Speaker 1 (00:04):
My name is Victor Furman. Some call me the Voice.
I've always been fascinated with human nature, spirituality, science and
the crossroads at which they meet. Join me now and
we will explore these topics and so much more with
fascinating guests, authors and experts who will guide us to
(00:28):
Destination Unlimited. What had begun as an idea for a
new deck has emerged as a way of seeing Taro
through a different lens. This new system redefines the relationship
between the major and minor arcana of the Tarot deck,
(00:50):
casting them in quite a new light. Is there a
hidden code in Tarot that shows you how to create
a rich, loving, and abundant life experience. My guest this
week on Destination Unlimited, Janis King, has been working with
Tarot professionally for nearly two decades. She's the face of
(01:10):
Tarot Reading London and has demonstrated her remarkable skills on
Channel four UK TV, as well as appearances on spiritual
podcasts in both the UK and the United States. Her
website is Janis King dot UK and she joins me
this week to share her path and just published book,
(01:32):
Taro The Life Code. A Fool, a magician and the
Secret of Life. Please join me in welcoming to Destination Unlimited.
Janie King, Welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Janis, Hello Victor. Lovely to meet you, and.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Lovely to meet you also, Janis, Please share your path
with us and how it led to your tarot practice.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Well, my my path was quite problematic because in retrospect,
what I think was happening, it was a bit like
the you know, the hero that refuses the call. So
I was a really hard sell and I was I
was very determined from quite a young age that I
(02:19):
was not going to go into anything esoteric. I went
to I had an aunt who used to read catamancy,
which is playing cards, so we were very familiar in
our house with talking to dead people and all things esoteric.
It was not anything that was a strange thing for us.
(02:39):
I went to a spiritualist meeting with my mother when
my grandmother died and got pulled into a you know,
holding somebody's personal you know, I think it was a ring,
and then just saying stuff and apparently got pulled to
(03:01):
I got pulled to one side after that and told
I should go into development, which I refused, and so
I don't know, I kind of backed away from the
whole thing. I was a musician. I wanted to be
a musician. I didn't want to be anything else. So
that was that, and then I got really interested. Before
(03:22):
manifestation was even termed manifestation, back when we had cassette
tapes as the norm, I was given a cassette tape
of a meditation manifestation technique called the Pink Bubble. I
didn't know what it was. I had no experience of
this side of things at all. The person just gave
(03:43):
it to me said do what it says on the
tape and see what happens. And it blew my mind
a bit. So that really started me on a journey
of being really interested in energy and how much control
we have in our our lives, you know, with what
is unseen to us. So that started me on the journey.
(04:07):
How I came to Taro was in response to an
energetic request. So this was my grand experiment. I was
going to put all my calling towers powers to to
you know. I was going to test it. And I
started a business, a record company called Angelic and Angelic Music,
(04:33):
and it was the UK's first all girl label. And
I had a logo on my office wall It was
a huge thing, and every day I would go in
and I would say, give me what I need to
make everything all right, because behind the scenes we're really
struggling financially, as do all little record companies. My husband's
(04:58):
also a musician, so this was very much a labor
of love for us. And the whole thing went like
a forest fire. It was unbelievable, and I ended up
being asked to manage as a result of what happened.
I got asked to manage the daughter of a national
British celebrity and.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
That all.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
I was amazed, and I just felt like everything synchronicity
wise just fell into place. It was almost like, you know,
just bits dropping. It was fantastic. I was like, whoa,
I felt like the Sorcerer's apprentice until it fell. And
it fell. It went from eighteen months and it was amazing,
(05:45):
and I was literally in meetings with Universal Records and
Virgin we were going into a bidding war for the artist. Anyway,
everything fell within eight hours. The artist proved herself to
be mentally unstable, and other things also collapsed, just like
(06:12):
it was like somebody just went all the plug and
the whole thing just just completely crumbled. It was it
was like watching the towers come down. It was like
you couldn't I couldn't believe it. It was like, what
the hell was just destruction everywhere, and I was I
was just completely flawed. My marriage went, house went, everything went,
(06:35):
and I was let I think I probably had a breakdown.
It was a proper dark night of the soul. And
I was furious, victor furious. I felt like I'd been duped.
