so long it's staring back. How soon
can we go out and eat?

Speaker 4 (02:07):
In just a little while, Mary, I have to finish
this letter, the shorty hmm u long letter to the
short one that makes happen.

Speaker 8 (02:15):
Kind of hurry up with you.

Speaker 6 (02:16):
I'll stare at the view.

Speaker 9 (02:17):
Some Why go see who that is? Will you married?

Speaker 7 (02:20):
You're sure probably somebody from a lovely view to complain
about me staring at it.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
It might be someone from down the streets who thought
you were a lovely view.

Speaker 7 (02:28):
Well, you say the nicest thing to me when you're
so busy you don't know what you're saying.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Ah, yes, this parson, Blackie's a partner.

Speaker 10 (02:36):
It is. And that's Blackie right over there.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
And oh yes, I didn't see him.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
There have been people who couldn't see me, some who wouldn't,
but you're the first fellow who didn't. Oh, hello, we've met,
haven't we missed?

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yes, my name is Gardner, Blackie, Robert Gardner. I met
you at that party as your friend Charlie Kingston's penthouse
last month.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Oh, yes, that's right. You and a fellow named Jim
Parkers are in business together.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah, that's right. We own a large factory building on
eleven Street.

Speaker 9 (03:01):
Of course.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Oh, this is miss Wesley Well Gardner. Is there something
I can do for you?

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Yes, Blackie. I wouldn't ask you this if I went desperately.
It's a little embarrassing, but I am. I guess everybody
in town knows. I'm broke, Blackie. I've got to have
twenty five thousand dollars, and I've got to have it first,
twenty five thouars.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
You came to me for twenty five thousand dollars. Well
that's a.

Speaker 9 (03:28):
Little out of my class, Gardner.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
If a thousand will be any good, no.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
No, black you know a thousand won't be a bit
of good. It has to be twenty five thousand at least.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Well, I'm afraid I can't swing that. You say everyone
in town knows you're broke.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Why.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
I understand that you and your partner, Parker pretty well off.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Parkery is, but I'm not really the Only thing I
have is my half ownership of that building and the
machinery on eleven Street is worth a lot of money, Blacky.
But right now what I need.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Is cash mortgage.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
I've already done that, Blackie. My wife is the reason
I have no money and the reason I need money now.
She's demanding things I can't afford to give her, and
and I've got to buy the fr she leave me.
I can't let that happen.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
No, I suppose not tell you what I'll do. You've
met Charlie Kingston. Yes, why don't you ask him for
the money? Use your interest in your firm and security.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
You think mister Kingston would lend me the money.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
He might try, can't do any harm. It might be
a good investment for Charlie. I'll call him and tell
him he will be up.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Oh, thanks, Mickie, I'll see him first thing in the morning.
Thanks a lot, do thank me.

Speaker 9 (04:30):
I haven't done anything.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yes, yes you have. You give me a hope of
getting that twenty five thousand dollars, and you don't know
how much I needed. I I do almost anything to
get it. Well, goodbye, Blackie, and good buy miss Wesley.
It's nice to met you. Goodbye, goodbye him. Lots of luck,
Miss Wesley. I don't need that. I need money.

Speaker 7 (04:47):
Ooh that man is desperate Blackie.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Yes, Mary, and there are twenty five thousand reasons.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
Why what, Robert?

Speaker 3 (05:06):
What did you say?

Speaker 10 (05:07):
I said you could have that new coat you wanted, Harrian.

Speaker 8 (05:09):
Oh now, Robert, please don't make such stupid statement. Where
would you get the money?

Speaker 10 (05:14):
I'm gonna get a I saw Boston Blackie.

Speaker 8 (05:17):
A little while ago, and he's going to give it
to you.

Speaker 10 (05:19):
Well, never mind about that.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
The money is as good as in my pocket right now.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
The money for the cold and un a whole lot more.

Speaker 8 (05:26):
Oh, why, darling House, sweet of you. I'll go down
and pick out the coat this very afternoon. Now you're
sure you're not joking about having the money this.

Speaker 10 (05:35):
Time tomorrow, sweetheart, I'll be rich.

