Speaker 3 (00:29):
Bucket Evening, everyone, and welcome to more high school football
coverage of the Chillicomthy Cavaliers. Says Marty just said, Greg Big,
I'm along with Shane Combs on the road again as
the song goes for the Cavaliers on the road again
next week and then finish up with two home games
with tonight down to Highland County to face the Hillsborough
Indians and Shane Tough loss last week twenty eight twenties
(00:51):
actually was on Saturday morning, but twenty eight twenty six
came down to a couple extra point situations. But some brights.
I know the Cavs are hoping to get a win
and now they're.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Back on the road.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
And this is a Hillsboro team that's two and four,
but they've played almost everybody they've played, including Western Brown,
very close if they've lost, and then they do have
a couple of wins, and they did lose however to
Portsmouth West.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Well, yeah, to your first point. You know it has
it's been a tough road for Chili Kathee. Obviously, the
record not where you want it to be. I mean
we talked about it last week. You know, over half
the schedule really really difficult. We knew there would be
some challenges. You've had an opportunity there in the Portsmouth
West game. Obviously last week in your league opener, that
was a tough one to let get away when you
(01:36):
score as many touchdowns as your opponent and you're unable
to convert a little bit in the pat or the
two point conversion game. So go to your second point. Now, Yeah,
this Hillsboro team, very very talented. Had a chance to
take a look at him this week and study up
on them. You're gonna see a lot of eye candy
before the snip. You know, they're gonna be moving around
a lot of misdirection. They're gonna run it hard, at
(01:57):
you from about three four different ball carrier and it's
going to be really really important for Chilicofee to tackle
well and try to make sure that they limit the.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Big play and forced Hillsborough to.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Go long drives and hopefully force some mistakes, maybe even
some turnovers.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
And you know, coming into tonight, injury has been a
part of the season for the Cavaliers, and as we
said last week, they did get one of their linemen,
Cole Crawford back, but they're missing tonight. I think this
is huge. Jeff McCallister, who plays inside linebacker, one of
their key players. And with Hillsboro their running game with
(02:33):
a lot of misdirection of experienced linebacker is a real
plus and I think that'll be interesting to see how
they fill in without one of their inside linebackers against
this offense that the Indians run.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, Jet six to two hundred pounds. He's a junior.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Has had a really good year just in terms of
stabilizing the defense. I know they've had some sickness last week.
They think Beverly back tonight that'll help a little bit,
but seems like they no more get one or two back,
they lose one or two more.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
But you know that that is part of it.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
But at the same time, you know, excuse or not,
it's just that's part of the narrative and it's difficult
to lose some of those talented pieces and you just
have to have some other people step up and see
if you can't get yourself in position to win a
football game.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Offensively, the Caps that come back last week go score
four touchdowns. One of the big things from last week
they implemented some quarterback runs, kind of an option off
of the jet sweep or off the handoff to the
running back, and Hammond was able to run up the
middle three or four times, including three touchdowns. One was
a quarterback sneak, but it put in a little bit
(03:40):
of run for the quarterback that teams can't totally key
on that one running.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Back back there.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Well, you and I have agreed on this all year,
you know we When you look at Hammond at the
quarterback position, I think the young man is a really
smart kid.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
He's a tough kid.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
I think he's a little bit more athletic than he plays.
And I think the more confidence he gets, you're gonna
seal little bit more of that. As I said last week.
Is he a guy that you want running twenty twenty
five times. Certainly not this time in the career. But
I do think there's an opportunity five to ten times
a game, use your mind, use use your feet to
move the chain, to take some pressure off of the liggan,
and to keep some of those defensive ends a little
(04:19):
bit more honest there from crashing down on the run.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Game Hillsborough, Indians.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
The field, of course is a natural turf, and actually,
considering the weather we've had with all no rain forever
and then all of a sudden, all the rain for
a solid week, but the field looks in very good shape.
I heard some of the people in the press box
talking about the field at McClain High School, which the
Cavaliers will travel their next Friday, that it was not
as as good as shape, but I'm not sure, I
(04:46):
said a little more muddy. But anyway, tonight the grass
looks good. It looks nice and thick, and it looks
like a very nice plane surface for natural turf here
at hill Spurrow Cavaliers getting set tonight here at Hillsborough.
Let's take a time out. You're listening to Cavalier coverage

Back at Hills World down in Haidan County, the of
course it warmed up a little bit, but going to
be probably one of our best evenings for football tonight
as the sun goes down and cooling off.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
The pretty good football weather.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
We haven't had a whole lot of nice Friday nights,
including last Friday night. We didn't even get a play
wound up playing on Saturday morning. But good weather tonight
and probably our best weather wise Friday night we've had
so far.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Say, yeah, you know, it seems like you go back ten
fifteen years. It started to take over earlier in the year.
Now as you get into these final walk three to
four weeks of the regular season, certainly in the playoff football,
the weather starts to play a little bit of a factor.
You mentioned the surface. This is a beautiful field, especially
when you consider the rain we've had in the last week.
(08:00):
Really neat atmosphere kind of sits down in a bowl
here and it's kind of right in the middle of town.
You can tell it's a Friday night event and they're
well supported, and yes, just a nice just a nice
atmosphere for a football Friday night. But yeah, I think
I could see where some nights the weather could be
a big, big factor We ended up seeing that in
many of our area games last Saturday, even when the
(08:22):
rain was still hanging around. But today I do not
expect that to be a factor, and all the entire
playbooks should be open to both teams.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeah, no wind and nice evening, good crowd on hand
on the Hillsboro side, Cavaliers and not bringing a whole
lot of fans over to Highland County and maybe fifty
fans on the other side, and maybe a few more
will come in here as we were just about six
minutes away from our opening kickoff tonight here at Hillsboro.
Week number two of the FAC and last week we
(08:54):
just talked about a lot of those games on Saturday,
including Hillsborough's travel up to Miami Trace that was a
while game and then Mima Chase was able to pull
away at the end and score forty some points. And
I know you had some stats down there, but Hillsboro
has scored a lot of points all year long, and
they well they have twenty seven last week and had
them all pretty early in the game against the Panthers.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Yeah, they, like I said, they're in our first segment.
You know you're gonna get about four or five different
people carry the ball and they're going to do a
lot of misdirection. They can really create some big plays
in the run game. They do not throw it around
a lot, but when they do, and I would say
this is because of the run game, seems like they
have some success throwing it for the big play.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
And so forth.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Now, I have had some people tell me that they
play several kids both ways and they feel like that
has started to weigh on them a little bit in
the third and fourth quarter, and that's happened a couple
of times to them. How Western Brown game you reference.
I believe Western Brown won that game by three on
the very last play of the game last week. That
was a very competitive game for the first three quarters,
(09:52):
and the Miami trace kind of ended up breaking it open.
So yeah, that's something to take a look at tonight.
If the Cavs are able to get all to a
good start, you know, I'd like to see the Calves
come out and have kind of that Portsmouth West start
where they had come out and kind of established the
ground game and moved the ball with a mix of
pass and run and they were able to play out
in front. I think that's so important in any sport,
(10:13):
you know, be a.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Baseball, basketball, volla.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
But whatever it is, the ability to get off to
the good start just plays a little bit confidence, especially
when you haven't had the results you've wanted to this
point in the year.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
They're speaking of that with the Cavaliers. It's not rocket science.
It's not like Shane and I are genius football coaches,
but we've kind of beaten a dead horse. But it
is what it is, and it comes down to the
Cavaliers the type of team they are, they can't afford
and it's they've had a lot of problems this year.
They can't afford get behind the chain, the procedure penalties,
(10:44):
the penalties that makes it first and fifteen or second
and twenty. It's tough for them to do. First of all,
what happens a lot of times is teams have really
blitzed in him and hadn't had a lot of time,
especially when they know they're in a passing situation. And
of course, the other thing in any football game, it's turnovers,
and hopefully the Cavs you make Hillsboro go the full
length of the field. But those are any high school football.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Game on a Friday night.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
But penalties behind the chain have been a little more
of a problem for the Caves have been tough for
them this year on those.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Oh, I think so.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
I think those are the ones that eat actually as
a coach, I think, at the end of the day,
as coaches, if your guys out there working hard, and
sometimes the guy across for them is bigger, faster, stronger,
and maybe you get a hold or maybe you get
those types of penalties because you're playing hard or whatever,
you know, you can kind of learn from that. I
think the ones that they have to be able to
eliminate are the priest and that penalties some of the
(11:35):
different things that you have complete control over, no matter
how good your opponent may be on that particular Friday night.
And if Chili Coathy can do that, they have proven
that they can run it a little bit, they have
proven that they can utilize some short passing game, and
they can move the ball.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
But again, those are so.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
So important that they give themselves a chance to be
successful by not getting in their own one, no.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Doubt about it. A couple of minutes away from kickoff,
let's take a final time. I'm out back with them.

Back at Hillsboro set for opening kick, the calves will
be receiving to start the game as they send back
Henson and Hitchins to receive the kick. Of course, Scott
barthoronom Mule, the head coach, you're Chillicathy Cavaliers owen six
(14:34):
so far this season and just oh and one in
the FAC. This being week two of conference flight, Hillsboro
comes in two four oh and one, losing to Miami
Trade probably one of the top two teams in the
FAC along with Jackson. Calves on the road next week
after coming over to Hillsborough, they'll turn around and come
back to Greenfielle McLean next Friday night. That's actually maybe
(14:58):
the shortest trip that the Calves have this year. We've
been to Portsmouth, We've been almost the Cincinnati, Wilmington.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Yeah, the FAC's put together a nice conference. I've heard
people say they wouldn't mind expanding one or two more
teams maybe, but they really have put together a nice
conference in terms of geography and so forth.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Wesley Bailey, the kicker.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
For Bailey, will kick it off here we go, game
is underway. A long end over end kick and that's
going to be taking it to one yard line. Well,
Kaves will bring it out out to the ten Hitchens
a little bit of excuse me that sensing breaks a
tackle actually gets out to around the twenty five. I
thought he was in trouble and a nice gut and Henson,
who took that right on the goal line, gets out
(15:40):
to around the twenty five to twenty six, and that's
where the cavesles start.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Yeah, he really did. I think you called that really well.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Ryan Burns had a nice angle on him there and
he's able to make him miss and then kind of
can stay in true to his return right and kind
of going up to Chilicothie sideline, gets out to the
twenty five.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Not a bad place start here for the Caves.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
First in ten, Calves will go with an open set.
Only Andrew Hammond the only player behind the center back
in the pistol formation. Everybody else spread out. Now they
put a man in motion and they will fake it.
They'll give it to the ligand out to the thirty
breaks the tackle to the thirty two.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Nice run. It's a good fake.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
I thought Andrew took it back, was going to look
to throw, but he gave it on a jet sweep
to Carte Ligan and he picks up six yards maybe
seven up to the thirty two, call it second and three.
Calves will go with a hurry up offense. They get
lined up quickly now looked at the sidelines.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Yeah, becoming a popular play a lot of people. The
big debate in football today statistically, are you going to
call that a pass or are you gonna call it
a run? You know, you kind of toss it out
there in front and a nice nice game on first.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Down, it's like a blitz coming him and looking gonna
run with it, and he's.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Takes a pretty good hit actually able to fall forward
with his six to three frame.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Think if you're going to march in my mark about
a half now by yard short.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Arking up at the thirty four, he went with the
open set, ran with a quarterback draw and there wasn't
a lot of running room. Actually, Hammon was lucky to
get back and get another yard. So now big third
and one they do go with a running back to
the right hip of him and Miller touches his helmet
and now jumping off sides. Hillsborld, that's Roman Hardy who
(17:24):
jumps off sides and now to give the Calves a
important first down to start the game.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Good hard count are third and short. Why not get
you kind of a freebie here, get out to the
thirty nine and first down, the chance for Chilicoffi to
put together a nice drive.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
No, Thisholl starts the clock ready to go. They go
back to an empty set. Put a man in motion,
I'll give it to him, and a jet sweep to
the right picks up a couple of yards.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Fighting for yard. He's not a whole lot there.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
That was a pitch sweep the other way that time
to Victor Hitchens and he gets maybe a or two.
Mark it out to the forty two yard line. Call
it second and second and shorty same type of play.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Just go in the other direction there again a pretty
positive gain on first down.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Legging to the left in a slot. One miller way
out to the left him and back by himself says
in the tight end, they send ligoan in motion to
the right, fake it to him, look to throw. Hammon's
going to take off running up the middle. Got a
first down across midfield. That was getting on into him
pre game here, telling him that he wasn't asking about him.
(18:35):
Some of the illsboral people, and they had saw one
miller last year and they give well his hamm and
I said, well, no, he's not as quick as one.
But you know what, You've said this many times. He's
a big, tall, lanky kid, but he moves faster than
you think.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
But did you sew decisive that one? So again it's
his football IQ when he's decisive. He looked his first
rate a second, retucked.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
It and went across the midfield strive first down, Kavali
looking to throw, looking looking still look, Oh he's got
sysm white open up the middle. Didn't see him and
now sacked in the backfield. Yeah, they used They used leg.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
And how to hear in the flat, a little bit
of a decoy in the bit and then you're right,
it was slow developing. The sism did come wide, opening
the scene, but by that point A Burns and Company
had pushed up the middle and the rush was able
to flush him out and the sack for.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
The big loss.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
Big gloss there all the way back to the Cavalier
forty four yard line, and it's going to be second down,
and let's call it second and eighteen. Quick snap running
up the middle, ligging not a whole lot there. The
first time they've really ran inside the tackles. They've been
running a lot of the jet sweeps, and now it's
going to bring up third and long. Yeah, it wasn't
(19:46):
a penalty, but a sack and sism was wide open
down the middle, but Andrew just didn't have time and
he was rolling to his left. Once he took off
to his left, I don't think there was any way
he could have thrown back across his body down the middle.
Speaker 8 (20:00):
Man.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
It's not to throw it away as well. He was
trying at the end to throw it away, but took
the loss. Third and seventeen, got a yard on it,
carried by the leg in man in motion legging back
to pass across the middle. Miller catches it, drops it
catches it.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Great effort to stay with it, and now you kind
of get yourself in a position on four down. If
you choose to, you could roll the dice and go
for it. If you wanted to kick it deep and
pin them, you could. But what a great effort.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Just to stay with it on the concentration. Well, a
lot of people there.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
Two red jerseys and one miller hit one that hit
a red jersey and one got it back. They're going
to go for it. It looks like on fourth and five
inside the forty five tried to draw him off sides.
Almosice did. Now looking to the sidelines, I would think
they might punk, maybe just try to draw them off sides.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Now they're going to go for it.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
On fourth and five, Hammon throws it across the middle
toes an interception. This is going to be a pick six,
easy touchdown. Hillsborol threw it into the flat colin Swackhammer.
I believe it was Swackhammer with the interception and returns
it about sixty yards.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
For the touchdown.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
I think there was a three receivers on the right.
Hammon was expecting one to curl inside. He threw it
to a spot where he thought it was going to curl.
There was no receiver. All three receivers went deeper or
to the sidelines, and the only person standing in the
vicinity was swack Camer. He threw it rank to him
and swack Camer returns it sixty yards for a touchdown.
(21:38):
Man great start for the Cavaliers and then bingo, they're
down six to nothing and.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Hillsboro going to go for two. It looks like.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Swackhammer just to sophomore enters the night leading Hillsboro and
tackles at seventy two. That's how I'm doing it with
the interception and then with his feet to get hills
on the board. And I think I'm assuming that was
an equipment maybe.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
A mouthpiece issue that forced Hillsboro to sub. Now I
think they are going to kick it.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Snap is good, ball is down and kick is up.
Plenty of distance and it is good. Seven forty four
to play. In the first quarter, Hillsboro strikes first on
a pick six back. With more coverage of Cavalier football
after this time out.

Greg Bagam Shane Combs back with you. Caps had a
nice drive, couple of big plays a on fourth and
five outside the Hillsboro forty and twenty twenty high. I
thought they might pun maybe try to force Hillsboro down deep,
make them go to the length of the field, tried
to draw him off side, went ahead and ran the play.
And Shane, I know, is that what it looked to
(23:23):
me like him was thrown to a spot where he
thought his receiver was going to curl and but that's
they won't there.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Looked like a little bit of a combination route like
you said two or three and then just maybe not
on the same page and that thrown it right to
him and and unfortunately with the other why.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
On the ground to kick picked up at the twenty
one out to the thirty thirty five on the carry,
fighting for yardage across the forty. Nice job Andrew Brown
on the return, caught it on the bounce, refused to
go down and gets down across the forty yard line. Yeah,
really impressed with Brown last week on special teams. He
made a great play on a punt coverage and then
a good blocker plays really hard that time. You could
(24:02):
see a little bit of the physicality and finishing the
runout over the forty.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
See if the Cavs can answer here.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
Started at their own twenty five. Last time moved it
into Hillsboro territory. A big sack put them behind the chains.
They wound up going forward on fourth down and throwing
the interception. But they'll start just at their own forty two.
Pretty good field position, as we said, seven point thirty
four on the clock in the first quarter. Still, now
they do have a receiver in the back or a
(24:29):
running back back there hitchins in motion, give it on
the hand off up the middle, running room legging, cuts
back over the middle and picks up about.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Nine Just an outstanding move. At the point of attack.