And I had been trying all of this time to
reach my spirit guides because I knew I should have
(06:58):
them h and they were very silent, and I wasn't
able to feel that I had any contact with these
guides at all. I was meditating all the time, but
unable to get any sense of connection with them. Until
one day I had a little boy show up who
(07:20):
came and sat beside me on a on a park bench,
and he had run out of some woods and he
ran up and sat beside me, and I could see
him as he was a real boy. I mean I
could describe him to you. If he ran to I
would recognize him. He was that clear. And he handed
me a white stone egg with a white bird sleeping
carved into it and I took this egg. It was
(07:44):
like being in a in a movie or a very
vivid dream. And and I looked at this and said, oh,
it's it's a white dove. And the little boy nodded
his head vigorously and then run away.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
I had asked him if he was a guide, and
he shook his head nerve he wasn't a guy. I
didn't speak, but he shook his head. So I was
amused by I had no idea what was going on,
or what this was for, or what this gift meant.
And then it went quiet again, as it seemed to
always do. And then about three weeks later, I was
(08:19):
up in Camden Market in London and there was a
shop that said Tarror Readings in the window, and I thought, well,
you know I need something, some answers, and so I thought, well,
maybe I'll go and investigate, perhaps a terror reading. And
as I walked in, the man behind the desk there
(08:40):
was another guy in the back dressed in white with
long white hair, reading taro. And the guy behind the
desk said, yes, yes, well you'll need to speak to
white Dove. And I'm like, oh what, And so of
course I had to speak to White Dove, and White
(09:01):
Dove did a reading for me that told me that
I had opened Pandora's box with my request give me
what I need, because I had shortened it to give
me what I need. And he said I was being
moved to a new path and the next three years
we're going to be pretty gruesome. But they were going
to be angels, both human and energetic, walking the path
(09:24):
with me. And I said, I refuse, absolutely, I don't
want a new path. When I said make it all right,
I meant make my life as it is all right.
I didn't. I didn't envisage you taking a wrecking ball
to my entire existence. Anyway. He said, well, that ship
(09:45):
has now sailed, and the path that you were on
is now close to you, and the path that you're
going to be on will you'll find it, but not yet.
And also you should know that your husband has unconditional
love for you, and that is not important at the moment,
but it will be. So I was fascinated by this
(10:07):
whole thing. So of course, Victor, what did I have
to do? I had to find out more about Taro,
and here we are, Here we are.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
And I also understand that you studied spiritual trans mediumship
at the distinguished Arthur Finley College in Stanstead and also
Advanced Mediumship at the College of Psychic Studies in London.
What was that experience like.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yes, yes, well the really big transformative experience was at
Arthur Finley and that was where the Life Code book,
That's where that came from, and the accompanying deck and
that all came from that. So I didn't have an
(10:52):
experience of trans mediumship, which is where you allow an
energetic presences whatever it is, to speak through you, so
you will allow them access to your body and your
voice and you let them, you let them embody you,
and it's a very bizarre thing. I didn't have any
(11:12):
experience of this, so oddly at that time again, there
was another mini meltdown, so my husband had he suffer
has some mental health problems with bipolar and he had
a very bad episode and took himself off and there
(11:34):
was this whole weird thing where everybody just sort of
left and I ended up again completely isolated, which happened
the first time as well, And it was because of
that isolation that I ended up at Arthur Finley and
just I'll be honest with you as something to do.
(11:55):
In fact, a friend of mine who had been holiday
to Bali had met with a guy in Bali who
has said to her, have you ever been to Arthur Finley?
