The ship passes the boy at midnight, and Martha Vale
said that it exactly the night Missus Aikin went for
a walk on deck.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Well, I, missus Aking was killed last night because she
went for a walk. We're going to solve this murder
by a walk too. This is the way I figured.

Speaker 4 (20:14):

I think Charlata Akin was killed because she couldn't sleep
last night. I have good reason to believe that this
ship of yours is being used for smuggling small but
highly priced articles into this country.
Speaker 4 (20:35):

Why we never sail, of course, more than eight miles
off shore.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
But you pass a certain boy about eight miles off
shore every night at midnight.
Speaker 4 (20:45):

Yeah. Well, here's what's been happening on your ship, Captain Randall.
When it slows down as it passes that boy, someone
on the lower deck reaches out with a hook or
something and very neatly catches a chain dangling from the
top of the boy.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
You know there's a chain on the top of that boy.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Yes, I looked at it myself. On the end of
that chain would be a package or a box or
a container of some kind. Once the smuggler has that
container aboard, he can bring it into the country.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Yes, it's true. We don't have to pass through customs.
What makes you think my ship is used for smuggling?
Speaker 1 (21:14):
You're Stewart. The one who was found dead in my
cabin was once arrested and convicted for smuggling. Missus Akin
was killed because she was on deck at midnight last
night and saw the smuggler at work.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
If she was killed at sea, why wasn't her body
tossed overboards.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
The smuggler didn't have time for that, I suppose, but
he put her body where he was sure it wouldn't
be fan.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
What do you mean the killer check of reservations.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
List for the return trips and found the state from
twenty two the empty. He hit missus Akins's body there,
hoping to get rid of it at sea the next night.
Oh yeah, And the reason the stewart was killed was
that he saw missus Akins's body being taken into the
cabin and was going to tell.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Me, Blacky, you're too smart to live.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Everybody pulls a gun on Blackie. What are you smuggling? Captain?
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Diamonds from Africa? My partners bring them from Africa as
far as the boy I bring them the rest of
the way. Just stand where you are.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
I just want to get a little closer to you,
so when you shoot, you won't miss.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
I won't miss.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Then I'll dump your body overboard.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Well when you do, when you throw this collapsible life
raft in after me, This one under your chair looks
like a big don't touch that. I won't touch the raft, Captain,
only the inflation bound. Hey you look all me silly
on the cap, but it's slugging. How are you gonna
kill me? After I get this gun out of your hand.
(22:33):
If you rup that gun, you're plugging. All right, I've
dropped it, okay, Randall get up. I have a gun
on my own. Don't shoot, don't worry. Say isn't it
funny how a little air and this life raft put
the wind out of your sails?
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Twenty one twenty two. Here's my ken again.
Speaker 1 (23:01):

full of luggage.
Speaker 4 (23:04):

Speaker 2 (23:05):