A linebacker comes in on the run blitz, he just
side steps him and then goes for ten yards. Yeah,
well maybe nine and a half.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Going to mark him short, yeah, Carte very seldom as
the first man get him. You know, he's not a
huge of course, he's only a freshman, but he's able
to kind of spin and move and gain extra yards.
Are gonna give it to him and get he got
a first down. Spins up the middle and picks up
about six or seven more so they get ligging up
the middle a couple of times and they got a
(25:10):
first down. Hopefully they can come right back and get
something on the board after someone to pick six.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
Yeah, Coach just talked a lot about the return of
Cole Crawford and what that meant to the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Good sign there on those last two runs.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
The point of attack, pretty good hole there for Liggan
inside the forty five of Hillsborough's say around a forty
three new set of downs for the caves. They want
to throw it, go to the outside that was dead
from the beginning. It was a quick screen to Carte
Liggan and there was Liggan and four red jerseys around him.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
When he caught the ball. He had no chance. Oh
I don't.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
I'm gonna lose a couple of yards and make it
second and twelve.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
And chill coythe tries to move Carte around in the
formation that time there in the slot, like you said,
just gonna kick it quick, quick throw out to him
and well read by Hillsborough.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
And go back to the empty set.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
Put a man in motion, licoln fitch it to him
up the middle of the running room. Closed in quickly
by Hillsborough. But he gets the two lost guards he
lost plus about three more Carte give him about five.
Good week last on Saturday and I'm trying to remember
back about one hundred and fifty sixty yards rushing. I
think Shane for Carte last Saturday.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Yeah, he's been he's been terrific from about week three
is when he ended up taking off down our western brown.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
He's been really special just about every week.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Poor receivers to the left, and there's an off sides
again on Hillsboro. That's the third hard count, two of
them resulting in Hillsborough penalty. You know, on the interception play,
he almost got the same kid to jump on the
end and just just barely landing Jordan who jumped off sides.
That helps brings up third and now third and short
(26:56):
four inside the Hillsboro forty down around the thirty six
thirty seven yard line, four wide receivers, three receivers, and
says them to the right, single receiver, one Miller to
the left, Hammon running up the middle, and not much
there falls forward, gonna be bring up a fourth down.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Yeah, they're walking in just about a yard short. With
it being there on the thirty five, certainly gonna go
for it.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Bitchen's out to the left, one Miller to the left.
That's a tough spot.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
I thought he had about another half yard, maybe even
another yard.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Lincoln on the left hip of Andrew Hammond. Fourth in
a long one almost fourth and two, looks to the
sidelines called a snap count. See if they try to
draw them off sides. They've done that twice the Hills
real so far, fourth and short, Hammon Leggan jumps over
the line that gets the first down, still motoring down
to the twenty five yard line, about seven yards. He
(27:57):
leaped over a big pile with a line of scrimmage
lencol and we saw him him jump over a defensive
back that wasn't on the ground earlier this season, and
that time he leaped over the line, picks up about
seven yards.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Yeah, very athletic.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
That play you're referring to down there in Wilmington was
was as athletic a thing I've seen all year. But yeah,
that was a that was a special run there, and
and a really important one on fourth down to keep
the drive.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Alive down to the twenty five. Caps get another first down,
trailing seven and nothing here in the first quarter. Those
werels not running offensive play, didn't have the pick six
him and looks to the right and still looks, still
looks and now he's going to be sacked in the backfield.
Didn't really have anybody open and sacked for the loss,
(28:41):
and that puts them behind the chains. Again, it's just
too slow developing.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
What they wanted to do there was run sissm out
into the flat and bring I believe it was a
Hentson underneath on a little slant and it once it developed,
it was there. But again the problem is it's taking
too long to develop, and the and the pressure got
home and got him to the ground.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
We've seen a lot of blitzers and hamm and go
down quickly, especially down at Wilmington, but that none necessarily
wasn't the blitz. It just took too long to develop.
In the sack quick out to Ligan drops the ball.
Maybe a good thing because one of the Hillsboro had
that well defended. And again Carte on a quick bubble
screen didn't how to have any room and had a
(29:21):
lot of red jerseys around him. He dropped it so
it'll bring up third and long.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
And had ran the ball.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Ligan was running the ball well off the middle calves
and went back to the passing game. And how I'll
find themselves third.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
And long two. Daln just need to get a little
bit of it here.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
And in motion is Ligan and Hammond back to fast
looking rolls to his left, still looking those to the sideline,
has Sism at the twenty five, gets by the first
man and by close to the second man, Big Daniel
Sism tough to bring down and he gets inside the
twenty down around the seventeen and Shane mentioned they got
(30:00):
a good bit of it back and it's going to
bring up fourth down, but much much closer.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Yeah, pick up right around fourteen or fifteen yards. And
I like how Hammon kind of extended the play with
a little bit movement to his left and throws a
strike and then sysm physical finish there to get within
fourth and two.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Big play here, fourth down and two for the Cavs.
No running back back with Hammon. See if they send
Ligoann in motion now he looked to the sidelines. Lit's
girl for me in front. Three linebackers, two receivers to
the right, two to the left. System split out a
little bit on his tight end spot Ligan in motion
(30:40):
fake runs ham and nothing there. Well that was that
went well last week. But Hillsborough watched the film and
every time Hammon's tried to run up the middle. He's
been stuffed and again twenty twenty. Hind sight is what
it is. But I don't know Shane fourth and two.
I gotta see Ligan care the ball there. Maybe he's
(31:01):
random ball well. And I know that play worked well
last week.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
But hillsborol.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Every time the Cabs have been in an empty set
hand in the oily back, they've been watching for the
quarterback draw and they'll turn it over on down.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Yeah, about a half step slow there when he went
in motion there, kind of because the rhythm of the
play was off, just to beat the fake. Didn't really
carry any any weight to help them first.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Down right side carry nothing, not much there line of scrimmage.
I think it's the nineteen. I was standing there on
the pursuit there. That was true at McLoone. Just shoots
the gap and meet team right at the line of scrimmage.
Mason Dumper at your quarterback. First offensive series for the
Indians drove down the field through an interception, so I
(31:47):
came and returned to sixty yards for a touchdown. Then
they drove all the way inside down to the twenty,
turn it over on downs and I'll second down in nine,
Mason Dumper at the quarterback, and now what they have
off sides of somebody was lined up nobody jumped. I
(32:14):
guess somebody was lined up in the neutra zone for
the calves far.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Side official in front of the chilicuty bench making the call.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Coach, I told him, you asked him who was responsible
for that hand off to the left side. Out of
the twenty six, maybe the twenty eight. It's gotta be
shy the first down and they need to close to
the first down, But that penalty really helped. Now third
and short or Hillsboro, Yeah, pretty good job on the
first two run plays here. As I said in the
pre game, Hillsboro is going to run a lot of
(32:47):
mistrection at you. I caught a lot of eye candy
there even before. You'll see them do some things before
the snaps sometimes, and you just got to stay real
disciplined on your assignment and then when it's your turn
to tackle, you got to get them to the ground
because they got some home run hitters. Yeah, they like
Hawkstool is their flanker. They like to run that reversed
counteraction to Hawkstool. A lot single running back two wingbacks
(33:08):
hawkstool in motion and now they're going to run the
quarterback pitch it to the outside on the option, a.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Lot of running.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Thirty five forty cuts back into fifty and now beats
another tackler thirty five thirty. That's Captain on the run
and he is going to go all the way for
a touchdown. Trey Captain on an option play, ring right
down the line with a quarterback dumper and he pitched
(33:33):
it out. Captain got around the corner. Then they dide
a nice job at midfield cutting back across the field.
Cavs got a hand on him about the forty five
and he broke that tackle and he's going to go
all the way and what was officially seventy two yards.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
Yeah, just just good ball, handling, good fake. You'll notice
how well they carry out their fakes. And you get
to the outside and then a special athlete just makes
a special run and seventy two yards later he's in
the end zone, up for the extra point.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Men at forty nine to play. First quarter, Hillsboro is
only run what three place on the whole night in
the first quarter, and they're going to lead it fourteen
to none. Well, the kick is yeah, it got over,
a little bit of a bat snap they got it over.
Kick is good A minut at forty nine first quarter
Hillsborough fourteen, chilaicathe nothing back with more Calves coverage after
(34:23):
this time out thirty.
Speaker 6 (34:31):

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Weball the third kickoff here in the first quarter for
the Indians. They kicked off to start the game. If
you join his slate, Calves drove down around the forty
and then through an interception intercepted by Swack Cammer, returned
at sixty yards for a touchdown. Calves drove all the
way down to the twenty yard line. A big sack
put them behind the chains. They went forward on fourth
(35:29):
and two, Hammon got stuffed on the run and they
turned it over and very quickly, and now they stepped
in the end Zone'm not sure why the Calves are
trying to return the ball out of the end zone,
but that time they stepped in the end zone'll come
out to the twenty.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
But it didn't take very long and an option play.
Nice pitch by.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Dumfort, the quarterback, and you could see on that when
when he pitched it to Captain there was no containment
on the outside and then Captain did a nice job
of gradually cutting back across the field against the green
and big time run.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Yeah, really was I would say, going back to your
original question on the kickoff, my guess is just you know,
some of the athletes they have back there, maybe just
trying to get some athletes in space. They trust them
to at least get it out to the twenty, but
maybe break one, because we've seen some great drives this
year start with returns out past the forty of must midfield.
I think one Miller's gonna come on out again. Equipment,
(36:26):
I'm assume the mouthpiece.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
When that happens, they're gonna make one miller come out
of the game before they run the play. Carter Williams
will come in to replace one miller. Caps stay in
this empty set and then looking to throw first down
(36:50):
across the middle.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Got it to.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Hitchins twenty nine yard line now pulled backwards. Pretty good
pick up of about seven quick turn pattern inside complete
the victor Hitchins.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
Yeah, a nice job there, just to pitch and catch
and other than the sacks, Juli Coffie's been pretty successful
in moving the football and able to convert down the
fourth down. Obviously the pick six was a tough play
that one the other way, but they've had some success
in moving the ball here early.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Second in a short three legging in motion.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
They'll hand it to him on the jet sweep, a
little bit of running room out too close to the
third he got knockdown. Thought he hit the first down,
but I think he knockdown Shy the first down.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Man. That's another tough spot. It will be about a
yard short.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Pointing the ball almost touching the thirty. Almost a situation
where you might want to run a quarterback sneak. It's
only about a third of the yard about a foot,
and instead I think we had a movement third and
the foot. The calves chump.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Right now.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
The calves are just it's kind of been all year long,
really kind of shooting them. I mean, Hillsboro's got two
big plays, but shooting yourself in the foot. So instead
of third and a foot, now third and five and
a half.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
I guess.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Hillsburg's lined up one on one out here with Miller
little help to the inside, but that might be a
match up here.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
On third down, I'll put it in the air, looking looking,
throw it across the miller Miller and caught it for
a first down. Nice Catchwan, Miller. You need to die
the way you hated to be behind fourteen nothing and
then turn around and go three and out but able
to pick up the first down. Overcome that procedure penalty.
Speaker 4 (38:49):
Yeah, I think when they're going to go one on one,
you got to give your senior wide receiver a chance.
Very mature route, runs it past the sticks and just
sits down hamm and delivers a.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Strikeout first down. Cabs don't need to run a play.
We'll run a quarter out. But it looks like they're
lined up and ready down to ten seconds here in
the first quarter, fourteen nothing Hillsboro. They'll run the play.
Hammond looks to the outside. Now he's gonna run with
it up the middle. Takes a hit right around the
line of scrimmage, able to didn't have anybody open. That'll
(39:18):
in the first quarter. It will bring up second and
nine when we return. One quarter of action complete here
in Highland County. The Indians are on top Hillsboro. Fourteen
sheilicopy nothing back with more caps coverage in WBX after this.

Back in a second quarter, Cabs all run to play
their first play, a ten yard completion hamm into Hitchens
and they pick up a first down. They moved the
ball obviously, this is their third possession of first two possessions.
They were in Hillsboro territory. Run a little action on
a run, Lincoln's got room to the fifty, leaguing across
the fifty, got a first down, still on his feet,
(41:24):
knocks down to Hillsboro defender and gets inside the forty
five of Hillsboro. I don't see they've they've moved the
ball from their own twenty five and all the way
down inside the Hillsboro forty through the interception, moved all
the way down to the twenty yard line and gave
it up on downs and all of a sudden the
third series, they've moved it again.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
Yeah, they really have, and they've done it with a
mixture of pass and run, and you take away the
two negative plays on the sacks and then obviously turn
over and I mean, you got a different story, but
obviously every play counts, and Chili Coasley's just got to
stay with it and continue to do what's working in motion.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
Pitch it to Hitchins, got him around the corner, maybe
a couple takes a pretty good hit. He got around
the corner, but a lot of Red Jerseys filling up
very quickly there to make the stop. We'll give Victor
Hitchins on a jet sweep as he just nobody back
with him, and the flankers come in motion, and as
they come in motion, Hammon.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
Just pitches it forward to him.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
And that was licoln in there with Hitchins only about
a maybe a yard game second down, second and nine,
just under weigh in the second quarter, the Indians on top,
fourteen to nothing. Yeah, I'm going again by himself and
in motion is Ligan take it to him, look to
throw across the middle incomplete, looking for a Hitchins. Good
(42:45):
coverage by two red jerseys. It'll be third and nine. Yeah,
you know you can handle the incomplete. You can handle
the one yard runs.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
You just got to avoid the negative play, and you
know they've done that probably on the plus side of
the field. He or if you can get something positive here,
you're probably gonna end up going for it. So you
can treat this like a four down territory, assuming you
get a pretty positive gain here.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
On third down, Henson to the right, Hitchens to the right,
Miller the only receiver to the left back to pass
third to nine, looking now taking off to run in
up the middle, pick up of three or four, not
nearly enough for a first down, got inside the Hillsboro
forty him and just took off when he saw no
one open immediately. Well, it'll bring up fourth down. Cavs
(43:34):
not even considering punning here inside the forty of Hillsboro,
but they do trail fourteen to nothing.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
You can see the respect of the Red Jerseys there
on number eighteen. Just a freshman and Carte Ligan already
at the top of a scouting orport. Every place he
he's lining up, you can tell he's drawing a lot
of attention.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Fourth down in seven, legging back with Hamm and right
now Hitchens in motion and they're gonna hand it off
to Ligan and there know where to go. Still fighting for.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Yardage, still fighting for yardage, broke loose, but they're gonna
call forward motion down and the Cavs turn it over.
On downs, Gillsborough will take over leading fourteen enough.
Speaker 4 (44:21):
Well you said it. You know Chulck Coffee's able to
move the ball. I think I have him for six
first downs already this evening, and they've moved it into
plus territory each time, and I'm just unable to kind
of finish the drive off.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
Well the yard but I like legging running up the middle.
Don't mind the Hillsboro was one of their linebackers stuffed
it and Art they didn't have much of a chance.
Speaker 1 (44:51):
To get started. He was fighting for yardage.
Speaker 3 (44:53):
But gillsborod their own thirty nine starts their next drive
and they will run it to the outside with the quarterback.
Nice block all around the corner fifty into territory. Calves
won of an illegal block there. I think it might
have been Smith that got taken down on the corner.
(45:16):
Dumber on the run, Yeah, Tray captain, the one that
had the seventy two yard run the first time as
the ball care at that time, doing a job as
a blocker that was outstanding.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
Dumber just kept it.
Speaker 3 (45:33):
We gotten a line of scrubbage and again got to
the corner in big yard agenda chilicothee territory and give
it to the right side, right to the forty thirty five.
Miller will force him out of bounds that are around
the thirty. That is Jevin Hackstool. Hackstool can break the
(45:54):
big play. We saw that last year Ills World beat
the Calves at Pernstein Field. So right now, offensively, Hillsboro
really and you mentioned it. They've got so many weapons.
They've got three or four good running backs. Well, quarterback
and run it. You got a full back and run it.
(46:14):
Two wing backs. Now they're back in an eye formation.
They're picking up big chunks on every run. First and ten,
second man two right side. Oh, nice tackle. Hockschool taken
down that time for a short game.
Speaker 4 (46:27):
Smith down the end, going low and making the stop.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
Nine thirty to play in the first half. Hillsboro with
two first quarter scores big plays sixty yard interception and
return pick six and a seventy yard plus run by captain.
So they have scored on two big plays. This has
been a little more methodical. They're inside the Chilicothy thirty
but now second down and ten, no gain. On that
(46:55):
play they run Captain in motion, pitch it to him,
loses the football and he gets it back. None of
the calves saw it. Great opportunity. That's what we talked about,
how the ball handling of Hillsboro has been really good
on some of the early plays, some of the fakes
and so forth. That time they put it on the ground.
Speaker 4 (47:12):
Golden opportunity for Chillicothee and just unable to come up
with the football a.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
Pitch to captain. He dropped it.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
It did bounce out in front of him, but about
three or four yards in front of him. No cavalier,
he didn't see it or it was in the area
and he was able to pick it up off the
ground and still gain yardage a couple So it's third
down and eight. The receiver has split to the left side.