She said no, And she said to me, because she
was the only one that was sort of there, and
she said, why don't we book the first available course
at Arthur Finley and go straight after Christmas and just
(12:16):
do it. What's the first available course trans Mediumship? I said,
what exactly is trans Mediumship? Said, I don't know. Let's
book it anyway. So we did. And I was not
prepared to I didn't know if I could do it
or not. I was not prepared to fake it. I thought,
(12:37):
if I can't do it, I'm going to be really
honest about that. And the first three days of the
course I just felt I was getting nowhere. I just
I didn't feel like I was having the experience that
I was perhaps supposed to be having. And I thought, well,
I'm obviously the odd one out in the class. But
I was honest with the tutor about what was happening,
(12:59):
and I said, look, I'm really sorry it's not working
for me. I'm just not I'm not feeling it. So
she said, okay, so what we're going to do tomorrow
is we're going to take a step back. The whole
class is going to take a step back then, and
I'm going to ask Spirit if they would sort of
give you a bit of a demonstration as to how
(13:20):
it feels. So I said, okay, well that's great, and
let's hope this works. So there's about fifteen of us
in the class. And when my time came, you take
yourself down into into a light chance. And she said, okay,
so I have I have somebody, I have a spirit
with you standing behind you. And I felt like static
electricity just go. The entire back of my body was
(13:44):
just tingling with static electricity, and and so she sort
of stayed quiet, and then she said, okay, Spirit, step forward.
And I have never felt anything so bizarre in my
entire life, because whatever it was broke the boundary of
my physical body and entered myself from behind. It literally
(14:10):
stepped into me, and it's like you go, oh, okay,
And then I got flooded with the most incredible love
that I have could ever describe. It was so fundamental
(14:32):
and all embracing or all encompassing and my first thought was, well,
this is weird because I don't know who you were.
So it was that pure moment where you go, no,
that can't be real because you don't know me. How
could that be? How could this amount of And then
(14:53):
I told myself to shut up, Victor, and I did
shut up, and I just allowed because it was just phenomenal.
And then after a while, the tutor said, Okay, the
spirit stepped back, and I thought, actually, we're fine over here.
Whoever this isn't we could just leave us here and
(15:14):
get on with the rest of the class. I'll be fine.
But then I then I felt the reverse. I felt
whatever it was step out it. It's that sort of feeling.
You could almost feel the sucking thing as it stepped
out of out of my body. And the tutor said
(15:34):
to me when I opened my eye, she said, Janice,
now tell me you didn't feel that. Okay, I think
I did. That. It was transformational. And then what happened
after that was I suddenly everything sort of got a
bit taken over. So I got an instruction to write
(15:59):
a book. I thought I was in the bath. It
was a very loud voice. It shouted in my ear
and I got very fired up, and and and so
the Life Code deck appeared. All of the ways of
looking at the systems of Tarot shifted and rearranged. Sometimes
(16:23):
my brain felt like it was being fried. It was
that intense. And it went on for months, and more
and more layers appeared, and more and more layers appeared,
and again with the synchronicities, things happened which which allowed
the process to continue in the way that it had to.
And so it was. It was a really quite yeah,
(16:51):
it was. It was a transformational experience that had long
reaching implications.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
And your new book is called Taro, The Life Code,
a Fool, a Magician, and the Secret of Life. How
does that book differ from other Tarot books.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Well, this is not a book that you pick up
to look up card meanings. It's not that kind of
a book. The card meanings are in there, but not
in list forms, so they're all in context. And the
book shows you. Taro almost does a recipe. In the book,
I talk about the making a cake of life and
(17:30):
Taro giving you the ingredients you need in the quantities
you need them to create the tenor pentacles, which is
this long term sustainable financially financially comfortable life. But it's
to your design, so it shows you Taro is a
(17:52):
map of how to do life, and all of the
cards are put in the context of them to each other,
of the stories that run through Taro, which is how
we connect to Taro. So it very much is is
there is a little bit of a self help element
in there, because that's what Taro is. Taro, I believe,
(18:16):
is a message from the universal spirit world to us.
It is a message that they have attempted to deliver
many times, and Taro has become the delivery system for
that message. And it is a very beautiful and wonderful message.
But it is the It's like a Bible, if you will,
(18:39):
except it's a bible that is entirely interactive and with
whom you're can have a conversation. So it just took
what we know already about Taro and elevated it to
one stage up.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
And as you touched about you say that Taro itself
is a coded message from Spirit to us, an instruction
man will and how to live and enjoy a successful life.
What may we find within this coded message?
Speaker 2 (19:08):
You'll find all of your life stories. So the first
thing we do when we look at this is we
we apply the stories to ourselves. And when we do that,
we don't have to learn cards individually. That's not how
that's not the best way to approach Terara. What we
do is we look at the cards in context streams.