Speaker 11 (05:37):
See you for dinner, you know you will. Now, goodbye,
Darling Bye, Harry. It guess who that was and what
he wanted?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Jim, I don't have to guess, Darling. I know because
your ever loving husband he was bribing you to stay
with him. What a lovely one handed conversation.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
It was too one handed, Jim, I don't understand.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
You were holding the telephone receiver with one hand and
the other was busy holding my hand.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
You're my husband's partner, aren't you.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
That's my part in the partnership.

Speaker 9 (06:13):
You love me, don't you?

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Uh huh enough to be missus Jim Parker. One of
these days could be.

Speaker 8 (06:21):
I haven't quite decided to leave Robert yet, especially.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Now, Harriet. You will leave in one of these days
and come to me. I have more money right now
than your dear husband has ever seen.

Speaker 8 (06:31):
I know your money's one of the reasons. I oh, oh,
that may be Robert. He may have been funny from
across the street. You'd better get out of here, all right.

Speaker 6 (06:38):
I'll be back way.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Quickly, all right, all right? Oh but listen, Harrian, if
I give you a reason to leave Robert, will you
do and.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Stop worrying about it, Jim, and get out of here
right why? Darling?

Speaker 6 (06:48):
Goodbye?

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Coming coming?

Speaker 4 (06:54):
Oh, this is Robert Gardney. Yes, I'm Boston Blackie.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Oh my, how thrilling.

Speaker 9 (07:02):
It might be that, Missus Gardner.

Speaker 12 (07:04):
Hackman, hmm, I should say, ah, maybe you should, but
not like that. You're here to see my husband now,
missus Gardener, I'm here to see you. Your husband came
to me this morning trying to borrow twenty five thousand dollars.

Speaker 8 (07:23):
Fine, I could use twenty five thousand dollars.

Speaker 13 (07:26):
It should buy a lot of things.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Don't you think I can tell you right now what
it's going to buy, Missus Gardner.

Speaker 8 (07:32):
Trouble and a few furs and jeweled Perhaps having them
might be worth a little.

Speaker 9 (07:38):
Trouble, Missus Gardner.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
I know it's no business of mine to come here
like this, but my friend Mary Wesley suggest you.

Speaker 8 (07:44):
Never mind what your friend Mary suggested.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Blackie, let me make a little suggestion. Let me run
my own life.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
I'd let you run your life, missus Gardner, except that
I'm sure you'll ruin your husband's.

Speaker 6 (08:15):
Get away.

Speaker 14 (08:16):
Get away from that south wall man.

Speaker 15 (08:18):
The claims have weakened, those curriders and the water are
about to come down.

Speaker 13 (08:23):
But out there does.

Speaker 6 (08:30):
Oh that it was close?

Speaker 1 (08:32):
All the men out of the building.

Speaker 6 (08:33):
Okay, okay, Number five and.

Speaker 14 (08:36):
Six trucks turn your hose on the side of the
building with a wall bow.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
We don't want that fire. That's right to the next building.
See how's everything?

Speaker 16 (08:44):
Oh, h, Inspector Paraday.

Speaker 14 (08:46):
Well, we've been fighting a fire since eight forty five.
But we'll have it out no time. It's under control.
Now you've got.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Work to do on this one, Inspector.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Yeah fine, Oh.

Speaker 14 (08:55):
This fire didn't start by itself, Paraday was set Listen.

Speaker 6 (08:59):
That's what they call it.

Speaker 13 (09:00):
And I think it's slightly illegal.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Hey, what's this?

Speaker 6 (09:04):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (09:04):
You in the car?

Speaker 6 (09:05):
Keep moving?

Speaker 1 (09:06):
I'm parking here?

Speaker 15 (09:07):
Can I pod owner of this building?

Speaker 13 (09:08):
Ah?

Speaker 16 (09:09):
That's different. Understand your partners aren't somewhere.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
What happened? How did god?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Can?

Speaker 15 (09:13):
Can't you say anything?

Speaker 1 (09:14):
It easy? Fella, take it easy? What's your name? God?
Near Robert?

Speaker 10 (09:18):
God?

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Hell a they get in touch with youm or Jim.