That's Zack Brown. See if they haven't thrown up now
(47:41):
third and long.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
I'm hurt.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
Yeah, it was on a counterplay down to the twenty five,
stopped up around the twenty five. He's short of the
first down, going to bring up fourth down for the Indians.
A little bit of a counterplay that time. Good job
by the calves we gLing in on the tackle. Nice yeah,
good job.
Speaker 4 (48:03):
Good job up front trace McAllister fighting off some blocks
to allow mcgloan to run freely to the ball and
uh fourth down opportunity to get the ball back.
Speaker 3 (48:13):
Here, Nate saysm of the undercism is in their middle
defensive middle guard on the line along with mcgloone and Smith. Oh,
it's fourth down, let's call it fourth and five. See
if the Calfs can get a stop here. All signals
back to pass looking looking, throws it over the middle
and intercept it by Carte Legan. Now he's going to
bring it out of the end zone, get out to
(48:34):
the five yard line, and now he's going to be
pulled down over there.
Speaker 4 (48:41):
Well, and this could really help the calves fill position wise.
Look like a late fly could come in and uh,
because it was going to be down water around what
would you say, the four or five yard line. Now,
if this does go against Hillsboro's go bring it out
about fifteen.
Speaker 3 (48:54):
Ligan was in front of the receiver by about a yard,
but he used his leaping ability to jump up and
grab it, kind of went back to the goal.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
Brought it out.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
Yeah, it's gonna be a penalty I think on the tackle. Yeah,
it is against Hillsborough, so the interception will count. Cavs
get a much needed stop there.
Speaker 4 (49:17):
Nice shout by the Chilikote defense because I mean, you
look in just eight runs Hillsborough over over one hundred
yards al right Now, obviously the one was seventy two
yard touchdown run. But I thought on that possession and
you were calling it quite well, they're great that. I
thought they did a pretty good job in the run
defense there as the ball got into Chillicothie territory, and
then you come up with the fourth down stop with
(49:37):
the interception. Offense comes back on the field goes seven
twenty seven. If nothing else, just be able to possess
the ball here a little bit and see if you
flip the field.
Speaker 3 (49:48):
So the tackle was made, it to five fifteen yard
dead ball foul in Hillsborough, brings it out to the
twenty where it'll be first and ten him. Someone wants
to throw fakes now, he wants to throw deep for
a Miller and just over the a little stop and
go pattern for one incomplete. Good coverage, Yeah, excellent coverage,
(50:08):
pretty well thrown ball, considering he had some pressure in
his face, wasn't able to really step into it, but
the ball was pretty accurate.
Speaker 4 (50:15):
That's a route we've seen Miller win. But that time,
like you said, the coverage was up to the task
and falls incomplete.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
You know, Hammond put it where only a Miller had
a chance. He only had about a half a step on.
Captain over there, second and tent quick snap pitched to
the right side. Leggan twenty five breaks a tackle back
out to the thirty back thirty five, still fighting four
red jerseys finally bring him down after he picks up
about twenty three yards for Carte Leggan, he's.
Speaker 4 (50:43):
Just such a such a patient runner and then he's
obviously explosive, but he has great vision. It's just there's
so many tools about his game. I really need to
be watching. And that's a big time run there. Jill
Coffee on the move once again, twenty four yards out
to the forty four yard line. Leggan on a quick
pitch to the right, cut it inside, got about twelve
(51:03):
and then drug tacklers for the other twelve. Now Hammond
wants to run and that play is going nowhere tonight.
The quarterback draw has been stuffed, stuffed and stuffed, so
Damas may have to go away from that.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
Those games, maybe a loss of one. And that was
a big play last week and we talked about it
giving another little bit of the offense to not be
able to hone in on Liggan or your running backs.
But not there tonight for Hammon on the quarterback draw,
second and eleven six and a half minutes pitch left,
they're going to run to the left with leg and
tries to break outside and he's going to be pulled down.
(51:43):
Swack camera got a hand on him to see where
they give him forward progress. He was fighting what he
always does, carts to be fighting for yardage, and he's
going to lose on the play original line screenage forty four.
Speaker 1 (52:00):
Hammon lost one back to the forty three.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
Now they lose four more now third and the fifteen
back in their own territory, inside their own forty for
the Cavaliers trailing fourteen to nothing, five fifty to play
in the first half. Three receivers right, two to the left,
nobody back with Hammon in the pistol. Now he sends
a ligan in motion now back to pass, looking looking pressure,
(52:25):
looking those to the sidelines and overthrow sism didn't really
have any might have been able to run with it,
but I don't think he would have gotten to fifteen.
Speaker 4 (52:34):
Yeah, it's been a couple of times a night where
it's been hard to tell if it's been the design
run that you've been talking about up the middle, or
if he's just been you know, first read, second readgo.
In that time with the third and long situation, I
think he tried to move the pocket a little bit
and find his tied end. Just nothing there. Pretty good
coverage all the way around.
Speaker 3 (52:51):
Three receivers downfield, but all of them had a defend
her within a yard of them. Hamming threw it, tried
to get it to Sism, but overthrew him. Now fourth
and long end, the Calves will have their first punt
of the night. Good snap, taking their time, and now
a low line drive punt will come down, hit, bounce
down to thirty again, a good role as normal for
(53:12):
the Cavaliers and there they're punter.
Speaker 4 (53:17):
Yeah, Harris does a nice job. He uses good directional punts,
gets it away from some of these talented return men
and gets the ball on the ground, gets it rolling
in the Calves favor we talked about. You know, only
you only possessed it there for two minutes, but you
certainly flip the field position nearly was seventy five eighty yards,
so not a bad situation for the Calves to see
(53:38):
if the defense can come up with a hold here,
maybe get it back before the high.
Speaker 3 (53:43):
Down to the twenty five yard line. That was all
about a thirty five yard punt over return. As Shane mentioned, No,
we are set to go Hill's birl back with the
football leading fourteen to nothing. Calves hoping to keep it
within two scores. It's been too big and that's the
two scores for Hillsborough. Now a quick handoff up the middle.
(54:04):
Nice job by the Cabs front three. Saysem was helping
stuff up that run. Burns was the ball carrier. Only
a couple out of the twenty seven second down and
eight as the clock moves up on five minutes left
in the first half here at Hillsborough.
Speaker 4 (54:25):
One, two, three, four or five six runs have been
for one or two yards. It's just a couple of
those big run plays. That's been the difference.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
Round split, left man in motion and now rolling to
the left. Dumper.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
Now he pitches late. This is what went for the touchdown.
Captain tries to get a block and gets up to
the forty from the twenty five or twenty seven out
to the forty thirteen yard game and that's been That
play went for seventy two and a touchdown where Dumper
just comes down the line on an option play and
then pitches in it to Captain after the thirty nine
(55:01):
but it is a first down for Hillsboro.
Speaker 4 (55:03):
O'clock will restart. I didn't think the pursuit was bad.
They stretched to play out a little bit. But just
like you said, good ball handling from the quarterback. And
then Captain's really explosive.
Speaker 3 (55:14):
And again we talked about Jet mccalis. Now Brown's done
a good job in there, but McCallister are not playing
tonight right one of the inside linebackers really hurts the
Cabs on those kind of runs, particularly.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
Quick handoff.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
No Dumper keeps it, breaks up the middle, breaks the
tackle across the forty five maybe forty six. I'll bring
out pickup of seven or eight. Mason Dumper carried himself,
so give him eight second down in two four minutes
(55:49):
to play first down. Calves really kind of need to stop.
You don't want to fall behind by three scores here
at halftime and now a late late player in for
the Indians stops to talk to his quarterback. Now back
to two wingbacks and a single running back in Dumpert
under center for the Indians. Bake's hands to the quarterback,
(56:11):
Burns fifty running room forty five the Cavaliers.
Speaker 1 (56:14):
Forty four.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
Straight off rank guard right tackle for the first down
into Cavalier territory.
Speaker 4 (56:24):
Hillsbro out across midfield. Now they've run it twelve times.
They're coming up on one hundred and fifty yards rushing
as a team, and that was certainly the concern coming
in is just you think back to the London game,
You think back to the second half of the Portsmouth
West game. Just the offensive line of Hillsborough being able
to wear on Chilicothe over.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
The course of four quarters.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
Hawkstool the wing back to the left, Captain to the right,
and they give it to Hawkstool, jitterbugs around in the middle,
falls forward for a couple Yeah, it'll bring up second
now clock moving three minutes to go in the first half.
Fourteen zero Hillsboro. All fourteen came in the first quarter,
(57:05):
and again if you joined us late, two big plays.
A sixty interception return for the Indians and then a
seventy two yard run by Captain.
Speaker 4 (57:14):
I thought the near side and the foreside official maybe
didn't agree on the spots. Hilo Cooffee might have ended
up getting a half a yard or a yard on
that spot.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
Favor back to an I formation, tumpered up under center,
pitches to the right, hawk Stool in the backfield, brought
down big defensive played by Connor Smith. Connor Smith shot
from his safety position and great tackle. Hawks Stool was
actually limping a little bit. See where they market back
at the fifty yard line and now third down and
(57:43):
it's called it third and sixteen.
Speaker 4 (57:45):
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, assignment football with the
way they carry out all the fakes that time. Anthony
Smith did a nice job going right out the quarterback,
forced the pitch and then was a Smith there that
went low and made the tackle. And third down here,
if you can come up with a reasonable will stop,
maybe force a punt and get the ball back here
before the.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
Half only past Hillsboro has thrown Tonight was intercepted in
the last series down at the goal line, Hawk Stool,
and it was motion at time legal procedurely trying to
quick getter up in the middle of Burns.
Speaker 4 (58:18):
I use the term eye candy earlier, some of that
prestat movement.
Speaker 1 (58:21):
They just got.
Speaker 3 (58:23):
Going a little quick there, and it's going to move
them back five more, moving back to their own forty
five or right er. Two minutes to play here in
the first half, and I'll start to clock Hillsborough may
go ahead and take their time.
Speaker 4 (58:42):
Well Hillsborough gets the ball coming out of the half.
If you're Chillicothe, when all things considered, if you could
get yourself to the half at fourteen nothing, yep, you'd
certainly take it. So I think this is a big
play just in terms of not giving them any excitement
about going forward on fourth down.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
Time print calls, signals, looks once the throw, looks to
the sideline, throws to the sideline, caught. Oh nice tackle.
Tackle Badger was out there. I thought it was intercepted.
Another nice play by Connor Smith. There's two big plays
on this series. Defensively for Connor if he made a
nice tackle up around the fifty, pick up five or
six yards. But we're going to bring up a punning
(59:18):
situation in the clock one o three, one oh two,
Licoln will go back to return the kick.
Speaker 4 (59:25):
Yeah, Badger came underneath the route and you're you're right,
he had he had a chance at it. And then
Canaan Smith is coming in and getting the getting low
and getting.
Speaker 1 (59:34):
Him to the ground.
Speaker 4 (59:34):
And now I think both teams are kind of okay
with the clock running a little bit, and.
Speaker 3 (59:40):
We've got no no play clock, so you have to
go by the official. Yeah, giving five seconds.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
Assuming he catches it cleanly, you certainly wouldn't be against
Licoann getting an open field opportunity to touch it. So
I'm not saying that, but you do want to make
sure that you avoid the mistakes here in this final thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
Seconds and they run it down to thirty twenty nine
point two, So they ran it all the way down
as far as they could, and then Hillsborough calls the
time out ball at midfield. You got to remember last
week Washington Courthouse around this field position. Yes, just faked
the punt and the punter just ran around the end
(01:00:21):
and ran for a touchdown. So you gotta make sure
if you're a chill CONTI in only twenty nine seconds,
you can't worry much about the return. You just got
to make sure that that Hillsboro punts the football you
just has. Shane just said, I think you'll be happy
to go in fourteen to nothing you.
Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
Lay the first quarter. Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I
think the tough call here is because of the talent
of Ligan. If it is a punt that comes out
a little bit lower and he can catch it cleanly,
you're certainly not against him using his.
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
His ability in the open field.
Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
But your number one goal has to be to stay
clean on this play and not make a mistake.
Speaker 3 (01:01:01):
Snap back and pretty good rush and a low line drive.
Pint coming down and it looks like a wedge comes down,
just pops, goes backwards, hit it the twenty bounce backwards
out to the twenty sixth, twenty seconds remained in the caves.
We'll see if they just run a play and get
out of here at halftime trailing fourteen. Enoughing, we'll keep
it right here since we're close to coming up on halftime.
Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
Get that a little bit more on the grass surface,
don't you think that a little bit like your wedge?
Speaker 3 (01:01:28):
Not my wedge, your short game. My wedge is a
low line drive when I hit it right in the
middle of the wall.
Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
You know, I hear you. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:01:37):
Actually, speaking of golf, got a chance to work three
tournaments this week.
Speaker 1 (01:01:41):
Yeah, golf, and that's the that's how standing.
Speaker 3 (01:01:47):
First of all, having a great golf program. The girls
and boys are advanced out of the district.
Speaker 4 (01:01:52):
This past week middle school won the league too, so
a lot coming.
Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
We'll give it to Ligging five six seven yards and
adds to his total.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
Still pushing and he runs hard.
Speaker 3 (01:02:03):
He sure does and will not go down easy out
across the thirty five and he picks up about nine
on the carry, and I think that's going to do
it down to one and zero.
Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
Oh quick.
Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
Pretty good first half again, it is what it is.
Two big plays, sixty yard pick six and a seventy
two yard run. That's a difference in the game. Is
just fourteen to nothing. Give the Cavs defense credit. They
trail by two. As we reach intermission, we're going to
take a time out, welcome back, Shane, and I look
at stats or a review of scoring in the first half.
Speaker 1 (01:02:37):
We'll do that after this time out.

Back At Hillsboro halftime, fourteen to nothing, Indians on top,
Cavs got the ball first, drove down the field, got
into Hillsboro territory and it looked to be a mix up.
Hammond's pass was ranked to swackhammer of Hillsbury. He caught
it at to forty and nobody in front of him
for a pick six run. After the interception of sixty
(01:04:39):
yards and seven to nothing, Hillsboro seven forty four left
first quarter. Calves come back, moved the ball down the
field again, started their own forty two, got all the
way down to the twenty yard line on fourth and two,
tried to go with the quarterback Joe Hammond was stuffed
and they turned it over on downs. Didn't take Hillsborough long.
Starting to thrown nineteen, they ran an option play the
pitch to captain, and captain turned the corner and totaled
(01:05:02):
seventy two yards minute forty nine left in the first quarter.
It was fourteen and nothing after that, seventy two yard
touchdown run by captain in the second quarter, Calves on
downs Ligan got an interception on the next Hillsborough possession
down at the goal line to stop the drive. Caves
had it again moving the football, wound up punting. Hills
Burrow wound up punting there late in the half, and
(01:05:23):
that finished out the half still fourteen to nothing. On
those two big plays that we mentioned, change.
Speaker 4 (01:05:28):
Yeah, we'll start with the home team, Hillsboro. As you said,
up fourteen nothing. They've only put the ball in the
air two times. The one pass was picked off by
the Ligan. The other one was a six yard completion,
so not much doing there, as expected, They're doing most
of the damage on the ground. They've run the ball
fourteen times for one hundred and thirty eight yards, But
keep in mind one of those was the seventy two
(01:05:49):
yard touchdown, so you know, on the other thirteen carries,
you're gaining the other sixty six yards, and even two
of those carries about half of that for about.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
Thirty thirty three thirty four, So.
Speaker 4 (01:06:00):
You know, if I count up there, I think that's
eight times they've run the football for three yards or less.
So overall, Chilicota defense finding the ball pretty well. Obviously
we're hurt by the one big big play go over
the Chilicothee side. There's two statistical rulings that you know
that are always debated in football. Number one high school
college when you talk about the sack yardage on the
(01:06:21):
quarterback on the rushing So if you consider that there
a little bit, ham And on traditional run plays has
run seven times for twenty yards. On keeping mind, he
was sacked two times for a total of twenty yards,
So you can kind of choose how you want to
read into that. The other thing that's that's always debated
is that jet motion there when they toss it out
(01:06:42):
in front. You know, if that ball falls in complete
a lot of times it's count as a pass. So
statistically I've always tried to do the same there. So
if you look at it that way, him and is
nine to fourteen, did have the interception for fifty three
yards and then but in those nine completions four different
receivers involved Wan Miller two catches for eighteen yards, Ligan
(01:07:04):
two catches for eleven yards, Kitchens four catches for up
around twenty yards, and then Sism had the fourteen yard
play down here on the near side and then on
the on the rushing side, Ligan eleven times for seventy
eight yards. So again the all purpose yard ach. He's
pushing one hundred yards already here tonight. Plus he's had
the interception there on defense.
Speaker 3 (01:07:25):
At halftime at Hillsboro, the Indians fourteen the Cavaliers zero.

Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
Good to have you with us. Good to be with you, Torod.
Speaker 9 (01:09:58):
Hey, let's talk about just in Jai general. I guess
the work did you guys do at prep Red Zone Ohio?
And I know you've got a Twitter feed and all
kinds of social media stuff, But what's sort of the
charge of your website and your socials and your operation.
Speaker 10 (01:10:14):
Yeah, so we're a scouting service, different from a recruiting service.