(19:31):
So the ace to the ten will tell you a story.
It will tell you the story of your of your
of your love and connection life, your emotional life, the
way you connect to other people who you have connected
to in your life, how that works. It will give
you the story of how you use your will, how
confident you are. It will give you the story of
(19:53):
your mind and how you navigate, how you solve problems,
how objective you are. And then it tell you that
when you use all of these things in the right way,
you create an abundant experience for yourself, which is the
suit of pentacles. And so it gives you this, It
(20:14):
gives you this system where you examine and see yourself
as a mirror first and then you go, Okay, I
see what I see. What do I want to change? Now?
What do I want to do? Now? How do I
want to maybe navigate differently? Now I've seen this bit,
(20:34):
I can see what I did. I can see what happened. Okay,
I think I need to do things a bit differently,
and then it will give you the instruction manual as
how to do that.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
And you call that a map of how to do life?
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
And it's literally like that. It is a map that
you can open and see how to do your life.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Yes. And in the book we have we have spreads
in the book and are spread in tarots where you
lay the cards out in a certain order. Now, in
this version of the tarot spread, you only ever choose
one card, and the one card is I am here.
Because if you're going to use a map, victor, you
have to know where you are, don't you. If you
need to find where you're going, you need to find
(21:21):
where you're coming from. So your I am here card
then allows the tarot system itself to unfold around that card. So,
and the book shows you how to do this and
that unfolding. The cards that are around that are the
(21:42):
tarot system itself. So if you choose a six, the
two cards that go behind are the five and the four.
The two cards that go in front are the seven
and the eight. That tells you where you've come from
it tells you your next two challenges, the next two
things you have to you know, get to grips with
or you're going to have to confront. And then we
(22:06):
have a royal card which tells you the energy in
which to do this.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
And then we have them and we're going to touch
more upon these in the next segment that we have.
My guest is Janis King. Her book is called Tarot
the Life Code, A Fool, a Magician and the Secret
of Life. Janis, please share with our listeners where they

Speaker 1 (24:02):
O back on Destination Unlimited. My guest this week is
Janie King. We're talking about her new book Tarot, The
Life Code, A Fool, a Magician and the Secret of Life. Janie,
I am not a Tarot person. I'm not very familiar
with many of the terms. So we're gonna do a
little bit of ABC's of Terror right now. In Tarot,
(24:25):
we hear about minor and major arcana. What are they
and how do they differ.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Okay, So the major Ocana they would be the big
spiritual coaches, So they are the they are the sort
of the instruction manual part of it. So when we
talk about, you know the map of the instruction manual,
that's the Major O'Connor, and you would recognize those because
(24:53):
they're the big rock star cards. You have the full,
you have the lovers, you have death, you have the
hanged Man, the ones that you'll find in you know,
the James Bond movie or horror films habitually, so they're
they're they're the famous cars. And then we have the
minor Racana. There's twenty two by the way, Major o'cana cars.
(25:16):
And then we have the minor racana and they are
us doing life. So they represent the US boots on
the ground doing doing the hard yards. And inherent within
those they is the four parts of us. So our emotions,
our will, our mind, and our life experience and how
(25:40):
rich that feels. And and so those two segments in
my system are inextricably linked. In the traditional tarot deck,
they appear more separate. However, in my system, I'm I
show how the major kana is instructing directly on the
(26:03):
four suits, because the four suits are it's the earth elements, water, fire, air,
and earth. And so each of the major racana realms,
other than the Fall and the Magician, each of the
realms instructs directly on the four suits in the minor racana.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
So let's look at some of the representative cards, starting
with the Fool and the Magician. What are the properties
of these cards and how are they similar?
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Yes, well, they add two sides of the same coin victor.
So the Fall and the Magician represent us, and when
we see them like that, they start to make a
fantastic sense. So part of the premise of the way
I work is everything is energy. It's unbelievably important because
(26:56):
it's fundamentally true both in life but also in real life.
Everything is in fact energy. So the Fall represents potential energy,
and potential energy is energy which is unaffected by its environment.
