Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to entertain Me. This is a show where we
cover all things entertainment, from socount to the silver screen.
I'm Heather Booker and I love to talk about movies
and TV shows and all things entertainment. If you're new here,
please take a minute subscribe to the show, maybe even
share it with friends, and we appreciate you. Let's talk
about what opened up the box office this weekend. This

(00:24):
is and I've been to this before on the show.
This is going to be a summer of nostalgia. There's
a lot of movies that are going to be remakes,
to reimaginings or sequels to films that we know from
our from decades ago even and this is going to
be a summer where they're kind of filmmakers and studios
are going to be tapping into our love of nostalgia.

(00:46):
And it all starts with a big one, Masters of
the Universe. This is bringing he Man back to theaters
for the first time in decades. It stars a young
man named Nicholas Galdazine. And I say young man just
you know, by comparison to me, everybody I feel is
much younger. But he plays Prince Adam. He Man, of

(01:08):
course and you know what's great about this movie. It
really embraces that sort of over the top fantasy, can'ty
humor all of the things that we loved about He
Man when the you know, animated series first came out.
And also you know what made the sort of toy
inspired franchise this pop culture phenomenon that it's grown into today.

(01:32):
It's getting a lot of really positive reviews early on.
A lot of people think that the director really found
that balance between action, comedy and self awareness, which is
not an easy thing to do. Like, if you lean
too much into wink wink at the audience, then the
audience is kind of disconnected and you lose them a

(01:53):
little bit. But if you find that balance, which some
filmmakers do really well, it kind of gives a nod
to the fans without being so overt, and I think
that's what they've done here. So a lot of people,
I think are gonna enjoy this visit to Eternia. If
you are not familiar with the he Man storyline or

(02:14):
the Masters of the Universe world, this is a good
introduction to that world, So go and check it out
and let me know what you think. Also, speaking of nostalgia.
Scary Movie twenty six, twenty twenty six is in the
theaters now. The last Scary movie came out twelve years ago. Now,

(02:36):
if you remember, you know, scary movie has always been
this parody of scary movies, of the horror friends and
horror films rather and pop culture trends, and this one
has had a lot to work with over the past
twelve years. There's been some really great scary movies that
have come out over the last twelve years that this
movie is tackling, like You've Got Megan, the Smile movies,

(03:00):
the Substance Terrifier three, which ooh, that movie is really terrifying.
So Scary Movie twenty twenty six spoofs those films and
the latest version of horror films and how the horror
genre has evolved and really has fun with it. It
brings back all of the cast members that we loved,

(03:23):
including you know, Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayns, and
Sean Wayns are all in it and is directed by
Michael Tides. It's a lot of fun. If you loved
the original Scary movies, you will enjoy this one as well.
Who doesn't love a good spoof movie. We also, I
feel like we need more comedies. We haven't had a

(03:43):
lot of really good comedies at the theater in a
very long time. So I for one, even if even
if Scary Movie twenty twenty six isn't the best thing
you've ever seen, Like, let's bring back more comedies into
the theater right now. This other movie that opened up
this weekend is called The Amazing Digital Circuit. And I
only know about this. It's only on my radar because

(04:03):
my daughter, my thirteen year old, has been talking about
it with her friends and I looked at it because
they're all watching it, and I was like, oh, I
don't know if you should be watching this. It is
it is a little bit boundary pushing. I think there
are some swears in it. It's a little edgy. I'm
not sure. You know. You can determine for yourself if

(04:25):
you want to take a look at it and see
whether or not you want to take the kids to
see it. It is an animated film, but it is
maybe not for everybody. So it's based on a popular
animated web series. It expands the story of Pomni and
this bizarre digital world that has attracted like hundreds of
millions of views online. Highly suggest you check out the

(04:47):
web series before you go see the movie to see
if it's something you're interested in or if you think
is appropriate, and definitely do that before you take your kids,
so you've got a lot of options this weekend to
act the box. I didn't get a chance to sit
down with Gary and Shannon this week to talk about
our usual entertainment report. That's because I was doing some
volunteer work with my friends at the Salvation Army serving

(05:10):
donuts to veterans. It is such an honor to get
to do that and be a part of that. And
we'll be back in action next week though with the
Entertainer Report. Meantime, thank you guys so much for listening
to Entertainment. Please take a minute subscribe to the show
and share it with friends. We'll keep you entertained, hopefully
and updated on all things movies, TV and entertainment. Thanks
for listening. You can listen anytime I'm on the iHeartRadio app.