But basically, we go out, we watch kids play play
the game, and we scout them. We scout their film.
We do have rankings, we have profiles, much like your
twenty four to seven or your rivals, but we go
deeper in each class. Your your national publications typically are
(01:10:39):
just going to look more at your what I call
you two percenters, your kids that are going to end
up at at Ohio State, a Michigan A Power five types,
Power four now type school, and we're really focused on
getting as deep as we can, whether that be Division
two kids and possibly even some kids I might play
(01:10:59):
Di Visi three because you know, all all kids put
a lot of work in to get to the next
level and for the most part, all college football is
high level football.
Speaker 1 (01:11:11):
There'll be all.
Speaker 10 (01:11:12):
State kids that will play Division three year Division two,
So you know, we want to spend time on as
many kids as we possibly can. So that's kind of
what we try to do. Yeah, we're going to focus
on on the elite kids, but we're going to work
our way on down to and try to try to
get as many kids ranked or watch listed as possible.
Speaker 9 (01:11:34):
Prepredzone dot Com is the website and then you can
go slash Ohio or do their drop down menu if
you want to follow them on x it's at prep
red Zone, Ohio or just h actually on the end
Prep red Zone, oh Jared when you look at how
you guys do things. You really don't get to in
depth on freshmen until they have really almost a full
(01:11:56):
year under their belt. But no question, there are some
players in the class of what it would be twenty
eight we're talking about now that certainly are on the
radar already go through maybe two or three of the
players that are obviously already high level talents even as freshmen.
Speaker 10 (01:12:15):
Yeah, so we as you said, we typically don't. We
don't do any rankings on freshmen until after the freshman season,
you know it, just it gives us a better idea
of what they can do when we're seeing it against
varsity competition in most instances rather than junior high film
and that sort of thing. And so first would be
(01:12:38):
running back Elijah Harris from Cleveland Heights. He's and eighty pounds.
He actually has an early offer from Kentucky, but he
has actually received more playing time over the last few
weeks due to Marquise Davis, who we'll talk about later
(01:12:59):
getting having some injury issues. He's gotten some time just
he's a powerful runner for even at five, really good
contact balance and then has a good burst, also has
the long speed that he can he can make a
chunk play out of out of even a smaller play.
Speaker 1 (01:13:17):
So he's a kid.
Speaker 10 (01:13:19):
That that we're really going to keep our eye on,
especially as he gets older and bigger. I really expect
him to turn into a back who is really dynamic versatile.
Can can do you know, you know, break the long
speed plays, but can also just really just wear down
defenses with a side size and power. And then uh
(01:13:43):
that we have wide receiver Anthony Jamison kept Columbus. He's
a wide receiver who's got a lot of lengthd and athleticism.
He is six foot four, one hundred and seventy pounds,
So that length kind of uh you know, usually your
wide receivers, your top end athletic wide receivers as freshman sophomore,
(01:14:06):
you know, might be five five ten, five to nine,
maybe six foot. Obviously, Anthony's exceptional length stands out at
this point. He already shows the ability to get open,
deep and high point the ball, and and so his
his size and length really plays. But the athleticisms there
(01:14:28):
too to go along with that. Beyond that, we have
athlete Marquise Ray out of Westerville, North. He is as
I said, he plays plays both sides of the ball.
I've seen more of him as a running back. He
is actually the son of former Michigan safety Marcus Ray.
(01:14:48):
He's a five and seventy pound freshman. He's a slippery runners.
He's a kid who really keeps his hips flow to
the ground. He can juke and and make guys miss,
but then out in the open field, he he can
really accelerate and take the the uh play all the
way to the house. And so he's won that again.
(01:15:11):
He has also an early offer from Kentucky. But he's
one that's going to be a fun watch and really
I think maybe we'll either be able to play both
sides of the ball down the road. But really like
him as an offensive spark plug either, you know, one
who can line up out of the backfield. He be
(01:15:31):
able to motion or on spot to uh you know,
routes as a receiver. So just really an ultra talented
young man who has a really fight uh fright future
ahead of them.
Speaker 9 (01:15:44):
Jared, as you mentioned, you guys are sort of a
scouting service. So while you certainly pay attention to where
guys have committed to and where they're signing, that's not
really your area of expertise, so to speak, right.
Speaker 10 (01:15:59):
Right, So we're yes, I think you put it really well.
We while we pay attention to where guys are committed
to it stuff, we're not That's we're not crystal walling players.
We're not you know, keeping the constant feed of you know,
players ex visiting here and that sort of thing. You know,
(01:16:20):
we offers our kind of an indication a lot of
times of athleticism and ability. So while we do keep
track of that, it's not our primary focus. We're we're
really trying to focus on, you know what, what are
these players' characteristics, what do they do well? And in
some cases, you know, things areas where we feel like
(01:16:42):
they can grow and become even better.
Speaker 9 (01:16:45):
We're talking about Jared Logan Bill from Prep Red Zone, Ohio.
When you look at the crop of talent this year, Jared,
especially the top two grades, Let's say, are we seeing
a talent upgrade from last year or the year before,
or or about the same across the state? How would
you characterize that?
Speaker 10 (01:17:05):
Yeah, I think it's it's getting deeper every year, and
I really attribute that to to really year round, uh
year round training that's being done by these young men.
It really has started with quarterbacks and it seems to
really be trickling down into your other skilled positions, and
I expect that to even become more of the case
(01:17:28):
now that seven H seven on seven's come to Ohio
and players will be getting involved into you know, local, regional,
and even national teams in some cases when you know
the kid has you know has that kind of ability.
And so I think because of that lack of exposure
(01:17:49):
at the earlier ages, I think it's been more in
the past where kids wouldn't get seen until their junior
or senior seasons locally, you know, even at the D
one level, and really recruiting is very momentum based. Once
they get an offer from one school, it kind of
puts them on the radar of other schools, and so
(01:18:11):
the earlier that happens, it allows them to create a
recruiting momentum that that you know, will really build a
list for themselves to work off of. And so I
think this year that's starting to be the case with
the junior class and even the sophomore class I think
is really starting to see the benefit of that depth
(01:18:33):
of recruiting at the D one level and in the
future that's going to do nothing but but increase as
things trickle down with players playing against one another. These
players that have have offers, and you know another player
has good film against that player that has an offer.
(01:18:55):
So I think it's really over these next two or
three years. Is going to explode in Ohio.

Back in Highland County, Hillsboro High School where they Indians
lead it fourteen to nothing here at halftime, Greg Vegem
and Shane Combs with Hansey What's homecoming? By the way
tonight here at Hillsboro both bands performing here soon unusual
last week on Saturday, not having any bands there and
(01:21:41):
obviously takes away a lot from the proceedings when you
don't have that. Trying to check some scores around the area.
Fourteen and nothing our score here at intermission Hillsborough again,
if you join us late, two big plays a sixty
yard interception pick six at a seventy two yard run
by Cap didn't off an option play, and those two
(01:22:04):
scores have been it fourteen and I think Cabs have
driven the ball as we told you they're on our stats.
That gone down as far as the twenty yard line,
but gave it over on Downs a couple of times
and not able to get it into the en zone.
Scores from around the area let me check here. Halftime
piked in leads Paint Valley seven to six and no
(01:22:27):
report on aDNA, Unietto or Zane Trace and Westfall. Waverley
up fourteen to nothing over Minford, Miami Trace all over
McLean thirty seven to three, and that's listed in the
first quarter. Jackson twenty one to nothing over Washington. Big
matchup tonight in the Mid States. So far it's all
(01:22:49):
Bloom Carroll. Second quarter Bloom Carroll twenty one to nothing
over Logan, Elm high scoring game not reached halftime. Hamilton
Township thirty five, Circle Bill twenty one. Circle Bill's shown
a good offense this year, but given up a lot
of big plays in the last couple of weeks. And
they've given up thirty five in the first half. Fairfield
Union twenty one six over Liberty Union to now Winchester
(01:23:11):
over Tays Valley twenty one to ten, Logan Lancaster six
to six. Wheelersburg up twenty eight to nothing over Oak
Hill in their game. And of course, all those scores tonight,
Those and many many more coming your way on his
sister station ninety four to three WKKJ on Tonight's Scoreboard
show with Vanessa George and I don't know whether I
(01:23:35):
never know whether Jaren's working a game or if he's
in scoreboard.
Speaker 4 (01:23:41):
Now, don't quote me on this, but I believe Jaren
is out doing their game tonight. Are they Southeastern Huntington
the night? I believe, And I think Jaren's gonna get
come out, that's right. And I think I'm going to
try to help a little bit when we return home.
Sometimes when you and I are on the road, it
makes it difficult to get back here in time to help.
So I think Cody be involved there a little bit,
(01:24:01):
you know, as you're reading down those scores, trying to
remind you just the difficulty of the schedule for the
Calves this year. You know what you mentioned the Bloom
Carroll TEENI and I were really impressed with them. Obviously,
London was really good. Portsmouth West is a team that
ended up really finding themselves right around that third week,
and they've really really been playing some good football here.
Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
So I would say.
Speaker 4 (01:24:22):
When it's all said and done, just off the top
of my head, I could see what seven maybe maybe eight,
probably seven CHILICOFEE opponents playing in the week eleven.
Speaker 1 (01:24:34):
No doubt.
Speaker 3 (01:24:34):
Look, obviously Bloom London, Western Brown, Wilmington was really good.
Wilmington having a good season as well. Interesting to see
next year. And you've being an ad normally when you
a little bit of a different schedule for Chili Coffee
changing around and the first time they played Western Brown
(01:24:56):
and first time playing Bloom, uh, several of these teams
and Wilmington that normally, if you do that, it's home.
It's a two year deal, right it is.
Speaker 4 (01:25:07):
And sometimes you'll you'll you'll stretch it out the four,
but most of them like the two because in that way,
if something comes up, you get your home game.
Speaker 1 (01:25:14):
Because keep in mind the football gate and.
Speaker 4 (01:25:18):
This isn't just at a at a good program, this
is just pretty much high school sports across the board.
Your football gate really drives the athletic financial bus. So
your football gate becomes so so important to all of
your programs. So if you get those five home games,
you know you look out here tonight you mentioned it,
what an incredible crowd, good gate for for for Hillsboro
and or athletic program here on homecoming night, and and
(01:25:40):
that's a value.
Speaker 1 (01:25:40):
That's where I felt so bad last week for some
of the home teams.
Speaker 4 (01:25:44):
You mentioned it, and you were spot on that Saturday morning.
All of a sudden, you take the bands away, take
to cheerleaders in some cases away, and you just you
just end up not getting the same family and community
support that you naturally get on a Friday night.
Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
Back to this one, Shane, from our reports and all,
it's kind of obviously you're down fourteen, and I think
Caps kind of bowed their neck and picked off the
Hillsboro pass on a drive and stopped the drive after
it was fourteen nothing, then came back again and stopped,
forced on a couple tackle for losses, forced them back
to the fifty yard line, forced them to punt again.
(01:26:22):
So they've kept it, but all of a sudden, Hillsborough
is going to get it back. And I think this
is obviously a kind of a not rocket science to
figure out. You don't want to fall down by three
and you hope that defense can get another stop here
to start to act.
Speaker 1 (01:26:34):
Well, you're spot on it. It's huge.
Speaker 4 (01:26:36):
It's just you know, honestly, on about ninety percent of
the snap Chilocothie defense has been up to the challenge.
Speaker 1 (01:26:42):
It takes a lot of discipline.
Speaker 4 (01:26:43):
You got to stay true to your assignment and then,
as I said, when it comes time to tackle, you
got to get them on the ground. And I thought
the touchdown run with Chillicothie certainly lost its containment down
the edge and then well it could have been about
a twenty yard run for a lot of high school
running backs. That young man, you know, did something special
there at midfield and kind of cut it back across
and then just ran away from people turned it into
(01:27:05):
a seventy two yard touchdown. So if you're ChIL Cootie,
there's certainly things you can take confidence from that first half.
You just got to come out here and get a stoff.
And I agree with you. If chill Cothe is able
to get on the board first in the second half
and cut this thing in the one possession before Hillsboro
could in return, maybe take it to three possession, that's
(01:27:26):
going to be the momentum swing that you and I
got to look out for here in the third quarter,
Hillsborough again, we'll receive do start the second half fourteen
to nothing. Our score, Greg Vigham. Shane combs with you.
Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
Next week we come back to Highland County, over to Greenfield,
the clean Use losing big to Miami Trace tonight, Silts.
We're all trying to remember back. They had not beaten
the Calves in a long long time before beating them
last year. Had some good games. This Hillsborough program's done
(01:27:57):
a good They've gotten better and better each year, been solid.
And what I remember over the last maybe five years
is they always had that big two hundred and ten
found running back, ran a lot of the double wing
for a lot of eye candy and Shane talks about.
But all of a sudden last year and then this year,
and certainly with Captain and certainly with Hawkstool and the
(01:28:21):
Caps kick it on the ground to start the second half,
picked up at the twenty five and look out on
the return, Oh saving tackle there or the Cavaliers out
across the forty. But all of a sudden this year
they have that breakaway speed with a couple of guys
and that's added to their normal size and Hillsboro really improved, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:28:40):
Really have.
Speaker 4 (01:28:41):
And there you know you use the quick kick where
you just come down the middle when and you're right
that was attack. I believe that was Milton Beverly that
made that open field tackle or that thing got a
lot more potential.
Speaker 3 (01:28:54):
They ran up real quick and kicked it on the ground,
and sometimes you kick it on the ground, it takes
that quick and all of a sudden, that return starts
pretty quickly on the inn and a little scary for
the calves there, but they were able to get them
down at the forty one good field position for Hillsborough.
They keep it on the quarterback run forty one forty
four in down pick up a three. Mason Dumpert, you're
(01:29:19):
quarterback quarterback last year, Badger and mcgloone there on the
stop troop. Mcloone's had quite a night so far defensively,
because keep in mind with the way Chelakathe's possessed the
ball and then some of Hillsboro's big plays, Hillsborough.
Speaker 1 (01:29:34):
Hasn't run that many offensive plays.
Speaker 3 (01:29:38):
Get a pretty good spot on most of the forty five.
So I'll change it to second and four or second
and six rather than second and seven. Two receivers to
the right man in motion and they pitch it to
the man in motion around the right side, gets contained
now wants to come back the other way. Now it
goes back to the right side. That is hockstool and
he's finally brought down. There's a flag and I think
(01:29:59):
there's going to be holding or of locking. The back
part of that was hawk Steel was running right stop,
came back to the left, and sometimes that'll cause somebody to.
Speaker 1 (01:30:07):
Block in the back. You know, really, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:30:12):
Really, one of the most improved calves I think from
start to to this point in the season's been number
forty three Canaan Smith. Remember it was explained to us that,
you know, obviously a credible athlete and other sports comes
out for football early in the year. Struggled a little
bit in the past defense, learning some schemes and learning
some things. The man, this young man plays with the motor.
He had a lot to do with that play there
(01:30:34):
in terms of just the way he almost forced the
runner to cut back in. But does nice job going
low and tackling and getting the ball carry on the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
He made two that last series of the first half,
made two big defensive players want to tackle for a
Lossan Smith second long way to go after the holding
trap play off the right side. Good stuff there by
the Cavaliers pushing the runner back and now lost of
(01:31:02):
a couple on the play. Yeah, pretty good spot again
on forward progress out to the thirty four the third down,
they've got to reach midfield. Just past midfield, So third
and seventeen for the Indians first drive of the second half,
(01:31:23):
fourteen nothing, Hillsboro on top. They send Zach Brown out
to the left, Mason Dumpert right now burns behind him,
and they have the wing back Hockstool to the left
bay wanting to pass, and it looked like a hole
there running is dump running now puts it across the
(01:31:44):
middle but incomplete. Yeah, great effort from Beverly off the
left side of the defense there. I agree with you, Greg,
certainly close to the hole, but it ended up making
the quarterback plush the pocket four cent complete and it
looks like Hillsborough's got the punt away chilkof he gets
that stop that we talked about coming out of the
locker room. We got the big holding penalty and then
(01:32:09):
good rush there forcing a tough pass. Hillsborough will fin it.
The Calves send back carte ligan. I see him break
one Linus scrimmage around at thirty four, fourth and seventeen.
Good snap kick is away, nice funt coming down. Ligan
moving to his left, takes it at the thirty two
(01:32:30):
thirty five forty forty five fifty down the sideline, breaks
a tackle forty Hillsborough thirty eight yard line carte ligan
eighteen twenty eight about thirty one thirty two yards on
the return for a Ligan in great field position for
the cams to start the second half.
Speaker 1 (01:32:49):
Yeah, nice shop comes up and fields it on the run.
Speaker 4 (01:32:53):
Pretty good job blocking. Had to return left there up
the far sideline, which is the Chilicothee sideline evening And
obviously anytime you can get that young man in space,
that's usually going to end well for Chili coffee. And
when he's out past the forty yard line and Chilicothee
with with a with a golden opportunity here to cut
into this fourteen nothing Hillsborough.
Speaker 3 (01:33:15):
League Victor Hitchings in the slot ensign out to the
right and they do keep legging back with Hammon Now
and I'll run it off left side. A Legan forces
his way forward, tries to push forward, still pushing what
looked like a two yard game may wind up in
about five yards.