It exists just literally in potential form. Nothing is happening,
(27:18):
there are no guarantees, it is just the potential. And
then in Tarot, in the Tarot story, once the full jumps,
once he leaps, he then lands and becomes the magician,
and the magician is kinetic energy that's energy in motion,
energy that is affected now by its environment. And the
(27:41):
magician's job is to bring the potential to life and
to what to decide which potential is to bring to life,
and to master those potentials to make what he wants
to happen happen. So are they are two sides of
the same coin, and they are us being creative in
(28:03):
our real, everyday life. Because one of the things I'm
incredibly passionate about is making Taro makes sense the in
real life and not just existing in a theoretical tarot
world where it's sort of just a is a whole
heap of fairy stories.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
So it's interesting that in your example the fool really
isn't the fool, but someone who is on the verge
of a discovery.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Yes, yes, absolutely, And the fall is normally shown in
traditional decks. Are standing on the edge of a cliff,
and he has a little white dog barking at him,
warning him, and he has again traditionally a little knotted
handkerchief on a stick over his shoulder, and the story
goes within that knotted handkerchief, he carries the four gifts
(28:53):
of God, which are the four suits, which are the
four potentials and he doesn't. But he doesn't they're there.
This doesn't really work for me as a real life
story because why would he carry a not his hankerchief
full of things he doesn't know what they are. I
really this is my pennickete brain, Victor. I like, if
(29:14):
you're going to tell me a story, I want I
want it to hold some water. So in my deck,
I've made the Fall with the energy inherent within him
as yet unexplored. So when a baby is born, it
has all of its potentials already within its DNA, already.
Nature versus nurture is a different matter. Nurture is the
(29:38):
kinetic part that then that then you maybe somebody has
a wonderful singing voice but decides to go and be
a lawyer. So they you decide what your gifts, what
your potentials are, and which ones you want to bring
to life. So the Fall is the blank canvas, if
(29:59):
you like, of of energy. He's the fall because he
is both everything and nothing at the same time. He's
innocent of knowledge, but he contains everything. But he contains
everything within him.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
And when he brings forth that knowledge, he becomes the magician.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Yes, yes, that's right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Please tell us about the relationship between cups and pentacles
and wands and swords.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Yes, well, the four Earth energies are the components of us,
and so they represent all of the Earth's major's oldest
spiritual religions are based upon Earth energies and they are inherent.
They run through humanity's history like a river. So we
(30:55):
are also made up of water, of air, of fire,
and the earth. So we are constructed of that both
figuratively and physically. So in Taro, water represents our emotion
and our feelings and the way we connect. Now, water
(31:16):
is our we see that as being our fuel, so
it's sort of liquid, right, And what we think about water,
water is a conductor of electricity. So when we look
at the suit of cups and our feelings and emotions
and our connection, our ability to connect both to each
(31:36):
other and to spirit, the water part connects us. Our
feelings connect us, They connect us to the energetic world.
They connect us to each other. So like water and
electricity within us, that's the symbolic connective conductor if you like.
And then we get to one's ones is fire. So
(32:00):
once puts a spark to the fuel because you can
have a can of fuel in your garage to just
sit there, right. You can have a feeling and nothing
will happen. But you put urge and desire and confidence
to that, and you've got an engine on your hands.
You can go places, you can do things, you can
make things happen. It's our sexuality because it's primal urge.
(32:24):
Now that's great. And our will is a big, uncontrollable monster.
Really we need it, but it's hard to control. Just
like fire, we get burnt out, we run out of steam,
we get all fired up, right, so when we get
an inspiration ideal, it's like a struck match. So it's
(32:48):
a wonderful analogy for the way we use our will.
It's how we are creative in life. But it's very
hard to control. Is it ego or is it confidence?
So we need a control system because ego and will
out of control does nobody any good. So we need
to control it. And for that we need a navigation system,
(33:11):
and we need as in a car, we need gears
and brakes and the steering wheel and warning signs. So
for that we have the suit of swords, and the
suit of swords tells us when we're not using our
mind to the best effect. And it warns us when
we're going into drama, and it warns us when our
(33:32):
thinking is not constructive enough, and it warns us when
we're about to think in a way which is going
to cause us big problems down the line. So we
put all of those elements together and then we create
the experience detailed in the Suit of Pentacles. Pentacles is
(33:52):
of the Earth, so it's real life on the Earth.
