I'm Heatherbrooker. This week it is all about The devilwaars
Prada Too. This is a movie a lot of people
have been looking forward to, and from what I'm seeing online,
the reviews are a little bit mixed. Some people absolutely
love it and some people are like, I don't know,

I think it could have been better. I'm sort of
in that second camp, if I'm being honest, because I
think I wanted so much more. I have so many
fond memories of watching The devilwaars Prada. It is my
go to rewatch movie and this for me, fell just
a little bit short. And that's okay. You know what.

their own opinions. And I got the chance to talk
about devilwaars Prada Too with Gary and Channon on our
weekly Entertainment Report. We're also going to talk about the
new Andy Sirkis directed film called Animal Farm, based on
the classic George or Well book, and we're going to
take a look at the new trailer that just dropped

another one ended on such a cliffhanger that first one.

I fear like the last time we spoke, I talked

that all the good parts in there are in the trailer,
and I also, in connection with that, feel like it
doesn't matter that the first one had enough goodwill and
good feelings that it'll get me through this one, even
if it's not a cinematic treasure.

I think that You're pretty right on in thinking that
I have such love, like a lot of people do
for the first Devilware's Product movie, and it was really
just nice seeing these characters that we've been watching for
twenty years in our home back on the big screen again. Yeah,
there are definitely those moments of the fashion montage where
you're like, ooh, gorgeous, gorgeous. Miranda Priestley is back with

her sassy, usual self. But I will say this movie
for me did not have nearly the heart of the
first movie. Okay, so in the first movie, Andy who is?
She is a young writer, She is trying to find
her place in the world, figuring out who she is.

And Hathaway, yeah as a writer, as a person, and
this movie is not so much about Andy finding her place.
It is about capitalism and corporate greed.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yuck, yuck, yuck.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
It's preachy, say it's preachy. But yes, there are definitely
elements where you're like, oh, I get it. I mean
your movie starts with, you know, massive layoffs at a
massive media corporation.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
You're so right about the first movie.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
And people knock Anne Hathaway, but she's got this real
gift of character development. Of making you buy in on
whatever character development she is selling.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
She's really good at that.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
This felt like they did not evolve her character whatsoever.
Like here we are twenty years later, she's been twenty
years being a hard heading journalist, and she's now been
laid off. I'm spoilers everybody. She is laid off. It
happens in the first like minute of the movie, so
it's not like a huge surprise, and has to go
back to Runway and work again with Miranda, who is

in sort of an Anna Win Tour type character. And
when she does that, there doesn't seem to be any
growth or evolution. Like, think about how different you were
twenty years ago. You've probably you know, changed quite a bit,
and how you act at work, how you treat people,
and the things that you will put up with. The
fact that she's still twenty years later, after being like
(05:43):
an international correspondent working for major publications and you know,
hard hitting journalists, still lets Miranda talk to her that
way and treat her the way she does is a
little unbelievable in that regard. I will say some of
the truly delightful moments for me were between Nigel and
Miranda which is Stanley Tucci and Meryl Street.

I love him and I love the character.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Yes, oh you'll love You'll love his presence in this movie,
and his storyline is great. Oh good, that's that makes
me happy. That'll make And there are some there are
moments towards the end where I actually teared up a
little bit because of those the special characters. Those two
special characters in particular. The rest of the beats of
(06:29):
the movie are a little all over the place. There's
like a Jeff Bezos type of character that's coming in
and buying things up and then somebody out buys him,
and uh, it's so many cameos like from the fashion world,
and also like just too many TikTokers, and there's like
a TikToker that has a big part.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
In it, and I'm bitter about it.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
But anyway, there's so there's a lot of these like
pop culture nods where they were like, let's see how
many TikTokers and influencers and fashion people we can get
into it. Yeah, so they'll post about and share about it.
So overall, I think if you love those characters, you're
gonna love seeing it back on the big screen again.
I wish that they had taken a nod from the
first one and added a little more heart to Andy's character,

like this. At some point, she's mean in the movie,
and I remember thinking, I never thought of Andy is mean,
but they made her a little mean. I was like,
oh dang, and not towards Miranda, the person she should
be me.