Speaker 4 (01:33:34):
And now a late flag. Well, that's really been starting
to come both ways. There's been some extracurricular after about
the last three or four plays, and this is really
really You've got to compose yourself and make sure you
stay in the moment because it's a good way to
kill at the draw.
Speaker 3 (01:33:53):
These little things for the Calves. If this goes against them,
it would be maybe a dead ball foul. Coaches took
von Miller. He was on that far side wide receiver.
They just took him out of the game and talking
to him. I have no idea if that's what happened.
The call was made on the Chilicothy sidelines, So I
think you'll have.
Speaker 4 (01:34:13):
The five yard lig and run and then this should
be after the play. And it looks like they're coming
back against the Calves.
Speaker 3 (01:34:25):
And all the Caves with all their improvement those Again,
it's tough when you're in a situation to overcome penalties
like that and second and five inside the Hillsboro thirty
five unsportsmanlike conduct against the Cavaliers and brings it all
(01:34:47):
the way out almost back to Midfield's first and long.
Speaker 1 (01:34:52):
It could be first in about.
Speaker 3 (01:34:53):
Twenty him and back calling the signals. Almost hate to say,
I almost think it might have been against von Miller
because they took him out of the game and the
coach is still talking to him.
Speaker 1 (01:35:06):
That would have been away from the play.
Speaker 3 (01:35:09):
And a run leggan left side and not a whole
lot of room, got three or four maybe to the
forty five of Hillsborough.
Speaker 1 (01:35:22):
They got third down.
Speaker 3 (01:35:23):
I guess if that was a dead ball, then that
would be true because it was after the play. So
the calves we're looking at second and five at the
thirty five of Hillsborough. Now they're looking third down and
about sixteen or seventeen from the forty five of Hillsborough
(01:35:44):
after un sportsmanlike conduct called against him on a dead
ball foul third down, Hammond wants to throw look out
from behind. He's got Henson and he dropped the ball
ice fast, right in the bread basket.
Speaker 1 (01:35:56):
Henson.
Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
That's the old look up the field and start to
run before he caught the ball. Happens to the best
of him and Henson dropped. It'll bring up fourth down
on the Cavesle punt. Yeah, you're spot on good, good route,
really well thrown ball. I don't know that he would
have had the first down, but it has certainly pushed
it up inside probably you know, fourth and four.
Speaker 4 (01:36:16):
Fourth and three with an opportunity to go for it.
But now obviously back here fourth in a mile, you're
gon to punt it.
Speaker 1 (01:36:23):
To what Harris will punt.
Speaker 3 (01:36:25):
Had a good punt his only other time he punted tonight,
Hi snap goes up to get it and now punts
it away, long punt back to get it's going to
head it to ten and it is going to bounce
it to four excuse me around the five and down
by the Cavaliers.
Speaker 1 (01:36:42):
A nice pun. Again, He's done a great job. This
punting unit for.
Speaker 4 (01:36:46):
Philicofee has just done an outstanding job here over the
last month. Harris sometimes using the directional and getting it
on the Now we've played so many games on turf
here lately. Tonight, Yeah, obviously on the grass. But that
time he kicks it deep and good coverage down there
to get it down inside the ten.
Speaker 3 (01:37:05):
Now the far side official as stone a flag actually
out of bounds over on the sideline and it's a
penalty against Hillsborough will be marked off after the ball
was down inside the ten.
Speaker 1 (01:37:20):
I didn't see the City was at a block in
the back.
Speaker 3 (01:37:26):
So Hillsboro is going to begin inside just inside their
five yard line. Calves fell fourteen enough and what would
they love to.
Speaker 1 (01:37:38):
Create a turnover? Here?
Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
Andrew Brown is back playing a defensive bat. Calves are
actually in a three deep, little different look. They've got
a little safety and ligging Henson and Brown. Your two
corners and the other eight people and five man line
and two linebackers right side running room and now stuffed
up quickly by those white jerseys. That was a gift
(01:38:08):
to the big fullback Ryan Burns. Burns gets a couple.
Speaker 4 (01:38:16):
Jill go off again pretty good at the point of
attack there.
Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
Out to the seven things done enough job tonight I
mentioned a couple of times, but Nate Sism up front
in that defensive middle guard and as always Anthony Smith
undersized as a defensive end. Great job as well. Truitt's
had a great game. Second and eight rolling to the
left quarterback looking to throw, tosses it out and almost
(01:38:43):
intercept it.
Speaker 4 (01:38:45):
I think they're going to get Henson on the contact
before and I don't even know if that was in
it wanted receiver, but he certainly had his hands on him.
Speaker 1 (01:38:53):
I mean it was an easy call.
Speaker 3 (01:38:56):
Yeah, mistake by Zion Henson. Zion, and you're absolutely correct, Shane.
The ball was rolling to the left. He was overthrew
his man at the twenty, and the other man downfield
was Hockstool. He was on down about six yards and
wasn't even the receiver. But the ball was in the
(01:39:17):
area and and Henson did. I I'm not sure what
Zion was. I think he lost side of the ball
and he wanted to make sure he didn't the guy
didn't run by him and he grabbed a hold of him.
And well, I'd say it would have been third and
eight inside your five yards inside the ten. Put a
first down on the interference for the Indians. First in ten,
(01:39:40):
moving out across the fifteen around the eighteen double wing formation,
man in motion, keep the ball, quarterback trying to roll
to the left and brought down into backfield Smith Anthony
Smith with the tackle for a loss as a quarterback again,
dumper kept it tr I had to get around the end.
Speaker 4 (01:40:02):
Well, you mentioned it, you know, with with the whenever
you get your linebacker is able to fly, Usually what
that means is you've got the defensive guys up front
at the point of attack doing a good job. You
mentioned Sism, you mentioned Anthony Smith, Tracey McCallister up there
that time. Cam Bouger did a good job of really
stretching the play out and staying true to his end.
And so second long, let's see if Chilicoth can take
(01:40:24):
advantage pull.
Speaker 1 (01:40:26):
Back right side. You had a hold of Burns.
Speaker 3 (01:40:28):
He fights away from one tackle on big strong running back,
gets out around the fifteen, So he's going to gain
the four yards lost. Well, I mean you got a
couple of them back spite out of the fifteen. That's
called third and twelve for.
Speaker 4 (01:40:43):
The Indians, most likely passing down here. Again, they haven't
been real, real comfortable. I think they've only tried two
pass plays. I think he's dropped excuse me three. He's
dropped back four times obviously had the penalty there the
one time one for one for three on the night
for six yards. Has the interception as well in that
(01:41:03):
fourth down play when Ligan picked it off.
Speaker 3 (01:41:05):
Keeping it on territory, they will keep it. Quarterback wants
to run with it, tries to break to the outside.
Nice job by Badger and gets him out of bounds
across the fifteen around the seventeen or eighteen, it'll bring
up fourth down. That time Dumber rolled out, looked like
he might want to throw, but he kind of had
in his mind he was gonna run all the way
(01:41:26):
actually take it out of bounds, and now Hillsboro will
be forced to punt. So here in the third quarter,
Hillsboro punts. Sheli Cothy got it. They punted, and now
Hillsboro will punt again and go back to a nice
punt by Harris that put the Indians in the hole,
made the long field six and a half to play.
Third quarter still fourteen to nothing. All fourteen points in
(01:41:46):
the first quarter for Hillsboro on two big long plays,
one to pick six. I punt this one's very very short,
and Sheli Cothy needs to get out of the way.
They do now takes a bounce backwards around the thirty five.
Speaker 4 (01:42:01):
I's got my glowan in the back there around the
thirty five. Ye luckily for Chilicothe. But hey, here you
are again in great field position. Last drive you uh
you obviously self inflicted uh issues that killed the drive.
Now you're right back there and again an opportunity to
cut into the lead. Chili Coffee continues to get opportunities.
Speaker 3 (01:42:23):
Market at to thirty six of Hillsboro started their last
drive into Hillsboro thirty eight, this time at the Hillsboro
thirty six. I was only a twenty one yard punt
for the Indians, but the CAP's good field position, trying
to get on the board, and Skill trelling fourteen to nothing,
(01:42:44):
snapping him and pitches left leggan around the end, cuts
it back inside, spins breaks a tackle, I save in
twenty five.
Speaker 1 (01:42:51):
Twenty Lincoln's gonna go all the way and he's got
a touchdown thirty seven yard. First guy had.
Speaker 3 (01:42:59):
Him, he spun out of it and then broke into
the secondary and Cartoon knew he had that one.
Speaker 1 (01:43:05):
In about to twenty nobody in front of him. Man,
I think thirty six yard touchdown and the Cavs are
on the board. Yeah. Point of attack Hillsborough is there.
Speaker 4 (01:43:16):
Used a little spin move to make a guy miss
and then obviously got into some space and then just
ended up running away from the defense.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
And as we all line up for the extra point.
Remember last week they missed their first extra point. It
was a bad snap and they chased that extra point
the whole game losing the Courthouse twenty eight, twenty six,
and now it looks like pick is good, but I
think Hillsborough was off sides.
Speaker 1 (01:43:43):
Carter Williams holding, I think.
Speaker 4 (01:43:47):
I don't know that that's the normals, but that time I
thought he got it down well.
Speaker 1 (01:43:51):
But there's something pre snap there and there you go. Yeah,
maybe unimpeded.
Speaker 3 (01:43:57):
They caught off sides unipedd and waved it off before
the kick was good. But they're going to have to
kick it again unless they want to go for two.
I think now, Coach Worth, all of you think, can
we take that on the kickoff, and I think they
are offside Hillsboro, but they'll we try the extra point.
(01:44:24):
Connor Bowling snap is low and the kick is up
and nice job out staying we just mentioned a wow,
great job of the holder Carter Williams.
Speaker 4 (01:44:34):
That ball comes back on a little skip. He not
only handles it, but he's able to get it put
down and give Bowling credit.
Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
To kick it. That's exactly what we talked about.
Speaker 4 (01:44:44):
Chilicothe cut the end of the lead out fourteen to seven,
and you just got to keep on little things at
a time. Win some special teams here and see if
you can win. Phil position ready for the kickoff. Let's
take a quick thirty second time out. Calves on the
board down fourteen to seven Calves football bex back in thirty.
Speaker 6 (01:45:02):

Speaker 3 (01:45:36):
Creig meghem Is, Shane Combes back at Hillsboro cav Finally
take advantage of good field position and thirty six yard drive.
In one play, very first play, Ligan was a pitch
to the left. The outside Hillsboro defender came up. Ligan
cut inside of him. The next guy to Phil tackling him,
but Ligan spun and when he spun out of the tackle.
(01:45:58):
He just spun out in an open area and he'll
speed for the touchdown and Calv's extra point. Fourteen to seven.
Back then they have hung tough after falling down behind
quickly tonight, fourteen and nothing in the first quarter. Now
it's fourteen to seven, still over six minutes to play.
Third quarter. Kickoff comes down in an on site kick
to the left side, is going to go out of
(01:46:19):
bounce A good good idea, but yeah, it's too far
to the left and the bouncing ball went out of bounds.
So Hillsborough's gonna get a good field position. Let's see
if it's at the forty or where it actually went
out of bounds, around the forty one.
Speaker 1 (01:46:38):
Possibly.
Speaker 4 (01:46:42):
I've been pretty I've been pretty surprised and really pleased
just how well Chilicafie's competing in the trenches. I know
they're down a few bodies here tonight, and you've mentioned
it a couple of times, and you're spot on that
front four Beverly and Smith and Michy Alister, and so
I'm just doing a real, real good job and allowing
(01:47:02):
mgloon and Harris at the linebacker and Brown to run
freely to the ball. Also get Badger a lot of
credit here on this near side. He's been staying pretty
true on the end and making sure the stretch plays out.
Speaker 3 (01:47:14):
Man in motion and now rolling out dumper pressure. He's
going to be sacked by Cam Badger into the backfield.
You know, he's just ready to say, you know, sometimes
I'm glass half empty guy, But and you know you've
got a lot of momentum and you but you try
(01:47:35):
an on side kick and give him the ball to
forty six yard line. But you know, also think Hillsboro's
had a lot of kickoff returns and big returns. And
I almost think it was as much I don't want
to kick a deep to them as it was trying
to get the football.
Speaker 1 (01:47:49):
It turned out to give a position.
Speaker 3 (01:47:51):
But the more I think about it might have been
part of the process at Chilicop, he thought. But they
do get a sack, forcing second and long straight ahead
burns right to tackle up to the forty five yard line,
picked up about six, could bring up a third and.
Speaker 1 (01:48:04):
Ten well right back to back plays.
Speaker 4 (01:48:07):
Just as I mentioned Badger off the end, he was
the one that comes in and gets the sack that time.
He does a good job after knowing the ball comes
up the middle chasing that down. That play had probably
eight nine, ten more yards when he first originally breaks
into the open, but the Badger with a nice run
down there to get him on the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:48:25):
That was Logan Elliott. Okay, Burns no longer running back.
Elliott is a senior and Elliott is in at the
running back again. The two wing backs Captain and hawkstool
Ocksteel in motion looking to pass quick out to.
Speaker 1 (01:48:41):
The left side.
Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
Brown hit knock down, not much running room and now
drug down on the sideline.
Speaker 1 (01:48:53):
Cam.
Speaker 4 (01:48:53):
Badger's really really playing well. You've seen him on the sack,
you see him on the rundown in the run game
that time he reads the quick out. All they're trying
to do is throw the ball out to their talented
skill kid Zac Brown get him in space and Badger
runs all the way out there. He was joined by
Smith again, those two names, two names moving.
Speaker 3 (01:49:14):
They were dragging him and dragging him in the sidelines
and pushed him out of bounce. Hillsborough was yelling, but
the official never blew his whistle.
Speaker 1 (01:49:20):
He was let it continue.
Speaker 3 (01:49:22):
High snap calves weren't rushing unfortunately in a high punt,
not much chance going to hit it to thirty bounds
to the twenty five and down to the twenty yard line,
no chance for the ligging. Turned out to be a
very effective punt high and ain't got a big twenty
yard roll on top of it. Both the calves down
by seven, get the ball back deep in their own territory,
but we still got four to twenty three left in
(01:49:44):
the third quarter. Anyway, they spotted I think it's inside
the twenty, back at the eighteen.
Speaker 4 (01:49:57):
I mean out onto the field, and if you're chill,
it's all about positive drives, you know. The obvious is
you like to go get points and tie this thing up.
But can you make a couple first downs and possess
the ball a little bit, keep your defense fresh, maybe
flip the field with a good punt, and then gives
the Ligan breaks outside to the twenty, tries to cut
(01:50:17):
back in at the twenty. Now he's down at the twenty,
and somehow he falls to the twenty three. How he
does that should have been a two yard game and
he's gonna get four or five just that two or
three guys will have him. But he's able to lean
fall forward and always get those extra yards. And again
he's not a huge guy. Well, I think it's imagine
(01:50:38):
what he gets to be a senior.
Speaker 1 (01:50:39):
In big guy.
Speaker 4 (01:50:41):
I think it's the mixture of the vision and the
toughness and the physicality on the finish, get him five
second and five run it again up the middle, and
this time there's too many Red jerseys pushing him backward.
Now the far side officials walking in on at a
two yard Gamelegan.
Speaker 3 (01:50:59):
Wound up back inside is twenty after being shoved back
by a bunch of Red jerseys. Never did go down
on the ground, but as Sheen said, pretty good spot
brings up a third and short. If they go to
Leggan three times in a row here, a lot of
people win tight on the formation. Looks like a blitz
coming from Hillsboro. Now Hammon looks over to the side,
(01:51:24):
walks up to the center. Now backs off again, coming
up on three minutes to play snap, pitched a leg
and tried to get him around the corner and first
down all taken out of bounds over there.
Speaker 4 (01:51:38):
Good coaching, good quarterback play there at the line of scrimmage,
as you called, they were starting to walk up there
overtop the center. I think they decide to pitch it outside.
Let Ligan get to the edge. He does so, and
then move the chain first down.
Speaker 3 (01:51:56):
And I was hoping to keith the momentum move under
three minutes to play clock stop is Leagan went out
of bounds and they're three to play in the third quarter.
Caps A scored here in the third quarter through get
within seven fourteen to seven here out of Hillsborough.
Speaker 1 (01:52:11):
We'll get in the backfield.
Speaker 3 (01:52:12):
Hammon back wants to throw looking looking now he switches
out to Ligan thirty thirty five back to the outside
forty stiff arms a defender now pushes forward and kiss
the first down. He is he's wearing out a little
bit of it. I know we how many superb live
and try not to talk too much, but tell you what,
(01:52:35):
it's just an unusual freshman. If nothing else, Seane, We've
talked about unusual freshman in how many plays he's involved in, how.
Speaker 1 (01:52:41):
He's holding up as the young guy.
Speaker 4 (01:52:43):
Farewell is a great Fittish, great individual effort. Also give
credit there that was outstanding quarterback play. Andrew Hammond utilized
his eyes and moved the defensive player back off the
line a little bit so that he could sling it
out to his athletic back to make a plug.