It's much more slow moving. Again, it's earth, so it's
not fast like fire or air. So we are on
the ground, boots on the ground, doing it for real,
trying to create a life that makes us happy and
secure and is sustainable, and that has to be to
(34:16):
our own design. And suit Appentacles is the result of
our use of the other three suits, and they create
what is our experience on Earth. And that is how
I normally explain the four suits of.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
Tarot and swords in my mind and my estimation. When
I think of swords, I think of initiations and also protection.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Yes, swords do protect us, but of course they're double edged.
They can be used for good or for ill. So
for swords, what we do is we cut through the weeds.
We use them to defend ourselves, of course, but we
misuse them wisely, because if we use them in anger,
or we use them in an ill advised way, we
(35:03):
can do more damage than good.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
We have to.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Band, we have to understand how to use them, and
we have to gain experience in that. And in Tarot,
swords is very much a warning system because most of
the time we use our mind, we communicate, we go
about our life, and our mind operates on an automatic pilot.
(35:29):
Swords in Tarot is about telling us that we're going
off track with our thinking. Perhaps we are overthinking. When
we have too many thoughts and we allow our minds
to try and make all our decisions for us, we
end up really not in a good place. So Taro
tells us that we need a balance between our intuitive
(35:51):
self and our feeling self and our logical self. And
we have to be able to use our minds logically
and objectively, but we can't use them in isolation. So
it has to be the right balance.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Absolutely. What are the court cards and how do they
reflect our ability to be creators within our own lives?
Speaker 2 (36:16):
So the court cards referred there are There are four
court cards to each suit. We have a page, a knight,
a queen, and a king, and they talk about how
we approach the energy that's going on around us all
or what we're doing at the time. So pages talk
about our students. Pages are learning, aren't they They're the
(36:40):
young energy, young and experienced energy. So they are going
to be exploring and learning about possibilities again, about potential.
They're going to be learning about potential and figuring out
whether this is something that indeed we should be doing.
So in each suit they have a different job, but
(37:00):
it is really about us really being investigative about our possibilities.
So that's the page. Pages want to be nights. They
are aspirational nights, so they are learning and training and
researching in order for them to take action. So before
you take action, you need to learn, you need to
perhaps do a little bit of research. You need to
(37:22):
be curious, curious and future focused. So then when we
become a night, when we embrace night energy, we are
now on a mission. We've done our necessary research and
now we're going to do something. And again, depending on
which suit we're in, the action we take will be
in alignment with our goal within the suit and then
(37:45):
as we take something and we do it. Once we've
done it, we change victor we assimilate some information by
the act of doing so, we learn. And so when
we get to be a queen, because the knight serves
the queen, when the knight has done his stuff, he
(38:06):
gives it to the queen, the queen assimilates it and
becomes it. And as the queen embodies the energy, she
enables the process. Because we cannot manifest what we don't
have within us. We have to have fertile ground within us.
But for what we want to manifest, or it isn't
(38:28):
possible for it to really grow and develop. The potential,
which is the seed needs filtail ground in which to grow,
and the queen is the ground in which that seed
grows because she is obviously the female archetype, so she
enables the process and the seed then takes root, the
(38:50):
seed grows, and then we move into king energy, which
is mastery of the energy. And now we can have
influence over our environment, influence over our resources, and we
can take control of our world in whichever suit we're in.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
And you had talked about the magician before. What is
the magician trying to manifest.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
The magician is trying to manifest, or the magician's goal
is to become a king in each energy. All of
this whole process is to create a happy, abundant, sustainable life.
The life, if you're choosing it, doesn't have to be
in somebody else's life. So rich life. For a poet
(39:41):
who wants to go and live on a hillside in Greece,
he might feel that here's the richest man in the world,
and yet a billionaire who is living in a fifteen
billion pound mansion may still feel he doesn't have enough.
So we want to be living a life where we
feel on our terms, that we are living a life
(40:03):
that is meaningful to us and makes us feel that
we're living on our own terms, and creating what we
want to create has to be authentic and right for us.