Speaker 14 (09:22):
This is a terrible or you don't know how terrible?

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Hey, who's this guy?

Speaker 6 (09:25):
Pawky?

Speaker 15 (09:25):
Jim park my partner, he's the other half owner of
this building.

Speaker 16 (09:29):
Well, from here, it looks like are you guys owners
a pile of ashes?

Speaker 15 (09:32):
It's not bad as it seems. Inspected the building and
everything and is insured.

Speaker 14 (09:36):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
That's good.

Speaker 14 (09:36):
No, that's bad. It was insured Robert like a fool.

Speaker 15 (09:40):
Like the policy lapse at noon today, and.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
So you've full this time, will you?

Speaker 6 (09:56):
Harriet?

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Why aren't you home?

Speaker 6 (10:03):
Excuse me, tire.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Oh sorry, I frightened you, sir, but this note was
left for you at seven o'clock this evening. I thought
it might be important.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
I didn't mean to disturb you, what with the fire lord.
Thanks Martin, and he worked for Missus Gardner this evening. No, sir,
that's strange. Have called her at her home several times
to night and got no answer. Well, I'll try her
again in a few minutes. Yes, sir, who brought the note?

Speaker 9 (10:27):
Martin?

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Er a messenger, sir?

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Oh M, wonder what it is?

Speaker 13 (10:34):
Hm?

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Why the smell of it? It's from a young lady,
an attractive young lady. Yes, sir, let's see if it's
an attractive message too, Hm. I was right about the
lady being attractive, Martin. It's from missus Gardner, well splendid.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Perhaps it explains why you aren't able to reach her tonight.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
And I hope so. Yes, it says I've decided to
leave him at once. We'll meet you at your office
at eight thirty.

Speaker 14 (10:59):
Tight, Oh, mister Parker, say you're so pale.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
What's the matter?

Speaker 13 (11:04):
What's the matter, Martin?

Speaker 2 (11:06):
It's missus Gardner.

Speaker 14 (11:07):
If she was to meet me at my office at
eight thirty, she was.

Speaker 6 (11:10):
Caught in a fire.

Speaker 13 (11:11):
She's dead, Love Gardner.

Speaker 16 (11:25):
I've had guys sitting here in my office till I
grew beards because I wouldn't talk. So you better start talking.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
What did I tell you, Inspector Parody.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
I didn't set fire to my building.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Oh you didn't.

Speaker 6 (11:35):
No, get.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Quiet, lanky quiet?

Speaker 9 (11:39):
You didn't ask me down here to be quiet?

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Do No?

Speaker 16 (11:41):
All I want you to tell me is that Gardener
came to you asking for money this morning.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
That's all.

Speaker 9 (11:45):
Yes, And I told you we did, and I.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Admit I did. But but that's all I admit. I
didn't set fire to my building. Why should I?

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Why I should you?

Speaker 13 (11:52):
I'll tell you why you needed money?

Speaker 3 (11:54):
But the building wasn't insured. I got no money from it,
I know.

Speaker 16 (11:58):
But you didn't know the building wasn't insured. You didn't
ought till after the fire.

Speaker 13 (12:02):
Do you deny that?

Speaker 6 (12:02):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (12:03):
No, I don't deny that.

Speaker 16 (12:04):
Better not, because I was right there when you heard
the news and you admit it. Then it was the
first you'd heard of it. You said you were ruined,
and you also said this would be the end of.

Speaker 13 (12:13):
You and your wife. Just what was the meaning of
that crack anyhow?

Speaker 1 (12:16):
But my wife?

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Ask my partner Jim Parker about that.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
He'll tell you what does he know about it?

Speaker 3 (12:22):
He knows my wife was ready to leave me. In fact,
I think she was going to leave me for him.
The reason I went to Blackie was because I wanted
money for her.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Oh is that so okay?

Speaker 13 (12:32):
Well, you know what you're doing, don't you.

Speaker 16 (12:34):
You're admitting you burned down your building to get money
for your.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Wife, Blackie.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Make him believe I didn't set fire to that building.

Speaker 9 (12:39):
I'd like to do that, Gardener, But I.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Bet you can't. Nobody can, because he did set fire
to that building.