Speaker 3 (01:52:57):
Kitchens needs to cut inside. He keeps it outside, and
he's gonna lose yardage. Well, easy to see for him
up here, but you could tell Victor now the Ligoann's
thirty six yard touchdown run a similar run where he
cut it up inside and scored that time. You could
see Hitchins probably needed to cut it up, might have
got four or five and one to use his speed
to get around the corner and pursuit cut up with
(01:53:18):
him and he loses yardage back and sign to the
forty four of chilicothink and it brings up second and
twelve clock running two o six two oh five.
Speaker 4 (01:53:29):
Not really in four downs territory here, so you really
need a n to play here, only down seven You
would think you don't want to do that fake blitz
by Hillsborough. Hammond wants to throw those that across the middle.
Got Henson at to fifty Hillsboro territory to the forty
five short of the first down by a yard.
Speaker 1 (01:53:47):
Nice read by Hammon, Well, it really is he again.
Speaker 4 (01:53:51):
Great use of the eyes goes to his progression. But
the key is the offensive line protecting him allowing him
to go through that. So again give the offensive line
a star there. Good quarterback play, third and very very manageable.
Ligan is out of the game getting arrest. I think
Connor Smith is in a running back. The Calves have
(01:54:12):
been extremely unsuccessful with him and trying to run up
the middle tonight, something they've scouted well. Now third and short,
he moves Cannon Smith over to his left hip.
Speaker 1 (01:54:21):
Third and short yard eache. They give it to Smith.
Speaker 3 (01:54:24):
First down, hit hard, but he got the first down
straight ahead power by Cannon Smith. He's had a nice
game tonight, especially on defense. Well, we've talked about it.
Speaker 4 (01:54:34):
The Calves have been really beat up at the running
back position. You lose your your senior Sean Smith back
in week two, and then obviously Ligan and then uh
Sawana Singh started to get a lot of carries. Now
he's missing for the second week in a row. So
what a big, big run there from Smith to move
the chain.
Speaker 3 (01:54:52):
Let's try and begin at their own eighteen chilicothe Hillsboro
territory at the forty two in a new set of
downs and carte Ligan back on field, and you'll come
out to a slot position on the right side. First
and ten Hammond looks to throw, looking, runs up the middle,
gonna run for he's got a few yards and now
I think a holding call on one of the cabs
(01:55:14):
as Hammond was able to pick up six or seven
yards on the scramble.
Speaker 4 (01:55:19):
Ain't they're gonna get the wide receiver down the field
on this side? I can't was that was that Hanson?
Maybe they had maybe that.
Speaker 11 (01:55:37):
M hm.
Speaker 1 (01:55:41):
M hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:55:50):
I'm back on every now and again. We're on Wi
Fi tonight. Didn't apologize for a few times tonight and
lose our signal for a few seconds. Nathan Tittle doing
a good John Packer Studios keeping us on so that
holding call again puts the calves behind the chains again.
(01:56:10):
After they had a good drive going him and back
to pass first and long looking now rolls to his left,
wants to throw deep down the middle and just off
the hands of one miller who went up for it
right at the first down marker at the thirty Pretty
nice pass for him and rolling to his left and
being pretty yackerd a little bit high and one got
up in the air, got a hand on it. But yeah,
(01:56:35):
they took Liggan out into the flat there and that
was well covered. So he rolled to the left and
then had Miller coming across and just just missed a
little bit of a chance for a big play there
down the middle of the field. Under twenty five seconds
to play. Third quarter, Cabs have come back within fourteen
seven and now facing second and very long, I want
(01:56:58):
to throw quick out left side. Nothing, Legan breaks a tackle,
but now two more Red Jerseys trying to go that
quick bubble screen of yeah, that's something that they'd not
been able to break. Carte loose on. Is that quick
bubble screen? Quick coverage by Gillsborough.
Speaker 4 (01:57:13):
Well, that's where you're trying to throw it out there
and get the blocker out in front and the block
just missed. A good job by the defender was able
to miss the block and then was there on the catch.
Speaker 3 (01:57:23):
Third down and long and the quarter comes to an end.
Good quarter for the Cavaliers. They get themselves within one
score after three quarters. Hillsborough fourteen Chilla Kathy seven back
with a fourth quarter action Cabs coverage in WBX.

I'm back to start the fourth quarter. We'll try to
get you some scores. Ain't trace Lydy and westfall twenty
one in the SPC. We it's third and very long.
They got to get all the way down to the
thirty two, so they've got about twenty yards to go.
Three receivers to the left, single receiver of the right.
Hammond looks right looking on a loss of down the
right side for Miller and excuse me, that was Henson,
(01:59:02):
not Miller.
Speaker 1 (01:59:05):
Cellar. They've got a.
Speaker 3 (01:59:09):
Taken film from above with a It keeps thinking I'm
seeing the football. Uh, Calves are gonna punt. They got
They put everybody to the left and got one on
one coverage to the right side for a minute like
he might have a chance. Henson tried to stop and
go up for it, but it was just over his hit.
Speaker 4 (01:59:28):
As I said earlier, this this particular unit's been pretty
good for the Calves.
Speaker 1 (01:59:32):
Harris has done a nice shop punting.
Speaker 9 (01:59:35):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:59:35):
They really need to win this possession.
Speaker 3 (01:59:38):
All had snap on the ground, Harris needs to pick
it up and punt it. And it's partially blocked now
grabbed by Illsborough. And there's the mistake. Great Well actually
took took the ball back. I think it was after
the play a love snap.
Speaker 1 (01:59:56):
Snap was back on the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:59:58):
Harris picked it up, I think had he He picked
it up and kicked it immediately, but he looked up
and thought about running.
Speaker 1 (02:00:04):
Then he tried to kick it.
Speaker 3 (02:00:05):
He got partially blocked in Hillsboro great field position, and boy,
what a huge mistake for the cavalleiders.
Speaker 1 (02:00:12):
Man.
Speaker 3 (02:00:12):
It puts the Indians of fourteen to seven, and that
may the momentum third quarter has been on the Cavs side.
It may turn it back around. We shall see.
Speaker 4 (02:00:23):
Well, based on the performance of that particular punt group,
you're probably talking about forty antel position.
Speaker 3 (02:00:33):
In Tilicothy territory. Straight ahead on the run, Burns got
a couple and stuffed up again. The Cave's done a
great job. Camon Smith Throwett cam Badger.
Speaker 4 (02:00:46):
Now here's one thing that is happening though, that the
whistle's coming so late that the guys are playing to
the whistle. So in fairness to boat teams, because this
one's going on hills work, in fairness to boat teams,
the whistle's coming so late that a lot of that
extracurricular activity is kind of coming.
Speaker 1 (02:01:04):
You know, it's hard to be is.
Speaker 4 (02:01:07):
It during to play, after the play whatever, But I
have noticed there's been a lot of times in the
spot tonight where they've let the play go just a
little longer than most crews have this year.
Speaker 1 (02:01:15):
That's going to go against Hillsboro. Dead ball personal foul.
Speaker 3 (02:01:19):
I told you just ain't trace over Westfall twenty one,
nothing piked in Leeds Paint Valley thirteen to six. Third quarter,
Union had a twenty eight nothing over a Dina Waverley,
twenty seven nothing over Minford. No further update on Bloom
Carol Logan on that was twenty one nothing in the
second quarter, Jackson thirty five nothing over Washington Courthouse. In
(02:01:42):
the fac matchup, Dumfort wants to keep it. Left side,
picks up maybe five and now tackled by Badger. Truan
goes down the pretty good forward progress again, but going
to be third down four Hillsboro. Seems like Badger and
S and McLoone or just names were saying on every
(02:02:03):
snaff just flying to the football.
Speaker 1 (02:02:08):
Pank book.
Speaker 3 (02:02:08):
Kentucky meating Ironton twenty one fourteen tonight, third down along
after the Calves had their punt partially blocked, Hillsboro took
over in Cavalier territory. Here comes a big play.
Speaker 1 (02:02:22):
They were able.
Speaker 3 (02:02:23):
To stop the first down, and then a dead ball
foul in Hillsborough pushed it back and now third down,
third and about seventeen or eighteen quarter back gives it
on the reverse to Hawkstall coming around right side, gets
by one tackle and looking to get by a second
and run out of bounds by one miller.
Speaker 4 (02:02:46):
Even though we didn't get him on the ground again.
Beverly and Smith and a nice job of stringing that
play out, and I think Hillsboro is gonna send the
punt unit out. Now you're in this position on the
plus side. For Hillsboro, you really got to be aware
of a eight and one of their athletes getting the
ball in space here.
Speaker 1 (02:03:03):
You want to make sure the ball gets what they
lined up.
Speaker 3 (02:03:10):
Actually on that whole series they lost three or four yards.
There comes the punt and a line dry punt to
the sideline and it goes out of bounds. Not a
great punt. They didn't want Lincoln maybe to return, but
they should get that up between the twenty five and thirty,
I believe.
Speaker 4 (02:03:31):
Well, I'll tell you the Chilicothe defense. You have to
give them a lot of credit. Keep in mind fourteen seven,
they're only responsible for seven of the points this evening,
and they have really after that first drive, they've really
competed and they've won the point of attack. The defensive
front doing a nice job. Linebackers flying to the ball.
Hillsborough was well over one hundred yards in their first
(02:03:52):
eight nine carries, and now over the last ten elevens,
well they pretty much have been stopped for very little.
Speaker 3 (02:04:00):
All the Calves have seventy eight yards to go. We're
in the fourth quarter of the trail. By seven they
were at their own twenty two. I thought that was
that ball went out of bounds. Up around the twenty five.
They marketed the twenty two pitchins in motion him and
hands off twenty two, twenty five, twenty six good tackle
on Carte Leggan pickup of a couple twenty two out
(02:04:26):
for the twenty six four yards for Ligan Leggoan. Well
over one hundred yards tonight he has the only touchdown
thirty six yard run for Calves only score tonight. I
think he was over sixty or seventy and certainly the
thirty six.
Speaker 4 (02:04:38):
Yeah, I've got him up over about one hundred and
thirty three.
Speaker 1 (02:04:42):
Now give or.
Speaker 3 (02:04:43):
Take second down, high snap pitch it to the Legan
right side, has to cut it in. Lost his footing,
so I camera was there. He had to cut in,
much like the touchdown run he had. But when he
cut in, he lost his footing on the what sort
of a little bit of do down there in the
natural turf, and slipped and fell, just like at third
and long.
Speaker 1 (02:05:02):
Cavaliers.
Speaker 3 (02:05:02):
They get the ball back chilling fourteen to seven, hoping
to move it and still nine to twenty to play
in the game. A long way to drive for Chilicothe
assume they'll put it up in the air on this
one looking looking Hammond looking being chased, and now it
gets away from one man cuts back inside and gets
back in the line of scrimmage. A bit nowhere to go.
(02:05:25):
He got by one man broke out to the right side.
Too many red jerseys and cabs go quickly three and
out and now out the punnet right back.
Speaker 4 (02:05:34):
Yeah, they wanted Miller out here on the near side.
The only rural opportunity they had would have been on
some sort of go route. They had plenty of help underneath,
and it just way too crowded. Pressure forced him to
step up in the pocket and just just good defense.
Eight forty five left in the game, fourteen to seven.
Hill's borrow all fourteen points in the first quarter. Cabs
(02:05:54):
touchdown came into third period, there comes a big rush
on another low snap, goes right through the punter's legs
and he's tackled back and what he Back to back
bad snaps by the Cavaliers, and well, we talked early
in the year special teams hurt the CAF so bad,
so much, and we've talked how much they've improved. Boy tonight,
(02:06:16):
two bad snaps on punts and that one maybe be
the straw that breaks the Campbell's back.
Speaker 1 (02:06:24):
Yeah, you can't think that fast if.
Speaker 3 (02:06:27):
He would have run into the end zone or got
it out for a safety, but it's tough to think
that faster than the punter. Instead, he picked it up,
tackled at his own four in Hillsborough from the four
yard line.
Speaker 1 (02:06:41):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (02:06:42):
Yeah, we've mentioned how bid the defense has been the night.
This is obviously going to be an uphill challenge. You
just got to try to stay tough here and see
if you get a stop, maybe even strip a ball,
knock a ball loose here.
Speaker 1 (02:06:53):
Looks like Elliott might be back in the running back position.
Speaker 3 (02:06:59):
I certainly helps if I goes the other one. Uh,
pre snap penalty against Hillsboro. Hillsboro, I llegal procedure. You're right,
that certainly helps out maybe make it a little easier
for the Cavaliers to maybe come up with a stop here.
Speaker 4 (02:07:23):
Unofficially, I've got Hillsborough seven penalties for what it was
that about.
Speaker 1 (02:07:28):
Sixty yards and they've had two unsportsmenlike.
Speaker 4 (02:07:37):
Now in the kicking game, young man's had some pretty yeah,
pretty good clearance on his pat So again you're now
getting it down to anything that makes the two scores
going to make it really tough here for Chilicoto eight
point thirty to play yea Valiers was such a good
second half, and twice in a row the snap has
bounced back and low. That time we bounced right through
(02:07:59):
the leg to the Cavalier punter Harris Hillsbrol got it
inside the five second man through right side hawkstool to
the five pushing forward or pushed from behind inside the
five second man through hawkstool and was hitted about the sixth.
Speaker 3 (02:08:20):
But Hillsboro kept a big push kund of the tush
push there from behind on their running back and he
pushed him three more yards to the two.
Speaker 4 (02:08:29):
That young man's got a nose for the goal line.
I think he comes into the game leading Hillsburn touchdowns
right around nine or ten.
Speaker 1 (02:08:34):
On the year.
Speaker 3 (02:08:39):
You know why, Dumper mesa dumper to junior up under center,
second and short now to get in for the touchdown
single running back. Dumper wants to run quarterback sneak a
push him from behind and don't think he made it.
Speaker 4 (02:08:56):
No signal on the fore side. He's walking in about
the one. Well, uh lazy got there.
Speaker 1 (02:09:02):
I guess he thought he would chast it.
Speaker 3 (02:09:12):
Touchdown and the calves with a huge mistake. It happens,
but back to back bad snaps. They had fourteen to seven,
come back to the third quarter stopped. Hillsboro had good
field position. A bad snap gave Hillsborough the ball at
the chill Cootee thirty five. They stop him again, but
then they have to punt three and out again. A
(02:09:34):
bad snap in Hillsboro took over to four. They move
it in for the touchdown in a two score game
extra pointy tip, good snap and the kick is up
in it looks.
Speaker 1 (02:09:46):
To be good.
Speaker 3 (02:09:46):
It is time out on the field. Seven thirty five
left in the ballgame. Hillsborough their first score since the
first quarter. Twenty one seven, Indians over the Calves back
with more football and Calves coverage after this thirty second
time out, thirty.
Speaker 1 (02:10:14):
Got us.
Speaker 12 (02:10:17):
For over fifty years, the Holler family has been here
to help families in our area remember the life of
a loved one, share that loved one's legacy into heal
as they go through the grieving process. The Heller family
continues to remember sharing hell with the area's largest, most
modern facility on site crematory, and most importantly, with their
carrying and dedicated professionals. Each individual's life is unique, and
(02:10:39):
selecting how her funeral home ensures their tribute will be
just as unique how her funeral home helping families remember,
share and heale.
Speaker 3 (02:10:51):
Craig Vecam and Shane Cones back with you twenty one
seven If you joined us light.
Speaker 1 (02:10:58):
Right, maam.
Speaker 3 (02:10:59):
The Calves have in one game and they've had it,
you know you set here and tonight maybe one of
their best games they played, and we got to off signs.
Speaker 1 (02:11:09):
I believe.
Speaker 3 (02:11:13):
Legal procedure against Hillsboro on the kickoff, but Shane and
I know we're beating a dead horse. And you know
the other games we talk about behind the chains and
mistakes here and there. I mean tonight, a mix up
and you throw a sixty yard interception return and then
you play well the rest of the game, and it's
kind of what will go wrong? Does go wrong? For
(02:11:34):
the Cavs. They do a great job. They are fourteen
to seven. Defense is doing a great job. In back
to back times they get a bad snap to the
punter and the second time it breaks their back because
they wound up with the four yard line the time
Harris was able to run it down and it set
Hillsborough up. They hadn't scored since the first quarter. But
when you get to bald the opponent's four yard line
(02:11:55):
makes it tough.
Speaker 1 (02:11:56):
It certainly does.
Speaker 4 (02:11:57):
And if you're Chilicothee now is similar spot last week
when it looked like it was getting away, Chilicoffe responded
and was able to get it back to one possession game.
So if you're ChIL Coffee now, the mindset is, hey,
let's go get a score on the board and get
this back to one possession just so anything can happen.
Speaker 3 (02:12:14):
Nice kick off by Hillsborough from their own thirty five.
They kick it into the end zone on a line drive,
so that'll force the Caves to start at their own
twenty yard line. They were hoping to get a nice
return there, but a pretty good kickoff. Caps had moved
up their returnment were up around the nine or ten
(02:12:35):
yard line, but wisely when they went over their head,
they let it go, didn't try to go back and
catch it.
Speaker 1 (02:12:42):
Chili Coty's moved the ball.
Speaker 4 (02:12:43):
Well, they haven't had a lot of home run ability.
You know, you had the obviously the big touchdown run
for the Ligan was what about thirty seven.