And we build this on what's known in terror as
the ten of Cups, the cups being our feeling in
(40:24):
emotional it's all in the name of us building a happy, connected,
emotional life, and the ten is the maximum expression of that.
Where we are happy and connected, we are surrounded by
people that we love and that love us, and we
build on that basis. We build on the basis of love,
(40:44):
and we create this abundance sustainable life, which is the
Ten of Pentacles, on the basis of the love that
we have that we have at the base of everything.
If you try to build the ten of Pentacle's life
just on its own, without the ten of the Cups,
(41:05):
which is the happy, connected, sustainable base, you'll have a
dry and rather meaningless experience. So the job of the
magician is to is to create that and everything. Because
I am of the opinion everybody is filled with desire
to be happy. Everything we do is based on the
(41:28):
desire for happiness, or at least not to be less happy,
even if we don't believe we have it within us
to be truly happy, which is a shame. I would
like to have a conversation with that person. But ideally
they don't want to be less happy. So everything they do,
(41:48):
everything they think, even a lawyer who is very, very
cerebral and very maybe you know, not focused on any
emotional input, will be doing that because they feel within themselves,
they know they feel that's the right thing to do,
and to do in a different way would make them
(42:08):
very unhappy. So we are fueled by this desire for
happiness on whatever terms and in whatever context that might
be referring to. We don't want to make it simplistic,
but the desire for happiness is what fuels us all
and that's what the magician is trying to bring to
life through through the medium of this story.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
Wonderful. My guest is Janis King her book Taro The
Life Code. We'll be back with more after these words

(43:38):
eleven a m. Eastern on Old Times Radio back on
Destination Unlimited. My guest this week is Janis King her
new book Taro, The Life Code, A Fool, a Magician
and the Secret of Life. Janie, you share that pentacles
(43:58):
are like adding me maes, they add things up? How
do they do that?
Speaker 2 (44:05):
While they are the some of us, Victor, Well, they're
more than that. I mean, if we think about pentacles
and how we see pentacles, it's often seen as the
magical symbol, right, And I was I've always been quite
amused at the fact that we have because the four
(44:25):
suits connecting to the standard issue playing cards. Right, we
have hearts, don't we, which of course is in motion.
We have clubs, which is in Taro ones is often
shown as a large bit of a large stick like
a club literally, and then we have swords, which are
what they say, and then we have pentacles. So I
(44:50):
was thinking when I first started reading, I thought, why
is a pentacle a diamond? Because it's the treasure of
the earth, isn't it. It is in fact current see, so
it's what we trade with and so we experience, which
is what I think Pentacles is is the sum of
(45:10):
everything we do and all of us. So everything that
we are, everything we think, everything we feel, everything we
every act we take creates an experience, and so Pentacles
is detailing all of that and telling us what experience
it is we're creating at the moment with our use
(45:32):
of the other three suits. So and what it also does,
because it's Pentacles, is of course it does something slightly magical.
Is it also connects us into It connects Earth and
a quintessence because quintessence, of course is the fifth suit,
(45:55):
and that would be the energetic world. So it connects
us back circular manner. It is a circle. It connects
us back to the energetic world. So if our emotions
are connecting into spirit via our intuition and creating ahead
of us on the path, the Pentacles connects the energetic
(46:16):
world directly into us and our life experience. And so
it just brings the whole thing around in a circle.
And that's what we see when we look at the
Pentacles sign. So it's it's the connective element. And I
think it's once we see it like that, it starts
to make more sense I hope, what is.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
The goal of major arcana in developing our paths.
Speaker 2 (46:46):
To help us understand ourselves better? Because the edict know
thyself is absolutely one hundred fundamental in all of this,
and the major akana show us and coach us through
(47:08):
all of life's all of life's elements if you like.
So the first five cards taking the Fallen the Magician
out okay, because they are the characters in play, from
the High Priestess to the Lovers. They tell us about
(47:29):
our early years experience. They talk about when we're first born,
the mother energy and the symbolic father energy, what that means.