Speaker 13 (12:45):
He needed money.

Speaker 16 (12:46):
He admits that he thought the building was insured. He
admits that he set fire to that building.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
Ah, he doesn't admit fact.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
No, And I'm not going to Well, i'll tell you something.
You are going to You're going to jail.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Oh No, I didn't I Blackie. Can't you help me?

Speaker 9 (13:02):
I dun'no, Gardner.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
I'll try but whoever did set that fire sent me
made it hot for you. And now back to Boston, Blackie.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
When Boston, Blackie was unable to lend Robert Gardner twenty
five thousand dollars, he knew that Gardener would do something
desperate to get the money, but he didn't think he'd
go so far as to set fire to a building
for the insurance money. What Blackie didn't know, though, was
that Jim Parker, Gardener's partner, had allowed the insurance to
lapse and had himself set fire to the building in

(13:52):
a plan to ruin Gardener and take Gardener's wife away
from him. Gardener's wife, also unaware of Parker's plan, was
to meet Parker in the building, and now Parker thinks
she died in the flames. Nothing has been said about
a body being found in the building, however, and with
Robert Gardner in jail for arson, Blackie goes to see

(14:13):
Jim Parker.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
Yes, I hadn't seen mister Parker. Please, mister James Parker.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Uh, I'm sorry, sir, he's.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Not in you expect him in soon.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (14:32):
Would you like to eat?

Speaker 4 (14:34):
I wouldn't like to, but I will very good. Your
Parker's butler.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
Obviously his new butler.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
Oh, well, you know you aren't exactly the butler type. H.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
You should say that, sir.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
That's one of mister Parker's most frequent complaints about me.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
Say do you know where mister Parker is at the moment, Yes, sir, Yuh,
he's down at the fire, at the fire.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
Well, at the building's er or what's left of it.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
But why the fire has been out, sutil since late
last night?

Speaker 5 (15:11):
I know Miss Parker didn't say why he was going
down the building.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
Perhaps he thought you might.

Speaker 9 (15:16):
Be there, he thought I'd be there.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Yes, you're his partner, mister Gardner, aren't you. H?

Speaker 4 (15:22):
Yes, yes I am, of course, uh saying maybe.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
You can help me, I'll do anything I can suh.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
Well, I've been a police headquarters ever since the fire.
My wife's probably tried to get in touch with me
and wasn't able to. I wonder if she left any
word for me here.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
I know she didn't say no word for you.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Oh she did leave some word for mister Parker or
just the the note.

Speaker 9 (15:45):
The note or what not?

Speaker 5 (15:46):
Or the note was mister Parker saying she wanted to
meet him at his office at eight thirty last night.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
Perhaps I shouldn't be never mind what you should have
shouldn't say my friend, and don't bother to tell your
master I was here to see him. I'm going down
to the fire and till I'm saw myself.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Maybe here, Maybe it has to be.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Here, not here looking for something?

Speaker 13 (16:19):
Talker, Huh, who are you?

Speaker 9 (16:22):
Who do you want? I'm Boston Blackie, and I want
to talk to you.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Uh I I don't have time to talk right now?

Speaker 4 (16:27):
Why not? You seem to have time to nose around
this pile of burned up junk.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
This is my building, is still my property.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I can do what I want here.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Well, maybe I can help you looking for anything in particular?

Speaker 9 (16:38):
No, then, what are you looking for?

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Nothing? Just just looking looking for nothing?

Speaker 9 (16:44):
Well that should take no time.

Speaker 14 (16:46):
Eh.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
Your partner, Robert Gardner is looking for something. He's looking
for his wife, And I have an idea that's bad, bad.
Why she's missing?

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Missing?

Speaker 3 (16:58):
Where is she?

Speaker 4 (16:58):
You don't make which, Sir Parker. If anyone knew where
she was, she wouldn't be missing. I think I have
an idea why she's missing.

Speaker 9 (17:07):
You do?