Speaker 1 (02:12:51):
Yard thirty six.
Speaker 3 (02:12:53):
Yeah, the last couple series they've not been al They
went three and out the last time. They wind up
punting it and you hope they can get things straightened
out on that snap to the punter. Really, the difference
in the second half on that special team activity.
Speaker 4 (02:13:10):
Again underneath help on Miller on the go route, I
think he'd get a one on one opportunity.
Speaker 3 (02:13:15):
Lican wants to run and going to run a reverse
the hitches nobody on the other side. He's got room
twenty five out to the near the thirty. Nice tackle
coming up is Brown and for a minute it looked
like that there was a lane as you could drive
a truck up the sidelines, but it closed kind of quickly,
but it will be a first down on the reverse,
Ligan pitching it Hitchens coming back the other way. They
(02:13:36):
get it to the thirty ten yards first down. I
think that was Brown on the outside that made that play.
I didn't see that Young was outstanding.
Speaker 1 (02:13:45):
Was that play.
Speaker 4 (02:13:45):
He came out of nowhere, designed it had all kinds
of potential, and he fought off the block.
Speaker 3 (02:13:50):
If he doesn't make that tackle, he's still running. Brown
did a great job for Hillsboro back to pass. Hammond
wants to throw plas is a deep down the middle,
got a man and he tries was a touchdown and
Hitchins dropped the ball at the forty yard line. Now
that was an outstanding throw because he had pressure coming
in his face. Shows off his arm strength there a
(02:14:10):
little bit because that's off his back foot and he's
threw an absolute strike.
Speaker 1 (02:14:16):
Almost didn't stride.
Speaker 3 (02:14:17):
Hitchins had to reach up a little bit, kind of
reach up over his shoulder. Bit that's a seventy yard
touchdown and Victor just Victor didn't hang on to it,
couldn't pull it in. And now it's second down in
ten with the camp just can't win for losing. Run
it straight ahead five yards, ten yards.
Speaker 1 (02:14:36):
Lincoln's got a chance. They won't catch him.
Speaker 3 (02:14:38):
Carte Legan thirty twenty ten, five touchdown Cadilairs.
Speaker 4 (02:14:43):
How about that freshman seventy yards. Yes, that's the whole
run we were talking about. He busts through the whole well,
blocked up front by the offensive line, and he takes
it out to the outhand this is a huge point
after These are the little things we're talking about. Chulkathe
very capable of executing here in the pat game, trying
(02:15:04):
to get this to a seven point Hillsborough lead. Here,
this is a big, big point.
Speaker 3 (02:15:09):
Here Carte Leggan when he broke through, Nobody's going to
catch him, and he broke into the secondary and now
ran everybody easily. Seventy yard touchdown. Second of the night
for Cartel Liggan. And now, as we said, a big
extra point coming up, looked like somebody was off sides
again from the sideline for Hillsboro.
Speaker 4 (02:15:33):
I still think, I still think I kick it. Obviously,
a lot of the higher level analytics will tell you
go for the two here. You can win it on
a touchdown pat later, or you could go for the
people two again.
Speaker 3 (02:15:48):
And you put Ligand back and he just ran seventy yards,
so I'm not sure they want to put him back.
Speaker 1 (02:15:54):
You're right, I agree if they can kick it well.
Just when.
Speaker 3 (02:16:03):
There's two bad snaps and one giving Hillsborough the ball
at the four yard down at Chillcothey and they go
up two scores, and you think, man, that was a
strawler broke the camel's back and then a pretty good handle.
The kick is up and it's good, big kick. Time
out on the fields, six fifty seven to play in
the ballgame. Cabs get themselves back within a scorch Hillsborough
(02:16:24):
twenty one, Chilli Kathy fourteen Cabs coverage in fourteen ninety.
Speaker 7 (02:16:27):

Speaker 3 (02:17:00):
Greg Bagaman Shane Collins. Just when it looked like maybe
the Calves with a whole bunch of momentum through the
third quarter, the bad snap and turned it over in
their own four yard line when they were trying to punt.
But give them credit, they come right back and really
then after a pass it could have went for a
touchdown of seventy yards, Hitchens unable to hang on to it.
(02:17:21):
They come back to Ligan and he but once he
got through the defensive line and into the secondary, he
just turned on the burners and seventy yard touchdown run
and he got to be getting close to two.
Speaker 1 (02:17:31):
Hundred yards rush.
Speaker 3 (02:17:32):
Unofficially, I think I having two to two, So the
Calves will kick it off. Still just under seven minutes
to play in the ballgame now twenty one to fourteen.
I don't want to Jason. You know Hill Sprawl has
not had a long drive tonight. They pick six, They
(02:17:52):
had a seventy two yard run and then the third
score came from a four yard touchdown drive when they
took over the caves four But hopefully the Calves won't
let them drive the field here. Late in the game
they to kick another onside kick and it's grabbed at
the forty There comes to return down the sidelines loose
and out of bounds.
Speaker 1 (02:18:12):
I don't know why.
Speaker 3 (02:18:15):
I'm not sure why we're bouncing an onside kick, and
it's given Hillsborough interesting to talk to coach after the
game or sometime as to why the Calves are kicking
off that way. I mean one thing to bounce it
down the field, another as a crossfield like an onside kick,
and it's turned into twenty.
Speaker 4 (02:18:34):
I think it's as much execution as anything we've We've
highlighted how dangerous their returnment are in the back well.
In that case, they've got you know, Jaden Captain up
there in a position and I think once you kick
it to him in the air, that's probably not what
you're wanting. I think they're trying to find some green
space and just didn't quite execute the spot and obviously
a huge return get field position for Hillsborough.
Speaker 3 (02:18:56):
Helicothie forty six. So you give it in seven and
try another kind of an on side kick straight ahead
on the run. Gonna be pretty good yards. Hillsborough's gone
to that run and they last three or four runs
up the middle. They've lineman two of them have gotten
behind the runner and pushed it him forwards, helped him
(02:19:16):
get three or four on the carry. Second down Hillsborough.
As we said in Chilicothy territory clock moving six thirty
to play in the game, and I'm not again, we'll see,
I'm not sure what the Calves and ally decided to
move it up all up. He moved it up another yard.
The guy came from the behind the Calves defense and
(02:19:39):
moved it up a yard running to pass pitch out right.
All that lot of room for wholesick hullsick thirty hull
sick twenty five breaks the tackle now down at the
twenty three.
Speaker 4 (02:19:50):
Five comes in late. I'd be a face mask as
late as that came in really late.
Speaker 3 (02:20:00):
Yeah, the official is, and you're right, Shane facemask Chill Cothy.
Speaker 1 (02:20:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:20:10):
It's one of the few times here since the first
quarter that they got sucked in on the end. Good
ball handling from the quarterback dumper there and then in
the left side of the defensive line, just sucked in.
They'd been doing a good job of staying true to
their reeds and stringing to play out that time. Once
they got sucked in just way too much talent from
that young man.
Speaker 3 (02:20:30):
Once he got to the edge half the distance, moves
it inside the twenty. In Hillsboro again, they started to
forty six at Chill Kathy and there's a late give
up off the fumble ball loose. I think the Cabs
are running the guy it.
Speaker 1 (02:20:45):
I think Smith came out with it, Canon.
Speaker 3 (02:20:47):
Smith, who's had a tremendous game tonight. Who gets the recovery.
I'm not sure who fumbled, but the run was off
the right side. Somebody reached up and knocked it out
of the hands, and the Calves get a big defensive
break there as they recover inside their own fifteen. But
they're down seven with the football and under six minutes
(02:21:07):
to play in the game.
Speaker 4 (02:21:09):
Well, good news is time's not really a factor. You
have three timeouts. So again, you just want it. Your
whole playbook is still open. You just want to continue
to do what you've been doing, Try to stay ahead
of the chain, put good drives together.
Speaker 3 (02:21:27):
Oh the Calves offense back out there, Shane said, plenty
of time A long way to go eighty eight yards
for a score down seven. But again the ligan just
broke a long one, so maybe that can happen again.
Seventy yarder Hitchens legging carries, breaks out to the outside
fifteen maybe to the sixteen. Tried to read his block
(02:21:49):
breaking outside picks up about four on the play. So
that was outstanding by Cole Crawford over on the left side.
That young man just completely fire off the ball. And
you know that was someone they played without three four
weeks last week, and what a difference. Even I don't
think it's coincident that we're talking about a two hundred
yard back tonight with him back running behind you.
Speaker 1 (02:22:13):
Now, no running back.
Speaker 3 (02:22:14):
Second down and six, Hammon's standing in his own ten
in the pistol, sends a ligging in motion. He wants
to throw throwse to the sidelines in a bad pass,
kind of short arm that he was looking for. Henson
sent two guys deep. Henson was in the flat that
the pass come up short, and just like adding, you're
(02:22:34):
up a third down now if you don't make it,
I think you still got a punt. There's still enough time.
You know, your time out is still over five minutes.
Although Chillicothe punting the ball in the second half has
been a big adventure. First half they had some great punts.
Second half they've been having troubles snapping the ball with
the punter, but which you'll see. He got another down
(02:22:54):
to play. They can pick up the first down. Two
receivers f three to the right, nobody back with him
and Fox stuffed on the incomplete pass. Now him and
back up to the line, ready to go. Snap looking looking,
rolls to his left, gonna try to run with it,
and breaks a tackle. He gets out across the twenty,
(02:23:17):
fights for a first down, but he's gonna be shy.
This will be kind of a huge decision. Say he
went out of the twenty one, it's gonna.
Speaker 4 (02:23:26):
Be a long one, maybe one and a half pick
up about four and a half or five on the run.
I think he wanted Miller across the middle, and again
the middle's just it's been well defended tonight. I think
I think their best shot with Miller's up the side
(02:23:46):
gonna go for it will be liggan and they pitch it.
They're gonna try to get him around the inn Any
stuffed well turned out not to be you want to
get the ball in the hands of Carte Ligan.
Speaker 3 (02:23:59):
He's got over two yards rushing. They thought they could
get him around the end. But Hillsboro a nice call
by the Hillsboro defensive coaches.
Speaker 1 (02:24:07):
They obviously expected to run.
Speaker 3 (02:24:09):
They had a lot of guys up with the line
of scrimmage and they got big penetration at forced carts
A to belly back a little bit. He had no
chance to get around the corner in Hillsboro will take
over on downs.
Speaker 4 (02:24:25):
So you started doing the math on the not just
to touch down, but the field goal as well, because
again the field goal pushes it back to two possession
right now.
Speaker 1 (02:24:32):
To be about a thirty three yarder.
Speaker 3 (02:24:37):
For twenty two to play on the ground. On the snap,
Hillsboro trying to help out the Cavaliers. They turn it
over on the first play. That happened on the snap,
but it looked like Dumford pulled away from center and
didn't have the ball and Hillsboro kind of looking bewildered,
(02:25:00):
and the boy turned it right back of that's I believe
three turnovers for the Indians. Two fumbles here in the
last couple of minutes. They had an interception in the
first half.
Speaker 1 (02:25:11):
Just can't say enough about Chilicoty defense.
Speaker 4 (02:25:13):
And I keep in mind they've only given up fourteen
to twenty one, and they come up with back to
back turnovers even the one touchdown the ball was given
to Hillsborough.
Speaker 3 (02:25:21):
They're what the four yard line unbelievable. See what they
elect to do? They get it back from their own
seventeen Another set of downs. Hammond wants to throw, got
time looking now he's going to scramble. Try to scramble left.
Throw God, he's man one Miller twenty five. Hit hard
at the twenty five.
Speaker 1 (02:25:40):
Nice job. Nice scrambled by mister Hammond. Ruled to the left.
Found one. Miller picked up of about six or seven.
Better than a sack.
Speaker 4 (02:25:49):
Yeah, the sophomore quarterback just keeps getting better and better
that time extends to play. Miller does a good job
of continuing to work for his quarterback. You pick up
of about five or six and good pick up on
first down.
Speaker 3 (02:26:04):
Stay ahead of the chains here in this high snap,
Ligan laid handoff. Lican's gonna be hitting the back. Timing
was off with the high snap. Okays are really struggling
with the snaps. And now Chuck Coffee calls time out
three twenty nine because they're going to have a big
third down. They had third and third and four and
(02:26:24):
they're second four and out's third and four almost like
and we'll keep it right here, Shane, I'm not sure.
I mean, if your heels broadly say, you know what,
Liggan's had a thirty six yard and what a seventy
yard touchdown, We're not gonna let him beat us. And
they got enough people up and they're going to say,
you know what, you're going to have to beat us
at the pass.
Speaker 1 (02:26:44):
I think right now, well, I think that's a good point.
Speaker 4 (02:26:45):
I think a lot of times the snap, even on
that on that particular plate, that run or if you
play fake golf of it, the snap is so important,
the rhythm of the play.
Speaker 1 (02:26:54):
But you're not wrong.
Speaker 4 (02:26:55):
I mean, I think they're going to sell out on
eighteen and try to make someone else beat him. I
think some of your off are up the sideline. I
think Miller get more of a one on one opportunity than.
Speaker 1 (02:27:04):
Across the middle.
Speaker 4 (02:27:05):
We've also seen Sism run free down the seam a
couple times, so those are a couple of things to
watch here on the third down. But with the clock
getting down to three twenty nine, I think you are
in four down territory. I just don't think you can
afford to punt at.
Speaker 11 (02:27:18):
A what.
Speaker 1 (02:27:21):
Third down.
Speaker 3 (02:27:21):
I might have actually lost the yard on that play.
Third down Cavaliers again. They just went three and out
and went forward and fourth down. Unfortunately, Hillsborough fumbled on
their first play deep in chalk out the territory and
Caps have it and now third out. There a good
pass on the first down. Now third and four and
in motion his hitchins back to pass Hammond those to
(02:27:41):
the sideline missing. They ran out to Miller. One timing
was just off one. I think Hammond thought he was
led him a little bit too much. Miller went down, stopped,
took one step to the sidelines and Hammond looked like
he threw it. Another step towards the sidelines and incomplete.
Now you're back to fourth down again. They had that open,
(02:28:04):
but would have taken a perfect pass. Now you got
to do it again, fourth and four, Hillsborough. A lot
of people up near the line of scrimmage. Hammond wants
to think, oh White open, he had a man and
they don't. They had Sism. Nobody was within ten yards
of Sism down the middle, and Ligan is taken down
and that'll turn it over. Well, that's a case there
(02:28:28):
where you know you want to get to ball a ligan.
But if Andrew had looked up, all he had to
do was lobbed down the middle and Sism was going
to get out near midfield easily, but didn't see him,
and Hillsborough stops him again and Hillsboro takes over.
Speaker 4 (02:28:45):
Yeah, I had on the formation on the third and
fourth down play, had Hitchins and Miller here to the
near side and they were trying to do some clear
out with Hitchens to see if they couldn't get Miller.
The third down play, you mentioned that it was there
and then that time unable to convert on four down.
Need the defense one more time here.
Speaker 3 (02:29:07):
Being in motion and up the middle, Calves get a
lot of pressure, tackle for a loss back to the
twenty five clock will run three thirteen, three twelve.
Speaker 1 (02:29:17):
Well, we talked a.
Speaker 3 (02:29:18):
Lot about Andrew him he's just a sophomore, and we
even mentioned tonight chanin On's how he's progressed. Yeah, it's
not an easy position where whatever level you're playing now.
And when I say Sism was wide open. But if
you're back there, you know what you're You're the man
you want to get the ball to is Ligan. And
I think Andrew kind of settled in on that saw
him in the flats. You said they tried to clear
(02:29:39):
it out, get him the ball, but easy from up
here far away. When you look down field, nobody was covering.
Their safeties were coming up hard, and Sism was down
the middle, and Andrew just didn't seem Second and ten
straight ahead, No rolling out to the left. Now pitch
out to the left. Yeah, still loose on the run
down inside ten. A captain that's been there, that's been
(02:30:04):
the big man tonight for Hillsboro. Talked a lot about
Hawkstool and certainly the big running back Burns, but it's
been Trey Captain, a sophomore that appears to every bit
to how the quickness and speed much like Carte Ligan does.
Speaker 4 (02:30:20):
Yeah, Trey Captain five eleven, one seventy. And I think
what jumps out of me is how quick he gets
up to his top speed. I mean, he just looks
like he shot out of the cannon.
Speaker 3 (02:30:30):
The calves now first and goal to go with the
nine twenty one to fourteen Hillsborough. Late in the ball game,
coming up on the two men in mark Hillsborough looking
at the back, judge holds up two hands. You know
when to run to play and straight ahead on the carry.
That might be Elliot fighting for yardage.
Speaker 1 (02:30:50):
You're Hillsboro.
Speaker 3 (02:30:51):
You want to make sure that the guy fighting for
yard do you don't lose the football. Looks like he
got from the nine to the five. Pilicothee will call
a timeout with one left in the ball game.
Speaker 4 (02:31:06):
I think on the last couple of runs, ChIL Coffee
not and one. In one sense, maybe you're saying they're
not tackling as well as they have throughout the evening.
But there you're obviously trying to strip the ball at
this point because the clock does become a factor.
Speaker 1 (02:31:20):
Chili Coffee down the one time out at one eight.