It talks about the effect on our emotional world, on
the culture, religion, religious thinking, which doesn't have to necessarily
mean religion, and the culture in which we live, and
(47:52):
our need to fit in or not, and the decisions
and how that influences us. And then that leads us
to the lovers, which it tells us we must connect
with love and we must connect to what we think
will make us happy for the right reasons. So that
section is coaching us on the bedrock of our own
(48:16):
emotional experiences. It talks about the bit that we have
no control over and what leads us to make the
decisions we do in the Lovers, because that's not all
of our making initially. Then the next bit, from the
Chariot to Justice talks about how we use our will
(48:40):
and how we implement our will in the world, and
it talks about the elements that we need to understand
in order to use our will effectively. And then the
next section, which is the advanced section, which is the
challenging section, which is the Handman to the Tower, talks
about how we deal with channel and loss and how
(49:02):
we remake our world when it all falls apart in
fine fashion, and it talks about specifically how we use
our minds in that landscape. And then the final section,
which is from the Star to the World, talks about
(49:25):
the five experiences we must have if we're going to
create a successful life. And that took me by surprise
because it was a slightly different take than the other three,
but it does indeed type it detail these experiences which
(49:46):
are necessary for us to experience if we're going to
create a successful life, and that is the final five
cards of the major Racana. So it's very much a
guidance system for every part of us and our life lives,
and if you run your life through the major racana,
you can tell your own story in quite a lot
(50:06):
of detail, and that will that's often quite an eye
opener for people. Their story is just there in front
of them.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Assuming I know nothing about taroll, but I'm interested in
learning and studying the art and practice. How would you
suggest I begin.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
Well, I suggest you begin by talking to me, Victor
invited to take you by the hand and show you
the wonders that that learning tarot can bring to your
life as philosophy as well as being a spiritual system.
(50:49):
I think what's really important is to get a deck.
I think what's more important, Victor, is what you shouldn't do.
And what you shouldn't do is to go on YouTube
and look at somebody drawing repeated cards and just mumbling
vague meanings and and you know, consider your source, is
(51:11):
what I would say, So I would, I would work
with somebody respected. I would take that very seriously. And
you know, start off with a book by all means,
but don't get stuck in it, because a book is
not ultimately the most effective way of learning. It could
(51:32):
culiarize yourself broadly, but it is better to work with
the teacher that.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
You know and trust, and of course the book. If
the book is Tyrol the Life Code, that's an excellent
book to start with.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
Well, it is now the only thing I would say
that if you're a complete beginner, I think it's good.
I think it's very good to read it. It may
be a little overwhelming as the book goes on because
it is talking about it's not talking about Taro from
a from a starting standpoint, I think you would perhaps
(52:09):
need a little bit of handholding through that to just
to just to stop yourself going because a lot, it's
a lot, but it is a very interesting read, if
you know, just for somebody even who doesn't know anything
about Taro. But obviously because I'm referencing cards and what
they mean, it's it's quite good to have a little
(52:31):
bit of prior knowledge just to just to you know,
just to sort of be able to navigate through. Certainly,
the first part of the book is totally accessible to everybody.
It just gets a little bit more advances it gets towards.
Speaker 1 (52:44):
The end you share that you're passionate about bringing Taro
into a more mainstream conversation about spirituality, one that moves
beyond predictions, what would you like it to reflect.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
I would like us to use it as a tool
for life, and Victor, we, of course we use it
for predictions in some capacity because Taro gives us the
ability to be able to look down the timeline, and
it does that extremely accurately. It can also look back
(53:23):
on the timeline, and it can look under the surface
at the present to see what's going on that you
also can't see. Now. It's just a bit of a superpower.
And when we use it wisely, and we use it
to empower ourselves properly, so rather than and look, we've
all done it right. Rather than asking, you know, will
(53:44):
my boyfriend come back, which is the classic Tarot question,
And you know, I'm not saying that in any disrespectful
way because that is a question that causes a lot
of pain. Let's for interesting questions. Let's ask what is
the guidance around this relationship, What is the potential for
happiness that this relationship might offer should this person come back,
(54:07):
and what should the person do for the best effect
for their life? What next step can they take that
is going to support them and lead them to the
happy future that they absolutely desperately want. So when we
question intelligently, we then get answers that start to make
(54:32):
a real difference. Was what we just asked, will my
boyfriend come back? That's giving us no information at all, none.
Speaker 1 (54:41):