She got a little.

Mean towards the end when she was figuring it all
out with the boyfriend.

I never read it, but smarty smartle requirement. No smart
people have read it. I have not. But Andy Serkis

I think they're trying to make it a more fun

family friendly, but they've all a little message, good little theme.

hard hitting journalists, still lets Miranda talk to her that
way and treat her the way she does is a
little unbelievable in that regard. I will say some of
the truly delightful moments for me were between Nigel and
Miranda which is Stanley Tucci and Meryl Street.

Yes, oh you'll love You'll love his presence in this movie,
and his storyline is great. Oh good, that's that makes
me happy. That'll make And there are some there are
moments towards the end where I actually teared up a
little bit because of those the special characters. Those two
special characters in particular. The rest of the beats of

the movie are a little all over the place. There's
like a Jeff Bezos type of character that's coming in
and buying things up and then somebody out buys him,
and uh, it's so many cameos like from the fashion world,
and also like just too many TikTokers, and there's like
a TikToker that has a big part.

In it, and I'm bitter about it.

But anyway, there's so there's a lot of these like
pop culture nods where they were like, let's see how
many TikTokers and influencers and fashion people we can get
into it. Yeah, so they'll post about and share about it.
So overall, I think if you love those characters, you're
gonna love seeing it back on the big screen again.
I wish that they had taken a nod from the
first one and added a little more heart to Andy's character,

like this. At some point, she's mean in the movie,
and I remember thinking, I never thought of Andy is mean,
but they made her a little mean. I was like,
oh dang, and not towards Miranda, the person she should
be me.

She got a little.

Mean towards the end when she was figuring it all
out with the boyfriend.

really wanted to use the themes that were in Orwell's
book and make it more palatable for children. And that's
essentially what he's done here. And Seth Rogen, Gary's favorite
is one of the voices of this And yeah, I mean,
I think they're trying to make it a more fun

and entertaining, family friendly version of Animal Farm, Old.

I just think it's funny that we're doing Animal Farm
for kids. It seems like an indoctrination of maybe things
to be wary of as adults. But maybe they need it,
Maybe children need it. I mean Disney movies, they're all
family friendly, but they've all a little message, good little theme.

Always movies since the dawn of time have all had
some kind of message behind them. Whenever people say, you know,
we don't want any message in your movie, well, that's

seemed like a natural progression then. So he's made the
Richmond team great, the men's team, they're on a good path,
and now he's going to take on the women's team

that doesn't have enough attention, money finance.

Gary wants to know if the women are hot. That's
not what I want, now, what did you want to
I want to know if it's entertaining. Are they shoehorning
something in there that didn't need to be in there.

I think it's going to be entertaining because you've got
the same writers, the same characters.

I have not heard that yet or seen that, Yes.

That will be the tell if they're Yeah, I have
not seen that or heard that yet, but I do
know all the previous cast members are back. It's the
same writers, Bill Lawrence and Andy, Andy Sudekis, Jason Sudeikis.
They're co producing it and writing it together as long
with along with Brendan Hunt. And it's going to be

another like ragtag group of sports people of athletes, that's
the word AI says.

While fans have requested the inclusion of a trans character
in this new setting, there have been no official announcements
regarding a transgender character.

I don't think there will be, to be honest, I
really don't. I think they're focused that.

Women have their own season without any other.

That's what I think they're doing now. Again, I don't
know for sure. Maybe they're keeping under under wraps, but
from what I've seen so far, what I've read, it's
truly just about this ragtag group of women who want
to play sports. I can't get the same opportunity and
attention and finances as the men's team. He comes in,
he helps them, he lifts their spirits in the same
way he did with that.