Speaker 4 (02:31:24):
Really, really, it's gonna be difficult just mathematically on the
clock alone, even if you hold them out of the
end zone.
Speaker 3 (02:31:33):
Here, time out Cavaliers. Next week we're back on the
road back to Highland County. Cabs travel over to Greenfield, McLean.
This is going to be a hard game to wrap
up and so many positives. With the Cavaliers a down
fourteen to nothing early five, great defense the end of
the half, came back, scored into third quarter fourteen seven
(02:31:54):
stop deals brough, but twice in a row a bad
snap to the punter put them in a hole. Second
time it was goal to go to the four yard
line and made a twenty one seven. Then Ligan busted
a seventy yard run twenty one to fourteen. And the
Calves have had it two more times with a chance
to tie it, unable to get out from the shide
of their own goalposts. Gold to go. Give to the
(02:32:19):
second man Cleu right side. They're pushing from behind and
now pulled down and the Calves I think are going
to use their final time out with one thirty nine remaining.
That was hockstool carried down to maybe the three yard line, and.
Speaker 1 (02:32:39):
Again they give.
Speaker 4 (02:32:42):
They give that extra second or two a push makes
it really difficult when you consider the size.
Speaker 1 (02:32:47):
Of their offensive line getting in behind the ball carrier there.
Keep it right here. They're down gold to go for
the Indians.
Speaker 4 (02:32:58):
Keep in mind at Portsmouth left this year, Chillicothee was
down eighteen seventeen and they were able to come up
with a fourth and one stop, fourth and goal from
the one, they're able to get a stop and then
they run able to go down obviously to get the
winning score. But they didn't come up big time on
that particular situation. Here's my question for you with the
with the good field goal kicker. If they don't get
in here, if your Hillsbrody, you just go ahead and
(02:33:20):
take the three and try to put the game away.
Speaker 3 (02:33:23):
I know some think there's a time out, Yeah, there
have no time out left. They run this play, you
can probably the clock will run down well under a minute,
maybe forty five seconds, and I almost think they might
run and give them ninety nine yards to go. But
of course if they score, it's all over anyway. Under center, quarterback,
(02:33:45):
man in motion and a handoff in the backfield down immediately.
Nice penetration cam Badger Cannon Smith number forty five, trace
McAllister McGlone. Well, those guys have played well up front tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:34:01):
They really have.
Speaker 3 (02:34:03):
The clock should run here. I think Calves are out
of timeouts, so from the six yard line, so.
Speaker 4 (02:34:10):
You think hillsbro had run it all the way down
to one second on the play clock called their time
outside what they want to do, and again they're options
that you you know, certainly good enough of the field
goal unit to put the game away. Obviously, bad things
can happen there by snap block anything like that.
Speaker 1 (02:34:27):
You said it best too.
Speaker 4 (02:34:28):
If they do go for it and Chillicothe gets to stop,
they got to go ninety five yards without a timeout.
Speaker 3 (02:34:33):
Yeah, fifty one second's fifty one point seven, they call
the timeout, and now I'll see what the elect to do.
If they are going to elect to kick a field
goal here, it's twenty one. Almost looks like they're going
to send their field gold unit in. Wesley Bailey's the
senior kicker. We've been highlighting this evening.
Speaker 4 (02:34:52):
We've mentioned on his pats that we felt like he
had another old fifteen to twenty yards of clearance.
Speaker 1 (02:34:56):
So this is certainly not an issue in terms of distance.
Speaker 4 (02:35:00):
Yeah, obviously there's there's risk, particularly at the high school level,
with snaps and holds and blocks and all sorts of craziness.
But if they're able to execute it, that would probably.
Speaker 3 (02:35:12):
Change someone telling you if they will see what happens here.
But post game wise, we're gonna talk about and one
of the Week number seven. You still got several guys
out of the line of the improvement to Cavaliers.
Speaker 1 (02:35:25):
They ain't have improved. They've had a good game tonight, just.
Speaker 3 (02:35:31):
A bad luck pick six within a couple of bad snaps,
just one or two little things, and they really played
much better. We'll see what happened. They're gonna temp Bailey
field goal from the thirteen to twenty three yard field
goal totemp snap is down, kick this up and it's
partially got a piece of it. The Calves got a
piece of it, and and Smith and Leggan and they're
(02:35:54):
still They're still alive.
Speaker 4 (02:35:56):
I'll tell you, I've said it about this team all
year long. I know the result haven't been what they've wanted.
But the one thing you can hot doubt about these
Chilicothe kids is they just keep playing. They just keep competing.
And you know they they've had three times the night
where Hillsboro should have put them away and just didn't.
And I think a lot of credit has to go
to the Chillicothe defense for just continuing to play.
Speaker 3 (02:36:18):
On every snap, well forty seven point three seconds, Calves
have eighty yards to go. They trailed twenty one to fourteen. Now,
if you're Hillsboro, I mean they've been pushing a lot
of people up, not letting Ligan be to them. But
I think the Calves will put the ball in the
obviously the forty seven. But when you got a guy
(02:36:38):
like Ligan, you want to get him the ball right now,
no running backs. Lican has split to the left with
two other Chilicoth. The receivers snapped to him and looking,
here comes a rushing man looking now looking to throw.
And was that a pass or not? The hand was forward, Yeah,
I don't the hand was moving forward.
Speaker 1 (02:36:58):
That was a pass. So he's rolling out, coming here
to the near.
Speaker 4 (02:37:04):
Side as he started to throw, and the and the
problem is at the high school level, you don't have
any way to review it, so whatever they say.
Speaker 1 (02:37:11):
Is going to be.
Speaker 3 (02:37:13):
Our vandage point. Again, chilicothee here, But it looked like
Hammon was stowing the ball. His arm was coming forward.
They're double checking with the officials, and officials let it
play out. Yeah, incomplete past. I think that's I really
think that's a good call.
Speaker 4 (02:37:29):
And again and again, what happens at the higher levels
of football with today's technology, you you you would go
and take a look at it. So, I mean, I
certainly understand Hillsborough's reaction as well.
Speaker 1 (02:37:40):
At the high school level, it just.
Speaker 4 (02:37:41):
Puts so much pressure on the officials because you've got
to make the call in real time, and whatever that
real time calls is is going to stand.
Speaker 3 (02:37:50):
And again, I from our vantage point, I really think
Hammon was stowing the ball forward and again officials let
it play out of us, picked up by Hockstool, and
he ran it down the one yard line.
Speaker 1 (02:38:05):
Well, the balls at the can you have Well, I
guess you can.
Speaker 4 (02:38:09):
I was going, I guess My question is if the
ball was incomplete, can you have that ball fifteen yards down?
That's a dead ball, isn't it? Like that's that's kind
of a weird. I'll be honest, I don't know. Yeah,
I mean like if the play was dead fifteen seconds ago,
then yeah, if the pass was incomplete, it's a dead ball.
Speaker 3 (02:38:28):
There's no return and no ensuing face mask. That's why
the only it's an incomplete pass, so there should be
no penalty. Later on, officials have a discussion and not
really sure. We're down to thirty five seconds.
Speaker 4 (02:38:47):
Miller was going on the go route there but again
the pressure got home. They are going to move it back.
Speaker 1 (02:38:58):
Now. This is the first time I've seen.
Speaker 4 (02:38:59):
Hill roll a deep guy over to give give him
a little help on Millard.
Speaker 3 (02:39:07):
We're moving back to the ten yard line. Officials still
have a lot of discussion. Coach Barty told me he's
out on the other side. He's gonna want an explanation,
and his this question is just while we were talking
about if it was an incomplete pass, which they ruled
it's a dead ball. There's no pickup of the ball
returning ensuing face mask.
Speaker 4 (02:39:34):
The whole play again, I believe he was wanting Miller downfield.
When he realized the pressure was gonna flush him out,
he came out and he was wanting ligging on a
little toss over the top toward the sideline. The arm
was coming forward. That was what's brought this whole debate up. Nonetheless,
it's going to take a huge play because a thirty
five seconds you've got to make sure you're throwing it
(02:39:57):
past the first down marker, which right now lined up
at about second and twenty. So anything underneath it's not
out of bounds, you're gonna have a hard time getting
up on the ball.
Speaker 3 (02:40:09):
Well, now they've talked to coach whore I thought them
you Here comes the head referee back, so they are
going to assess the face mask penalty.
Speaker 4 (02:40:26):
The other thing that's got to be a factor here
is the clock, because if the ball falls incomplete, then
you've got to be able to have some some tning
back on the clock. So there, that's a good job
by the officials there, because again what they're saying is,
you know, obviously when the ball fell short, so you
(02:40:48):
do get the time back, but evidently you still can
have face mask downfield.
Speaker 3 (02:40:53):
Forty four seconds. Here we go, second in a country
mile back of their own ten yard line, calves down
by seven, hamm and back sure rolls to it left,
still got pressure, throws it out to Jan Miller and
one gets out of bounds at to seventeen, pick up
of about seven and stop the clock.
Speaker 4 (02:41:09):
Good job of getting something back. Obviously you're gonna need
a home run at some point here, but you also
just got to get yourself in a position where you
can take a shot downfield, some sort of scoring play.
Speaker 3 (02:41:22):
Well, third down and twelve now out to the seventeen
clock stop. Thirty seven seconds remain in the game twenty
one to fourteen.
Speaker 1 (02:41:31):
Hillsborough.
Speaker 3 (02:41:32):
Hammond back to past pressure, looking runs forward, throws it
into the flat. Lencoln didn't see it, two behind him,
and now fourth down, Cavaliers fourth and twelve. Carte talking
to Andrews, saying thirty two point eight. If the Calves
(02:41:53):
don't make it, all deals world would have to do
is kneel and win this one. Twenty one to fourteen.
More play for the Cavaliers unless they can pick up
twelve yards here. Now Hillsborough's going to call a timeout.
(02:42:14):
Hillsborough calling a time out. Try to make sure they
know what they want to do on fourth down. We're
reminding something like a hooking ladder or some trick play here.
Speaker 4 (02:42:26):
What I have seen all night long is it's been
very difficult to drag Miller across the field on some
underneath routes because there's been so much help there. If
they can protect him long enough, Miller downfield probably be
your best one on one opportunity. They've also had some
success with the tight end down the seam, and then
obviously anything that involves ligging gives him a chance to
(02:42:49):
make a play. But you need twelve to keep the
game alive, and keep in mind if you do make
that that once the chains move, that clock's going to start.
You got to get up on the ball and clocket.
So there's a lot going on here, a lot of
coaching on both sides, a lot of time and score
situations that you have to be aware of.
Speaker 3 (02:43:12):
And Niotto beats Adena thirty five to nothing in the
SBC Payte Valley still trails packed In thirteen to twelve
in the fourth quarter. Seaning trays twenty eight nothing over
us fall in the fourth quart mind, he traced forty
four to three at the half over McClean.
Speaker 1 (02:43:27):
No report further.
Speaker 3 (02:43:28):
On fourth down and twelve, Hammon takes a snap, looks pressure,
POWs it down the left sidelines, tried to get it
to wond Miller overthrows in double coverage and that should
be all. She wrote, Phil's for all they'll have to do.
Speaker 4 (02:43:45):
Had to match up you wanted. Again, he takes his
shot down, Phil, not a lot on fourth and twelve.
Speaker 1 (02:43:50):
You can do other than.
Speaker 4 (02:43:51):
Take a shot, and he just just had a little
bit too much on it falls about five yards out
of reach. And again I had a full effort from
chilicoffee again this week, just going to come up a
possession short.
Speaker 3 (02:44:05):
I'm losing by two. Last week, it was down by
down by seven several through most of the second half
and had the ball three or four times, but again
one of the big plays, a bad snap to put
the vault their own four yard line allowed Hillsborough for
their only touchdown of the second half under center quarterback
(02:44:28):
Dumper calling signals and it goes down to one knee
and that should do it.
Speaker 1 (02:44:35):
Clock.
Speaker 3 (02:44:35):
I'll run down the final twenty five seconds and Cavaliers
with a valiant effort tonight they fall short by seven.
Final from Hillsboro the Indians twenty one, Chilicothe fourteen. Back
with our postgame wrap up after this two minute time
out Cavs coverage in WBX.

Backler postgame wrap up, Good ballgame tonight. The Calves unfortunately
fall to oh and seven zero two in conference play,
but they gave it a battle tonight. Hillsborough took a
quick fourteen to nothing lead. They had a pick six
early in the game, a sixty yard interception return by
Swackhammer to make it seven to nothing. Came back laid
(02:47:18):
on an option play. The pitch to Captain Sophomore went
seventy two yards. It was fourteen to nothing for you
got your breath tonight. But the Calves dug in. Hillsboro
wouldn't score again to the fourth quarter, and that was
only after a bad snap that sent them up at
the four yard line. The Calves fought back kept a
fourteen to nothing and then all of a sudden six
(02:47:38):
twelve to play in the third quarter, Cartelegan broke a
thirty six yard run for a touchdown to make it
fourteen to seven, six twelve re million to third. It
ended that way after three Calves had the ball a
couple times and then back to back bad snaps to
their punter. First time, they recovered and stopped Hillsborough. Second time,
the snap went through the legs all the way to
(02:47:59):
the four yard line. Hillsboro had it set up with
only four yards to go. They were able to score
on a quarterback dumper one yard run and seven thirty
six left in the game. Back up twenty one to seven.
Right back came the Cavaliers again, the outstanding freshman cart
a leg and seventy yard run. He broke through and
once he got into the secondary, he just outran everybody easily.
(02:48:21):
Just under seven minutes. About a minute after Hillsboro scored,
Calves score to make it twenty one to fourteen. Hillsborough
good field position, fumble, Calves turn it over on downs
in their own territory. Hillsboro from the Chillicothe seventeen fumble,
Calves get it again their own seventeen. They go on downs,
Hillsborough went down, Calves blocked their field goal attempt, got
(02:48:43):
to ball back with about forty seconds to go deep
in their own territory, couldn't muster anything, and they fall
by seven twenty one to fourteen.
Speaker 1 (02:48:51):
Chain.
Speaker 4 (02:48:52):
Yeah, looking at the Hillsboro side, not a lot to
report on the On the passing side, they only dropped
back about four or five times. They did throw the
one in that ligand picked a pass off on four down,
So most of the offensive stuff to report.
Speaker 1 (02:49:05):
Hillsborough.
Speaker 4 (02:49:05):
They had six different ball carriers rush at thirty three
times for one seventy seven. Keep in mind there at
about one thirty eight in the first half. So Chillicothe
defense really up to the challenge throughout the night outside
of that one big TV run way back in the in.
Speaker 1 (02:49:19):
The first quarter.
Speaker 4 (02:49:21):
Really really highlight on the Chillicothe defensive side. You called
it well all night there, Rag We had the Nate
Sissam up front Anthony Smith. I thought Cam Badger was outstanding.
I thought Trace McCallister was really good, Tru McLoone flying
to the football, and then Canaan Smith continues to get
better and better. I thought he was involved in some
of the fumbles, some of the special teams plays as well.
(02:49:42):
I'd also highlight Andrew Brown there just outstanding job. If
you go over to the offensive side. Quarterback Andrew Hammond,
the sophomore, threw at twenty nine times up around ninety yards.
He rushed at nine times for twenty six He did
have the interception, but I thought throughout the night he
competed pretty made some good plays. He threw it to
(02:50:02):
a five different cavaliers Miller, lig and Hitchins, Sism and
Henson all involved in pass catching for the Calves to night.
But then on the offensive side, give give a shout
out to the offensive line and the job that they
did for what I'm about ready to read to you.
But unofficially, I've got Carte Liggan twenty three carries, two
hundred four yards and two touchdowns. And again we'll even
(02:50:26):
see how Chilicothe decides to score because a couple of
those balls flipped forward would involve him catching the ball
four times for twenty four yards. We'll see how they
officially put the yardage together, but you throw in the
punt return and a couple other different things, and I've
unofficially got Carte Liggan pushing about two hundred and seventy
all purpose yards tonight too, So just special special talent.
(02:50:49):
But again I want to emphasize shout out to the
offensive line because the return we mentioned last week of
Cole Crawford that they've been playing without, and the several
other guys up front there just doing a great great
job of opening those holes. And then obviously the special
back is the type of guy that can take what
should be a five to six to seven yard game
and turn it into the seventy yard touchdown to thirty
(02:51:09):
six yard touchdown and so forth. So that's a pretty
good rap statistically on tonight's game.
Speaker 3 (02:51:16):
So Carte legan another big night and certainly I think
a proposed shout out Shane gave to the offensive line.
Certainly some holes inside and legan again two over two
hundred yards rushing at one big pumm return. He had
an interception, but all in all, we won't make it
all about just the Cartes special talent. You got to
recognize that. But the Cavs all in all again a
(02:51:37):
couple of bad snaps on a punt and one big
seventy two yard run. Other than you know, they really
had a good game tonight. But that's a part of it.
That's a part of the game. You got to play
complete game, special teams included, and they fall twenty one
to fourteen here at Hillsborough. Thanks to Nathan toodle back
in the studios, all of our great sponsors.
Speaker 1 (02:51:56):
Don't forget.
Speaker 3 (02:51:56):

(02:52:17):