Speaker 4 (17:08):
Why I happen to know she planned to meet you
in your office in this building at eight thirty last night.
So so the building caught fire a little after eight
thirty when she was supposed to be in your office.
That's why you're down here. You know she was supposed
to be in your office last night. You think she
died in the fire. That's why you're here to make
sure if you can.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
I don't know anything about Missus Gardner.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
You know plenty about her, Parker. You wanted her, and
I think she was agreeable to leaving her.

Speaker 9 (17:34):
Husband for you.

Speaker 14 (17:34):
I know nothing about it.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
You know the whole story, Parker, from start to finish.
You let the insurance policy on this building lapse and
set fire to it, so you destroyed Gardner's last hope
of being able to support his wife. You knew Gardener's
wife would leave him as soon as she saw he
was flat broke. You're in a spot, Parker.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
I am why.

Speaker 9 (17:55):
I'll tell you why.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Like a lot of women, maybe Missus godd and it
was late for her eighth thirty appointment with you last night.

Speaker 6 (18:03):
She was.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
Maybe maybe she got down here just in time to
see the building go up in flames and you run
out of the place, and maybe she got the very
unpleasant thought that you were trying to murderer.

Speaker 9 (18:20):
She might not like that, Parker.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
I'd certainly hate to be in your shoes if missus
Gardner is alive.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Hello Parker speaking Hello, Yeah, Hello, who's this?

Speaker 10 (18:45):
Don't you know me? Don't you know me?

Speaker 6 (18:50):
Dolly?

Speaker 3 (18:51):
No?

Speaker 6 (18:52):
Who is this?

Speaker 10 (18:54):
Well? Maybe seeing what you tried to do to me
has changed my voice of little Dolly.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
It is this Harris.

Speaker 10 (19:01):
Oh you do remember me? Yes? Yes, this is Harriet,
Harriet Gardener, This is harrys.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
What what's the matter with your voice?

Speaker 10 (19:11):
It's my throats. It's raw from all the smoke that
got into it during that fire.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Oh, before I see Harriet.

Speaker 6 (19:19):
Are you all right?

Speaker 10 (19:20):
Oh yes, I'm all right, but you are what do
you mean? I mean? I saw what you tried to
do to me, and I'm going to get you for it.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Good night, darling, Harriet, Harriet, Listen to me, Listen to me.

Speaker 10 (19:43):
Hello, Hello, Jim Darley.

Speaker 7 (19:46):
Oh are you this morning?

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Harriet?

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Is that your oh?

Speaker 10 (19:49):
You know my voice? Right away this time? Why were
you thinking about me last Night's the matter with this squire?
That same thing that's the matter with us? The connection
is bad.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Look Harry's about what you said on the phone last night.

Speaker 10 (20:01):
What about it?

Speaker 2 (20:02):
You've got everything all wrong. You don't know what you're
talking about.

Speaker 10 (20:05):
Oh, well, I know.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
What I saw, but you don't understand. Look, i'll give
you fifty thousand dollars.

Speaker 14 (20:11):
You always wanted money, I'll give you fifty.

Speaker 10 (20:14):
I don't want to get money now all I wanted
to get you goodbye, Dog.

Speaker 6 (20:29):
I'll get it. Martin.

Speaker 10 (20:30):
Yes, Hello, Hello Jim Dolly spending a choir at the
evening at home.

Speaker 13 (20:39):
Harry is.

Speaker 10 (20:41):
Yeah, I waited till this evening to call you.

Speaker 14 (20:45):
I thought you'd be dumb, Sir Harriet, listen to me,
why cause you must be caught at driving me mad.
I'll give you a hundred thousand dollars to go.

Speaker 10 (20:52):
Away by that twice what you offered me more.

Speaker 14 (20:55):
I know you take it wow to keep quiet about
what you're knowing To leave me alone.

Speaker 10 (21:00):
Oh, I'm going to leave you alone, dog, very much alone.

Speaker 13 (21:05):
You are.

Speaker 10 (21:06):
Yes, this is my last telephone call, and yours too.
I'm going to kill you. Go what you did to me,
and I'm going to kill.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
You tonight, Harris Harriet.

Speaker 14 (21:22):
Martin, Martin Martin, get my car right, away right away.

Speaker 10 (21:27):
To you here.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
You're going out tonight, sir.

Speaker 14 (21:29):
Yes, I'm going to police headquarters.

Speaker 16 (21:40):
Now go through the whole thing slowly this time, Parker,
so the police stenographer can take it all down.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
All right, in speak the parity.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Okay, go ahead, Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
I set fire to my building. I canceled the fire.

Speaker 16 (21:52):
Insurance policized or cancel it or let it lapse, let
it lap fly.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
It was Robert Gardner's only means of income. I wanted
to destroy with.

Speaker 13 (22:00):
The building and therefore wipe him out.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Why so that his wife.

Speaker 14 (22:02):
Would leave him. I was in love with her and
wanted her, but she wouldn't leave him as long as
he could support her.

Speaker 16 (22:06):
Then you set fire to the building yourself, and Gardener
had nothing to do with it.

Speaker 14 (22:09):
Nothing, nothing at all.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
I did it all myself.

Speaker 14 (22:11):
It was my idea, and I did it all myself.
Now protect me, will you have you have your confession?
Protect me?

Speaker 1 (22:16):
Protect you Parker from what from home?

Speaker 2 (22:18):
From missus Gardner.

Speaker 14 (22:19):
She planned to meet me in the building the.

Speaker 13 (22:21):
Night of the fire.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
She saw me sit fire to it.

Speaker 14 (22:23):
She thought I planned to kill her, So she's going
to kill me.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
I don't think she'll kill your Parker. But she will,
she said to herself.

Speaker 14 (22:29):
She did when just an hour ago on the telephone.
She's sutt me three times since the fire.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
I wonder where she was calling from. She's dead. She
died in the fire. No, that can't be it.

Speaker 16 (22:40):
Not only can be, Parker, it is. She kept that
eight thirty appointment with you and was caught in your
office when the building went up in flames. We found
her body in the ruins about an hour after we
got the fire out.

Speaker 14 (22:50):
But if she's dead, who called me up today in
this evening?

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Oh, I'll show you what did you push that puss
for her?

Speaker 6 (22:57):
Relax?

Speaker 16 (22:58):
Nothing's gonna harm you, Parker, nothing but the law. Come
on in you too, Miss Presley, take over, yes, Miss
Wesley for everybody but Parker here with missus Gardiner dead,
and he.

Speaker 13 (23:12):
Wants to know who called him up and threatened him.

Speaker 6 (23:14):
Way I did.

Speaker 7 (23:16):
Don't you recognize my voice, Darling?

Speaker 2 (23:20):
It was you?

Speaker 4 (23:21):
You catch on fast, Parker?

Speaker 2 (23:23):
But why I wasn't I told that Harriet was dead.

Speaker 14 (23:26):
I've been frantly since the fire.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
Friendly.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
Not frantic enough, Parker, Not frantic enough to talk until
you've thought you yourself?

Speaker 9 (23:31):
Weren't dangerous.

Speaker 16 (23:32):
Yeah, then you talked at plenty hey, rollins, rollins, Rollin's
get this.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Guy out of here, lock him up. Okay, all right, all.

Speaker 14 (23:41):
Right, but you don't have to push.

Speaker 6 (23:45):
Well.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
I solved another one.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
They like you solved another one. Whose idea was it
that Robert Gardener was innocent?

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Okay, it was yours? But I was ready to let
him go. In fact, I'm gonna let him go.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
Now, sure after a trick of mine forced pocketing. And
whose idea was it not to reveal that we'd found
the body in the fire, so that the killer would
go crazy wondering whether or not missus Gardiner was dead?

Speaker 16 (24:09):
All right, that was your idea too, but I agreed
it would work, didn't I.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
Yes, I'll give you credit for that much. But whose
idea was it?

Speaker 7 (24:17):
Just to min at you too? Why are passing out compliments?
Don't forget me? It was my voice that fool, mister Parker.
I'd like to hear either one of you impersonate a
woman dead or alive. So how about a little bit of.

Speaker 10 (24:30):
Credit for me.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
I'll give you lots of credit, miss Wesley, Yes, fairday,
give Marry the credit. But see that you give Parker
the Works

Speaker 6 (27:55):
Yes,
